The main characters of ''Anime/QueensBlade''.
----
[[foldercontrol]]

!!The Vance Sisters
[[folder:In General]]
* BadassFamily: At least, as far as [[ActionGirl the women of the family]] are concerned.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: From the youngest to the eldest of the trio it's: Elina (the blonde), Leina (the brunette), and Claudette (the redhead).
* TheDutifulDaughter: Played straight for Elina and Claudette, despite their personalities not matching with the stereotype, but subverted with Leina. [[spoiler:In fact, Leina's loyalty towards her family is what makes her decide to forfeit the title of queen to Claudette, [[NiceJobBreakingItHero and causing the events of the sequel to happen a year later]]]].
* FallenPrincess: Not the sisters themselves, but their entire family; in ages past, the Vance family ''ruled the world''. Then the gods personally toppled them, reducing them to "only" average nobility, and decreed that the world was never to have hereditary monarchy again, ever, which is how the Queen's Blade tournament came to exist.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: None of them know the identity of the person who killed their mother [[spoiler:(it was Aldra)]]. The only persons who know the truth are [[spoiler:their father and Echidna]]. Unlike other examples of this trope, they never found out the truth.
* LonelyRichKid: Before the events of the tournament, the three of them didn't have any friends outside of the family and in Elina and Claudette's case, they only trust each other and no one else.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Their last name is possibly based in the American fantasy and sci-fi writer, Creator/JackVance, one of the precursors of the ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' franchise. [[{{Irony}} Ironically]], none of them can use ''VancianMagic''.
* RoyallyScrewedUp: Their family ties aren't exactly ''healthy'', to put it kindly. If this is a family trait, it's no wonder the gods replaced their family with the Queen's Blade Tournament.
* SiblingTeam: Only in the videogames. In other adaptations, their relationship is more complex.
* TragicHeroine: Let's face it: Their lives really '''sucked''', despite being nobles, and very especially, Claudette on the grounds that she's a bastard daughter. [[spoiler:Ironically, Claudette is the only one who gets a more or less happy ending at the end of ''Rebellion'', on the other hand Elina got injured and Leina is possibly cursed for life and having to live with the name of her mother for the remainder of her life]].

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyakoKawasumi (Japanese), Debbie Rabbai [[note]] credited as Angora Deb [[/note]] (English)
->'''Artist:''' Hirokazu Hisayuki
->'''Title:''' The Wandering Warrior (original series and ''Unlimited''), The Phantom Warrior (''Rebellion'')

->''"I'm sorry, Father, but your daughter chooses to be an adventurer."''

Middle daughter of the Vance family and heiress to the Count's throne. She ran away from home to follow her mother's footsteps as a warrior and now travels the world, hoping to become a stronger warrior by entering the Queen's Blade Tournament. Leina is the main protagonist of the Queen's Blade anime as well as the mascot character of the Queen's Blade franchise.
----
* ActionGirl: She's the heroine of the series and it's official mascot, so it's to be expected.
* AdaptationalWimp: BIG TIME in the anime. Unlike her gamebook counterpart, who was a badass from day one, her animated counterpart is a angst-ridden girl who loses and gets humiliated frequently ([[TookALevelInBadass at first, at least]]), and has A LOT of personal problems, due to her background as a noble, at least until she meets both Risty and Echidna. Possibly justified to avoid her being too powerful from the start.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Leina is well aware of Elina's desire for her, but the feeling isn't mutual. Elina still paws at her every chance she gets, which is part of the reason Leina ran away from home and doesn't intend to return. Despite this, [[SkinshipGrope Leina still indulges her from time to time.]]
* AloneInACrowd: Heavily implied in both the anime series and in the gamebooks' continuity: Since she was the heiress of the Vances, she didn't have the same fame (and recognition) as her father and [[ActionGirl her sisters]], and she wants to be like her mother to change that.
* AnimalMotifs: The Dragon, [[TigerVersusDragon compared with Elina and her family's Tiger]], due of the name of her FinishingMove (Dragon Tail) and because her personality is not as aggressive as Elina's.
* {{Angst}}: Not as bad as [[VideoGame/FatalFury Rock Howard]], but she has her moments.
* BadassAdorable: Has an endearingly innocent childishness when it comes to the harsh realities of the world, but still grows into one of the biggest badasses in the continent.
* BadassNormal: In the gamebooks' continuity, since she doesn't have any special moves, other than being a great swordswoman.
* BerserkButton:
** A mild one that happens only in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga: Insulting her family in her face can piss her off, as Risty finds out when she meets her for first time.
** Possibly her biggest BerserkButton is being called a ''loser bitch'', [[spoiler:And she decides to kick ass in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=] after being humillated and tortured almost to madness by Werbellia's henchmen when one of them press this button on her]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is a nice person, but she can and ''will'' kick your ass if you underestimate her. This goes double for people who press one of her [[BerserkButton Berserk Buttons]].
* BladeSpam: Both the Meteo Swing in the ''Spiral Chaos'' games and ''Arc Sign'' version of the [[FinishingMove Dragon Tail]].
* BraidsOfAction: They came along with her ImportantHaircut.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: She gets brainwashed by Menace into becoming her servant for one episode.
* BringMyBrownPants: She pees herself twice in the first episode during both encounters with Melona. This happens a third time in the alternate ending of her ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVA=] episode.
* ButtMonkey: Mild case in Season 1, where she was on the receiving end of a large part of the combat-induced FanService. [[HumiliationConga None of it compares to what she goes through in the third ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVA=], though]].
* CharClone: [[spoiler:Her new looks and personality in ''Rebellion'' really gives that vibe, althrough her mask is more like the one used by [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Graham Aker/Mr. Bushido.]]]]
* CharlesAtlasSuperPower: In the animated adaptations and in the videogames.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam Exia]]
* DarkestHour: The third episode of the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=] has possibly the darkest situation ever inflicted onto a single character in the entire franchise: [[spoiler:She's captured by Werbellia, becomes her personal slave, is tortured to the point of madness and is physically abused by everyone (except Liliana). Depending of the ending, she manages to escape or in the non-canon alternative ending, it's implied she ends being raped by '''everyone''' and brought back to her castle, mentally destroyed]].
* DemotedToExtra:
** The Hide & Seek manga continuity largely shifts the focus from Leina, who only makes occasional appearances, and onto both her sisters instead. Though she remains the heroine of the story.
** Similarly, and despite being a reboot of the original continuity where she was the protagonist, ''Unlimited'' follows Elina's journey to find Leina, once again leaving her as an extra.
* DependingOnTheArtist: Since her [[FinishingMove Dragon Tail]] is an exclusive staple from the anime and the videogames, that move is depicted in different ways, depending of the media involved:
** In the TV series, the Dragon Tail is depicted as a very powerful ramming move that can (in theory) impale the opponent and can be used as both as a type-A MeteorMove [[spoiler:([=OVAs=])]] and also as a LauncherMove (when used as a first time against Echidna).
** In the ''Spiral Chaos'' games, the Dragon Tail is basically a SpamAttack version of [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Saber's Excalibur]].
** In the ''Arc Sign'' online game, it's a BladeSpam.
** Averted in the gamebooks and manga adaptations, as she only use quick sword attacks and some melee techniques, not to mention having a very good footwork.
* DeterminedExpression: Gives one hell of a glare to Nanael when she needs her help to fight the Swamp Witch Serpent in the anime series. Borders ''very closely'' on DeathGlare territory, since she looks ''royally pissed.''
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: After being tortured and beaten in the third ''Vanquished Queens'' OVA [[spoiler:along with being subjected to sexual humiliation]]. Which nearly caused her to lose her will to fight, to the point of being unable to fight back [[spoiler:against a ''weak'' male pirate]].
* EleventhHourSuperPower: [[spoiler:During the final battle against Delmore in his OneWingedAngel form, she destroys him by using an upgraded version of the [[FinishingMove Dragon Tail]] named ''Thunder Dragon Tail''. She used that move again in the ''Beautiful Warriors'' OVA, except she use it ''downwards'']].
* {{Expy}}: Gameplay-wise, from the gamebooks, from Amulf of Peth, of the original Lost Worlds' books.
* FamedInStory: Very much so in the sequel, [[spoiler:where she is admired by pretty much everyone in The Continent for defeating Aldra and winning the tournament.]]
* FoeTossingCharge: She loves to use this tactic in the anime, with different results. Oddly enough, she doesn't rams her opponents in ''QB Spiral Chaos''.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's pretty innocent, beautiful, young and maybe one of the kindest characters of the series.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Possibly due to the death of her mother, she doesn't think she is qualified to become a ruler like her father, and she thinks Claudette fits better in that job. [[spoiler:When she wins the tournament, she forfeit the title to Claudette, so she could travel around the world to become a warrior]].
* HumiliationConga: Deliberately invoked by [[spoiler:Werbellia]], who subjects Leina to [[KickTheDog the worst]] NoHoldsBarredBeatdown in the series.
* ICallItVera: Her sword, Edenfeld, which means ''Wind of Victory'' in Dwarvish.
* ImmodestOrgasm: [[spoiler:She has several in the third ''"Vanquished Queens"'' OVA episode]].
* ImportantHaircut: She gives herself one in the first episode. It also happens in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, when Melona grabs her by her hair and she has to cut her hair with her sword to be able to get rid of her. Averted in ''Unlimited'', where she keeps her hair long.
* InformedFlaw: According to her profile, she dislikes corsets, but we see her using them many times in the anime series and in the gamebooks' sidestories.
** Also, according to Hans, she's very picky about food, but taking into account both the anime series, the various manga series and the gamebooks so far, she's anything ''but'' picky about that.
* LivingLegend: [[spoiler:She becomes this after winning the tournament, to the grade that the sole mention of her name can scare even hardened criminals.]]
* LustObject: It's all but canonically stated that Elina wants to scissor her, as one of the ED animations shows Elina groping Leina and several pieces of their official art borders on outright incest.
* MadeOfIron: She's able to shrug off blows that normally can kill any other human being, like surviving an explosion ''at close range'', falling off from cliffs, etc.
* MeaningfulName: "Reina", her alternate name (should "L" be replaced with "R", which does exist in the Japanese language), means [[spoiler:"queen" in Spanish -- she won the Queen's Blade tournament, but decided on forfeiting the title to Claudette.]] It's also a proper female Japanese name[[note]]Like [[Music/HelloProject Reina Tanaka.]][[/note]]
** While this is also overlaps with ShoutOut as well, her name sound phonetically similar to ''Lena Brande'' the main heroine from ''VideoGame/{{Valis}} 4'', taking into account all the references to ''Valis'' in the whole franchise. In the same way, her battle name in Japanese in both the original series and ''Rebellion'', ''The Wandering Warrior/Rurou no Senshi'' and [[spoiler:''The Phantom Warrior/Gen'ei no Senshi'']] respectively, sound similar to the part of the Japanese name of the ''VideoGame/{{Valis}}'' franchise and also Yuko Asou's battle name who is ''The Fantasm Soldier/Mugen Senshi'', especially in [[spoiler:''Rebellion'']].
* MegaManning: [[spoiler:In the final episode, Leina is revealed to have adapted techniques from Claudette, Tomoe, and possibly others.]]
* MegatonPunch: [[spoiler:In the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, this is the move she uses against Aldra to defeat her in the tournament]].
* MidSeasonUpgrade: After her sword got trashed in her latest battle during the tournament, Leina asked help to both Rana and Ymir to repair her sword and, with some help of some magic stones Rana had in hand, both managed to repair her sword, turning it into ''Edenfeld''.
* MissingMom: Her mother, Maria, died when she participated in a Queen's Blade tournament when Leina was a child (or by an illness in ''Hide and Seek'' manga). Her death really traumatized her ''hard'' even to her adult age [[spoiler:to the extreme Leina uses her mother's name in QB Rebellion as an alias]].
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: A very remarkable trait of her in all adaptations: Even if she doesn't agree with her sisters' (and by default her family, by running away from them) mindset, she still cares about them as much as she can, especially towards Claudette, due to her background. [[spoiler:The sequel shows how this kind of mentality can be harmful, not only for her, but for everyone else in the Continent]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:Relinquishes her championship in favor of Claudette... bad idea to say the least. This was also the reason Elina almost got executed in the 1st OVA and ''Rebellion''.]]
* NoDeadBodyPoops: Averted during her first encounter with Melona, while in the process of being strangled.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: In the third ''Vanquished Queens'' OVA, she gets captured by [[spoiler:Werebella, aka "The Swamp Witch"]], who subjects her to repeated acts of sexual humiliations and multiple beatings by Liliana's crewmen. This is even worse in the non-canonical alternate ending, which [[spoiler:heavily implied Leina was raped by the Swamp Witch, her maids and possibly by Captain Liliana's henchmen; leaving her mentally broken]].
* PaperThinDisguise: [[spoiler:With the only exceptions being the new characters in ''Rebellion'', almost everybody knows that Maria is really Leina with a mask.]]
* PhenotypeStereotype: She's a walking stereotype of a typical, anime-style, Western woman: Blue-eyed, blonde, bustier, and not to mention [[Creator/AyakoKawasumi being voiced by a VA]] [[PigeonHoledVoiceActor well-known for voicing all the above.]]
* PunchClockHero: Played a bit: She's undeniably heroic and will do anything in her power to help the weak, but [[spoiler:unlike Annelotte in ''Rebellion'', she doesn't seem interested on defeating The Swamp Witch just because she's evil or being the responsable for many of the tragedies that befalls on her, her family and her friends in the past. She's fighting against her because the Witch and her minions are hurting her family and friends and she doesn't seem to hold a grudge against her, other than stoping her from doing more harm. Oddly enough, the Witch herself doesn't see Leina as a person as a potential threat, but the rest of the heroic cast as her enemies, and that's the reason why she cursed them in first place. On the other hand, in the ''Sword of The Unicorn'' novels, The Swamp Witch does sees Leina as a threat and that's the reason why she resurrected her mother]].
* PrecisionFStrike: Leina ''never ever'' curses, no matter how dire is the situation for her, but when she decides to return you the insult, '''run'''. [[spoiler:When a pirate decided to press her BerserkButton by calling her a ''loser bitch'' in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], things didn't end well for him]].
* RapeAsDrama: [[spoiler:Implied to be the case while she is under [[BigBad Werbellia's]] captivity]], but only in the non-canonical ending of the OVA.
* RebelliousPrincess: From Claudette's perspective, Leina has chosen to forsake her duty to the House of Vance, by choosing to galavant across the continent, rather than take the throne. Their father, Count Vance, is of the same opinion, but isn't as harsh as Claudette about it and simply wishes Leina to be returned home; preferably, unharmed. To that end, he orders his youngest daughter, Elina, to find her rebellious sister and capture her.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Risty's Red, being cheerful and idealist while her friend is cynical and boisterous.
* TheRunaway: Ran away from home to follow in her mother's footsteps and see the world with her own eyes.
* SeriesMascot: Serves as one for the ''Queen’s Blade'' franchise as a whole.
* ShedTheFamilyName: She never refers herself by her full name, since she doesn't want to be associated with nobility anymore, [[spoiler:not to mention in ''Rebellion'' she becomes a masked fugitive, so she doesn't want to be related with her sister Claudette, the new queen]].
* ShipperOnDeck: In the 28th chapter of ''Hide & Seek'', she reveals that she not only knows about Claudette's feelings for Elina, she says she shouldn't hide it from her and even supports the idea of them being together.
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses moves based on [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro's "Hokuto Hyaku Retsu Ken" (Wild Attack)]][[note]]Albeit it also looks a bit like [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Jonathan Joestar's Sunlight Yellow Overdrive]] as well, since Jonathan aslo use that attack upwards.[[/note]] [[VideoGame/TalesOfPhantasia Cless's "Majin Ken" (Meteo Swing)]], and [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Saber's "Excalibur" (Dragon Tail)]] -- the latter also counts as an ActorAllusion, with Ayako Kawasumi having voiced both Leina and Saber.
** [[spoiler:In the 1st OVA, "Dragon Tail" looks like a cross between [[Manga/SaintSeiya Shiryu's Rozan Shoryu Ha]] and [[VideoGame/FatalFury Rock and Geese Howard's Raging Storm]].]]
** In the Japanese online game ''Arc Sign'', for some reason the Dragon Tail looks like [[Manga/SaintSeiya Seiya's Pegasus Ryusei Ken]] except using her sword rather than her fists. Also continuing with the ''Manga/SaintSeiya'' shout outs, the armor she gets in one of the novelizations looks like a skimpy version of Seiya's Bronze Pegasus Cloth.
* {{Shoryuken}}: When using the Dragon Tail for first time against Echidna when training, her rendition of this move looks like this, unlike the ramming version she uses afterwards. It also overlaps with a VisualPun, since Shoryuken means ''Rising Dragon Fist'' in Japanese (昇竜拳) and replacing the kanji for "fist/ken" with its homophone form "sword/ken/tsurugi", it will sound like ''Rising Dragon Sword'' instead (昇竜剣)
** And in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, she pulls a similar one against [[spoiler:Nowa]] with her fists during the tournament.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Her battle title has been translated as ''The Wandering Warrior'', ''The Exiled Warrior'', ''The Exiled Virgin''...
* TookALevelInBadass:
** After some training with Echidna, she's able to become a formidable combatant.
** [[spoiler:In ''Rebellion'', she dropped her BreastPlate, wore a mask, and goes by her mother's name. Despite [[{{Sleepyhead}} sleeping sixteen hours a day thanks to the Swamp Witch's curse]], she still kicks everyone's ass.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:If Leina hadn't forfeited the title of queen to Claudette, maybe the events of ''Rebellion'' would never have happened]].
* WalkingTheEarth: [[spoiler:She chooses to keep traveling to learn more about the world after winning the tournament, relinquishing the title of queen to Claudette.]]
* WhiteSheep: Compared with her sisters and her father, with the obvious exception of her late mother, of course.

Oldest daughter of the Vance family and a favorite in the Queen's Blade Tournament. However, as an illegitimate daughter, she is barred from the throne, instead being assigned as Leina's bodyguard, even as she struggles to earn her father's approval.
----
* AdaptationalCurves: The bust size of her ''Unlimited'' design(98) has raised when compared to the old design(89).
* AdaptationDistillation: Perhaps to reduce the amount of plot points to explore, the anime ignores the fact that she is established [[BrotherSisterIncest to have feelings for Elina]], referencing them only in the highschool themed OVA episode.
* AdaptationDyeJob: The ''Unlimited'' reboot changed both her hair and her eyes to violet.
* AmazonianBeauty: The way she's usually portrayed, though it depends on the artist.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Subverted, as due to her background as a bastard daughter of the Vances, she has her own plans for ruling the land. [[spoiler:Unfortunately for her, the Swamp Witch took advantage of this, and turns her into a evil overlord against her will]].
* ArrogantKungFuGirl: She is one of the strongest warriors in the continent and knows it. She is able to keep her cool through most of her fights because she doesn’t believe she will lose.
* {{BFS}}: Thunderclap is a cross between a claymore and a Zweihander, which she often wields with one hand.
* BastardAngst: Despite being the strongest and most responsible of her sisters, she's ashamed and angered over her father's constant rejections of her and her inability to be his successor due to her ignoble birth. She pushes herself to act as a babysitter for Leina and Elina just to ensure she's not blamed for them screwing up.
* BastardBastard: [[spoiler:As of ''Rebellion''. Subverted when it turns out her change of character was the result of the manipulations of the Swamp Witch. At the end of the story she goes back to being a HeroicBastard.]]
* {{Bifauxnen}}: In flashbacks, during her early teen years, she wore men's clothing and kept her hair short.
* BerserkButton: ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga only: ''Never, ever'' suggests to her replacing Leina with her in the succesion of their father's position as a count.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: In the books, she is said to be fond of cute things (like Nowa, Ymir, and even Elina). This side of her is completely unexplored in the anime adaptation.
* CallingYourAttacks: She's the only Western character who yells her attacks in Japanese for some reason.
* CantHoldHerLiquor: According to ''Unlimited'', Claudette can't handle alcohol. She uses this as a convenient excuse to let Elina run away under her watch.
* ChainmailBikini: What her armor amounts to, if it can even be called that. Averted in ''Unlimited'', where she wears more armor, though it is still extremely revealing.
* CharacterDevelopment: In the anime, she gets a character arc about learning to be true to her feelings instead of blindly following orders, and to start fighting for her love for her family instead of using obedience to the social hierarchy as a justification for all her actions.
* CharacterFocus: In most adaptations, Claudette is a MinorMajorCharacter, who only appears occasionally. While in ''"Hide & Seek"'', she becomes the {{deuteragonist}} and is featured prominently alongside her younger sister, Elina.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Manga/Gundam00Sidestories Gundam Astraea F]].
* CurbStompBattle: Practically, any battle involving her and any other opponent tends to end on her favor, [[spoiler:with the sole exceptions of Leina in the original gamebooks' continuity, in the first season of the anime, also with Leina (except the battle ended in a draw), in the tournament against a brainwashed Risty, and against Mirim in the ''Rebellion's'' Illustrated Stories.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Her ''Unlimited'' design has both violet hair and violet eyes.
* DarkIsNotEvil: She is mostly dressed in black (in the original series, she changes to [[LightIsNotGood white]] in ''Rebellion'' and golden in ''Unlimited'') and has noble ideals.
* DeathGlare: In the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga she gives a [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Raoh-style]] DeathGlare when her BerserkButton is pushed.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Turns out in ''Rebellion'' that she was being controlled by the Swamp Witch.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Seeing how submissive she usually is to her father, it may be a surprise to discover that Claudette can be just as stubborn as her younger sisters when she makes up her mind.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: The ''"Hide & Seek"'' continuity features a romantic subplot between Claudette and her youngest sister, Elina, which explores their hidden feelings for each other. She also takes on a far more active role in the QB tournament.
* EasilyForgiven: [[spoiler:Even after asking [[MercyKill Annelotte to kill her]] as an atonement for all the evil things she did as a queen in the Illustrated Stories, Annelotte refuses to get rid of her, partly because she believes Claudette can reform herself, partly because she doesn't want to mess [[StatusQuoIsGod with both the established status quo and Leina]] and finally because it was the Swamp Witch who cursed her in first place.]]
* EvilRedhead: [[spoiler:As of ''Rebellion'', but only due to DemonicPossession by the Swamp Witch.]]
* TheFettered: Strongly believes that one must abide by the law to display their sense of responsibility and honor. She follows this principle as best as she can and her main conflict in the series comes from her struggle to balance her sense of duty towards her father with her own sense of justice, particularly when it comes to dealing with Leina.
* GreenEyedMonster: Toward her younger sister Leina.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: [[spoiler:In ''Rebellion'', due to possession by the Swamp Witch.]]
* GoldMakesEverythingShiny: In the ''Unlimited'' reboot, she wears an armor that is almost entirely golden.
* HeroicBastard: Her father treated her horribly solely because she is illegitimate, but she still ended up as a kind older sister and a respected warrior.
* IneffectualLoner: She is taciturn and very harsh to other and to herself, but nonetheless she is loved by her younger sisters and obtains the respect of many warriors in the tournament.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler:She invokes this in chapter 26 of "Hide & Seek", while caring for Elina during her bout of depression. Despite her own feelings towards her (and her jealousy toward Leina), she vows to defeat Leina and bring her back home for Elina's sake.]]
* LadyOfWar: Despite her [[AmazonianBeauty tomboyish looks]] and being Count Vance's bastard daughter, Claudette exudes such nobility and authority that you'd swear she was an actual blue blood. This is also reflected in the way she fights. She's less like a swordsman and more like a goddess of war... including being able to summon lightning from the heavens!
* LightIsNotGood: [[spoiler:In ''Rebellion'' she is dressed in a white and gold outfit and rules with an iron fist. By the end of the story she becomes an example of LightIsGood, after she is freed from MoreThanMindControl]].
* LustObject: In the ''"Hide & Seek"'' continuity, Elina also secretly lusts for her eldest sister, Claudette. Chapter 20, shows her [[PervertedDrooling drooling]] while [[ImagineSpot fantasizing about]] cuddling in bed with her.
* MaybeEverAfter: The ''"Hide & Seek"'' manga concludes [[spoiler:shortly after her coronation as Queen and shows her taking Elina's hand, as [[ContinuityNod the new leader of the Assassin's Fang]]. Though it's framed as if Elina is giving Claudette her hand in marriage]].
* MeaningfulName: It's very possible she's named after the Roman Emperor [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudius Claudius]][[note]]who was born in Gaul, aka the modern France, hence Claudette's name, possibly.[[/note]] since both Claudette and Claudius were [[TheUnfavorite the Unfavorites]] (Claudette for being a bastard daughter and Claudius for being apparently sick) and both [[spoiler:becoming the rulers of their countries by sheer luck.]]
* MissingMom: Her biological mother died young, and her stepmother's death also affected her, but not in the same degree as her stepsisters. Maybe it had something to do with the fact she never addressed Maria as a mother, but with a honorific title instead.
* MoreThanMindControl: [[spoiler:The Swamp Witch cursed her with the Amplification Curse, [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity which makes her stronger, but also amplifies the deeper grudges she has against her family and the society she lives in]], turning her into a war-mongering queen hellbent on conquering the whole Continent and possibly the world]].
* NamedWeapons: Her Zweihander, Thunderclap.
* TheOjou: This technically applies to all three sisters, but Claudette is the only one who looks and acts in this capacity.
* OlderThanTheyLook: An odd case in the anime adaptation: Claudette looks older when she's using her ChainmailBikini, but when using casual clothing, she barely looks older than her sisters.
* PurpleIsPowerful: The ''Unlimited'' reboot gave her violet eyes, and she has long been established as one of the strongest characters in the series.
* RedBaron: She's renowned as "The Lightning General" (in the anime, she's referred to as "The Lightning Baron" instead). In Rebellion, her title changes to [[spoiler:"The Lightning Queen"]].
* RedHeadedStepchild: Bastard child, technically, but her red hair acts both as a symbol that she wasn't born to the same mother as her blonde half-sisters and her father's disapproval of her.
* TheResenter: It angers her that her half-sister, Leina, has apparenty chosen to abandon her duty to the House of Vance by succeeding the throne, in favor of wandering the Continent. More than that, she resents the fact that [[spoiler:her younger half-sister, Elina, is in love with Leina, because Claudette is in love with Elina.]] Regardless, Claudette doesn't hate Leina and still cares greatly for her younger sister.
* RoyalBastard: She's the eldest of Count Vance's daughters and the half-sister to both Leina and Elina since [[spoiler:she was born from one of her father's concubines.]] As such, she's ineligible for succession to the throne, which makes Leina the rightful heir. While it's true that Claudette feels some resentment towards Leina over it, [[BrotherSisterIncest that isn't the only reason.]]
* RoyalWe: Starts using this in ''Rebellion'' [[spoiler:after becoming queen.]]
* ShockAndAwe: She has the ability to summon actual lightning strikes, using her sword which she's aptly named "Thunderclap". It's the reason she's known throughout the continent as [[LadyOfWar "The]] [[RedBaron Lightning General".]]
* {{Shorttank}}: While still quite obviously feminine, she is very much an adult tomboy.
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'' she uses moves based on [[Anime/GreatMazinger Tetsuya's "Thunder Break" (Raimei Shinkan)]] and her version of Leina's "Meteo Swing" (itself based on [[VideoGame/TalesOfPhantasia Cless's "Majin Ken"]], but using electricity instead of ki attacks).
* SiblingIncest:
** She clearly has feelings for her younger half-sister, Elina, who she believes [[SingleTargetSexuality only has eyes for their other sister, Leina.]] In the ''Hide & Seek'' manga, she admits being jealous that Elina has entered the ''QB'' tournament to be with Leina, instead of her, but is unaware that [[spoiler:Elina wants her too.]] She's also shown lusting after Elina in the highschool themed OVA episode.
** In chapter 28, Leina reveals that she knows about Claudette's feelings for Elina and tells her she shouldn't hide it from herself, or Elina either. [[ShipperOnDeck She even supports the idea of them being together.]]
* StatuesqueStunner: Stands at 5' 8" and has quite a few fanservice traits down pat.
* TheStoic: To the point of bodering on being a PerpetualFrowner.
* ThrowTheDogABone: ''"Hide & Seek"'' is the only continuity to address Claudette's hidden feelings for her stepsister, Elina. It's also the only one that ends with [[MaybeEverAfter the implication]] of them being together. All other continuities largely glosses over it, or Claudette's feelings for Elina are unrequited, due to Elina [[SingleTargetSexuality only having eyes for Leina.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: Just like Elina, her loyalty towards her family and especially, towards her [[{{Jerkass}} father]] is genuine, despite the fact she has the power and ''very valid reasons'' for betraying him, not to mention her own ideas about how to rule a country. [[spoiler:In a very ironic twist, she becomes a [[TheStarscream Starscream]] thanks to the ''heroine of the story'' (Leina), and also for outside causes unrelated to her, like the rebellion of the nobles against the Vances in the first [=OVA=] series and being cursed by the Swamp Witch in ''Rebellion'']].
* TheUnfavorite: Count Vance only tolerates Claudette, because she's his illegitimate daughter and regards her the same as he would any of his servants. The fact that their father treats her so callusly upsets both her half-sisters, and Claudette as well. Regardless, she endures it and carries out her duties as is expected of her.
* VocalDissonance: During the flashback sequences when she was a kid, its very evident that her voice actress cannot voice a little girl well. While Leina and Elina's [=VAs=] can voice their younger versions without problems, she sounds like a ''young boy'' rather than a little girl instead.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Of all the redesigns from ''Unlimited'', hers has the most drastic changes, to the point that she looks like an entirely different character.

->''"Nothing will stop me from bringing my sister Leina back."''

Youngest (and most loyal) daughter of Count Vance. She is a prominent Queen's Blade Tournament fighter who entered the fray in hopes of finding (and bringing back) Leina under their father's orders. She's also a walking pile of contradictions -- on one hand, she's a smiling princess, a noble guard, and a kind younger sister; on the other hand, a vicious fighter, a deadly assassin, and a cruel sadist.
----
* AccidentalPervert: In the first chapter of ''Unlimited'', she trips and accidentally grabs Michel's crotch through his towel while falling. It's even more embarrassing in the OVA adaptation, as she instead lands face first in his crotch, ''without a towel between them''.
* AdaptationalBadass: In the original anime saga and the adventure books, her fighting ability pales in comparison to both of her sisters and the more plot-relevant QB competitors. Yet, in ''"Hide & Seek"'', she was able to soundly defeat Tomoe[[note]]Tomoe is canonically one of the strongest fighters competing in the QB Tournament, in all continuities[[/note]] in a duel. During the tournament itself, Elina advances all the way to the semi-finals and nearly succeeds in defeating Leina, as well.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: She isn't as elitist in ''Unlimited'' as she was in the original series, and is far less prone to insult others unprovoked. This new version of her exhibits a strong belief in the concept of Noblesse Oblige that her incarnation in the original series lacked, which makes her act much kinder to others.
* AdaptationalSexuality: She is bisexual in the ''Unlimited'' reboot. She is just as obsessed with Leina as ever, and is also willing to make out with Airi to restore her life energy, but her interactions with Michel show that she is capable of liking boys. In the original story, there was nothing suggesting she was anything but lesbian for her sisters.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler:Elina confesses her love for Leina at the end of their duel in chapter 24]], when she realizes she may not get another chance to say it, since Leina would be leaving her again.
* AnimalMotifs: She wears grey weretiger's pelt, along with a tiara and clawed gauntlet. In the ''Hide & Seek'' manga, she's often referred to as "that tiger woman" or said to be like a cat.
* AscendedExtra: The ''Unlimited'' reboot made her the main character of the original saga.
* BigSisterAttraction: Elina's openly lesbian for both her older sisters, though her affections lie mainly with Leina. The anime only shows it in a few scenes, while official art and manga adaptations tend to [[HotterAndSexier go further with it]].
* BetaBaddie: A subversion: While most of her personality came with the fact that her mother died when she was a kid, unlike other cases, she doesn't hate Leina for being better than her and she's only worried about living a "normal" (by her standards) life with her sisters.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday:
** When she's confronted by Nyx, in the anime version, Elina honestly doesn't remember her and has no idea what she's talking about, since she was about 7-8 years old at the time Nyx was referring to. Once it finally came back to her, she actually found it funny that Nyx had gone to all that trouble to track her down [[SillyReasonForWar over something she did when they were kids.]]
** Elina doesn't remember her in the ''Hide & Seek'' adaptation either, and was genuinely confused about why Nyx seemed to have it in for her. Except this time, the final straw was [[spoiler:an incident involving stolen sausage]], which Elina and the others found hilarious.
* CantHoldHerLiquor: Her ability to handle liquor [[ZigZaggedTrope changes]] according to continuity:
** In the original anime saga and ''"Hide & Seek"'', she can [[OneOfTheBoys down large quantities]] of ale well before becoming drunk.
** That changes in ''Unlimited'', where the second chapter shows she's a lightweight like her older sister, Claudette.
* {{Catchphrase}}: ''Unlimited'' gives her one: "It's a ruler's duty".
* CatGirl: Although she appears human, Elina has fangs and slitted pupils like a cat's, in addition to possessing cat-like speed and agility. Also, as seen in chapter 4 of ''Hide & Seek'', cats are naturally drawn to her. All of this is noted by several characters, including Melona, Menace (who [[SayItWithHearts affectionately]] refers to Elina as, "Ms. Tiger"), and her sister, Claudette.
* CatSmile: Seen whenever she's fawning at Leina, or fantasizing about either of her sisters.
* ChainmailBikini: There's very little armor since all she wears is a tiger-themed tiara, a clawed gauntlet, and a metallic clasp in place of a bra. The rest of her attire is made of a grey tiger's pelt and a black pair of panties. Her ''Unlimited'' design changes things a bit, but keeps the spirit of this trope. Now she wears a blue breastplate and silver hip armor. On her arms she has lace sleeves, with her right arm unarmored, and lace thigh-highs with silver greaves.
* CharacterFocus: The ''Hide & Seek'' manga retells the plot of the original series by shifting the focus from Leina onto Elina, essentially making ''her'' the main character. In most other continuities, Leina is the protagonist while her sisters only make occasional appearances. Ironically, this unintentionally serves as {{Foreshadowing}} for Elina being [[AscendedExtra promoted to main character status in the reboot]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: Towards Leina in the anime, and towards Claudette in ''Hide & Seek''.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi strip, she's depicted as the [[Manga/Gundam00Sidestories Gundam Astrea.]]
* CuteLittleFangs: Continuing from her AnimalMotifs of being a CatGirl, Elina even has fangs; which are often seen in the manga adaptation.
* DespairEventHorizon: Crosses it in the ''Hide & Seek'' manga after [[spoiler:being defeated by Leina and losing her chance of bringing her back home.]] Afterwards, she goes back to her room in the castle and remains there for a long time, in an almost catatonic state.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Her eyes are literally like those of a cat, slit pupils and all.
* HeartbrokenBadass: [[spoiler:After Leina defeats her during the semi-finals of the QB tournament, she tells Elina that she doesn't intend to return home; causing her to fall into a state of depression and neglect her duties. She eventually recovers in time to witness the finals between her two older sisters]].
* HeroOfAnotherStory: She's the protagonist of ''"Hide & Seek"'', which focuses primarily on [[SternChase her pursuit of her older sister]], Leina. While also delving into [[BrotherSisterIncest her forbidden feelings]] for her ''and'' her hidden feelings for their elder sister, Claudette.
* HighOnCatnip: If [[AnimalMotifs her attire]] and the CatGirl entries didn't make it clear enough, she's even vulnerable to catnip powder. Which Nyx tried to weaponize against her, in chapter 9... [[HoistByHisOwnPetard except it backfired.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: When it doesn't concern either of her sisters.
* {{Jerkass}}: Except towards her beloved Leina, or [[spoiler:her secret crush,]] Claudette.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: On a normal day she is just a plain old {{Jerkass}}, but ''Unlimited'' and the ''Hide & Seek'' manga shows that she can perform good deeds to people that manage to get on her good side, and she isn’t incapable of feeling compassion.
* KarmaHoudini: Despite all that she has done like make Nyx's childhood a living hell and criticizing the bodyguards who died watching her back as "useless", nothing truly bad ever happens to Elina [[spoiler:[[KarmaHoudiniWarranty until the first OVA, where she is almost executed]]]]. And then comes ''Rebellion'', where [[spoiler:she's beaten within an inch of her life by Annolette's SuperPoweredEvilSide.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: To anyone except Leina and her family.
* MeanBoss: Basically what drove poor Nyx into insanity... from ''childhood''.
* MindControl: Her secret weapon, and she uses it [[spoiler:against Nyx]] in the TV series, and is also a Spirit Command in the videogames, but not in other adaptations.
* MissingMom: Just like Leina, Maria's death really struck her hard, and it's implied in the 1st OVA that her death really affected her mental health.
* NoSell: When she steals Funikura away from Nyx, it starts trying to abuse her the same way it does its normal host, but she simply cuts off one of its tentacles and deeply claws its face until it seals itself.
* MsFanservice: While this applies to the cast, in general, Elina and Leina are both notable for habitually sleeping in the nude. Whereas their elder half-sister, Claudette, wears a nightgown and lingerie to bed.
* MurderousThighs: Weaponized against one of the pedophiles who were trying to kidnap Ymir and Frollou.
* ObliviousToLove: In most continuities, she fails to notice Claudette's feelings for her because her devotion and lust lies solely with Leina. ''Hide & Seek'' is the only continuity that subverts [[SingleTargetSexuality the usual]] [[StatusQuoIsGod status quo]] by having Elina secretly lust after Claudette, and by having Leina reveal to Elina that Claudette reciprocates.
* PsychoLesbian: It's made very clear in the anime's first episode, where she goes off on a jealous rant about how she'll torture whatever poor man ends up [[ArrangedMarriage chosen to be Leina's spouse.]]
* RichBitch: Except towards either of her sisters, especially Leina.
* RoyalBrat: When she was a kid, and she ''still'' is.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Elina is openly lesbian for Leina and went so far as to publicly grope her at the start of the semi-final bout at the tournament, because she wanted the whole continent to know Leina belonged ''to her.'' She's also known for sleeping in the nude and isn't bothered by anyone walking in on her.
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses a move based on [[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Axl Low's "Hellraiser"]].
** In the second season of the TV series, while fighting against Nyx, [[spoiler:her MindControl skills resembles a lot like a non-deadlier version of [[Manga/SaintSeiya Phoenix Ikki's Hou'ou Genma Ken]]]].
** In the ''Queen's Blade Anthology'' gag manga, she fights against Risty using the same pose [[Manga/SaintSeiya Pegasus Seiya uses when using the Pegasus Ryusei Ken]] and [[CrossCounter get cross-countered by her]].
* SignificantAnagram: Her name is an anagram of "Leina".
* SiblingIncest:
** Elina is both in love ''with'' and lusts after her older sister, Leina. This was shown in a flashback, revealing she was overly affectionate toward her even when they were kids, and grew progressively infatuated with her during their teenage years. And near the end of the same episode, she's shown spooning with her in bed -with both of them in the nude- while nuzzling Leina's breasts.
** In the 9th episode of the anime, she finds Leina asleep in bed and decides to wake her up by climbing beneath the covers with her and fondling her boobs. And, in a later scene she rubs her face in Leina's crotch, though the view is obstucted by Leina's backside filling the screen as it sways side-to-side, 'til she finally tells Elina to knock it off.
** However, Leina isn't the only one she has eyes for. At least, not in ''Hide & Seek'', which shows Elina also has closeted feelngs for their elder half-sister, Claudette. She even [[ClingyJealousGirl became jealous]] both times it seemed that Ymir was getting too close to her.
*** In chapter 28, Elina notes that Claudette is cute "when she's frail", now that she's been made aware that Claudette's in love with her... [[ShipperOnDeck thanks to Leina.]] Likewise, Claudette finally notices that Elina has eyes for her after all.
* SinsOfOurFathers: [[spoiler:She almost pays the price for what her ancestors did in the past in the ''Beautiful Warriors'' [=OVAs=], until Leina and Echidna save her at the last second]].
* SpoiledBrat: Unlike Leina and Claudette, she is a JerkAss to everyone except her sisters due to their status and her feelings for them.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Especially in the video games and all adaptations of the original story, being a massive {{Jerkass}} who is nonetheless on the same side as the heroes due to being Leina's sister. [[spoiler:Becomes a full-on villain in ''Rebellion'']].
* TomboyPrincess: She's been called unladylike on more than one occasion, due to [[OneOfTheBoys her raucous behavior and candour.]] Plus, she's very athletic and is the only one of the Vance sisters who has skill in hand-to-hand as well as weapons training.
* {{Tsundere}}: As in, jerkass toward anyone except either of her sisters because they're her family and [[IncestSubtext "other" reasons.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: Despite her personality and her status, she's fanatically loyal towards her family without question. Even if she could pull [[TheStarscream a Starscream]] at anytime, she's seems to be happy with her status quo as the enforcer of the Vances in all the adaptations of her story, rather than being a leader like her father [[spoiler:or a queen like Claudette in ''Rebellion'']].
* WeaksauceWeakness: Giant snakes, enemy hordes, and even some of the strongest competitors at the ''QB'' tournament? No problem. A little pinch of catnip powder though, and she's out of it.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler:In the Illustrated Stories, Elina was seriously injured when fighting against Annelotte in the Calibara Village while trying to get the Mobile Fortress for herself, leaving her fate as unknown, other than she survived. A Drama CD eventually revealed that she went back to the castle, and after a battle with Tanyang and Sainyang, decided to leave and go on a journey to find Leina. In the animated adaptation, she disappears from the plot after capturing Risty, and didn't participate in the final battle of the series]].
* WhatTheHellHero: A very understandable case, [[spoiler:when Elina calls Leina out for using her feelings against her, during the semi-finals, just to create an opening to attack her. Which costs Elina the match and her final opportunity to bring Leina home with her.]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Wolves absolutely terrify her, and she's presumably not very fond of dogs either; this may be why the English dub changes her references to Risty from the more controversial "monkey" to "dog".
* {{Yandere}}: [[spoiler:As of ''Rebellion'', she is throwing all the frustation created by being unable to see Leina into the enemies of the queen.]]

->''"Are you stupid? There's no way you monkeys can beat an elite angel like me!"''

An angel who, in her own words, is sent from Heaven to supervise and participate in the Queen's Blade Tournament in order to bring order to the world. Reality, however, begs to differ -- she's a mischief-maker expelled by the head archangel into joining the Tournament as a "trial", one made even more difficult by an additional stipulation -- she must ''never'' spill the "Holy Milk" in a bottle strapped on her hip.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: Her anime incarnation is a lot less vehemently racist than previous incarnations of her.
* AllTheOtherReindeer: Other angels don't like her mainly because of the fact that one of her wings is smaller than the other...and of course her attitude.
* BadassAdorable: She may not have the nicest attitude, but she is cute-looking and it is possible to feel pity for her with her FreudianExcuse.
* BroughtDownToNormal: The more Holy Milk she spills, the less power she gets to use.
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:Unexpectedly, she returns in the ''Vanquished Queens'' 2nd [=OVA=] and in the most glorious way possible]].
* CanonImmigrant: In a retroactive way, [[spoiler:her new look from the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVA=] is now included in the gamebook continuity, as she was excluded at first from it]].
* ChainmailBikini: [[spoiler:Her Archangel Armor in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVA=].]]
* CharacterExaggeration: ''Inverted'': She's sluttier in the gamebook continuity and also in the ''Hide & Seek'' manga, since she wants to score with whatever male she's able to find in the way, including even ''Rana and Florelle''. On the other hand, her harem-seeking tendences were toned down in the anime and while she still hates human females, it's not as exaggerated like in the gamebooks and she's more of a plain {{Jerkass}} instead.
* ChewToy: Nothing goes right for her.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Nu Gundam]]. Appropriate, given that the Nu Gundam's [[AttackDrone fin funnels]] make it look like it has a large left wing, but no right wing.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: For the first six episodes, Nanael comes off as simply an annoying little pest. Then comes episode seven, and holy crap; she ''solos'' the Swamp Witch Trio, effortlessly! It's three against one and she still takes them down without even a scratch. It's not hyperbole that she could probably solo the Queen's Blade tournament if she wasn't so worried on avoiding being sent to Hades by spilling the Holy Milk.
* CurbStompBattle: Her original battle with the three Swamp Witches and it was glorious in the sense that they couldn't lay a hand on her, showing the difference in power.
* CuteBruiser: Cute and honestly kind of puny looking, but a deadly fighter capable of handing three of the tougher warriors their asses, almost effortlessly.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Which is actually a bad thing for her, as the more Holy Milk she drops the more power she loses.
* DemotedToExtra: She doesn't appear in ''Rebellion'' thanks to Creator/AyaHirano being temporarily [[RealLifeWritesThePlot banned from voice acting after imitating Nanael in real life.]] This is explained InUniverse as her getting KickedUpstairs [[spoiler:and becoming an archangel. This is later subverted in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], since she makes a return, and with a new look to boot]].
** Her role in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' and ''Hide and Seek'' mangas is reduced, too. In the first one, she's basically a glorified referee and in the second one, she only appears in two scenes with no plot relevance.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: [[spoiler:During the 5th OVA, when she became a FallenAngel, her wings and clothes turned black.]]
* FallenAngel: [[spoiler:During most of the 5th OVA.]]
* FantasticRacism: While how vitriolic she is about it varies depending on continuity (and language; anime-subbed Nanael occasionally refers to humans as "monkeys" while anime-dubbed Nanael doesn't), Nanael has a serious issue with humans and openly looks down on them. She especially loathes human women... though, ironically, she doesn't let this stop her from wanting to bang human ''men''.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her right wing is noticeably smaller than her left.
* FreudianExcuse: She developed such a bad personality because she was ostracized by the other angels because one of her wings is smaller than the other.
* GoodCostumeSwitch: [[spoiler:In the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], she gets a new outfit, who looks like an angelic version of both Leina and [[VideoGame/{{Valis}} Yuko Asou's]] outfits. Being Leina's friend, this is justified]].
* HandicappedBadass: Besides her not being able to fly as well as the other angels due to her stunted wing, she is given a huge handicap by the Head Angel to prevent her from soloing the competition. This takes the form of the Holy Milk.
* HaremSeeker: In the gamebooks, where she wants to gather as many men as possible to have sex with her.
* HeadsIWinTailsYouLose: She was pretty much in a lose-lose situation concerning getting information on the Swamp Witch. If she failed to get info, she would be banished to hell. When she did got the info, she was still severely punished given the archangel knew that Nanael wouldn't be able to do the mission given her without screwing up. And she really did, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold albeit she went back to fix her own mistakes]].
* HeavenlyBlue: Her hair, dress accents, polka-dot panties, and glow are all baby blue.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Yes, she's very un-angel-like and looks down on humans, but she does appreciate Leina's friendship even if she doesn't show it and even though she created the situation where Leina was targeted by the Swamp Witch Trio, she was willing to correct her mistake and defeat them in order to protect her.
* KickedUpstairs: Heavily implied: [[spoiler:According to her profile included in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVA=], her job as an archangel in ''Rebellion'' is ''Managing trainee angels'' (like Laila). Taking into account her personality and the previous events she was involved in the TV series and the gamebook continuity, it's very possible she was ascended as an archangel just to get rid of her in some harmless job]].
* KickTheMoralityPet: [[spoiler:Tries to do this with Hachiel in the 5th [=OVA=] episode, when Hachiel tries to stop her after she becomes a FallenAngel. Luckily, the battle ended in a draw.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: Holy crap (no pun intended)... in the course of a few minutes, she goes from a completely useless annoyance to a competent fighter in her own right.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Due to her impatience and ineptitude at finding legitimate Queen's Blade battles to oversee, she often tricks people into fighting in order to declare the fight as counting for the tournament.
* MarshmallowHell: At one point in the anime Nanael gets caught in Tomoe's bosom and finds that she has a tough time breathing.
* MeanBoss: For both Melpha and Laila. [[spoiler:To the extreme Laila prefers to stay in Earth with Eilin, rather than working for her anymore in the Illustrated Stories]].
* NoSell: Her being an angel makes her immune to Airi's lesser spirits.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: She's like a DistaffCounterpart of [[VideoGame/KidIcarus Pit]] in even skimpier clothing.
* PetTheDog: Despite her treatment of Melpha, she really does value her friendship with Melpha so much that [[spoiler:when Melpha did not respond to her becoming a fallen angel, Nanael ran off before Melpha could even react. Naturally, she was surprised that Melpha cared enough to the point she would serve her regardless if she fell or not.]]
* PhosphorEssence: She constantly emits a light-blue glow, though its brightness varies depending on her level of power.
* PluckyComicRelief: Her role in the series, not that she is willing to accept that.
* PowerLimiter: Nanael might as well be the strongest character in the series...if it weren't for the fact that the head archangel cut her power down by giving her the Holy Milk to carry and given her clumsiness, her power is brought down considerably.
* PsychicPowers: Implied given that all of her powers are based on telekinesis with her sword and she is seen moving bathroom supplies in heaven.
* RankUp: [[spoiler:According to Laila, Nanael got promoted to Archangel in ''Rebellion''.]]
* SecretTestOfCharacter: Nanael gets one in the [[spoiler:fifth OAV when she is given ATasteOfPower as a fallen angel.]]
* SevenIsNana: The “Nana” in her name keeps the NumericalThemeNaming of the angels in the series
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses moves based on [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Shinji and Asuka's "Unison Kick" (Falling Star Kick)]], [[Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam [=V2's=] "Wings of Light"]] and [[Anime/TurnAGundam Turn [=A's=] "Moonlight Butterfly"]] (Holy Dive), and [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Gilliam Jager's "Slash Ripper" (Celestial Saber)]].
** In the anime, "Falling Star Kick" looks a lot like a [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Giga Drill Breaker]]. [[spoiler:In the 5th OVA, both Nanael and Hachiel shoot [[MacrossMissileMassacre many missile-like beams on each other]].]]
** In one episode, [[Creator/AyaHirano she]] [[ActorAllusion refers to herself as]] [[Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya being melancholic]], and in the final episode of the second season, she imitates [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Ranka]] and [[Literature/ShakuganNoShana Shana]].
** [[spoiler:In her returning appearance in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], her new dress looks like the one used by Yuko Asou from ''VideoGame/{{Valis}}'']].
* SmallNameBigEgo: Nanael likes to brag and refers to herself as being of great importance, but she's actually pretty much a bumbling underling in Heaven. However, despite this, [[BewareTheSillyOnes she's very adept at kicking ass]].
* ThirdPersonPerson: She refers to herself this way in the [[OnTheNext Next Episode Previews]].
* TookALevelInJerkass: While she's normally condescending towards humans, especially human women, in the ''Spiral Chaos'' games she's acts outright ''racist'' towards everyone, even with males like Jean, who she loves to address as a [[SonOfAnApe monkey.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Leina in the anime series.

->'''Title:''' The Saint of the Gates (original series), The Radiant Priestess (''Unlimited'')

->''"I cannot bear the thought of evil creatures defiling this capital. They must be stopped!"''

A priestess from a church in Gainos, the continent's capital city. Known as a devout, holy woman to her followers, and despite her minimal fighting ability, she is capable of using white magic for healing and attacking enemies through provocative "Holy Poses". She is also greatly devoted to Nanael, whom she views as a great messenger from Heaven.
----
* AgeLift: Maybe. The Melpha from ''Unlimited'' looks younger than her original self, but since VagueAge is in effect in both series, it's hard to be sure. Although given that Melpha isn't referred to as the "Priestess of Gainos" anymore in ''Unlimited'', it's possible that she is a version of the character from when she was still a trainee.
* CombatStilettos: One could make an argument that going to a fight with high heels explains why she is such a {{Jobber}}, but seeing how many other characters also wear high heels and have a much better record, this really isn't an excuse.
* DemotedToExtra: Gets exactly one scene in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, where she takes the role of a medic with no mention of her also being one of the fighters in the tournament.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: One of the kindest characters in the series, and she has the golden hair to match.
* HiddenBuxom: At first it may seem that her ''Unlimited'' design has a smaller bust than her old one, but a look at her bio on the official site reveals that her bust size is the same. The first OVA confirms that her new clothes are just better at hiding her assets.
* {{Jobber}}: She's one of the weakest characters in the franchise. Justified, since she's a nun and she doesn't like violence and many of her attacks are useful against the undead or magical creatures, but not against humans and other beings.
* LecherousLicking: She receives this from the Marshland Giant in the Vanquished Queens artbook.
* NaughtyNuns: Lord knows she doesn't want to be this, but she lives in a [[{{Fanservice}} world]] that simply doesn't give her a choice.
* NaughtyTentacles: She is subjected to this in the Vanquished Queens artbook. It is heavily implied that the tentacle god intends to and will violate her
* NunTooHoly: A nun that wears spandex so tight it basically serves as a second skin and fights by making erotic poses.
* SensualSpandex: The bodysuit she wears under her dress may as well be a second skin. Despite being covered head-to-toe in two layers of clothing she still has cleavage. On the other hand, the ''Unlimited'' reboot ditches the spandex entirely and gives her some garters instead.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: The books' fandom will mostly call her Merfa.
* UndyingLoyalty: Develops this towards Nanael. Even though Nanael lied to her by falsely claiming to be an archangel, Melpha isn't bothered in the slightest. [[spoiler:In the fifth OVA at first she is surprised that Nanael fell but when confronting the angel later she declares that it doesn't matter because she would still dedicate her life to her.]]
* VaporWear: She doesn't wear anything below that tight bodysuit.

->''"To defend my homeland, I, The Warrior Priestess Tomoe, step forth!"''

A member of an ancient order of {{Miko}}s from the island-nation of Hinomoto who participates in the Queen's Blade tournament to save her homeland and its (very young) ruler, the Mikado, from its own corrupt Imperial Court. She's also the sole survivor of her order, most of which were massacred by a group of Kouma Ninjas employed by the Court.
----
* AdaptationalBackstoryChange: Her reason for fighting in the tournament is different in ''Unlimited''. Rather than wanting to save the ruler of Hinomoto, she wants to find a rare medicine to save someone from a serious illness.
* AdaptationalHeroism: She's a somewhat a {{Jerkass}} who gets easily offended by the dressing standards from the Western girls and seems to get into fights against anyone who offends her morals. This was toned down in the anime, turning her more stoic instead and the only time she gets seriously offended by the culture of someone else in the anime is during [[spoiler:the tournament against Melpha, whose Holy Poses drives Tomoe ''really mad'', leading to her wiping the floor with the priestess]].
* BadassAdorable: Picture of the sweet and polite GirlNextDoor outside battles.
* BerserkButton: Only in the gamebooks and in some manga adaptations: Vulgar and scantly-dressed people can drive her mad, [[spoiler:as Melpha finds out [[CurbStompBattle the hard way]]]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She may be a NiceGirl, but if you press her BerserkButton, do not expect mercy.
* BlindWeaponmaster: [[spoiler:In ''Rebellion'', she gets cursed and is blind. Still one of the strongest fighters in the series.]]
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[VideoGame/DynastyWarriorsGundam Musha Gundam]].
* DefeatByModesty: In ''Unlimited'', Elina defeats her by ripping her clothes to shreds, knowing that the prudish Tomoe would be unable to fight naked.
* FoeTossingCharge: She doesn't ram her opponents like Leina, [[spoiler:except when she was forced to kill Shizuka and when she tries to defeat Leina in the tournament]]. Curiously enough, unlike Leina in ''QB Spiral Chaos'', many of her attacks involves ramming her enemies ''hard'' with her katana.
* {{Fundoshi}}: Wears one under her hakama.
* FunnyForeigner: Especially in the gamebooks and many manga adaptation, less so in the anime.
* GainingTheWillToKill: [[spoiler:Shizuka feigns betraying her in the second season to force Tomoe to kill her, as she knew that Tomoe's kind nature meant she would never be able to win the Queen's Blade if she didn't move past her [[MartialPacifist Martial Pacifism]].]]
* HimeCut: Such a regal hairstyle definitely fits a traditional and modest {{Miko}}.
* LadyOfWar: She fits the description to a T. Even during dire situations and fierce battles, Tomoe never loses the air of dignity she carries with her.
* LastOfHerKind: The only {{Miko}} of her order to survive the massacre of the Kouma Ninjas.
* LustObject: While Echidna will flirt, seriously or not, with a lot of the named characters, many works in the franchise portray her as being particularly interested in Tomoe, being often shown harassing her in official media.
* MartialArtsHeadband: Which she briefly swapped for [[spoiler:Shizuka's horned headband.]]
* MeaningfulName: Named after [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomoe_Gozen Tomoe Gozen]], a female samurai famous for her bravery and strength during the Genpei War in the Heian period in Japan, who also become a miko after the battle of Awazu.
* {{Miko}}: A member of a particular order that, besides fulfilling the shrine maiden duties, also fights against threats to their country.
* NamedWeapons: Her katana is named Kuchinawa.
* NiceGirl: Tomoe is generally gentle, amiable and soft-spoken.
* PhenotypeStereotype: While Leina is the stereotype of a Western girl, Tomoe is the stereotype of a Japanese girl, except she also has ''blue eyes'' like Leina and is also a buxom.
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses moves based from [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Angelg's "Phantom Phoenix" (Tamatsuki)]], [[Anime/{{Daitarn 3}} "Daitarn Saber"]] (Senren Musha Giri) and both [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Impulse Gundam's ramming attacks]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Nu Gundam's fin funnels]] (Kachou Hougetsu).
* TokenWholesome: Played with. While initially, she is the most-covered girl, to the point that her initial characterization involved a lot of irritation at [[{{Stripperiffic}} how everyone else dressed]], the [[{{Fanservice}} nature of the show]] inevitably ensures that she is subject to lots of ClothingDamage.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the girly girl to Shizuka's tomboy, being an amiable and soft-spoken YamatoNadeshiko while her friend is a casual and easy-going BoisterousBruiser.
* WaterTorture: Is subject to this multiple times in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=].
* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler:The already mentioned battle against Melpha, where her personality became totally different from her reservated one and causes her to go bonkers against Melpha]].
* {{Wutai}}: Her homeland, Hinomoto, whose name is even an AlternateCharacterReading for Japan.
* YamatoNadeshiko: The HimeCut, the priestess uniform, the polite and sweet yet tough as nails personality, her homeland is {{Wutai}}; she nails every bull's eye.

A former member of the Kouma Ninjas who defected and befriended Tomoe, whom she accompanies on her quest to win the Queen's Blade Tournament.
----
* AdaptedOut: Is absent from ''Unlimited'', likely because she had no game book at the time of the reboot and thus wasn't counted as one of the main characters.
* BerserkButton: In the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, hurting Tomoe in any way can drive Shizuka really mad.
* BoisterousBruiser: Unlike her friend Tomoe, Shizuka isn’t concerned about being gracious while fighting or respectful to her opponents.
* BreakoutCharacter: She had no game book and was created mostly as an expansion of Tomoe's backstory, but became really popular with the fans, leading to her playing a prominent role in both the anime and the PSP games. Several years down the line, she would finally get a game book of her own.
* TheCameo: She makes a very brief appearance in the last chapter of the ''Rebellion'' manga, which is in the same continuity as the ''Hide & Seek'' manga.
* CasualtyInTheRing: [[spoiler:Averted, since Tomoe kills her outside the tournament, in a graveyard]].
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0083StardustMemory Gerbera Tetra]].
* DeathByAdaptation: [[spoiler:Shizuka dies in the anime despite surviving in the original gamebook continuity and in the ''Hide & Seek'' manga.]]
* DefectorFromDecadence: Abandoned her clan to become Tomoe's follower, inspired by her ideals.
* {{Expy}}: According to Hobby Japan, she's inspired in Kazagurumo no Yashichi (also a ninja) from the TV drama ''Mito Komon''.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: [[spoiler:Averted with Tomoe for obvious reasons, but played straight with the rest of the cast. 445* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Her death at Tomoe's hands. Tomoe was going to lose against Elina because she rarely fights to the death and just barely defeated her, and Shizuka already knew that the next opponent (later revealed to be Leina) was not going to be so kind. It's implied it was an elaborate GambitRoulette not only to help Tomoe defeat Leina, but also to defeat Delmore for good in the final episode of both the second season and the OVA series.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Unlike some of the other characters who seemingly died, she is fully human and thus DeathIsCheap doesn't apply to her.]]
* MartialArtsHeadband: She wears one with horns like all Kouma Ninjas.
* MeaningfulName: Shizuka is Japanese for calm/quiet/silent; Fitting for a Ninja.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her outfit has a plunging neckline that goes down to her navel. She exposes so much of her cleavage that Tomoe is seriously bothered by it, although she is willing to let it go because they are friends.
* NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay: [[spoiler:Shizuka helps both Leina in the end of the second season and Tomoe in the last episode of the [=OVAs=] against Delmore, even if she's dead, since it's the only way to help them defeat him for good.]]
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:Despite being a prominent character in the anime, she still got killed when the show needed to tell the audience things were about to get serious.]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She's the tomboy to Tomoe's girly girl, being a casual and easy-going BoisterousBruiser while her friend is an amiable and soft-spoken YamatoNadeshiko.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Tomoe, since she was the one who inspired her to leave the Kouma Ninjas and start a new, better life. It gets to the point [[spoiler:she is willing to actually die for her]].

!!The Swamp Witch Trio
[[folder:In General]]
* BreakoutCharacter: The three became so popular after the first season aired that the second season made them the central focus of the ED, and at least one of each has made an appearance in some form or another in every installment and spin-off.
* MouthOfSauron: Subverted: They only speak for the Witch for themselves and the audience/readers, but not for anyone else. Leina, Nanael, Hachiel, Laila, Melpha and Risty are the only characters aware of the existence of the Swamp Witch, and oddly enough [[spoiler:only Leina (retroactively), Risty and Nanael care about getting rid of her anyway in ''Rebellion'']].

One of the three servants of the Swamp Witch and her strongest minion. She is a shapeshifter with considerable skill in information-gathering as well as assassination. It is assumed that she was ordered to bring havoc into the Queen's Blade Tournament.
----
* AcidAttack: She can squirt acid from her breasts that [[HollywoodAcid instantly dissolves clothing and armor]].
* AttentionWhore: So much so that people not reacting to her is directly listed as one of her Berserk Buttons.
* AxCrazy: Pretty much Melona in a nutshell, as detailed under PsychopathicManchild. Whether it's killing people, trolling them with pranks or engaging in BDSM, she lives to cause suffering of all magnitudes.
* BerserkButton: Don't call her a monster, and don't ignore her.
* BreastExpansion:
** Leina, in their second encounter, manages to bear hug her as she was about to spray some explosive liquid from her breasts, she yells "It's backing up", just before her breasts briefly inflate to gargantuan proportions and she explodes. Leina was ok, and Melona eventually recovered.
** She does this voluntarily before the final battle as a bizarre form of IntimidationDemonstration.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam Throne Drei]], since its pilot, Nena Trinity, [[Creator/RieKugimiya shares the same voice actress with her.]]
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:She absorbed an ancient demon in ''Rebellion'', thus became able to use powers she didn't had before, like controlling the undead.]]
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Her pupils are shaped like plus signs.
* GodivaHair: Combined with PrehensileHair, meaning she's often groping herself.
* HandOrObjectUnderwear: Her hair ends in hands which cover her breasts. Remember, she is basically made of goo.
* HealingShiv: Her patented boob-acid is famous for dissolving armor and weapons easily, but as revealed in ''Rebellion Zero'', she can also shoot a healing liquid the same way. She uses it to heal Izumi's wounds.
* TheHeavy: In less degree, she's one of the driving forces in the whole Continent Saga (along with her master, the Swamp Witch and Aldra), as her attempts to get even with Leina after their first encounter shape a portion of the plot of the original series, not to mention [[spoiler:she's the one manipulating the events of ''Rebellion'' by impersonating Ymir just to keep Claudette on check and doing lots of attrocities for both the Witch and [[ForTheEvulz for her own amusement]]]].
* TheHedonist: She can be made to follow orders from the Swamp Witch, but her number one priority is always to have fun, and she can be often seen looking for ways to amuse herself even as she follows her orders.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Leina defeats Melona during their second encounter by plugging up her nipples, causing her breasts to swell up with her acidic fluid and explode.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She squeezes her breasts to shoot out acid milk... and more often then not, it's ''explosive'' acid milk. It gets worse, when you consider the fact that Slimes dissolve anything they touch... so she is essentially shooting herself.
* ItAmusedMe: Her main motivation whenever she decides to act on her own, outside of the orders of the Swamp Witch. Which is a problem for everybody else, as she is a {{Troll}} in a good mood and a PsychopathicWomanchild in a bad one.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: She can shapeshift, project CombatTentacles and squirt acidic and/or explosive slime from her breasts.
* MagicKiss: The ''Rebellion Zero'' manga shows that she can reinforce curses casted by The Swamp Witch with a kiss.
* MeaningfulName: "Melon" is another term for a breast. Also counts as a CastingGag if you take into account her [[Creator/RieKugimiya voice actress]] voiced a girl who loves '''[[Literature/ShakuganNoShana Melon-flavored bread]]'''.
* MysteriousPast: We don't know anything about her past, but it's heavily implied she's the oldest character from the series, maybe even older than Alleyne and Echidna.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her top opens wide before her breasts and doesn't swing closed until right before her navel. And those parts are all transparent.
* NeverGetsDrunk: Possibly as a side-effect of being a Slime, she can tolerate alcohol better than anyone, unlike Airi.
* NighInvulnerable: Because she's made of sentient goo, she can reform when she gets cut, stabbed or splattered.
* TheNudifier: The very nature of her acidic breast milk.
* PrehensileHair: She can actually form hands out of her hair.
* PsychopathicWomanchild: Is the most child-like and also the most violent and crazy of the Swamp Witch Trio.
* RedRightHand: No matter who she changes into, Melona retains her HellishPupils. This is mostly removed in ''Rebellion'', as by that point she has absorbed enough power from devouring a demon so as to be able to hide this flaw.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:She actually impersonated Ymir during the events of Rebellion all along, and was the real Iron Strategist.]]
* RoseHairedSweetie: Well, Rose-Haired certainly, but ''Sweetie''? [[SubvertedTrope Not so much]].
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses moves based from the [[Franchise/KamenRider "Rider Kick"]] and the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration "Gespenst Kick"]] (Dragon Kick).
* SlasherSmile: Frequently flashes those.
* SlimeGirl: She's a sentient slime creature that can assume any form, but which defaults to a busty, pink-haired girl with hand-tentacles covering her boobs and bunny-ears on her head.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Ignoring that she is a TechnicallyNakedShapeshifter, the outfit she choose for herself is notably skimpy.
* TechnicallyNakedShapeshifter: Just to drive the point home, there is a scene in the 4th OVA where Melona claims she will strip, only for her "clothes" to melt into her body.
* {{Troll}}: She lives to screw with others. This can range from harmless pranks to taking the appearance of one's loved person so she can get their hopes up only to crush them.
* VaporWear: Ignoring the fact that she's effectively topless (creating hands out of her hair to grope herself in lieu of a top), the ending of the second season makes it quite blatantly clear that she's not wearing underwear -- especially given that the entire back side of her clothing is translucent... With the exception of what amounts to a slightly color-shifted arrow pointing to her bottom. Oh, and said back side? It's so small it's literally not covering said entire bottom. She ''is'' covered from the front, however, because there are some things that not even ''Queen's Blade'' could get away with.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: As her body is made of slime she can freely reshape it to take any form she wants.

One of the three servants of the Swamp Witch, Menace is a former queen who perished with the fall of her kingdom an unknown number of millennia ago. Resurrected over a thousand years ago InUniverse to serve the Swamp Witch, Menace's true loyalty is to herself and the restoration of Amara, the dominion she once ruled.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Her hair is black with a very slight tinge of green in the main series, but in the HighSchoolAU specials it's noticeably dark green.
* AmbiguouslyBi: She's clearly attracted to women, but she's also seen having male servants who she keeps in scantily clad clothing, and her living scepter companion, Setora, is male.
* AdaptedOut: She appears in the Illustrated Stories of ''Rebellion'', but is absent from the Drama CD and anime adaptations, due to her [[Creator/YukoGoto voice actress]] [[RealLifeWritesThePlot being on a hiatus to recover from a disease]]. She would later make a [[TheCameo cameo]] in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=] (which are a prequel to the anime adaptation of ''Rebellion'') with a different voice actress.
* AntiVillain: In any adaptation, the only reason she's following the Swamp Witch is because she was the one who bring her BackFromTheDead, but she's interested far more in rebuilding Amara than following her and her minions. [[spoiler:In the ''Beautiful Warriors'' OVA, she finally left the trio for good and she rebuilds her kingdom, despite Melona and Airi's efforts to force her to return to the Swamp Witch's cause]].
* {{Backstory}}: She's the only member of the trio with a detailed backstory, especially in the gamebooks' continuity.
* BerserkButton: While Menace is normally the happiest of the Swamp Witch trio, the sole mention of [[TheMole Anarista]] can drive her into an ''homicidal rage''. This is made clear in her first appearance, when Melona impersonates Anarista, and Menace warns Melona that she will ''kill her'' if she does that ever again.
** While it's not as severe as the Anarista one, she's not very happy when people suggest she abandon Amara or dismiss the fall of her kingdom, as seen when she freaks out because of Shizuka's flat appraisal that Amara fell because its nobility was corrupt and its last leader (Menace herself) was too inept and blinded by her own hedonism to realise its decayed state.
* CharmPerson:
** Uses this on Leina in the anime, though she broke free by the end of the episode.
** Uses this on half a city in season 2.
* CombatStilettos: High heels may be fitting for royalty, but one can’t help but wonder how is she able to fight so well with those.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Neo Egypt's Pharaoh Gundam.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her official backstory is one of the most darkest and violent ones (along with Irma and Sigui) from the Continent Saga. Menace was the last queen of the kingdom of Amara, where she lived in luxury, ceaselessly indulging her carnal appetites with a bevvy of lesbian love slaves. One such lover, Anarista, was especially close to her and served her as an advisor and a mentor. Eventually, Anarista became so disgusted with Menace's hedonistic indifference to actually ruling that she betrayed both Menace and Amara, leading foreign armies to conquer Amara and destroy everything there. Anarista herself gave the order, upon Menace's capture, to throw the former queen into the slave quarters beneath the imperial palace. There, Menace was viciously beaten and pack-raped until she died of her injuries and exhaustion.
* DemotedToExtra: Unlike Melona and Airi she never got a major role in the plot of the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, though she did get a side chapter about her meeting Elina.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: She doesn't really have any interest in furthering the Swamp Witch's plans, instead focusing all her efforts on rebuilding the Amara Kingdom.
* HappinessInSlavery: [[spoiler:Averted with her in the 4th OVA, but played straight with her masochistic servants. This is even lampshaded by Melona in the end of the episode.]]
* TheHedonist: To the core, and the main cause why Amara goes right to the crapper. She spent almost all of her time making love to her female concubines and ignored the duties of running Amara, thus fostering resentment and decay amongst her followers.
* MeanBoss: In her original life. Part of the reason Amara was so easily overthrown, and why her followers so readily defected and turned against her, was because she was a hedonistic tyrant who cared more about the pleasures of her lesbian harem than actually running her kingdom.
* MeaningfulName: Also considered as a PunnyName, her name is a sort of portmanteau between the English word "menace" and the name of the Egyptian pharaoh [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menes Menes]].
* NeverGetsDrunk: While not as good as Melona, she can drink more alcohol than a regular human.
* PhlebotinumRebel:
** Against the Swamp Witch, in the books' BackStory. In the anime, she remains as one of her henchwomen.
** [[spoiler:Played straight when she decides to rebuild Amara in the 4th OVA, despite Melona and Airi's efforts to force her to return.]]
* PsychoLesbian: Not exactly "psycho" so much as she is a self-centered hedonist, but she is an outright lesbian, and was such a bad ruler that her most trusted advisor decided it was better to overthrow and murder her, and she is a villain (if only technically) in the series.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Menace does not appear in the ''Rebellion'''s Drama [=CDs=] and anime,(despite appearing on-story in the Illustrated Stories), due to [[Creator/YukoGoto her voice actress]] being sick and recovering.
* ShoutOut: She uses some melee moves and poses based on [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Souther's "Nanto Hou'ou-ken" fighting style]], as well as his Egyptian motifs (although more pronounced on Menace). This may also count as CastingGag -- [[Creator/YukoGoto her voice actress]] is a fan of ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'', specifically of Souther.
** More obvious in the ''Spiral Chaos'' games when she use her own version of Souther's ''Houshou Jyujihou'' except she use Setra for landing.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Impressively so. While the entire cast counts, Menace's outfit is effectively a bikini bottom and shoulder coverings.
* SeductiveMummy: Menace is clearly supposed to evoke the idea of a mummy, having a distinctly Egyptian flair to her apparel and being (technically) undead, but is unquestionably a beautiful, sensual, and seductive woman first and foremost.
* TechnicallyLivingZombie: Despite having been revived from the dead, Menace looks and acts far more like a living person than anything you'd expect of an undead monster. Even her profile officially describes her as a "Resurrected Human", implying she may actually ''be'' considered alive and not undead at all.
* ThoseTwoGuys: She's always seen with her living scepter, Setora.
* {{Underboobs}}: As shown in the ending of the second season, her top doesn't actually cling to her, and is stiff metal -- her breasts bounce freely under it whenever she moves.

->''"Fear makes for the best seasoning. Now then, allow me to help myself to your essence."''

A wraith summoned by the Swamp Witch to kill her enemies in the Queen's Blade Tournament. Airi is totally devoted to her mistress, and can suck away the life energy of her enemies simply by touching them. It's later revealed (retroactively) that she's the Witch's Head Maid, at least in the gamebook continuity.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism:
** She was more evil and two-dimensional in the gamebook continuity, but the animated adaptations turns her into a NobleDemon instead.
** She pulls a HeelFaceTurn in ''Unlimited'' and becomes Elina's personal servant, the change in masters effectively making her part of the "good guys".
* AmbiguouslyLesbian: She is frequently stated to prefer draining the life essence of women, which she usually does through a KissOfDeath. On the other hand, the franchise has never explicitly drawn a connection between her "gourmet" preferences and her sexual orientation.
* BadassAdorable: A dangerous fighter who is also pretty cute, especially during the few times she shows her better side.
* BoobsAndButtPose: Although she isn't always corporeal, [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mcxkwyh2zQ1r34y4ho1_500.jpg this]] flying pose of hers is rather jarring in its use of this trope.
* ButtMonkey: In the first chapter of ''Unlimited'', the universe seemingly decides to screw Airi over as much as it can. First, her target runs to a city where a Beautiful Fighter with holy powers ''just happened'' to set a barrier that greatly reduces Airi's powers as a wraith. Then another Beautiful Fighter that ''just happened'' to have a weapon that can hurt Airi's spiritual body meets her target and decides to protect him. She loses a Queen's Blade match thanks to those horrible coincidences, and ends up as a pack horse for a self-centered aristocrat.
* CantHoldHerLiquor: [[NoBiochemicalBarriers Despitte being a Wraith]], she can get drunk very quickly, as seen in the ''Beautiful Warriors'' [=OVAs=].
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's obviously depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Deathscythe]]
* DemotedToExtra: While she is present in ''Rebellion'', she barely appears and doesn't get a new design. She only gets to do something significant on her own in the epilogue, [[spoiler:when she runs away with what's left of The Swamp Witch]]. The anime flat out [[AdaptedOut adapted her out]] until the Vanquished Queens {{OVA}}s. Albeit she does get some retroactive importance to the plot with the ''Rebellion Zero'' prequel manga.
* DisqualificationInducedVictory: In her fight with Cattleya, she wins after Cattleya loses the will to fight upon discovering Owen imprisoned in one of Aldra's crystals.
* EnemySummoner: She has the ability call forth lesser spirits to restrain her enemies.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Despite being one of the "bad guys", she's quite disgusted by Aldra's actions against Cattleya, and later against Rana. Against her better judgment, she ends up saving him, which causes huge problems for her later on.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Comparing with both Melona and Menace, and with other roles [[Creator/KanaeIto her VA has voiced before]] she has a very deep voice, except when she's yelling. This is averted in the English dub where her voice is noticeably higher than Menace's, likely to distinguish her from Michele Knotz's other character, Tomoe.
* EvilTastesGood: Apparently fear is a good sauce.
* GirlishPigtails: Her twintails reinforce the "cute maid" look she seems to be going for.
* HappinessInSlavery: In the web novel of ''Unlimited'', she comes to enjoy being Elina's maid despite having originally been forced to serve her. When given the choice to decide which master she wants to serve, she chooses to go back to Elina.
* HeelFaceTurn: At the beginning of ''Unlimited'' she appears as a servant of the Swamp Witch like in the original series, but after becoming Elina's servant due to losing a duel against her, she decides she likes this position better, making herself one of Elina's main companions and thus one of the good guys.
* KissOfDeath: Her preferred method of feeding on LifeEnergy. In the ''Unlimited'' reboot it is explained that the absorption is more effective when done in places closer to the center mass of the body. She can actually get LifeEnergy by kissing (or licking) any part of the human body, but kissing the lips will give her more energy than say, licking the hands or feet.
* LifeEnergy: As a wraith, she needs to feed on the life force or "essence" of living beings to sustain herself. Most commonly she takes it from people via mouth-to-mouth contact; though she can apparently feed through her scythe or just by holding her mouth close to her victim's, she prefers to "kiss" her prey while she feeds. The kissing probably isn't strictly necessary (later confirmed in ''Unlimited''), and the groping almost certainly isn't, [[FanService but knowing what kind of series this is...]]
* LoveRedeems: Her feelings for Rana, Cattleya's son, cause her to try and defy her demonic nature.
* {{Meido}}: Her sworn duty towards The Swamp Witch is her defining character trait.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: PlayedForDrama. Even though it pains her greatly to leave Rana, who allowed her for the first time ever to experience the warmth and love of a family, her sense of honor and duty will not permit her to abandon The Swamp Witch. Though she has since fought under the tyrant's banner and slain countless innocents [[spoiler:including Annolette's adoptive mother in the "Queen's Blade Rebellion" Prequel Manga]], her lingering memories and love of Rana nevertheless allows her to somehow hold onto a measure of her newly-gained humanity.
* MysteriousPast: We don't know much about her, other than she was summoned from Hell by the Swamp Witch, albeit it's recently revealed [[spoiler:she's not the only Wrath, as her master has two Wraith maids named Mime and Meena working for her two, and Airi is the Head Maid]].
* NobleDemon: Of the trio of the Swamp-Witches' henchwomen, she is the first to show some decency. She was bested in combat by Cattleya because of her refusal to strike down her son, Rana, and only won on a ''very'' cruel technicality set by the Empress. She later (albeit initially reluctant) takes Rana in and looks after him like a big sister. Unfortunately...
* OddNameOut: She's the only member of the trio with an human-sounding name, despie being a Wraith.
* OnlySaneEmployee: She's the only one of the three who is actually focused on doing the Swamp Witch's bidding, while Melona is easily distracted, and Menace has her own agenda.
* PunnyName: Her "[[RedBaron Battle Name]]" can be read as "{{Meido}} he Izanaumono" -- "Temptress from Hades". The pun is, of course, reinforced by her outfit...
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:Almost. She nearly starves to death in her fight against Nanael, having being unable to feed on people's souls due to her unwillingness to make Rana sad. The very nature of her dietary habits prevents her from being a good person, and it nearly killed her trying to be one. She only just manages to hang on inside her scythe, and is able to regenerate when she's thrown at an assassin.]]
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses moves based on the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Gundam Deathscythe]]. Her FinishingMove -- "Life Energy Absorption" -- looks a lot like the [[Anime/KotetsuJeeg "Jeeg Breaker"]].
** Also, in ''Queen's Blade Spiral Chaos'' during the route split between Leina and Tomoe in stage 25, if you choose Tomoe's route, Airi will help the cast to cross the Styx river in the underworld. Curiosly, she plays the same role as [[Franchise/TouhouProject some busty, scythe-wielding shinigami whose main job is helping dead souls to cross the Buddhist version of that river.]] Even Nanael [[LampshadeHanging lampshades that fact]] by calling her as the ''Shinigami Girl.''
* SinisterScythe: Wields one as her preferred weapon.
* SlaveCollar: In ''Unlimited'' Elina gives her one after winning a Queen's Blade match and forcing Airi to become her slave. It's magically enhanced so nobody but Elina can remove it.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Due to her [[OddNameOut Japanese name]], the fact she's dressed like a [[{{Meido}} French Maid]], and the fact her name is written in katakana like everyone else, until the TV series came out many translators spelled her name in many different ways.
* UndyingLoyalty: Despite being a fundamentally decent and honorable person herself, it is that same sense of honor and sworn-duty towards the Swamp Witch causes Airi to remain in servitude to the tyrant. The clash between her own personal sense of morality and her duty to her master is a constant inner conflict central to her character.
* VaporWear: A literal case. Her clothes are an extension of her Wraith abilities and fade out of existence whenever she turns intangible.
* WalkingWasteland: Part of her power set.
* YouTasteDelicious: Airi usually says this when she gets to "eat" the life force of her enemies, although she rarely gets to drain named characters. Amusingly, she anticipated that Nanael would "taste" really bad due to her having holy power, [[spoiler:which is proven true in an OVA when she attempts to drain Melpha, who also uses holy power, and gets a horrible stomachache.]]

----

!!Elves
[[folder:In General]]
* InformedFlaw: Especially regarding Nowa and Alleyne, and a very egregious one to boot: According to both girls, elves are discriminated by humans, but we don't see any act of discrimination on any of them in any adaptation. Not only don't they suffer any discrimination by humans, sometimes many humans (besides the main characters) want to hang around them, especially in the second [=OVA=] episode, when Nowa and Alleyne play beach volleyball with two human girls. The closest thing to this is when Nowa is about to be raped in the second season, but Echidna saves her in the last second. This is even more egregious, at least regarding Nowa, in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=] [[spoiler:when Nowa trains to become a Miko alongside Tomoe in Hinomoto]], albeit this could be handwaved as [[spoiler:the people of Hinomoto not having a cultural bias against the elves, unlike "anyone" in the West, in the same way how the UsefulNotes/WorldWarII-era Japanese didn't had a cultural bias against Jews]]. On the other hand, the elves are openly racist against humans.
* ScrewYouElves: [[spoiler: In the most brutal, albeit offscreen, way possible, since Nowa, Alleyne and Echidna are the [[GenocideSurvivor only living elves]] after their village was destroyed by the Swamp Witch between the original series and ''Rebellion'']].

A human/elf hybrid who, despite earning an important position in the elves' Forest Council, is distrusted by elves and humans alike, and the former in particular is more than happy to shoo her into the Queen's Blade Tournament. Her only friends are Alleyne, the only elf who had the courage to take her in, and her pet monkey Lou.
----
* BadassAdorable: As the youngest warrior fighting in the tournament, Nowa is skilled but also very cute.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Thanks to some herbs Dogura used on her, he manages to break her will and even give her a nice boost on her skill, being able to fight against Tomoe on equal footing in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=]]].
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:In the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], by being tortured almost to the point of insanity by Dogura. She gets better at the end]].
* CheerfulChild: Despite her youth and her background of bullying, she's still a very perky soul.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as a [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam GM Light Armor]] and Lou as a [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Grungust]] despite not being a mobile suit.
* TheCutie: She's among the first four fighters in the series, and the first to cater to "cute" tastes rather than "sexy" tastes most characters are associated with.
* FantasticRacism: Despite her high standing, poor Nowa is still ultimately a glorified scapegoat amongst her elven peers, hated and blamed for every mishap due to her half-human lineage.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: While the elves hate her and humans apparently cast her out, birds and animals all seem to adore her, and she adores them back.
* GenkiGirl: She's surprisingly cheerful and upbeat, considering the treatment she used to get back in the elf village.
* GirlishPigtails: Fitting, as she is the youngest and most endearingly childish in the cast.
* GoingCommando: It's apparently a common tradition among elves, or so Nanael tells Leina. Nowa and Echidna both certainly don't believe in wearing panties. Alleyne fashions leaves into undergarments.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Which is why she has such a lousy reputation amongst the elves.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Does not ''ever'' wear underwear, and often flashes others without meaning to. Though she'll occasionally lift up her loincloth when someone points out that she isn't wearing anything underneath and wonder why they're making such a fuss about it.
* {{Kawaiiko}}: She wears her hair in GirlishPigtails, and is both a GenkiGirl and a ThirdPersonPerson. She fits the description.
* MeaningfulName: Her name means "light" in Arabic.
* MoeCouplet: With her teacher/mother figure Alleyne.
* NiceGirl: Even when it comes to Echidna, who she genuinely respects and admires.
* NonHumanSidekick: Lou, her pet monkey that is always by her side.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: Well, a half-elf anyway.
* ParentalSubstitute: While Nowa never actually says it, she seems to look up to Alleyne this way and wants nothing more than to make her teacher proud of her.
* ShoutOut:
** In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses moves based on those of [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Kusuha Mizuha's RyuKoOh]]. Also counts as an ActorAllusion, with both Nowa and Kusuha sharing [[Creator/MikakoTakahashi the same voice actress]].
** During one of Drama [=CDs=], when she's training with Alleyne along with Nanael, she shouts:
---> ''Nowa, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam LET'S DO IT!]]''
** Her CombinationAttack with Alleyne resembles a lot like [[Anime/MartianSuccessorNadesico Akito Tenkawa and Gai Daigouji's Gekigan Flare]].
* ThirdPersonPerson: In the original gamebooks.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:Due to Dogura's brainwashing, she is able to fight against Tomoe on equal footing, Tomoe being one of the few characters able to fight against Leina on equal terms, while Nowa was a {{Jobber}} before. She later took ANOTHER level in Badass by becoming a Shrine Maiden at the end of the story]].
* TheUnfavorite: On account of her half-elf, half-human lineage.

One of the oldest members of a tribe of forest elves, at well over 1,000 years old. Curt, hard-headed and strict upon both herself and others, she has a habit of lecturing to others, even in casual conversations. Other elves call her "master", out of fear, respect or both. She also surprises her fellow elves by admitting a despised halfling, Nowa, under her tutelage.
----
* BadassAdorable: Moreso in the 2nd OVA, where she starts to show a kind, sweet and cheerful side.
* BerserkButton: Mess with Nowa. [[ShmuckBait I dare you.]]
* CaptainErsatz: Of [[Roleplay/RecordOfLodossWar Deedlit]], as her artist Matsuryuu did some Deedlit fanart.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the Nero Trainer from the novel ''Manga/GundamSentinel''.
* DoomedHometown: [[spoiler:The Elf Village she was living in was destroyed by the Swamp Witch's army between the original series and ''Rebellion'', and she was cursed without being able to leave the forest.]]
* DrillSergeantNasty: Part of her personality and exaggerated for laughs in the Drama [=CDs=].
* GenderBlenderName: Her name, or at least the Scottish spelling (Aleyn), is normally one reserved to ''males'' in Scotland.
* HandOrObjectUnderwear: Alleyne covers up herself beneath her (skimpy) outfit with a fig leaf. Even the forest elves have to have ''some'' modesty.
* KickChick: Besides her staff, she uses kicks in many of her attacks.
* MamaBear: Alleyne is even tempered and slow to anger, but if anyone tries to harm Nowa, in ''any'' way, they'll answer to her. As a group of bandits learned the hard way, when they kidnapped her and [[spoiler:tried to rape her.]] Alleyne mopped the floor with them.
* MoeCouplet: With Nowa, who actually manages to bring out her very well hidden cute side.
* ObsoleteMentor: [[spoiler:For someone who lived for centuries and considers herself as the best elven warrior who ever existed (along with Echidna), her teachings not only were worthless for Nowa (she ends up receiving better training from ''Tomoe'', despite being human), but also didn't help her to stop the slaughter against her race by the Swamp Witch and her allies]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's ''a thousand'' years old; she barely looks like in her late teens.
* ParentalSubstitute: It may not be what she was aiming for, but she ultimately became Nowa's surrogate mother in all but name.
* ShoutOut: In one of the Drama [=CDs=], when she's training both Nowa and Nanael, most of her personality in that drama seems to be taken out from [[Film/FullMetalJacket Sergeant Hartman]], minus the profanity and played for laughs
* SternTeacher: One of her defining character traits, is her habit of constantly evaluating the habits and responses of others and will either award, or deduct, "points" accordingly. She never explains the purpose of it though. Still, in most cases, it's treated seriously, though it's occasionally PlayedForLaughs.
-->'''Echidna: (blushing while sensing Tomoe's presence)''' "I think I've heard those footsteps. And is that the delicious smell of something I like...? What is this throbbing?"
-->'''Alleyne: (to Echidna)''' "Concentrate on the match! And wipe up [[PervertedDrooling that drool!]] It's disgusting! Echidna: 0 points!!"
* TheStoic: Has a serious, no-nonsense personality and rarely allows her emotions to appear in her face.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She's frank, and rarely says a word more than she has to, which initially gives the impression that [[TheStoic she's distant]], but she isn't without feelings. Her softer side is simply burried deep beneath her 'no nonsense' exterior. But if anyone can draw it out of her, it's Nowa.
* WhenSheSmiles: Only Nowa can make her break into a smile. D'aww...

An elf from the forests of the deep south (although from a different tribe than Nowa and Alleyne) and a former leader of the ''Assassins of the Fang'' with at least 500 years of experience. Despite being a strong contender for the Queen's Blade Tournament, she has no interest in winning, instead spending her days as a wandering mercenary.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: Irma's new backstory from ''Unlimited'' states she works for Echidna, so in this continuity she didn't abandon her pupil. Sure, raising the orphan girl to be her personal spy/lover is not very heroic, but it is still better than leaving her one day with no warning or explanation.
* AdaptationDyeJob: She originally had green hair with whitish bangs. ''Unlimited'' pretty much inverted this.
* AmbiguouslyBi: The ambiguity being on the heterosexual side. She is most certainly into women, but some of the few titles in the franchise with prominent male characters (like ''Sword of the Unicorn'' and the ''Unlimited'' web story) give her suggestive dialogue when interacting with those boys. However, it would be in-character for Echidna to tease people she isn't truly interested in.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Clearly meant to evoke the "Dark Elf" archetype, though this isn't an actual elf sub-species in the ''Queen's Blade'' universe (instead Echidna is said to be part of a tribe of " Wild Elves"). Her darker skin tone is likely natural, as she is said to come from "a forest of the deep south", albeit there isn't any other elf from that place to compare her to. One of the most notable changes between her ''Unlimited'' design and her old one is that her skin got even darker.
* AnimalMotifs: Snakes to such a point that she actually wears a live one as underwear.
* BrokenPedestal: Where Irma's concerned, thanks to Echidna abandoning her in the past.
* ButchLesbian: Significantly more masculine than Irma and confirmed to have had a sexual relationship with her.
* CombatStilettos: Presumably her centuries of fighting experience allow her to compensate for the obvious impracticability of wearing high heels in a fight.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as a [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam0083StardustMemory GM Quell]].
* DeviousDaggers: She wields a serpent-like wavy dagger with a red tip.
* FeatherBoaConstrictor: She wears her pet snake around her waist as a makeshift pair of panties.
* ForcefulKiss: Gives one to [[spoiler:Aldra]] in the Vanquished Queens [=OVAs=].
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: [[NiceGirl Nowa]] seem to be the only person to genuinely like Echidna. Some of the other fighters may respect her for her experience, but they greatly dislike her for being frivolous and unreliable.
* GoingCommando: She is ''not'' wearing anything under the snake. On more than one occasion, the snake moves to her shoulders - and while she's never shown from the waist down when she's facing the camera, more than one clear shot of her ass makes it clear she's giving ''everyone'' a show. While it's common for elves in this universe to not wear underwear, she seems to be the only one who does it for sexual reasons rather than cultural ones.
* HandOrObjectUnderwear: Her pet snake ''is'' her underwear.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: Make no mistake; there are many legitimate reasons to call Echidna a {{Jerkass}}. However, she often plays up her worst traits and presents herself as almost totally sociopathic, either as part of some sort of test or [[ItAmusedMe just to get under someone's skin]].
* ILoveTheDead: When fighting Leina in the tenth episode of season one, she says that having sex with a corpse might be sexy, though this could have just been her trying to get into Leina's head.
* InterspeciesRomance: Between an elf and a human girl.
* KillingIntent: When she taught Leina how to fight properly, her killing aura was so strong that even Tomoe's mystic blade could sense it.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: She was already over 500 years old during the time she and Irma were together, whereas Irma looked no older than 15-17. She even bemoans the fact that all her past relationships have ended in the deaths of her lovers due to her long lifespan.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:In the [=OVAs=], it's heavily implied Echidna joined forces with the nobles who wanted the Vances dead after Claudette became queen just to be able to rescue Elina from execution, and the whole facade was a contrived plan from both Leina and Echidna to rescue Elina and also defeat the rebellious nobles all at once]].
* MeaningfulName: Named after Medusa's mother from the Myth/GreekMythology, hence her snake motif.
* MsFanservice: While almost every character applies to this trope, Echinda definitely fits this trope in terms of personality.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her outfit seems to have been specifically designed to show as much of her cleavage and midriff as possible.
* ObsoleteMentor: [[spoiler:Nothing she taught Irma seems to have helped her, as she only wins a single fight in the entire series. In the anime, Irma ends up seriously hurt by the time it's over, while in the gamebooks, she becomes a fugitive and is nearly executed. Likewise, she swore an oath to Maria to protect her daughters, yet barely lifts a finger to help any of them, except Leina.]]
* OfficialCouple: With Irma in the ''Unlimited'' reboot, thanks to her AdaptationalHeroism giving them a much better relationship.
* PestController: She has such perfect control of her pet snake, Keltan, that she wears him around her crotch like a thong.
* PsychoForHire: Subverted. She's actually quite sane but has adopted this persona as part of her mercenary nature.
* PsychoLesbian: Likes to present herself as this, [[SubvertedTrope but that is just a façade]]. She is certainly a lesbian but by no means a psycho.
* SuperiorSpecies: Echidna is one of the strongest fighters in the tourney, hands down, due to her five centuries of combat experience.
* TeacherStudentRomance: With her pupil Irma. A flashback later confirmed that [[spoiler:they used to sleep with each other.]]
* YouTasteDelicious: In the third episode, Leina is tricked into oil wrestling Echidna (she thought it would be mud wrestling like earlier in the episode). Echinda licks some oil off her cheek, which might be the tamest thing she did to her in the match.

Defending champion from the past two editions of the Queen's Blade Tournament. As the child of the Pope and the daughter of the Lord of the Underworld, she is a cursed half-demon with the power to petrify with her gaze as well as "flesh-rending secret blades". While already around her twenties, she mysteriously has not grow an inch taller since she was twelve.
----
* AdaptationalVillainy: [[spoiler:Most continuities reveal at the end that Aldra's villainous actions are the result of her being possessed by Delmore, but the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga changes things so that Delmore merely empowered Aldra without possessing her, meaning she is evil on her own in that version of the story.]]
* AmbiguouslyBi: ''Vanquished Queens'' establishes that she would molest the Assassins of the Fang as punishment, but the action is framed as an act of dominance rather than purely sexual in nature. On the other hand, ''Rebellion'' removes any doubts that she is into men, [[spoiler:as she is married to one there]]. Her relationship with [[spoiler:Delmore]] is another mixed bag, thanks to different portrayals through multiple media. [[spoiler:The original combat books had pictures implying they were lovers, but in the anime their relationship has no romantic or sexual aspect. The ''Unlimited'' reboot would go back to stating Delmore is in love with Aldra, except "he" is now a "she".]]
* BerserkButton: Don't ever mention her half-demon lineage. It won't end well. Also, don't even try to insult [[spoiler:her husband unless you want sign your own death sentence, at least in ''Rebellion'']].
* {{BFS}}: A blood red blade, which loosely resembles a Zweihander and is almost equal in length to her body. Despite her light frame, she can wield it effortlessly, with one hand, or [[MindOverMatter control it psychically.]]
* BigBad: [[spoiler:Subverted. She's actually being manipulated by the fallen angel Delmore.]]
* BlueBlood: She's descended from demonic nobility.
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:Subverted. She would be the Cain to Annelotte's Abel, but by the time they get to meet each other in ''Rebellion'' Aldra isn’t a villain anymore.]]
* CleavageWindow: Accentuated with belt straps both between and around her breasts. ''Unlimited'' ditches this and instead gives her a {{Sideboob}}.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Reborns Gundam]].
* DefeatMeansFriendship: [[spoiler:In the OVA she's shown wearing a nun's habit, while travelling with Tomoe]].
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:She made a pact with the demon Delmore years ago, gaining immense power in order for her to find her lost sister]].
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The codpiece with a blatantly phallic design that she wears in her crotch. It is removed from her ''Unlimited'' design.
* EyepatchOfPower: Wears a metal eye patch on her right eye.
* FanservicePack: In Rebellion. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] since her growth was halted [[spoiler:when Delmore possessed her 8 years ago and his death reversed the effect]]. So she essentially aged eight years at once.
* FantasticRacism: She was previously subjected to this, due to her half-demon lineage.
* HairColorDissonance: In most pictures, her hair is silvery grey, while in others it appears light pink.
* HalfHumanHybrid: She is half-human, half-demon.
* HappilyMarried: In ''Rebellion'', except it's heavily implied that her [[spoiler:husband is the ''[[BreakingTheFourthWall player/viewer itself]]''.]]
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: There's a scene in the fourth ''Vanquished Queens'' OVA where she fondles [[spoiler:Irma]]'s breasts, then has her perform fellatio on her codpiece.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: See that codpiece she wears? It turns out that isn't just for show... she can actually fight with it.
* LadyInRed: She's decked out in blood red leather and silver armor, complete with [[TooManyBelts plenty of leather straps]], a codpiece, and spiked thigh-high [[CombatStilettos stiletto boots]] - giving her the look of a pint-sized dominatrix. Her new design in ''Unlimited'' downplays the dominatrix part, but she still looks like a miniaturized version of this trope.
* LadyOfWar: As befitting for the defending champion of the last two tournaments and she has [[SugarAndIcePersonality the demeanor]] to match. She can even command her blade [[MindOverMatter through sheer will!]]
* MagicalEye: Her right eye has the ability to seal enemies in yellow crystal if she wishes to [[HumanPopsicle keep them alive]] or turn them directly to stone if she chooses to kill them outright.
* MindControl: She can enslave others by using the light from her left gauntlet. Just as she did [[spoiler:[[BrainwashedAndCrazy to Risty]]]].
* NakedApron: Sort of. She does wear other clothes in ''Rebellion'' besides an apron, but none of them cover her torso.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her upper armor consists of a red leather halter top and belts that act as a corset to both support her breasts and jut them forward. Averted with her redesign in ''Unlimited'' as it covers her chest and midriff.
* NobleDemon: Both a literal examples, because of her half-demon lineage, and in regards to the trope.
* NoSell:
** She's immune to Melona's acid breast milk, maliciously licking it off her face when Melona tries spraying her with it.
** Funikura weakly attempts to grab her with one of its tentacles after Nyx has been defeated only for her to burn it to a stump.
* NotSoStoic: When she's being [[SmugSuper smug]], or when she's pissed.
* OlderThanSheLooks: Her aging process ground to a halt once [[spoiler:Delmore took possession of her.]] She's actually in her 20's, despite her prepubescent appearance.
* RageAgainstTheHeavens: Well, against Heavens and Hells, really.
* RapeAsDrama: In the fourth ''Vanquished Queens'' OVA, she's attacked by [[spoiler:two of her former assassins]] who force her into performing fellatio on the codpiece one of them is wearing, and giving her a drug that basically turns her entire body into an erogenous zone. [[spoiler:Irma]] stops them before they violate her with a wooden spoon. In the alternate ending she's very nearly [[spoiler:raped by her a demon she summoned (currently possessing a giant teddy bear)]]. Echidna cuts him down... [[spoiler:and then proceeds to rape Aldra herself.]]
* ReTool: From all the returning characters of the first series in ''Rebellion'', she's the one with the most drastic changes, both in character design, personality and even her [[Creator/AyanaTaketatsu voice.]]
* RoyalWe: As the queen, she refers to herself as "we". [[spoiler:It's also {{Foreshadowing}} for the fact that Delmore is possessing her.]]
* SheIsAllGrownUp: [[spoiler:As of ''Rebellion'', she has reverted to an appearance befitting her age.]]
* ShoutOut: In ''Queen's Gate Spiral Chaos'', her spear-launching attack resembles the scene when [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Rei Ayanami in her EVA-00 throws the Lance of Longinus against Armisael]] and also creates a ''cross-shaped explosion'' when the attack hits, and her funnel-like attack resembles [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 the Reborns Gundam's Fin Fangs.]]
* {{Sideboob}}: With the NakedApron of sorts she wears in ''Rebellion'', as well as the new outfit she gets in ''Unlimited''.
* SmugSuper: Don't let her typical stone-faced expression fool you. Aldra is well aware of the power she possesses and is anything but humble about it. Pick a fight with her, and you're bound to see her smirk.
* TheStoic: Her default expression and usual demeanor.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:Her new look in ''Rebellion'' implies she's '''always''' in this state, but unlike her younger sister Annelotte, she's able to control her evil side more effectively.]]
* TakenForGranite: Aldra imprisons the losers of the later matches (and those who oppose her directly, such as Cattleya) in yellow crystals, rather than turning them to stone, but the basic idea is the same.
* VoodooShark: At the end of the original series, she remained emotionally repressed and soft spoken[[note]]though her voice was somewhat deep for a girl's[[/note]] even after [[spoiler:Delmore was destroyed.]] It's never explained what caused her [[spoiler:look and personality to change so drastically]], only a year later, in ''Rebellion''. She had also left Gainos, after the tournament, and went to Hinomoto with Tomoe. Yet, in ''Rebellion'', she's returned to Gainos[[note]]in the Illustrated Stories, she returns to her hometown, Zelef, instead[[/note]] and the only explanation offered, is because she suffered [[LaserGuidedAmnesia some sort of amnesia.]] Albeit in the last ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVA=] this is explained as [[spoiler:since Delmore is now dead, almost all of her memories from when she was posessed by him are gone]].
* YouKilledMyMother: [[spoiler:In the anime and gamebook continuities, it was Aldra who slew Maria Vance, while trying to invade the Count's territory, years ago. 833
Current leader of the ''Assassins of the Fang'', the Queen's secret police. Irma adopts an emotionless attitude due to her early training alongside Echidna, not to mention her [[DoomedHometown village being destroyed and her entire family killed by Aldra]]. Her mission is to eliminate certain fighters from the Queen's Blade Tournament.
----
* CombatPragmatist: She only bothered to help Echidna during their match against Alleyne and Nowa in order to advance further in the competition. She also forced Alleyne, who was one of the tournament's strongest participants (and a favorite to win), to surrender without a fight with one simple move: by cornering Nowa and holding her sword to her throat.
* CombatStilettos: You’d think that high heels wouldn’t mix well with assassination and espionage, but apparently they do.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Gundam Mk.II (with the Titans' color scheme)]].
* CurbstompBattle: Irma ends up on the receiving end of one of the worst beatings in the entire series (barring Leina in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=]), [[spoiler:when Aldra sends [[BrainwashedAndCrazy Risty]] to kill her. While under Aldra's control, Risty was god-moded to such a degree that Irma had absolutely no chance against her and only survived the encounter thanks to Echidna's intervention. But the damage had already been done, due to the blow to her spine... [[UnwantedRescue and her pride]]. Albeit in the last episode of the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], she's back to action, after recovering from her wounds]].
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: In the fourth ''Vanquished Queens'' OVA, [[spoiler:Aldra removes Irma's breastplate so she can fondle her. Then has Irma get on her knees and perform fellatio on her codpiece]].
* EmotionlessGirl: She has been bitter ever since Echidna abandoned her, eventually closing herself off to everyone else around her.
* EveryoneHasStandards: She kills [[spoiler:two former members of the Assassins of the Fang for torturing Aldra in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], not only because she wants to kill Aldra by herself, but also because they went ''overboard'' with the torture on her, including making Aldra pay for all the [[BadBoss mistreatment they suffered under her orders]] [[PayEvilUntoEvil with the same coin]]]].
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:In the second season of the anime series, it's heavily implied Risty crippled her after she smashed Irma's spine with her mace. While in the gamebooks' continuity, she's captured and nearly executed, but Echidna saves her at the last moment. She also appears in the manga adaptation of ''Rebellion'', but not in the Rebellion's Illustrated Stories, much less in the anime for obvious reasons. She returns for real in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], confirming she wasn't crippled after all]].
* FragileSpeedster: She's fast, but not as durable as the rest of 'em.
* InterspeciesRomance: Between a human girl and an elf.
* KindheartedCatLover: Some of the official artwork shows she has a soft spot for cats, including one where she's shown feeding several of them in an alley.
* MaleGaze: The camera sure does like to focus on her hips and butt.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: At the time they were together, Irma was a teenager, while Echidna was more than 500 years old.
* MoeCouplet: Can do this by being in close proximity with Echidna, and they play this trope totally straight in a flashback.
* NinjaMaid: At least, her appearance and her fighting style creates that impression.
* OfficialCouple: With Echidna in the ''Unlimited'' reboot, in stark contrast with their relationship in the original.
* OldFlameFizzle: As far as she's concerned, Echidna tore her drawers with her the day she up and left her. When she finally turned up again, years later, Irma made it clear that she [[ShipSinking no longer wanted anything to do with her.]]
* {{Revenge}}: Wants to kill Aldra for killing her family, so she became part of her army just to being able to get close to her. [[spoiler:Even in the ''Vanquished Queens'' [=OVAs=], she's still decided to getting her revenge, ignoring the fact that the Aldra she finds is not the same Aldra who was under the control of Delmore]].
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she use some moves based from that of [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Quatre's Gundam Sandrock]] and [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Angelg's "Mirage Sword" (Bloody Rose)]].
* TeacherStudentRomance: Echidna was both Irma's mentor and her lover, which was confirmed via a flashback [[spoiler:which showed that they used to sleep together.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Irma was none too thrilled to have to pair up with Echidna for their match against Alleyne and Nowa. For the most part, she stood by and watched, until they were in danger of losing. Then she forced Alleyne to forfeit in one simple move: [[AttackItsWeakPoint by holding Nowa at swordpoint]].
* {{Tsundere}}: The ''Unlimited'' reboot changed her story with Echidna so that she was never abandoned, and they remained lovers. However, she still behaves cold and professional outwardly, because she doesn't like how open and public Echidna's displays of affection are.
* UnwantedRescue: Irma was barely conscious by the time Echidna arrived to save her [[spoiler:from Risty]]. But when she regained consciousness, hours later, and realized who she had to thank for saving her life, her stone faced silence and made it clear [[FateWorseThanDeath she'd rather have died.]]
* WomanScorned: Her present attitude in regard to Echidna. They had a [[TeacherStudentRomance loving relationship]], until the day Echidna walked out on her, without a word of explanation or so much as a 'goodbye'. When they meet each other again years later, and Echidna starts acting like they could pick up where they left off, Irma blew her off and made it clear ''that ship'' [[OldFlameFizzle had sailed]].

A manager of a weapon smithy and a former adventurer together with her husband Owen, with whom she had a son, Rana. She joins the Queen's Blade Tournament in order to find Owen, who has gone missing.
----
* ActionMom: One of the strongest competitors in the tournament, and the only one to be a mother.
* AmazonianBeauty: She's got a bit of a belly, large breasts, and a huge butt (that the camera highlights often) but she's also extremely muscular where it counts: her legs and arms.
* AuthorAppeal: Her dwarfing the other characters in terms of breast size is no surprise considering her character designer is well known in the anime industry for working on many anime series feature females with gigantic breasts.
* BadassAndChildDuo: Except unlike most examples it's her biological son.
* {{BFS}}: Her "Giant-Killer" is a massive sword that's at least six feet and couple inches thick.
* BreakoutCharacter: Cattleya became very prominent in licensed merchandise, demand for goods in her image are very requested and never stays in stock for too long before people clear them out; an unexpected case in Hobby Japan’s part since Cattleya was never made to steal the scene as the spotlight never focuses on her.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam League Militaire's Zoloat]].
* DependingOnTheArtist: She is the most inconsistently drawn character in the franchise. While most artists can agree on her huge bust size, how muscular and/or chubby she is varies greatly in the official works.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:She eventually gets her family back in the anime.]]
* GentleGiant: Rather tall and muscular, but also warm-hearted and reluctant to engage in violence.
* HarmfulToMinors: While the rules of the tournament make it clear that only 12-year and older ''females'' can participate, she brings Rana (who is younger than 12 and male) with her, since she uses him as a ''human shield''. Even Airi complains against her for using her own son in that fashion.
* MarshmallowHell: Because Rana clings on to her in fights when she gets hit hard and knocked down she occasionally topples him, usually breast first.
* {{Mukokuseki}}: Inverted. Despite being an individual of the series' equivalent to Middle Age Europeans (and also being possibly from the Vance County, as far we know about her in the TV series), she looks somewhat "Asian" compared to the rest of the "western" cast. [[note]]In a meta example, this also helps a lot to Japanese and East Asian cosplayers who want to cosplay her, since she doesn't look too out to place for a East Asian to cosplay her, compared with anyone else minus Tomoe, Shizuka and Izumi.[[/note]]
* MusclesAreMeaningful: She's the most muscular of the female cast, and by far the strongest.
* NakedApron: Her outfit is basically a purple apron-like dress, and she doesn't wear any underwear. ''Unlimited'' removes this and instead gives her a "bikini warrior" look.
* ReluctantWarrior: And she will try to [[spoiler:enforce that trope on Rana when he tries to get Airi back home]].
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she has moves based on [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion the EVA-02's attack against Zeruel (Javelin Attack)]] and from [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration the Daizengar.]].
* StayInTheKitchen: Inverted, she prefers to stay in the ''smithy''. Justified as she's now retired from fighting, and she wants to live a peaceful life. [[spoiler:And she will enforce this trope on her family, including Rana]].
* StoutStrength: Has the biggest bust among the cast and is also a bit chubby, but she is nonetheless the strongest woman in the Continent as far as physical strength goes.
* VagueAge: Averted, as she's one the few human characters with an established age. She's about 29-32, according with Hans.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** In the original gamebook continuity and Rebellion's Illustrated Stories. [[spoiler:According with Huit at the end of the events from ''Rebellion'', she and Rana went missing when they tried to find Owen in the Swamp while trying to defeat the Swamp Witch by themselves, so Huit and Vignt went to try to find them.]]
** In the animated canon [[spoiler:this is averted as she managed to find Owen. The [=OVA=] shows they are trying to live a nice life without the need of fighting anymore]].

Daughter of the Dwarf King and manager of his steel mills for the past fifty years. She entered the Queen's Blade Tournament to prove the superiority of dwarven weapons.
----
* BadassAdorable: She has the appearance of a cute girl and the strength of a giant man. She is in fact strong enough to wield an axe larger than her own torso.
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler:It's heavily implied Ymir designed the Ultra-Vibrating Armor for Mirim after suspecting about Claudette's true intentions, since it's the only weapon that can defeat her, and also in the case something happens to her, when Melona imprisoned her and impersonated her.]]

* EvilCostumeSwitch: When she becomes Claudette's alchemist in ''Rebellion'', she ditches her pink dress and white underwear in favor of a complete black dominatrix-like dress. Subverted in that she's not 'evil' out of free choice but rather honor-bound to serve Claudette.
* FailedAttemptAtDrama: There is a RunningGag in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga where Ymir bites her tongue whenever she is boasting her skills or the quality of her weapons.
* HonorBeforeReason: Law dictates that a dwarf attains a debt of obedience towards anyone who can break their weapon. Claudette breaks Ymir's axe during the tournament. Cue Rebellion, where she is Claudette's loyal alchemist.
* InformedFlaw: According to Hobby Japan, Ymir is ''color-blind'' when she's working underground, but she never mention this problem anywhere.
* IronicName: She is named after a ''giant'' from Myth/NorseMythology.
* LittleMissBadass: Anyone who thought the smallest fighter in the tournament would be the weakest was dead wrong. The irony is that she is only a "little miss" by the standards of her race. From the point of view of the human characters she is a respected veteran due to being [[OlderThanSheLooks decades older than she looks]].
* LoopholeAbuse: [[spoiler:In ''QB Rebellion's'' Illustrated Stories, she manages to save Izumi from Captain Liliana and saves the rest of the cast from being walked in the plank when she uses [[OlderThanTheyLook her age]] as an excuse to let them board her ship, since Liliana promised her grandmother to be kind with the elders.]]
* MeaningfulName: Named after (and pretty much a DistaffCounterpart of) the ancestor of Frost Giants from Myth/NorseMythology.
* NoSell: Thanks to her being a Dwarf, being whipped by a would-be kidnapper in the ''Rebellion Zero'' manga does nothing to her.
* NotHerself: She [[TookALevelInJerkass took many levels in Jerkass]] in ''Rebellion'' and despite being the {{Jobber}} in the original series, she's able to fight on the same level as everyone else, even displaying some abilities she didn't have before, like controlling the undead. [[spoiler:It's latter revealed she's really Melona impersonating her.]]
* OjouRinglets: And according with [[AllThereInTheManual additional materials]], she takes great pride in grooming her hair, as a dwarven tradition between women.
* OlderAlterEgo: Well, [[OlderThanTheyLook kinda]]. In ''Rebellion'' she gains the ability to transform into an older looking version of herself. This is really useful against [[spoiler:Branwen during the final battle in the Swamp in the Illustrated Stories]].
* OlderThanSheLooks: She's about 70 years old, but by Dwarven standards, she's still a young adult.
* OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame: Played with. Her job and choice of weapon fit this trope to a T, but her appearance completely defies it.
* ShoutOut: In ''QB Spiral Chaos'', she uses a move based on [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam Gundam Spiegel's "Sturm und Drang" and God Gundam's "God Slash Typhoon" (Crazy Attack)]].
* SuddenSequelHeelSyndrome: Althrough it is later revealed that [[spoiler:she's actually Melona impersonating her, and the real Ymir is imprisoned somewhere.]]
* TokenMiniMoe: The most youthful in appearance among the cast. The key part of this sentence being [[OlderThanSheLooks "in appearance"]].
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Although she gets over the fear of snakes in ''Rebellion''.

A bandit with a heart of gold, who steals from the corrupt rich and works as a mercenary to amass money to help provide food and shelter for war orphans. Her presence in the Queen's Blade Tournament revolves around this desire of hers.
----
* AmazonianBeauty: As is the case with Claudette, it mainly depends on the artist.
* AnimalMotifs: She's associated with the monkey, which may explain her love for bananas.
* BarbarianHero: She neither looks or acts like a thief. Instead, she's more like a bandit - right down to her mannerism, which is to say: she's rowdy and hot-blooded. A stark contrast to how [[PhantomThief most would imagine a thief.]]
* BarelyThereSwimwear: She wears next to no clothing, which is saying a mouthful given how scantily the rest of the cast dresses. Her outfit is essentially a bunch of leather straps and a {{loincloth}}.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:During the time Aldra enslaved her, Risty was practically god-moded, gaining a massive increase in competency, power, and fighting ability. Too bad she also became a ruthless enforcer of Aldra's will.]]
* CarryABigStick: Make that a mace.
* ClothingDamage: Averted in her battle book.
* EasilyForgiven: You'd think Leina would be pissed with Risty for betraying her, by not just leaving her behind, but literally selling her out. Except Leina doesn't even bring it up. Instead, she was happy to see Risty again as if the whole thing never happened.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: One of the series' worst {{jobber}}s [[spoiler:became a near unstoppable force while under Queen Aldra's control.]]
* HeroicBuild: Risty has the most muscular physique of the entire cast, not that it helps her.
* ImplacableWoman: [[spoiler:Aldra's control also enabled Risty to shrug off virtually any attack without even flinching, essentially making her a juggernaut. She was even able to curbstomp Claudette; utterly destroying both her armor and Thunderclap in the process!]]
* InformedAbility: They say she's one of the toughest competitors in the tournament. It sure doesn't look that way, with all the times she gets beaten.
** Averted in ''Hide & Seek'', where she advanced all the way to the semi-finals. [[spoiler:Though she was effortlessly beaten by Claudette, which makes the outcome of their encounter from season 2 of the anime version all the more jarring.]]
* JustLikeRobinHood: She donates half of the take she loots from the [[BlueBlood Noble classes]] to the orphanage she grew up in, and splits the other half amongst her band of thieves... who also look like bandits.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She's has the most muscular build of the cast, except it doesn't amount to anything because of how many times she gets her ass kicked. Then again, when muscle is all you have to rely on against opponents with [[SupernaturalMartialArts martial arts skill]] [[MagicKnight and supernatural ability....]]
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her outfit has a neckline that plunges down to her midriff.
* RedIsHeroic: She has red hair, red clothes, and essentially is a GenderFlip of [[JustLikeRobinHood Robin Hood]].
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Leina's Blue, as she is a tough, angry, and jovial warrior, contrasting with the bright and friendly Leina.
* ShoutOut:
** In ''QG Spiral Chaos'' she uses a move based on both [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro's Hokuto Hyaku Retsu Ken]] and [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Folka Albark's Kouha Kishin Ken.]]
** In the ''Queen's Blade Anthology'' gag manga, she pull this again against Elina, except she uses the same pose Kenshiro does when using the ''Musou Tensei'' [[Manga/TomorrowsJoe and she does a]] CrossCounter against her.
--->'''Risty:''' ''WE'RE-IN-A-PUBLIC-BATH-SO-DON'T-CAUSE-TROUBLE-OR-SWIM-AROUND THOUSAND [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar CRACK FIST!]]''
* StatuesqueStunner: Stands at 5 feet 10 inches.
* {{Stripperific}}: She has worn three different outfits through the franchise (in the original series, ''Rebellion'' and ''Unlimited'') and all three of them are incredibly skimpy.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Leina in the ''Rurou no Senshi'' manga, replacing Nanael in that role.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: When Leina asked if she can tag along with her, Risty agreed - on the condition that Leina proved she could support herself. Leina accepted those terms and left to look for a job in town. The moment she was gone, Echidna approaches Risty and offers her 30 gold pieces to turn Leina over to her. Risty accepted the money and promptly ditched Leina[[note]]leaving her to be tortured and molested by Echidna[[/note]]. Yet, she [[KarmaHoudini didn't get called out on it later]].
* TheWorfEffect:
** Though [[InformedAbility she's said to be one of the strongest fighters in the series]], the only victory she's had, was against Leina in the first season and it wasn't a ''proper fight''. Other than that, she's usually defeated very quickly by many fighters. Subverted in the second season, [[spoiler:while she was brainwashed by Aldra. Her magic changed Risty into an ImplacableWoman.]]
** Even in ''Unlimited'' Risty can't escape her fate of hyping the other fighters by losing to them. She is first mentioned in the series when Echidna explains Leina attracted lots of attention by defeating Risty. Her first physical appearance in the series has her losing against Tomoe. Then we find out those two were the only ones to defeat Risty. Naturally, they seem to be the only ''named'' characters to have faced her in a duel.

->'''Title:''' Master of Flame

->''"Burn it all down to ashes. I wish you could burn away my past as well..."''

A peasant girl born into the service of Count Vance. When Nyx stumbled upon Funikura, a sentient staff, she was granted immeasurable magical powers. She entered the Queen's Blade Tournament to prove her worth against everyone who looked down on her, especially Elina.
----
* AxCrazy: According with Hans, how much depends of the adaptation.
* BerserkButton: Nyx really, ''really'', hates Elina. The mere mention of her name, or simply seeing her face, is enough to set her off.
* CatchPhrase: Expect to hear the following any time she sees Elina: '''"THAT BITCH!!"'''
* ClusterFBomb: Any time Funikura's has its way with her, her expression and personality darkens. She goes from meek to malicious and swears at [[Manga/BlackLagoon Revy]]-style levels.
* CombatStilettos: She's wears red pair of high-heeled pumps, making her the most straightforward example the trope in the series.
* CrossOver: In the ''Manga/MobileSuitBlade'' doujinshi and strip, she's depicted as the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Infinite Justice Gundam]], since [[Creator/RieTanaka her voice actress]] voiced both Nyx and Lacus Clyne, one of the protagonists of the series.
* CrossPoppingVeins: Any time she sees Elina.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: She remembered Elina was susceptible to catnip powder when she was a child, and prepared some for her fight with her, which was pretty smart thinking. Except Nyx didn't stop to consider that it might not work on her now that she was an adult and much, '''MUCH''' stronger. The powder still had an effect, it just wasn't the one Nyx was expecting.
* EldritchAbomination: Funikura is certainly a Lovecraftian horror of some variety, looks rather like [[Comicbook/DoctorStrange Shuma-Gorath]] on a stick, and enables Nyx to use a particularly squicky LovecraftianSuperPower variant.
* {{Expy}}: Her outfit is very similar to the one worn by [[Film/WhoFramedRogerRabbit Jessica Rabbit]], and this is somewhat confirmed by Hobby Japan, who has stated she was inspired by American comic books. While her living staff, Funikura, seems inspired by both [[Comicbook/DoctorStrange Shuma-Gorath]], design-wise and [[ComicBook/SpiderMan Venom, or more specifically, his symbiote.]]
* GoofyPrintUnderwear: An upskirt during her time as a waitress shows Nyx wearing heart print panties.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: Trying to use catnip powder to defeat Elina backfires spectacularly. Because Nyx DidntThinkThisThrough, she ended [[spoiler:getting raped by Elina]].
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: Nyx allows her staff, Funikura, to tentacle rape her in exchange for magical power. During which, it forces one of its tendrils in her mouth and makes her swallow several large mouthfuls of what appears to be semen. She's usually left mortified after the effect has worn off, but [[OrgasmicCombat definitely seems to enjoy it]] as it's happening.
* ItsPersonal: Her only motivation for entering the ''QB'' tournament is to pay [[KidsAreCruel Elina back for making her life miserable]], back when she was a child in service to the House of Vance. According to her, she and her family were overworked, yet underpaid by the Vances, but her hostility is directed solely at Elina. The reason for this varies by adaptation, ranging from legitimate resentment (anime), to blowing things [[SillyReasonForWar comically out of proportion]] (''Hide & Seek'').
* {{Jobber}}: She ties with Melpha for the position of fighter with the worst battle record in the series. Funikura could be a really dangerous opponent... if his master wasn't such a ''wimp''.
* MeaningfulName: Named after the Greek goddess of the night. Funikura, on the other hand, is named after the Italian folk song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaO1GrltxwM Funiculi, Funicula]], possibly a extended reference toward his origins as an Expy of [[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Eddie]][[note]]Who was named after Music/IronMaiden's mascot.[[/note]]
* MsFanservice: For fans of [[AllAnimeIsNaughtyTentacles tentacle porn.]] Made moreso, due to having bangs, a smokin' hot body, and a shoulderless gown that has a split-seam and [[SexyBacklessOutfit low-cut back.]]
* NotIfTheyEnjoyedItRationalization: She's very devoted to her staff [[StockholmSyndrome and considers it the best thing that's ever happened to her.]] So much so, that she believes she'd be nothing without it. As a result, she's willing to let Funikura use her sexually in exchange for magical power.
* OfCorsetsSexy: She wears one under her gown. Seen after Elina shreds her gown in ''"Hide & Seek"'' in the process of [[spoiler:raping her]].
* OrgasmicCombat: Her magic depends on it, though it's always Funikura who initiates it; usually as punishment [[ProneToTears for Nyx's weakness.]] And it isn't long before her cries for forgiveness turn to muffled sighs and moans.
* PlayingWithFire: This seems to be the only form of magic she knows how to use, though its effectiveness varies based on her level of focus and confidence.
* ProneToTears: She's so emotionally frail, that she's easily startled and just as easily unnerved by those she perceives as stronger than herself... which is basically everybody. This is especially the case whenever she's separated from Funikura, which she believes is her only source of strength.
* SexMagic: Nyx can only use minor fire spells on her own. So, to power up, she allows her sentient staff Funikura to bang her. During which, it forces one of its tendrils in her mouth and makes her swallow several large mouthfuls of what appears to be semen. This results in a near split-personality style transformation, as she changes [[ExtremeDoormat from doormat]] to [[TheDogBitesBack 'revenge mode'.]]
* SexyBacklessOutfit: The cut of her gown ensures you'll get to see plenty of her back and shoulders.
* ShoutOut:
** In ''QB Spiral Chaos'' she use a move based from that of the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Machinary Children]].
** She is the reflection of ''Mahou Shoujo Ai'', a H-series that Masahiro Kuroki worked on. From the tentacle rape to the very comparisons the titular character's sisters.
* StockingFiller: The curvature of her legs is accentuated by a pair of purple nylons that reach mid-thigh and are attached to a pair of garter belts.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: She disappears from the entire plot of ''Rebellion'' (the last time she's seen is during the ''Beautiful Warriors'' [=OVAs=]), and nobody talks about her again.
* WhosLaughingNow: All she wants is being able to say this to Elina. Sadly, she loses against her in most versions of the story. She does manage to win in the novels and at the end of ''Queen's Gate: Spiral Chaos''.
----
