The protagonist of the story, a orphan who was left on the doorstep of the Sister of Mercy chapel, and raised by Sister Catharine. Though she tries to fit in with the other nuns, she feels horribly out of place. That all changes one particular night as she's using the can and gets an unexpected visitor.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Sort of a misfit in her convent. Though played more seriously as she was growing up due to her resemblance to Clementine.
* AmnesiacHero: Some of her memories have been suppressed by Yolanda's memory-erasing tea: Book 2 wasn't the first time she grew Clementine's signature horns--she also did so while purifying Rosalie and Marie during their previous Shard reversion during the Disfatto Missing Moment.
* ChosenOne: Picked to be the next mother of Christ long before she was even born. In reality, she's not so much the mother of the Savior, so much as she is the Savior ''period.''
* CloneJesus: She grew from what was left of Clementine.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: At the beginning of the comic.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: The closest thing she has to a biological parent is long-dead.
* FlatCharacter: If one ignores the mysteries surrounding Claire and focus on her character and her personality she is bland and unremarkable. This is made more obvious as the series has focused less and less on Claire and has put much more emphasis on developing the rest of the cast.
* HeroicBSOD: Claire undergoes one after she learns that her pregnancy wasn't really a pregnancy, and that she's the reincarnation of one of the most infamous witches who ever lived. Information that Gabrielle, Oscar, and ''especially'' Catharine - who more or less raised her and is the closest thing she has to a parent - deliberately kept from her.
* HornedHumanoid: Like Clementine, she starts to sprout horns from her head after purifying a humongous Shard. As a toddler, she grew horns after reversing Rosie's and Marie's reversions into Shards, but the experience nearly killed her.
* TheIngenue: Her main traits are her innocence, goodness, and general purity of heart.
* KindheartedCatLover: Indeed, she seems to attract them without even trying though the story hints this isn't coincidence.
* LawOfInverseFertility: In purifying the enormous Shard that attacks her friends, she apparently reabsorbs her pregnancy. Gabrielle reveals that whatever was growing inside Claire was never a baby to begin with.
* LegacyCharacter: Her nickname, Clementine, is shared with Catharine's younger sister, the Bright One. As it turns out, she's Clementine's reincarnation.
* ManChild: Acts and is treated as much younger than her actual age by the residents of the Abbey, to the point where her ostensible mother uses a euphemism for ''kissing'' around her when she is 20 years old. Deconstructed, as she has been socialized this way by people who believe that it would be dangerous if she made informed but risky decisions. After undergoing a downplayed PlotRelevantAgeUp through healing a shard and absorbing the part of her that was Clementine into herself, she asserts that she deserves to be trusted and told the truth.
* MeaningfulName: Claire means "bright" as pointed out [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missingmoments/530 by Marguerite]], who was the one who actually came up with the name. Given the implied connection between Claire and The Horned One, known to other witches as "The Bright One," this is telling.
* MonstrousHumanoid: Claire was born as a Shard, and as such had purple-black goop-covered skin, yellow eyes, blue gums, fangs, and claws. She reverted to a human appearance when Catherine sang to her.
* MysticalPregnancy: Just like Mary from the Bible, she becomes pregnant through no sex whatsoever. What's more [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/428 it's progressing at an alarming rate.]] Later {{subverted}}, as it is revealed that it was never a baby growing inside her.
* OlderThanTheyLook: According to WordOfGod she's around [[http://sisterclaire.tumblr.com/post/32734786722/how-old-is-claire 18 to 20]].
* {{Reincarnation}}: Strongly implied to be one to Clementine due to her nickname, similar appearance, and red hair. Ultimately confirmed after the encounter with the giant shard when Gabrielle reveals Claire spontaneously regenerated from what remained of Clementine after she died. This is later elaborated upon, with Claire being revealed to have been born as a Shard spawned from one of Clem's antlers, and was purified by Catherine.
* RedHeadedStepchild: When she was a child some of the other kids at the school bullied her because of her red hair due to the fact that a story they were told said that the Witch Queen had red hair as well. While they shouldn't have bullied her, they ''were'' onto something about her looking like the Witch Queen...
* ReplacementGoldfish: Once she finds out about her being Clementine Reborn, she starts to feel like this was all she was to Catharine (Clem's sister) and Gabrielle (Clem's lover). Gabrielle is more accepting of Claire as her own person, but Catharine is noticeably more reluctant to acknowledge that Claire is a separate personality than Clementine, referring to her as Clementine on multiple occasions.
* SpontaneousGeneration: After Catherine planted a piece of one of Clementine's antlers as a grave marker, it sprouted into a tree and grew a fruit. The fruit burst to reveal a baby humanoid Shard, which became a baby girl after Cat cleansed her.
* TookALevelInBadass: Starting with confronting Grimm with a holy watergun and later learning nun-fu. She also becomes much more assertive as the comic goes on.
* TransformationHorror: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/460 Gains horns at the end of the sixth chapter in Book 2]]. Before then, in a story told across both a Book 3, Chapter 3 flashback and the Disfatto missing moment, healing Rosalie and Marie also caused her to grow antlers--a result that we subsequently found out almost killed her prior to Gabrielle healing them off.
%%* VirginPower
* WackyCravings: Due to her pregnancy she seems to have gotten an odd taste for wood.
* WhamLine: It's not so much what's said but ''how'' it's said, but [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/475 this page]] qualifies because Clementine also spoke with a stutter.

[[caption-width-right:152:[[labelnote:Click here to see her as a selkie.]][[quoteright:175:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gabby_selkie.png]][[/labelnote]]]]
[[caption-width-right:152:[[labelnote:Click here to see her humanoid selkie form.]][[quoteright:152:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sister_claire_humanoid_selkie_gabby.png]][[/labelnote]]]]

An angel who delivers the news to Claire that she will be the next mother of the holy one. Playful and supportive, she does her best to prepare her for the trials to come.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Blue skinned. This was a result of her losing her pelt when she was a Selkie as part of a transformation that nearly turned her into a monster.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo:
** Pretty much tells Claire that her "pregnancy" was an order of God, no point in fighting it. Still she knows the hardships of what's to come down the line and tries her best to give a comforting hand to her. This is, in actuality, a complicated and circuitous ruse designed to convince Claire to submit to the removal of the substance growing inside of her, revealed to be the whole of Clementine's essence and powers.
* BigDamnHeroes: In one ''Missing Moment'' story, Oscar manages to summon her after Abraham sets fire to the Mercy abbey. She uses the water from the fountain to put out the fire. Though it drains her instantly and Oscar has to return her to the portal immediately.
* TheBusCameBack: After the Atlantis chapter she pretty much disappeared from the comic for a long time. Eventually she did return in the Missing Moment stories albeit tales set in the past. She ''finally'' [[TheBusCameBack returned in the comic proper]] in the 6th chapter of Book 2 (or the 15th chapter if you wanna get technical).
** Later comes back again during the 3rd chapter of Book 3, in connection to the flashback being told in the Missing Moments around the same time.
* ChekhovsGun: The blonde wig she tries on when she first meets Sabine in the ''Missing Moments'' story.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: While discussing Claire's pregnancy over drinks, [[SlippingAMickey Gabrielle uses her siren powers to influence Claire into doing something Claire is unsure of.]]
* DynamicEntry: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=15 Makes coming]] [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=16 from the crapper]] [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=17 actually look beautiful.]]
* EmergencyTransformation: Is blue-skinned due to partially transforming into a Siren after ichor from Clementine's wounded horn burned away her pelt and fatally injured her, transforming her into the Selkie version of a shard.
* EldritchAbomination: What she'll turn into if and when the transformation completes.
* GodivaHair:
** She regularly goes naked with only her long hair of her wig covering her nipples.
** Averted with her appearances as a younger Selkie where her nakedness is left completely uncensored.
* GenkiGirl: Used to be one when she was a Selkie.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic/book-1-chapter-5-pg-90-2 This page where she calms Claire down]]. A sign of her Siren powers.
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: She met Claire well before the events of Book 1--specifically, to heal her after Claire overreached purifying Rosalie and Marie. She was very tempted to make Claire forget the abbey instead, though it's unknown whether Gabrielle caused her actual amnesia.
* FormerlyFat: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/495# Was very chubby looking in her humanoid form during her Selkie days. Somewhat justified as she was a seal pup.]]
* HeroicRROD: As she reveals later, the reason her visits are so brief is because she can only come when summoned by someone. And even then she can't stay out of the water for long periods of time or it'll continue the monster transformation.
* HidingBehindYourBangs: Her hair always covers her eye on the left side. The reason being she lost her original eye when some of the darkness from Clementine's broken [[EyeScream horn fell on it and apparently burned it out. She still has it, but it's part of the Siren transformation and she's likely hiding it to keep it from continuing.]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: After the encounter with the giant shard and Claire's baby disappearing, she ultimately confesses that she lied and what was growing inside Claire wasn't a baby at all, stating she, Catherine, and Oscar -- who were in on it too -- did it to keep what happened to the Witch Queen from happening to Claire.
* IHaveManyNames: And forms apparently. She mentions to Margurite as she's rescuing her that her form can be whatever she wishes it to be. Though this was either her playing up the angel act to calm her down or the Siren personality talking.
* InterspeciesRomance: With the Witch Queen, Clementine, when they were younger.
* {{Irony}}: She actually met Clementine not long after making friends with Catharine when they were children with both sisters completely unaware of this.
* LetsGetDangerous: When Claire was really in trouble, Catharine managed to summon her, [[https://www.sisterclaire.com/comic/book-2-chapter-6-pg-129 this time with her donning a battle outfit]].
* LikeASonToMe: While Catherine views Claire like her sister reborn, Gabrielle views her as the child she and Clementine never had.
* LivingOnBorrowedTime: While she still has her sense of self, the siren transformation is irreversible due to losing her pelt and she knows sooner or later it'll progress to the point that she'll become a full one in due time.
* MakingASplash: Shown to have power over water.
* NakedFirstImpression: How she met Claire when she was younger. Her excuse being clothes, at the time, didn't transport well between portals. She had the same quirk when she was a Selkie. Ironically, it's also how Marie meets her years later.
** Also technically happened when she took Claire back to her cave to heal her during the La Chiamata Missing Moment and Book 3 Chapter 3's flashback, though for obvious reasons it isn't called attention to. [[ForgottenFirstMeeting It was suppressed like the rest of Claire's memories about that event, though]].
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: Subverted, it was part of her act to protect Claire. She's actually a sea creature, formerly a Selkie and currently an incomplete Siren.
* OurSirensAreDifferent: What she is now technically. She explains Selkies turn into Sirens as a result of losing their pelt, basically sea versions of Shards. The only difference however is 1) It turns them into EldritchAbomination where there upper halves are beautiful but their lower ones are monstrous and 2) Unlike Shards, who are fueled by the pain of how they died and don't truly wish to hurt anyone. Sirens ''enjoy'' actively trying to hunt and kill people.
* ScarsAreForever: Was once hit by a harpoon thrown by a hunter trying to capture her. While the wound healed, fur was unable to grow around that area of her body.
* SelkiesAndWereseals: Was a Selkie who rescued a drowning Catharine. Interestingly, unlike the typical Selkie's of myth who can remove their pelt like a coat. Her pelt turned into her hair when she took a humanoid form.
* SexyMentor: Much to Claire's shock, having grown up in an abbey. This caused problems when she used to appear to a child Claire sans clothing. Leads to a FunnyBackgroundEvent where we see how Catharine [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missingmoments/421 oh so subtly censored Claire's drawing of her]].
* SpiritAdvisor: Well she is an angel. Except not really.
* TakingTheKids: She was always upset about the nuns having full access to Claire and could only visit when one of the nuns called to her. In fact, she felt that Claire would be better off with her rather than with Catherine. After Claire nearly died after she purified Rosalie after she regressed back into a Shard she was tempted to take her away and use her powers to wipe Claire's memories of her life in the abbey but she couldn't bring herself to take Claire away from her family on land.
* TheUndead: Technically. Turning into a Siren is basically death for a Selkie and the rise of an evil monster in its place. Clem and her friends managed to stop the transformation partially leaving Gabrielle in an in-between state: Part monster but still having her rightful mind. However question is how long it'll last.
* VoluntaryTransformation: Used to when she was a Selkie by allowing her to change into a human form when taking off the pelt.
* WalkingSpoiler: Pretty much a given considering how mysterious her character was.
* WeHaveReserves: Her bubble babies, cherubic sprites she conjures up out of thin air.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Catharine chews her out for introducing herself to a young Claire naked. This wouldn't be so bad, except Claire starts making drawings of her in that form and Catharine is rightly worried that this won't sit well with the other sisters if they see it.
** A more serious one comes up when Claire gets mad at both Catharine and her for keeping secrets about her past from her.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: In the past, she was exiled from her pod due to having a relationship with Clementine. Clem...[[BerserkButton doesn't take this news well.]] They were apparently able to smooth things out as the pod was shown to have accepted Gabby back and be on a better standing with humans.

[[quoteright:165:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/494cc3cf9441e7e439abb692ffff94c2.png]]
Claire's guardian and maternal figure. She was the one who found Claire and raise her, thus both have a deep attachment to one another even though she's allergic to cats and Claire constantly stays in contact with them. However it seem there are some secrets she been hiding from both Claire and the Sisters of Mercy that have recently been coming to light. Secrets that seem to be connected to Claire.
----
* AbusiveParents: One of the ''Missing Moments'' chapters revealed that her father constantly kept hitting her and her sister.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Possibly, no confirmation however. At the very least she is a witch, or at least was raised as one before taking her vows.
* BerserkButton:
** Hurting the ones she loves as Hanabi nearly found out the hard way after she mortally wounded Oscar.
** Any mention of the Witch Queen. She reacts...poorly when the healer notes Claire looks similar to her. With good reason, Claire is her sister reincarnated.
* BrokenBird: The ''Missing Moments'' show that when she first came to the abbey, she'd obviously been through some trauma and loss -- namely the loss of almost everyone she knew and loved.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: There have been hints, especially in the prequel comics, that show that Catharine hasn't had the easiest life. The most known so far, She and her sister were raised by an abusive father and, though taken in by kindly nuns, Catharine got scared when Clementine's powers awoke and hastily ran away from home with her. The ship carrying them sunk mid-journey however and she was separated from Clementine believing her dead for many years. While they were eventually reunited, a series of events lead to the loss of her second home, Thronum Mare, by Shards and Clem being labeled as evil by nuns which sparked a war between nuns and witches. It's hinted she watched Clem die from... something that was growing inside her and suffered much trauma afterward before being taken in at the Sisters of Mercy abbey. Nearly losing Oscar during the Hanabi incident, almost dying from that and nearly being burned alive by her former foster mother didn't do her any favors either.
* GetOut: Said toward Hanabi after she mortally wounded Oscar, giving extra incentive by taking the horn Hanabi was holding and levitating it at her throat.
* GrossupCloseup: Initially anyway, [[http://i.imgur.com/iUwGtvH.jpg the original version]] had Catharine break out into grotesque pimples when she finds out Claire was hanging out with cats. [[http://i.imgur.com/9EmPO9p.png This was downplayed in the re-release]] as just not being able to breathe.
* HealingHands: A power of hers she first displays in the ''Missing Moments'' story, she can take in the pain of others to heal them, [[HeroicRROD but it transfers onto herself as a result.]] It nearly killed her twice. First time, timeline wise, when she used it to cure Sabrine of her Alzheimer's just as she was in the final stages of the disease. And secondly, when she used it to heal a mortally wounded Oscar after Hanabi attacked her.
* HappilyMarried: A picture in Gabby's dwelling reveals that Oscar and she got married at some point in the past. If they still are is unknown.
* LosingAShoeInTheStruggle: Or rather left them behind when she fled the abbey with Claire, she's barefoot for most of their journey until they eventually run into a healer who gives them new clothes.
* MamaBear: The ''Missing Moments'' segments show she can be one such as when Gabrielle first introduced herself to Claire when she was a child.
* MissingMom: Her mother died when she was little.
* OfficialCouple: With Oscar. They were even married.
* OhCrap: Gets this expression at the end of sixth chapter of Book 2 upon seeing Claire suddenly gain horns. Considering her past relationship with the Witch Queen, she's horrified that history is pretty much repeating itself.
* ParentalSubstitute: Just as good as any mother to Claire.
* PlotAllergy: Allergic to cats which is the only negative in her relationship to Claire. And considering her connection with Grimm, their might be a deeper reason for it.
* ProjectileSpell: A variation. The ''Missing Moments'' segments shows that she can gather energy around her hand and shoot it at a target. It seems like an extension of her empathic powers such as when she saves Oscar from being killed by a competitor in the Tournament at Thronum Mare. She transferred the injury she took from Oscar earlier to the competitor, shattering his arm in the process.
* PunnyName: Sister '''Cat'''harine. May be counted as {{Foreshadowing}} once you consider her relationship with Grimm.
* {{Reincarnation}}: While she is seemingly alive and well in the main storyline, the ''Missing Moments'' show a scene where Sister Abraham snapped her neck in order to use her blood for some sort of sealing ritual at the fall of Eden. How she is currently alive 20 or so years after the fact remains to be seen.
* RescueRomance: How her relationship with Oscar started when she saved her from drowning and nursed her back to health.
* SanitySlippage: Whatever affecting her is messing with her demeanor and is only getting worse during the travels. Somehow she's drowning in her own mind. Claire has to eventually dive into her mindscape to save her.
* {{Tsurime}}: Further emphasizing her relation to cats.
* WhatTheHellHero: Claire gives one to Gabrielle and her for keeping secrets about her past from her.

A.K.A Evil Cat. The malevolent-looking and cantankerous Cheshire-looking cat that seems to be stalking Claire. They attacked Catharine and possessed her body while she was performing a ritual, rampaging in an effort to protect Claire from Mercy's nuns. After separating from Catherine, Grimm mellows out and is revealed to be a partially-cleansed Shard that befriended Clementine, who they initially mistook Claire for.
----
* AdorableAbomination: Grimm is a partially-cleansed Shard formed from the corrupted soul of an abused child amalgamated with that of the person who killed them... in the form of an adorably wicked-looking black and purple demon-kitty.
* CheshireCatGrin: Considering who their design is based off of...
* DemonicPossession: After they possess Catharine, they gain control of her body at night until Claire's use of magic to save Catharine somehow separates them again.
* DemotedToExtra: They were a major anti-hero for the comic while they were possessing Catherine, but once Claire separated the two of them, they became Claire's pet and barely even talks anymore.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Grimm briefly appears in [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=19 Chapter 2]], watching Claire and Gabby talk.
* FemmeFatalons: When in Catharine's body, her fingernails grow to this.
* GoodHairEvilHair: An indication of whose in control at the time. Grimm's hair while in Catharine is much more wild and feral looking.
* GreenEyedMonster: Is this toward Catharine and Snowy as Grimm feels Claire (a.k.a Clementine) should need no one but Grimm.
* HeelFaceTurn: Was initially antagonistic before calming down, and has now assimilated into the group of cats accompanying Claire.
* LackOfEmpathy: Cares for no one except Claire, due to Grimm having initially mistaken her for Clementine. So much so Grimm was willing to take over Catharine's body just to be close to her.
* NoBiologicalSex: WordOfGod states that Grimm -- like other Shards -- is OtherworldlyAndSexuallyAmbiguous, and refers to Grimm as [[http://sisterclaire.tumblr.com/post/22184471962/i-havent-talked-much-about-grimm-aka-evil-cat "they"]], having decided not to use "it" due to the ItIsDehumanizing trope.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: Grimm isn't evil, they just mistook Claire for Clementine and had a hard time expressing themselves in ways that don't involve antagonism and violence.
* TheReveal: A ''Missing Moment'' story revealed its origin to be a Shard born from [[MergerOfSouls the amalgamation]] of a child that was beaten to death and the person who abused them. The Shard was partially purified by Clementine and reborn as a cat. Unlike Snowy however, Grim's Shard form was much bigger and an inexperienced Clementine couldn't take out all of its pain resulting in it current appearance. This might be why Grimm is referred to as "they" as it's not one person but several.
* TranslatorBuddy: Being the only cat able to speak to the humans, Grimm serves as a translator for Snowy and the others.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Apparently one of its powers, as a ''Missing Moments'' story reveal it [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missingmoments/741 can take a bit of a small humanoid form]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Catharine claims that Grimm isn't evil and has a reason for wanting Claire. Turns out it's because Grimm was Clementine's pet cat back in the past and Grimm wants to be reunited with her.

A cat that Claire has taken in.
----

* BeautyEqualsGoodness: After Claire purifies their Shard form, they comes back as a white kitten.
* HeelFaceTurn: Was once a Shard monster that Claire managed to purify when she was little.
* NoBiologicalSex: Like Grimm, Snowy [[OtherworldlyAndSexuallyAmbiguous is referred to without gendered pronouns due to being a purified Shard]].
* NonhumanSidekick: Considering how often they hangs around Claire and is usually the one leading the other cats.
* TeamPet: To Claire, which isn't surprising given their past.

A very strict nun of the Sisters of Mercy. Enjoys punishing Claire for any minor offenses.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: She's green-skinned, at least when her energia's being blocked. She becomes normal when it's not. She develops this after being exposed to Claire's shard-goop and Mother Yolanda's memory-erasing tea.
* AmnesiacDissonance: Being dosed with memory-erasing tea following the incident with the Twins and Claire made her forget her kindness, turning her into a cantankerous old woman.
* TheCorruptible: Part of the reason for her nasty attitude and grotesque appearance is revealed to be due to her being exposed to Shard goop from Claire's horns, which blocked off her energia.
* {{Determinator}}: In a ''Missing Moment'' story, after Abraham locks her inside the abbey and tries to burn it down. She stays with the comatose Catharine (weakened after using her magic to save Oscar following the Hanabi incident) amidst the flames and sings a calming song despite knowing they'll likely die.
* FanDisservice: While the other nuns are bathing, Marguerite decides to join them, with one panel showing [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=282 her wrinkly butt]].
* GlowingEyes: When summoning the mecha.
* {{Jerkass}}: She was a bitter, foul-tempered and sadistic woman, insistent that Catherine be tried and burnt as a witch. Her personality turns a 180 after her energia is unblocked.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: It becomes more obvious she has some more depths to her given her past, as the storyline for Sister Claire's past shows that while Marguerite was still not exactly cuddly she did get along pretty well with little Claire. Among other things, she looked after her with some kindness when Catharine was ill, apologized for frightening her when having a panic attack over a fire, and sincerely thanks Claire for bringing her tea. There's also the fact that something is possibly affecting her mind.
* PlayingWithSyringes: In the original version, [[http://i.imgur.com/ATNn0e5.jpg her first interaction with Claire was sticking her with a needle full of laxatives]] as punishment for playing with cats. [[RunningGag Again]]. This was taken out in the newer drawings however to which she just chastises Claire for it.
* SecretKeeper: The Missing Moments imply she either knows or at least suspects a connection between Claire and the Witch Queen, Clementine since she met the latter and was the one who suggested Claire's name, which means "bright" tying directly to the Queen's title of "the bright one" among witches.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: She's the one who trained Catharine.
* SternNun: Sister Marguerite is very harsh, especially towards Claire. Later it turns out she was under an affliction which made her bad-tempered. When it's lifted, she is pleasant.
* SummonMagic: Her power is connected to a mecha that was given to the search party by Mother Superior. The problem however is that she needs to keep her emotions in check otherwise it'll run rampant.
* TookALevelInKindness: Once her energia is unblocked she becomes a much kinder, gentler, and normal-looking person..
* TortureTechnician: She ''really'' loves her job.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Deathly afraid of fire due to almost being burned alive by Sister Abraham.

The head sister or "Mother Superior" of the Sisters of Mercy. A short, fairly rational minded elderly nun.
----
* {{Expy}}: [[Characters/StarWarsYoda A certain green skinned Jedi]], [[Franchise/StarWars she is based on. Hmm?]]
* HalfHumanHybrid: She has goblin ancestry, explaining her green skin and diminutive stature.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: Elderly and the shortest character of the cast.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Stern but always willing to give a chance to all but the unrepentantly evil. WordOfGod also says that she's well aware of the relationships between some of the nuns, specifically Oscar and Catharine and Olga and Jackson but as long as it doesn't interfere with their duties she doesn't care.

One of the teachers of the covenant. She's the one that trains Claire in the art of Nun-Fu.
----
* BrawnHilda: Very muscular looking when she's not wearing a full nun habit.
* BrokenBird: Along with her Dark and Troubled Past below. Her time staying with the Helsing Branch likewise wasn't kind to her.
* ButchLesbian: Not feminine at all in in a relationship with Janelle.
* DarkAndTroubledPast:
** During her apprentice days, her mentor was killed and eaten by wolf witches after saving her while she looked on helpless to do anything. She vowed from then on to not let something like that happen again.
** It gets much worse before then. A Missing Moments story reveals that, as a child, she was infected by a Moon Wolf's spores while on an outing with her brothers and started turning into one herself. Her family was forced to lock her in the basement of her house. But she managed to escape and reached the Helsing abbey. Though they did treat her, they had to keep her likewise locked up for her safety while Abraham went to check out her village for the Moon Wolf. Unfortunately finding that they were likewise infected, including her family apparently. Abraham was forced to burn the village to the ground to keep the infection from spreading further. It's implied Olga doesn't know her family's fate.
* DeadpanSnarker: In her less serious moments, she's this.
* DealWithTheDevil: Makes one with Azi which, in exchange for healing her legs, she must ''never'' hunt a wolf witch again or she'll turn into what she fears most.
* {{Expy}}: WordOfGod is her design is based on [[WesternAnimation/AtlantisTheLostEmpire Helga Sinclair]].
* HeroicRROD: Her Hulking Out power is useful against monsters but, along with affecting her judgement, it puts a toll on her body's muscles including her heart. Meaning she can only use it in short bursts.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Her KnightTemplar attitude and hatred of witches has some unfortunate layers. Though it's revealed in ''Missing Moments'', she's a transfer from the Helsing group of nuns who're infamous for this behavior.
* HulkingOut: Can use a special technique to make her herself much more muscle-y, giving he a power boost.
* {{Hypocrite}}: She hates witches and distrusts magick users, despite the fact that a lot of her strength comes inheriting magick from her parents. She's also in a romantic relationship with Jackson, a weatherwitch whose mother was the most powerful weatherwitch of all time
* KarmicTransformation: As per the rules of her deal with Azi, smacking Azi during fit of paranoia starts turning ''her'' into a wolf witch. However, this might not be the case, as ''Missing Moments'' reveals that Olga was infected by a Moon Wolf as a child and her transformation into one was halted by the Helsings. This implies that the deal she made with Azi somehow cause her transformation to resume.
* LeeroyJenkins: As good a fighter she is, she also has the unfortunate tendency to start assuming or attacking before really assessing the situation (''Especially'' if it concerns wolf witches). So this has gotten her in trouble a few times, though likely this was because of her upbringing with the Helsing group.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: The ''Missing Moments'' imply she has no idea that her family is dead, likely to spare her the guilt of being the one who likely infected them.
* MassivelyNumberedSiblings: The sole sister to six brothers.
* ScarsAreForever: Has a few on her left eye, as well as all over her body.
* SecretRelationship: With Jackson. The other nuns always knew though, but apparently Olga wasn't aware of it until Azi brought it to light. Making it even more funny, Azi had just met the group and could tell from ''first sight''.
* ShapeshifterBaggage: Averted. She weighs the same in her regular form as her HulkingOut form.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: As mentioned, she put Claire through rigorous training to toughen her up.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Within the Helsing group. She mentions they often belittled her for not going along with their methods and deem her as weak.
* {{Tsundere}}: Is becoming one as the story goes.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Gets called out for her unnecessary force by Sister Jackson and Yolanda when trying to stop Claire from freeing Catharine after the witch trial which resulted in Jackson getting her arm broken trying to stop her.
** And gets another from Azi for assuming all Wolf Witches were like the ones she encountered in the past which put Azi's family, a peaceful faction, in danger when Olga called Abraham after encountering Lupo.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: A side effect of her power-up. The longer she stays within it, the more it affects her judgement that she'll start attacking both friend and foe.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She wants to protect people, but is a tad overzealous in trying to fight evil that it often clouds her sense of right and wrong.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Talked like this in her younger days as she was still learning English from Abraham at the time.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: At some point while tracking Claire's group. She was somehow poisoned which is slowly killing her. It eventually takes its toll rendering her unable to walk and Marguerite states she only has hours left. Azi manages to partly cure her of the poison, though needs additional help to help Olga walk again.

Two twin sisters who were at the abbey long before Claire joined.
----
!!!Both
* AscendedExtra: According to Yamino, they started as a one-panel sight gag, but over time their role grew to what it is now.
* BigDamnHeroes: They show up to break up a fight between Olga and Grimm-Catherine, [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=196 decked out in Sailor Senshi-like habits]].
* BishieSparkle: They apparently picked it up from Sister Oscar. It's a family trait, apparently.
* CoolShades: When they go into action.
* DeathAmnesia: They spent a LONG time in a sort of "limbo" as semi-Shards before Clementine revived/purified them, losing most of their memories of that time in the process as Clementine lost her arm. Rosalie gets a [[BrainwashResidue chilling sense of deja vu]] during her foray back there to rescue someone during the Voti Missing Moment.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: Starting out as basically the same, the two have changed much over the course of the story, with Rosie developing a fierce temper while Marie has become more empathetic and gentle.
* {{Expy}}: Of Rosalie Lamorliere and Marie Antoinette of ''Manga/TheRoseOfVersailles''.
* GreenEyedMonster: Their indifference to Catharine after her possession is because of their jealousy over how she takes some of Oscar's attention away from them.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: The two of them are technically identical, but have a number of [[http://yamino.deviantart.com/art/All-about-the-Twins-183960119 differences]] that allow them to be told apart.
* JumpedAtTheCall: When offered to come with Claire and Catharine, they didn't even need to think about it before saying yes.
* LongHairIsFeminine: Much to the surprise of Claire as nuns usually keep their hair short and consider long hair a sin of vanity.
* RedOniBlueOni: Rosalie's the red, Marie's the blue. [[http://yamino.deviantart.com/art/Young-Twins-291438443 This pic does a good job of showcasing it nicely.]] [[http://yamino.deviantart.com/art/All-about-the-Twins-183960119 This one shows off some other differences.]]
* TheReveal: Barring any plot switch ups (Ash is ''very'' infamous for that), the ''Missing Moments'' stories reveal they were actually born as semi-Shards. For some reason however, they manage to keep their humanoid form but were stuck in a limbo between life and death before finally being revived by Clementine. If they still are Shards remains to be seen at the moment,]] though they did have their Twin Telepathy since birth. They do revert to Shards during the Disfatto ("Undone") Missing Moment, though Marie's transformation is implied to be the result of her twin telepathy remaining intact during Rosalie's much more horrific reversion.
* SingleMindedTwins: Somewhat, they're usually seen together most of the time and on the same mindset. But do occasionally bicker now and then. Having telepathy helps with this.
* SomethingAboutARose: A motif of theirs, used as a reference to Tuxedo Mask from ''Sailor Moon''.
* TooDumbToLive: Well not often but they can be gung-ho most of the time. When they confront Catharine about her secret she was hiding and that she was lying during her witch trial. Catharine asks how they knew this. Rosalie is quick to clam up and drop the issue but Marie blurts out they could tell from her aura, giving the twins' secret power away.
* TwinTelepathy: An ability they developed over time. However they prefer to keep it secret as such ability would be considered witchcraft in their covenant. It turns out their telepathy ''is'' witchcraft, albeit developed subconsciously.

!!!Rosalie Nabavi
The fiery-tempered twin who specializes in sword-fighting.
----
* BackFromTheDead: Rosie is killed during the raid on Helsing Abby, but is resurrected by Abraham.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: When she's mauled by a Bloodtooth -- predatory batlike monsters living in the forest outside the Helsings' cathedral, Rosie taps into her Shard powers to fight back and her eyes turn black with purple-red irises.
* BodyHorror: When Rosalie becomes consumed with negative emotions as a child, she reverts into a Shard resembling a cross between [[Film/TheThing1982 The Thing]] and a [[Franchise/{{Alien}} Xenomorph]]. She's cleansed by Claire before she can attack anyone.
* BrainwashResidue: With regards to the twins' DeathAmnesia during the Voti Missing Moment, when she heads into a similar "limbo" to the one the twins spent their pre-purification life in to rescue someone else. This may have been related to her subsequent Shard reversion.
* CharacterDeath: She's crushed by a structure of the Helsing abbey they were on right after she saves the last one inside. Though Abe, with her Shard power, finds her in Limbo and agrees to try and help her come to life as Clementine had done before. And indeed [[BackFromTheDead this ends up reversed]] as she regains her body, albeit heavily bruised and missing a couple of limbs -- which she later regains by awakening her Shard powers.
* CharacterDevelopment: Rosalie was initially all-but identical to Marie, aside from her IdenticalTwinIDTag hairstyle. As the comic progresses, she's revealed to be more impulsive, resentful, and temperamental than her sister. She also acclimatizes well to the military environment of the Helsing Abbey, and eventually takes over as their leader.
* EatenAlive: Rosalie is swallowed whole by the Shard monster in the 6th chapter of Book 2. She manages to survive, though the experience traumatizes her.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After spending several months training with the Helsings, Rosie adopts a military-style undercut to show she's somewhat embracing Abraham's indoctrination.
* HasAType: The Missing Moments reveal she has a thing for older women who are authority figures, first crushing on Oscar and later developing a crush on Mother Abraham... who she kisses in the middle of a heated argument.
* IAmAMonster: Upon learning that she's part Shard the hard way, a distraught Rosie declares herself to be a monster incapable of being loved. Abraham, who has similar powers, concurs but tells her she needs to learn to control and wield her new powers.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: When her Shard powers activate following her resurrection, she sprouts a clawed hand covered in writhing tendrils, made of Shard ooze. With Abraham's tutelage, she becomes able to grotesquely transform her body, such as ripping her torso open into an enormous BellyMouth to devour a bear shard.
* MasterSwordsman: She is very skilled at fencing, having been schooled by Oscar.
* AMindIsATerribleThingToRead: Implied to be a negative consequence of using her telepathy with anyone other than Marie. It's also implied that her Shard reversion was catalyzed in part by her despair over reading Jackson's and Magpie's regrets related to magick. She ignores this out of anger later on, when she forces her way into Oscar's mind.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: The arm and leg she lost being crushed by debris grew back as purple-tinted talons made from Shard-flesh, and she's seemingly unable to change them back to normal.
* RageBreakingPoint: Already traumatized by being eaten by a giant Shard, Rosalie lashes out in rage at Oscar and Catherine over having lied to her and Marie their whole lives, and badly damages her relationship with them when she forces her way into Oscar's memories.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Delivers one to Mother Abraham of all people, calling her out on her decades of hypocrisy. Even being kissed by Abraham in the middle of it doesn't stop Rosie from stabbing the knife as deep as she can, twisting it, and salting every wound she can find.
* ScaryTeeth: As Rosie learns to control her Shard powers with Abraham's tutelage, she becomes able to turn her teeth into fangs.
* SurpriseIncest: Rosie had a strong unrequited crush on Oscar when she was younger, not knowing that Oscar was actually her much older half-sister until informed by Abraham, to Rosie's mortification.

!!!Marie Nabavi
The sweet-tempered twin who is a little on the ditzy side.
----
* CharacterDevelopment: Marie is initially all-but identical to her sister aside from having a different hairstyle, but as the comic progresses she is revealed to be gentle, compassionate, and even-tempered.
* LoveConfession: When Claire dismisses herself as boring, Marie blurts out that Claire is the coolest and most-interesting person in the world to her -- all-but outright saying that has feelings for her. And because this happens in a mind-meld, Claire gets the message loud and clear, both of them breaking out into blushes as Marie scolds herself for forgetting that the sharing of embarrassing thoughts and memories goes both ways.
* LoveInterest: She becomes very affectionate towards Claire as the series progresses, and is outright confirmed to have romantic feelings for her in the pseudo-canon live-writes. Once Claire realizes Marie has feelings for her during a mind-meld, she also becomes more openly affectionate towards Marie -- cuddling with her and kissing her on her back when she's having a nightmare. In the "Reaching Back" Missing Moment, they admit their feelings for one another and become an OfficialCouple.
* LuminescentBlush: After she accidentally blurts out that she has feelings for Claire during a mind-meld, both girls are shown blushing.
* AMindIsATerribleThingToRead: Implied to be a negative consequence of using her telepathy with anyone other than Rosalie. Her Shard reversion during the Disfatto Missing Moment is implied to be the result of being unable to turn off her TwinTelepathy during Rosalie's own reversion.
* MonstrousHumanoid: When she starts reverting into a Shard, she sprouts a fanged mouth, claws on her hands and feet, and a tail.
* ScaryTeeth: When she and Rosie regressed to Shards in the past, Marie [[https://www.sisterclaire.com/missing-moments/missing-moment-disfatto-5# got a set of fangs]].
* TaremeEyes: Marie has downward slanting eyes, in contrast to Rosalie's upward slanting eyes. Rosalie doesn't quite have TsurimeEyes though, since hers are rounded on top.
* ValleyGirl: Marie tends to talk and act like this.

[[folder:Janelle Jackson]]
[[quoteright:165:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b9ab5919fe57caf0cda299d23c7ff452.png]]

Another one of the Sisters of Mercy. She seems to be one of the most normal sisters among the bunch.
----
* AfroAsskicker: Her afro puffs up when she's fighting.
* AlliterativeName: '''J'''anelle '''J'''ackson.
* DanceBattler: Illustrations from Yamino's Tumblr seem to suggest this.
* DoNotCallMePaul: Jackson does not like it when anyone apart from her parents refer to her as Jane.
* LastNameBasis: Everyone calls her by her last name.
* PowerMakesYourHairGrow: Apparently. When Azi seemingly attacked Olga, her afro suddenly poofed up and made her hair much more wild. A ''Missing Moments'' story confirms this as in the past, after an argument with Olga, her unrestrained power caused her hair to frizz. This is due to being part witch herself.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: She's a TechnicalPacifist and willing to talk a situation down before going into action.
* {{Sarashi}}: Uses the bra version.
* SecretRelationship: With Olga. The other nuns catch on pretty quickly however but say nothing out of respect for them.
* ShockAndAwe: A power she posseses due to being a half Weatherwitch. If she gets really riled, she can summon storm clouds and bring down the thunder.
* TheLeader: Of the search party tracking Claire's group.
* TheReveal: [[HalfHumanHybrid Part witch on her mother's side]]. In her case, a Weatherwitch, which would explain why her hair poofs up with electricity when under distress. However her mother was part of the peaceful fraction.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the Missing Moment story, after both the visit from Hanabi and Abraham and nearly losing loved ones and the abbey. She goes to train under Yolanda so she'll be able to protect her home.
* TokenMinority: The only black nun in the covenant, though her aunt was among the refugees staying near there.

Another teacher and nun. Mentor and Parental figure to Rosalie and Marie.
----
* AscendedExtra: Along with the twins, her role likewise was expanded from a one-panel gag. Especially concerning the ''Missing Moments'' stories.
* BackFromTheDead: Catherine has revived her twice: once after she was struck down in a duel with a snobby noble and the other was when Hanabi killed her during her attempt to kidnap Rosalie and Marie.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/index.php Saved a young Claire from a monster with nothing but a tree branch!]]
* BishieSparkle: A humorous running gag is Oscar being constantly surrounded by sparkles.
* DoomedHometown: Thronum Mare, once a shining city that's now a desolate wasteland surrounded by a poisonous lake. It was revealed in the live-writes that Shards overran the city.
* FakeBoobs: Her "breasts" are actually rice filled sacks fastened into a bra.
* GenderBlenderName: "Oscar" is a male name, though it's also an obvious ShoutOut to Lady Oscar from ''Manga/TheRoseOfVersailles''.
* HappilyMarried: A picture in Gabrielle's dwelling shows that Catharine and she got married at some point. If they still are is unknown at the moment.
* HaveYouTriedNotBeingAMonster: Asked this of Clementine and Magpie at one point if they could simply try to not be a witch. [[WhatTheHellHero Magpie and Clementine are not amused, and deliberately compare being a Witch to being transgender to prove a point to Oscar.]] The lesson doesn't stick: It's hinted that this, as well as concern for Claire's safety, was part of her reasoning for planning to sever Claire's soul.
* HeroicBastard: Whoever her biological mother was, she was ''not'' the legal spouse of the King of Thronum Mare, who at the time she was conceived had not yet met the Queen.
* IAmWho: The daughter of the king of Thronum Mare. Which means she has RoyalBlood.
* MamaBear: Very protective of Claire, Rosalie, and Marie when they were kids.
* MyGreatestFailure: For reasons currently unclear, She didn't go to Eden with Catherine and never saw the city for herself. This meant that she wasn't there to help Clementine when the city fell.
* OfficialCouple: With Catharine. This would explain why she didn't try to stop Claire and her when they left the abbey following the witch trials.
* ParentalSubstitute: To the twins, although she initially lashed out whenever they called her their mother. She grows to see them as hers, and even proclaims as such during her argument with Hanabi.
* PowerFantasy: Unlike many transgender people and characters in reality and fiction, Oscar rarely encounters any difficulty regarding people's perception of her gender. Those who do misgender or hurt her are often violently disabused of their wrongheaded notions. The authors dislike placing her within these conflicts as they are all too common--and often dangerous or fatal for the transgender person involved--in reality.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=207 Oh yeah, she TOTALLY didn't know they were there.]]
* RescueRomance: How her relationship with Catharine started after she saved her from drowning and nurse her back to health.
* RoyalBlood: Considering who her father is, she technically does have this.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: The King of Thronum Mare looks exactly [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missingmoments/593 like Oscar with a beard]] which is how the Queen realized they were related.
* TechnicalPacifist: Like Jackson, she hates violence and wants to find a peaceful solution before resorting to action.
* TheReveal: Two major ones concerning her:
** During the stop in the hot springs she's revealed to be transgender. One Missing Moment section set during her childhood implies Oscar has always identified as a girl, since Maman corrects a doctor who calls her "boy." And when asked whey she kept the name Oscar despite identifying as female, WordOfGod says it's because her mother gave it to her.
** She's the missing daughter of the King of Thronum Mare who was sent away as she was born to a commoner.
[[/folder]]

!! Helsing Branch

A group of nuns that take their monster hunting [[VanHelsingHateCrime a bit too seriously]]. Olga was a member with them before transferring to the Sisters of Mercy.

[[folder:Mother Abigail Abraham]]
[[quoteright:165:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8aeb7cfc91eacb7b92b1e7c54df2f159.png]]

Leader of the Helsing nuns, known for being excessively violent in her pursuit of witchcraft.
----
* AgeGapRomance: Due to being centuries old, any relationship Abraham enters into is technically one--with a standout example being Rosie Nabavi, who is in her early twenties and was Abraham's subordinate at the time. Abraham recognizes the toxic nature
* BodyHorror: The right side of her face. ''Missing Moment'' stories revealed it was from an accident by Clementine when she first started exhibiting her powers and unintentionally burned her face. She also has what appears to be a mouth where her torso should be.
* CameBackWrong: Somewhat. She's killed by Kikuko and left a bloody smear on the ground. But not only manages to reform into a shard but likewise keep in control of her facilities. What's more she quickly regains her human form after the heroes elude her.
* TheDreaded: Her branch is very feared among witches that many run the first warning they get if they hear they're coming their way. Considering Abigail's methods, it's not hard to see why. Both Olga and Jackson likewise are very fearful of her.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes:
** Ironically when she did come for Catharine years before the main story, she refused to harm Yolanda, having some respect for her due to being raised by her. Instead she simply knocks her out.
** We later find out she had relations with Clementine a.k.a The Witch Queen when she was little.
** Apparently her relationship with Zora was also this when she was still alive.
** "Missing Moments" reveals that when she was only a child she was adopted by Yolinda after being orphaned by a Shard, and came to love the goblin like a mother. While she repressed these emotions during the decades she spent as a KnightTemplar, after her HeelFaceTurn they begin to reconnect.
* {{Expy}}: Based on a combination of Jonah Hex and Van Helsing.
* FallenHero: ''Missing Moment'' stories reveal she was quite kind back then before whatever incident , implied to be the death of Zora her one love, and seeing Clementine's powers at their fullest made her go after witches. She raised Clementine herself, beared no ill-will against her for accidentally burning her face and wanted to help her, and was even close friends with one of the witches as well.
* HangingJudge: Abraham firmly believes that the only good Witch is a dead Witch, and her introduction panel even showcases her prepping some gallows. Despite this, to Rosie's surprise she and the other Helsings are willing to use diplomacy with non-witch magical creatures.
* HeelFaceTurn: When Claire's crew brings down the barrier surrounding Thorum Mare, Abraham is horrified and rallies the Hellsings to go on the attack. She belatedly discovers this was part of a trap set up by Rosie and Marie, forcing her to stand down and listen to reason rather than resort to violence. After hearling Claire's pitch that they work together to pacify shards without re-killing them, Abraham begrudgingly surrenders and passes leadership of the Helsings to Rosie, though this doesn't mean the many people she's hurt over the decades are happy to work with her.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She goes on and on how love is a deterrent to her mission and hammers this philosophy to her fellow Helsing nuns. However she was more then willing to spare her former parental figure, Yolanda, despite knowing she was housing a witch. And, as the past shows, she even raised both Catherine and Clementine when they were little and ''even had a friend who was a witch''.
** She claims her actions are a [[NecessarilyEvil necessary evil]], but doesn't realize the irony is that she's ultimately spreading more hatred and fear and doing more damage then Shards would ever do. Apparently not seeing the irony that her actions aren't solving things, just prolonging a conflict rather then look for a peaceful solution. If her words to Claire are any indication, it also sounds more like ItsAllAboutMe as well due to having lost her lover and blaming Clementine for it. Shards thrive on negative emotions after all and there no more powerful one than a broken heart.
** The reason she and the other Helsings are so desperate to keep Thorum Mare sealed is because of Myr, a Pool Shard who she believes to be a dangerous eldritch horror capable of destroying the world... this despite being a Shard herself.
* KillItWithFire: Her favored method of dealing with witches.
* KnightTemplar: A very hardcore one. She's dead set on "purging" evil, which to her is anyone with the potential to become witches -- even if they have no malicious intent. Case in point, she burned down a fellow abbey just because she heard there were people who could use magic within it. Despite the fact that there were ''kids'' staying there. Much later in the story, Claire eventually reveals herself and Abe instantly notes her as Clementine's reincarnation. Claire tries to talk to her after she becomes a Shard and wishing to resolve things peacefully, even pointing out how Abraham's crusade is doing more harm than good. However Abraham refuses to hear any of it, citing her previous experience with Clementine in her own twisted view of keeping history from repeating despite Claire point blank stating ''she isn't Clementine''.
* IAmAMonster: While trying to indoctrinate Rosie into the Helsing order, Abraham openly admits to being a genocidal KnightTemplar who's killed countless innocent men, women, and children simply for being Witches -- but maintains she takes no pleasure in doing so and considers her actions to be a [[NecessarilyEvil necessary evil]].
* {{Irony}}:
** Was raised by Yolanda, a half human, half goblin.
** Partially raised the Witch Queen herself.
** She and Jackson's mother, Zora, a Weatherwitch, were close friends in the past. In fact, she was actually named Jackson's ''godmother''.
* LackOfEmpathy: Even if she is trying to get witches, she won't hesitate to kill innocents or sympathizers in pursuit of her targets.
* LoveIsAWeakness: Firmly believes this and while she doesn't express often, she mocks Olga for this reason. Of course considering her feelings for Yolanda, her maternal figure, it's hypocritical of her. She also develops feelings for Rosie, which she berates herself over but can't help herself.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: Abraham is revealed to be a human symbiotically merged with a Shard, enabling her to transforming into a nightmarish monster seemingly at-will and come back to life if killed.
* LudicrousGibs: Blindsided by the Kitsune she had imprisoned and crushed like a grape. A comic after the kitsune that had done the deed ends with her messily wiping Abraham's remains from her hand. However, this isn't enough to kill her.
* ManipulativeBitch: When Rosie tries to flee the Helsing branch, she runs into some Bloodtooth (bat-like Shard monsters). Abraham arrives and pretty much forces her into a life or death situation where Rosie has to use her Shard power to defend herself, which is exactly what Abraham wanted in order to use Rosie for her own ends.
* MirrorCharacter: To Clementine. Both are WellIntentionedExtremist, truly believe what their doing is right, but are completely stubborn and refuse to the see the flaws in what they do, trying to justify it in one way or another. Likewise both are revered by their respective followers as well. The main difference is Clementine at least did try to keep innocents out of the crossfire and only directed her power at those that would hurt her or her friends. Abraham, however, has no qualms with killing innocents in her quest to eradicate witches, deeming them as either collateral that couldn't be helped or just as guilty if they help or sympathize with them.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Has very high energia (basically this world's equivalent of ki) that she sensed the conflict with Hanabi from miles away.
* OhCrap: When she senses the barrier around Thronum Mare has fallen, she has an alarmed expression and utters a single "Shit!" -- being of the belief that Myr is an extremely dangerous EldritchAbomination that would destroy the world if unleashed.
* OneWingedAngel: After getting squished like a bug by the vengeful kitsune Kikuko, she returns as a building-sized Shard monster. Claire tries to pacify her, but Abraham resists and later reveals she can return to human form at-will.
* Really700YearsOld: Abigail Abraham was only five or six generations removed from the calamity that devastated modern society, and has been alive--in a manner of speaking--for centuries.
* TranshumanAbomination: Abraham may look human and retain her human mind, but she merged with a [[UndeadAbomination Shard]] when she was young and has been consuming and assimilating them for centuries--making her "true" form a mostly-humanoid mass of flesh and corruption.
* VillainHasAPoint:
** When she was training Clementine to use her powers more effectively, Abraham forced her to ignore a shard stating that Clementine weakens herself with each purification and, if she kept going, she'll put herself in a position where she won't have enough energy for the next encounter. Essentially telling Clem that she sometime has to come back later for them when she's stronger.
** Another incident in the past had Clem nearly bring down the Helsing Abbey in anger after Gabby informed her of her tribe exiling her. When she calmed down, Helsing told that it was alright to be angry but to find better outlets for it as her power is still too uncontrolled if she gives in to her emotion and could hurt potential innocents in the process. Considering that, at the time, Clem lived with a flock of bird witches and her sister she visited lived in a very populated area. Abe wasn't wrong.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Upon learning that Rosie is a human/Shard hybrid, Abraham goes from trying to kill her to trying to indoctrinate her, resurrecting Rosie and manipulating her into tapping into her powers while saying that only she can understand Rosie's plight and help her learn to control her powers. This partially works, but backfires when she develops feelings for Rosie and Rosie is able to manipulate her into a trap, forcing her to stand down.
* WouldHurtAChild: Yes, even children won't be spared from her if they can use magick.

[[folder:Zrina]]
A Helsing nun introduced int he Missing Moment stories that was stationed at one of the outposts when her group encountered The Witch Queen as she started her pilgrimage across the land to cure shards.

----

* BerserkButton: Slightly, she doesn't like being called an "old woman" despite, at the time of the ''Missing Moments'', looking roughly in her late 20s - early 30s. She responds in annoyance when Abraham refers the both of them as such while talking to Olga.
* BrokenBird: Sorta, she watched a fellow nun die when they tried to pick up one of the pieces of Clementine's horn after it was shot off and whatever kind of force inside consumed her. The image still clearly haunts her.
* PosthumousCharacter: She's definitely dead in the present and Olga is pretty sure that she, Olga, is the one who killed and ate Zrina while under the influence of her moonwolf fungal infection.
* {{ShoutOut}}: Design-wise, she looks a bit like [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra Kuvira]] with her hair down.

!! Witches

The supposedly natural enemies within this comic's world. They were beaten back following a war but some are still out there in hiding. A few are neutral and just wish to live in peace, but of course there are others who either have a grudge against monster hunters (not without justification considering many of their homes were destroyed by them) or are still doing their evil practices. Later stories reveal however that this is how the nuns and a majority of the populace see them. Many witches were quite docile before the war, but even then were persecuted against due to fear of magic. If there are any truly evil witches, they've yet to appear in the story.

The leader of the witch faction during the rebellion, who was killed just before the end of the war. Her real name was Clementine; she was Catharine's younger sister, Gabrielle's beloved, is Claire's previous incarnation, and is connected to the pasts of just about everyone in the comic.

----

* AChildShallLeadThem: She began her magickal journey ''far'' younger than Claire (at all of ''six''), who was eighteen at the start of the comics. She dies at nineteen, whereas Claire is past 20 in the present of the comic.
* AbusiveParents: Mentions that her father hit her when she was little. She's actually ''glad'' he's dead and it's revealed that when he was fatally wounded in an accident, she didn't even bother trying to help him.
* AnArmAndALeg: Sacrificed an arm to purify Rosie and Marie, and replaced it with a plant prosthetic.
* BerserkButton: Harming her friends as well as abusing Shards. She destroyed an entire village after finding out they had used a Shard they had captured and muzzled to power a mill. Granted the villagers didn't see Shards the way she did but still.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Despite her past, she was a genuinely nice person. But she has no scruples about harming people if her friends or family are mistreated and she certainly will let people die if she feels they deserve it for their heinous actions.
* BigBad: According to the nuns, she was the most-powerful witch in existence, making her public enemy number one.
* BigGood: However, the witches think of her reverentially, with Hanabi calling her 'The Bright One.'
* CastFromHitPoints: Whenever she purified large or powerful Shards, she would become exhausted. Many times, she would faint or go into a seizure.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: On some occasions. For example, nobody bothered to tell her that it's not natural to swim in fountains and mess with the coins within. Clem took offense when she got disapproving looks from people at the town she saved. When she was summoned to Thronum Mare, she wrote back that she would come as long as she got to play in the fountain and the coins (though she stated that the town could keep the coins).
* CoveredInScars: Years of travelling and purifying Shards left her visible skin covered in scratches and small scars.
* CultOfPersonality: Witches effectively worship her as a messiah-like figure, with Cog's family maintaining at least two shrines devoted to her.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Ye ''Gods'', where to even begin...
** She and Catherine were horribly abused by their father, to the point where Clementine could feel her father's pain when he had a fatal accident outside and ''refused'' to heal him. Then she and Catharine were taken in by nuns, ran away when Clem inadvertently hurt Sister Abraham, and a storm wrecked their ship and separated them, leading both sisters to believe that the other had died. She's then taken in by a flock of vagrant witches and is constantly plagued by nightmares of her horrific childhood. ''Then'' she grows horns on her head from trying to heal the Shard that would become Grimm. As a result of these horns, Clementine gained the ability to understand Shards and feel their pain, giving her a compulsive need to heal them to her own detriment. The more Shards she heals, the longer the horns grow, giving her headaches and other pains, driving her at one point to try and cut them off herself. Then comes the revelation that there's...''something'' growing in those horns. Something that burns or tries to ''eat'' people who come into contact with the goo inside.
* {{Determinator}}: She had a pathological need to help Shards and wouldn't be deterred from it despite the pain it brought her and the worry of her peers.
* TheDreaded: Was called 'The Horned One' amongst Nuns.
* EldritchTransformation: Abraham's flashback to the downfall of Eden reveals that Clementine lost control of the darkness inside her and transformed into a horrifyingly powerful and massive Shard, huge branch-like horns erupting all over the city and spawning countless lesser Shards.
* EvilRedhead: Thought as such by nuns due to her bright long hair. But she isn't, least to those truly know her character.
* FatalFlaw: Pride, she always assumed her actions were the best ones and had a hard time compromising with people who questioned her views and actions, especially if they were harmful to her well being. This stubbornness ended up having some damaging and lasting repercussions by the present time of the story.
* GreenThumb: Revealed to be a power of hers, she can make flowers bloom if she concentrates hard enough. This even extends to FertileFeet as well. It's what also saved her life when Hum brings flowers to try to help her get better and Magpie noticed the healing properties connected to her magic. As she grew older, she likewise started gaining power over trees and plants as well.
* HealingHands:
** Could take in the pain of Shards to end their threats, but in doing so causes her to experience pain and exhaustion, sometimes even seizures for more powerful Shards, horns to grow on her head.
** Alternatively she has the ability to heal herself by taking the life of others, as shown when she was able to heal an arrow wound by sucking the life from a patch of grass, causing it to wither.
* HornedHumanoid: She had horns (or antlers more accurately), that grow bigger when she purifies Shards. They fall off over time, especially when she's happy but otherwise house a dark power in them that will try to consume anyone it comes across if they're broken off before then. Hanabi wound up with a piece of one of them after she was killed.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Clementine regularly puts herself in danger to help others, even as a young child. However, she becomes enraged when Cat puts herself in danger to save Maman, to the point of The SilentTreatment. As well, Clem espouses protecting the vulnerable as her highest calling, but refuses to acknowledge when she herself puts others in danger (such as nearly collapsing a school for orphans with her powers when angry or forcing her allies to go on a suicide mission to avoid Clem herself destroying the entire kingdom by PowerIncontinence). In her defense, Clem is in her early/mid teens for most of this and dies before she even hits twenty. As well, her family and friends call her out on her hypocrisy multiple times.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Gabrielle when they were younger, Claire having an embarrassing inherited memory of the two of them getting intimate.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: She has expressed a few times she wishes she was just a normal girl and wished to live a simple life.
* KnightTemplar: One of her biggest flaws is that she can be rather self righteous and unapologetic about her actions, no matter how questionable they might be. When she learned a hamlet of witches had enslaved a shard, she indiscriminately destroyed the entire village out of anger, despite her friends' protests. Much later, upon learning that Gabby had been rejected from her pod for befriending humans, she flew into a rage and allowed her powers to run rampant, nearly destroying the Helsing Branch's abbey and endangering everyone inside it. When Abraham confronted her on this, Clementine refused to openly admit that she did anything wrong.
* MissingMom: Died when she was little.
* NonIndicativeName: Despite being known as the Horned One, she actually has antlers. Marguerite even points this out in a Missing Moment story.
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: In the Missing Moments comics, Catharine states that all she ever wanted was peace between witches and nuns. Most of the nuns don't seem to share her opinion, if Hanabi is to be believed. Ironically back in the past, some nuns were very supportive of her ''including Abraham''.
* NotQuiteDead: In past stories anyway, Catharine initially thought she died in a shipwreck. While she did survive the crash, she nearly did die from her wounds and collapsed in a forest. Luckily Magpie and his flock managed to find and save her. Oddly enough, this extends into the main story as Claire was revealed to be her reincarnation.
* PlotDrivingSecret: The circumstances of her death, her exact relationship with Claire and what she did, or is believed to have done, that caused her to become a hated figure in the world. Catherine and Gabrielle know the full story but it pains them to talk about it, which is why Claire won't press them for answers.
* PosthumousCharacter: What with her being dead before the start of the series.
* ThePromisedLand: She helped to found Eden, a refuge for Witches during the war.
* RaisedByWolves: Or a vagrant batch of bird witches.
* RegalRinglets: The cover of chapter 6 shows her with these.
* SealedEvilInACan: Whenever she purges a shard it transfers into her horns, growing bigger with each pain she takes in. They fall off over time, especially if Clem is really happy. However it's revealed that some dark force lay within the horns and, if any pieces of the horns are ever broken off before then and someone tries to touch it, the dark force will try to consume that person. Some, like Clem's friend, Pidge, and Gabrielle manage to survive it though at the cost of burns and, in the latter's case, serious wounds. However one unlucky Helsing nun had the misfortune to try to pick up a piece and was instantly devoured whole.
* SpeechImpediment: Has a stutter in flashbacks that becomes more pronounced when she's stressed, but she manages to [[StutterStop break through it]] due to willpower on occasion. One of the reasons she became so upset with the bird witches was because, unlike Catharine, they didn't know how to coach her to find other words to use. At least until Lark taught her how to use UsefulNotes/SignLanguage.
* SuperpowerLottery: She had the power to purify Shards, control plants, heal herself and others, and was able read people's emotions and intentions. She also displayed an ability to control the weather as she summoned a storm when she was angry.
* TransformationHorror: One of the ''Missing Moment'' stories revealed she gained her horns after partially curing a Shard that would later become Grimm. [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missingmoments/673 The illustration even shows blood dripping from from the newly gained horns despite the shadows.]]
* UniversallyBelovedLeader: She was originally celebrated figure who was beloved by entire countries. Unfortunately, something happened that caused her to be [[HatedByAll hated by anyone who wasn't a witch]].
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: When truly enraged, [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comics/1476910260-13_s.png her horns become covered in thorns]] and her magical control over plant live risks causing massive amounts of destruction.

A seemingly normal bar worker that a few of the tracking Sisters of Mercy encounter. It turns out he's a Wolf Witch.
----
* BerserkButton: Don't touch his dog. Also nuns, especially if they're monster hunters.
* BrokenBird: Even worse then Olga, he saw his whole clan killed by nuns when he was nothing but a pup and can't even stand the sight of them without remembering that day. This becomes a problem when his adopted father questions if he wants to go to the city which is full of nuns. Lupo tries to save face and claim he can handle it. Barely a week passes before he starts having anxiety attacks.
* ButtMonkey: ''Nothing'' ever goes right for Lupo.
* HappilyAdopted: Played with. His clan was wiped out by Witch Hunters, and he was taken in by another clan. But while the clan leaders see, treat, and love him like their own son, his bullying "sister" Azi makes it her business to make him feel inferior and constantly tell him that they aren't really his family. Subverted later as she does love him, just has a rough way of showing it.
* ImAHumanitarian: It's revealed in ''Missing Moments'' that his birth family was a "splinter pack" of wolf witches that ate people.
* InTheHood: In his Witch outfit.
* LeeroyJenkins: His over-zealousness revealed that the Wolf Witches clan was still alive to the nuns, which forced his pack to relocate. To add insult to injury, his pack was a ''peaceful'' division of Wolf Witches. So he wound up putting his whole family in danger for a petty grudge which the leaders rightly chastise him for.
* PlayingWithFire: Lupo has shown he has the power to conjure and shoot flames, although the full extent of this ability is unknown.
* ShoutOut: His design, both physically and clothing-wise, is a deliberate reference to Ezio from ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedII''
* [[TalkToTheFist Talk To The Foot]]: When he reveals himself to the currently fleeing foursome of Claire, Cat and the Twins, he gets a swift boot to the sternum.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Subverted in his case, he has the power to transform into a wolf. But due to past trauma, can't really control it and its sporadic at best.

Lupo's sister. Likewise a Wolf Witch.

----
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Despite how she acted before, she's actually horrified when the nuns tell her the gigantic Shard they just saw could be attracted to Claire's group. And then [[OhCrap remembers]] that Lupo was suppose to track them. A ''Missing Moments'' story focusing on their past shows that, while she's brash, loved to insult him and got into fights (then again remember these are wolves and roughhousing is a common trait for them) deep down she really does care for him.
* DealWithTheDevil: Offers to heal Olga from the poison slowly killing her, but in exchange she must not hunt Wolf Witches ever again or she'll turn into what she fears most.
* HairTriggerTemper: Always seems itching for a fight and nearly pummeled Lupo over an accidental scratch during their arguing.
%%Zero-Context Example * InTheHood: A red one.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Constantly puts down Lupo and keeps reminds him that he's an outsider in their clan (though Subverted later as she does love him, just has a rough way of showing it). [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=410 Her introduction to the search party nuns likewise]] [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/comic.php?id=411 wasn't the most subtle of entrances]] considering her leaders (i.e mother and father) specifically ''told her'' to find and protect them. However as the story goes on, it's revealed later that she has just has a rough way of showing her caring side and she's not as bad as she seems. Apparently constantly being in hiding from nuns and losing a girlfriend has jaded her a bit.
* JerkassHasAPoint: She points out it ''was'' Lupo's fault that the clan was forced to relocate due to his need for vengeance. She also chastises him that he should have took into consideration his family as well before doing the act.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting : A trait of the wolf witches which allow her to change into a normal and hybrid wolf forms.

A witch introduced in a ''Missing Moments'' story and a former follower of the Witch Queen. She's the first one who noticed Rosalie and Marie's ability to use magic and attempted to take them away from the nuns.

----
* AbusiveParents: Well close to it anyway. Her mentor, Sister Agatha would punish her for using her powers, which most of the time happened subconsciously while Hanabi was sleeping. This was despite the fact the magic was fairly harmless (just light projections when she was younger). Ultimately Hanabi ended up killing her, though it was implied that it was self-defense as Agatha got too overzealous in her methods.
* TheAtoner: Later in the Missing Moments and eventual comic, she comes to realize her former actions were indeed in the wrong and making her no better then the people she's fighting against. And works to focus on protecting people without forcing her views on others who share the same goal. Particularly trying to make it up to Catherine and Oscar.
* AffablyEvil: Debatable on the evil part but she does starts off well mannered and speaking nicely to the nuns when she comes across the abby But after finding out the twins can use magic, tries to take them by force rather than talking it out with the nuns. Even when Oscar pleas with them, she refuses and knocks her away.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Fitting considering she's a witch.
* ForYourOwnGood: She claims the nuns will eventually turn on the twins when they find out they have magic or teach them that witches are bad, hence why she should take them away. Oscar argues to the contrary but Hanabi refuses to relent. It's only until speaking with Catharine does she finally agree and that's ''only'' because she's a fellow witch. As well as the sister of the Bright One.
* FreudianExcuse:
** A Missing Moments story reveals she used to be apprentice to a Mother Nun herself. From what little dialogue we get from the Mother, she was doing a very poor job in training and taking care of her (the mother nun flat out scoff at Abraham's offer to help). Which, along with the war between witches and nuns, probably lead to Hanabi's mindset that all nuns were evil.
** In another Missing Moments story, we learn that Sister Agatha, the Mother Nun in charge of her, was abusive and punished her whenever she used her powers. However, Hanabi would develop her powers in secret and eventually killed Sister Agatha to prevent her from treating any other children the same way. This decision would haunt Hanabi for years until Pidge and Lark comforted her and told her they believed she made the right choice, inadvertently setting up her mentality that she's justified in hurting and killing nuns in order to protect magick children.
* GreenThumb: Supposedly can use plant magic as uses was able to make vines to keep Jackson from attacking her during her visit.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** Arguing that taking the twins away will prevent the nuns from proclaiming witches are evil. Yet is ''exactly proving the nuns right'' by forcibly kidnapping the twins from Oscar, who considers them her daughters, then nearly killing Oscar when she tries to stop them.
** Then we find out she was actually a ''[[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missing-moments/missing-moment-un39altra-madre-2 nun herself''.]]
* InTheHood: Noticing a pattern here? In this case [[http://i.imgur.com/cZIVoMv.png A purple cloak]]
* InterspeciesRomance: She befriends and eventually falls in love with Kikuko the ''kitsune''.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Uses a claim that magical children are in danger at the abbeys as one of the reasons for taking the twins away. Turns out that she was entirely correct with that one. Granted it doesn't excuse her actions, but still.
* KarmaHoudini: Tries kidnapping the twins, blasts a hole through Oscar's torso, and gets to walk away with zero retribution.
* LightEmUp: Specializes in a sort of hard-light projection type of magic. And can easily weaponize it.
* OhCrap: Gets this reaction when she recognizes Catharine, the older sister of her former leader, is at the abbey and that Oscar is a loved one of hers whom Hanabi just mortally wounded right in front her. As you can imagine, Catharine threatens retribution by levitating the horn at Hanabi's throat and tells her to leave or else.
* YouShallNotPass: When the Helsing nuns zero in on her coven's location, she decides to confront them head on to give the others a chance to escape.
* WhatTheHellHero: From a certain point of view, but during the Mercy Incident in the past, Catharine states the Witch Queen just wanted peace for both her kind and the nuns. What Hanabi's doing is the ''exact opposite'' as she attacking people who're likewise protecting their own families because they don't agree with ''her'' methods.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She's just trying to look after her own kind, but seems unwilling to compromise with anyone who isn't a witch and starchily believes all nuns will kill them without remorse. This is ironic when it's revealed later that many of the Sisters of Mercy can likewise use magic. She does have a point about the twins being in danger when it's revealed that the Helsing Sister Abraham had burned down an abbey with magick children.

A young bird witch who Marguerite was acquainted with in the past. Introduced in the ''Missing Moments'' stories.

----
* AllThereInTheManual: They come in ''very'' late to the comic and the story assumes you read the Missing Moments stories to know who they are. If not, likely you'll be wondering why Magpie is already familiar with some of the cast.
* DueToTheDead: When Magpie came across Clementine (not Claire, rather Catharine's younger sister)'s body and thought she was dead. Magpie offered words of comfort and was even going to bury her. Granted, it was in the hopes of keeping her from turning into a Shard but Magpie was sincere about it.
* EasySexChange: Magpie is genderfluid. Sometimes he's male, sometimes she's female, sometimes both, sometimes neither. It's unclear if there's a physical transformation involved as well.
* {{Expy}}: Of ''Literature/PeterPan'' with his flock resembling the Lost Boys (though they have girls in this case). There's even an allusion that he helps his group fly by finding their "happy thought".
* MyGreatestFailure: A young girl under his charge, Sparrow, fell ill and he couldn't get the medicine needed to cure her. Helplessly watching as she grew worse before fading away. However...
* MyGreatestSecondChance: Magpie later encounters Sparrow's ghost when Clementine was drawn to her, though near on the verge of becoming a Shard. Magpie manages to calm her down by presenting her the medicine he promised which allowed her spirit to finally rest in peace. Though he managed to save her, the incident still haunts him because he couldn't do so when she was alive. But Clementine helps him get over it and shows assure him that's Sparrow's spirit is happy.
* TheLeader: Of a flock of various bird witches.
* TheMentor: For a bit to Clementine when she was little.
* ThePigpen: Shown to be filthy due to living out in woods and trees.
* ShapeshifterModeLock: Was locked in their Magpie for years, slowly losing their memory. They finally come out of it when Claire's crew visit Bright Night.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: As with the wolf witches, Magpie can turn into his associated animal. In this case, a... well, magpie.

[[folder:Zora]]

----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: A loving individual but don't be fooled, she was tougher then she looked.
* HeroicSacrifice: Dies sealing Thorum Mare to contain the Shard outbreak.
* HitMeDammit: When she came across Clementine and Abraham who were traveling together at the time, she could sense all the pent up pain within her. When they were alone together, she ordered Clementine to just let it all out and hit her with everything she had. Clementine did and Zora easily kept flipping her on her back. But the therapy indeed made Clem feel much better.
* {{Irony}}: She and Abraham were actually quite close in the past. In fact, She named Abraham as Jackson's ''godmother''.
* MoralityPet: Implied to have been one to Abraham. Once Zora died, Abe started getting more brutal and uncompromising in her methods.
* PosthumousCharacter: Dead before the start of the main story. Abraham confirms it when Janelle sneaks into Helsing HQ and informs her of this when Janelle mentions wanting to look for her mother. Stating she was there when Zora died.
* SassyBlackWoman: Very much so. You can see where her daughter gets it from.

A healer that Claire's group and later Jackson's, come across. Also an aunt to Azi and Lupo.
----
* FantasticRacism: Is mentioned she doesn't like nuns, ''especially'' Helsings. She only made an exception to Claire's group because Claire looked like Clementine.
* HopeSpot: Essentially one toward Jackson's group as she's the healer Azi was talking about toward healing Olga's legs. However when they reach her, she tells them there isn't anything she can do.
* IWasQuiteALooker: [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missing-moments/missing-moment-ingranaggi-7 Boy howdy]] was she.
* TheMedic: Was the one that helped Claire dive into Catharine's mind to save her from her sickness which separated Grimm from her in the process.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: Deathly afraid of being alone and begs this of Cog when he tells her he has to leave to get materials to help Olga walk again.

Gabrielle's friend, a lizard merman. They seem to have some history together.
----
* FishPeople: A lizard in his case.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Towards Gabrielle during the brief moments he in the main story at the start. These [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/92 two]] [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/sisterclaire/96 pages]] in particular being the most arduous examples.
* RaginCajun: Certainly has the accent.

[[quoteright:211:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fdf502c8f3cda4fcfb33dd3a3eb7a84c.png]]

Oscar's caretaker during her childhood days.
----
* AffectionateNickname: People refer to her as Maman.
* AllThereInTheManual: WordOfGod mentions she is transgender, which is eventually confirmed in-story (the five o'clock shadow on her face being a bit of a giveaway), which would explain why she knows how Oscar feels.
* BerserkButton: She may run a brothel but mostly to help the downtrodden of the city. Genevieve really hits a sore spot when she sounds like she disapproves of such people.
* DishingOutDirt: The Missing Moment story "Preludio" all but states she is some kind of Earth Witch, able to manipulate the ground to swallow two shards. It's later clarified that she indeed possesses powerful earth magic, being capable of causing earthquakes when angry.
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: She ran a brothel back in the heyday. It also turned out to be a safehouse for witches as well since the city it was based in was (not surprisingly) hard on them.
* MamaBear: '''Oh yes''', she won't let ''anyone'' talk bad about her clients and occupants.
* ParentalSubstitute: Towards Oscar and Catharine and later Clementine whom she took care of.
* PosthumousCharacter: She seemingly died when the Shards attacked Thronum Mare and she refused to leave the city without Oscar. Though before then, her disease meant she likely didn't have long to live anyway. Or so it seemed, until she's seen walking down the stairs in the final page of Book 3. The "Missing Moments" and Book 4 reveal this is due to her making a pact with Myr, a benevolent Shard living in and under Thronum Mare.
* SassyBlackWoman: Hard to say, but she certainly acts the part. [[http://www.sisterclaire.com/missingmoments/543 At one point]] she speaks Farsi to Catharine when trying to figure out what language the girl knows and refers to it as "mine" implying she's the Siter Claire-equivalent of Persian.

One of the local nuns around Thronum Mare. Friendly with Oscar when she was a kid.
----
* {{Hypocrite}}: She argues of her disapproval of the occupants of Sabine's building, until Sabine reveals Genevieve ''herself'' used to live there.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Got a ''very'' vicious one from Catharine when she thought she was trying to take Oscar away during Sabine's and Genevieve's arguing.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: Well Oscar could've worded it better, but Genevieve instantly assumes the worst when Oscar tells her that Catharine has been sleeping in her room. Oscar meant as emotional support obviously, not...yeah.
* PosthumousCharacter: As with Sabine, she shows up in Oscar's childhood stories. She died when the Shards attacked Thronum Mare.
* StrawCharacter: The more you read into her character, the more it's pretty obvious she's just made to be a fill in for conservatives and to show how wrong their views on LGBTQ are.
* ThatCameOutWrong: She means well but her wording while arguing with Sabine starts to hit some personal levels.
* ThinkOfTheChildren: Naturally she doesn't really approve of Oscar living in a brothel nor what she considers Oscar's gender confusion. As such, Sabine and she have been butting heads for awhile over the issue.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:King Michel]]
[[quoteright:184:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/033a5310d7fcb3dba6d32b339c4e2ad1.png]]
The king of Thronum Mare in the past.
----
* BishieSparkle: Where do you think Oscar gets it from?
* LukeIAmYourFather: Very obviously is Oscar's father, born to another woman however. It's implied since the woman wasn't royalty, they had Oscar shipped away to avoid scrutiny for being a bastard child. It's something he very much regrets doing however.
* PosthumousCharacter: Very likely especially considering the fate of the kingdom later. Sylvia confirms this when Marie and Claire run into her while visiting the ruins of Thorum Mare.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Basically looks like Oscar with a beard.
* UpperClassTwit: Averted per WordOfGod, he's more of a ShelteredAristocrat but not a bad guy by any means. Sylvia's influence has made him a lot better about understanding the lower classes of Thronum Mare.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Queen Sylvia]]

The queen of Thronum Mare in the past.
----
* {{Expy}}: Bears a not-at-all coincidental resemblance to [[WesternAnimation/Frozen2013 Elsa]].
* ItsAllMyFault: Feels this way toward her failed pregnancies. The latest really hitting hard as her babies were alive, but fell to sickness not shortly after.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Subverted, while the king is indeed Oscar's father. She mentions Oscar was born to another woman.
* PosthumousCharacter: She was very sickly when Oscar was little, and shows up in the main comic in the final chapter of Book 3, appearing to have not aged since the fall of Thronum Mare. It turns out that this is because Myr used their essence to keep her alive for a limited time. No sooner then she meet with Marine and Claire, Myr tells her her time is up and she starts to turn into a shard. Claire and Marie manage to purify her and let her pass on peacefully.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: When Gabby unwittingly invades the castle's garden and finds Sylvia there followed shortly by Oscar. She actually invites the two to join her for a bit.
* ReplacementGoldfish: Strongly implied that she decides to sponsor Oscar, her husband's child, because of the deaths of her own.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To her daughters Rosalie and Marie, but Marie takes more after her physically and Rosalie got more of her personality.
* TogetherInDeath: As Claire and Marie purify her, we see her spirit meeting up with her husband Michel in the afterlife and embrace him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nib]]
[[quoteright:152:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0403133bd5581904477e3090d1b5090f.png]]

A friend of Oscar's during her childhood days.
----
* AllThereInTheManual: While she does eventually join the comic proper, its in the middle of the story when reuniting with the other characters at a festival and given no recap on who she is. You have to read the Missing Moments story for the full explanation on her, otherwise you'll be confused who this girl is.
* TheBusCameBack: Due to being a mostly "Missing Moments" story character, Nib was presumed deceased following the fall of Thorum Mare. But shows up alive and well during the Bright Night chapter.
* TheMedic: Said to be a healer in training.
* {{Tomboy}}: Was a former street urchin before joining an abbey and her speech indicates she hasn't let go of this distinction either.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kikuko]]
A ''kitsune'' that the Helsings managed to capture.
----
* AllThereInTheManual: Most of her story is told in ''Missing Moments''. More than likely if you haven't been following those, you're gonna be confused who she is when she shows up in the comic.
* AsianFoxSpirit: Kikuko is a nine-tailed fox spirit who can conjure green flames and transform into a building-sized monster.
* MamaBear: Very protective of her pups, and one of the reasons she goes after Abraham when she's freed.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: She gets her revenge on Abraham by killing her via crushing her. But Abraham quickly turns into a Shard and comes back as a major monstrosity even bigger then her true form that nearly kills her if Claire hadn't intervened. This ends out revealing Claire's reincarnation origins to Abe in the process and now making her an even bigger threat than she was as a human. The dumb thing is it was completely avoidable too, but she just had to have her revenge.
* OneWingedAngel: Kikuko's introduced in a human form in the comic but can shift to a gigantic fox form if need be.
* PlayingWithFire: Kikuko can breathe blasts of green flames.
* RelationshipUpgrade: She flirts with Hanabi during their scenes together, and they eventually become lovers in one of the "Missing Moments", making her Hana's SecondLove.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Jackson and Olga stealthily infiltrated the Helsing HQ to bust out Hanabi, who requested they free her since Hanabi befriended her. The whole thing was going smoothly... except Kikiko wanted to pay Abraham back for her capture when she could've easily snuck out of the building without incident.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Myr]]
A mysterious figure who aids Claire and Marie when they infiltrate Thronum Mare.
----
* AdorableAbomination: The "Missing Moments" reveal that Myr -- short for Myriad -- is a colossal "Pool Shard" formed from the souls of those who died over the centuries of Thronum Mare's existence, and that it's only a stroke of luck that they didn't turn out all horrific and monstrous like regular shards. Despite being a Shard, they're wholly benevolent -- if a bit on the eerie side -- and their main host when interacting with Claire and Marie is a CuteWitch.
* AllianceWithAnAbomination: Is the [[EldritchAbomination abomination]] in this case, being a benevolent [[UndeadAbomination Shard]] who has made a pact with the survivors of Thronum Mare's downfall to help them.
* CreepyGood: Myr's main avatar is a young woman with glowing yellow eyes, and they have a propensity for eerie and/or ominous statements. Despite this, they are wholly on the side of good.
* CuteWitch: Myr's avatar when they meet Claire and Marie is a girl wearing a black dress.
* MindHive: Myr is a Pool Shard comprised of the corrupted souls of countless people melded into a single entity, hence their full name being Myriad.
* MonsterProgenitor: The Ruby Shards prowling Thronum Mare are the result of Myr's host-bodies being disconnected from them.
* PossessingADeadBody: Myr is capable of [[DemonicPossession indwelling corpses]] to use as avatars, inheriting echoes of their host bodies' memories and personality. However, should anything happen to cut these offshoots off from Myr's whole, they metamorphose into horrifyingly powerful Ruby Shards.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: One of the first clues that Myr isn't human is that their hosts' irises glow yellow.
* SuperEmpowering: Myr can imbue living beings with some of their essence to extend their lives and render them immune to disease, causing glowing vein-like marks to appear and their irises to glow yellow.
* VolcanicVeins: Myr bonding to a living host causes glowing yellow vein-like markings to appear on the person's body.
