!!Ethan Morgan
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eth_2795.JPG]]
->Portrayed by: Creator/MatthewKnight

Ethan Morgan just wants to be a normal high school student, continue his unbroken streak on the honor roll, and maybe, just maybe, impress his beautiful babysitter and best friend, Sarah. But two things are making that almost impossible: the constant paranormal chaos of Whitechapel, and his best friend, Benny. Luckily, Ethan has his visions to prepare him for the excitement that's sure to find them in Whitechapel.

* ActionSurvivor
* AfraidOfNeedles
* AllGuysWantCheerleaders: At least until he has to ''[[WholesomeCrossdresser dress up like one.]]''
* BadassBoast: ''"Prepare to get Ethan-ized!"''
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler: Uses this to provoke Vice Principal Stern into absorbing the Lucifractors power, possibly killing Stern in the process.]]
* CrazyPrepared
* DealWithTheDevil: Ethan offering a pint of his blood to nurse vampires, in exchange for Rory and Erica.
* GenreSavvy
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Benny.
* ItsAllMyFault: Blames himself, and falling prey to Jesse, for Sarah becoming a full fledged Vampire.
* KissingCousins: To his credit, he didn't know.
* MistakenForGay: Happened once after his dad walks in on Ethan's web chat with Benny.
* OfficialCouple: With Sarah, by the time of season two finales, but like most of the finale, it's not all that clear. And even the writers and cast are not even sure. Mike Kiss (a writer on the show) says that while they are not a couple at the end of the season 2 finale, he agrees with Vanessa Morgan (Sarah) that Ethan and Sarah have progressed to more than friends. Whatever that means. So yeah, nothings clear.
* {{Seers}}: It's insinuated in TheMovie that [[spoiler:that it's a familial trait, so his children might have the same gift]].
** As of the end of Season 2, Ethan's powers have evolved to outright {{Telepathy}} by touch.
* ShipTease: With Sarah, ALL THE TIME!
* SociallyAwkwardHero: And '''HOW!!!'''
* SupernaturallyDeliciousAndNutritious: Has a rare blood type that is especially appealing to vampires, as revealed in ''Blood Drive''.
* TeenGenius

!!Sarah
[[quoteright:348:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sar_7579.JPG]]
->Portrayed by: Creator/VanessaMorgan

Sarah was a soft spoken member of the ''Dusk'' fan club, until she met up with a real-life fang-boy named Jesse and her life changed forever. Now she's a feisty fledgling: half-vampire, half-human, and forever struggling to find the best of both worlds. When Sarah fell into babysitting Jane and Ethan Morgan, the later who became one of her best friends, she had no idea she'd end up protecting them from werewolves, ghosts, zombies, demons, witches and a rotating roster of bloodsuckers (including some of her best friends)!

* ActionGirl
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Her actress is biracial.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Sarah is usually friendly and sweet to pretty much everyone, but mess with her friends, especially Ethan or Jane, her inner vamp will come out. As she warns Jesse...
-->''Get it through your tiny bat brain, if you hurt one of my friends I will make you regret it, even if it takes a thousand years!!''
* CoolBigSis: To Jane
* CursedWithAwesome
* CuteLittleFangs
* DeclarationOfProtection: Sarah's feelings towards Ethan, when danger arises. Subverted in ''Friday Night Frights'', when she tells him that she can't fight a ghost, and [[InvokedTrope specifically invoked by Sarah]] in ''Welcome Back Dusker''.
* DemonicPossession: In ''Three Geeks and a Demon''.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire
* {{Gasshole}}: Learned the hard way what happens to vampires that drink too much blood.
* GenreSavvy: Not as much as Ethan, Benny, and Rory, but she's starting to pick up on things.
* GirlNextDoor: It's right there in the theme song.
* HeartbrokenBadass: As of the end of the season one finale. She gets better, though.
* HeroicSacrifice: She sucks out Jesse's venom from Ethan's blood, giving up her mortality and turning into a full blooded vampire.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Erica, Best Friends Forever, Forever.
** MoralityChain: One of the reasons Erica doesn't go around killing everyone is because Sarah wouldn't be friends with her anymore.
* [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend He Is Not My Boyfriend]]: What Sarah says about Ethan. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt She's fooling absolutely no one.]] One memorable denial:
-->'''Vampire Thug:''' Fine, maybe the one we want is your little vampire hunter boyfriend.\
'''Sarah''': Leave him alone! Leave me alone! Unless you want to see some vampire on vampire attacks right now!\
'''{{Beat}}'''\
'''Sarah:''' And he's not my boyfriend!
* [[IHateYouVampireDad I Hate You, Vampire Ex-Boyfriend]]
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: Sarah's greatest fear, as demonstrated in ''Independence Daze''.
* MsFanservice : Sarah is made for this trope.
* [[NoNameGiven No Last Name Given]]: Her actress, however, has stated that if she could choose Sarah's last name, it would be Fox.
* OfficialCouple: With Ethan at the end of season two. But it's not clear. And even the writers and cast are not even sure. Mike Kiss (a writer on the show) says that while they are not a couple at the end of the season 2 finale, he agrees with Vanessa Morgan (Sarah) that Ethan and Sarah have progressed to more than friends. Whatever that means. So yeah, nothing's clear.
* ShipTease: With Ethan, ALL THE TIME!
* VampireRefugee
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Sarah's view on being a vampire. Half the season is her trying to find a way to regain her humanity through magical means. Other vampires actually taunt her on this, with one vampire specifically mentioning that she'll probably forget about Ethan and Benny after a couple of centuries, and Sarah herself saying that they will move on, get married and live fulfilling lives, while she will be 17 forever.
** LivingForeverIsAwesome: She seems to have changed her attitude after becoming a full-fledged vampire.

!!Benny Weir
->Portrayed by: Creator/AtticusMitchell

Benny Weir has been Ethan's louder, goofier best friend since they were both six years old. His grandmother, an earth priestess, informs Benny that he has the power to use magic. While he is just as brave and strategically clever as his pal, Benny admits that in his case it only applies to video games. Benny's dream is to one day make it big as a sorcerer, paranormal expert, and babe magnet.

* AllGuysWantCheerleaders: At least until he has to ''[[WholesomeCrossdresser dress up like one.]]''
* BromanticFoil
* CasanovaWannabe
* ChildMage
* CrazyPrepared: Hides water guns filled with holy water in various places around the neighborhood, and even has contingency plans in case someone else puts him under mind control.
* DatingCatwoman: Benny's goal concerning Erica.
* GenreSavvy
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Ethan.
* IneptMage: He's improving, though.
* JumpedAtTheCall
* MuggleBestFriend: Averted.
* ShipperOnDeck: Roots for Ethan/Sarah.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Pizza. In the pilot movie, he calls up the local pizza joint:
--> '''Benny''': Hi, it's me! Friday night regular order, thanks. Oh, and I'm next door, so just bring it there.

!!Rory Keaner
->Portrayed by: Creator/CameronKennedy

Rory is...well, Rory. He's the kind of guy even other geeks call a geek. And no matter how odd Ethan and Benny can be, Rory still manages to be the odd man out. Even becoming a vampire "demon of the night" failed to make Rory cooler or more popular. But it does mean he has more time to stay up late and try to beat his solo marshmallow eating record. One day Rory plans to prove to the world (especially the female population) how totally awesome he is. Until then he's just hoping his parents don't find out he is undead-- they'd kill him!

* AllGuysWantCheerleaders: Even when they're [[SweetOnPollyOliver his]] ''[[SweetOnPollyOliver male]]'' [[SweetOnPollyOliver friends in disguise.]]
* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type IV]].
* CasanovaWannabe
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: His view on being a vampire.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil
* MuggleBestFriend: Averted.
* ShipperOnDeck: Roots for Ethan/Sarah.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Rory is a complete buffoon in common sense, but he has his moments of intelligence (such as in ''Three Geeks and a Demon'' and ''Fanged And Furious'').
-->'''Rory:''' Did you try the on switch?
* SuperLoser: Slightly subverted in his '' 'Vampire Ninja' '' phase, where he verged into LetsGetDangerous territory.
* TooDumbToLive: At times.
* VampiresAreSexGods: Thoroughly averted in his case.

!!Erica
->Portrayed by: Creator/KateTodd

Erica is a huge fan of the movie ''Dusk''. As former president of the ''Dusk'' fan club, Erica spent a long time dreaming of a more romantic, more popular life where she could be confident, powerful and the envy of all. One bite is all it took for her to achieve her dream, and now Erica is enjoying every second of her life as a full fledged vampire. Deep down she's still the "good girl" she once was, but ever since she got her fangs it's just so much FUN being bad. Lucky for her Sarah is not giving up on her BFF.

* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type I]].
* AscendedFangirl
* BoomerangBigot: Erica despises and poorly treats people with a lower social status despite formerly being someone who was bullied before her transformation into a vampire.
* CuteLittleFangs
* TheDragon: To Jesse in TheMovie.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: Erica's clothing choices after she's bitten in the pilot movie. She even lampshades this as a reason for wanting to become a cheerleader and wear the uniform.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of ''Dusk''. As ''Smells Like Trouble'' and ''Welcome Back Ducker'' show, even becoming an AscendedFangirl hasn't lessened her {{Squee}} moments over anything associated with the franchise.
* ForgotFlandersCouldDoThat: In ''Flushed'', when the boys are mixing together a magical concoction, she actually corrects them on the proportions of their ingredients. Rory is impressed, but Benny reminds him that she was a nerd like them before she was bitten.
* FreudianExcuse: Before being turned Erica was a nerd who took a lot of crap. Afterwards she decided that this justifies her being a bitch.
* FullyEmbracedFiend
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Sarah, Best Friends Forever, Forever.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Likes to play up being an evil, uncaring, AlphaBitch vampire, but by the end of the second season has become good friends with Ethan, Benny and even Rory
* JumpedAtTheCall: Because EvilFeelsGood, makes you one very hot babe, and [[EvilMakeover lets you upgrade to a better wardrobe]].
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Her view on being a vampire.
* LovableAlphaBitch
* MsFanservice:Even more than Sarah sometimes.
* [[NoNameGiven No Last Name Given]]: Her actress, however, has stated that if she could choose Erica's last name, it would be Jones.
* OhCrap: She hits this pretty hard after [[spoiler:drinking Benny's blood and enjoying its taste]], because now she can't stop thinking about it ([[spoiler:or him]]).
* OnlySaneWoman: Of all people, Erica seems to be the only one in the group who thinks a human dating a vampire is a bad idea. (A point she tries to prove to Sarah by sending her and Ethan on a date at a vampire restaurant.)
* PickyEater: Once refused to feed from someone simply because she didn't like what they were wearing.
-->'''Erica:''' "People with bad taste taste bad."
* ShipTease: With both Benny and Rory at different times.
* [[ThatManIsDead That Woman Is Dead]]: Would like to people to forget that she was a nerd. When Benny brings this up (see ForgotFlandersCouldDoThat), she basically tells him not to say it again on pain of death.
* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: Thinks like a {{Vampire Werewolf| Love Triangle}} ParanormalRomance novel in ''"Blue Moon"''.
* TokenEvilTeammate: She's got both the general disregard for the well-being of others and the willingness to use her powers selfishly, but her friendship with Sarah [[MoralityChain prevents her from going over the edge]], as does the fact that Sarah keeps an eye on Erica whenever she suspects she might be up to something.
* WhatTheHellHero: Recommends to Ethan a restaurant to take Sarah on their first date...but it turns out the restaurant is run by vampires and the standard procedure is to have any humans present become the main course. Ethan and Sarah are pretty upset about this.
* TheWorfEffect: Gets hit by this alot.
* WrongGenreSavvy: At least in ''"Blue Moon"''.

!!Samantha Morgan
->Portrayed by: [[Creator/LauraDeCarteret Laura DeCarteret]]

Samantha Morgan is a fun-loving, supportive mom to Ethan and Jane, and she'll do whatever she can to keep her kids happy. But lately she seems to spend more time than ever just trying to figure out what the heck is going on! The house is getting mysteriously trashed almost every other week. Ethan's excuses are getting increasingly bizarre, and even Jane acts as if there's a whole other world only she knows about. Oh, well-- as long as everyone seems to be having a good time.

* AdultsAreUseless
* ParentalObliviousness
* ShoutOut: Her name is possibly one to [[Film/TheRing Samara Morgan]], but it could just be a coincidence.
* WeirdnessCensor: She ''really'' should've noticed and commented on some of the ongoing weirdness by now.

!!Ross Morgan
->Portrayed by: Creator/AriCohen

When Ross Morgan isn't taking cookery/dancing/archery lessons with his wife, he sells insurance-- which oddly enough is something people in Whitechapel seem to need a lot of. You just never know what's going to go wrong in this town. Ross is a proud father to Ethan and Jane, even though he doesn't always understand his son's geeky hobbies. But that doesn't stop Ethan's dad from trying to connect with his boy, though he'll probably never understand why his son seems to need a new microscope and a pound of garlic every other week.

* AdultsAreUseless
* ParentalObliviousness
* WeirdnessCensor: He ''really'' should've noticed and commented on some of the ongoing weirdness by now.

!!Jane Morgan
->Portrayed by: Creator/EllaJonasFarlinger

Jane Morgan is Ethan's little sister. Ethan insists that she's the one who needs a babysitter, but Jane doesn't miss a trick. Her father calls her "enterprising," and for good reason. Jane knows exactly how to get what she wants out of her family, Ethan in particular. She has a certain talent for magic, though her inexperience and lack of formal training cause her unsupervised spells to have less-than-desirable results.

* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: To Ethan.
* ChildMage: In both TheMovie and ''Guys and Dolls'', Jane showed that she has an affinity for magic.
* GirlScoutsAreEvil: Briefly, and it was only because the cookies she was selling was making her BrainwashedAndCrazy.

!!Evelyn Weir
->Portrayed by: Creator/JoanGregson

Benny's grandma and an Earth Priestess (a witch on the side of good).

* AdultsAreUseless: Pretty much the only adult that averts this, aside from the villainous adults.
* CoolOldLady
* GenreSavvy
* GloryDays: Touches upon this in the movie, when she says that after living in Whitechapel for almost a century, one learns a few things.
* IWasQuiteALooker
* TheMentor: On many things, especially in the "The Date To End All Dates (Part 2) when telling Ethan and Sarah that regardless of the teenage stuff going on that they care about each other and that Ethan want's to protect Sarah most of all.
* NoNameGiven: Up until ''Independence Daze''.
* StealthMentor: Qualifies as of ''Independence Daze'', considering that she [[spoiler: sent Benny, Ethan, and Sarah into alternate dimensions to face their individual worst fears, all to teach them a lesson about [[TeamSpirit working together.]]]]

!!Principal Hicks
->Portrayed by: Creator/HrantAlianak

The principal at Whitechapel High School.

!!Mr. G

A teacher at Whitechapel High School.

* AdultsAreUseless
* WeirdnessCensor

!!Anastasia
->Portrayed by: Creator/AddisonHolley

A new character introduced in Season 2. She's a little girl vampire who leads the Vampire Council.

* EveryoneHasStandards: When Erica and Rory volunteered to stay behind and fight [[spoiler:Vice Principal Stern]] while the council evacuates, she hypnotizes them to flee with her, not wanting to allow baby vampires to endanger themselves.
* {{Fangirl}}: Of ''Dusk'', but tries to deny it. She's not fooling anybody.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld
* UndeadChild: She was obviously turned at a very young age.
* VampireMonarch: She's the leader and pretty much the voice of the council.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Antagonists]]

!!Horace "Jesse" Black
->Portrayed by: Creator/JoeDinicol

Sarah's vampire ex-boyfriend who sired her against her wishes and the main villain of the PilotMovie. Back in the day, he was the leader of a vampiric cult that was wiped out centuries before.

He is a handsome and suave but sinister vampire whose charming smile hides a centuries-old secret. Not one to leave his fangs idle for long, Jesse has ambitious plans that he is determined to see succeed. With his considerable powers of persuasion, he hopes, one day, to control not only all of Whitechapel, but the spirited Sarah as well.

[[spoiler: Comes back from the dead at the end of Season 1 and, through a SadisticChoice, forces Sarah to become a full-fledged vampire. Sometime afterwards, he is kicked out of Whitechapel by the Vampire Council. Returns again in the Season 2 finale, this time, [[EnemyMine as an ally.]]]]

* BackFromTheDead
* BigBad: Of the movie. [[spoiler: And Season 1.]]
* CardCarryingVillain: His response to being called out by the heroes for what he did to them is "I'd like to be sorry about that, but you all know I've done much, much worse." You can tell from his tone that he's bragging about it.
* CorruptedCharacterCopy: He's a clear send up to [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Edward Cullen]], except Jesse sired his girlfriend against her wishes. That and he's a cult leader.
* EnemyMine: At [[spoiler:the end of Season 2.]]
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Jesse's opinion on being a vampire.
* RomanticVampireBoy: [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]]. He basically exists to show that dating the WishFulfillment vampire boyfriend would actually [[IncrediblyLamePun suck.]]
* SadisticChoice: [[spoiler: Makes Sarah choose between becoming a full vampire and giving up any chance she has of ever becoming human again or allowing Ethan to become a vampire.]]
* SinisterMinister: Back in the day, and in modern times, but now he keeps his cult a secret.
* SpiritualAntithesis: To [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Edward Cullen]].
* TheVamp: Rare male example.

!!Cloaked Man/[[spoiler: Vice Principal Stern]]
->Portrayed by: [[spoiler: Creator/RichardWaugh]]

The BigBad of Season 2. The Cloaked Man is a powerful mage with [[FantasticRacism a grudge against all vampires, good or evil.]] First appeared [[spoiler: in his cloaked persona]] in ''Independence Daze,'' though he was also responsible for the events of an earlier episode, ''Welcome Back Dusker''.

[[spoiler: He is eventually revealed to be Vice Principal Stern, who comes from a long line of powerful wizards. 200 years prior, his ancestor once tried to destroy every vampire in Whitechapel, but was stopped by Jesse. Stern ultimately schemes to reenact his ancestor's plans.]]

* BigBad: Of Season 2. He spends most of the season lurking behind the scenes ([[spoiler: and in plain sight]]) with the goal of vampire genocide. He attempts to put his plans into action both in the premire and the finale.
* DeadpanSnarker: Emphasis on the deadpan.
* DeanBitterman: [[spoiler: His students see him as just a pushy and humorless vice principal. The reality is much worse.]]
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: [[spoiler: Was seemingly just a grouchy prick of a Vice Principal, but the truth is much ''worse''.]]
* EvilIsPetty: In one of his more passive moments, he bans a fan club for a vampire novel from the school. In one of his less passive moments, he holds a murderous grudge towards Ethan for interfering with his plans, and makes him hallucinate everyone around him undead as a warning not to cross him.
* EvilSorcerer: [[spoiler:And teacher.]]
* FantasticRacism: Against vampires. His entire motivation for wiping them out is little more than genocidal hatred.
* [[spoiler: HoistByHisOwnPetard: Ethan gets in his head and tricks him into overloading the Lucifractor, causing an exlposion, likely killing him.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: He's extremely arrogant and abrasive in both his civilian guise and his true self.
* KnightOfCerebus: There are still a few comedic moments after his reveal, but overall, he still proves to be a pretty difficult villain to deal with and marks a dark turning point for the show.
* SadistTeacher: [[spoiler: Plays up this façade through out the season, but the truth is much worse. To emphasis the sadist aspect is his clear enjoyment in killing vampires, and you don't get much more psycho than actually attempting to ''murder your students''.]]
* TheSociopath: On the outside, he plays himself up as a gruff, mean and totalitarian teacher who dished out unfair punishments to his students. [[spoiler: In actuality, he has genocidal hatred towards vampires, seeks to wipe them out and clearly enjoys killing them and is willing to kill anyone who gets in his way, even if they're children, as in ''his own students''.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: Has one when Ethan calls him a weakling who's only hope for power is the Lucifractor, [[spoiler:to add insult to injury, it might have even killed him.]]
* WalkingSpoiler
