Here's a list of characters from the WebComic ''Webcomic/{{Misfile}}''.

It's an ongoing story about an [[GenderBending young man who woke as a woman]], except the plot is treated with much more emotional depth and serious character consideration than is the norm.

If you haven't read the comic first, [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2004-02-22 there you go]].

[[folder: Ash Upton]]
The girl who was a boy.
----
* AttractiveBentGender: In full effect, to Ash's constant chagrin. In his/"her" own words, "What I wouldn't have given to be a flat-chested no-looker that no one noticed." Not that his developed female body is that surprising given he inherits it from his mother, a former lingerie model.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Ash's father Dr. Edward Upton is a gynecologist who "never forgets a vagina" (and isn't at all shy about talking about them--see UltimateJobSecurity below) while Ash's mom Marie is a former lingerie model who has appeared in her fair share of racy catalogs. Ash notes that trying on bras would be awkward enough even if there wasn't a [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2006-11-22 large poster of his topless mother hanging in the fitting room.]]
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Played with: Ash relies on DontThinkFeel for his driving techniques, but Ash's ''racing'' technique is to constantly analyze the situation until he finds an advantage he can capitalize on. Ironically, his reflexive driving skills leave his mind free to to concentrate on the race itself.
%%* BadassDriver: A regular plot point in the series, being the undefeated "King of the Mountain" until he graduates from high school. The series' ending shows both him and his female self be members of a racing team together.
* BecomingTheMask: Ash fears that pretending to be a girl all the time will result in becoming one in mind as well as body. Ash has rather feminine body language and reactions, although he doesn't notice unless it goes over the top (like the swooning incident).
* ButchLesbian: Would come off as this, due to his sexual preferences not changing in the misfile... if people knew that Ash wasn't straight, that is. To most people, "she" is simply extremely tomboyish (though there are some who correctly suspect that Ash doesn't like guys, they haven't been able to prove it yet).
* ButtMonkey: Ash. So far he's been changed into a girl, shanghaied into several races he'd rather not take part in (often where the odds were artificially inflated against him), and gone through a whole lot of emotional hurt without being able to do much about it. Ash was also threatened none-too-subtly with rape by two men. [[spoiler: And left Little Harry without a diaper for a little too long.]] Even M-Ash had this. The track team gave him hell just because he had the slowest mile-long run time in Phys. Ed. In the truest sense of AdultsAreUseless, the teachers all turned a blind eye to it, including physical abuse (slapping him on the back of the head every time they lapped him), frequently making it worse by believing BlatantLies and making Ash run extra laps, enduring for over two years, until he snapped and trashed the track with his car... and then the teachers and principal punished him for it.
* CatapultNightmare: On occasion. The latest one seemingly includes some kind of pregnancy body horror, just going by Ash's body language. [[spoiler: The dream turns out to be equal parts hilarious and horrific.]]
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* DespairEventHorizon: Ash reveals to Emily that this has been his mindset from day 1. Every time he manages to get his head up for air, something or someone comes along and kicks him down again. He has come to believe that "hope" is just as much a curse as everything else that came out of Pandora's Box, and catching it wasn't a good thing.
* DudeLooksLikeALady[=/=]BoyishShortHair: Had the same haircut as a boy.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Had to go through ''a lot'' of crap to get that perfect ending he wanted...
* FieryRedhead: Has quite a big temper; as Rumsiel states, "Just because she needs you doesn't mean she won't kill you in a fit of rage."
%%* GoodAngelBadAngel
* GoodParents: Emily comments that Ash would make a good father. [[HeroicSelfdeprecation Ash doesn't believe it]]. Further, Ash's parental instincts with Little Harry are truly impressive.
* HatesBeingTouched: Due to major body dysphoria. It's so bad, Ash thinks a ''massage'' is stressful. in fact, a massage at a beauty salon triggered a FreakOut. Come December 22, 2015, and Ash's phobia has reached levels usually indicative of long-term abuse.
* IfItsYouItsOk: There are only two people who can touch Ash on a regular basis without being a trigger, Emily, and to a lesser extent Missi.
* ItsPersonal: Ash hates the track team with a passion, and it's more than justified.
* JediMindTrick: When Dr. Upton catches Ash reading a "How to Take Care Of Your Baby" book, Ash channels Obi-wan Kenobi.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Ash can be brash and judgemental, hot-tempered and at times impulsive; but he's also a genuinely well-meaning person with a strong conscience, cares deeply about his family and friends, and despite his bull-headedness carries a depth of empathy and a strong moral code. In other words, just your average guy caught in extenuating circumstances but trying to make the best of them.
* KarmaHoudini: Happens during his fight with Tom early on, something Ash actually notes is odd, but is otherwise happy because Tom is gone. At least until a few days later when Tom comes back and mocks Ash about how the principal found out about the whole story. Despite this sudden revelation, Ash is still not given a suspension.
* MenDontCry: Firmly believes this, along with a lot of other masculine stereotypes, and is distressed when he starts crying because he thinks it means he's becoming accustomed to his new sex.
* MortonsFork: Ash's entire life is this. Either the Misfile gets fixed and he loses out on Emily, his mother, the monster XR, the relationship with his father becomes cold and distant, Kate... etc. On the other, Ash keeps all of that, but gets stuck with a body that just does not fit, and loses out on his dream being a loving father, winds up facing discrimination against female race drivers both positive and negative, [[RapeAsDrama and all the horrors that being too attractive and female brings]]. Either way, Ash loses something big and precious.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Convinces Rumisiel to heal a guy with a fatal heart condition. Not only does the recipient chew him out for it, but the guy's girlfriend slaps him. Before that, Ash takes Missi to a family diner to prove she's not a ReplacementGoldfish and gets ''accosted'' by two men waiting for them in the parking lot next to Ash's car.
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: Why he broke up with Missy.
* NoodleIncident: Something happened with the track team that caused F-Ash to also retaliate by deliberately trashing the track with a car. (M-Ash did in response to bullying.) Ash eventually elaborates, and the implications are not pretty.
* OfficialCouple: With Emily. There are strong hints that were it not for the Misfile, he'd be this with Missi Fuller instead. According to Edward Upton, for F-Ash, James filled that role. Looks like the misfile was a wrecking ball on ''all'' of Ash's relationships.
* RapeAsDrama: A constant worry Ash would rather not think about. On the one hand, Ash finds it pretty insulting to have to look at guys like they're sexual predators. On the other hand, Ash has been not-too-subtly threatened with sexual assault, and Missi Fuller, of all people, believes that the latest StrawMisogynist, Dave, might respond with rape if he loses the race, he challenged Ash to...
* RealMenWearPink: He's much better at household chores than he lets on, or believes about himself. Although not a SupremeChef, he's a decent enough cook that he can modify recipes to compensate for deficiencies in store bought ingredients.
* SexGod: According to Emily, who actually has had sex with Ash, and to Missi's "erotic dreams," Ash is ''very'' good in bed.
* SheCleansUpNicely: Though Ash isn't thrilled about the prospects.
* ShowerOfAngst: Upon learning that while Rummi's exile is not permanent, thanks to Ash's incredible efforts, it's still going to be 72 years before he can go back and ''try'' to fix the Misfile. Ash turns this into FullFrontalAssault, with rather unusual SceneryCensor on Emily when she comes into the bathroom to try to cheer him up.
* {{Tomboy}}: Given that Ash is a gender bended boy, he dresses accordingly. But sometimes he is put into [[DraggedIntoDrag drag]].
* TroubledButCute: To a degree, given the MissingMom and emotionally distant dad (and of course the CosmicRetcon...)
* {{Tsundere}}: Mix of A and B, though more often A since it's not common to see Ash become mushy and sweet.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: Very much so. From both of the significant women in his life, Emily Mc Arthur, and Missi Fuller, he's stated to be sweet, sensitive, and very, very observant.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Ash is scared of babies, or more specifically ''Kate's'' baby, Harry.
* WouldNotHitAGirl: Minor BSOD when Ash punches a girl in the face, after she hit him twice, something he would have never done prior to the misfile, and something Emily had already lampshaded as being tantamount to surrendering his manhood.
* WrenchWench: Girl-Ash was called "Crazy Car Girl". Harry calls Ash an excellent amateur mechanic.
* YaoiFangirl[=/=]YuriFan: Girl-Ash was apparently the prior, so logically Ash himself is the latter.
* YouOweMe: Combined with RageBreakingPoint and BerserkerTears. Rumi takes Ash saying that (s)he doesn't want to lose memories of life as f-Ash as Ash backing off on getting the misfile fixed. When Ash points out that this is not the case and actually wants the Misfile fixed, while keeping those precious memories, Rumi tries to go to the default of "the files don't work that way." Ash flips out completely stating [[PunctuatedForEmphasis "You! Owe! Me!"]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Emily [=McArthur=]]]
The girl who has to repeat two years of her life.
----
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Emily's basic M.O. throughout the comic but really comes to the fore in the arc centered around her first race where she reads up on psychology in order to rattle her opponent.
* BadassDriver: Gets her own moment when she beats Heather.
%%* BewareTheNiceOnes
* [[CallingTheOldManOut Calling The Old Woman Out]]: After Ms. [=McArthur=] [[spoiler:goes to the hospital with heart palpitations due to her use of '''speed'''. Ms. [=McArthur=] claiming it's for the sake of being able to send Emily to college [[BerserkButton doesn't help her case]]]], as [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2014-11-24 shown here.]]
* CharacterDevelopment: She becomes more understanding of Ash, as she originally considered her problem to be worse. [[spoiler:Near the end of the comic, Ash and Emily are in the Celestial Filing Depository and Ash finds Emily's missing pages. Emily has the chance to correct the Misfile. What does she do? She destroys the pages. As she finds her new life better than her original life.]]
* CleavageWindow: Several of her outfits include this.
* DeadManWalking: [[spoiler:Were it not for the misfile, she'd most likely have died when Molly's car got T-boned in chapter 6.]]
* DisappearedDad: Since she's the result of a TeenPregnancy.
* GirlPosse: Former member of Molly's posse.
* HeelRealization: While not a villain per se, Emily has historically had issues truly grasping how bad the titular Misfile has affected Ash mentally and emotionally and in some cases dismissed Ash's feelings of wrongness in "her" current situation. Until she finds herself having to explain to her mother that [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2015-11-05 it's important to her that she not pretend to be something she isn't.]] [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2015-11-06 To her credit she picks up on it almost immediately after being in the same situation.]]
* InsecureLoveInterest: Her lack of experience with normal romantic relationships and the fact that her and Ash's relationship is not a normal one make her pretty insecure. Becomes more obvious when Ash meets a guy that Emily thinks might be a better match for Ash than she is.
* OfficialCouple: With Ash.
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: She obsessively studied to get into Harvard, because of her EducationMama. This makes her extremely knowledgeable and very smart. There is, however, a problem with this: she has several social problems because she hasn't done any socializing in her past life.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Ash. Emily has repeatedly stated that she's not attracted to girls, just Ash. And Ash isn't a girl.
* WhamLine: After stumbling upon her mother's file while working in Dr. Upton's office, she informs Ash that she can't simply pretend she didn't read it.
-->"She had cancer, Ash."
* YouAreGrounded: This incapacitates her for at least an entire chapter. [[CallingTheOldManOut This turns out to be the best way for her mother to lose Molly's respect]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Missi Fuller]]
A high school freshman who loves cars and Ash, not necessarily in that order.
----
* ACupAngst: At least until she gets the impression that [[PetitePride Ash prefers small breasts]].
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Sometimes, though as Kate said, she grows on you.
* BigEater: Doesn't do a thing for her chest, much to her chagrin.
* ChildProdigy: Even though she's not old enough to even go to Driver's Ed, she is an excellent amateur mechanic and an expert welder capable of making no-chafe chain shirts from a discarded soda can pull-tabs.
* ChineseGirl: Albeit only by ancestry, since she's Tom's ''adopted'' sister. She also doesn't know martial arts.
%%* GenkiGirl: From time to time.
* GirlishPigtails: She has a couple of very short pigtails.
* GoodBadGirl: Missi is exceptionally curious about sex in general and Ash in particular. To wit, even though she does do her best to respect Ash's boundaries, she has tried to peek at Ash in the shower, being chagrined when Ash turns her down, gotten jealous when Emily got to see Ash nude first (Missi makes a fair distinction between nude and naked), and was palpably disappointed when the curtain fell closed (thanks to Rumisiel) on Emily's window just before Ash and Emily were about to have sex. Further, she has no compunction about openly discussing sex with Ash in public.
* GracefulLoser: She is surprisingly okay with missing out on being Ash's OfficialCouple. The fact that Ash doesn't play favorites, and still dotes on her, albeit in a purely platonic manner, helps immensely.
* GroinAttack: To Sheldon. The guy really had it coming, and he was warned.
* HappilyAdopted: Zigzagged. She is adopted, and she knows it, however, she is generally not happy in the Fuller family. Although she's getting food, clothing, and shelter, she knows she's not being given anywhere near the affection that her Jerkass brother, Tom, gets.
* HiddenDepths: Which are gradually unveiled over the course of the story.
* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: She's one of the {{trope namer}}s (and provides the page image) due to saying this nearly verbatim during a DreamSequence in which she suddenly possessed a rack equal in size to Ash's.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: Deconstructed; the fact that Ash does interest her romantically (alone among all girls) is the cause of quite a bit of heartache for her.
* OfficialCouple: It is strongly implied that if not for Ash's Misfile, she would be this for Ash. Even though it's purely platonic, Ash ''still'' dotes on her.
* ThePrankster: She loves to be petty and mess with Tom's stuff, like tying his boxers and socks in knots.
* ReplacementGoldfish: When she feared that she might be this to Ash because Emily was unavailable, she had an epic breakdown. Ash, for his part, was all too happy to cheer her up by proving her wrong, [[NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished and they very nearly]] [[RapeAsDrama paid dearly for it]].
%%* RomanticFalseLead: To Ash.
* SiblingRivalry: She clearly does ''not'' get along with her brother Tom, at all.
* SpoiledBrat: She is pampered and a brat in the "throw money at her until she shuts up" kind of way, where she could do whatever she wanted as long as it wasn't illegal, and her adoptive parents didn't have to get involved outside of writing a check. She is still a very sweet, sensitive, and decent person.
* StepfordSmiler: Underneath that GenkiGirl exterior lies a lonely, insecure, and very, very scared little girl.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She certainly has no problems with wearing girly colors, skirts or other stereotypically feminine apparel, and she certainly appreciates things like candlelit moments and the like. That said, her main hobby ''is'' building cars, and she's more prone to engine grease on her face than makeup.
* TheUnfavorite: The Fullers are much more interested in Tom and his college career, and Missi notes that they often leave her alone to spend time with him.
* WrenchWench: She doesn't have her license yet, and yet she's already capable of putting together quality racing vehicles (she was the one responsible for all of Tom's cars). What's more, she's so good at welding, she can make a chain shirt out of discarded soda can ring-tops, and the shirt doesn't chafe!
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dr. Edward Upton]]
Ash's father, a divorced gynecologist. Surprisingly chill about several strangers crashing in his home.
----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: It's not enough that he memorizes women's vaginas, due to his job as a gynecologist... it's the fact that he'll ''describe'' them for everyone in earshot at the drop of a hat.
* {{Blackmail}}: Of sorts - to make sure that Ms. [=MacArthur=] doesn't prohibit Emily from spending time with Ash, he notes that he could really help Emily get into Harvard, as he knows several people there. But he'd really only go that far for his daughter's friends.
* ControlFreak: The reason that Ash's mother left him. Matured out of this for the current timeline. He matured out of it in ''both'' timelines; the difference lies in how he treats his child. As a boy, Ash was given the cold shoulder by his emotionally distant father; as a girl, she gets a DotingParent out of the deal. Besides the relationship element, Edward probably sees even more of Marie in girl-Ash, hence his more affectionate manner. Indeed: he seems quite upset about how distant he and Ash have been since the misfile (which is no less than they were when Ash was male), and openly comments on it. Ash, of course, is too uncomfortable to really reply.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: He might not have ''known'' that Ramael's an angel, but standing up to the guy (mysterious stranger with shady look about him, anyone?) was still pretty badass of Dr. Upton. Ash, and even Vashiel, were both gobsmacked and awed by it.
* DirtyOldMan: Though he doesn't seem to be older than late-thirties.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's perfectly comfortable acting like a perv or performing blackmail... that said, he is a loving father and even tries to help Rumisiel grow up.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: [[spoiler: His actual intent behind giving Rumisiel a bunch of manual labor chores during summer break.]]
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Even his ex-wife admits that he has his good moments... he's just pretty distant from most people. He shows it best with his interactions with Emily, as he tries his best to encourage the friendship between her and Ash.
* UltimateJobSecurity: He might be creepy, but he's apparently just that damn good at gynecology.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Molly]]
Emily's longtime best friend.
----
* [[CallingTheOldManOut Calling The Old Woman Out]]: Though it's Emily's mother, not her own, that's on the receiving end. She then reveals that she was going to do it anyway before leaving for college, and Ms. [=McArthur's=] abrasiveness toward her own daughter has provided her with an opportunity to let loose what she ''really'' thinks of Emily's [[MyBelovedSmother beloved smother]].
* CharacterDevelopment: Goes from AlphaBitch to LovableAlphaBitch
* LovableAlphaBitch: She's a very popular girl, and not always the nicest, but she obviously cares about Emily.
* NearDeathExperience: She was [[spoiler:in a horrible car wreck the night before she was set to leave for college that resulted in a badly-broken leg and having to postpone matriculation. It is stated explicitly that had it not been for the misfile, Emily probably would have been sitting in the passenger seat – closest to the impact and completely crumpled – and died.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Colin]]

----
%%* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome
* DoggedNiceGuy: Acts like this, and is rather crushed when Ash isn't interested. Also gets [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2011-01-25 told off]] by Heather at Cassiel's party for Eponine.
* StalkerWithACrush: Gives off the vibe, but he only is that way when Ash comes to the store
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Tom Fuller]]
Missi's big brother and Ash's unfriendly rival in racing.
----
* AloofOlderBrother: Has some elements towards Missi.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: He's strong enough to literally pick up and throw Ash out of his room.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Though he's a major jerk to everyone, especially Ash, and to a lesser extent Missi, even he was bent out of shape at the way their parents let Missi do whatever she wants as long as it's not illegal and keeps them from being involved outside of writing checks.
* FullFrontalAssault: The literally throwing Ash out of his bedroom? He does that buck naked.
* {{Jerkass}}: He needlessly antagonizes Ash at every opportunity, letches on multiple girls at his family's Halloween party, and the closest he ever shows to a redeeming feature is wanting to protect his sister... from Ash, but only because he's an asshole towards Ash.
* JerkJock: Though more regarding racing, but yeah, he otherwise fits the criteria.
* NeverMyFault: As is the case with many JerkJock bullies and assholes, he insists that his insults, especially to Ash, are "what everybody else is thinking, but too chicken to actually say out loud." He doesn't take it well when Ash points out the glaring flaw in that "logic."
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Hasn't happened (yet), but would if Missi reveals if she did all the work on his car.
* TheRival: He was Ash's while at High School, though even now he's the one driver who could be called his/her ArchEnemy.
* ParentalFavoritism: Strong indications that he's favored over his sister, Missi.
* PutOnABus: Sent off to college.
* ShamelessFanserviceGuy: He doesn't even try to cover himself when he walks out of the shower, right in front of Ash and Missi. Though it's clearly not for titillation, but just to try and shock and humiliate both girls, [[ForTheLulz just because]].
* StarterVillain: Not ''villain'' per se, but he fits the general criteria.
* StrawMisogynist: Has elements of this, though it could just be a hatred of Ash.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: (Kamikaze) ]]
Also known as Kate [[spoiler:Walsh]].

An excellent racer with a chip on her shoulder, who is at least a little insane. Eventually comes to see Ash as a WorthyOpponent.
----
* AxCrazy: At first - she was quite ready to run anyone who got in her way off the road. She still has a severe demeanor that multiple people fear that this still applies.
* BadassDriver: Acknowledged to be the best in the cast. It was considered an incredible performance when Ash had a chance at winning their second race.
* BloodKnight: Racing version - she would do everything in her power to humiliate anyone who raced the old road in her misguided drive for vengeance.
* BrokenBird: Kate wasn't even the best driver in her family, not did she seem that interested in becoming the best. When her sister died, though, she became consumed with the desire to get vengeance on everyone else behind the wheel.
* TheComicallySerious: Funniest when she is completely serious
* CoolBigSis: Develops into this, of sorts. Mind you, she still scares the crap out of Ash.
* DeathSeeker: At first - it's not until Rumisiel [[spoiler:exorcises her sister's soul]] that she discovers joy in anything and wants to live again.
* DefrostingIceQueen: The aftermath of her second race with Ash has her realizing that there are things to enjoy in life, and she starts growing closer to multiple people. As her interactions with Missi show, however, she's still not Captain Cuddles.
* TheDreaded: Her reputation in Tempest, which hasn't quite faded yet even though [[spoiler:Rumisiel exorcised her sister's soul.]]
* HappilyMarried: Her and [[spoiler:Harry]].
* MsFanservice: In her Princess Leia costume, at Halloween.
* RedBaron: "Kamikaze Kate".
* ReplacementGoldfish: All but asked Ash to be her sister, and plenty of hints that she still sees Ash this way.
* SpiritedCompetitor: Figuratively and literally.
* {{Tsundere}}: Of the non-love interest variety towards Ash.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: She flat out said this about herself to Ash to convince her to babysit little Harry while she and her husband go on a date, while her hands are dangerously close to Ash's throat.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Harry Walsh]]
Runs an auto store in town where many local racers (particularly Ash) get parts.
----
* DeadpanSnarker: Examples such as being concerned about what would happen if Kate entered a church, and when Ash needed to back out for him to get out.
* FunetikAksent: Apparently meant to be Welsh.
* HappilyMarried: Looks to be that way with [[spoiler:Kate.]]
* KirkSummation: Gives one to Heather that makes it stop for a moment.
* NiceGuy: He's in PerpetualPoverty, yet he still charges reasonable rates to his customers.
* PerpetualPoverty: Mentioned that he had some issues making ends meet.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: Supposedly Welsh, but [[LampshadeHanging noted in-story]] as being nigh-impossible to place.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Eponine]]
A fairly normal girl in Ash's class. Unintentionally becomes intertwined in the plot.
----
* AscendedExtra: Originally just a friend from Ash's Gym Class, who showed up every once in a while. Now, she's become a fairly important plot character.
* MoralityPet: Ever since befriending Cassiel, the angel has been getting less and less selfish.
* NiceGirl: Which is noted - Ash remembers her as one of the few girls who was genuinely kind and friendly towards him/her, and she manages to avoid being a doormat despite her sweet nature. She's also apparently the only human Cassiel shows genuine regard for.
* PalsWithJesus: Although she doesn't know Cassiel is an angel, her friendship with Cassiel is genuinely a friendship, in contrast with Ash and Emily's 'friendship' with Rumisiel, where Ash is just waiting for Rumi to correct the Misfile.
* TokenBlack: Kind of, seeing as there aren't any other dark-skinned characters of importance. Still, given the centralized cast, it's not really very jarring - especially since she's ''not'' a stereotyped character.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Gives one to Ash for not trusting Logan about the pictures, and not talking to her about it.
** When Ash finally tries to make amends ''weeks'' later, it turns out 'Nine had let it go after only a few days and is quite willing to forgive. NiceGirl? Without a ''doubt''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: James]]
Ash's old friend and mentor. And, in the reordered Misfile reality, a bit more…
----
* BadassDriver: Ash is better, but he did teach Ash to race and drive.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: He winds up married to F-Ash, Ash's OppositeSexClone.]]
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Like most people, he isn't told about the misfile, which results in heartbreak as "his" Ash acts different from the one he "remembers".
* LoveMakesYouDumb: Had he not been so manic while racing Ash, who knows if he would have lost.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: At first, though justified because he thought that Rumsiel was just a jerk.
* PutOnABus: Disappeared for over a thousand strips after the Cape Cod race.
* RelationshipUpgrade: Played with, it seems that girl-Ash's 'fun' with him that one night in the car caused James to interpret that as such. Unfortunately for him, the Misfiled Ash we know wants to keep him as her best friend. [[spoiler:After the misfile is resolved, it happens for real between him and girl-Ash.]]
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Not only was James the best friend of boy-Ash, it's revealed that girl-Ash even lost her virginity to him. Unfortunately, the misfiled Ash is squicked out by this. [[spoiler:Subverted after the misfile is resolved.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Logan]]

----
* AnimeHair: His spiky hair was even the source of his fan nickname!
* AuraVision: Logan can tell the difference between humans and angel, without the angel needing to reveal themselves.
* BadassDriver: Despite never racing before, he's very naturally gifted and proved a challenge for Ash, a more experienced racer.
* BadassPacifist: Logan manages to save Ash and Missi from their NearRapeExperience, not by beating the pulp out of the two would be rapists, but by taking a picture and threatening that he'd run and tell the cops if they wouldn't leave... He just moments later reveals to the two his phone battery was dead, and he wasn't all that fast a runner.
* BigDamnHeroes: Shows up when Ash and Missi are being threatened by two older men who aren't particular about consent.
* JustInTime: Saved Ash and Missi from a NearRapeExperience.

[[folder: Marie Upton]]
Ash's semi-estranged mother, who works in the fashion industry.
----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: She's a former lingerie model and is a little bit ''too'' pleased that Ash takes after her in the body department, constantly asking Ash to model.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: She's very well endowed, likely part of why she was a successful [[FanserviceModel lingerie model]]. It's obvious she's where Ash gets it from.
* MissingMom: Discussed. Marie left Edward when Ash was little, leaving Ash to be raised by a single father, who only showed Ash a photograph of her many years later. Boy-Ash had zero contact with his mother beyond that photo… and was shocked to find that in the Misfiled universe, Girl-Ash had more contact with her. The divergence happened four years prior to the beginning of the story – both had written a letter to her, but Girl-Ash sent the letter, while Boy-Ash ripped it up because it made him feel 'like a sissy boy'.
* MyGirlIsASlut: She met Edward Upton in a wild night, including a ''threesome''! When she was about eighteen... or less. Early in the story, when Ash is seventeen, she says "Wasn't my Mom about my age when you got HER pregnant?"
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Prepares breakfast for Ash, Emily, Rumisiel, and James wearing lingerie. She's also featured prominently in racy catalogs and markets feminine undergarments in a very risque manner.
* WantedAGenderConformingChild: She constantly pesters Ash to be more feminine (and may have done so to a lesser degree ''before'' boy Ash's mind was transferred to the altered reality). Most of the times Ash [[ThirdLawOfGenderBending ends up in feminine apparel]], it's part of a bargain with his mother for some material gain.

[[folder: Ms. [=McArthur=]]]
Emily's mother, easily the biggest antagonist in the story who isn't an angel or a racer. Obsessed with the Ivy League. Does '''''not''''' like Ash.
----
* BrokenPedestal: Emily is pretty shocked when she discovers that [[spoiler:her mother has been using stimulants to maintain her job performance.]]
* EducationMama: Ms. [=McArthur=] pretty much has an obsession with seeing Emily go to an Ivy League school. She prefers Harvard, although she's at least willing to consider seven other options.[[note]] The other official Ivy schools are Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Columbia, U-Penn, and Cornell.[[/note]]
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:She shows some unexpected appreciation and insight about cars, as she reveals when she sees the classic Mustang Emily received from Ash's winning against Burt - her father actually owned a car of the same kind when she was a girl. Emily states the next day that they talked for a good while, her mother giving Emily insight into her grandparents.]]
* KickTheDog: She actually ''yells'' at Emily and tears her a new one (a whole ''lot'' of new ones, in fact) for running away. [[CallingTheOldManOut This unusually abrasive act costs her Molly's respect in nothing flat]].
* LastNameBasis: Her first name has not been stated. All that's known is that it starts with E (Emily briefly worked in Dr. Upton's office - she saw a file marked "E. [=McArthur=]" and at first thought it was hers).
* MyBelovedSmother: Pretty much the degree Ms.M takes that whole 'Education Mama' thing. This eventually reaches the point where Molly [[CallingTheOldManOut yells at her]] to go [[PrecisionFStrike fuck]] herself for grounding Emily in a fit of utter rage, then revealing that she was about to vent her feelings toward her anyway since she was about to go to college and Ms. [=McArthur's=] going off on her own daughter has given her such an exceptional opportunity.
* TeenPregnancy: She got pregnant with Emily in high school, which was why she didn't end up going to Harvard herself.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Dave]]
An antagonist who met Ash in a diner after Ash was teaching Missi how to drive in a parking lot. He provokes Ash at every opportunity.
----
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: Literally. He jumps out of his car and starts antagonizing Adam. Adam responds by pinching his index finger and breaking every bone in his arm, to the shoulder. That's gotta hurt!
* CombatPragmatist: The road he challenges Ash to race on? Booby-trapped with tire-killing spikes, caltrops, and other nasty things.
* DeathGlare: Ash and Missi see him giving them one in a diner, for no explained reason. When Missi tries to find out why, Dave responds by insulting both their driving ability and gender, and then demanding a race with Ash when Ash tries to walk away.
* EverythingIsRacist: He once claimed that the government "stole" his family's land purely because of his skin color. The official tax records have a different story.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Combined with DickDastardlyStopsToCheat. He's spent so much time and energy sabotaging "his" road, that he never bothered to do the proper maintenance to keep it drivable, so when he tries to muscle Ash off the road, despite having a good chance of winning honestly, he hits a ditch, at a high rate of speed, and flips his own car.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He loves verbally abusing people, especially "bitches" like Ash, going out of his way to "make them cry" by trampling their sensibilities, but when it's mentioned that the land the government "stole" from him was stolen by his family first, he goes full-tilt IllKillYou.
* PsychologicalProjection: He hates and accuses Ash of a great many things that apply to himself, such as being pampered with high-end sports-cars, entitled, haughty, and arrogant. Yet, it's revealed his parents gifted him with his sports-car, [[spoiler: leased out the land "his" road is on, after getting it as a grant from the government, ignored their tax bills, and openly rebuffed any and all attempts by the government to peacefully redress the situation.]]
* StrawMisogynist: He hates women, without exception, for no explained reason. He takes the fact that Ash is a talented racer as a personal affront.
* TokenMinority: Aside from Eponine, he's the only cast member of color in the comic.
* TooDumbToLive: While Ash wisely stays in car, ''thanking God'' for being able to walk away from an otherwise lethal car crash, Dave jumps out of his car, despite there being a large bull in the road, and goes full-tilt UngratefulBastard, [[NeverMyFault trying to blame Adam for causing the collision in the first place.]] Guess you didn't need that arm much, right, Dave?
[[/folder]]

[[folder: F-Ash]]
The version of Ash that would have existed had Ash been born a girl.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: It's not quite clear if Misfiled-Ash's behavior over the course of the story is a natural evolution of her character that would have happened if this was the "right" timeline, or if M-Ash (from the world's perspective) supplanted her personality. People comment on how Ash used to be different, but don't seem especially distraught or to find it unusual.
* CheerfulChild: Ash's father notes that "she" used to be this until recently, in contrast to M-Ash's timeline.
* ForWantOfANail: Had on the whole a much better relationship with her parents than M-Ash did, because she had the nerve to send the letter to her mother, whereas M-Ash did not.
* TheGhost: Technically, she's not actually a character, since she doesn't (and never did) exist, but she still plays a significant role in the story because everyone else thinks that Misfile-Ash is her, and remembers things she did that our protagonist never did.
* InventedIndividual: Never existed, but (almost) everyone on Earth thinks she did.
* ItsAWonderfulPlot: Part of Misfile-Ash's angst comes from recognizing that F-Ash's existence did make the world a better place, and not wanting to reset things back to the way they were, despite also really wanting to become a man again.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Spoiler Character from Chapter 31. [[spoiler: Also F-Ash]]]]
The female version of Ash, given proper existence. Created by a deliberate misfile from Rummi so Ash could get his just reward for helping save the universe.
----
* ExperimentedInCollege: Well, technically high school, but depending on how much of the story was or wasn't {{retconned}} when Rummi performed his bureaucratic trickery, she very well might have.
* HalfIdenticalTwins: She's female, while Ash is male, and they have the same birthdate.
* HappilyMarried: Married to James, and it's a perfect match, at least according to Rummi.
* OppositeSexClone: Though she's not aware of it. She exists [[https://www.misfile.com/misfile/2019-08-21 because]] Rummi went through the trouble of photocopying Ash's file, scratched out all references to "boy," which is what his bosses would have done to Ash's file, and put her in the "girl" cabinet, so all of Ash's hard work would not be erased by a CosmicRetcon.
* StealingTheCredit: By her very existence, all of Ash's previous accomplishments are credited to her. Ash doesn't care, because he gets to enjoy his reward.

An angel who had a tendency to fail at his job (including causing the titular Mis-file), which is why he's stuck on Earth.
----
* TheAtoner: Somewhat halfheartedly at first, but he has recently started to become more proactive in his role.
* BadassBoast: Rumisiel has [[http://www.misfile.com/index.php?page=986 one]].
%%* BewareTheNiceOnes
* ChivalrousPervert: He has no problems playing eroge (they're Ash's games, so Ash has no problems with that either), reading porn, and once boasted about getting an eyeful of Ash's lower regions when Ash was GoingCommando as an alternative to a particularly uncomfortable thong, and had a high heel break, taking a tumble wearing a very revealing dress. Also, Rummi has stared down the cleavage of women on occasion. Still, Rumisiel magically closes the curtain when Ash and Emily are about to have sex for the first time, to Missi's chagrin, addresses a lingerie-clad Marie, Ash's mother, by either looking her in the eyes, or admiring the food she prepared, while [[SourPrude James]], is slack-jawed and nose-bleeding, and genuinely acts like a decent ''human'' being, the majority of the time.
* DeadpanSnarker: Rumisiel sometimes gets some true gems. [[http://www.misfile.com/index.php?page=1588 See here]].
* EruditeStoner: Whenever Rumisiel isn't unconscious, puking or whimpering, you can tell that he's [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld Really An Ancient, Wise, Angelic Being]]. Of course, until Ash harangued him off booze and drugs at the beginning of the story, he used to spend thirty percent of his time doing each of those, so he spends a steadily decreasing percentage of his time whimpering or just slacking off.
* FalseDichotomy: Combined with PerfectSolutionFallacy. From the beginning, Rumi has insisted that "correcting" the Misfile one way or another would cause permanent irreversible changes with the recipient of said correction completely losing all memory of what came before, both in events and the previous state of the file. He uses this as an excuse to do nothing at all, and constantly tries to get both Ash and Emily to accept this state of affairs. While Emily's file is far more stable, [[DeadManWalking and has a very valid reason to leave it alone]], Ash's misfile continues to become more unstable with each passing moment, and has drawn the attention of various dangerous super-powered entities. As such, both Ash and Emily ''insist'' that Rumi find a way.
* HiddenDepths: When he explains how he ''really'' felt about his job and why he screwed up, he becomes somewhat more sympathetic both to viewers and to Ash (as much as he ''can'' be, at any rate).
* LoopholeAbuse:
** [[spoiler: Throws a file cabinet at Xaphrael, which the latter slices in half. This allows Vashiel to break his seal, because Xaphrael just demonstrated that he's a clear and present threat to the filing system.]]
** [[spoiler: Creates a copy of Ash's file, scratches out all references to "boy" and puts it in the "girl" cabinet so Ash's exploits don't get erased and then uses Post-It notes on the original file, so his memories aren't erased either. Thus finding the "perfect solution."]] His brother Vashiel is horrified when he finds out.
* MundaneUtility:
** Rumisiel is an angel, and you'd expect him to have some kind of awesome holy weapon for smiting the heathens, right? Wrong. He works in filing, so he gets a "filing multi-tool" that "does all sorts of neat records-keeping stuff. It scans, records, photographs. The newest upgrade even has web access." Wait... 314--->'''Ash''': ''You probably just use it to [[TheInternetIsForPorn look at porn]].''\

'''Ash''': '''''Let me see your bookmarks!'''''\
'''Rumisiel''': '''''No! I'm sending it back to the ether! It's not for mortal eyes!'''''
** [[spoiler:That multi-tool turns out to be his own access key into the filing depot. He apparently never noticed it because he's always had it on him, thus giving him the impression that the doors opened for him on their own accord.]]
* NailedToTheWagon: After an early incident where his attempt at doing good deeds resulted in a drunken bender, Ash bans him from partaking of alcohol or drugs.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: While he ''can'' generally be a bit of a moron, much of the time he acts like a nuisance when Ash is in a sour mood, he's actually hoping for Ash to vent his/her frustration on Rumi as a coping mechanism. [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] by Rumisiel [[http://www.misfile.com/index.php?page=1817 here]].
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He's like all others in the series - humanoid form, pointy ears, white hair, has wings and a halo that he can hide, apparently has some vague power that keeps most from immediately recognizing what he is.
* PermaStubble: To highlight his slacker nature, it perennially looks like he has about a day's worth of stubble.
* PointyEars: One of the hallmarks of the supernatural in the series.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: His precise age isn't known, but it's in the centuries. He does say [[http://www.misfile.com/misfile/2004-03-07 437 years old]], among other details when introducing himself initially.
* ToxicFriendInfluence: Feels he was being this for Cassiel, which is why he broke up with her. [[spoiler:Turns out to be inverted when Cassiel makes her appearance, and starts being catty.]]

''[[http://www.misfile.com/?page=136 My name is Vashiel of the second order of holy swords, divine punishment division. I am here to see Rumisiel. Is he here ?]]''

Rumisiel's loving big brother. He takes an administrative leave after Rumi was kicked out of Heaven to come to Earth and to help him get back. Since he is incapable of telling a lie, he is kept in the dark about Ash and Emily's little problem.
----
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:For past misdeeds unknown to his little brother.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Vashiel is polite almost to the point of painfulness to nearly everyone he meets. However, when Cassiel hints about messing with Rumisiel, he responds with a threat to make it such that even her uncle - {{Satan}} - couldn't protect her. And he CannotTellALie - he means every word.
* BigBrotherInstinct: See above - threatening Rumisiel is the quickest way to get Vashiel into business mode. And remember, his business is vengeance.
* CannotTellALie: To the extreme - not only can he not tell a lie, he tells the truth in its entirety even if it would be better not to. He literally cannot hide falsehood nor details. It's likely the only reason he hasn't been locked away is because nothing he's said is ''too'' outlandish... and because his brother is there to prevent such from happening.
** [[spoiler:Averted near the end of the comic. During the fight with Xaphrael, his bonds become broken in order to make the fight more even, his powers are restored and he now has the ability to lie. 339* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:He was once a hot-headed sort that committed some amount of devastation and likely murder over what he deemed to be insufficient respect from humans. He was punished for the indiscretion, but details have yet to be forthcoming.]]
* FishOutOfWater: He's noticeably not ''quite'' as well-adapted to life on Earth as his brother.
* FlamingSword: Has one, which was only shown in flashback.
* GoodIsNotDumb: It's a ''punishment angel'', for Heaven sake!
* IncompatibleOrientation: He's in love with Ash. Ash prefers girls. Rumisiel notes that this technically applies [[GenderBender both ways]] regarding the two, although he doesn't clarify for Vash beyond "she's not your type."
* InverseLawOfUtilityAndLethality: Vashiel is an Angel of Vengeance, and is endowed with a [[FlamingSword Flaming]] [[InfinityPlusOneSword Holy Sword]] that can even kill other angels. He hasn't done any "[[http://www.misfile.com/index.php?page=141 really good smiting]]" in centuries, so all he really uses it for is scaring televangelists.
* KnightTemplar: In his backstory - [[spoiler: apparently he destroyed a city and smote many people, for which he was punished by the Celestial Bureaucracy. For his part, Vashiel believes the punishment was right and just.]]
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Justified - if he knew about the misfile, he'd be compelled by his compulsive honesty to report it. If he reported it, Rumisiel would get a permanent exile from heaven and the bosses would change the files so as to make the misfile permanent.
** [[spoiler:Rumisiel comes clean in Book 31 about the Misfile, putting him into the Loop. However, he is able to lie now so he has said he can keep the secret if needed]]
* NiceGuy: Absurdly so. [[spoiler:He has a DarkAndTroubledPast, but has for the most part moved past it and seems genuinely well-adjusted these days.]]
* {{Nosebleed}}: Quite prone to them.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He's like all others in the series - humanoid form, pointy ears, white hair, has wings and a halo that he can hide, apparently has some vague power that keeps most from immediately recognizing what he is.

----
* AllTheOtherReindeer: Turns out she has damn good reason to be an AlphaBitch. Because her uncle, whom she never met, is Satan, she's been horribly discriminated against. For a very brief time, her relationship with Rummi was an oasis of affection in the bleak desert of her life, until Rummi was forced to dump her. As she says herself.
--> "You got a few hundred good years before you fell into your existential crisis. '''I was born into mine.'''"
%%* AlphaBitch
%%* BeleagueredBureaucrat
* ButtMonkey: First played straight, then deconstructed. At first, she was a pest that was hilariously incompetent at pretty much every attempt to make the main character miserable, despite the fact that she's an angel who is much more competent with her powers than Rumisiel. She's literally Satan's niece, but she seems more like a SitcomArchNemesis than anything. However, it's eventually subverted when it's revealed that she's literally been treated like crap for her entire existence because of her uncle, and a large part of her adversarial (pun intended) nature is a reaction to this.
* CastingCouch: Rumisiel claims that she used their relationship (and connections with his father, the ArchangelGabriel) to get a job in the CelestialBureaucracy.
* CharacterDevelopment: Early on, she was a foil to Rumisiel and Ash. Trying to break up their relationship. Later on, [[spoiler: she calls out Vashiel for disliking her originally just due to being {{Satan}}'s niece, even though she never met him. Showing that she is much more than a foil and has feelings. 370** Although she did [[spoiler:convince James to fake being in a relationship with her to try and make Ash jealous and stir up Rumisiel]]. [[spoiler:It doesn't go anywhere - Ash's attempts to "feel happy for him" make James feel guilty for doing it, and he informs Cassi than he's ending the charade just before cheerfully slamming the door in her face.]]
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* MasterOfIllusion: While all angels can appear as normal humans, Cass is the only one to bother to. Rumi is just bad at it, and it's hinted that Vash's [[CannotTellALie compulsive honesty]] prevents him from doing so.
* MoralityPet: Eponine is this to her.
* NotHyperbole: She really is Satan's niece.
%%* OurAngelsAreDifferent
* PetTheDog: Whatever she thinks of other people, human or angel, she genuinely cares about Eponine.
%%* PointyEars
* PokeThePoodle: The closest she ever gets into making Rumisiel and Vashiel's life harder was when she snuck into a wedding the attended and... ''served them sub-par hors d'oeuveres''. And it's worth noting that even pulling that off resulted in getting put through the metaphorical ringer by a human woman.
* PowerPerversionPotential: Heavily hinted to have explored this with Rumisiel; her usual disguise is confirmed to be the one she used to use when role-playing with him.
%%* PsychoExGirlfriend
%%* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld
* SerialEscalation: Doubles as a FatalFlaw. Rumisiel, of all people, points out that's her biggest problem in the latest update. When the high school staff finds out a way to drain the makeshift aquarium "prank" she used to block a hallway, she comes back saying that ''next time'' she'll use sharks. Even though the prank was supposed to be a one-time deal, and was universally praised by the senior class.
* ShapeShifterDefaultForm: Of the "preferred form" sort; even though she [[InformedAbility is said]] to be capable of many different illusiory forms, she sticks to the one, even when it'd make more sense to try another (such as when she tried to fool Rumisiel the first time).
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: She definitely is ''not'' thrilled to be helping out Rumisiel when the "dead archon" situation starts to escalate. She does agree to, mostly because, as Rumi points out, he either succeeds and she becomes the hero of Oversight or he fails and she gets to bask in his humiliation. [[spoiler: He's right, and the former does in fact happen.]]
* ThrowTheDogABone: As more of her backstory gets filled in, it's clear that she's effectively the ButtMonkey for the entire celestial hierarchy, solely from her family, and her [[PokeThePoodle petty misdeeds]] result in far more karmic backlash than what she deserves. Also, for all that she ''is'' a jerk, when reality is on the line in the finale, she works with Rumi despite her legit gripes. As such, it's probably not a surprise when [[spoiler: it's revealed in the finale that she's been promoted to the head of her department]].

* NoodleIncident: The reason he got "suspended" was a fight with a guy named Maynard. It was no simple fight, however. The two of them were tearing at each other like rabid animals. Aiden refuses to elaborate [[spoiler:until Maynard's suicide, at which point he confesses to Nil and Carly that they argued over the SadisticChoice of either remaining damned forever, or graduating and being permanently cut off from their former lives.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Nil]]
A girl with horns who is found floating face-down in the river Styx and is then shipped off to Aiden's home.
----
* AmnesiacHero: As a result of being ''spit out'' by the river Styx, she has almost no knowledge of herself. In universe, the fact that she's able to speak is impressive.
* AudienceSurrogate: Since she's almost entirely amnesiac, she has to have ''everything'' about the setting explained to her. This allows the characters to share with the reader things that are common knowledge for them, but alien to the fanbase.
* ADogNamedDog: She chooses to name the Lemure that bonds with her "Lemure".
* FirstKiss: Has hers with [[spoiler:Sharon]], who wanted to make their first night in the "astronomy club" eventful.
* HornedHumanoid: Has horns on her head, and [[spoiler:is immune to the Styx like Sydney]], but she is ''not'' a demon. In fact, the denizens of neither Heaven nor Hell can tell exactly ''what'' she is, and she was apparently born of some kind of fatal system error.
* TooDumbToLive: Not only does she go hopscotching on rocks near the river Styx, but on the shore, when she accidentally steps on a Lemure, a being that can easily give her a FateWorseThanDeath by being EatenAlive, ''she picks up the lemure'', and when it eats her hat, smacks it. For reasons that can not be explained, it decides to be her HeadPet instead.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Carly Blackwell]]
Aiden's sister.
----
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: Suffered a bit of "foot in mouth" disease when she asks why Maynard is back in school, since Aiden's only back because he's sponsoring Nil.
-->"What house-guest does HE have to deal with?"
** She does this again when talking to Sidney about her type of man, even though it was clear she didn't want to. She said that Grecko, a muscle-bound demon, would be her type as long as she was "on top and in charge". What does Sidney do? He tells this to Grecko, and Grecko is thrilled that she thought about him that way, even "bringing the whips and chains".
** This seems to be a character trait with her. [[spoiler:Sleeping with Sidney after he confirmed that Aiden will never have romantic feelings for them. She wakes up next to him and both of them agree that they didn't think about what would happen afterwards.]]
* EverythingIsRacist: Frequently has to deal with this when the devils in her class say it's FantasticRacism to point out that rebelling against God, and trying to drag humanity to damnation, are bad things.
* InsistentTerminology: She and Aiden are "twins" because their birthdays are hours apart and they were born in the same year. Which is to say, Aiden was born on January 1, and Carly was born just hours short of a full year later, on December 31. [[{{Hypocrite}} She freely admits that she would not make this argument if she were the older one]].
* MsExposition: Like Aiden, she serves to fill in the backstory of the characters and setting.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: Which she openly admits and lampshades. She sees her brother, Aiden, sulking on the roof and she "cheers him up" by flipping her skirt in his face.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Combined with TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest, with the Succubus/Incubus Sydney. She was, and still is, deeply sexually attracted to the hermaphroditic demon, but Sydney ''is not'', and never was, attracted to her. Carly believes Sydney just pretended to be, to use her as a bridge to get at her brother Aiden, to whom the demon ''is attracted'', but Aiden does not share the sentiment. [[RashomonStyle However, Sydney's version of events is a tad different]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Sidney/Sydney]]
A succubus/incubus (though preferring to be the former at their current age) who is Aiden's best friend.
----
* IDidntMeanToTurnYouOn: [[RashomonStyle Sydney's perspective on their relationship with Carly]], as they tell Nil, is that they wanted to emulate and impress Aiden since childhood, only realizing too late that it was love and Aiden now just saw them as a friend. Winning (and subsequently breaking) Carly's heart was never their intention.
* GenderBender: In this comic, incubi and succubi are the same thing, and Sydney can shapeshift, including switching his/her gender at will.
* GoneHorriblyRight: Sydney was trying to get Aiden to be with Nil and enjoy meaningless sex. However, s/he didn't expect Aiden to fall in love with Nil and confirming that Aiden doesn't have feelings for Sydney. Admitting that she was most likely helped Aiden towards Nil.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: A visit to their house (after getting lost while scouting the destination of their upcoming field trip) reveals that Syndey's family is quite large, and also that Sydney's the only one attending Hell High due to being the oldest.
* NobleDemon: Certainly claims to be, when protesting Abigail and Carly's portrayal of demons. And he (or she) can be heroic at times, such as when fishing Nil out of the River Styx (though it helps that demons are immune to its effects).
* ReallyGetsAround: Aside from hitting on both Aiden and Nil, they mention having casual sex with a complete stranger as a pick-me-up after a late-night looking for the "star" that's been appearing recently.
* ShapeshiftingSeducer: One of the abilities that all succubus/incubus have is the ability to shapeshift to anyone's perfect type. However, if someone is in love, they will shapeshift into their partner. This confirmed to Sydney that Aiden was in love with Nil.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Although it wouldn't be evident to the characters when spoken aloud, the character's name in speech bubbles is spelled "Sidney" when male but "Sydney" when female.
* SuccubiAndIncubi: You got that Sydney was a succubus/incubus, right?
* TheTease: Sidney's not interested in Carly, but (supposedly) pretended to be in order to get closer to Aiden, and still messes with her occasionally in the present.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Lucrezia Blackwell]]
Aiden's and Carly's mother. Died in the 1500s to Tuberculosis.
----
* {{Determinator}}: [[http://www.misfile.com/hell-high/42220 When she first got to hell]], she built a platform to dig up to try and escape hell. She lost her determination when she wasn't getting anywhere and realized that nobody was trying to stop her. She still shows some Determination in the present, such as continuing to cook with real ingredients despite knowing the outcome will be mush.
* FelonyMisdemeanor: [[http://www.misfile.com/hell-high/2019-09-16 She was sent to hell]] for eating meat on Friday and coveted her neighbor's ass, as in donkey. Nil points out that those aren't bad things but Eddie, her husband, hand waves it saying "it's complicated".
* GladToBeAliveSex: After she relives her death[[note]] All people in hell will relive their death, with the exception of the children as they have never died. In case of Lucrezia, she will relive her death of Tuberculosis and will be a corpse. After a few days she will wake up and return to normal[[/note]], Eddie and her spend days having wild sex.
* HeroicSacrifice: She tells Nil and Carly that she provides them with amenities such as beds and clothes by adding additional years to her sentence in Hell, which she claims is already so long that it's inconsequential. [[spoiler:The truth, which isn't revealed at the time, is implied to be much worse.]]
* LethalChef: More like mushy and bland chef. Due to her being in the first circle of hell, anything that she makes turns to mush without taste. She tells Nil that while she knows everything turns to mush, she still gets a thrill in making it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Eddie Blackwell]]
Aiden's and Carly's father. Died to a cocaine overdose.
----
* FelonyMisdemeanor: He was sent to hell, not of his drug use, but because he never obeyed stop signs or traffic lights (even in school zones).
* HigherUnderstandingThroughDrugs: He is able to give well-rounded thoughts and philosophic talks about life, but [[http://www.misfile.com/hell-high/2019-09-17 he is typically on drugs]] when giving these thoughts.
* SeventiesPornMoustache: Has one, it is implied that he lived in the 70s or 80s due to his looks and his use of cocaine.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ariel]]
An angel attending the same school and class as Aiden and Carly, and their teacher's daughter.
----
* ThePollyanna: Always sees the silver lining in things, such as the constant heat of Hell letting her wear her summer clothes all the time. Most of her classmates, however, consider this trait annoying.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Maynard]]
Aiden's classmate, who he got in a fight with before the start of ''Hell High'', leading to a temporary suspension for them both.
----
* DeadManWriting: [[spoiler:He left an entry for Aiden in his journal before leaping into the Styx.]]
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:Just a few days after returning to school, he decides to throw himself into the Styx, and [[NoBodyLeftBehind his body isn't recovered in time]].]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Abigail]]
Another student in Aiden and Carly's class. She is best friends with Carly, joining her in sneaking to the janitor's office to get unregulated meals from the head custodian.
----
* ReclusiveArtist: She is a fantastic artist but is extremely shy and does not want anyone to know about it.
* IncompatibleOrientation: She is gay and is in love with Carly, but Carly sadly tells her that she is straight.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sharon]]
An abrasive student, who has a rough relationship with her father.
----
* MissingMom: According to her, when she was young, her mother dove into the Styx in a fit of post-partum depression.
* SourSupporter: She's abrasive and incredibly cynical, but [[http://www.misfile.com/hell-high/42920 confirms]] seeing "the star" with Aiden and Nil so they stop doubting themselves, and joins their "astronomy club" to try and find some amusement in futility.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Grecko]]
A demonic classmate.
----
* WalkingShirtlessScene: In all of his (limited) appearances, he's only wearing a chain above his waist, completely exposing his abs.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Charon]]
Sharon's father, and the one who first pulled Nil out of the Styx. He's not actually the ferryman from Greek mythology; he's just the only person in the First Ring of Hell with a functional boat.
----
* TheLostLenore: Sharon speculates that, aside from the privacy, her father spends so much time on his boat to stay near the same waters that claimed his wife.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dinael]]
The angel homeroom teacher of the main student cast, and Ariel's mom. Was appointed to the position by [[spoiler:Cassiel]], for reasons she cannot fathom.
----

* TheCameo: Appears in Misfile: Next [[spoiler:as Cassiel's Secretary.]]
* RevealingCoverup: Is encouraged by other members of the school staff to dismiss recent sightings of "a star" as nonsense. But Lucrezia was once part of a group that was dissuaded from trying to dig out of hell when nobody bothered to stop them; ergo, if the school ''is'' stopping belief in something, it must be important.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Gym Teacher]]
The demonic gym teacher.
----
* CutenessOverload: Has this when putting up the signs to welcome back to the students from their trip. The signs and banners were in fact filled with blood and appeared to be out of a horror movie.
* SadistTeacher: Gains enjoyment from pain, not caring a bit when forcing Aiden and Maynard to pair up in class so soon after their fight, and actively encouraging the students to give each other welts in a dodgeball game.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dennis]]
A transfer student and a Hellborn from the second circle of hell. He transferred to the first circle school after his school closed. At first it was thought to be Maynard due to looking like him. Currently living in the school until he is given his own place to live.
----
* CantSeeADamnThing: It was this way in the second circle of hell. The lighting was so dim that only a few feet would split up people from their loved ones. Can not believe how bright the first circle is.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Appears to be Maynard when he first appeared. However, it is clear from his conversation with Aiden that he doesn't know who Maynard is, however the conversation has been bothering Dennis.
** When Dennis finally sees a picture of Maynard, he is shocked by how alike he is to the point that he feels as if he is looking in a mirror. [[spoiler: He is also shocked at how they have nothing in common.]]
* NewTransferStudent: A transfer student from the 2nd Circle of Hell.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Blank]]
A demon from the second circle of hell with a veil over her face. She is helping Dennis get adjusted to his new school.
----
* ArcVillain: Villian is a tad harsh, but she's the first character to fill a semi-antagonistic role in Hell High. Aiden and Nil spend their time avoiding her finding out about their relationship and its connection to the star.
* BerserkButton: She considers hearing her pre-Fall name, "Enumael"[[labelnote:*]]possibly "Emunael"[[/labelnote]] to be grounds to angrily and threateningly whip out a scythe.
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler:Her breaking point was when she was given an order to physically appear before two abusive drug addicts - and then ''murder their child''. When she killed the addicts instead, the bureaucracy didn't even try to justify the child's impending death, furious that she didn't follow God's plan because it involved murdering a child and then ''enslaving'' their soul in Heaven to fill a nebulous ''quota''. She snapped her halo in two.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Being physically incapable of telling anyone the nature of the star because of her deal with Dex does not stop her from finding any way she can to drop hints and put others on the right track.
* ExactWords: Blank makes a deal with Dex to tell her what he knows about the star on the condition that she can't tell. Knowing that deals in hell are physically binding she still drops the biggest hints she can, since if she is physically able to then it's not in violation of the deal.
* TheFaceless: Her face is behind a veil. She wears this even when taking a bath.
* GiantWoman: Doesn't appear this way until she is right next to other characters, she is in fact very tall. She has to typically bend over to talk with other people.
* InstantCostumeChange: Her outfit is in fact magical. Something Nil found out when talking to her while she was taking a bath in the Styx.
* NoNameGiven: She has not given her name, only to be called Blank. However, it appears Ramael knows who she really is.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: "Dex"]]
The (self-proclaimed) Superintendent of the school.
----
* AppealToAuthority: He shouts down Dinael's protests that it was a consensus of teachers ''accepting reality'' of an unknown light existing in the sky by stating the teachers have no authority, but ''he does'' and because he has authority, he can make the claim that reality is what he says it is, regardless of any empirical evidence.
* DidntSeeThatComing: He honestly didn't see Blank agreeing to his terms so quickly about knowing the truth about the stars in exchange for her not allowed to tell other people. So far this has been backfiring on him as he was unable to detail other finer points like he normally does and allowing a bunch of loopholes he doesn't normally have.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: He wears glasses, is a devil, and cares not one whit about the students, regardless of race.
* ImplausibleDeniability: Despite the lights in hell's sky being common knowledge, he pointedly insists that they don't exist and strait up '''orders''' the teachers to spread the word that they don't.
--> [[PunctuatedForEmphasis "There...Is...No...Light...In...The...Sky.]] I hope I'm making myself clear."
* LawfulStupid: To the point of absurdity. He protests the chain-link fence placed on the cliff overlooking the deadly river Styx designed to keep students from falling in, and demands it be torn down immediately, ''because the last guy who fell off the cliff into the river was a suicide'', and when it comes to the topic of the "star" the teachers were forced to admit exists, due to the fact that '''everyone''' could see it, he rakes Dinael over the coals for admitting it was there.
--> '''Dex''': "Oh, and no more lights in the sky. Whatever possessed you lot to acknowledge such a thing against explicit instructions."
-->'''Dinael''': "It was there. Everyone could see it. Denying it was becoming farcical. What should we have done? Point at it and say there's no light there?"
--> '''Dex''': [[ComicallyMissingThePoint "Yes. That is exactly what you should have done."]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: He doesn't reveal his name during the mandatory assembly he called to declare himself Superintendent, but when Dinael asks who he is in private, while still refusing to give his actual name, he goes "you can call me 'Dex.'"
