A 19-year-old boy who's just entering college for the first time after having to spend a year in rehab due to a near-fatal fall off a bridge the day after his graduation, which gave him severe retrograde amnesia.
----
* AmnesiacDissonance: Before his amnesia, he was an angsty wimp. Post-amnesia, he has become a natural leader, defined by a strong will and extreme cleverness.
* AmnesiacsAreInnocent: Especially his post-amnesia self.
* AmnesiacHero: He fell off a bridge and suffered a severe head wound that gave him almost total amnesia and loss of personality. His originally personality is actually still intact, but completely separated from the new one.
* BlankSlate: Banri seems to have been one after the accident that gave him amnesia, but by the time of the series, he has developed a cheerful, mischievously crafty personality (that hides his angst and obsession with his past). Ironically, it's completely different from his pre-amnesia disposition.
* BerserkButton: His past or lost memories can be a big sour point with him. As is people leading him on [[spoiler: such as Linda in regards to his feelings and past, or Kouko when she wants them to be JustFriends after his confession and still doesn't seem to have gotten over Mitsuo.]]
* BrokenBird: Tends to become a rare male version of this at certain points, particularly when his amnesia or the resurgence of lost memories becomes overwhelming. In stark contrast to his usual demeanour, he becomes withdrawn, timid, antisocial, and, if the people around him don't realise what's going on fast enough to break him out of it, suicidal.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Nana[=/=]Linda, though his post-amnesia self doesn't remember anymore.
* ConsummateLiar: The lie he used to fool the ScamReligion was extremely convincing. [[spoiler:[[AmnesiacHero Until it's revealed that it was all true.]] ]]
* {{Crossdressing}}: Dresses as a maid in episodes 11-12.
* DeathOfPersonality: What he fears will be his eventual fate and what he feels already took place once before. He confides in Kouko that his family and friends treat his current post-amnesia self like a stranger due to the AmnesiacDissonance between his new and old personalities. Part of the reason he moved away was because they all wanted Old Banri back. However, he fears regaining his memories would essentially kill the current version of him to restore the pre-amnesia version. This fear is ultimately vindicated when [[spoiler:he starts to have blackouts and the pre-amnesia Banri starts taking back over.]]
* DoggedNiceGuy: Played straight in regards to his past feels for Linda when they were in high school, and subverted with Kouko in the present.
** Back in high school before he lost his memories, Banri was hopelessly in love with Linda and hoped they she would eventually return his feelings. When he finally worked up the nerves to confess his feelings, she told him to give her another day before giving a proper answer, but it eventually lead to his accident that caused him to lose his feelings.
** In the present, Banri ends up developing feelings for Kouko and tells her as such, but beause she's not over Mitsuo, she completely ignores the confession and proclaims them to be [[JustFriends Dear Friends]] instead. Unfortunately, Kouko's idea of friendship is more along the lines of making Banri her LivingEmotionalCrutch and he reaches his breaking point when she tries to drag him along to wallow in her sorrows after Mitsuo confessed to Chinami.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: Nearly jumps off a bridge at the end of Episode 6. Fortunately, Kouko stops him.]]
* EnemyWithin: [[spoiler: Later in the story, when the SplitPersonalityTakeover doesn't pan out, the older personality resolves to ruin Banri's life by influencing his decisions, or at least ruining his plans, such as making it rain and heavy traffic on the day they went to the beach. Old Banri seems to have given up around episode 18/19, a few episodes after his "curse" nearly caused several of them to die.]]
* GuileHero: Banri is incredibly quick thinking and frequently saves his friends from trouble or emotional turmoil with just a few words or a single well-placed action.
** Examples include saving Mitsuo from embarrassment by turning Kokou's assault-by-bouquet into a rose giveaway, saving his friends from a cult by pretending to want to be a cult member and getting his friends sent off for distracting him, or distracting Kokou and Mitsuo from their HeroicBSOD by tossing them into [[HardDrinkingPartyGirl "hell"]].
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: Not yet, but got engaged with Koko in the finale.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Mitsuo.
* LikeYouWereDying: [[spoiler: When his memories and past personality begin returning with more frequency, Banri begins to believe that his present self will simply fade away and tries to make his supposed last days as comfortable happy as possible both for himself and his friends.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight: Toward Kouko in the very first episode.
* MrFanservice: Episode 15. Highlights include him wearing a small and tight speedo in the rain, a swimsuit on the beach, and just being shirtless in the car.
* NiceGuy: His post-amnesia self.
* NormallyIWouldBeDeadNow: It's a miracle Banri survived the hard fall, since, as shown in a flashback in Episode 4, he fell headfirst from a pretty massive height and had lost a lot of blood.
* TheReliableOne:
** He is a kind, sociable and friendly guy who will not hesitate to help his friends in need, making his bouts with mental illness particularly glaring and painful;
** Subverted in the case of his personality before the accident, which shows that he was rather wimpy and unreliable (though not less kind or friendly).
* ShirtlessScene: Episodes 2 and 15.
* SmarterThanYouLook: His gentle personality doesn't stop Banri from being one of the smartest people in his group of friends.
* SplitPersonality: It's shown early on that somewhere in the back of his head, the Banri from before the accident is still alive and aware of his new personality's life. [[spoiler: In the anime's 8th episode, the old personality starts trying to take over because the current personality is in a relationship with Kouko while the old one holds a torch for Linda.]]
* SplitPersonalityTakeover: [[spoiler: And succeeds at the end of episode 9, just when the old Banri had accepted that he and Linda would never be together.]]
* [[spoiler: StepfordSmiler]]
* ThousandYardStare: He does this in episode 20, [[spoiler:after his memories return once again while in the middle of dance during a festival. The last thing he suddenly remembers was waiting for Linda on the bridge, so when he suddenly finds himself in the middle of the festival, he understandably freaks out and runs off.]]
** And again in episode 21, [[spoiler:after Koko breaks up with him. It's implied he's left [[HeroicBSOD standing there]] for ''hours'' from the shock.]]
* TraumaCongaLine: Episode 20 kicks off one in the form of [[spoiler:the consequences of Banri's memories returning and his secrecy about the whole situation starting to pile up]], with a whole slew of other hardships to boot. [[spoiler: He briefly lapses into [[DrivenToSuicide suicidal territory,]] but [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Nana]] is there to talk him through the despair.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: In episode 19, Banri calls Linda out for giving Mitsuo the cold shoulder.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:Present Banri comes to believe this as his memories and old personality begin to return with more frequency.]]

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koukokaga_7593.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuiHorie (Japanese), Creator/ChristinaKelly (English)

A wealthy, beautiful girl and heiress to a hospital magnate, as well as Mitsuo's childhood friend, from whom she forcibly extracted a marriage promise back in their childhood.
----
* TheAce: She's good at many things. Dancing, however, is not one of her specialties.
* AlliterativeName: '''K'''ouko '''K'''aga
* AllWomenLoveShoes: Kouko is always wearing fancy, high-heeled shoes.
* AttractivenessIsolation: So beautiful that other girls envy her and boys feel inadequate.
* BarelyThereSwimwear: Kouko's Latin-American Bikini in episode 14, even though it isn't as skimpy as other examples. Lampshaded by Chinami.
* TheBeautifulElite: Kouko is presented as being rich, drop-dead gorgeous, and quite fashionable. Though this also partly results in her being a LonelyRichKid.
* BreakTheHaughty: On one hand, Kouko deserved a verbal beatdown from Mitsuo for her borderline stalking and harassing Chinami just because Mitsuo was so nice to her; on the other hand she got hosed down so badly she is reduced to a tearful mess.
** Happens again, only without the haughtiness when [[spoiler:fall asleep at the wheel and gets into an accident. It got worse when Chinami got injured in the process.]]
* BrokenTears: She finally scampers Mitsuo to meet with everyone so that [[spoiler:Banri can explain to them what's happening to him; then, they encounter Banri going through a disoriented crisis and he doesn't recognize them at all, running away terrified. Once Linda finally finds him and puts him on a cab to head home, he catches a glimpse of Kouko standing on the street, wailing inconsolably at having seen Banri gone completely off the rails]].
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Often the Boke to Chinami's Tsukkomi.
* CantHoldHerLiquor: Seen after her "run-in" with the Tea Club in episode 6. Much more evident in the Light Novel and Manga.
* CharacterDevelopment: This is uniquely [[JustifiedTrope justified]]: she was always a NiceGirl at heart, but her LoveFreak status caused a cavalcade of various personality flaws: impulsiveness despite her better judgment, pushiness leading to stalking, boundless haughtiness when driven to jealousy, and a drive for perfection such that she sometimes forgets that other people have different ways to be happy too. When confronted by her flaws, she's quick to realize and understand what went wrong and what she did wrong, and immediately goes to change that about herself. This is best shown in episode 4, as she's forced to realize she put her happiness above her crush's and learns to both get over her clinginess and tone down her stalking habits and LoveFreak tendencies. She's still quite strange, bombastic, and more than a little haughty at times, but [[NiceGirl her genuine kindness, ceaseless loyalty, and strong empathy for others]] even as far back as episodes 2 and 3 allow her to become a better person and friend to everyone around.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Mitsuo.
* ChewingTheScenery: Best seen in episode 5.
* ClassicalAntiHero: For all her talents, looks, and wealth, she's a complete screw-up.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She absolutely hates seeing other girls around Mitsuo, such as Chinami in episode 4. [[spoiler:Later she gets upset at Banri after she sees him with Linda at a club while posing in a very erotic position for patrons there.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Kouko's mind works very differently from most people. In Episode 5, after she gets essentially rejected by Mitsuo the previous episode, she sees him with Banri, her new best friend. She pretends Mitsuo's not even there, and instead goes on a long, bizarre tirade about how her previous life was that of a nun, Banri's previous life was that of a shepherd, and they were "destined" to meet and become friends because Shepherd Banri gave her... cheese. Only then does she acknowledge Mitsuo, whom she says was a wandering hunter who roamed the world, and surmises there's no way they were destined to meet. This after saying she and Mitsuo were destined to marry since they were childhood friends. This leaves Banri and Mitsuo [[StunnedSilence completely speechless and unable to process what in utter hell she's talking about.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: She's got long brown hair and wide brown eyes to match.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: She's the female lead, the heroine, and the other main character next to Banri, as a huge chunk of the story is ultimately about her and because of her.
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Her breakup with Banri in episodes 21 and 22 is this because she apparently can't stand Banri's mental breakdown anymore]]. The way she delivers the lines to Banri and the others makes her seem like a selfish person, to the point even Mitsuo does a WhatTheHellHero to her. She does come to regret acting this way however.
* {{Expy}}: She's a grown-up version of [[{{Characters/Toradora}} Taiga Aisaka]] from ''{{Literature/Toradora}}'' (if the latter had continued pursuing [[RomanticFalseLead Yuusaku Kitamura]]). They are both immaculately dressed rich girls with a penchant for overreacting, who have trouble making friends, are overtly self-conscious about their appearance, and whose love interests do not reciprocate their affections; they both have long brown hair and eyes and are [[SoBeautifulItsACurse uniquely beautiful in an inapproachable way]]; they also are about the same age (2 year difference give or take) and they both end up [[spoiler:falling in love with their crushes' best friends and are utterly unable to stop visiting the guys' apartments. To end things, they both end up engaged to the protagonists]]. Kouko and Taiga both have two left feet and are notoriously bad at the kitchen. The main differences lie in their body size (of course, since Taiga is '''tiny''') and in that Kouko herself is nowhere as violent or demeaning as Taiga nor she is as insecure. As a matter of fact, they are both characters penned by the same author.
* FirstGirlWins: [[spoiler: She is the first girl seen in the anime. If that wasn't enough of a clue, her interactions with Banri in the opening sequence makes it pretty obvious who she's going to end up with. Naturally things don't go smoothly for them but eventually they manage to patch things up.]]
* FoodSlap: [[spoiler: When she catches Banri and Linda in an erotic position at the club, she promptly grabs a patrons drink and splashes it in Banri's face. Then she gives him a slap.]]
* GratuitousEnglish: From time to time. [[spoiler: Especially prone to this after she and Banri become an OfficialCouple.]]
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: Not yet, but got engaged with Banri in the finale.]]
* HeelRealization: Even she realizes bullying Chinami may have been not the best idea. PlayedForLaughs in the anime, as she goes BlueWithShock, sweating all over. Then PlayedForDrama after Mitsuo dumps her, when she tearfully realizes how self-centered she is, having refused to even try to understand what turned him off up to that point.
* HiddenDepths: In spite of her stalkerish behavior and irascible nature, Kouko is a kind and loving girl, and a doting, dutiful partner in love for Banri.
** She's intensely devoted to the people she cares for, she has strong empathy even for people she actively dislikes, and she is quite friendly, understanding, and compassionate in most of her scenes - even if rather strange and flamboyant.
* HotBlooded: Despite her [[{{Ojou}} aura of sophistication]], Kouko is incredibly bombastic, loud, and frankly scary, and her intense force of personality is a source of comedy, drama, and general weirdness.
* ICantDance: One of her few flaws, besides her... social misunderstandings.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Kokou at her core is a kindhearted, outgoing, and empathic young woman who will do everything she can for those close to her. She's friendly, easy to get along with, quite understanding even if it takes her a while to get there, and is FunPersonified at her absolute best. Even at her worst, she'll always try to do better so she doesn't hurt other people, even if she can't stand them at first. For instance, after the rejection: she's still rather tense around Chinami - whom she's jealous of - and there's lingering unpleasantness with Mitsuo, but she cares about both and is largely willing to let bygones be bygones; their happiness is more important than hers.
* KickTheDog: Bullying Chinami out of jealousy over Mitsuo apparently getting too close to her. This is what finally prompts Mitsuo to tell her how he truly feels about her.
* LargeHam: She's extremely flamboyant and expressive, especially when it comes to love. [[spoiler:Best seen when she and Banri become an OfficialCouple, and where she opens her cardigan to 2D-kun, revealing a T-shirt with a large heart shape, along with an "I Love you" in English to Banri.]]
* LethalChef: Implied to be one in episode 13, when she attempts to cook for Banri. [[spoiler:She goes to great lengths to avoid him watching her cook, then it turns out her maid cooked the food she had, because the maid saw what a horrible time Kouko was having while doing it. And Banri sees it all anyway because the sleep mask she put on him slips down.]]
* LittleBlackDress: Wears a distinctly Audrey Hepburn inspired dress in episode 14, as well as her dress in episode 19.
* LonelyRichKid: Her single minded clinginess to Mitsuo prompts Banri to wonder if Kouko ever had any friends before. Turns out, she largely didn't, and still doesn't even in college, as many guys feel she's out of their league and the girls aren't enamored by her much on account of jealousy. She may say she's not interested in joining clubs, and may give all sorts of reasons why [[TsunDere she has no interest in having anyone besides a love interest, but she's lying]]; she's desperate for social interaction and companionship, and it takes a brutal rejection for her to start moving away from putting all her eggs in a romance basket.
* LoveConfession: [[spoiler:To Banri at the end of Episode 6.]]
* LoveFreak: Puts most of her self-worth into the idea of someone loving her, while completely dedicating herself to and obsessing over the man she loves.
** This ends up deconstructed thoroughly, showing just how disturbed someone would have to be for that to be their goal in life. In episode 4, she says the reason she runs fast, the reason she wants to be beautiful, and the reason she's such a perfectionist is because she loves Mitsuo, her childhood friend, but he doesn't love her back and she embellishes some of their memories as kids to try to justify that (like recalling he confessed to her, but he clarifies that was during a Christmas play and it wasn't actually a confession). After being rejected, Kouko wonders if none of their memories count for anything, because she doesn't understand how Mitsuo can and ''does'' think of her as special and important, but only as a friend. She's forced to realize she never took his happiness into account and eventually drops her pursuit of him shortly thereafter.
* LuminescentBlush: At least every other episode, you're gonna see her cheeks turn red over something romantic, embarrassing, or scary, no exceptions.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Part of what attracts Banri to her, as well as her [[MsFanservice gorgeous looks.]]
* MsFanservice: The series is pretty conservative with the ladies, but Kouko's stylish fashion sense and good looks make her stand out as a rather glamorous figure.
** Especially evident in episodes 14 and 15.
** And then Episode 18's bed scene although slighty ruined.
** The Visual Novel has her finally having her way with Banri, with a pair of CG featuring her wearing a ModestyBedsheet.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: In Episode 4, she blows up at Mitsuo for rejecting her, and screams at him, saying he should forget everything. She says this right in front of the amnesiac Banri, and not only does she immediately stop herself, she repeatedly and tearfully apologizes to him, who insists she doesn't have to worry about him. Later on in the same episode, she realizes she was prioritizing her happiness over Mituso's, because her perfectionism dictated if your crush doesn't love you back, you're worthless. She feels terrible about it and it is only then does she finally stop pursuing Mitsuo.
** [[spoiler:She goes through a serious bout of depression when she and her friends are involved in a traffic accident because she fell asleep at the wheel; had Banri not intervened during the accident, the car would have been sent into a cliff. Her depression is so bad that not even her dad can approach her until Banri is able to pull her out of her funk]].
* NiceGirl: See HiddenDepths above.
* NotSoAboveItAll: In episode 18, Kouko secretly goes through Banri's mail, and then enters his apartment. She starts acting a bit weird, and then notices Nana watching her from outside the door and freaks out.
* ObliviouslyBeautiful: To a certain extent. While Kouko prioritizes being beautiful so as to be the perfect woman, she is unaware of the effect her looks have on others and how it leads to AttractivenessIsolation.
* {{Ojou}}: She's a rich heiress to the owner of a private hospital, beautiful and stylish with a perfectionist streak.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: [[spoiler: To Banri, after he breaks off his friendship with her in episode 6 when she still seems to be stuck on Mitsuo. It's also partly what causes her LoveConfession.]]
** [[spoiler: Another instance of this in episode 12, where she pleads with Banri to forget about his past and lost memories so that he won't leave her for Linda.]]
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: With several of her outfits.
* ReadyForLovemaking: [[spoiler: Kouko wears a pretty sexy dress in episode 19, and as evidenced by her actions later in the episode, this was probably the intention.]]
* RichBitch: Initially, though she eventually grows out of it.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Since the Kaga family donates money to schools, Kouko uses these connections to find out where Mitsuo would go.
* SeriesMascot: She's the most prominent character in promotional material and art (probably because she has the most reason to wear something eye-catching).
* ShooTheDog: [[spoiler: Kouko's solution to Banri's growing identity crisis due to his returning memories is to cut things off with him. She then takes it a step further by becoming hostile to their mutual friends and even quitting the Festival Club.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan:[[spoiler: One of the reasons why she later falls in love with Banri.]]
* SlidingScaleOfBeauty: Distinctly a level II World Class Beauty, but her looks are also sometimes described as being on the same level as a level I Divine Beauty.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: She's an item for the campus from the get-go, but people don't approach her because they think that she's well above their status. Bar Banri and Mitsuo, she has a considerable difficulty making friends at school.
* SpoiledBrat: Shades of this. Kouko is far from the mature woman her looks portray her as which is potentially a result of her rich upbringing. [[spoiler: Justified and referenced after she falls asleep on the wheel and causes an accident. Her father dealing with the aftermath and the costs of it causes her to realize just how immature she is, and how she's still not really an adult. Banri tries to reassure her about this by citing the fact that she's still barely out of high school.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: Towards Mitsuo. Later on, somewhat towards Banri, but she tries to tone it down after learning her lesson with Mitsuo.
* StockShoujoBullyingTactics: Kouko pulls this on Chinami in episode 4, [[KickTheDog aggressively insulting her and even stomping on her foot]] for getting close to Mitsuo. It reaches a point where Chinami was moments from running away and crying until Mitsuo intervenes and calls Kouko out.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** [[spoiler: After both saving Banri from jumping off (yet) another bridge and confessing to him, Kouko is arrested and escorted to the police station because she stole a bike to catch up to him.]]
** [[spoiler: She realizes how out of her element she is, and how unprepared she actually is for the trials and tribulations of adult life when she almost costs the lives of her and her friends by having fallen asleep at the wheel during their beach trip; Banri even tells her that, to be fair, she's barely out of high school in the first place]].
* ThousandYardStare: [[spoiler:Two heartbreaking Instances in episode 12, both when she sees Banri and Linda together in a very erotic position at the club, and later when Banri reveals that he has moments where his memories come back and he feels as though he's in love with Linda.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: No, she doesn't want to be friends with Miss Ultrasonic.
* UndyingLoyalty: Her dedication to the man she loves knows no bounds, and [[DeconstructedTrope sometimes that's not always a good thing]]. It's when she realizes you can be devoted to someone who doesn't love you romantically that she learns to both tone it down and expand her devotion to everyone else.
* UnlimitedWardrobe: You'll find Kouko in at least one new, fashionable, and attractive outfit every episode.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Towards Mitsuo, as he is [[NoGuyWantsToBeChased turned off]] by her aggressive pursuit.
* VitriolicBestFriends: She gradually starts to warm up to Chinami, [[spoiler:largely after both of them spot Mitsuo going into a restaurant with Linda in episode 14, a sight neither one of them seemed happy to see.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler:2D-kun grills her in the final episode after she learns that he was behind "her" emails to Banri; he argues that Kouko should be proverbially turning the world upside down for the man she loves, while all she's been doing is sleeping on the laurels]].
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: In episode 18, she tackles Nana after rejecting the latter's job offer, and then puts her in a sleeper hold while begging her not to tell Banri about the crazy things she did in his apartment while he was away. Nana, not being able to breathe, agrees quickly to it.
* WrongGenreSavvy: She once thought Mitsuo was a hardcore Type-A {{Tsundere}} who would eventually come around if she stalked him long enough.
* WorldsMostBeautifulWoman: She's the most attractive character in the series and is treated as such by the rest of the cast, even if it does alienate people.

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitsuoyanagisawa_6665.jpg]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KaitoIshikawa (Japanese), Creator/AdamGibbs (English)

Mitsuo (or Yana) is Banri and Kouko's classmate, and Kouko's childhood friend.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Helps out the Festival Club in episode 23, so that they can have uniforms for their performance during the festival. He also helps reassure Banri that he'll always be there for him, even if Banri loses his memories.]]
* BrutalHonesty: Tells Kouko in no certain terms how he doesn't want to see her anymore.
* ChickMagnet: He is hit on first by Kouko, and later a random college student shortly after Chinami turns him down. Then when he goes to film the club Banri, Kouko, and Linda are in for a documentary, two of the female students ask him if he's dating anyone. After Kouko suggests they go out for some tea to distract him from Banri and Linda, the two girls clutch his arm and insist on going with him too.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Kouko.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Banri.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: In Episode 5, he admits to Banri that he ran his mouth off against Kouko without realizing how much he hurt her. He's aware of it, and it also hurts him.
* JustFriends: Even though he avoids Kouko with a passion, he considers the girl a dear friend, so he's always at odds when he has to be blunt to keep her away.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Mitsuo enrolls in a school in Tokyo, causing him to strain his relationship with his parents in the process, all for the sole sake of avoiding Kouko. He did so under the belief that Kouko would have a negative impact on his social life. Of course he only ends up making an ass out of himself by making a public confession to Chinami only to get shotdown, leading to him becoming a talking point for a lot of the students on campus.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Not done on purpose, but he seemed unaware of Banri's amnesia until around episode 17, when he notices Linda's ticket to go back home, and remembers Banri telling him he was from the same city. He starts asking various characters about it, but none of them seem to give him a straight or complete answer about it.
* ManlyTears: [[spoiler:During the prep for the Festival Club's last presentation, he openly cries telling Banri that he finally learned about the brain damage that he's is going through, swearing to Banri that he has his full support]].
* MrFanservice: Episodes 11 and 12, especially the latter one, where he works at a club party wearing nothing but a thong. Later he's put on stage and poses for the patrons. And then we have episode 15 on the beach...
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: Part of the reason he tries to escape Kouko. The other part is that being chased would have led to being controlled and manipulated into what is essentially a trophy-husband.
* ObliviousToLove:[[spoiler:Is completely unaware that Chinami is genuienely in love with him, though this is partly because she rejected his LoveConfession.]]
* OhCrap: His reaction on Episode 1 when he realizes not only has Kouko tailed him in Fukurai, but also managed to land in the same class as him and Banri, and again in Episode 5, when Linda tells him how much of a SadistTeacher his civil law advisor is.
* RageBreakingPoint: Kouko bullying Chinami out of jealousy.
* ShirtlessScene: In episodes 11,12 and 15.
* PairTheSpares: [[spoiler:Implied with Linda at the end of episode 24.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: Mitsuo is happy to learn when Banri and Kouko are finally dating, both because he thanks they would actually make a good couple and especially because [[NoGuyWantsToBeChased Kouko would finally stop harrassing him]].
* {{Tsundere}}: Assumed by Kouko to be Type-A regarding herself. In reality, he's more of a Platonic Type-B -- generally nice to everyone, but tends to be mean towards Kouko ([[NoGuyWantsToBeChased though with good reason]]). Nevertheless, he does show some concern for her well-being as her childhood friend.

A second-year student and member of the Japanese Festival Club. She is also Banri's old friend from their high-school days, though he doesn't realize this at first due to his amnesia.
----
* AlternateCharacterReading: The first kanji which makes up her surname can also be read as "rin" (which is the on'yomi reading), thus her nickname.
* CannotSpitItOut: [[spoiler:Her biggest flaw. She was never able to answer Banri's feelings towards her during high school and when she meets him again after his amnesia, she keeps quiet about their original relationship. Even when it seems like she could have genuine romantic feelings for him, she completely denies them when Banri directly asks her.]] [[spoiler: Subverted, finally, in episode 24.]]
* ChildhoodFriends: With Banri.
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: [[spoiler: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] as Banri didn't actually die, but her guilt over his amnesia pretty much halted any potential relationship development Linda made in her own life. It's not until the end of the series where Linda finally makes peace with the past that it hints that [[MaybeEverAfter she may be starting something with Mitsuo.]]]]
* GuiltComplex: [[spoiler:She feels like she is responsible for Banri's amnesia.]]
* HopelessSuitor: She knows she's going well into this territory, due to Banri's amnesia and budding romance with Kouko. [[spoiler:Though it turns out that back in their high school days it was the other way around -- Banri was hopelessly in love with her, while Linda was ambivalent, which she believes indirectly led to the accident that gave him amnesia. Seeing him in love again seems have brought up insecurities related to that, rather than jealousy or romantic feelings. Episode 12 throws her thoroughly into the latter trope, as Banri wants to sever all romantic notions with her, largely to not upset Kouko. While she seems to agree to it, the look on her face suggests she's heartbroken by his response.]]
* MsFanservice: In episodes 11-12, both she and Nana wear very attractive devil outfits [[spoiler: at the same club Banri comes to work at.]]
* NiceGirl: Tries to be one.
* OddFriendship: She's friends with the punk rocker Nana. She tells Banri that Nana used to be in the festival club when she first joined, but eventually quit due to work and her band. But they still hang out together.
* SecretKeeper: As the only person who knows Banri's pre-amnesia history. [[spoiler:In a FlashBack, she also knows about her brother's fiance's romantic indiscretion, and ultimately seems to not tell him about it in exchange for her staying faithful to him.]]
* PairTheSpares: [[spoiler:Implied with Mitsuo at the end of episode 24.]]
* ThousandYardStare: Just watch the poor girl's face [[spoiler: when Banri reveals that he found out about the situation the two were in before his amnesia.]]
* TomboyishPonytail: In her high school years.

Another first year, who looks too young for her age.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: She was originally a brunette in the light novels. The anime made her hair pink.
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Often the Tsukkomi to Kouko's Boke.
* CannotSpitItOut: It's strongly hinted that she likes Mitsuo, but can't bring herself to tell him. Even when he gives her a LoveConfession, she turns him down. To be fair, he asks on a dare from Kouko, and says it in a restaurant, which may have caused Chinami to be a little hesitant at being put on the spot like that. [[spoiler:This comes back to haunt her after he starts to show interest in Linda.]]
* CuteButCacophonic: Her voice is relatively high-pithced, hence her nickname "Miss Ultrasonic."
* TheCutie
* DeadpanSnarker: A somewhat mild example, as she is remarkably quick to point out the logical gaps that her friends tend to make, usually defusing Kouko's angry tirades against her rather effortlessly.
* EntitledToHaveYou: [[spoiler: Chinami starts to act more frosty towards Mitsuo after he ends up moving on starts dating Linda. It turns out that she developed her own feelings for him after his first time asking her out went so poorly, but because she sat on them for so long, Mitsuo eventually moved on.]]
* GreenEyedEpiphany: [[spoiler:In episode 20, for Mitsuo. Though she knew this before but didn't tell anyone until she confessed to Banri about it in episode 21.]]
* ImportantHaircut: She shortens her hair in episode 19. She laments that all the guys think she should've kept it long however. [[spoiler:She tells Banri she regrets cutting it in episode 21, since it changed her looks considerably, and isn't entirely sure why she did it in the first place, since she kept her hair long for years. It's implied that she cut it to look like Linda, whom Mitsuo is pursuing]].
* InSeriesNickname: Miss Ultrasonic, in reference to her voice, and used exclusively by Kouko. Curiously enough, she also looks like the eponymous titular character of ''Anime/SuperSonico'', though she's considerably less voluptuous (though this applies to her anime-only pink hair).
* InnocentlyInsensitive: She had no idea how much her rejection affected Mitsuo; considering that he confessed in front of a bunch of people at a party, she understandably didn't take him seriously and was expecting for him to maybe try again later... only that his confession at the time ''was the real deal''. It's not until [[spoiler:she sees him dining with Linda]] that she realizes how badly she screwed up.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler:She gets mad at Banri in episode 19 when she sees him getting a little too friendly with Linda. She tells him to stop it, because that's the girl Mitsuo likes now, and she doesn't want him interfering.]]
** [[spoiler:In episode 21 she reveals that she was actually secretly happy when she saw Linda and Banri talking. She admits to Banri that she hoped the two would date, so that Mitsuo would be free again, and she'd snatch him up this time.]]
* LoveHurts: While Chinami understandably shoots down Mitsuo for putting her on the spot when he asked her out, she also sits on her feelings expecting him to wait for her until she is finally ready to start dating. [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome Mitsuo doesn't]].
* NiceGirl: Even when Kouko was hostile to her she was still rather nice to the former. She rarely gets mad at anyone and usually [[TenderTears break in down in tears]] when upset.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She's generally somewhat mature, but once in a while will do silly things with the others, such as making goofy faces in front of her camera.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Chinami looks more like a middle-school kid than a college freshman.
* OnlySaneMan: When paired with Kouko.
* TokenMiniMoe: She really doesn't look her age, and so do several of the characters she voices.
* TookALevelInJerkass: She becomes openly hostile towards Banri from episode 19 till 21 after seeing him getting a little too friendly with Linda. [[spoiler:She reveals to him that she was really upset at herself for missing her opportunity to get with Mitsuo, and was secretly happy when she saw them together. But she tells him that instead of getting mad at herself, she took it out on him instead, and admits to Banri that she still loves Mitsuo.]]
* VitriolicBestFriends: With Kouko, [[spoiler:who gradually warms up to her after they spot Mitsuo going into a restaurant with Linda, a sight neither of them seemed happy to see.]]

An otaku freshman with virtually no interest in real-life girls.
----
* AdaptedOut: His "2D Girlfriend" VJ, who doesn't appear in the anime but does appear in the novels and manga. Will appear in the Golden Time Vita game, played by none other than Creator/RieKugimiya
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler: Is the one who ultimately pushes Kouko to go after Banri, even after he's lost his memories, in episode 24.]]
* DayInTheLimelight: Becomes the main character in his own spinoff novel.
* FireForgedFriends: He becomes friends with Banri after both of them are dragged into the tea club's party, and later on, the cult initiation.
* TheHeart: He spends a considerable effort keeping the group together and prevents them from drifting apart too far. The guy just ''loves'' his friends.
* InformedAbility: His love of 2D girls over real girls. Then again, when you're around a girl like [[MsFanservice Kouko Kaga...]]
* ManlyTears: [[spoiler:He tears up together with the group when they face the fact that Banri lost all of his memories of them]].
* MrFanservice: Like Banri and Mitsuo , he also gets his share in episode 2 in a wrestling watch with Banri and in episode 15 with Banri and Mitsuo on the beach and in the rain.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:It's shown on the final episode that he'd been trying to make amends for abandoning Banri to the cultists, this being his main drive to get him and Kouko together again by forging love emails from her to Banri]].
* NiceGuy: While initially a little bashful, it's shown that he is the person that worries the most about the cohesiveness of the group as a whole, and tries his very best to keep them together.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Downplayed; while his real name is known, virtually no one addresses him as such.
* {{Otaku}}: Wouldn't be nicknamed "2D-kun" otherwise.
* ShipperOnDeck: Though he's not quite interested in girls himself, he cherishes Banri and Kouko's relationship to no end, [[spoiler:and becomes the main catalyst for their reuniting]].
* ShirtlessScene: Episodes 2 and 15.

Banri's next door neighbor and friend of Linda. Also leads has a rock band.
----
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She tries to remain as distant from drama as possible.
* BrutalHonesty: She has time for neither subtleties nor pussyfooting. If she wants to get a point across, she'll punch her way in.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Manga/{{Nana}} Nana Osaki]], complete with short black hair.
* GoodIsNotNice: She always gives good advice, but she's not particularly delicate about it.
* HellBentForLeather: Her usual attire.
* ImStandingRightHere: She looks different enough not to be recognized without her makeup, so Kouko and Banri have no idea of who she is until she points it out later complaining that they both ignored her.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While she seems rude, she does help take Banri to the hospital when he's sick. She also later helps him get a job secretly after Kouko adamantly refused to let him work.
* OhCrap: She drops her aloof attitude towards Banri when she realizes that he is mentally ill and in dire need of her help and support.
* OneSteveLimit: Played with. Linda's name is actually Nana (but no one calls her that), while Nana's name is never revealed.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Her name is never mentioned, so everyone calls her Nana.
* {{Tsundere}}: A [[TheNotLoveInterest platonic one]] when it comes to her relationship with Banri. Despite her initial antagonistic behavior [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold she's quick to help Banri out in any time of need]], being the one to take him to the hospital when he almost passes out and when she notices he's depressed after a near fatal car accident, invites him to one of her concerts to try and cheer him up.
