->''"Killing the Patriots was not enough to end war. It didn't create this big, happy utopia. But you know what? Seeing Sunny doing so well... Makes me damn happy the Patriots are gone."''

The daughter of Olga Gurlukovich. Raiden rescued her from the Patriots and dropped her off with Otacon and Solid Snake, who raised her on-board their giant airplane headquarters. Sunny is a computer programming genius, but lacks social and cooking skills due to her sheltered upbringing. She returns in ''VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance'', now going by the last name of her foster father, Emmerich.
----

* EleventhHourRanger: She is this in ''Rising'', joining the contacts list only in the final level. When Raiden found out World Marshal's ultimate plan was not too far from starting, he headed for Solis to get an aircraft to get to Pakistan with time to spare to stop them. Conveniently, the best, fastest aircraft they had was designed by none other than Sunny.
* ChildProdigy: Her brain was experimented upon by the Patriots as an infant ''and'' she was raised by Otacon, a brilliant robotics engineer and computer technician, making her adept at computer programming at the age of 7. By the time the events of ''Rising'' come around, she's working as an engineer, developing a Mach 23 aircraft before even reaching her teen years!
* FlowersOfFemininity: During the Act 3 mission briefing, Naomi puts a blue rose in Sunny's hair to show her how pretty she can be. In ''Rising'', she wears a blue rose hair clip.
* GibberishOfLove: Sunny initially isn't paying attention to George but the moment he calls her cute, she becomes speechless and ended up stepping on Blade Wolf's tail.
* HappilyAdopted: Sunny adores her adoptive fathers and isn't afraid to show it, especially since she takes on Otacon's last name by the time ''Rising'' comes around.
* TheHeart: In ''Metal Gear Rising''. She expresses nothing but admiration for Raiden as a hero, and he does his damndest to treat her with all the kindness in the world. Could also apply in ''[=MGS4=]'', where she's a major source of motivation for Snake and functions as the protagonists' moral center.
* LapPillow: She acts as one for Raiden in the mission briefing for Act 4 of ''[=MGS4=]''.
* LethalChef: Sunny keeps cooking eggs for Otacon and Snake, but they're usually either over or under-cooked, leading both Otacon and even former Green Beret Snake to constantly come up with excuses to not eat them. She gets better at it and cooks them right at the end.
* MarriedToTheJob: She claims that science is her only love when Raiden asks if she has a crush on anyone in ''Rising'', but it's evident that it's not entirely the truth.
* MeaningfulName: Many of her appearances involve references to the sun, such as her sunny-side up eggs and love of being outside. The latter's even said while the evening sun is setting behind her.
* MoralityChain: Is Raiden's. He shows a lot of restraint in not wanting to expose her to the darkest facets of his personality and tries to keep a brave and positive face for her when they converse.
* NoSocialSkills: Hal claims that she's spent her whole life online, and lacks proper social skills. Subverted four years later in ''Rising'' where she is shown to be a pretty well-adjusted and sociable ChildProdigy engineer who works in an aeronautic research institute.
* ParentalAbandonment: Sunny's mother was Olga, who died during the events of the Manhattan Incident to save Raiden and Sunny as well. Her biological father has been completely absent from her life, and there is no clear indication whether or not he's alive at any point in the timeline since the pregnant Olga debuted, or that Olga herself knows who he is, so for all intents and purposes his identity is a complete unknown. Fortunately for Sunny, however, she eventually found herself [[HappilyAdopted a good adoptive family]] in Hal Emmerich, Solid Snake, and Raiden.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: Returns in ''Rising'', with the four year interim turning her into an [[http://images.wikia.com/metalgear/images/0/05/Mgr-Sunny.png adorable]] WrenchWench. If her mother is any indication she's only going to get increasingly gorgeous as she grows up.
* SmokingIsNotCool: Constantly chews out Snake for his smoking habit, especially when he disregards the Nomad's "no smoking" policy. In the briefing for Act 3, she even personally snatches his last cigarette out of his hand and disposes of it.
* SpeechImpediment: Sunny has a slight stutter. It goes away by ''Rising''.
* TechnoBabble: Most of her CODEC conversation in ''Rising'', especially regarding her aircraft designs.
* TeamChef: Cooks for Snake and Otacon in their airbase during the events of ''[=MGS4=]''.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: After being freed from the Patriots' grasp, Sunny is no longer the shy, stuttering girl she was in ''[=MGS4=]'' when she appears in ''Rising''.
* {{Tsundere}}: Shows shades of this towards George in the epilogue of ''Rising''.
* WholeCostumeReference: Her outfit in ''Rising'' is based on her mother's clothes during the tanker chapter in ''[=MGS2=]'', and the patch on the left leg of her boiler suit is the kana logo Hal designed for Philanthropy.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: In ''Rising'', she has the appearance of a young teenager despite being 10 years old.

->''"Sooner or later, the whole damn human race is gonna be green collars."''

A smooth-talking weapons wholesaler and gun launderer (i.e. someone who replaces ID chips in guns so that anyone can bypass the System and use the guns as normal). He's a primary source of weapons for Old Snake.
----
* ActionSurvivor: A war orphan and ChildSoldier long before he became Drebin 893.
* ArmsDealer: He claims to be one of a number, and functions as Old Snake's primary source of weaponry throughout the game.
* AscendedFanboy: The ''Database'' claims he is this to legendary units such as Dead Cell, FOXHOUND, the Cobra Unit, and the Beauty and the Beast unit. He has a photo gallery of the Beauty and the Beast Unit inside of his Stryker, he requires Raging Raven's grenade launcher be given to him before removing its ID tag, and he has a Mosin Nagant sniper rifle that's modeled perfectly on The End's tranquilizer-sniper rifle.
* AwesomePersonnelCarrier: His Stryker APC. He uses it to save Snake and his friends on a few occasions.
* BadassLongcoat: One he wears along with military pants, making up his unique sense of clothing.
* BigDamnHeroes: In Act 2, he shows up just in time to help Snake and Naomi get away from the [[ZombieApocalypse brain-damaged]] squads of Liquid's [=PMCs=].
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's very eccentric for an arms dealer, given how he's dyed his hair blond, performs stage magic tricks, likes to drink Cola so much that he's installed a vending machine that dispenses them inside the [=APC=] he operates out of, and has a hairless monkey as a pet that also loves drinking Cola.
* CatchPhrase: "[[PunctuatedForEmphasis Eye. Have. You.]]" He even has it painted on his Stryker.
* ChildSoldier: Reveals himself to be a former one to Otacon.
* CollectiveIdentity: Of a sort. Drebin 893 is only one of a worldwide network of arms dealers, all named Drebin. 893 is the only one seen in person.
* CoolShades: Constantly seen in these, given his cool style.
* DoubleReverseQuadrupleAgent: Subverted. [[spoiler:Even though he was working for the Patriots the entire time, he's all too happy to see them destroyed.]]
* {{Expy}}: Drebin is [[VideoGame/DeusEx Smuggler]] in all but name. Both characters have the same role, physical appearance, wardrobe and even the same ''voice actor''.
* FingerSnapLighter: One of his many parlor tricks.
* HonestJohnsDealership: Deconstruction: He has done questionable things, such as injecting potential customers with "transmitters" to spy on them. But his sales, while illegal, are genuine, and he makes it clear that he would never betray his customers. [[spoiler: Even when he reveals himself as knowingly working for the Patriots, he's all too happy to see them gone.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: During the game, Drebin comes off as a cold pragmatist, but in the epilogue, it turns out he's a nice guy. [[spoiler:Dude even brought doves and flowers for Johnny and Meryl's wedding!]]
* NeverGetsDrunk: Due to the Patriots' grip of nanomachines and more, Drebin is unable to ever get drunk as the nanomachines within his body break down the alcohol molecules before they can inebriate him. As such, he prefers to drink Narc Soda instead as it "jibes" with the system better. [[spoiler: After the main events however, he's seen finally able to be drunk due to the destruction of the Patriot's system code finally being eliminated.]]
* NonHumanSidekick: Little Grey the monkey.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: His real name is unknown and he is only known as Drebin. And even then, that's the name of a whole network of arms dealers, of which he is identified as number 893.
* PassThePopcorn: His reaction to a bunch of Gekkos surrounding Raiden is to stand by and open another soda.
* PunchClockVillain: [[spoiler:He and his fellows are only working for the Patriots out of a lack of any better option. He's relieved when they're destroyed, since it finally allows them to work for themselves.]]
* StageMagician: He shows some parlor tricks to Snake from time to time, such as making an apple and a hand grenade appear out of nowhere.
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler: Sort of: Drebin was an agent of the Patriots, but he then reveals that he wasn't upset with Otacon or Snake at all for taking the Patriots AIs offline. On the contrary, he thanked them, as it allowed him and his fellow Drebins to form their own business.]]
* StealthPun: Fitting that Drebin number [[GoroawaseNumber 893]] acts like a ''yakuza'' businessman, huh?
* SoulBrotha: A less stereotypical example, but Drebin is a charismatic and rather stylish black man, who has his cool Stryker APC complete with a cola vending machine. And a pet monkey!
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He's constantly chugging cola, as has Little Grey.
* YouAreNumberSix: Being part of a network of arms dealers called Drebin, they're all identified through numbers. The one who aids Snake is number 893.

[[folder: Little John]]

John, nicknamed little John, is the son of Raiden and Rosemary. Rosemary had him after the Big Shell Incident, but in order to protect him, she faked a miscarriage and lied to Raiden. By the end of ''Guns of the Patriots'', Raiden finally meets him and the three started a family.

Years later, John and Rose were sent to New Zealand by Raiden, to ensure their safety as he hunted down members of rival PMSC Desperado.
-----
* TheGhost: He only appears ''once'' in the franchise, during the end of ''Guns of the Patriots''. He however is mentioned quite a bit in ''Sons of Liberty'' and ''Revengeance''.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: In a way. He only appears during the end of Guns of The Patriots, which was intented as the GrandFinale of the franchise. By Rising, however, he is PutOnABus, for his sake.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He is identical to Raiden, hair-style being the only difference.
* OnlyOneName: Just like Rose, he doesn't appear to have any last name.
* PutOnABus: He and Rosemary go to New Zealand during the events of ''Rising'' for their protection.

!!The Beauty and the Beast Unit
[[folder: In General]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beautyandthebeastunit0.jpg]]
A unit composed of four insane, power-armored young women codenamed: Laughing Octopus, Crying Wolf, Raging Raven and Screaming Mantis. Ocelot's elite forces in ''Metal Gear Solid 4''. Their Beast halves are voiced by Creator/FredTatasciore.
-----
* AmazonBrigade: The Beauty and the Beast Unit, as their name implies, are all female.
* AnimalMotifs: Each member is themed on a different animal; octopus, raven, wolf, and mantis.
* AxCrazy: All of them to varying degrees. Raven and Octopus have the worst case, and they often kill people rather gruesomely.
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: They've all been driven insane by the horrors of warfare, and undergone transformation into super soldiers in the misguided belief that fighting will ease their trauma. However, note that Laughing Octopus and Raging Raven are the only B&B members to suffer actual torture, though Screaming Mantis overheard other people being tortured.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Implied by Big Boss noting that the technology used to seal away his will in addition to his body was similar to the type used to pacify the B&B Corps.
* BreakTheCutie: All four of the beauties suffered this before becoming the Beasts.
* {{Dark Action Girl}}s: Despite their madness, all four girls are deadly combatants, and are introduced curb stomping a squad of militia.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: All of them have a different tragic and truly dark backstory.
* DarkLordOnLifeSupport: As Drebin explains, all of the enhancements made to them means that they cannot survive without their armor, like the yolk of an egg. Once they leave it - or it's destroyed, they only have minutes left to live. To that effect, it is entirely possible to defeat the Beauties by simply staying away from them long enough for their bodies to finally break down.
* EqualOpportunityEvil: Crying Wolf is African, Raging Raven is Indonesian, Laughing Octopus is Scandinavian and Screaming Mantis is South American.
* FanDisservice: They're all gorgeous women in tight, form-fitting outfits. To many, most of the erotic appeal is removed by the fact they've all been horrifically traumatized to the point they're mentally children.
* FlashStep: In their "Beauty" form, making it NintendoHard to shoot them, tranquiliser weapons or no.
* FlunkyBoss: Raging Raven and Crying Wolf both have soldiers help them, while Screaming Mantis forces people to help her.
* FourGirlEnsemble: Four horribly traumatized young women make up the Beauty and the Beast Unit; Raging Raven was only around 20.
%%* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Deconstructed.
%%** Choleric: Raging Raven
%%** Melancholic: Crying Wolf
%%** Phlegmatic: Screaming Mantis
%%** Sanguine: Laughing Octopus
%%* FreudianExcuse: Every one of the Beauties.
* GorgeousGorgon: The B&Bs embody this trope in both the physical sense and the mental one. The first one, Laughing Octopus, is probably the best example; after her armor falls off, she babbles and giggles some more, and the camera deliberately avoids her face...before revealing she's absolutely stunning. In the mental sense, each of the B&Bs reveals a sliver of humanity beneath their psychosis and a desire to be free of the need to kill.
* InSeriesNickname: They are occasionally referred to as SNAKEHOUND due to their obssession with killing Snake.
* InkSuitActor: The Beauty and the Beast Unit's four members were based on models. In the case of Raging Raven, the inspirational model, Yumi Kikuchi, not only lent her appearance to her creation, she even voiced her. To a lesser extent, their Japanese voice actors also performed motion capture for the characters.
* [[SirSwearsALot Lady Swears A Lot]]: Although most of the characters swear in the series, only Octopus actually went as serious as dropping the F-bomb, making her the first character in the English games and the second overall.
* LaughingMad: Laughing Octopus (obviously) and to a far lesser extent Screaming Mantis.
* LegacyCharacter: They're named after Ocelot's old comrades in FOXHOUND, [[spoiler:and in Screaming Mantis' case, is possessed by one of them.]]
%%* MindRape: All of them are victims of mundane versions.
* MultinationalTeam: Although only Raging Raven's country is known. In order of boss fight: Scandinavian, Indonesian, African, and South American.
* NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent: They are from countries where English is not the main language but are able to speak the English with American and British accent.
* PoweredArmor: Raging Raven, Crying Wolf, and Screaming Mantis all wear this. Laughing Octopus is clad entirely in Octocamo.
* PsychopathicManchild: The B&B Corps' minds are stuck in their childhood due to their emotional trauma. They are also employed as deadly soldiers.
* QuirkyMinibossSquad: The B&Bs borrow elements from previous MGS bosses: the animal names of the FOXHOUND members, the emotions of the Cobras, and the weapons of the Dead Cell members. This is entirely intentional because a lot of this game is about flashing back to the past and nostalgia.
** Laughing Octopus is pretty much what Decoy Octopus was, but with the illusory abilities of octopi instead of physically changing into someone (and being a hot blonde girl). Her tentacles and gun of choice both were used by Solidus Snake. Her emotion is based on The Boss' old codename, The Joy.
** It's no coincidence that you fight Crying Wolf in the exact same place you fought Sniper Wolf, and in the same way. Crying Wolf's even harder though, because she's got backup soldiers and bad weather on her side, and can kill you just by running you over. Her actual armament is the same model of [[MagneticWeapons railgun]] used by Fortune. Her emotion on the other hand is based on The Sorrow.
** Raging Raven owes most of her inspiration to The Fury, who also flew around and blew up your hiding places. Instead of being surrounded by mostly-aesthetic crows like Vulcan Raven, she's got dozens of Slider drones surrounding her, making her fight a needle-in-a-haystack fight. Her usage of explosives is similar to that of Fatman, although she uses a grenade launcher and missiles instead of C4 mines.
** And finally, Screaming Mantis is a return to the mind-screw of Psycho Mantis and Vamp. Instead of psychically flinging objects around, she throws a room full of ''people'' at you, since she can [[PeoplePuppets manipulate their bodies like puppets.]] [[spoiler:Personality-wise, she's even more similar: an otherwise-sanish individual with a psychotic fragment of personality making her do bad things; for Psycho Mantis, it was the [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain Parasite]], for Screaming Mantis, it's the ghost of Psycho Mantis.]] Her emotion is a mixture of both The Pain and The Fear.
* SanityHasAdvantages: Discussed; Rose mentions at one point how damaged the B&Bs are and how without the proper treatment, their symptoms will just keep getting worse, rendering them unfit for combat entirely. Snake points out that that works to his advantage, since the B&Bs are crazy and thus not fighting at their full effectiveness.
* SequelEscalation: In a narrative sense, although the boss fights are still quite good. Snake defeated a team of the world's BEST black-ops agents in FOX-HOUND, and helped kill a unit of "freaks" in Dead Cell. The Beauty and the Beast Corp, are a unit of ''monsters'', Shattered minds and bodies encased inside the most powerful killing technology of the era. They're meant to represent how the future of war, along with drones, have left soldiers like Snake behind.
* ShoutOut: They share the code names of the four FOXHOUND members killed in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'', the weapons of Dead Cell in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty'' and the emotions of the Cobra Unit from ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater''.
* SpyCatsuit: Their outfits under the armor (Laughing Octopus has this full-time).
** Originally, the Beauties were intended to be [[FullFrontalAssault stark naked]], but that would have given [=MGS4=] an AO rating beyond a doubt. The SpyCatsuit was a solution to this problem.
* TragicVillain: All of them. The horrors of war drove them all insane and turned them into the beasts they are now. Rose even expresses pity for them.
* TroubledFetalPosition: Should their Beauty forms be defeated non-lethally, they'll curl up in this position and fall asleep.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Their armored forms combine a male and female voice. They speak normally when unarmored.
* WhereIWasBornAndRazed: All of their hometowns were destroyed during their youth.

A woman who was forced to kill her family by a cult and pretended to enjoy it. She attacks with giant metal tentacles and advanced camouflage.
----
* AxCrazy: When she appears in Act 2, she is seen slaughtering several captured rebels and is only stopped by Vamp.
* CeilingCling: Thanks to her tentacles, she can cling to the buildings' walls and ceiling. During her boss battle, she employs this technique to ambush Snake.
* CombatTentacles: She has four mechanical tentacles with sharp pincers that can deliver [[ShockAndAwe electric shocks]]. They can even curl around her for defense or a RollingAttack.
* EvilLaugh: As her name implies, she constantly laughs while killing her targets.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: She kills several rebels by impaling them with her tentacles.
* InvisibilityCloak: Whereas the other Beauties use PoweredArmor, Octopus wears a suit that allows her to blend in with the surrounding environment.
* InSeriesNickname: Both Snake and Drebin call her "Tentacles" at different points.
* LaughingMad: The most obvious symptom of her destroyed psyche is her inability to stop laughing even during combat. During her boss battle, the easiest way to find her hiding spot is by picking up her laughter on the radar.
* LaughWithMe: Her CatchPhrase involves telling her enemies to laugh with her.
* PrecisionFStrike: Laughing Octopus drops the F-bomb shortly before fighting Snake, and is the first character in the English version of the series (and the second in the series overall, after EVA) to do so.
* SexyScandinavian: What part of Scandinavia she is from is never made clear. But she is definitely hot... When her face is not distorted by mad laughter.
* ShapeshifterGuiltTrip: Laughing Octopus pulls one during her boss fight after you damage her enough. Many of the forms she takes mock you in one way or another; she can even rip off Snake's tricks by hiding in a cardboard box.
* SlasherSmile: She may be pretty, but she's got one hell of a creepy grin.
* SmokeOut: When damaged, she sprays a cloud of thick black smoke, and throws some [[ThrowDownTheBomblet homing grenades]] for good measure.
* VoiceChangeling: She mimics Naomi's and Otacon's voices while morphing into Naomi and the Mk. II respectively.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Her [=OctoCamo=] appears to be superior to Snake's. Snake's can only do WallpaperCamouflage, but Octopus' allows her to actually assume the shape of almost anything, including the Metal Gear Mk. II.

A woman who was kidnapped by soldiers as a child and beaten daily. She escaped with the help of some ravens and slaughtered her captors and the civilians they had kidnapped. Her mech allows her to fly and shoot missiles.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''R'''aging '''R'''aven.
* CatchPhrase: She constantly yells "RAGE!" while chasing Snake and during her boss battle.
* ChewingTheScenery: She's definitely the loudest of the four.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: A gorgeous, pale-skinned Aceh native, who happens to be in constant homicidal anger.
* {{Flight}}: Her ability to fly at great speeds with a powerful JetPack in her armor is what sets her apart from the other Beasts.
* FlunkyBoss: She is assisted by flying Slider drones during her boss battle. They aren't that dangerous, and killing them makes her an easier target.
* GrenadeLauncher: She's too angry and mobile to carefully place explosives like Fatman, so she uses a Milkor MGL-140 grenade launcher instead. Snake takes it for himself after he defeats her.
* OnlySaneMan: Downplayed. She is insane just like the other B&Bs, but still retains some cohesion, even [[IShallTauntYou taunting]] Old Snake before he fights her.
* UnstoppableRage: She's always angry, all the time. Her jet engines are said to burn hotter the angrier she gets.
* WingedHumanoid: She is a regular woman, but her armour makes her look like a giant winged beast.
[[/folder]]

A woman who accidentally smothered her baby brother when he was crying while hiding from genocidal soldiers. She went insane and murdered all the children in a refugee camp, and blamed it on a wolf she hallucinated. Her mech allows Wolf to travel very quickly, and she is an excellent sniper.
----
* ColdSniper: Inverted. She's a good shot (with some mechanical assistance and her railgun's raw power), but she break downs in tears when doing so, making her anything but cold and emotionless.
* FoeTossingCharge: Crying Wolf's power armour is so powerful that she can send even a bulldozer flying after ramming into it. This extends to her [=FROGs=].
* FlunkyBoss: She has a unit of [=FROGs=] with her that will draw Snake's fire so she can get in a shot. Unfortunately, she'll also [[BadBoss occasionally]] run them over when charging Snake.
* InterfaceScrew: The camera changes to her perspective when she [[TheNoseKnows sniffs Snake out]] and readies her railgun. In addition, the constant blizzard partly blocks Snake's vision.
* TheNoseKnows: She is able to sniff Snake out and accurately shoot at him ''in the middle of a blizzard''.
* MagneticWeapons: Her mech suit uses the same model of portable railgun as Fortune's.
* NostalgiaLevel: [[spoiler: Crying Wolf is fought in the same Shadow Moses Island snowfield as Sniper Wolf.]]
* SplitPersonality: Specifically, her SplitPersonality is an actual wolf.
* SuperStrength: The woman herself is of average strength, but her PoweredArmor is impossibly strong, capable of stopping a charging bulldozer.

As a child, Screaming Mantis was locked in the basement of a torture dungeon and had to live off the polluted water and dead bodies in there, driving her insane. When Snake fights her she is [[spoiler: possessed by the ghost of Psycho Mantis]]. She attacks with two puppets that can control the nanomachines inside everyone [[spoiler: except Johnny Sasaki]].
----
* DemonicPossession: Variation: Although the ending of the battle implies that [[spoiler: Psycho Mantis possessed her]], it's not so much that [[spoiler: Mantis's spirit actually possessed her]] as it was that Screaming Mantis was injected with nanomachines that contained [[spoiler: portions of Psycho Mantis' psyche]].
%%* FlashStep: Complete with after-images.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Snake can't just shoot her; she'll just FlashStep out of the way and [[InterfaceScrew mess with Snake's nanomachines to screw up his aim]]. The only way to defeat Screaming Mantis is to [[spoiler:knock the Psycho Mantis doll out of her hand and use it against her. Ironic that it had to be the Mantis Doll, seeing how portions of his psyche were implanted into her via nanomachines.]]
* HumanShield: Screaming Mantis can telekinetically levitate people's bodies, and will use an entire roomful of people to block your bullets.
* MarionetteMotion: Her psychic powers look like marionette strings on the bodies she's controlling.
* NonIndicativeName: She doesn't scream as much as her name implies, [[EvilLaugh laughing]] just as often as she screams.
* PeoplePuppets: Screaming Mantis's power is to use the Psycho Mantis doll to control living bodies and The Sorrow doll to control corpses.
* PowerFloats: She is able to hover due to being [[spoiler:injected with nanomachines that contained portions of Psycho Mantis' psyche]].
* PsychicPowers: She possesses a level of telekinesis similar to Psycho Mantis, being able to hover, cause her blades to fly where she wanted, and rapidly transport in combination with melee attacks.
* PsychicAssistedSuicide: Using the same trick Psycho Mantis once did, Screaming Mantis seizes control of Meryl and attempts to get her to shoot herself.
* WalkingSpoiler: A minor one. [[spoiler: She's possessed by Psycho Mantis.]]

!!Liquid Ocelot's Outer Heaven
[[folder: Haven Troopers]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/haven_troopers.jpg]]
Liquid Ocelot's private military unit; a team of super-soldiers exclusively composed of women. They are nicknamed FROGS.
----
* AmazonBrigade: All FROGS are female.
* BodyguardBabes: Of both Liquid Ocelot and each B&B member.
* BondVillainStupidity: [[spoiler:A squad of them politely waits for Snake and Raiden to converse about philosophy for over two solid minutes whilst they have to the two outnumbered and cornered.]]
* CeilingCling / WallCrawl: Their gloves and boots make it so clinging onto walls like frogs takes no effort.
* ColdSniper: A good chunk of them are equipped with sniper rifles in Act 3, and make damn good usage of them against Snake and Big Mama.
* CutsceneIncompetence: During gameplay, the FROGS are formidable enemies due to their precision, numbers, and tactical retreats. However they are extremely unintelligent during cutscenes, ''especially'' in the penultimate area where they get gunned down by both Meryl and Johnny (the latter especially so, due to his lack of nanomachines).
* DistaffCounterpart: They're basically female versions of the Tengu from VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty.
* DoesNotLikeMen: They all have a chance of exclaiming "You men are all the same!" upon being groped by Snake.
* DoomTroops: An unusual female example of the trope. They are a fully armored and masked super-soldier military unit who are extremely agile and difficult to fight. It's clear that, whenever they show up, they mean ''business''.
* DrivenToMadness: By the end of ''Guns of the Patriots'', it's obvious all surviving FROGS have suffered heavy mental breakdowns thanks to the nanomachines getting shut down. One is even fearfully clutching and petting another at the end of the fifth act.
* EliteMooks: They're extremely formidable compared to all other mooks in the ''Metal Gear'' franchise (at the time), are dreaded by the Rat Patrol, and accompany the game's primary antagonists as personal bodyguards.
* EmotionlessGirl: Their nanomachines suppress their emotions so expressing or even experiencing fear and remorse on the battlefield is impossible. [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration This is present in gameplay]], as shown when they encounter emotive weaponry (such as the B&B magazines, the emotive ammo, and the Big Boss mask). Instead of exploding into an emotional fit like it would do to normal soldiers, they simply fall unconscious. Despite this, it's quite obvious they're afraid when being held up by Snake. They flinch and yelp in fear when Snake aims at their head and are even shaking at times.
* FacelessGoons: Their helmets completely hide their face, and unlike the Beauty and The Beast Unit, they never shown unmasked.
* FoeRomanceSubtext: During interrogation, it's possible to play with their breasts. Most responses are predictably disgusted or outraged, but some will say "Hey, you're pretty good at that..." or let out a moan as if she enjoys him touching her breasts.
* FrogNinja: With their superhuman ability to jump far and dangerous ability to take down foes like "FROGS".
* GasMaskMook: Subverted. Their strange headgear looks like a gas mask, but they're likely just for intimidation, as they are vulnerable to gas grenades just like everyone else.
* HonorBeforeReason: Before Snake goes deeper into Outer Haven's room where the Patriots systems are, a Haven Trooper is about to gun down Snake (who is suffering from a sudden attack) with a [=P90=], but, rather than finishing him there, decides to holster her primary weapon in favor of drawing a machete (viewing him as an easy kill at that point). [[spoiler:When Raiden shows up in the nick of time, the FROGS all allow the two to have a short conversation, before engaging the cyborg ninja after Snake left to the microwave room.]]
* InASingleBound: Their nanomachines allow them to leap amazing heights.
* MacheteMayhem: Will draw machetes in close-quarters.
* MeaningfulName: With their green exoskeletons, wall-crawling, and amazing jumping, it's no wonder almost everyone calls them [[FrogNinja FROGS]].
* NoBodyLeftBehind: A few seconds after death, their internal nanomachines combust, making their corpses dissolve into ash.
* PervertRevengeMode: Should the player body search them at the crotch, it will turn into a grope, to which the Trooper responds to with a kick that sends you flying. They may even yell "Pervert!" as they do so. However, touching their breasts may sometimes make them moan or compliment you.
* SpyCatSuit: They all wear skintight, greyish-green jumpsuits, likely for agility purposes.
* SuperSoldier: Thanks to their nanomachines, they were the most lethal mooks faced in the series until the Parasite Unit showed up in ''[[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain The Phantom Pain]]''.
* YouAreNumberSix: A closer look at the right side of their helmets shows their unit designation number painted on. Numbers displayed are 67, 03, 54, 14, 57 and 56.

[[folder: Gekko/IRVING]]
An offshot of both Metal Gear REX and RAY, Gekkos are small AI-controlled mechas used by various [=PMCs=] as assault units and infantry support.
----
* ActionBomb: Suicide Gekkos have no weapons, instead carrying demolition charges to self-detonate.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Their organic legs give them unparalleled mobility and speed, but they can be tranquilized. Likewise, the intensive efforts of the legs result in quick lactic acid buildup that they have to purge from their systems. Lastly, their sensors are not protected and can be spinned around, making them dizzy (despite being robots).
* CombatTentacles: Their manipulator tentacle can be also used to restrain, impale or whip their targets.
* ExtremityExtremist: Their legs are ''strong''. One kick can reduce a human to mush or flip over an IFV without any trouble.
* HellIsThatNoise: They mimic cows and crickets to communicate and cause enemies to lower their guard.
* NightVisionGoggles: As their main camera/eye on the top of their head is equipped with thermal-imaging vision, this makes any use of [[InvisibilityCloak Stealth Camouflage]] effectively useless, only the [[StealthyCephalopod OctoCamo]] can completely fool it, since not only does it mimic the colors of the surroundings, but also applies the exact same temperature as the surroundings it blends into, thus allowing it to bypass the Gekko's vision.
* ItCanThink: Gekkos are much smarter than they look, being able to deduce the presence of nearby enemies by picking up a still-lit cigarette or use large enough ventilation shafts or elevators for surprise attacks or reaching places one wouldn't expect them to.
* LightningBruiser: They can run faster than any human, leap atop small buildings ''and'' soak up RPG fire.
* MiniMecha: They are ''much'' smaller than a traditional Metal Gear, and are comparable to an APC in role. They are compact enough to be transported on trucks.
* OrganicTechnology: While their tops look almost exactly like REX, their bottoms are made of stem cell-based artificial muscle. This, unfortunately, means that they are susceptible to anesthetic rounds, temporarily immobilizing them until they can recover.
* VocalDissonance: It's pretty surreal on its own to hear any kind of organic "voice" being produced from a mecha as big as Gekkos come, and you probably wouldn't expect them to moo like cows and chirp like cicadas. According to Kojima, the origin of these sounds was [[InvokedTrope to purposefully invoke this trope]] -- in Japan, cicadas are often associated with peaceful summers and cows of pastoral arcadia, so the sounds create a false sense of security to encourage soldiers to lower their guards before rolling in for the kill.

[[folder: '''Outer Haven''']]
A massive submersible battleship based on the Arsenal Gear, built by the Patriots and later stolen by Liquid Ocelot to serve as his main base of operations.
----
* MeaningfulName: Both in reference to Outer Heaven and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_haven data havens]].
* ReforgedIntoAMinion: The remains of GW, Arsenal's Gear original AI, has been salvaged by Liquid and used to rebuild it, using it to infiltrate the Patriot AI network.
