! Marona
[[quoteright:189:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marona_little_9174.png]]
-> Voiced by: Creator/KaoriMizuhashi (JP), Creator/SandyFox (EN)

Primary main character. Marona is a young girl who lives on an island by herself in Ivoire. She is a Chroma, a character with strange magical powers (hers allow her to talk to spirits, and bring them to life by possessing inanimate objects). Because of this, she is feared (and very often discriminated against) [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer by everyone on the mainland]].
----
* AccompliceByInaction: Midway through the game, Marona is hired by the Elder of Desert Island to stop a rampaging Raphael, only for the culprit to be an impostor, upon which said Elder uses LoopholeAbuse to cheat her out of her rightful pay. The real Raphael, who showed up to help her stop the impostor, hears the entire exchange and promptly starts going on an actual rampage to teach him a lesson. Immediately, the Elder [[EntitledBastard proceeds]] to beg Marona for help in stopping said rampage, promising to pay her if she does; instead, Marona [[BewareTheNiceOnes refuses to help him]] and walks away, leaving Desert Island to Raphael's mercy.
* ACupAngst: [[spoiler:A more subtle example than most; she does get pissed off when Myao states that she's flat-chested. Cue OutOfCharacterMoment.]] She's also jealous of Carona having a bigger size than hers...but it's really not that much of a difference.
* AllLovingHero: Marona is unfailingly kind and compassionate to the people she meets; her kindness is not repaid.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Marona is an AllLovingHero who is unfailingly kind and compassionate to other people, but because of her powers, the entire world is terrified of her and ostracizes her as much as possible.
* ApologeticAttacker: as evident in Another Marona side-story, which really fits her NiceGirl and TechnicalPacifist personality.
-->'''Ash''' (after Sulphur's phantoms appear over the possessed humans): I've seen them before!
-->'''Marona''': Do you know them? [[ComicallyMissingThePoint I'm so sorry I hurt your friends]].
-->'''Ash''': [[DeadpanSnarker Marona, do they look like they're my friends?]]
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: When she hears that Sulphur [[spoiler:comes out from a gate and everyone is ready to fight him the moment he appears, she asks why not close the gate before he can come out. Everyone is speechless, and then she is quick to bring up the method to do so]].
* BadPowersGoodPeople: Everyone's terrified of and hates her because of her phantom powers, but Marona is one of the sweetest girls you'll ever meet.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: AllLovingHero or not, even Marona has her limits. When one client hires her to stop a rampaging Raphael (a fake) and then cheats her out of her rightful pay using LoopholeAbuse, the real Raphael, who helped her defeat the imposter and overheard the entire conversation, goes on a rampage. When the client has the gall to [[EntitledBastard beg her for help]] stopping said rampage, Marona flatly refuses to help him and walks away, leaving him to Raphael's mercy.
-->'''Marona''': I'm sorry, sir. I cannot accept. Have a nice day.
** She also has an OutOfCharacterMoment, [[spoiler:when meeting up with Myao]].
* BrokenBird: She did almost have signs of this, but her [[{{Pollyanna}} cheerful optimism still puts her together]].
%%* ChronicHeroSyndrome
* ColorfulThemeNaming: Her name in the Japanese version, ''Marrone'', is Italian for "Maroon". It also doubles as a MeaningfulName, as Maroon can refer to being left alone.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler:In "Another Marona".]]
* EasilyForgiven: InvertedTrope. She is one of the most forgiving characters, even after dealing with [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer everyone treating her as shit]].
* {{Expy}}: Of [[VideoGame/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness Flonne]] in some sense. NiceGirl and [[ThePollyanna cheerful optimistic personality]]? Checked. Cuteness appeal that put people into squeegasms? Checked. [[TheMedic Magic-based healing character]]? Checked. [[spoiler:{{Out Of Character Moment}}s when being called flat-chested? Checked.]] [[Creator/SandyFox Having the same English voice actor who is typecast into these kinds of characters]]? Checkmate.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In Another Marona, [[spoiler:almost all the maps have Marona start with protections from an item, and it's otherwise impossible for her to get protections in the main story maps since she can't never be confined in items. Now, in Another Marona, wouldn't that mean Marona herself has been...?]]
* HandBehindHead: When embarrassed.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Her phantom powers have caused people to label her as "The Possessed" and either avoid her at best or outright demean at worst. It takes the forging of several friendships along the way for this to eventually erode.
%%* TheHeart
* IdiotHair: Two of them to be exact, fitting into her [[{{ThePollyanna}} cheerful personality]].
* ISeeDeadPeople: Also, she can temporarily give them corporeal form.
* InstantFanclub: Marona gains one after [[spoiler:winning Cauldron's respect]].
* JustAKid: If people don't know about her infamous reputation, they think she's just a normal kid. In Another Marona, she constantly feels pressured to get stronger as fast as the others. Justified in that everyone is a phantom and their stamina isn't affected that much, unlike her.
* KidHero: Marona is TheHero of the story and hasn't even reached her teens yet.
* MoralityPet: Marona served this role with Carona in the Another Marona storyline.
* {{Necromancer}}: Marona's Chartreuse Gale is what allows her to summon the spirits of the dead to fight.
* NiceGirl: Sweet, selfless, and kindhearted young girl who treats everyone with kindness. This trope is played with in {{Tearjerker}}ing levels because of [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer the way people treated her]].
* PluckyGirl: ''Another Marona'' has her act a little more abrasive, such as mildly sounding displeased nobody is trying to flank her from getting paid again or calling Sprout "old man".
* ThePollyanna: She has a strong optimistic point of view that one day, people will treat her with kindness in return.
* PowersViaPossession: In later games, she has Psycho Burgundy and Meteo Helianthus. She can get the ability herself in-game via absorbing Sienna's Soul Saber and Raphael's Heliotrope.
* RedBaron: [[spoiler:After defeating Sulfur, people start calling her [[TitleDrop the Phantom Brave]].]]
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the red oni to Ash's and Carona's blue.
* SquishyWizard: Statistic-wise, she has good magic ability, but her physical attacks and health growth is very terrible. Subverted that it is possible to make her a powerhouse with proper item customization.
* SurvivalMantra: "One day...everyone will come to like you," if you treat them with kindness. [[spoiler:Apparently, she's right.]]
* {{Tareme Eyes}}
* TechnicalPacifist: She ''really'' hates violence, but is willing to summon phantoms to kick your ass if she needs to protect the people she cares about [[spoiler:or if you call her flat-chested]].
* TenderTears: Prone to breaking down crying easily.
* TokenMiniMoe
* WhiteMagicianGirl: Her [[MagicStaff weapon of choice]] and stats make her an excellent healer, and her personality fits, but you can make her a BlackMage, instead.
* WideEyedIdealist: [[spoiler:The idealism paid off for her at the end.]]

! Ash
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Ash_little_2_8495.png]]
-> Voiced by: Creator/HiroShimono (JP), Creator/LexLang (EN)

Secondary main character. Ash is Marona's spiritual guardian and one of her closest friends. Before his death, he used to fight alongside Marona's parents as a Chroma. He can occasionally move in and out of his intangible state whenever he needs to talk to someone.
----
%%* BigBrotherInstinct
* DeadpanSnarker: Usually when Marona is being a little silly or naive.
* DeadToBeginWith
* {{Expy}}: To Laharl in some degree. Their trademark weapon is a sword (which is subverted [[ImprobableWeaponUser judging by the gameplay mechanics]]), they wear a badass scarf, both [[DeadpanSnarker make certain snarky and sarcastic comments at times]], and similar hair styles. Series artist Takehito Harada is well aware of this, as one of the promotional illustrations shows Ash with his arms folded with antenna hair and a perpetual frown.
* FacePalm
* HeroesPreferSwords: He can use any weapon, but swords are weapons he can level up fastest with.
* IdiotHair
* InTheNameOfTheMoon: "You'll go no further! For her sake, I will not fail!" The original Japanese version is roughly translated as "Give me the strength to vanquish evil! The power of the Water Dragon, Eccarlate!"
* IntangibleMan
* LightningBruiser: Ash's special ability allows him to take action right after being summoned, and on his last turn (and ''only'' his last turn), his attack power is doubled.
* MakingASplash: In his ''Disgaea'' appearences, his exclusive attacks are water-based.
* NiceGuy: If a little too overprotective.
* OlderThanTheyLook: As he had died 10 years ago, Ash's body never aged as a phantom and he should be close to his thirties now. This fact is PlayedForLaughs by Carona regarding his relationship with Marona.
* RedIsHeroic: His scarf.
* ScarfOfAsskicking
* TheLancer: To Marona, overlapping with his BigBrotherInstinct. Justified, as she is a still-growing child whereas he's an adult with the social experience she lacks. He will also be the first one to point out when others are mocking her, often (futilely) attempting to get Marona to assert herself to others.
* TooManyBelts: One in each arm and foot.
* YouShallNotPass: His declaration before battle.

!Carona
[[quoteright:171:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Carona_7130.png]]
[[caption-width-right:171:Carona without her cape]]
Introduced in "Another Marona", Carona is Marona from another dimension.
----
* AlternateUniverseReedRichardsIsAwesome: Carona happens to be far more competent and stronger than Marona. This is highlighted further once you get her phantom after beating the Another Marona storyline; she is statistically a better version of Marona. Not only that, you can summon Carona's phantom into battle and then use ''her'' to confine other phantoms. This is useful in many Dungeon runs where Marona starts off in a level where she cannot physically reach the area.
* AgeInappropriateDress[=/=]{{Stripperiffic}}
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: [[spoiler:Her situation is '''''much worse''''' than Marona.]]
* ApologeticAttacker: In the ([[GameplayandStorySegregation supposedly]]) HopelessBossFight when you first meet her.
* {{Antihero}}: Type III with some degree of Type IV.
** PragmaticHero-UnscrupulousHero
* BadassAdorable
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the blue oni to Marona's red.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:Due to her not having the miracles that Marona had — most importantly, Ash's revival as a phantom.]]
* CombatMedic: Carona has the physical strength Marona lacks while having enough Healing experience (though less than her other self) to qualify.
* TheCynic: Without Ash as a MoralityPet, Carona was forced to develop a thick skin to cope with a world that hated her; leading her to assume the worst in people ala Walnut. Of course, Marona is Marona - despite her gruff exterior, she's kind enough deep down.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Is this compared to Marona.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Looks the part of an EvilTwin of Marona, wearing a sinister cape and wielding an evil-looking sword. She's actually [[spoiler: an {{Antihero}} being blackmailed into working with God Eryngi to save her world and was simply trying to save whoever she could]].
%%* DarkMagicalGirl
* DoNotCallMePaul: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], to avoid confusion between herself and the other Marona.
* DeadpanSnarker: She's got the verbal bite of a hardened cynic and will rail on the others if given the chance.
* DubNameChange: Her name in Japan is Kurone[[note]]''Kuro'' is ''black'' in Japanese, further placing her as the "Dark" Marona[[/note]]. Because Marrone became Marona in the U.S., Kurone had to go through a similar name change.
%%* DullEyesOfUnhappiness
* TheEeyore: Carona is a sullen girl who very rarely jokes around or smiles. Understandable, given she's had a much harsher life than Marona.
* GoodIsNotNice: Carona [[spoiler: is trying to save her world by working with the Merchant Of Death; having failed against her world's Sulphur]]. This would involve either [[spoiler: making the others into Eryngi's slaves or trading their world's fate for hers]].
%%* HadesShaded
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Subverted, she was actually ''trying to save her world from the start''. [[ForcedIntoEvil She was forced to be a slave of God Eryngi to prevent him from killing everyone in her world.]]]]
* IneffectualLoner: PlayedForDrama. Carona didn't have any of the miracles Marona had in her life. Ash wasn't around to be her MoralityChain and growing up alone in an unfeeling world with cursed powers [[BreakTheCutie shattered Carona's psyche]]; forcing her to become a Chroma Oxide to survive. When it came time to [[spoiler: fight Sulphur for the fate of her world, ''she lost'' and only managed to prevent the end of the world by shackling herself to God Eryngi]]. However, her time as TheMentor to Marona and her allies during the game opens Carona's heart and through the bonds she forges, she's convinced to [[spoiler: rebel against Eryngi]]. No longer alone, she's finally able to save her world and ends the game [[spoiler: about to befriend her world's Castile]].
* ISeeDeadPeople: Same as Marona, naturally.
* KillSteal: She is a Chroma Oxide, but according to Carona, she only steals Chroma rewards from "bad people" like Walnut.
%%* LittleMissBadass
%%* LittleMissSnarker
* MentorInSourArmor: Carona puts the heroes through TrainingFromHell whilst snarking at and insulting them along the way; partly out of pettiness towards how her world's heroes treated her and partly [[spoiler: per ThePlan to enslave the group to God Eryngi to save her world]]. However, there's moments the facade slips and Carona briefly becomes the sad scared little girl she is deep down. All things considered, the heroes are understanding.
* MoralityChain: [[spoiler:Not a straightforward example, but taking Ash away from her makes her exposed to the full raw hatred towards her and made her a ''very'' bitter girl.]]
* {{Necromancer}}: Just like Marona, Carona can weaponize the dead against her enemies. ''Unlike Marona,'' this also includes [[spoiler: shadows of Sulphur]].
* NotSoStoic: She has a cynical, sullen, and bitter personality and is often calm most of the time, [[spoiler:but she did break down when Eryngi threatened to summon Sulphur into her world and kill everyone there with the Magenta Core. While Eryngi tried to reason with her on saving the world [[AllOfTheOtherReindeer where everyone hated her]], she decided to turn against Eryngi because she finally realizes that [[YouAreNotAlone she isn't alone]]]].
* OneManArmy: [[spoiler:Since she was raised in a world without Ash around,]] it is safe to assume something like that. Though an interesting subversion is on maps where you actually fight her, as you also have to fight other groups of monsters along with her.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: The reason why [[spoiler:she made Raphael, Sprout, Walnut, and the Raven Captains fight against their own bodies confined with Sulphur's minions]].
%%* SaveThisPersonSaveTheWorld
* {{Stripperific}}: Plays this very straight without the cape as seen above.
* TechnicalPacifist: Like Marona, she is "not a big fan into violence."
* ThrowTheDogABone: After the events of Another Marona [[spoiler:it's implied that she meets [[OnlyFriend Castile]]]].
* TrainingFromHell: Forced Marona and the heroes into this.
* TragicHeroine: [[spoiler:Her life was far harder than Marona's, Ash wasn't there in her world, and in the original final battle against Sulphur, she '''fails''' and [[ForcedIntoEvil is forced to be a slave to Eryngi]].]] If the events of Another Marona didn't happen...
* WillfullyWeak: [[spoiler:She was using her advanced Confine on Marona the whole time.]]
* WiseBeyondTheirYears
* YouAreNotAlone: The reason why Carona [[spoiler:turned against God Eryngi at the end]].

[[folder:Chromas]]

! Walnut[[spoiler:/Faded]]
[[quoteright:245:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/korn_little_2_6087.png]]
-> Voiced by: Creator/KosukeToriumi (JP), Creator/SteveBlum (EN; Creator/VicMignogna in the remake's "Another Marona" bonus story)

Walnut is a bounty hunter. He possesses the powers of a Chroma, but is employed as a Chroma Oxide, one who steals the bounties of other Chromas by either defeating the monster assigned to them, or defeating the Chroma outright.
----
* TheAlcoholic: If he's not out on a job, expect him to be taking shots at the local bar.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: [[KidsAreCruel He was ridiculed by children]] long ago when he was a child just because he was adopted.
* BountyHunter
* BrattyHalfPint: During his youth, he caused a lot of trouble and beat up children badly for their treatment to him.
* ButtMonkey: In Another Marona, any time he tries to escape from training with the others, Carona always kindly reminds him by tossing him around like a rag doll before he can blink.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His preference for taking advantage of and backstabbing people who are stronger and nastier than him eventually earns him some nasty comeuppance. [[spoiler:Messing with Cauldron is what causes him to reach into financial difficulties, which only causes his secret donations towards Castile's treatment to come to a full stop, ''which'' forces their parents to work overtime away from home.]]
* EnemyMine: [[spoiler:Teamed up with Ash and Marona against Sulphur's minions briefly to save his little sister, Castile.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:At the end of the game to stop Sulphur.]]
* IneffectualLoner: He never had any friends as a child and that hadn't changed as he got older. The only friend he had is Persimmon, who gives him the latest news along with job offers. Also, [[spoiler:pissing off Cauldron didn't make things any better for him]].
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* KillSteal: Part of his job description.
* {{Leitmotif}}: R&R Junkie.
* LightningBruiser: The gameplay style of Walnut (due to his high strength and HP growth). When you first meet him, he is capable of taking out most of Sulphur's minions ''all by himself.'' You also meet him again [[EnemyMine as an ally]] fighting against Sulphur's minions [[spoiler:when saving Castile]]. Though being said, it's more appropriate to [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential kill him off during battle and take all the kills by yourself]]. It also fits his loner personality as well.
* MacGuffin: [[spoiler:The shell necklace he gave to Castile before he abandoned his family. It eventually was given to Marona by Castile herself.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Indirectly releasing Sulphur to Ivoire makes him feel like shit.]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Not exactly heroic, but, [[spoiler:he dooms Ivoire into dealing with Sulphur by releasing the last ties binding him at the Isle of Evil by using Psycho Burgundy. He didn't know about this]].
* NotQuiteDead: His [[spoiler:HeroicSacrifice at the end of the game]] made it unclear if he survived or not, with Marona and Castile having to go [[VideoGame/MakaiKingdom dimension hopping]] to check. [[spoiler:It turns out he ended up in the world of [[VideoGame/SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters Haephnes]] and is now going by the name Endorph.]]
* ParentalAbandonment [[spoiler:Originally an orphan named Faded, but left his adoptive family so that he wouldn't burden them.]]
* PlayingWithFire: His Psycho Burgundy attack lights his ''soul'' on fire.
* TheRival: To Marona and Ash, though Marona doesn't think so (honestly), which infuriates the man.
* TheSocialDarwinist: Believes wholeheartedly in this and even gloats about it when Marona is turned away by her client.
* TooManyBelts
* WhatTheHellHero: He chastises Marona for taking Chroma jobs and not accepting a reward in return, when that reward money could go toward Castile's medicine--whether through Marona's kindness or because it's available for Walnut to steal.

! Sprout
[[quoteright:264:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sprout_little_2_1426.png]]
-> Voiced By: Creator/{{David Lodge|AmericanActor}} (EN)
An 85-year-old man whose family was slain by Sulphur's hand many years before the game's main storyline. He has sworn to kill Sulphur and avenge his family, and has turned to the use of dark powers in order to achieve his revenge, despite once being the wielder of a holy sword. He is the former mentor of Raphael, and one of the warriors known as the Nine Swords of Ivoire, and is considered by most in the world to be the strongest. His signature technique is the power Dark Eboreus.
----
* AntiHero: Type IV
%%* {{BFS}}
* BodyHorror: The shining, most disturbing example in the whole game happens when [[spoiler:Sulphur tries to resurrect itself from within his body... and it breaks out from his ''stomach'' with multiple twitching ''tentacles'']].
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:Defeats Sulphur when he's manifesting, but the amount of hate he has leads to Sulphur surviving by possessing him. He kills himself in an attempt to stop him, but Sulphur still survives]].
%%* CrusadingWidower
%%* DarkIsNotEvil
%%* DemonicPossession
* DumbMuscle: When he's not seeking revenge on Sulphur, he shows signs of this. Especially apparent in ''Another Marona''.
* FallenHero: He was renowned for his sword abilities until the despair of losing his family to Sulphur dragged him down to this state.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:...I am Sprout, master of the Sacred Sword. In death, I have reclaimed my honor.]]
%%* HeWhoFightsMonsters
%%* MightyGlacier
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning
* {{Revenge}}: His goal in his life is revenge against Sulphur for the death of his family. So much so that [[spoiler:Sulphur manages ''[[DemonicPossession to take control of his body]]'' and feeds on his hatred before Sprout performs his HeroicSacrifice]].
%%* UnscrupulousHero
* WorldsStrongestMan: Is recognized as the strongest of the 9 Swords of Ivoire [[spoiler:and next to Sulphur, he's the strongest enemy in the story mode]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ravens]]

!Raphael

-> Voiced By: Creator/CrispinFreeman (EN; Creator/PatrickSeitz in "Another Marona" story)
One of the Nine Swords, leader of the White Wolf Army, and the wielder of the Heliotrope blade.
----
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Briefly by Sulphur, but Marona and Ash manage to snap him out of it by defeating his possessed form.]]
* HeroesPreferSwords: Heliotrope.
* HopelessBossFight: When you first battle him at Island of Evil, you're not supposed to win in the fight against him. However, with "failure" dungeons, it is possible to beat him when you first meet as well as getting his sword up to ''three'' times.
* InstantFanclub: It is revealed in "Another Marona" story that he has a large dedicated fanclub to him. Luckily, the Raphael in Carona's world wasn't aware of this either.
%%* KnightInShiningArmor
%%* LightIsGood
* LightningBruiser: Gameplay-wise, he's basically an improved version of the Knight class, which has the ability to [[GradualRegeneration regenerate health over time]].
%%* LongHairedPrettyBoy
* NiceGuy: For starters, unlike virtually everyone else in the world, Raphael is always cordial to Marona and genuinely likes and respects her. When the Elder of Desert Island hires Marona to defeat a rampaging Raphael (a fake) and then uses LoopholeAbuse to cheat her out of her pay, Raphael, who heard ''everything'', immediately begins tearing up the place to teach him a lesson.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He was around during the time of Sulphur's chaotic destruction 30 years ago, yet he doesn't look any older than 50 years old. This is [[LampshadeHanging mentioned]] by Marona during the "Another Story" arc.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Even if all of Ivoire is scared of the fact that this guy can be a threatening individual, he is extremely helpful and cordial to Marona, and genuinely respects her.
* SurpassedTheTeacher: He believes he did this to Sprout when the man was led astray in his despair and revenge against Sulphur.

!Drab
A famous warthog Raven captain of the Fighting Beasts, which are the eternal rivals of Raphael's White Wolf Army.
----
* BadassInDistress: [[spoiler:While trying to restore his pride as a Raven, he and his team fall victim to an abnormally warm weather at Hinterland Island.]] Marona and Ash are able to rescue them without letting them know it was them.
* AFatherToHisMen: He greatly respects his men and will do anything to keep them alive before he kicks the bucket.
* HonorBeforeReason: Absolutely despises being helped or defeated by others, especially Chromas and little girls.

!Bijou
A werewolf who terrorizes islands by pretending to be Raphael.
----
* ButtMonkey: After his attempts to pretend to be Raphael are foiled, he turns into a very goofy member of the Fighting Beasts, always getting injured by his peers.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Sulphur's essence takes over his body while in Desert Island.]]
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: At no point do you ever see him or his kind in human form.
* PaperThinDisguise: Raphael's famous exploits aren't enough for many islanders to tell the two apart from each other.
* RememberTheNewGuy: After being introduced by his team to Marona... she and Ash have ''no'' idea where they even met him before.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Supporting Cast]]

!Canary
A shady fellow man and president of the [[AnimalWrongsGroup Human Activists for Rare Monsters]] trying to protect rare monsters from human movements threatening them.
----
* AnimalWrongsGroup
* FunWithAcronyms: His organizations outright spells HARM.
* {{Jerkass}}: He ''is'' devoted to helping rare monsters find peace, but his rash attitude towards them leaves a lot to be desired.

!Ringmaster Hamm
The leader of a famous circus troupe traveling around Ivoire.
----
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: [[spoiler:Towards his brother Hogg. They both treasure their family photos so much despite their bickering.]]
* MacGuffin: The photo of his family showing him and his brother.
* RankUp: [[spoiler:After he reconciles with his brother, he is immediately promoted to vice president of Bamboo Co. It's unclear if he continued doing circus work.]]
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: He denies being asked if the kid next to him in the photo is his brother, but it is.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He puts Putty (Mocha) behind bars and uses him for his circus, but doing so also helps the creature stay safe from the infamous reputation as a Thief of the Forest.

!Putty (Mocha)
A normal Putty Marona tried to help escape from captivity but eventually ended up earning his freedom.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: As one of the "Thieves of the Forest", people detest him.
* PoorCommunicationKills: He can't communicate with people, [[spoiler:so they never realize his kind just wants to keep their stuff safe somewhere]].
* RealityWarper: His kind's special skill is to take stuff [[spoiler:or even demented essences of pure darkness]] and whisk it to other dimensions.
* {{Troll}}: His kind greatly enjoys taking belongings from people and warping them away from existence for their amusement. It's hard for them to tell those belongings have sentimental values and end up losing them forever. [[spoiler:Castile learns they pull items to another dimension for safekeeping, which includes belongings and food supplies. These creatures are only keeping people's stuff safe, but this was seen as stealing, since Putties have poor communication skills.]]
* UngratefulBastard: When [[spoiler:he and Castile were kidnapped by Sulphur's minions]], she laughed at how he had zero faith in Marona and Ash rescuing them.

Castile is a young girl who lives on the mainland. She is very ill and unable to walk, but she helps ease her pain by writing letters. Through this, she becomes Marona's first human friend.
----
* AdmiringTheAbomination: Invoked. Everyone uneducated sees Ash as a menace. She thinks he's cool for being a phantom.
* BadassAdorable: [[spoiler:Her ''VideoGame/MakaiKingdom'' appearance.]]
* TheBeastmaster: Not exactly pronounced, but she is the first person in the world to be able to communicate with Putties using sign language. [[spoiler:She exploits this gift in the fight against Sulphur.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: She admitted that she ignored having a disease at all, which was the main reason why her family concentrated their earnings on her and held herself back from doing anything. After she receives encouragement from Marona and Ash, Castile starts to work hard to be useful and speak on behalf of others.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:A revived form of Sulphur kidnaps her at the Isle of Healing Waters while she was allowed to go out on her wheelchair.]]
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Her room is filled with them.
* HappilyAdopted: Maybe. The game seems to imply that she's Saffron and Joan's blood child, but in her cameo appearances in other games, she's able to use [[spoiler:Psycho Burgundy]], which implies a blood relation to [[spoiler:Walnut, aka her adopted older brother Faded]].
* HiddenBuxom: Not so apparent because of her nightgown. Her outfit in ''VideoGame/MakaiKingdom'' brings it out a little more.
* ItsAllMyFault: Her condition is what drove her formerly rich family poorer to an average family to pay for her treatments, which is often a topic that saddens her greatly. Even more so when she blames herself for her older brother Faded deserting the family, [[spoiler:though that is not exactly the reason]].
%%* LittlestCancerPatient
* MacGuffin: The shell necklace she gave to Marona [[spoiler:was given to Castile by her brother Faded]].
* MysteriousProtector: Unbeknownst to her and her family, [[spoiler:her older brother has been secretly funding and paying her treatments from the shadows. When his money is taken away, it forces Castile's parents to work away from home to keep up with the payments]].
* NiceGirl: Incredibly selfless, proper, and an all-around good friend to have for support.
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:Like her brother, she has the Psycho Burgundy ability.]]
* ThisIsUnforgivable: She finally has had enough of listening to Indigo's writer Filbert badmouthing Marona that she decides to complain to the newspaper team about him.
* ThrowTheDogABone: Became Marona's first true friend. Cue the tears.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:In subsequent appearances, she is cured of her illness, develops the Psycho Burgundy ability, and joins Marona as a Chroma.]]

!Persimmon
-> Voiced by: Creator/DaveWittenberg (EN)
An owl informant of Walnut who lets him know of every single Chroma job in Ivoire for him to foil as a Chroma Oxide.
----
* BlackMarket: What his profession entails to.
* HonorAmongThieves: Despite his apparent profession of setting Walnut up with dirty jobs, and at least some part in [[spoiler:the attempted murder of Marona and Ash]], Persimmon comes across as an entirely sympathetic character and--at least when standing next to Walnut--one of the good guys. He has apparently saved Walnut's life repeatedly, even when all he gets for it is a punch in the beak, and always seems to have Walnut's best interests at heart. He even gets the final shot in the credits.
* OnlyFriend: The only person who Walnut opens up to...for a certain definition of "opens up".

!Count Malt
A Scrabbit noble who searches all over Ivoire for the whereabouts of Scarlet the Brave, his close friend.
----
* PalsWithJesus: With Scarlet the Brave.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Very rich and certainly very nice to people, even to Marona after learning about her reputation.

!President Hogg
Owner of Bamboo Co., one of the three leading pharmaceutical companies in the world.
----
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: [[spoiler:Towards his brother Hamm. They both treasure their family photos so much despite their bickering.]]
* McGuffin: While he and his brother are at odds with each other, [[spoiler:deep down he treasures him so much that he is willing to go back into his phantom-infested building all the way to the top floor to retrieve the family photo with him and his brother]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He tried to raid Verdant Guardian [[spoiler:twice]] and eliminate the Putties to expand his company and the medical efforts for ill patients. He didn't care about the Putties, but did so for battling illnesses.

!Sienna/[[spoiler:Scarlet the Brave]]
-> Voiced by: Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn (EN)
[[quoteright:188:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sienna_2_143.png]]
Owner of the Bottlemail Industry in Clutter Haven along with her scrabbit colleague, Murasaki.
----
* CassandraTruth: [[spoiler:She tried to rally some of the island elders to fight against Sulphur and Marona's plan, but they scoff it off because they are expecting Scarlet the Brave to be a strong man and not a woman with a broken leg.]]
* HiddenPurposeTest: Highly implied. [[spoiler:When Marona accumulated enough bordeaux to buy Phantom Isle from Sienna, she declined the money offer and instead sent her to the Isle of Evil to retrieve the Rainbow Bird (along with the Fighting Ravens). At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Sienna actually owned the Rainbow Bird ''from the beginning'' and she intentionally set it free so she can learn more about Marona as a person (the Rainbow Bird escaping was most likely the reason for Sienna to give Marona full ownership of Phantom Isle, as she expected her to release the Rainbow Bird or give it to someone else rather than giving the bird directly to her. And besides, the bird escaped from its cage because Marona, being the [[NiceGirl nicest girl in Ivoire]], decided to give up the ownership of the Rainbow Bird to Walnut after beating his ass along with reviving him, feeling that Walnut deserves the bird for a certain reason).]]
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:With an Owlman, who was killed by Sulphur. His death caused Sienna to (nearly) [[StartofDarkness seek the path of darkness]] similar to Sprout. Fortunately enough, Marona and Ash were sent back to time and prevented her from doing that, thus creating a StableTimeLoop. Oh yeah, the owlman's spirit thanked Marona and Ash for getting her out of the path to darkness.]]
* LivingLegend: [[spoiler:She's actually the legendary Scarlet the Brave, a Brave who had defeated Sulphur 30 years ago.]]
* NiceGirl: In fact, she is one of the few adults in the game that didn't discriminate against Marona for [[ISeeDeadPeople her ability]].
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:She has the Psycho Burgundy ability.]]
%%* ProperLady
%%* PimpedOutDress
* SamusIsAGirl: [[spoiler:Scarlet The Brave is a girl!]]
* {{Tomboy}}: [[spoiler:"I used to be quite the tomboy, but I'm hardly a man."]]
* WalkingSpoiler: [[spoiler:Her true identity as a past hero.]]

!Cauldron
A rich merman Island Collector capable of hiring any Raven and buying any island in Ivoire.
----
* AffectionateNickname: After the scuffle with Marona, he falls in love with her cuteness and calls her "Maronakins". He is smitten when she calls him "Papa Cauldron" back.
* AmazonChaser: A rare nonromantic/nonsexual case. He's nuts for his "Maronakins" after she soundly defeated all his hired mercenaries.
* BumblingDad: Invoked to Marona.
* ConsummateProfessional: While a bit emotional, he's not one to let it get in the way of business. He doesn't hold a grudge against Marona after she beat him fair and square, and he doesn't care that she's "possessed" or hangs around with Phantoms — only that she can get the job done (and that she's adorable). He did [[spoiler:promise to ensure that Walnut would never get another job]], but that was because the man was a clear liability.
* TheDreaded: He has a big name in Ivoire, so much so that messing with his business plans is enough to put a Chroma out of a job.
* InstantFanClub: For Marona. [[spoiler:It ''does'' take off with time.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: He initially tried to buy Phantom Isle from Sienna, not caring one bit he would have to drive Marona away from there. He also didn't care about killing her with the many Ravens he hired.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: That said, once Marona obtains the rights to Phantom Isle and is no longer her rival, he's far more affable and becomes a doting grandfather figure to her. Those who are against his Maronakins, however, have to watch their backs.
* NothingPersonal: Ultimately, it was simply his reputation as the Island Collector that led him into conflict with Marona. Once the whole Phantom Isle deal was over, he's much more affable towards her and Ash from then on.
* PapaWolf: Towards Marona. Insulting her name forces him to defend her by threatening others.
* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: The first rule of the Marona fan club is "don't let others talk smack of Marona" or else you need to beat them up for it to spread a good word about her. Ash is mortified.

[[folder:The Lord of Terror]]

!Sulphur
The Lord of Terror. An evil entity that appeared from another world that rampaged across Ivoire before it was defeated by Scarlet the Brave, but it survived and is returning. The closer it comes, the more monsters appear, before it finally returns.
----
* AsLongAsThereIsEvil: Or great amounts of it will cause it to keep coming back.
%%* BigBad
%%* DarkIsEvil
* DiabolusExNihilo: Nobody in the game seems to have any idea where he came from or exactly what he is.
* TheDreaded: Everybody is terrified of it, and most assume its arrival means the end of everything.
* EldritchAbomination
* EmotionEater: [[spoiler:Survives a defeat from Sprout by possessing him through his hate.]]
%%* FinalBoss
%%* FlatCharacter
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: [[spoiler:Its second revival happens through Sprout even while he is dead. It could be said it lives because it is confined to Sprout's dead body.]]
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: It's an EldritchAbomination that wreaks havoc, has no characterization, and doesn't even talk save for one moment where it ''barely'' utters Scarlet's name. There, its voice echoes and has a sound tinged with metal.
* TheVoiceless: Mostly, anyway. The only thing it ever says is the name of the person who defeated him.
