!Aki Narukami
[[folder:In general]]
The PlayerCharacter of the game.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: There’s a few hints throughout the game that indicate that they (especially if you choose to play as a girl) may or may not be a demon.
** Miss Library is afraid of humans, but she seems to like Aki because they don't smell human.
** The girl Aki is not hesitant in killing, as shown when she bluntly murdered either Mr. Sohta or Tohma. If you’re playing as the male though, he will hesitate whenever trying to kill Mr. Sohta, saying that he can't because he's his teacher and it will be wrong if he did such a thing. In fact, the female version of Aki apparently forces him to and ends up killing Mr. Sohta anyways, saying that he can do it, "Because you are me. Raise that bat high... And crush him!"
** Speaking of which, when playing as guy Aki, the girl will be able to both talk to her male counterpart and [[DemonicPossession possess him when he had to make the choice of who to kill]].
** Without their contact lenses, it is shown that their true eye color is [[RedEyesTakeWarning red]].
** The creator of the game himself briefly states in the Rec Room that [[ShrugOfGod Aki may or may not be a demon]].
* BatterUp: Their instrument of choice. Useful against flowers, boulders, and people whom Misao holds grudges against.
* CanonName: While you have the option to change their names at the beginning of the game, their default name will always be "Aki" and this is the name the light novel adaptation officially uses to refer to the female protagonist.
* {{Determinator}}: Will stop at nothing in order to save Misao. Male Aki will draw the line at murder, however.
* HelloInsertNameHere: The player can change their name. The developer considered making Male Aki's default name Akito, but decided against it.
* HeroicSacrifice: They attempt this near the end of the game when it's revealed that one more person has to die before Misao can be saved. Onigawara explains that it wouldn't work, since the sacrifice had to be someone Misao wanted dead and Misao has no reason to hate the person who's been trying so hard to help her.
* MinorLivingAlone: They live alone at home with no family to take care of them despite still being in high school.
* ParentalAbandonment: Though this is only revealed in Male!Aki's playthrough, it's confirmed that they don't have a family and that they're likely orphans, as they're shown living alone all by themselves at home in the beginning of the game. This is likely why both of them are highly insistent that they be sacrificed instead of any of Misao's target victims without hesitation: they don't have a family who would miss them if they were gone.
* PlayerCharacter: The main playable characters of ''Misao''.
* RedOniBlueOni: Female!Aki is red, Male!Aki is blue.
* SoleSurvivor: Once you complete "Truth", Aki will be the only member of the class to escape the other world -- with everyone else dead and/or stranded there for the rest of their lives.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Zigzagged. Both versions of Aki have gold eyes, but they don't seem to have any supernatural qualities. Female!Aki is implied to be half demon, but seeing her without her contact lens reveals her eyes are actually {{red|EyesTakeWarning}}.

[[folder:Female Aki]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aki_8.png]]

* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: She shows an interest in Tohma in the beginning of the game, but any attraction to him quickly fades when she gets a good look at his personality close up.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: She prioritizes helping Misao above all else and [[TheUnfettered is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done,]] including murder.
* DissonantLaughter: When she notices that Yoshino was brutally killed and carved up by the enemy with a chainsaw, she giggles at the fact that she "forgot" to try and help her escape.
* DissonantSerenity: She retains the same plain smile while murdering people against whom Misao wanted revenge. This is downplayed in Version 3 and Definitive Edition due to more facial expressions being given to her.
* GirlishPigtails: Big, poofy ones. They're still present in Definitive Edition, but less voluminous.
* GoodIsNotNice: Downplayed. On the whole, she's benevolent and courageous, but she won't hesitate to be blunt and tell someone if she doesn't care about what they're saying, and if she feels you're hindering her on her mission to help Misao, she'll plainly tell you to get lost and that it's not her concern if your stupidity gets you killed. She also ''giggles'' when she notices that Yoshino was brutally murdered with a chainsaw, but given [[AlphaBitch what Yoshino was like]], well… [[WesternAnimation/TheCritic yeah, nothing of value was lost there]].
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Misao by the end of "Truth".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's surprisingly ruthless in her mission to help Misao when the school gets trapped in a nightmarish world, has no compunction when it comes to killing or leaving others to die as in Yoshino's case, and is blunt to a fault, but she's compassionate towards those she cares about all the same.
* NamedByTheAdaptation: She's given the surname "Narukami" in the light novel adaptation of ''Misao''.
* NothingNiceAboutSugarAndSpice: She's much more willing to use violence than her male counterpart and other peoples' suffering or deaths (besides Misao's, of course) don't bother her as much -- she even giggles when she sees that [[AlphaBitch Yoshino]] was brutally murdered.
* NotQuiteHuman: It is implied that she is a half-demon.
* OnlyFriend: She was the only person in their school to ever show kindness to Misao when she was still alive and is considered as such to be the closest thing she has to a friend.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Male Aki]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akito.png]]

* ButThouMust: When he has the chance to kill Tohma and Sohta, he refuses to do it, as it goes against his principles. In the first case, it is Library who kills Tohma, and in the other case, it’s a voice in his head (implied to be Female!Aki) who forces him to kill Sohta.
* NewGamePlus: Initially unlockable in a second playthrough in Version 2. The Definitive Edition and Version 3 of the free version avert this, even allowing you to play the “Truth” ending with him. You still have to go through the main story as him first, though.
* NiceGuy: Even nicer than Female!Aki, as he seems upset even when Yoshino is killed. Then again, he has no reason to hate her; Aki would only know how bad Yoshino is when there are no guys around if they were a girl themself.
* OnlySaneMan: Compared to his female counterpart, his actions seem much more reasonable.
* SadisticChoice: In the Definitive Edition, Aki still cannot stomach killing people even for Misao's sake and outside factors won't force him otherwise. So when Misao's curse starts falling apart, Tohma and Sohta are caught in a trap and are holding on to a ledge for dear life. Aki can only save one of them before the other falls to their demise.
* ShipTease: With [[BoyMeetsGhoul Misao]]. The "Truth" ending confirms it, though Aki says they should become better friends before ever having a chance as lovers.

!School Members

[[folder:Tohma Yuuki]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tohma.png]]
Aki and Misao's classmate. He is very popular with girls, and he is dating Saotome.
----
* ChickMagnet: Saotome, Misao, Yoshino, and even Female!Aki all have some form of a crush on him, though Aki's is toned down and goes away when she gets a good look at his personality.
* DirtyCoward: Abandons Saotome when a zombie is about to attack her, which leads to her death.
* HandsomeLech: He is beautiful and quite a ChickMagnet, but he is also an insensitive {{Jerkass}}.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Even when everyone around him is dying, he only shows concern for himself. For instance, he abandons Saotome to be killed by a zombie to save himself.
* {{Jerkass}}: Mostly just a rude, cowardly asshole for most of the game.
* KarmaHoudini: In the Good Ending, he leaves the Other World alive, without having been killed for his misdeeds against Misao. Subverted, since he is punished in the continuation of the game, the "Truth" ending, after Misao drags him to the other world and he gets trapped there, presumably forever.
* LaserGuidedKarma: All in all, he gets off relatively scot-free. His major sin was being a coward and being unfaithful. In the end, he never really intended to hurt anyone. And once we find out what [[RapeAsDrama some of the others did to Misao]], it's easier to understand why he is merely trapped in the other world instead of being killed.
* NeverMyFault: When he learns Saotome died after he abandoned her, he tries to blame Misao for it.
* PromotionToParent: A very odd version of the trope appears in the credits. With his friends reincarnated as babies and him imprisoned in the other world, he is basically forced to help raise the kids.
** [[https://twitter.com/sen_old/status/1347085634133839875/photo/1 This]] official art on Twitter confirms that the kids see Ayaka and Tohma as their parents, something he isn't happy about.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ayaka Kisaragi]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ayaka_4.png]]
Ayaka is Aki's friend. She is a fangirl of Mr. Sohta and she spends most of her time talking about him and annoying Aki.
----
* BackFromTheDead: Unlike the other students who were killed, she is revived in the "Truth" Ending by Onigawara, due to the fact that she was the only victim who Misao ''wasn't'' out for revenge against.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She spends the whole game lusting after Sohta/Kurata, clearly wanting to get with him in a room, alone. She gets her wish — [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil unfortunately]]. And then gets killed by him.
* {{Fangirl}}: For Mr. Sohta/Kurata. Until she learns his [[AxCrazy true nature]], that is.
* InnocentBystander: She's the only character whom Misao did not have any plans for at all; Misao wants Aki to help her get her revenge against just about everyone else. Ayaka just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and she gets killed by Sohta/Kurata after learning what he did to Misao.
* PromotionToParent: [[https://twitter.com/sen_old/status/1347085634133839875/photo/1 This]] official art on Twitter confirms that she and Tohma are in charge of raising the infant Yoshino, Kudoh and Saotome in the underworld.
* RetGone: Unlike the others, this is her fate in only the Good Ending. In the "Truth" ending, she is revived by Onigawara, due to her being the only one out of those who were killed who ''wasn't'' a target of Misao's revenge.
* SheKnowsTooMuch: The reason that Mr. Sohta killed her. She discovered pieces of Misao's body in his desk, and quickly realized what it meant.
* SkewedPriorities: When weird things suddenly start happening around the school, her immediate response isn't to look for somewhere safe, but to rifle through the desk of the teacher she has a crush on.
* StalkerWithACrush: Towards Sohta; she's going through his personal belongings to find out his secrets. According to WordOfGod, stalking people she likes has always been a habit of hers, and after Onigawara revives her in the "Truth" ending, she becomes quite smitten with him. Her stalking will continue.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Haruna Saotome]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saotome_3.png]]
Aki and Misao's classmate. She's also Tohma's girlfriend.
----
* AndYourRewardIsInfancy: She, along with Yoshino and Kudoh, is reincarnated into a baby after Aki is able to free her soul from Misao's curse.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Misao describes her as a manipulative and sly girl who posted her love poem on the bulletin board for all to see. However, considering both Aki and Tohma remember Otome as a nice girl, Misao's personal hatred and jealousy of Otome may have just twisted her perception.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Otome was supposedly jealous of Misao being with Tohma to the point where she posted Misao’s poem for Tohma on the school billboard to humiliate her rival. It’s unknown how true that is.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: According to WordOfGod.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She acts rather sweet to others. Subverted by the end of the game; she's hinted to be the sort of person who would cause a classmate embarrassment leading to severe bullying out of jealousy. However, it's never made clear if she truly posted the text on the wall or if Misao was assuming the worst of her due to her jealousy for Tohma.
* InSeriesNickname: Known as Otome by her classmates.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Possibly, although not at the same level as Yoshino.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: Downplayed. If Aki is male, she's the one he apparently has a crush on.
* RetGone: After dying, she, alongside the others who died in the other world, gets erased from existence and nobody in the real world remembers them.
* WomanScorned: In the Truth scenario, she beats an illusion of Tohma with a baseball bat after realizing that he left her to die and was just playing with her and Misao all along.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mamoru Kudoh]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kudoh.png]]
Aki's classmate and also Misao's childhood friend. The two grew apart as they became older.
----
* AndYourRewardIsInfancy: He, along with Yoshino and Saotome, is reincarnated into a baby after Aki is able to free his soul from Misao's curse.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: In Kudoh’s final moments, he declared to Misao’s spirit that he loves her after he expressed remorse for abandoning her. Unfortunately, she’s too angry with him to forgive him and kills him.
* BigBrotherInstinct: According to WordOfGod, his love for Misao is more brotherly than romantic.
* BullyHunter: He protected Misao from bullies when they were small children. As they got older, he stopped doing it to avoid being bullied himself.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Of the Unlucky kind: He apparently has a one-sided crush on Misao.
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* {{Hypocrite}}: At one point, he tells Yoshino off for bullying someone, only to ignore Misao's bullying in the same room (and at the same time).
* LetThemDieHappy: Before he reincarnates, he reconciles with Misao's spirit, who thanks him for supporting her in their younger years before their estrangement. Even Aki believes it might not have been the real Misao, but Kudoh seems to relax as he dies.
* KickTheDog: The callous way in which he cuts off his friendship with Misao is what earned him her posthumous wrath.
* ItsAllMyFault: Blames himself for abandoning Misao when she started getting bullied.
* IronicHell: In the “Truth” section, he is surrounded by several Misaos who are cursing him and telling him to die as a reminder that he abandoned Misao and let her be bullied instead of protecting her like he used to.
* MyGreatestFailure: He and Misao used to be much closer in their childhood than their teen years. Kudoh comes to regret abandoning her and expresses remorse in his final moments. In “Truth”, he agonizes over his estrangement with her and wishes he had done more to help her.
* RetGone: After dying, he, alongside the others who died in the other world, gets erased from existence and nobody in the real world remembers them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Kazuki Yoshino]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshino_5.png]]
Yoshino is the leader of the bullies in Aki's and Misao's school.
----
* AlphaBitch: With a GirlPosse of her own and if things do not go her way, she ''will'' cause great pain.
* AndYourRewardIsInfancy: She, along with Kudoh and Saotome, are reincarnated into babies after Aki freed her soul from Misao's curse.
* AssholeVictim: Yoshino's bullying is so bad that Female!Aki is not the least bit upset about being unable to save her from a horrible death-by-chainsaw. This is in contrast to Male!Aki, who ''is'' genuinely distressed about it.
* TheBully: She regularly picks on other students. Her tormenting Misao was even worse, since she took a lewd picture of her to use as blackmail and had Misao locked in a stall with a male student, leading to her being raped.
* DirtyCoward: According to WordOfGod.
* HateSink: She is the only one of the 3 victims without any redeeming qualities… and that’s before it’s revealed that she told one of her fellow bullies to rape Misao.
* IronicHell: Her punishment in “Truth” is her being beaten up by three Misaos while she begs for mercy, similarly to how she used to bully Misao.
* {{Jerkass}}: Even worse than Tohma in this regard.
* LoveMakesYouEvil: It’s implied that she started tormenting Misao because of her crush on Tohma. When Misao and Tohma started dating, her bullying only gets worse from there, especially after Misao tells Yoshino that Tohma will not like her more because she’s bullying Misao.
* MoreHateableMinorVillain: Yoshino may not be one of the main villains, but she proves herself to be much more morally despicable than both Misao herself and her teacher. While the latter two [[FreudianExcuse were brutally bullied and mistreated until they snapped and turned to violence]], Yoshino has no troubled backstory to explain her own extreme bullying ways, and never sincerely apologizes for any of it even after it inevitably ends in tragedy.
* NeverMyFault: In the 3.0 version, she tries to excuse her actions against Misao by saying Misao looked down on her when Tohma started dating her. She never took responsibility for her own jealousy or anger and tried to blame Misao.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: When she tells the entire class that Misao has a crush on Tohma, it ends up with Tohma asking Misao out. However, this doesn't end well for anyone involved.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: While she didn’t commit the act herself, she locked Misao in a bathroom stall and told one of her male friends to rape Misao.
* RetGone: After dying, she, along with the others who died in the other world, are erased from existence and nobody in the real world remembers them.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: She doesn't appear much after the prologue of the game, but ''boy'' did her bullying (an InformedAttribute until the ending) leave a mark on Misao's ultimate fate.
* StuffedIntoALocker: Once she stuffed Misao into a box, as seen in a flashback.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mr. Hideki Sohta/Kurata]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/douchebag.png]]
Homeroom teacher of Aki's class. He is known by his students to be a kind and caring teacher. In truth, however, he is the one who killed Misao and one of the main antagonists aside from Misao herself.
----
* AdaptationNameChange: His surname gets changed to Kurata in the Definitive Edition, possibly because Sohta is most common as a given name in Japan.
* AffablyEvil: In his self-inflicted hell during the Truth ending.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: When he was young, he was ostracized by his classmates for being plain and ugly.
* AllThereInTheManual: Or rather, yearbook. His full name is revealed in the "Truth" ending.
* AlasPoorVillain: In the "Truth" Ending, if Aki decides to visit his world, he reveals that he became who he is because of the bullying he experienced when he was a boy. Aki expresses sympathy for him.
* BigBadEnsemble: With Misao. He murdered Misao, causing her to return as a spirit and wreak revenge.
* BerserkButton: Rejecting his romantic advances. He murders anyone who does so, as he did to Misao.
* BerserkerTears: Sheds these in his youth when Takano rejects him.
* BrokenAce: He's a kind, handsome teacher who is adored by his students, who also happens to be a rapist and murderer with an inability to tolerate rejection and a complex about his appearance.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Had a crush on his classmate Takano, because she was the only person who was kind to him then. It didn't quite pan out, as she revealed that she only talked to him out of pity.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He went out of his way to be kind to people despite everyone hating him, tried to save a dying cat, and yet could never be happy. What broke him was when Takano, the one person who was ever kind to him, rejected him when he declared his love for her and she confessed she only hanged out with him out of pity.
* DespairEventHorizon: After being rejected by Takano, he snaps and decides that no one will ever love him for who he is.
* DissonantSerenity: He is extremely calm and collected when killing someone unless his berserk buttons are pushed. [[NonStandardGameOver If he kills Aki in the Truth Ending, he calmly enters the closet they are hiding in and swiftly kills them.]]
* DyingAsYourself: After his HeelRealization moment, he age-regresses back into his younger appearance and disappears. Yes, Sohta was still a scared, damaged teenager underneath his mask.
* FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon: As an adult, he is quite handsome, and all the girls crush over him. He is also a killer.
* FaceOfAThug: When he was younger, he was very odd-looking, and by no means a bad kid. As an adult, however, he inverts this.
* {{Fetish}}: Hands. When Ayaka finds Misao's severed hands in Sohta's desk, he comes along and Ayaka learns that Sohta apparently does things with the hands. When he was young, the first thing he liked about his FirstLove, Takano, was her hands.
* FreudianExcuse: As a child, he was bullied by his classmates for being plain and ordinary, turned down by his FirstLove and OnlyFriend, who actually just pitied him. So he goes through a face surgery as an adult so he would be loved and accepted, only to believe that people only love him for his looks.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: Anything he did as a teenager. He tried to give a classmate her handkerchief, but she didn't want it after he touched it. He tried to save a dying cat, but the vet couldn't save her. He tried to engage his OnlyFriend in a romantic relationship, but she rejected him because she pitied him and didn't feel the same way towards him.
* HeKnowsTooMuch: He kills Ayaka after she found Misao's severed hands in his desk. In the Bad End, he kills Aki after they find out that he's Misao's murderer.
* HeelRealization: After Aki enters into his self-inflicted hell in the "Truth" ending, they convince him that his students loved him for who he was and not for his good looks. Complete with a CooldownHug and Sohta shedding TearsOfRemorse.
* KarmaHoudini: In the Bad End. He not only kills Aki and gets away with it, but he never gets caught for assaulting and murdering Misao, and it is heavily implied that he will continue with his rampages if another girl accidentally pushes his BerserkButton again.
* IAmNotPretty: It turns out that Sohta was unattractive in his youth. When he overheard Ayaka and her friends talking about Sohta as her homeroom teacher, they complimented him on his "beauty". He then stormed off to the bathroom and started punching the mirror.
* IfICantHaveYou: He nearly chokes Takano after she rejected him in high-school. And he brutally kills Misao in cold blood after she rejects his advances.
* KindheartedCatLover: In his past, he tried to rescue a cat he saw on the street, only for the vet to tell him it was too late.
* LonersAreFreaks: When he was young, nobody wanted to be around him because of how freaky he looked.
* MagicPlasticSurgery: When he was a teenager, he was chubbier and plain. It is thanks to surgeries that he gets the appearance he has now. He is not very happy about it, though, thinking that people only like him for his looks.
* NotGoodWithRejection: He's tried making friends ever since he was a young man. But his peers, mostly girls, were repulsed by his apparent unattractive features. Finally, when he thought he made a genuine friend, it turns out that she didn't care about him and befriended him out of pity. He snaps and demands to know why he can't make any friends. Later, when he attempted to "comfort" Misao. He killed her after she freaked out.
* RetGone: His fate in the Good Ending, as he, alongside the others who died in the other world, gets erased from existence and nobody in the real world remembers them.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: He was a sweet boy who wanted friends, but was bullied for being ugly. As an adult, he grew to hate other people, and becomes extremely unstable.
* StepfordSmiler: Type A (Depressed) when he was young. He would always try to smile, no matter how badly he got bullied. He became Type C (Unstable) as an adult, secretly hating everyone for what he perceives as only loving him for his looks.
* WalkingSpoiler: It is difficult to talk about Sohta without spoiling the whole story, in particular spoiling that he is one of the main villains who killed Misao and Ayaka.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: After being bullied for his ugliness as a kid, and having no genuine friends, he became the unstable killer he is in-game.
* {{Yandere}}: For Takano and Misao.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Misao Furukawa]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misao_2.png]]
The tragic heroine of the game. She is noted throughout the game as being friendless and lonely. Misao went missing three months before the game begins.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: She was frequently treated as an outcast and humiliated by her classmates.
* BigBadEnsemble: With Mr. Sohta/Kurata. She seeks revenge on him for killing her, but also drags all of her classmates in as well, to get revenge on them for bullying her.
* BreakTheCutie: Before she got murdered, the universe seems to be out to get her despite her being a very kind person.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Befriends Aki after the True Ending.
* GenericCuteness: WordOfGod was surprised by how many players thought Misao was cute. The "Truth" scenario (which was added in version 2) gave her a gloomy personality to justify her social status amongst her peers.
* GreenEyedMonster: The reason of her resentment towards Saotome. She's perfectly aware that Tohma is dating her and just sees Misao as a plaything, but blames Saotome for it.
* HimeCut: The hairstyle is perfect for this trope, but she's a {{yandere}} and lacks the connotations of grace and class that go with it, so she [[SubvertedTrope doesn't truly fit]].
* LonersAreFreaks
* NiceGirl: Aki views her this way and was sad when she disappeared since they'd always wanted to try to befriend her. Before dying and becoming a vengeful spirit, she's probably the nicest character in the whole game.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Her death is what turns turns her into the vengeful spirit that drags her classmates into the Other World.
* RapeAsBackstory: She was raped both by one of Yoshino's thugs and by Mr. Sohta (the latter of whom then killed her).
* TraumaCongaLine: Basically everything that happens to her that kicks off the plot.
* WalkingSpoiler: Like Sohta, it is hard to talk about her without spoiling half of the story, in particular since he killed her and she is one of the main villains out for revenge.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: After suffering trauma after trauma at the hands of bullies and then getting murdered by Mr. Sohta, Misao curses the whole school and starts picking off everyone who ever wronged her one by one.
* {{Yandere}}: For Tohma. She'd intended for Aki to kill Tohma instead of Mr. Sohta because even though Mr. Sohta ultimately wronged her far more, she's afraid of him. She would much rather be with Tohma forever.
[[/folder]]

!Others

[[folder:Onigawara]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/onigawara.png]]
Onigawara is the student council president at Aki and Misao's school. He guides Aki through the game. He seems to be Ogre from ''VideoGame/MadFather''.
----
* AffablyEvil: As in Mad Father. Despite what his otherworldly origins might lead you to believe, Onigawara is a very nice man, providing moral support and offering forgiveness to unfortunate victims.
* BaldOfEvil: He is bald and a demon, if an AffablyEvil one.
* CanonImmigrant: Can also be seen in ''VideoGame/MadFather'', operating under the alias of Ogre.
* DarkIsNotEvil: While he's definitely not human, he is actually pretty nice for a demon.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He may be a demon who loves to watch human cruelty and foolishness, but even he thinks that [[BigBadEnsemble Misao and Sohta/Kurata]] have gone too far in their revenge on the world, something he makes clear in the Truth ending when he helps Aki pacify them both.
* GreaterScopeVillain: It is implied that he is the one who gave Misao her powers to curse those who wronged her. However, he does not directly antagonize Aki, even helping them at various points.
* MeaningfulName: His name means "Protecting Demon", and he indeed tries to protect Aki from the dangers of the Other World.
* NotQuiteHuman: Wherever he's from, it certainly isn't this realm.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: One of the clues that he's not a normal guy.
* ReusedCharacterDesign: Those who played ''Mad Father'' before this game may remember him as Ogre, a recurring character who appeared throughout the game to aid Aya on her journey. Here, he is pretty much doing the same thing for Aki.
* StudentCouncilPresident: He claims to be this, though the end reveals that he took the place of the real president in order to help Aki with her quest.

[[folder:Miss Library]]
[[quoteright:258:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/library.png]]
The vice-president of the Student Council and most likely the assistant of Onigawara. She is also a guiding force in the game, much like Onigawara, and a supporting character. Like Aki, [[HelloInsertNameHere players can name her]], though the English version adds Novella as her default name. Implied to be the clone of Aya Drevis seen in ''VideoGame/MadFather''.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: If Aki refuses to befriend her after being asked twice, [[DisproportionateRetribution she kills her]]. Also, when Male!Aki has the chance to kill Tohma, but refuses to do it, Miss Library will do it in his place, simply because Tohma was annoying her.
* ContinuityNod: In version 3.0, if you name her Maria, she tells you that she doesn't like the name, but will use it anyway. This implies that she is an older Aya, or possibly even the clone seen during the true end of ''VideoGame/MadFather''. Then in the Definitive Edition, you can no longer name her Aya; she will say that "only Father is allowed to call her that name."
%%* CuteClumsyGirl
%%* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette
* HelloInsertNameHere: You get to name her when you first meet her. You can't give her the same name as another character in the game or the same name you gave your own player character, and she gives unique reactions to a few names. In the Definitive Edition, she will not allow you to call her Aya, saying that only her father can call her by that name.
* NotQuiteHuman: As she appears to be working with Onigawara rather than the school, this is a fair assumption. Despite her fragile personality (she's scared of Tohma at first-sight), she's pretty unphased about killing someone else. Be it you for [[DisproportionateRetribution not accepting her sudden friendship request]], or Tohma for ''teasing her about her glasses.''
* PunnyName: Her English default name, [[http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/novella Novella.]]
* ShadowArchetype: To Aya Drevis from ''VideoGame/MadFather''. Just like her, she's cheerful, curious and is very devoted to her father. She also takes out her anger violently when things don't go as she wants (like when she kills Aki and Tohma in bad ends due to mere annoyance). The difference is that Aya eventually learned to have empathy for her father's victims and befriended Maria, while Library didn't change.

[[folder:Takano]]
[[quoteright:127:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takano.png]]
Takano was Sohta's first, and last, friend during high school. She took pity on him after seeing him getting bullied and they often ate lunch together.
----
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Sohta falls in love with her because she was the only person at their high school who was willing to hang out with him.
* DeclarationOfProtection: She offered this to Sohta, which he politely declined.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Subverted. She seems like a nice girl. However, when Sohta makes his feelings for her clear, she calls him a creep and tells him that she only hung out with him out of pity.
* FirstLove: To Sohta.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Only appears in the "Truth" flashbacks, which can't be seen unless you've already finished the game.
* OnlyFriend: Because no one else would show Sohta any kindness, he considers her this.
* SatelliteCharacter: Her entire point is to give backstory to Sohta.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Her cold rejection of Sohta's LoveConfession ends up turning him into a MisanthropeSupreme and AxCrazy murderer.
* WasItAllALie: After turning Sohta down, she declares that she only took pity on him all the time, which causes his FaceHeelTurn.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: It is unknown what happens to her afterward. Given his tendencies towards every girl who rejects him, she is probably dead.
