Major characters in ''Webcomic/RustyAndCo'':
----
[[foldercontrol]]

!The Band
Three stalwart MonsterAdventurers who decided that this life was better than sticking around in the dungeon.
----
[[folder:General]]
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Parodied. It's implied all of the main trio suffer from this.
* BadassCrew: As said in [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-38/ "Level 5: #38"]]:
--> '''Presti:''' We left Rusty and Cube in the middle of a firefight!\
'''Mimic:''' Presti, babe... Tha' was, like, five whole minutes ago. Th' two a' them have already looted th' place and moved on.
* MonsterAdventurers
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mimic]]
[[quoteright:190:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mimic_3.PNG]]
[[spoiler: Boxford]], the charismatic Mimic is, despite the title, the main character.
----
* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: Used as a one-off joke where a siren is waiting to seduce some random male humanoid. She knows Mimic is non-human, but she isn't sure if he is male.
* BizarreAlienSenses: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-37/ Can't see, and his normal mode of sensing is more limited than sight,]] [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-41/ including problems seeing color.]] [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-73/ It does, however, work in the dark.]]
* ChestMonster: Unusually, he seems to be subpar in the combat department, though he does have the characteristic toughness (see IronButtMonkey below). When Stabs tries to use him as an actual chest to store treasure in, he turns out to be very bad at it since he's technically just a creature that is outwardly shaped like a chest.
* CovertPervert: He's shape-shifted into chairs to have women sit on him.
* ADogNamedDog: A mimic named Mimic. Subverted since Mimic's not his actual name. [[spoiler:Lampshaded when he grudgingly [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-17/ admits]] that his [[EmbarrassingFirstName real]] name is [[PunnyName Boxford]].]]
* {{Facepalm}}: No, Mimic has neither face nor palm. [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-6-14/ Yes, he can still facepalm nonetheless.]]
* FeatherFingers: He can apparently grab things despite the fact that his "hands" are shaped like handles. He explains it as using his mimic glue ability.
* GlamourFailure: Mimic's lips are visible regardless of his form.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: Parodied: both angels advise him to do the exact same thing -- ViolenceReallyIsTheAnswer -- just phrasing it differently. He even lampshades it, saying "Aren't you two supposed to disagree?"
* IronButtMonkey: He gets hurt pretty often, but usually only seems mildly inconvenienced by it, even when fully pierced by a massive spike. [[EpilepticTrees Maybe he can shapeshift new organs to replace the damaged ones?]]
* LanternJawOfJustice: Of all people, Mimic has one.
* {{Leader}}: Not only does he organize the group, Robespierre admits he has a knack for knowing how to encourage people to the best performance.
* MediumAwareness: He observes there are no rules on tetanus.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Mimic, it turns out, is a nickname.
* OnlySaneMan: Well, Only Sane Mimic. He usually is the one who has to keep Rusty and Cube in line.
* PrivateDetective: As a result of the effect of the Belt of Genre-Changing, Mimic is put in the role of the P.I. in Level 10.
* ShapeshifterDefaultForm: Mimic can technically takes the shape of any "inanimate" object, but he's most commonly seen as a treasure chest with a large, toothy mouth and red lips.
* SpeechBubblesInterruption: Mimic has a tendency to do this. Or to have it done to him, alternatively.
* StickySituation: Mimic has the standard adhesive ability of a ''D&D'' mimic, but employs it very rarely since, as he puts out...
-->'''Mimic:''' If a ragin' axe-wieldin' berzerker's comin' at ya... gluin' y'self TO him isn't your best strategy!
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Well, yeah. He's a mimic, it's his thing. Although he only takes the shapes of inanimate objects, not other creatures.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Rusty]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rusty_3.PNG]]
An absurdly cute rust monster whose favorite line is "Eat [metallic object]?"
----
* BigEater: Of anything metallic.
* ExtremeOmnivore: As long as it's metal, Rusty will want to eat it. At least he (usually) asks first...
* FlawExploitation: You want him to do something? Offer him metal if he will.
* LethalJokeCharacter: Rusty's no good for fighting, but the ability to rust (and then dissolve) any metallic object is about as useful as you'd imagine in a world where a majority of the weapons and armor are made of some sort of metal.
* LoveAtFirstSight: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-57/ Spots a she-rust-monster]], [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-58/ leaving flowers]].
* LoveHurts: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-60/ Mooning about after]] LoveAtFirstSight.
* MadLibsCatchphrase: "Eat X?" where X is some metallic item. It's also about the only thing that Rusty says.
* {{Mascot}}: The comic title sports his name, he features on the site's logo and the main merchandise is of him, but he's still not the main character.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Roxy knows that Madeline must be important to Rusty, since he refrained from eating her armor. Also when he actually says something else than "Eat X".
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: He's a rust monster, but he's got big adorable eyes.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: "Eat X" is Rusty's solution to about every problem.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Cube, a. k. a. Gelly C]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/i_kept_mispelling_this_file_anyway_its_cube_0.PNG]]
The silent yet deadly Gelatinous Cube
----
* BigDamnHeroes: Well, Hero, singular. You can expect Cube to pull this off at least once per issue.
* BigEater: If Rusty doesn't get to it first, you can expect Cube to eat it.
* TheBigGuy: He's by far the strongest fighter on TheTeam.
%% * BlobMonster: Well, yeah.
* CantUseStairs: There's a short gag early on about Cube being unable to cross a pair of steps, the narration calling it a "fiendish trap".
* DeathGlare: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-88/ As shown here, one does not actually require eyes or any other facial feature to pull this off]].
* ADogNamedDog: A Gelatinous ''Cube''.
* HappilyMarried: According to one of the first critical missives.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: One early strip showed that while Rusty and Mimic were dealing with the current plot, Cube was, in the middle of the adventure, having a whole another adventure, dealing with a cube-run gladiator tournament. It's implied to not be the last time he went solo, offstage.
* InexplicablyAwesome: Nobody knows how Cube does it, but he's a skilled fighter despite being a gelatinous cube.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Cube's weapons during Level 6, when he's dressed up as a {{Samurai}}.
* LeParkour: Mimic claims Cube knows this. It's not like there's any other explanation how he ended up suspended between two buildings, several stories in the air.
* MemeticBadass: InUniverse, even. The Doogans scoff at the idea that Mimic is an actual adventurer, but when they learn he's worked with "Gelly-C", they're actually a bit intimidated.
* SingleStrokeBattle: While dressed up as a samurai during Level 6.
* TheSpeechless: Justified because, well, it's [[ShapedLikeItself a gelatinous cube]].
* StrippedToTheBone: Any creature unfortunate enough to get into Cube will be dissolved into bone in seconds.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the beginning of Level 1, he can barely climb a staircase and moves very slowly. By the end of the chapter, he is able to jump around, wield weapons, and be the fearsome fighter we all know and love.
* WeaksauceWeakness: He can't dissolve synthetic fabric.
[[/folder]]

!Allies
Every level thus far has featured a character who gets involved with the main quest adventures with the monster trio. After the first three, the girls also started reappearing.
----
[[folder:General]]
* ActionGirl: A consistent element to these characters is that they've so far all been female.
* GuestStarPartyMember: These allies tag along with the trio for the duration of the levels then goes somewhere else.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Most of them have their own adventures and jobs when they're not helping out our heroes.
* RecurringElement: At least one of them appears in every level. Starting from Level 4, expect more than one to put in an appearance.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Princess]]
[[quoteright:192:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_7.PNG]]
A human monk (with a few levels in DungeonmastersGirlfriend), the princess is anything but a damsel in distress.
----
* AntiHero: Well, Anti-Heroine: She smokes, wears revealing clothes, is {{greed}}y, [[BoyMeetsGhoul loves a wight]], and has no qualm at all beating up a bunch of mind-controlled innocent bystanders.
* BareFistedMonk: She goes toe-to-toe with fearsome monsters all with her bare hands.
* DamselOutOfDistress: The Princess is actually very good at combat, and can usually save herself if needed.
* TheDreaded: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-53/ Grinner's file on her]] makes it clear to the derro circus that she is extremely dangerous, and if they happen to encounter her, [[RunOrDie they are to not engage and just run]].
* DungeonmastersGirlfriend: She claims to have taken a level (or more) in this "VERY obscure and VERY powerful prestige class" when she was imprisoned.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Everyone calls her Princess, as her real name has not yet been given.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Though whether it's because of ArtisticLicense or that the makeup she wears just obscures her eyes isn't known. According to the FourthWallMailSlot, she isn't consciously aware of it and assumes that all the pictures and statues of her were derived from when she was sleeping
* BoyMeetsGhoul: Girl Meets Wight in this case.
* TheLadette: Smokes, has a rough attitude and generally does not act traditionally feminine.
* PaperThinDisguise: [[spoiler:She really should take off her hat first.]]
* PrincessesRule: We have yet to see any sign of a King or Queen.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: The Princess goes on one (and later almost refers to it as such by name) after [[spoiler:her wight boyfriend is turned by a cleric or necromancer]].
* SmokingIsCool
* StealthPun: The Princess is a monk, who dresses like a punk. A punk monk.
* UnfitForGreatness: She doesn't know a thing about ruling, having to leave that to politicians and bureaucrats, and serves only as a figurehead. Suddenly becoming a DungeonmastersGirlfriend gave her unstoppable power, but it didn't make her any better at ruling, and only caused her enemies to escalate. [[spoiler:Worried about her subjects getting killed in the crossfire, she chooses to vanish after yet another failed assassination attempt.]]
* UngratefulBastard: Prestige Perkins stops the Tentacallis Mafia from destroying the royal palace with a {{Magitek}} missile. The Princess's response is to punish her for making noise while she's suffering a hangover.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dame Madeline 'the Paladin' Goodlaw]]
[[quoteright:243:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madeline.PNG]]
A human paladin, who makes up for her lack of intelligence with superior fighting ability... most of the time.
----
* ActionGirl: A straightforward female paladin badass in a cast full of {{Guile Hero}}es.
* ActionGirlfriend: A GirlyBruiser with a crush on an ActualPacifist.
* ApologeticAttacker: She apologizes for attacking one of the ant-folk holding her prisoner since he is just obeying his superiors.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Courtesy of a ''raise dead'' spell arranged and paid for by Mimic, after she died saving him from Grinner's dynamite.]]
* BadassAdorable: Arguably the most badass character in the cast, definitely the most adorable.
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: While she's far from the only good-looking female character in the strip, she's pretty in an especially classic Disney-esque way that makes her stand out as a beacon of all that is good and wholesome.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: When she throws down, she throws down [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-81/ hard]]. [[spoiler:A lava bath doesn't even slow her down when she confronts the Grinner.]]
* TheBigDamnKiss: Kisses her crush, Derek, right after regaining her confidence after spending the entire chapter struggling with her post-ResurrectionSickness. She immediately kicks ass afterwards.
* TheBigGuy: If there's a straightforward BigBad or other physical threat, expect her to be right in the thick of it.
* BlindfoldedVision: Madeline seems to do something similar, at least -- whenever she's actively fighting something, she closes her eyes. This practice has lead to quite a bit of WildMassGuessing as to why she does so in the reader comments, with theories ranging from divine guidance to disliking the sight of violence.
* TheCape: She's the most classically heroic protagonist. Bonus points for actually wearing a cape.
* ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve: With Madeline's first two weapons, the question of how she could fight so well with garden implements could have just been her own badass fighting skills, because the holy avenger and vorpal powers did not clearly manifest. However, her pitchfork obviously has magical powers, and so it's clear that her belief is endowing them with them.
* CostumeEvolution: Her armor was initially skimpier in the early strips.
* CrushBlush: She looks flushed when talking about Derek the Cleric, and turns beet red [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-41/ when his presence.]]
* TheCutie: Despite being one of the most badass characters in the comic.
* DetectEvil: Through smell.
* TheDitz: Maddie is... not particularly smart, at least in the intellectual sense. [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass Doesn't stop her]] from being a stone-cold badass, though.
* EarAche: She will sometimes pull people by the ear when she needs to coerce them into helping her. In the case of Y.T., she ends up pulling her ear ''off'' due to the lamia's shedding.
* EvilKnockoff: The hipster vampires ''try'' this on her. It doesn't exactly go as planned.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her armor has a big ol' [[ShouldersOfDoom Shoulder of Doom]] on the right and lacks an equivalent plate altogether on the left. [[spoiler:Until Grinner messed it up and it was repaired with two regular shoulderplates instead]].
* GardeningVarietyWeapon: Has wielded several; see ImprobableWeaponUser below for more details.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: The visual effect for healing hands.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: You know what you call a Paladin without her weapon? [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-178/ You call her "MA'AM"]]
* GrievousHarmWithABody: She hits one of Calamitus's doubles with another.
* HealingHands: Through "the power of the gods".
* HeavenlyBlue: Her Smite.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:She dies protecting Mimic from Grinner's dynamite]].
* HolyHandGrenade: The smite, it appears, is for zombies.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Madeline's hoe. Later the same gnome who sold her that offers for sale a [[ProngsOfPoseidon +1 Trident]] (a.k.a. a rake). And the next time Madeline appears, she wields a spade. But then, she can kick butt with both of them. And more recently, she turns a pitchfork into a Trident of Warning.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: The vampire uses the Python to pull out her Evil Side, resulting in... [[spoiler:a two-inch tall Anti-Madeline.]]
-->'''Madeline:''' I'm sorry! Guess I don't have a lot of Evil in me.
* IntrinsicVow: The weakness of a ''dominate'' over her is that she can't do anything against her nature.
* KilledMidSentence: [[spoiler:"That's not what paladins--"]]
* TheKlutz: Turns into this after [[spoiler:her resurrection]]. She can get [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-93/ stuck in a door trying to cross with a stretcher]], and [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-94/ drop a wounded one down a flight of stairs]] from said stretcher. [[spoiler:The radical change, making it clear she's suffered damage, makes it less endearing and more troublesome than usual]].
* LadyLegionnaireWear: Her default outfit.
* LeeroyJenkins: She's not one for standing around idly, nor is she one for intricate planning, often resulting in this type of behavior. If it wasn't for the savvier Stabbs, Prestige and Roxy, she would've charged right back in to try and save Mimic and Cube in Level 7. Later during the mission she just grabs Roxy and Rusty and leaps across the circus, predictably attracting the attention of the entire derro crew.
-->'''Madeline:''' [[AFriendInNeed Your friends need you,]] but you don't rush to help. You just think and plan and use smart words that hide what you mean.
* MeaningfulName: A paladin named Goodlaw. Not very subtle.
* ModestyShorts: Madeline is sensibly wearing (anachronistic) biker shorts under her leather skirt.
* TheNoseKnows: [[http://rustyandco.com/missives/critical-missives-7/ How her detect evil works]]. She later uses her sense of smell to straight-out trail the missing Rusty.
* OffWithHisHead: In Level 6, she is carrying a vorpal halberd (which used to be a shovel) and uses it to one-shot a Remorhaz.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: They appear when she uses HealingHands!
* ThePaladin: One of the best examples on the Internet.
* ProngsOfPoseidon: Receives a +2 Trident of Warning from Zar the Psion just before returning to Reality in Level 7. Bloods it against a girallon in strip [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-61/ #61]]. Its power of detecting hostile aquatic life saves her from a nasty trap in [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-60/ strip #60]].
* ResurrectionSickness: [[spoiler:Has suffered some after-effects from her death and resurrection at the end of Level 7. As per ''D&D'' tradition, when she came BackFromTheDead, she not only lost some memories and assorted EXP, but also seems to have suffered some trauma which hampers her further. A side-plot of Level 8 is Derek, a doctor, trying to help Madeline find back to her old self.]]
* RuggedScar: She has several scars on her face and arms, making it clear that she's a lot more battle-hardened than her otherwise Disney princess-like character design would indicate.
* ShovelStrike: Madeline's weapon of choice in Level 6 is a shovel. She calls it (and uses it as) a vorpal halberd.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Derek when he appears proves patient, reasonable, courageous and taking his oath of non-violence seriously.
* SpinToDeflectStuff: Madeline deflects daggers thrown by Plaidbeard by twirling her hoe.
* SticksToTheBack: Madeline's hoe.
* StupidGood: On occasion. Such as condoling with a monster that still has a companion of hers in a chokehold.
* TookALevelInBadass: Offscreen; every time she reappears she's ground out a lot of levels.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Roxanne Casbaugh]]
[[quoteright:196:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roxanne_0.PNG]]
An elven bard who was reared by human barbarians.
----
* ActionSurvivor: She's not really a fighter like the other girls, but is pretty good at thinking on her feet and gets a lot of mileage out of MagicMusic.
* TheBard: Duh.
* CharmPerson: Her music can manipulate the emotions of others, which is useful for [[WeNeedADistraction distractions]].
* ChekhovsSkill: Roxanne is seen whittling an axe handle and a pointer stick/drawing stylus. Later in the chapter, [[spoiler:she combines her massive Whittling score with her Bard class to make a [[BrownNote dog whistle]] in the middle of a pack of gnolls]].
* ExpressiveAccessory: The feather atop Roxanne's hat flops down or straightens up depending on her mood.
* GuileHeroine: She picks up the slack with her wits and a dab of MagicMusic.
* TheLeader: The level-headed sort, she's the one to take charge when [[spoiler:Mimic and Cube are captured by Grinner]].
* TheMedic: As a Bard, she's got access to a host of HealingHands abilities, and is the character most frequently seen using them.
* MusicForCourage: To the complaints of her companions.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: Roxy is an elf, albeit one raised by humans.
* PointyEars: Really long ones, since she's an elf.
* PunnyName: It's a nod to [[Music/TheClash "Rock the Casbah"]].
* QuirkyBard: Averted; she might be a bard but still is a force to be reckoned with.
* RaisedByHumans: By a barbarian human tribe to be precise, though she takes more after civilized humans. She does ''not'' fit in with [[CantArgueWithElves tribal elves]], who scorn her and view her as little different from a lowly human.
* RoyalRapier: Stabs lends her one during the Level 7 adventure.
* SuperScream: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-title/ She's seen]] learning the ''shout'' spell with help from Presti at the start of Level 7. [[ChekhovsSkill It comes in handy later]].
* WanderingMinstrel
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Stabitha "Stabs" Doogan]]
[[quoteright:297:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stabitha.PNG]]
A cheerful and easy-to-anger halfling rogue, who likes treasure.
----
* TheBartender: After getting lots of loot in an adventure, she bought the bar called "Ye Old Proverbial Hook".
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Everyone calls her "Stabs".
* FantasticSlur: She refers to Medium-sized species as "twicelings".
* FieryRedhead: Big time. Stabs is ''very'' easy to anger or excite.
* {{Halfling}}: Her species.
* HeroicBSOD: As a result of both not liking shoes and being a knife nut, she undergoes a comedic one when she encounters a shoe capable of stabbing someone.
-->'''Stabs:''' They're... shoes. But sharp. But shoes. But sharp.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: In Level 10, the Belt of Genre-Changing shifts the genre to FilmNoir and Stabs finds herself wearing a fancy black dress. She still packs enough knives to turn two threatening goons into pincushions.
* TheNapoleon: Her shorter size lends her to some rather obvious animosity towards her Medium-sized allies.
* TheNoseKnows: It's a Halfling trait. She can tell Presti is a cop by smell.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: The smallest protagonist, and one of the best fighters.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Prestige Perkins]]
[[quoteright:174:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prestige.PNG]]
An overeager human wizard, who works as a law enforcement official for the Princess. Easily excitable.
----
* AddedAlliterativeAppeal: As she says: "[[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-5/ Prestige Perkins, practiced practitioner of practical prestidigitation]]".
* AlliterativeName: According to [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-36/ the file the Grinner has on her supplied to D. D. Burnum's circus]], her full name is '''P'''restige '''[[MysteriousMiddleInitial P.]]''' '''P'''erkins.
* {{BFG}}: Her [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-29/ second]] "Badger Launcher" is a ''literal bazooka'' that fires [[AbnormalAmmo rhinos]]. [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-31/ And]] it can [[FastballSpecial stick other people up the barrel and fire them too]].
* ButtMonkey: Between her crushing student loan debt, being put on cleaning duty for a week right after taking a serious beating, and being [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-35/ knocked]] into a room full of painful traps by a vengeful Stabs, this wizard can't seem to catch a break.
* DeadpanSnarker: She's always got a quip ready for any occasion.
* {{Fireballs}}: Prestige, being at least a level 5 wizard at the time, can cast one, but prefers to save it for big fights.
* GadgeteerGenius: She manages to link together a couple of minor magic items into [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-5/ a gun that fires badgers]], and later upgrades to a [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-35/ weightless bazooka]] that fires rhinos.
* GenkiGirl: Initially. There's a bit of CharacterizationMarchesOn when it comes to this trope.
* GuileHero: Well, Heroine. She has an oddly high success rate for bluffing her way out of things for a Wizard.
* KillItWithIce: She casts two ''ice storm'' spells in quick succession on a group of derro and fire elementals, turning the former into {{Human Popsicle}}s.
* OhMyGods: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-4/ Her reaction]] to Mimic and Cube's trap.
* PajamaCladHero: She spends the whole of Level 11 in her PJ, as the day is so hectic she never gets any time to get dressed.
* PaperThinDisguise: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-24/ It's her ability to fake an illithid's smell that helps pull this off]].
* PurpleIsPowerful: All of her outfits are some variation of purple.
* SassyBlackWoman: As a DeadpanSnarker and the TokenMinority of the main cast.
* SleepMask: She wears one in bed, as seen in the [[https://rustyandco.com/comic/level-11-1 very first page of Level #11.]]
* SmallGirlBigGun: Presti isn't small, but her "MK-II Badger Launcher" is [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-35/ larger than her]].
* TheSmartGirl: She's the Wizard, it comes with the territory.
* SmugSuper: She's a ''[[LinearWarriorsQuadraticWizards Wizard]]'', it comes with the territory. Though, to be less flippant, it's downplayed, but her spells give her her plenty of versatility, and she knows it, and was quite confident in her [[TrojanPrisoner plan]] using them to get into the Burnum Big Top. Arguably her ButtMonkey status is a case of BreakTheHaughty (though it's equally arguable how [[DisproportionateRetribution justified that is]]).
* SuddenlyFluentInGibberish: It turns out she can fully understand Cube's vibrations.
* TryAndFollow: She [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-23/ manages]] to bluff a illithid into jumping out a window.
* VancianMagic: As a wizard, she's forced to follow this system. Her ''[[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-1/ color spray]]'' spells even have the UnsoundEffect "Vance!" to serve as a VisualPun nod to this trope.
[[/folder]]

!The Villains
These guys are generally evil, when they aren't being funny.
----
[[folder:Calamitus]]
[[quoteright:257:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calamiwhatsits.PNG]]
The ultimately cliché EvilSorcerer, much to his detriment.

* GlowingEyesOfDoom
* HarmlessVillain: Played with. Even though he is not a very ''smart'' villain, he ''is'' a powerful enough sorcerer to present some challenge to the group. He is also very hard to kill due to his necromantic powers.
* InTheHood: He wears a hood that obscures his facial features.
* LargeHam: He seems to be absolutely incapable of talking without hamming it up.
%% * LaughablyEvil: Oh yes.
* MesACrowd: Seems to have picked up this trick in his third appearance. It is implied that the Viscount created the duplicates using the same artifact used to create Anti-Madeline.

* {{Necromancer}}: [[spoiler:How he was able to turn Whitey.]] Considering that he came back after being [[spoiler:eaten by Cube]] and has stated that he is not alive, it is probably safe to assume he's also a [[OurLichesAreDifferent lich]].
* ShadowedFaceGlowingEyes: He has these.
* ShockAndAwe: He has lightning powers.

A charming gnoll bandit with a killer smile. Literally.

* ArcVillain: Of Level 4 and Level 7.
* CombatPragmatist: Step 1 of his plan to defeat Rusty and co.? [[spoiler:Hit them while they're already tuckered out from the last adventure.]]

* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Well, half the Gnoll, courtesy of Robespierre.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler:Madeline was his first (and thankfully only) kill]].
* HumiliationConga: [[spoiler:The last moments of his life were not very dignified. He's then subject to MetronomicManMashing by Cube and is promptly thrown off the cliff into the lava screaming to his death, his last stick of dynamite stuck in his hand by one of Stabs' daggers.]]
* MadBomber: Has a thing for dynamite.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: The first time the party faced him, they took him apart with relatively little difficulty. Come his second appearance ([[BackFromTheDead a fair trick on its own]]), and he nearly wipes the party.
* OhCrap: He knows he's in trouble when Cube is let loose, and even more so when his lit stick of dynamite gets stuck in his hand courtesy of Stabs.
* PsychoForHire: His role in Level 7, having been hired by Don Polpo and the Tentacallis to capture Mimic, Rusty, Cube and Prestige as revenge for attacking the illithid mafia. He also acts as TheHeavy for that arc, primarily due to the ilithid mafiosos [[RealLifeWritesThePlot being unable to appear in future strips as a result of legal action with Wizards of the Coast]].
* PullingThemselvesTogether: Offscreen (and with a few parts replaced), but he did this.
* SmugSnake: Seems to consider himself the smartest humanoid in any room, loses it when his plan goes awry, shows nothing but contempt to his enemies, underlings and relatives, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking laughs at his own jokes]]. To buck the stereotype, he's also frighteningly competent.
* TheStrategist: If the intricacy of his trap for the party is anything to go by.
* TakingYouWithMe: Declares that he's going to do this to Cube. [[spoiler:Stabs makes sure he doesn't get to pull it off.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: After the crew fall face-first into his meticulously constructed ambush but it fails anyway, his suave façade falls apart into {{Angrish}} in three pages flat.

* DumbMuscle: He is very big and strong, but not particularly intelligent and frequently goofs up his orders.
* PunchClockVillain: As soon as Grinner is defeated, his next line is "You hiring?" He proceeds to become a bouncer for Stabitha's bar.
* TooDumbToFool: Unlike the derro minions, he doesn't run off when Roxy pretends to be the Princess to intimidate them, and innocently takes her hat off - which results in him immediately recognizing her as one of those he's supposed to fight. Dumb as he is, however, he tries to "fetch" her instead of killing her and capturing Rusty.
* {{Tuckerization}}: Not of a supporter, but of his pet pug.

----
* AccentSlipUp: [[spoiler:When disguising herself as Madeline, she mostly manages to avoid using the letter "S", but cannot avoid SssssnakeTalk when she does use it.]]
%% * CuteMonsterGirl
* EnemyMine:
** She teamed up with the trio in Level 6 to go against a pair of hipster vampires who stole a relic from the lamias.
** And again in Level 9, where she's paired with Madeline and Rusty at Hotel Califormian, as a result of a readers' poll.
* {{Guile Hero}}ine: She prefers deception (pretending to be human to lure the group in) and cleverness ([[spoiler:calling in a garlic pizza order for the hipster vampires]]) over direct confrontation.
* HeelFaceTurn: Y.T. is first introduced as a villain out to kill the trio in chapter 5. In chapter 6, she becomes a reluctant ally to go after the vampires who stole a relic from her people and inflicted her with "empathy". She's pretty much joined the girls contingent by Level 9 and can be considered another ally of the party.
* LackOfEmpathy: Used to be the case, what with being an AlwaysChaoticEvil monster. Then the Hipster Vampires stole her people's [[RealityWarper reality warping device]] and used it to give her a sense of morality. [[BeingGoodSucks She's terribly annoyed by this]]. Even when she gets chances to revert herself back to normal, that same conscience leaves her feeling very conflicted about taking them, and she ultimately chooses to stay the way she is now.
* LowerHalfReveal: [[https://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-14/ When Y.T. is first introduced,]] she's standing behind a rock outcropping hiding her lower body, hence Mimic and Presti mistake her for some green-skinned humanoid. Only when she attacks with her constricting tail do they realize she's a [[SnakePeople snakewoman]].
* TheSmartGirl: Clearly prefers brain over brawn, as proven against the Hipster Vampires. In "Hostel Califormian", she also demonstrates solid deductive skills.
* {{Retcon}}: Due to legal issues, she went from being a yuan-ti to a lamia and her name became Yvonne-Tiffany.
* SnakePeople: As a lamia/yuan-ti (it's implied there are others). She has a humanoid torso but a large rattlesnake tail instead of legs.
* SssssnakeTalk: Coupled with a Western accent.

* TheMafia: He sits at the head of a fantastic counterpart of this.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Hired [[spoiler: The Grinner]] in his last appearance, presumably kicking off the adventures of Level 7.
* MeaningfulName: ''Polpo'' is ''octopus'' in Italian. It's fitting for an illithid.
* PutOnABus: Has not been seen since the end of Level 5, despite still having a vendetta against the heroes. 351Blackguard and uncommonly prudent minion.
----
* AlliterativeName: Upon being introduced to the court as a petitioner, he is addressed as '''M'''orrison '''M'''alevolus.
* AristocratsAreEvil: He's a Duke, and [[spoiler:is aiding the Viscount in his scheme so he can remove the Princess from power and ascend to the throne.]]
* DirtyCoward: His sense of self-preservation prevails over any assignment he could be given, unfortunately for the Tantacallis. He's also prompt to threaten hostages in exchange of being let go unharmed, and is quick to surrender when things go south.
* HarmlessVillain: The way the Princess's supporters see him. His attempts at assassinating her haven't exactly been subtle, but they don't see him as having any chance at succeeding, so they have left him be. However, even if Malevolus by himself is harmless, that doesn't mean that more competent villains can't use him...
* LastSecondWordSwap: He switches his BadassBoast to directions [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-19/ when he realizes he will lose]].
* PoisonedWeapons: Tries to attacks the Doogan brothers with a poisoned dagger, but ends up the one being victim of it.

* RoyalBlood: [[spoiler:He's actually a distant relative of the Princess, meaning that if certain people (including her) were to be "removed", he would be crowned king.]]
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:

** When the Derro performer Dog Town shows up at the castle to take the Princess [[spoiler:(actually Roxy)]] hostage while Malevolus is there as a petitioner, he makes a break for the exit.
* SocialClimber: He desires to rise in station, and despite his best efforts has not managed to keep it subtle. Given he went from Sir Malevolus to Duke Malevolus in the time span between Levels 5 and 11, he seems to have been successful. [[spoiler:He seeks to rise further and be crowned king, which as [[RoyalBlood a cousin of the Princess]] he would be able to do if she were to be "removed".]]
* SpeechBubbles: He speaks in a black-letter font, on vaguely scroll-shaped bubbles. When making an effort to disguise his voice, the speech bubbles turn to normal.

A brother and sister, and oh so hip.
----
* AchillesHeel: "Koenig" claims that he's used the MacGuffin of the adventure to [[RemovedAchillesHeel remove all of their vampire weaknesses]], so Y.T. exploits his ''hipster'' weaknesses by shoving a pizza in his face and letting his intolerance to gluten [[ImMelting do the rest]].
* AxCrazy: "Ezra" seems less concerned with being a hipster, and more with getting into fights and causing pain.
* BigBad: "Koenig", the male, is the one calling the shots, and whose plan started the whole Level 6 adventure.
* BlackEyesOfCrazy: Black eyes with yellow pupils.
* CuteLittleFangs
* TheDragon: "Ezra", the female, is the one most willing to tussle physically with the heroes.
* GenderBlenderName: "Ezra"
* {{Hipster}}: The cast page refers to Koenig as a "vampire hipster" while Ezra is a "hipster vampire". The significance of this comes when Y.T. targets their hipster gluten intolerance with a pizza. Koenig is apparently more hipster than vampire and dies in seconds, while Ezra is more vampire than hipster and eats the pizza without worry.
* HypnoticEyes: "Ezra" has swirly black-and-yellow eyes when she uses her domination power on Madeline.
* ImmortalityHurts: A running gag with "Ezra".
* ItsQuietTooQuiet: ''So'' cliché!
* LackOfEmpathy: Besides the whole "unleash an EldritchAbomination because we're bored" plan, the two do not show much concern for anyone's pain and suffering, even each other's. In Koenig's case, it could be explained as just him being an AloofBigBrother, since he knows his sister is invincible, and thus fine. Ezra responding to Koenig being [[KilledOffForReal reduced to a desiccated skeleton by]] a pizza by ''peeling the pizza off his face to eat it'', and noting the same trick won't work on her... less so.
* LogicalWeakness: DoubleSubverted when Y.T. kills "Koenig" by shoving a pizza in his face. Mimic expects that it was the pizza's triple garlic toppings that killed him, but "Ezra" reminds them that they used the MacGuffin to remove all their vampire weaknesses. Instead, Y.T. exploited his ''hipster'' weaknesses and used his gluten intolerance to kill him.
* LosingYourHead: A vampire can indeed survive this. Cube finally counters her regeneration by [[HeadTurnedBackwards twisting the head backward]].
* OffWithHerHead: Happens to "Ezra"... at least half a dozen times already.
* RedOniBlueOni: "Ezra" and "Koenig", respectively.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: "Ezra" [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-6-67/ makes a break for it]] when Y.T. gets her hands on the MacGuffin that removed their vampire weaknesses, and [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-6-66/ tricks her into thinking that she put them back]].
* SeenItAll: Something they frequently complain about and their motive for summoning an EldritchAbomination. ''Then'' they'll see something new.
* ShoutOut: The names Mimic gives them are one to [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezra_Koenig Ezra Koenig]], the frontman for the indie rock band Music/VampireWeekend.
* SiblingsInCrime
* UndeadBarefooter: "Ezra" initially just wears flip-flops, and those are not terribly fitting for running around and fighting, so she soon ends up barefoot and stays this way.
* TheUnpronounceable: The brother claims their names are this, which leads to them being given nicknames.
* WardrobeWound: "Ezra" cares more for the damage done to her dress than to her regenerating body.
-->'''Ezra:''' That dress was '''vintage!'''
* WeaksauceWeakness: "Koenig" gets reduced to a skeleton through his trendy gluten intolerance.

[[quoteright:239:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/antimaddi.PNG]]
The physical embodiment of all of the evil in Madeline. She's a few inches tall.
----
* BoisterousWeakling: Self-proclaims herself as awesome. She's obviously incapable of directly fighting pretty much anyone.
* EnemyWithout: She's the darkness inside Madeline given form through magic. However, because the Paladin is close to IncorruptiblePurePureness, the spell hasn't much to work with and results in a tiny EvilCounterpart. She failed to inherit Madeline's crush on Derrick, or even any memory of his existence, but would gladly kill him in front of her on principle if made aware.
* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt: In Level 10, she pops out a flamethrower to torch Hortzak. [[NoSell He's largely unaffected]], but the point wasn't to directly harm him -- it was to light all [[HoistByHisOwnPetard the free samples of dynamite he carries with him all the time]], blowing him up.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: Giving advice on Malevolus's shoulder. He asks for the other one -- and regrets it.
* FashionableAsymmetry: The top of her armor is asymmetrical, with one arm-guard on the left side and one shoulder-pad on the right.
* IncomingHam: She might be small, but her entrance is big!
-->'''Anti-Madeline:''' I exist, bitches! Oooooh yeah, tremble at the might of... ANTI-MADELINE!
* LadySwearsALot: The verbal bombs she drops are all covered by {{censor box}}es. She has at least one box for every page she shows up in.
* {{Lilliputians}}: Minus the plural, since she's the only one. A Patreon reward bonus comic shows her adventuring in a mouse kingdom.
* MadBomber: Picked up a fondness for dynamite somewhere along the line. Oddly enough, [[spoiler:after Madeline proper was killed by the stuff]], though that's probably coincidence.
* PaletteSwap: As fitting for an opposite, her color scheme is largely an inversion of the colors Madeline usually wears, the armor in various tones of orange and brown becoming light to dark blue on Anti-Madeline.
* ShoulderTeammate: Likes to get up on Malevolus's shoulder once she joins up with him.
* SinisterScythe: She brandishes a miniature one, following her GoodCounterpart's propensity for farm implements as weapons.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Her armor includes spikes on the shoulder-pad and around her hips.
* StealthExpert: It's hard to notice someone a few inches tall sneaking around, which she takes advantage of to steal Derek's artifact.
-->'''Anti-Madeline:''' ''[thinking]'' Well, if there's one upside to being beneath notice, it's being beneath notice!
* SymbolSwearing: As an alternative to her cuss words simply being censored, her swearing is sometimes rendered as symbols.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: In one [[https://rustyandco.com/comic/critical-missives-39/ "Critical Missive",]] [[MadBomber Anti-Madeline]] has lots of trouble with the concept that there is more to life [[StuffBlowingUp than blowing up stuff]].

[[folder:The Viscount]]
A villain introduced in level 8. He has ties with devils and seeks to use Malevolus as a PuppetKing.
----
* CantKillYouStillNeedYou: While annoyed with the fungi-infested [[spoiler:Grawlf]]'s attempted betrayal, he spares him since the distraction he poses to the heroes is worth slightly more than his life.
* GambitRoulette: His plans are so complicated and unlikely that he would surely need a {{Seer|s}} to make them work, and yet they somehow do. Zar describes his faction as being experts in predicting the protagonists' moves.
* TheManBehindTheMan: While he has powerful support, he prefers to operate in the background.
* NonActionBigBad: He prefers to use the most surreptitious means at his disposal. If absolutely pressed into a fight, the Viscount never does anything particularly flashy. At most, he might leave you to an invisible bodyguard or spray your face with poison.
* TheShadowKnows: He has a shadow that is slightly off with his silhouette, looking like he's carrying something horned with a pointy tail on his shoulder. Most likely, an invisible imp or some similar familiar creature.
* SpeechBubbles: All the connectors to his speech bubbles are doing a little loop, hinting of a flowery or upper-class way of speaking.

[[folder:Interdimensional Horror from Beyond the Edge of Reality]]
One or more species of EldritchAbomination, first summoned in level 6, and appearing again in level 8. Apparently very bad for the world if left unchecked.
----
* TwoDVisualsThreeDEffects: Rendered in 3D CGI against the usual 2D comic style, to accentuate their otherworldly nature.
* CombatTentacles: Their preferred method of attack. Note the tentacles are tipped with blades and can easily do {{Clean Cut}}s.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: One gets blown to smithereens with a crap load of explosives.
* EldritchAbomination: They have four eyes and many tentacles.
* ExtraEyes: Has four eyes in a row.
* GiantEnemyCrab: Looks like a mutated giant crab with two large pincers, although with a worm-like crustacean body.
* NonMaliciousMonster: They aren't particularly intelligent or malicious. They are basically just hungry beasts looking for food.
* StealthPun: The fact they are rendered in 3D, considering they are from ''another dimension''.

Barbarian. Made a cameo in the earliest strips, only to reappear as Roxy's adoptive brother.
----
* AscendedExtra: He's just a recurring extra used for some gags in the early levels, but he's central to starting the plot of level 8 and becomes a supporting protagonist.
* BloodKnight: Deeply annoyed that cleverness and speed win the game.
* DistressedDude: During Level 3.
* GeniusBruiser: Despite his BloodKnight tendencies, he's also capable of coming up with clever tactics that incorporate the environment and his teammates' proficiencies and abilities into account.
* HulkSpeak: "ROBESPIEREE SMASH!"
* ImpactSilhouette: As shown in "[[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-66/ Level 8: #66]]": When angry enough, he leaves the bar through the wall, leaving such a hole.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Trapped between him and a monster, Mimic calls on his "bodyguard" to protect him; both assume it's the other, and Mimic escapes.
* NeverLearnedToRead: Being a member of the barbarian class, he never learned to read. [[spoiler:After experiencing a considerable amount of frustration, he ends up picking up some "new tricks" and demonstrates by reading a children's book.]]
* ThereWasADoor: Roxy realizes he's leaving; Stabs objects that he's not going to a door; Roxy is right.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Nevertheless regards Roxy as a respected member of Robespierre's family, despite insistence on using personal pronouns.
* VisibleSilence: Robespierre does this upon being approached by an information-seeking Mimic.

A farmer in an alternate dimension who gives the Action Girls team useful advice about the danger.
----
* CallToAgriculture: He raises flowers. Mind, you, flowers made of gold.
* ChromeDomePsi: A typical Psion (the ''D&D'' psionic class) with a completely bald head.
* LevitatingLotusPosition: Zar the Psion uses floating in this posture to get around.
* OminousMessageFromTheFuture: He comes from five weeks into the most likely future. To ensure the world's future safety, he passes advice back into the present. He usually keeps his guidance as minimal as possible to avoid a ButterflyOfDoom, but when he goes up against the Viscount's faction, the Princess points out that this won't work anymore because his enemies do not care about his rules and have the ability to change the most likely future.
* ProphecyTwist: He tends to be cryptic when giving out advice. He basically represents the most likely future five weeks from the present. In order to ensure a StableTimeLoop, he tries to give guidance with a light hand.
* PsychicPowers: Telepathy, levitation, and clairvoyance -- at least.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Though non-evil and rather helpful, annoying him will make [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-7-17/ his eyes glow a menacing red]].
* {{Tuckerization}}: Of a supporting RPG character.
* YearInsideHourOutside:
** From his dialogue, there is a time differential going on in the magical dimension where the girls meet him.
--->'''Zar:''' One day ago, for you, and five weeks ago, for me, was the largest sustained breach our Reality ever experienced.
** A later strip indicates that he's simply located [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-9-3/ later]] in the time stream, so he's more of a [[OminousMessageFromTheFuture messenger from the future]]. Except [[SubvertedTrope he refuses]] to convey any clear information.

[[folder:Dirk and Kris]]
[[quoteright:336:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dirk_and_kris.PNG]]
[[caption-width-right:336:Kris is on the left, Dirk is on the right.]]
A pair of Halfling rogues and Stabs's cousins.
----
* BigEater: Kris. Malevolus comments on it while wondering whether to [[spoiler:poison him]].
* CasanovaWannabe: Kris has no problem flirting with twiceling females. Stabs is familiar enough with his attempts to assure Dorilys that he's easily distracted.
* KickedUpstairs: [[spoiler:Since they were on the team that won the gnomish baseball tournament, arresting them for their crimes and all the trouble they caused would have been a hassle. So instead, the game officials gave them jobs where they can have an eye kept on them.]]
* MeaningfulName: Knives seem to be a theme for the Doogan family. Kris actually fights with a pair of krises, and Dirk with a pair of dirks.
* MissingStepsPlan: Kris decides that he wants to try using a future-predicting artifact to help win a match. He doesn't have a clue how it works, and the last time he used it, he got lost in a trance. His proposed solution is to shake it, expecting that to somehow make it work.
* PaperThinDisguise: After Stabs is imprisoned, the two try to sneak into the prison by stacking on top of each other to form a bigger person. No-one is fooled, and they only annoy the games officials that were already thinking of letting Stabs off lightly, making it UnwantedAssistance.
* SiblingsInCrime: In Level 8, they are hiding out from someone who tried to hire them for an assassination mission. They refused, but that was the target, not the job.
* ThievesCant: Family conversations often need translations for the audience.
* ThroughHisStomach: Kris offers Dorilys a sandwich in an inept pass.

[[folder:Dorilys Happ]]
[[quoteright:121:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dorilys.PNG]]
A human cleric, a friend of Madeline's, and green.
----
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: She has green skin and was mistaken for an orc at first sight by some readers, but WordOfGod confirms she's actually just an oddly colored human. According to the FourthWallMailSlot, she was part of a team that ended up having to drink from a cursed pool that turned all of them green.
* BerserkButton: She blames Mimic for Madeline's [[spoiler:ResurrectionSickness]] and makes her displeasure very clear.
* CombatMedic: Implied. Unlike Derek, she didn't take a vow of non-violence, and wears armor reminiscent of Madeline's (except silver).
* DeathGlare: [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-69/ Dorilys wears one that manages to make her look dangerous while]] [[ImprovisedWeapon brandishing a feather]].
* DisasterDominoes:
** Does this deliberately, [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-70/ somehow setting off a chain reaction by tickling someone's nose with a feather, which has the end result of making Malevolus poison himself instead of his targets.]]
** [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-73/ Later Mimic manages to tap in on it.]] [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-74/ Dorilys warns him against doing it again, because he has no idea what he got into.]]
* GuileHeroine: With a judiciously placed kick, she [[spoiler:takes out a troll with an upside-down cake]] while still leaning on the wall.
* ImprovisedWeapon: It's amazing what you can do with [[spoiler:a cake]].
* LadyLegionnaireWear: Her outfit -- rather similar to Madeline's.
* TheMedic: First appears in the hospital, with the armband, during the gnomish baseball game.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: One of the people in charge of the Games' rules and regulations, and not above [[BotheringByTheBook using that authority]] when she's feeling vindictive.
* PunnyName: Dorylis the Luck cleric, a.k.a. "Miss Happ".
* RebelRelaxation: When waiting [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-43/ at the hospital]] or [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-67/ bar]].
* StatuesqueStunner: In the opinion of the halfling Kris. "[[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-62/ Jolly green giant]]" was probably not the wisest way to put it.
* {{Tuckerization}}: Of a Kickstarter supporter's ''D&D'' character.
* WindsOfDestinyChange: As a cleric of luck she can cause extremely improbable events with simple actions. She warns Mimic not to mess with it as it produces a large amount of bad luck to produce a much smaller amount of targeted good luck.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Derek Hyssop]]
An associate of Madeline's, whom she has a crush on. Also a Cleric.
----
* ActualPacifist: Thanks to his vow of non-violence.
* BadassPacifist: Has no qualms whatsoever about standing between a furious troll and his patient and offering to discuss the matter. When he later participates in an actual fight, while he does not himself attack, he shows himself to be fully capable of defending himself and manages to immobilize two of his three opponents before the fight is stopped.
* BlindfoldedVision: Like Madeline, closes his eyes when he needs to actually fight. We still don't know why.
* {{Foil}}: To Dorilys. Derek's a pure healer cleric who took a vow of non-violence. Dorilys on the other hand, is more or less the classic "ChurchMilitant in plate armor" Cleric. They even have the appropriate [[RedOniBlueOni temperaments]].
* TheGhost: Does not appear for some time. For logical reasons. [[spoiler:Though one cameo, unnamed, turns out to have been him.]]
* {{Herald}}: Twice sent Maddie off with prophecies that led to adventure.
* IGaveMyWord: He explicitly points out that he didn't take his vow to ignore it when it is inconvenient, and it's clear that he doesn't like technicalities.
* IntrinsicVow: Has definitely taken a vow (discussed with Dorilys), and after a few comics it became clear that it is to be an ActualPacifist.
* TheMedic: First appears in a hospital.
* ObliviousToLove: In face of Madeline's CrushBlush, [[http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-41/ he wonders about whether she's well, since she's flushed.]]
* PropheciesRhymeAllTheTime: All the prophetic quest hooks he gives to Madeline are rhyming poems.
* RhymingNames: He is usually called Derek the Cleric. Mimic lampshades this when Madeline reveals that he was the one who gave her the rhyming prophecies.
-->'''Mimic:''' Where're ya getting these little rhymes from anyways?\
'''Madeline:''' Derek the Cleric.\
'''Mimic:''' Silly me for askin'.
* {{Seer|s}}: He owns an artifact that simulates probabilities and has the training required to use it. His prophecies have sent Madeline on her quests.
* SummonMagic: Uses the ''planar ally'' spell to summon an angel while battling Calamitus.
* ThereAreNoTherapists: {{Averted}}. Derek is apparently a capable therapist, and attempts some counseling to help Maddie with her ResurrectionSickness.
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: His vow does not apply to creatures that are not alive.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Drago Stromscale and The Thunder]]
----
* {{Determinator}}: Nothing will dissuade him from winning the gnomish baseball tournament. Not his teammates getting blown up by exploding bases, not an army of mages attempting regicide on-pitch, not monsters from beyond reality attacking the players...
-->'''Drago:''' ''[pointing to giant angel fighting an EldritchAbomination]'' '''thaht is just another obstacle! nothink more!''' now [[PunctuatedForEmphasis pick. up. that. bat.]]
* MonsterAdventurers: A harpy, a mummy, an eddercap, a dragon-kin, a galeb duhr, a minotaur, and a rust monster, to be precise.
* PaintingTheMedium: He talks in all lower-case, indicating his limited ability to speak Common.
* PetTheDog: Gives his approval to one of his teammates forming a relationship with a member of a rival team, saying that one cannot be a monster all the time.
* TwoGirlsToATeam: Averted. The team has at least three female members.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Planar Ally (Angelissa)]]
An angel summoned by Derek to assist the team against Calamitus and the Interdimensional Horror.
----
* AllThereInTheScript: The creator of the original character specified her name is Angelissa.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Her eyes glow a divine blue/white.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: She's an astral deva.
* RentAZilla: She towers over all the other characters, presumably so she can go toe-to-toe with the Interdimensional Horror.
* ShadowDiscretionShot: The first thing we see of her is the shadow of one of her wings falling over Rusty, Presti and the Calamitus clones.
* {{Tuckerization}}: Of a Patreon supporter's original character.
* WingedHumanoid: She has four wings.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tarta Moon-Shiner]]
[[quoteright:253:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tarta.PNG]]
A dwarven druid who comes to Mimic in search of help on a quest.
----
* BearsAreBadNews: She can turn into one as a part of her abilities as a druid.
* InTheBack: [[spoiler:Slashes the Princess and Mimic from behind.]]
* InvoluntaryShapeshifting: Her druid powers are emotion-based, meaning they fall under this. [[spoiler:Or at least she pretends too; she was probably faking it all along.]]
* MeaningfulName: Her name is a letter off from [[spoiler:tartan, a type of plaid. Her full first name is actually Tartania, and she's Plaidbeard's daughter.]]
* {{Revenge}}: Wants it against [[spoiler:Mimic for destroying her inheritance, her father's railship.]]
* SerialKiller: [[spoiler:She has been repeatedly murdering mimics while tracking down the one that blew up her father's ship.]]
* SwordBeam: By swinging her dagger, she can slash people with a fierce air current.
* TenderTears: When she gets poked with Anti-Madeline's dagger, she begins to tear up.
* WolfInSheepsClothing: While she seems innocent and harmless enough, Mimic suspects her of being one due to her being the client in a NoirEpisode. [[spoiler:Her betrayal still manages to take him by surprise. She only acted innocent long enough to confirm whether Boxford was the mimic that blew up her inheritance.]]
* YouKilledMyFather: Subverted. After she reveals her true identity, [[spoiler:she states her motivation for revenge against Mimic after the latter blew up her father's ship. Mimic apologizes for her father's fate, but Tartania states that she doesn't care about ''him'' as much as the inheritance that was destroyed.]]
