!!Gokudo Yuccot Kikansky
!!! Voiced by Creator/AkiraIshida (JP), Daniel Kevin Harrison (EN)

A young adventurer and swordsman who wants nothing more out of life than treasure and hot babes. Rude, ambitious, selfish, and reckless, he's nonetheless a skilled swordsman.
----
* AllMenArePerverts: He's a pervert who's a sucker for hot women.
* BadassCape: Wears a red one as part of his adventurer outfit.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: At the end of the first arc, he owns the kingdom alongside his brother and finally reaps the fortune and fame that comes with it... as well as a long list of royal customs he's required to follow. [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere He decides to book it]] and continue going on adventures.
* BerserkButton: Although a lot of things piss him off, one surefire way to get him really pissed off is hurting his allies.
* BigEater: He'll gladly devour entire plates of food if they're in front of him.
* ButtMonkey: He often has it coming, but he's a magnet of misfortune and his allies tend to rub it in.
* ButThouMust: Attempted on him many times, with varying results.
* TheChosenOne: Gokudo is often at the center of numerous prophecies that he wants nothing to do with.
* DontYouDarePityMe: He really doesn't like it when others feel sorry for him or try to help him.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Gokudo believes that he deserves praise and recognition for his skills, (self-proclaimed) cool attitude, and good looks, but often gets mocked or dismissed by others.
* EvilTwin: Gokudo is this to his brother.
* {{Fartillery}}: One of Gokudo's lethal attacks. It's enough to revive anyone who's knocked unconscious.
* FreudianExcuse: He tells Djinn early on that no one's ever helped or looked after him, so he's only looking out for himself and will take what he can get by whatever means necessary. Toward the finale, he also mentions that he's never felt happier in his life because he's never gotten anything he wanted.
* {{Gasshole}} :He is singlehandedly the source of all the fart jokes in the show.
* GenderBender: Ends up with a girl's body at least twice, and that runs at least half of the anime's run.
* GenderBenderAngst: Gokudo does not enjoy being a girl at all, especially for long periods of time unless he can find a way to benefit from it.
* {{Greed}}: Whenever he comes across a treasure vault, it will always be missing something by the time he's done with it.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Gokudo never hesitates to use his allies, sacrifice them, bail out on them, join the villains, and makes no apologies for everything bad he does. And it's a huge source of the series' comedy.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He's extremely selfish and thinks his problems outweigh everyone else's. So what if the kingdom is in danger? He's hungry!
* JerkassHasAPoint: He's an unapologetic {{Jerkass}}, but he can raise good points once in a while, like how he convinced Miroku that he shouldn't have to concern himself with what others want of him and should do what he wants.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Gokudo doesn't care about anyone else, will gladly use his teammates if he has any use for them, and run out on them if he doesn't. There are also many times where the others assume he'll do the right thing by fighting for the greater good and saving his friends. He often uses his friends or does something to make things worse.
* LaserGuidedKarma: To say Gokudo is Karma's bitch is putting it mildly. EVERY bad thing he does gets returned to him ten fold in the most dissatisfying way possible.
* MeaningfulName: Translated, "Gokudo" means "extreme path" and "wicked". He defies the gods because he wants to be in charge of his own destiny, and his methods definitely put his heroics into question.
* NominalHero: Sure, Gokudo fights against corrupt gods and the forces of evil, but not because it's the right thing to do. It's usually because of some kind of reward, his personal benefit, or they end up pissing him off too much.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler: After Granny attacks his party towards the end, Gukudo becomes enraged that she hurt the people he calls his "friends"]].
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to his brother's blue. Seigi is polite, well-mannered, and wants to do the right thing, while Gokudo is rude, selfish, and doesn't care about anyone else. Gokudo's sword also unleashes fire while Seigi's sword releases ice.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Attempted many times but always forced back into the plot. Though interestingly enough, his reluctance to go along with the quests laid out for him leads him to save the day in ways most people wouldn't think.
* ShutUpKirk: Many characters try to give him lectures on morality, heroics, and happiness, and he tells them to shut up every time.
* SkinnyDipping: Tends to throw his clothes away whenever he goes swimming.
* TokenEvilTeammate: He's by far the least heroic of the bunch.
* UngratefulBastard: He never thanks anyone for helping him or saving him, something Djinn calls him out for, but there are exceptions.
* UnresolvedSexualTension: With Rubette. They constantly get into fights with each other, and whenever Gokudo tries flirting with her, he ends up getting kicked for it.
* UnwantedAssistance: He prefers to do things by himself, doesn't like being helped, and sees the members of his party as a nuisance.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Rubette and Djinn.
* WouldHitAGirl: He knocks female!Djinn around constantly, doesn't hesitate to knock out Rubette or think twice about sacrificing her if he benefits from it.
* WhatTheHellHero: Constantly on the receiving end of this by the entire cast, by villains and friends alike.

!!Rubette La Lette
!!! Voiced by Sayuri Yoshida (JP), Debora Rabbai (EN)

A young princess who ends up joining Gokudo seeking the thrill of adventure.
----
* ActionGirl: She can easily hold her own in a fight whether it's using her fists or weapons.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: [[spoiler: Gives Gokudo a smooch on the cheek at the end of the anime]].
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She wants to be an adventurer like Gokudo, but in the end of the anime, she becomes a fugitive on the run instead.
* BigDamnHeroes: Comes to Gokudo's rescue from time to time, and he does not like it when someone takes away his spotlight.
* BigNo: Her initial reaction when she finds out she's [[spoiler: trapped inside of Djinn's body]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: She shows signs of this whenever another girl has eyes on Gokudo, such as Princess Coco.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Gokudo, including her hairstyle and [[GuysSmashGirlsShoot fighting capability]].
* DreadfulMusician: Rubette has a VERY bad singing voice.
* DudeMagnet: She's a gorgeous girl who quickly captures the hearts of men. Gokudo tries to take full advantage of this [[spoiler: when he's in her body]].
* EpicFail: When she finds herself trapped [[spoiler:in Djinn's body]] in the fourth arc, she tries using his spellbook to turn herself into a dragon. [[spoiler: She ends up turning herself into some short, weird elephant penguin hybrid with a mohawk instead.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: She'll always call out Gokudo on his bad behavior, but she's not above taking food and treasure that isn't hers. She often gets a pass because of how nice she is compared to him.
* OcularGushers: Prone to this when she's trapped in her [[spoiler: monster form]].
* PragmaticHero: She's the closest thing the series has to a traditional AntiHero.
* ShipTease: With Gokudo. Djinn thinks early on that they're a good match, and when the snake sisters ask her if she's in love with someone, she becomes extremely bashful and hurls them high into the air, making her denial all the more obvious.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: She steals a ring in the second arc, which allows her to communicate with animals.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: There are times when Rubette steals Gokudo's spotlight by taking out his enemies and saving everyone, which annoys him or gives him time to slack off.
* ThrillSeeker: She runs away from home to join Gokudo because she wants to feel the thrill of adventure.
* {{Tomboy}}: As she puts it, she'd rather fight evil dragons than wait for a prince to come to rescue her.
* {{Tsundere}}: She and Gokudo get into arguments and is usually the first to laugh at his misfortune, but deep down she cares about him.

!!Djinn
!!! Voiced by Yutaka Shimaka [male] [=/=] Creator/MamiKingetsu [female] (JP), Greg Wolfe [male] [=/=] Stacie Lynn Renna [female; ep 1-2], Creator/JessicaCalvello [female; ep 9-12] (EN)

A genie of the magic world who aids Gokudo in his quest and tries to steer him on a better path. ''Tries''.
----
* BenevolentGenie: Djinn highly emphasizes goodwill and morals, so much that he refused to grant Gokudo's first three wishes when they first met (wealth, power, and women) because they were all selfish desires.
* BetaCouple: With Nanya in the later arcs.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: He's a sucker for wine, and his female form is especially prone to getting drunk.
* GenderBender: Has a much different-looking female form.
* HeroicSacrifice: When he and Nanya are cornered by King Yama's forces, he stays behind to fend off their pursuers and buy her time to escape, knowing full well that he'll succumb to the Tarilarian desert's curse if he does.
* MeaningfulName / PunnyName: Depending on the translation, Djinn rhymes with "Gin", an alcoholic drink, which he's weak to, or his name ''is'' Gin.
* ShipperOnDeck: Tells Gokudo early on that he thinks Rubette would be a good match for him.
* TakingTheBullet: Takes a blow for Gokudo early on, but was able to take it because he's a genie.
* TokenGoodTeammate: He's the one who keeps the team on the right path. Or tries, anyway.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can turn himself and others into the opposite sex, various dragons, or other forms with his magic.
* {{Weredragon}}: He can transform into a dragon at will.

!!Prince Niari
!!! Voiced by Creator/ShinichiroMiki (JP), Creator/TedLewis (EN, human form), Oliver Wyman (EN, unicorn)

The prince of the magic world and a nefarious womanizer who joins Gokudo's party.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: There's never a moment where he doesn't try to charm Rubette, and she rejects him every time.
* AntiVillain: Used magic to charm women, even though he doesn't need to, until [[spoiler:his mother]] forced him to join Gokudo's party.
* ChivalrousPervert: Far more of a gentleman than Gokudo, but no less perverted, lustful, or conceited.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Sort of. He joins the party after his defeat, but only because he was made to.
* HandsomeLech: He's very aware of his good looks and never hesitates to woo every single beautiful woman he comes across, usually [[SomethingAboutARose with a rose in hand]]. Nearly all of them reject his advances, although some are shown to find him irresistible.
* PrettyBoy: He's very handsome, which irks Gokudo.
* MamasBoy: Speaks fondly of his mother and attacks anyone who speaks ill of her, particularly Gokudo.
* MrFanservice: He's very handsome and good-looking, and gets naked at one point.
* MrViceGuy: More so than Gokudo. When first met, he has three (brainwashed) princesses fawning over him.
* SomethingAboutARose: Often seen carrying one whenever he tries to charm women.

!!Granny
!!! Voiced by Junko Hori (JP), Sonny Weil (EN)

An old woman who warns Gokudo that his life is in danger, setting him off on his quest, but she turns out to be much more involved than she lets off, with big plans in store for him.
----
* BeautifulAllAlong: [[spoiler: Her true form is that of a gorgeous goddess befitting her role as the one who maintains the balance of all things. Too bad her voice remains the same.]]
* BigGood: With two factions of JerkassGods, evil hermits, witches, and demons running about; as Queen of the Magic World, she's one of the few benevolent forces in-universe.
* OnlyKnownByHerNickname: Gokudo simply calls the mysterious fortune teller Granny since the first episode he saw her, while everyone else goes along with it. Djinn simply calls her Master, because she's the first owner of his magic stone.
* Really700YearsOld: She looks like a haggardly old woman, but she's even much older than that.
* TheTrickster: A positive example, as she uses her powers to keep problematic characters in check.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Disguises herself in a variety of forms.

!!Usagi
!!! Voiced by Manabi Mizuno (JP), Carolyn Dinicola (EN)

A red-headed girl with rabbit ears who isn't involved in the plot whatsoever, but appears to be responsible for keeping the show running.
----
* AuthorAvatar: Of '''Usagi''' Nakamura. This gets lampshaded when Gokudo asks WhoWritesThisCrap, and she pops up.
* BraggingThemeTune: She sings for the Dumpling King's advertisement with two pigs as backup singers.
* ButtMonkey: Seen tumbling on the ground in the credits, gets hit by Lady Nano's shockwave, and even gets thrown at Panda. Some characters even upstage her when she holds the ToBeContinued sign for the next episode.
* PaintingTheMedium: She's responsible for the various transitions, but either struggles with it or gets caught goofing off.

!!The Dumpling King
!!! Voiced by Yuuichi Nagashima (JP), Bill Timoney (EN)

A popular chef who seeks revenge against Gokudo because he dined and dashed.
----
* AntiVillain: He's a recurring antagonist of the series, but isn't a bad guy whatsoever.
* ButtMonkey: Constantly gets injured by the others and even gets transformed into a Minotaur - except the spell gave him a human head and a cow's body instead of the other way around.
* EyesAlwaysShut: His eyes are always closed.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: During his BraggingThemeTune in the English dub, he mentions that he's just opened a second restaurant. Gokudo's party eventually stumbles upon it in the fourth arc.
* GoldfishPoopGang: Chases after Gokudo for not paying for his meal.
* SupremeChef: He's able to make [[OurZombiesAreDifferent zombie]] meat taste good.

!!Ikkyu
!!! Voiced by Creator/MakikoOhmoto (JP), Georgette Reilly (EN)

A devil who resembles a young monk, and helps Gokudo in exchange for souls.
----
* AffablyEvil: For a manipulative soul eater he's actually rather friendly, and he's more than glad to help you in exchange for your soul. In any case, he's actually a greater help to Gokudo's party than he is a threat to them.
* DealWithTheDevil: He'll be glad to help you in exchange for your soul, except when Gokudo does this the first time, he offers him Issa's soul instead.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Downplayed. He's not a villain per se, but when Gokudo meets him in the fourth arc, Tei has put a spell on Ikkyu to purify him of his mischievous ways. It doesn't last and he reverts back to his sneaky ways.
* OhCrap: When he realizes Djinn was the one who summoned him for eating Issa's soul, he tries to book it.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Looks like a bald child.
* SoulEating: Treats devouring souls as a delicacy.
* TheTrickster: A negative example, as he tries to steal souls.
