[[caption-width-right:228:''[[FourStarBadass Cold Lieutenant]]'']]

-->''"No knight fears the slow-but-steady road."''

Chrom's lieutenant, a Ylissean knight who is sincere to a fault. He tends to demand tremendous effort for seemingly trivial things, and prefaces such exercises with a grin. The fondest of starting fires. His birthday is August 26.

->'''Class:''' Great Knight
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DaisukeOno (Japanese), Creator/KyleHebert (English)
----
* AffectionateNickname: Chrom and Lissa deem him "[[ProperlyParanoid Frederick the Wary]]", a title he wears with pride.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Can get Luna, which negates 50% of his target's Defense and Resistance.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Wears a suit underneath his armor. WordOfGod said his suit was based off [[BattleButler a butler's]]. It's lampshaded in his support with Maribelle.
* BadassNormal: He is considered a paragon in the art of combat, despite being in an army which includes one or two powerful non-humans.
* BattleButler: Although he will insist he is strictly a knight, Frederick dedicates much of his time performing butler-like duties for Chrom and Lissa. He even wears what is essentially a butler's uniform under his armor.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Maribelle, as she also has strong bonds with Lissa and Chrom.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Cherche. They're both [[UndyingLoyalty completely loyal]] to their lords, {{workaholic}}s that do all the menial chores said lords can't be bothered with without a single complaint, they're both quite well-spoken, and they highly value the knightly virtues. If they get married, their ending states that they both keep soldiers in line with their [[TranquilFury "famously disarming smiles"]].
* BoringButPractical: Without any grinding, Frederick will have lower stats in comparison to everyone else, who have faster growth speed and comparable growth rates to Frederick. At this time, Frederick is not the OneManArmy that he was back in the early game, and his usefulness mainly stems from his D/B/D weapon rank that allows him to use every kind of effective weapon to deal heavy damage from Pair Up Partner position. Fortunately, judicious use of reclassing will eventually allow him to catch up to the rest of the squad.
* CharacterSelectForcing: He is essentially your only answer for doing the early stages of Lunatic and Lunatic+ mode.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: He's so tough, he can get over a cold with a single sneeze. No, it doesn't make sense to Tharja either.
* TheComicallySerious: Conducts himself in a stern and dignified manner all the time (OK, '''[[NotSoAboveItAll most]]''' of the time)... which makes it all the more hilarious when he does things like try to force himself to eat [[DoesNotLikeSpam bear meat]] without freaking out, or put up naked posters of Chrom in each tent in order to boost morale.
* CrutchCharacter: Despite the fact that the early chapters of harder difficulties rely on him, Frederick will inevitably fall off in comparison to the player units, and the enemies by mid-late game where his speed is not sufficient, and his durability is not up to par anymore all thanks to his low base stats, and high internal level in spite of his amazing growth rate. With little to no grinding, Frederick is arguably the single most straightforward Jagen Archetype in the entire series, and is comparable to [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBindingBlade Old Marcus]] and [[VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Jagen]] himself in a lot of respects. Which is surprising considering [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBlazingBlade his]] [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheSacredStones game]]-[[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance breaking]] predecessors. Fortunately, there are ways of keeping him useful, such as abusing the pair up system to make use of his power without stealing experience from the weaker units or abusing the reclass system to bring him up to scratch.
* CulturedWarrior: To Virion's joy, he's also well-versed in the art of tea.
* CustomUniform: Frederick, as a Great Knight, wears slightly different, lighter armor than the generic armor worn by others of the same class. It's also unlikely that the other Great Knights wear butler clothing underneath their armor...
* CutenessProximity: In his A support with Panne, when he finally gets over his fear of wolves and anything that looks like wolves, he gets distracted by her rabbit ears.
-->'''Frederick:''' Yes, yes, of course. No more fear of... Oh, look at these floppy ears! They're so cute!
* DeadpanSnarker: At times. His short bio even states he's the "stern and sarcastic second-in-command".
* DislikesTheNewGuy: Towards Robin at the beginning of the game. While the other Shepherds are quick to welcome them to the group, as [[TheHero Chrom's]] bodyguard, he is proud to say he's wary of an amnesiac hyper-intelligent warrior joining their ranks out of the blue. Robin turns out to be [[spoiler:the vessel of the Fell Dragon Grima, the BigBad and Chrom's killer in an alternate BadFuture]], but also a loyal member of the Shepherds and good friend [[spoiler:in this timeline]]. It does however say something when [[spoiler:Robin's true nature is revealed, Frederick is actually one of the first people to reassure Robin that he still trusts them despite everything]].
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He hates wild game meat, ''especially'' bear meat.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Male Robin calls him "Fredericson" and the female one "Freddy-Bear" in their supports, which he immediately dislikes.
* FirstGirlWins: If you have him paired up with Lissa.
* FirstLove: Lissa reveals that he is this to her.
* FourStarBadass: The Shepherds' Lieutenant.
* GoNagaiSideburns: It fits with his enthusiastic nature as a royal knight.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Not with his enemies, nor his allies, as his trainees can vouch for.
* GoshDangItToHeck: When he doesn't believe the fact that Robin has amnesia. This is also one of the first things we hear him say.
-->"It's called a load of Pegasus dung."
* IKissYourHand: To Female Robin during his LoveConfession.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: To Robin in their B support, where he compliments them for their ability to eat bear meat, but makes it sound like they're an uncultured savage, which they even [[LampshadeHanging comment on]].
* TheLancer: Provides the cautious, matter-of-fact voice of reason to balance Chrom's trusting and open-hearted leadership.
* LargeHam: While he's usually calm and composed, he tends to lose all restraint if he encounters something he ''really'' doesn't like.
* LoveConfession:
-->''My heart is yours, milady. I vow to defend you as knight and husband until death should part us.''
* LoveHurts: If paired with [[spoiler:Cordelia]], he enters into the marriage knowing full well that her heart belongs to [[spoiler:Chrom]], but hoping that she'll eventually come to love him as he loves her.
* MagikarpPower: Post-game: His slower EXP gain rate[[note]]lampshaded by Frederick himself in [=EXPonential=] Growth[[/note]] will have him trail behind early on, but he is one of the few characters who naturally gains access to the [[DamageReduction Pavise/Aegis]] combo (and he's one of the few guys with a positive Defense modifier who doesn't suffer a hit in Resistance), which along with his high Skill stat and Luna skill, makes him a good tank and a good damage dealer. His access to the Wyvern Rider class set also makes him a good choice for ferrying units around if he's in a mobile class, once he gets Deliverer (alternatively, you can make Frederick into a General and make him into a somewhat more mobile foot tank when paired up).
* TheMentor: He prefers to guide others.
* MultiMeleeMaster: As a Great Knight, he has proficiency in all 3 weapons in the triangle.
* NervesOfSteel: Lampshaded by Robin regarding the jokes he gets from Chrom and Lissa. Although he claims to get it all out of his system when there aren't people looking.
* NotSoAboveItAll:
** His supports Robin reveal that he can't stand bear meat himself, despite chiding Lissa for refusing to eat it.
** Also, his supports with Henry reveals that he doesn't actually like training as much as people think he does.
* NumberTwo: He's Chrom's second in command.
* ObsessivelyOrganized: Frederick is implied to have ''some'' strong compulsion to keeping everything neat, tidy, and on schedule.
* OddFriendship: Two of the three non-Robin units the stern and dutiful Frederick has platonic supports with include [[TheDandy Virion]] and ''[[CreepyGood Henry]]'', of all people.
* OfficerAndAGentleman: Dutiful, refined, and a cornerstone of the Shepherds' army.
* OneManArmy: Just like other Jagen characters, he gets to be this at the beginning of the game. Although thanks to the game's new class-change system, he still can maintain the status if the player grinds enough.
* PickyEater: Surprisingly, he hates gamey meat, especially bear. He feels this is a weakness that needs to be corrected in his supports with Robin.
* PlotArmor: Because he appears in cutscenes throughout the entire game, Frederick retreats instead of dying when defeated in battle, though he will still become permanently unusable in Classic mode.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Pick a god and pray!"''\
''"Farewell!"''\
''"Your last breath approaches."''\
"''Now!''"
* ProperlyParanoid: His mistrust of the people that Chrom and Lissa meet is not entirely unfounded. For instance, he was technically right about [[spoiler:Robin being a Plegian]], though at first it looked like he was just being paranoid.
* {{Pyromaniac}}: Downplayed, as he's only fond of starting ''camp''fires.
* RealMenWearPink: One of his solo barracks conversations allows you to catch him muttering to himself about ''knitting everyone matching gloves'' and wondering what color to make them. He also knits Chrom a blanket in their C Support.
* RecurringElement: The early-game CrutchCharacter Jagen archetype. He's somewhere between being a straight Jagen and being an Oifey, however.
* ScheduleFanatic: Frederick has a specific routine he undergoes every day, but no event is more important to him than drilling the soldiers.
* TheSpartanWay: His way of training his troops. Although instead of being a DrillSergeantNasty, he always keeps smiling while being polite... which his trainees find even [[OhCrap MORE scary]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Just like other characters, he got a odd alternate spelling in the [=NoJ=] stuff, in this case, "Fredrick" (no second "e").
* StockAudioClip: His ''Awakening'' voice clips are recycled in ''Fates''.
* TearsOfJoy: Frederick is moved to tears when Henry finally decides to take his training seriously.
* TrainingFromHell: His training session for the army, dubbed "[[AlliterativeName Frederick's Fanatical Fitness]] Hour."
* UndyingLoyalty: To the Ylisse Royal Family.
* UnwantedAssistance: Frederick's attempts to help others sometimes backfire horribly. Of particular note is his C support with Chrom, where he tries to raise troop morale by sticking posters of Chrom '''[[NakedPeopleAreFunny naked]]''' in every tent. Labeled [[DoubleEntendre "Chrom Wants You!"]] When told to tone down the helping, he has a small psychological breakdown, and ends up trying to dust Robin when they are trying to have a meeting with Chrom. [[invoked]]
* VeteranInstructor: He served as a royal knight before becoming Chrom's lieutenant and the Shepherds' drill sergeant.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Due to nearly getting killed by a wolf when he was younger, Frederick is terrified of wolves or anything that looks like a wolf, like a [[HairRaisingHare taguel]].
* {{Workaholic}}: Frederick takes his duties as a knight ''very'' seriously, to the point that some of his support conversations imply he doesn't even know how to relax.
* WorthyOpponent: He comes to respect [[spoiler:Jakob]] in [[spoiler:the [[VideoGame/FireEmblemFates Before Awakening]] DLC]], recognizing him as the first person he's met as devoted to their lord as him, and treated likewise, even giving him a few tips and pointers.

-->[[spoiler:'''Jakob''']]: You seem to be mistaken, I am far more devoted [to my lord] than you could ever be. For example, [...] All through the night, I make sure that more lord/lady's rooms are the ideal temperature. Too cold and I add another log to the fire. Too hot and I will quietly crack a window. I do this every night.
-->'''Frederick''': Hah, you still do that? I overcame the need to monitor my lord's room years ago, by engineering windows [[BambooTechnology that would crack themselves]] [[CrazyPrepared if a room grew too warm]]. I also personally chop the logs used in Chrom's fire. The size is never insufficient in providing warmth. They are also pleasing to the eye.
-->[[spoiler:'''Jakob''']]: ...That's not a bad idea, actually...

[[caption-width-right:300:''Archest Archer'']]

-->''"Am I not a thing of beauty?"''

A secretive noble from some land or another. While many would brand him a buffoon or a braggart, his boasts are often founded. He is swift to propose to anything female. The most prolonged primper. His birthday is December 10th.

->'''Class:''' Archer
->'''Voiced by:''' Hiromichi Kogami (Japanese), Creator/JamiesonPrice (under "Taylor Henry") (English)
----
* TheAce: Practically all of his boasting turns out to be just ''him stating simple facts.''
* AgentPeacock: Virion is a master archer and tactician, who also loves to look at himself in the mirror.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with his underling, Cherche.
* BlueBlood: The Duke of Rosanne. He wound up in Ylisse after the Valmese Empire laid siege to his territory, which becomes relevant halfway into the game.
* BowAndSwordInAccord: If promoted to a [[HorseArcher Bow Knight]].
* BunnyEarsLawyer: The [[BlueBlood Duke]] of his own territory, TheAce in a variety of fields, and a master archer... who also happens to be a shameless flirt.
* BreakHisHeartToSaveHim: What he essentially does to the entirety of Rosanne. He knew that getting his people's hopes up would rile them up into a battle they had '''zero''' chance of winning, so what does he do? ''Force himself to leave his home and take on the full weight of Rosanne's scorn.''
* BreakingTheFourthWall: In the chapter he joins, he directly addresses the player to explain that as an archer, he should not be put on the frontlines.
* TheCasanova: [[CassandraTruth If his tales are to be believed]], Virion is normally quite successful with lonely noble women, and he actually manages to swoon [[spoiler:Olivia]].
* CasanovaWannabe: Despite the above, his conversations with women typically end with plenty of annoyed groans.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Virion, away!!" - shouted whenever he needs to make a suitably dramatic exit, whether that's while fetching things for Tharja, or playing "Duck, Duck, Dragon" with Nowi.
* CheeseEatingSurrenderMonkeys: Played with. He speaks with a marked French accent, and was driven out of his dukedom... but at the same time, he had a perfectly valid reason for fleeing from Valm. [[LampshadeHanging When he returns, he is called out for this.]]
* ChivalrousPervert: He can't stop thinking about women, but he always treats them like royalty.
* ChromaticArrangement: Forms a quartet with the first four characters to join the party. He's the 'blue ranger' coming after Sully's red and before Stahl's green and Vaike's yellow.
* ClassyCravat: And proud of it too, as he becomes quite insulted when Robin calls it a bib in their B support. Sully even calls him "Ruffles" when she first meets him because of it. However, he's not wearing a cravat: He's actually wearing a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabot_(neckwear) Jabot]].
* CulturedBadass: Tea and chess are his hobbies.
* DeathByIrony: In the BadFuture if he's Owain's father, the self-proclaimed "Archest of Archers" died to an arrow.
* DirtyCoward: How the majority of the world sees him after abandoning his province of Rosanne to Walhart. The truth is more complicated.
* EngagingConversation: Virion's fond of pulling these.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Virion's first little chat with Sully establishes his quickness to propose to anything woman, and more importantly [[CasanovaWannabe his success rate]].
* EverythingSoundsSexierInFrench: He has a distinctively French accent in the English dub.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: Rosanne is apparently French-like in culture.
* TheFightingNarcissist: He's skilled, good-looking, classy, intelligent, and he's going to flaunt all of it shamelessly the entire game.
* FragileSpeedster: He gains little Defense, but has more Skill and Speed.
* GambitRoulette: Virion frequently finds himself needing rescue, but he will always insist [[IMeantToDoThat he was in control the entire time]]. Considering that Virion is an insightful strategist, it's difficult to tell whether or not he is lying.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: From supports, and his bio, we can gather that Virion is a deadly combatant, though he only picks fights he can win, and preferably does so at a distance. It fits his Archer class quite nicely, no?
** Additionally, his claim to Tharja of "those little hex doodads never work on me" makes some sense given that his base Resistance growth is unusually high for not being a magic user or a Pegasus Knight. Even counting those classes, he's still in the top half for base Resistance growth among the first generation (and his is actually higher than Tharja's own!).
* GladHesOnOurSide: Sully, after gaining significant respect for him in their A support after he won a duel against somebody the ''entire rest of the army'' was having trouble with, says that he's still clearly insane after he once again expresses hope (in his usual flowery way) that she'll fall in love with him. She then adds "But if there must be a dangerous madman about, I'm glad he's on my side."
%%* GlassCannon: Comes with being an Archer.
* HandsomeLech: Infamously so. His allies know all too well his record of flirting with every woman he meets.
* HiddenDepths: Though he combines this with CassandraTruth, constantly telling people how amazing he is, only to have them write him off as just a boaster. Then he goes and proves it.
** He also is able to beat Robin at chess (or something similar to it). However, in his B support with them, he points out that despite Robin never being able to beat him, it's because Robin plays this game the way they do with a real army - trying to keep losses at a minimum. Virion can ''only'' win because he is willing to make sacrifices and [[PyrrhicVictory can only win at a cost]]. Despite being an absolute ace at chess, he ''knows'' that this is ''not'' how you lead an army because war is ''not'' a game, he would have a ZeroPercentApprovalRating were he to lead a real army like this.
** His fortune telling, as revealed in his supports with Miriel, is actually somewhat of a social science to him -- he tries to see what that person's desire is, and then tries to make [[ColdReading a vague guess]] as to what is ''plausible'' to happen to them, hence why they will come correct.
** His supports with Lissa and Frederick have him demonstrating a talent for political intrigue unrivaled by anyone else in the game's cast. Additionally, his aptitude for the social sciences shows up again with Cordelia as he demonstrates an impressive ability to read people.
** In his S Support with Sully, Virion shows that, despite all his LargeHam tendencies, he can actually be quite shy.
** He also deliberately allows himself [[TheSoCalledCoward to be seen as a coward]] for fleeing his homeland and allowing it to fall... because he didn't want his people dying to defend him against a foe they couldn't possibly match.
* InsufferableGenius: His conversations with certain characters (like Cordelia) are marked with him pointing out and elaborating on his interlocutor's problems before they can even answer.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Virion never picks a fight he knows he can't win, and has no problem with running away if he has to. This is the reason he fled from Valm.
* LadykillerInLove: If paired.
* LargeHam: Enthusiastically goes on long-winded speeches when he's around women.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: What's a HandsomeLech without some luscious locks?
* LoveConfession:
-->'' I love you, no, I am enamored with you, no, we are soulmates! Oh, the sultry sonnets we shall spin!''
* TheMagnificent: Virion goes by many epithets (which he apparently gave himself) such as "Virion the Cunning", or "Virion the Tenacious."
* MyGreatestFailure: The people of Rosanne never forgive him for abandoning them, and Virion never really forgives himself, either. [[spoiler:Only with the help of a wife will Virion eventually find a way to redeem himself.]]
* PlotArmor: Even in Classic mode, Virion escapes instead of dying if defeated in battle. And this is all because he appears in one scene after the TimeSkip to drop exposition on the Valmese empire.
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->''"Die! With magnificence!"''\
''"Adieu!"''\
''"Shall I make you famous?"''\
''"One for the bards!"''
* PyrrhicVictory: The reason why, despite being a skilled tactician, he never tries to take Robin's role. He gets too many of his men killed achieving any specific objective, as opposed to Robin's (and likely the player's) reluctance to sacrifice so much as a single unit. He's better suited to board games then he is actual combat situations where real lives are at risk.
* ThisIsReality: When Robin mentions that Virion should be the tactician and not them, Virion proceeds to give Robin a speech about how he is only able to win because this is a ''game''. In the real world, this would not be the case. See SmartPeoplePlayChess.
* RecurringElement: In terms of stats he's the early game archer archetype. Subverted in terms of personality, he's similar to characters like Sain and Gatrie by being a serial flirt, instead of a young eager boy.
* RedBaron: He often refers to himself as "The Archest of Archers.". Also "Fatherest of Fathers" if he fathers a child.
* SerialRomeo: Blatantly obvious when you notice that he will flirt with almost every single female character available.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Or something like it or Risk at least, though, to everyone's surprise, his strategy is that of a CombatPragmatist. He's actually able to beat Robin, the party's actual tactician, at it. Virion counters Robin's dejection at losing at their best subject by pointing out his strategies only work in a game, stating that if he tried to use any of those strategies in real life, he'd end up with a ZeroPercentApprovalRating and/or his head on a pike by his own men as it would be a PyrrhicVictory at best with most of his own troops dead.
-->'''Virion:''' I won, yes, but at what cost? Half the moves I make in this game could never be used in a real battle. My own men would have my head on a pike before the enemy even reached me. No, this army needs a tactician who loathes the sacrifice of even a single man. It needs you, ''Robin''.
* TheSoCalledCoward: In some supports, he reveals that [[spoiler:he hated abandoning Rosanne, but only did so because his vassals would have been willing to fight and die for him had he not fled, and he knew that they would not have been able to win]].
* StarterMon: In ''Heroes'', he's one of the first units you get. Prior to version 2.5.0, he was your first archer; after that, he joins after finishing the tutorial.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He seems to share a few personality traits with [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Bastian]], particularly the flirting and Shakespearian language.
* TeaIsClassy: Likes drinking tea as part of his refined image.
* WeakButSkilled: While his strength is nothing to sneeze at, what Virion brings to the table is his good speed and phenomenal skill, though his defenses do leave much to be desired.
* WeakWilled: Subverted in his supports with Tharja; he was doing what she wanted because she was pretty, not because he was hexed.

[[folder:Vaike (Wyck)]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/250px-Wyck_4714.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:250:''[[FromZeroToHero Zero to Hero]]'']]

-->''"Looks like the Vaike just got Vaiker!"''

A rough-hewn Shepherd with a loud personality and far more confidence than his ability warrants. He sees himself as exemplary and reverently refers to himself in the third person. The best at misplacing things. His birthday is December 26th.

->'''Class:''' Fighter
->'''Voiced by:''' Daisuke Endo (Japanese), Michael Sorich (English)
----
* BadassNormal: One Chrom's most trusted soldiers, but he used to be just some guy from the slums.
* BadassTeacher: Or so he claims, given he often refers to himself as "Teach".
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with his rival Chrom's sister, Lissa, since both Chrom and Emmeryn helped change his life.
* TheBigGuy: Biggest, loudest, and most aggressive Shepherd, but none too bright.
* BloodKnight: Vaike loves a good fight and likes to pick them at random times.
* BoisterousBruiser: Enjoys boasting about his fighting prowess, to the annoyance of everyone else.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Lissa thinks he has one for Chrom. He reveals he has one for Lissa herself if they S Support.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: Vaike is headstrong and tends to act first and ask questions later, and so his main weapon is the axe.
* ChainedByFashion: Sports some chains hanging from his collar protector, which is standard garb for the Fighter class.
* ChromaticArrangement: Forms a quartet with the first four characters to join the party. He's the 'yellow ranger' coming after Sully's red, Virion's blue and Stahl's green.
* DumbMuscle: Vaike isn't exactly the sharpest axe in the armory, but he can be surprisingly clever when he wants to be.
* FluffyTamer: He wrestles with Minerva in his supports with Cherche. It gains him plenty of scratches and bruises, but it also wins him Minerva's respect and friendship. In fact, he even learns to communicate with her like Cherche does.
* ForgetfulJones: He forgets to tell Stahl about the mission to Regna Ferox in Chapter 2, and later on he forgets his own axe.
* FriendToAllChildren: He's great with kids, as seen in his supports with Nowi. Also, his life's ambition is to create a better future for the children of his hometown.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: It's implied that he loses most if not all of his fights against Chrom and Lon'qu in their supports, which makes sense in regards to the weapon triangle, as his rivals are both swordsmen while Vaike's got an axe.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Sully mentions in one of their supports that he's decent with a lance. Lances are in fact the one weapon type that Vaike is completely incapable of using in any of his classes.
* GlassCannon: Vaike provides plenty of Strength, Health, and decent Speed, but his poor defenses, especially [[WeakAgainstMagic Resistance]], will make those hit points vanish quickly if his enemy manages to survive his onslaught.
* GoalInLife: To become a great warrior and role model for the children of his hometown, hoping to improve the next generation and bridge the gap between the high and low classes.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has one on his cheek.
* HiddenDepths: He is not as completely self-centered or dull-witted as one would think. He can come up with pretty honest compliments about Robin in Tharja's support, and genuinely wants to help the reclusive Lon'qu socialize with other members of the army.
* HotBlooded: His male supports make it especially obvious. Vaike takes everything seriously, even cooking, apparently.
* ImAManICantHelpIt: His justification when Robin catches him peeping on bathing women.
* InSeriesNickname: "[[IronicNickname Teach]]," which he apparently gave himself.
* LargeHam: He's a loud BoisterousBruiser who tends to dramatize most of his interactions with his allies.
* LifeDrain: Sol, which allows him to regain hp equal to damage dealt if it activates. He can learn if classed into Hero.
* LoveConfession:
-->''This has gotta be the first time I've ever rated someone else first! Is this...love? The Vaike is stunned!''
* OvershadowedByAwesome: By his wife in almost all of his paired endings. And in almost every one of ''those'', Vaike is absolutely adored by his hometown... just that little bit less than his wife is.
* ThePeepingTom: His supports with Robin chronicle his attempts to peep on the ladies bathing. His A support gives him a taste of his own medicine [[LaserGuidedKarma when said ladies spy on ''him'']].
** BadLiar: He ''tries'' to lie his way out of it when Robin catches him.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Looks like Teach just got tenure!"''\
''"That's enough back talk!"''\
''"Just you and me!"''\
''"You want some?"''
* RecurringElement: Of the boisterous Axe fighter archetype. He most closely resembles Boyd in terms of characterization and an axe fighter in the mercenary company with a friendly rivalry towards its leader.
* RealMenCook: The reason Vaike decides to challenge Chrom to a cooking contest.
* RedOniBlueOni: Forms a classic pair with Lon'qu as the blue to Vaike's red.
* TheRival: Deliberately acts this way towards Chrom because it's the only thing Vaike knows would make them equals.
* RunningGag: He tends to misplace his axe, first in Chapter 2, again at the end of the game ''and'' during the Summer Scramble DLC.
* ScreamingWarrior: He makes ferocious grunts while he fights. Miriel finds that his shouting actually has practical purposes in combat.
* SelfAppliedNickname: He always calls himself either "[[MentorWannabe Teach]]" or "''[[SpellMyNameWithAThe the]]'' [[ThirdPersonPerson Vaike]]" and insists that others do the same. Few do.
* SmallNameBigEgo: He calls himself Ore-sama (The Great Me) in the Japanese version. He's actually a lot less arrogant than one might expect from his speaking style, as it was the style of his poor hometown to talk like such to keep an upbeat atmosphere.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: "Enter the Vaike!"
* StreetSmart: If nothing else, Vaike is surprisingly good at reading people, sizing them up and understanding their feelings.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He's the [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Boyd]] to Chrom's Ike, including being a BoisterousBruiser axe-wielder and seeing his old friend as a rival. He can even romance Lissa, just like how Boyd and Mist can marry in ''Radiant Dawn''.
* ThirdPersonPerson: On occasions, but not all the time, unlike Gregor. Lissa thinks he has to, otherwise he would [[ForgetfulJones forget his own name]].
-->'''Vaike''': The Vaike never forgets! I just don't always remember is all.
* UnskilledButStrong: Not so much gameplay-wise, where he has both tremendous strength and very good skill growths, but implied in his supports with Cordelia, who recognizes his great potential is hampered by his lack of training in the basics.
* UptownGuy: As a former StreetUrchin, he's got a lot of options with marrying nobility, such as Lissa or Maribelle.
* VitriolicBestBuds: His relationship with Chrom, from which Vaike will outright deny it's anything friendlier than rivalry even if it's proven otherwise.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Played straight with his portrait, but zig-zags depending on his promotion route.

->'''Class:''' Cavalier
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TarusukeShingaki (Japanese), Creator/SamRiegel (English)
----
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Can get Luna if he goes Great Knight.
* BadassNormal: Just your everyday soldier, and [[RidiculouslyAverageGuy ridiculously average]] to boot, but still kicks plenty of ass.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Miriel, who is rather intrigued by his average-ness.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: As kindhearted as he is, he was a knight who was personally [[TrainingFromHell trained by Frederick]] alongside Sully, and can become a deadly unit gameplay-wise.
* BigEater: Stahl has a very large appetite and constantly talks about food. Upon picking up an item on the battlefield or barracks, he gives us this gem:
-->''What's this? [[IsItSomethingYouEat Is it edible?]] I haven't eaten in minutes.''
* BigThinShortTrio: Forms one with Kellam (Big) and Donnel (Short). Stahl serves as the Thin member.
* BlueOniRedOni: The Blue ExtremeDoormat NiceGuy to Sully's Red HotBlooded SirSwearsALot.
* BowAndSwordInAccord: If he's reclassed into Assassin or Bow Knight. Notable in that he's one of the few first generation characters to have access to both the Swordfaire and Bowfaire skills, which will give him +5 strength no matter which of the class' weapons he is using.
* ButtMonkey: Stahl tends to wind up in a lot of unfortunate situations, but the thing is, it's usually [[ExtremeDoormat his own fault.]]
* CannotTellALie: In the supports, Tharja curses him with a spell that, if he lies to her in any way, he will die a painful death. If he reaches a rank S, he uses the curse as proof that his feelings are true. [[spoiler:[[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Cue Tharja explaining him that she lifted the curse a long time ago]].]]
* ChromaticArrangement: Forms a quartet with the first four characters to join the party. He's the 'green ranger' coming after Sully's red and Virion's blue and before Vaike's yellow.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Green, and like Sully, it is also present in his Paladin and Great Knight class models.
* DamageReduction: Can gain this against bows, tomes, and dragonstones if he goes Paladin.
* ExtremeDoormat: "No" does not seem to be a part of [[NiceGuy Stahl]]'s vocabulary.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Stahl thinks the field items are edible.
* FixedRelativeStrength: It's revealed in his supports that he's this ''for the entire army''. The other Shepherds notice Stahl improving and they take it as them being the ones slacking off, which makes them improve in return.
* FormerlyFit: If he marries Cherche, the epilogue states he eventually grows fat off her excellent cooking.
* HairColorDissonance: His hair in official art is green, but in-game the more neutral tone makes it hard to tell whether it's gray, green, brown, or any combination of the three.
* HiddenDepths: He has a talent for being able to read others easily and knowing what they want before they even ask. Not that he even takes advantage of it, instead it supplements his considerate and thoughtful nature. His C support with Robin also reveals he's a skilled apothecary as his father runs a shop and taught him.
* GutFeeling: He is very good at anticipating how others feel and what they are thinking.
* LetsGetDangerous: Listen to his battle quotes and it's hard to believe that he's so easygoing off the battlefield.
* LoveConfession:
-->''My lady, I may never take my eyes off you again! ... Unless I'm about to run into a wall.''
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The feminine boy to Sully's masculine girl. He's not ''that'' feminine, really, but anyone would come off as feminine when compared to [[TheLadette her.]]
* MeaningfulName: ''Stahl'' means "steel" in German. ''Sol'' and ''Sort'' mean "sun" and "fate", the latter fitting well with Sully's original French-derived name.
* MessyHair: Stahl likens his hair to a vegetable.
* NiceGuy: To the point where various characters either tell him that he doesn't give himself enough credit or don't believe he has no ulterior motives for being so nice. Robin in their A Support has them assuring that they will always look out for him like he does for everyone else.
* ObsessedWithFood: Stahl is left heartbroken anytime he suffers the tragedy of missing a meal.
* OnlySaneMan: His supports with some of the more eccentric characters come off this way. His short bio even says that he's the most reasonable of the Shepherds.
* OverlyNervousFlopSweat: In the [[BeachEpisode beach DLC]], Chrom gives Stahl some encouragement which causes him to start sweating and hyperventilating, thinking he has to live up to Chrom's expectations.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Ready?"''\
''"I love this part!"''\
''"You are so dead!"''\
''"Get ready!"''
* RecurringElement: Of the Cain and Abel Red and Green knights, forming a duo with Sully.
* RidiculouslyAverageGuy: According to his B support with Miriel, he is in the exact median for any and all performance data of everyone in the camp. She is amazed by just how incredibly unoutstanding he is. Although it's played with later on. [[spoiler:It's noted that he's improved significantly during Miriel's tests. Because everyone ''knows'' that Stahl is ridiculously average, they perceive him catching up to them as their own skills atrophying, and push themselves to improve in turn. He's basically the baseline for the entire army, and by improving himself he makes the whole thing better.]]
* ThroughHisStomach: He tries to win over Panne by looking for dishes that she and the rest of the group like so that she can joins the group during meals, instead of isolating herself. This is because Panne, being a taguel, can't digest some of the human food, such as potatoes (Stahl discovers this last bit the hard way).
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Fried fig cakes, according to his support with Robin.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre:
** Against Stahl's low expectations in himself, Chrom says he's one of the Shepherds' best knights, and Sully tells him that he's the better rider out of the two of them.
** [[spoiler:In a similar case to Sumia, it's actually to his benefit that he thinks that way: he fights every battle like it would be his last and thus he does his best.]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Manabu Sakamaki (Japanese), Creator/OrionAcaba (English, ''Awakening''), Connor Ludovice (English, ''Heroes'')
----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: His supports with Maribelle show that he wears his armor most of the time because it's his most comfortable clothing. [[spoiler:Said armor was made for him by his village because [[SoProudOfYou they were proud of him]] for being a Shepherd, even if they got his size wrong.]]
* AfterActionPatchUp: If he supports with Sully, he gets hurt while protecting her. When she notices, [[{{Tsundere}} she]] at first calls him out and then bandages his injuries.
* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:Rather than teach Kellam why he needed to share, his parents chose to start ignoring him.]]
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: In the Golden Gaffe DLC. Most of the other characters are angry with the Risen for stealing their valuables. Kellam is angry at the Risen because they didn't steal ''his''.
-->'''Kellam:''' It's sitting right in my tent! [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin In a bag with the word "GOLD" on the side!]] Gosh, even my wallet lacks presence...
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Can gain Luna if promoted to Great Knight.
* AttentionWhore: A mild example. Most of the time everything he talks about is about wanting to get more noticed. And given how much he has to work to get people to pay him any kind of attention, it's understandable.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Sully, possibly due to their desire to protect others [[spoiler:and Kjelle being a Knight like him]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Despite how kind he is, he's still quite powerful and all too willing to fight in defense of his country and friends.
* BigThinShortTrio: Forms one with Stahl (Thin) and Donnel (Short). Kellam serves as the Big member.
* TheBigGuy: Aside from being this to the BigThinShortTrio, he's definitely a lot bigger than most of the Shepherds.
* BirdsOfAFeather: He and Donnel have a series of Supports in which he showcases his own FarmBoy roots by helping him plant some berry bushes.
* ButtMonkey: Played tragicomically. His first appearance in an issue of Famitsu was spent demonstrating different ''death quotes'' between Classic and Casual mode. Poor guy. Heck, his face is obscured by Chrom's ''knee'' on the game's boxart! In-game, Kellam goes unnoticed by almost everyone, even if he's within plain sight. The game jokes about this a lot, but also showcases how lonely he often feels as a result.
* CombatMedic: Emphasis on combat due to his low magic, but if he reclasses to Priest he averts the SquishyWizard trope thanks to his strong Defense stat and growth, and can become a very effective tank, damage dealer and healer should he promote to War Monk.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: While his attention craving can be considered annoying by some, his fighting prowess as a knight is great, and he can be used as a very effective tank.
* DamageReduction: If he promotes to General he can learn Pavise, which halves incoming damage from swords, lances, axes and beaststones if it activates.
* DifficultButAwesome: Making him an effective Trickster involves a ''lot'' of LevelGrinding, needing the player to promote and/or reclass at least three times[[note]]Reclass first to Priest to train him in the use of staves and learn Healtouch to compensate for his low magic, then to Thief to learn the basic skills of that class and grind up his sword ranks and then promote to Trickster[[/note]] -- and that's assuming they don't want to grab other more useful skills like Renewal from War Monk. But if they do, they'll have a powerful LightningBruiser who can move quickly, unlock doors and chests, heal damage and dish out damage as reliably as he can take it thanks to his strong Defense and (probably) high Resistance. It's doable, it's just also time-consuming vs. the BoringButPractical option of just leaving him in his base class and promoting when necessary.
* EyesAlwaysShut: To the point that even his sprite is like this. He claims it's because he has a bad habit of squinting.
* FailedASpotCheck:
** His main RunningGag. Despite wearing a huge suit of armor, he ''still'' barely gets noticed! In fact, it's so bad that despite being the tallest person at the table according to his bio, for ages the rest of the army was baffled by an extra cup at the table--his--and assumed the place was haunted.
** In his supports with Tharja for example, she somehow misses him ''[[BangingPotsAndPans clanging two pans together to get her attention]]!''
** Chrom and the rest of the Shepherds apparently failed to even notice he accompanied them on the mission to Regna Ferox, only acknowledging his existence once they reach its gates. And to make it even better, the player can ignore him indefinitely and he'll even complain about not being noticed.
* FarmBoy: He hails from a small rural village and is the son of a poor family of farmers.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration:
** This big hulking knight can reclass into a Thief, in keeping with his unusually stealthy nature.
** In his introductory chapter, you can pretend he's not there to talk... and the enemies won't even acknowledge his presence if he's in their range until Chrom talks to him.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: Kellam is known (or unknown, in this case) for being almost completely unnoticeable, but that doesn't stop allies from thanking him if he manages to kill an enemy via Dual Strike. But, of course, since this is Kellam, there's always the possibility of said ally's thanks being directed towards luck or a deity, or at least realizing ''someone'' helped them even if they're not sure who.
* TheGenericGuy: In fact, he's so generic that his own family barely knows he exists. He's capable of pulling off many a StealthHiBye even though he's the largest person in the army. In fact, he's so generic that [[spoiler:every one of his marriage endings (except for Female Robin, where he's mentioned!) is his wife's solo ending with the line "Her husband's name has been lost to history" tagged on at the end.]]
* GentleGiant: He's the tallest of the Shepherds sitting up, and is an incredibly NiceGuy.
* ICantBelieveAGuyLikeYouWouldNoticeMe: Some of his {{love confession}}s, specially the ''adorable'' one to the Female Robin:
-->"You make me feel like I-I'm really here. Like I mean something. I am yours... forever."
* ImpossiblyCoolClothes: For a certain value of "cool", but certainly "impossible".
** Though it's actually more practical than it looks (for a certain value of 'practical' anyway). The large part above the torso is actually a detachable ShouldersOfDoom.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: A recipient of this. According to his A Support with Miriel; the closer one gets, the easier it is to perceive him. This is why Sully, [[ThePowerOfLove his fastest support]] and Kjelle, [[ThePowerOfFamily the daughter of said union]] rarely lose track of him.
* HeroicBuild: According to [[https://twitter.com/kymg/status/853677548009476096 this Kozaki sketch]], Kellam is ''ripped'' under his armor.
* HiddenDepths: Being such an unassuming and humble guy, Kellam has a lot of talents that tend to catch others by surprise. He's got a bevy of farming knowledge and gives Donnel some serious pointers on growing crops, he's a remarkably smart fighter to the point Panne acknowledges his wit and is confounded by him in battle, and he uses some incredibly sweet cunning in helping her get to socialize with other humans, even if it means injuring himself in the process. [[GoodIsNotSoft Frederick]] outright sings praises of how vigilant and reliable he is as a knight in the one conversation they get, with a level of complete admiration the fair but stern lieutenant doesn't often give.
* KidsAreCruel: [[spoiler:As a child, his family was very poor, but he was mean and didn't like sharing. [[TheUnfavorite This led his parents and brothers to start ignoring him. To this day, they pretend he doesn't exist save for one brother.]]]]
* LoveConfession:
-->''You make me feel like I-I'm really here. Like I mean something. I am yours...forever.''
* MysteriousProtector: But not by choice!
* NiceGuy: Poor Kellam doesn't even have it in him to be angry for being ignored all the time. He's just happy whenever someone actually notices him, and he's actively helpful and gives advice to the problems several of his fellow shepherds, as seen in his supports with characters like Donnel and Olivia. His support with [[LastOfHerKind Panne]] shows he'll go to ''dangerously'' self-sacrificing levels to help her feel less left out among the group.
* TheNondescript: Despite wearing a gigantic suit of armor, he's virtually invisible to everyone, including his own teammates. It also doesn't help that his design is very plain compared to the other characters.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"It's my big moment!"''\
''"Don't miss this!"''\
''"They've gotta notice this!"''\
''"Come on, look at me!"''
* TheQuietOne: Literally. One of the reasons most people don't realize his presence is that he doesn't say anything nor makes any sounds (despite wearing that bulky armor everywhere!) when entering a room.
** Maribelle actually mistakes him for a display armor standing in the middle of a room.
* RunningGag:
** Even the ''boxart'' gets in on it; it's easily possible to not even know he's there. Ironically, he's almost right in the center, in the background just a little below and behind Chrom. There's two versions of the official art, and his face is deliberately hidden in ''both''.
** Olivia spends one support conversation and a half thinking he's a tree!
* SelfMadeMan: He comes from an extremely poor village, and was the first person from his small and knit-tight community to make himself kind-of a name outside of it via joining the Shepherds.
* TheSneakyGuy: Kellam can actually take advantage of his lack of presence to pull off some stealthy moves. It's taken to an absurd level in his supports with [[TheAce Cordelia]], where she vows to be just as stealthy as him, [[FailedASpotCheck but fails to notice Kellam at all when he had been]] ''[[HilarityEnsues patrolling around the same perimeter as her!]]'' [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration He can re-class to a Thief (or appropriate promoted class) with a Second Seal, and performs quite well at it.]]
* StealthHiBye: Not voluntarily, most of the time, but he still does ''a lot'' in Support conversations simply because of how little people notice him until he speaks up or gets their attention. One of his Dual Strike quotes actually leans on this.
-->'''Kellam:''' Surprise!
* StealthyColossus: Unintentionally, despite his large and heavy armor.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Of [[VideoGame/FireEmblemGenealogyOfTheHolyWar Arden]], who also had difficulties getting attention in his game. Their situation is so similar the Lost Bloodlines DLC makes a RunningGag out of it! [[note]]Kellam and Arden are actually something of a {{deconstruction}} of the unpopular Knight/General class. Their lack of presence parodies the benching of such classes in favor of faster, more mobile classes by players.[[/note]]
-->'''Kellam:''' Fight me! ...I mean, just look at us. It was meant to happen.
* ThrowTheDogABone: Caeda and Lilina notice him in a few DLC chapters. In addition, if he has a child s/he will see him with no troubles, whether in the proper game or in the DLC dialogues (i.e., a Kellam-fathered Kjelle from ''The Future Past'' notices him almost immediately, tells him how strong and brave he was in her BadFuture, and tells him that she's immensely proud of being his child).
** Also, girls like Panne and Nowi can spot him rather easily - implied to be due to their inhuman natures.
** Interestingly, Sully (his fastest support) ''also'' spots him relatively easily, and in fact confronts ''him'' (or at least seeks him out) in all supports except for S.
** In the Summer Scramble DLC, Frederick approaches him and expresses his appreciation for all of Kellam's hard work.
* TheUnfavorite: [[spoiler:His family has purposely ignored him since childhood.]]
* UsedToBeASweetKid: ''Inverted'', actually, Kellam says he used to be mean as a child, which was why his family ignored him.
* WalkingTheEarth: His solo ending. After the events of the game, [[spoiler:he leaves Ylisse to go on a long journey. [[RunningGag Of course]], it's not until years later before anyone even notices his absence.]]

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (Japanese), Creator/TravisWillingham (English), Creator/GabeKunda (English, Heroes, 2022 onward)
----
* AllergicToLove: Though only at first.
* AntiHero: He's not the friendliest fellow, but Lon'qu is definitely a good guy.
* BadassLongcoat: His Myrmidon and Swordmaster garbs give him a coat-tail that extends down to his feet.
* BaritoneOfStrength: His voice is very deep and he has pretty good battle stat growths. He can also weaponize his sword quite well in battle and slashes any enemy who crosses him.
* BashBrothers: Potentially, with Vaike, Gregor, and Male Robin.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:nor the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]. Since his childhood sweetheart was killed, his potential wife is also a SecondLove.]] Unlike most others, he has no fast support with the opposite sex, supporting equally slowly with all marriageable candidates, possibly due to his [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration gynophobia]].
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Olivia, as both have trouble dealing with other people. Also with Panne, as both have a DarkAndTroubledPast and suffer from nightmares as a result.
* BloodKnight: He keeps challenging other men to training fights in their supports in order to find a WorthyOpponent and become stronger. However, in battle, he just does what he's told without much emotion about it.
* BodyguardCrush: If paired with Lissa.
* BowAndSwordInAccord: If promoted to Assassin.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Less boisterous than most examples, but he's a tough fighter with an aloof image... but has a soft side, mainly in that he doesn't abandon those who need his help, or those he wants to help.
* ButtMonkey: His early supports with the ladies can definitely come off like this, especially with Miriel.
* CartwrightCurse: Believes he has this due to [[spoiler:failing to save his childhood friend from bandits]]. As a result, he thinks that any woman who so much as ''talks'' to him is also doomed, much less becomes his friend.
* CannotSpitItOut: Most characters have enough trouble spitting out their declaration of love in their S supports, but poor Lon'qu ''really'' has a hard time with admitting love.
* CannotTalkToWomen: Most of his interactions with the women are him struggling to speak comfortably with them around. Despite this, he can be paired with any first generation female, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]].
** One of his solo event tile quotes is even him [[LampshadeHanging saying]] he needs to practice talking to women.
** Becomes a case of GameplayAndStoryIntegration concerning the character greetings when the player visits the Barracks: When playing as Female Robin, he has an extremely low chance to show up unless it's her birthday or they are married. It is also the case in terms of pairing him up at all: His supports with the opposite sex all rise slowly compared to the others and he has altered lines for Relationship Tile events with women, including exhortations to leave him alone.
* TheComicallySerious: Lon'qu is bound to be this this in nearly every time he interacts with someone, but his supports with Nowi, in which he is forced to play house with her, easily takes the cake.
-->'''Lon'qu:''' I shall now pretend to engage in agriculture! [[UnsoundEffect Chop, chop, shovel]]!
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:He spent his childhood as an orphan growing up in the slums of Chon'sin. The reason for his fear of women is that his first friend was a young girl his age, Ke'ri. She would be killed by bandits, and he developed gynophobia because of his inability to do anything to help her, always believing that any woman who gets close to him is bound to be killed.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: He has his moments, especially towards the more intelligent Shepherds:
-->'''Lon'qu''': ''(to the Female Robin)'' I honestly cannot tell sometimes if you are [[GeniusDitz a genius]] or [[CloudCuckooLander a complete dimwit]].
-->'''Lon'qu''': ''(to Miriel)'' [[AbsentMindedProfessor For a smart woman, you sure are dumb.]]
* DeathByAThousandCuts: Can learn Astra through Swordmaster.
* DiscriminateAndSwitch: Sully confuses his gynophobia for misogyny.
* DoesNotLikeWomen: Due to his [[TheStoic stoic]] demeanor, this is how he comes across to the rest of the characters at first.
* DubNameChange: He's called "Lon'zu" in the Non-English European versions.
* FailureToSaveMurder: He was on the receiving end of this by [[spoiler:Ke'ri's parents after she was killed. It's revealed later by Cherche that they forgave him when they learned about how much he meant to their daughter.]]
* {{Fainting}}: Apparently, he'll pass out if a woman he doesn't know tries to grab him by the hand.
* FantasticallyIndifferent: His leveling quotes:
-->''"... Hmph." (0-1 stats increase)''
-->''"... Acceptable." (2-3 stats increase)''
-->''"... Better." (4-5 stats increase)''
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: [[spoiler:The real reason for his fear of women.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:He was set to be Basilio's champion, until the masked Marth came along [[CurbStompBattle and beat him effortlessly.]] Basilio even wonders why Lon'qu lost so easily despite easily beating every other opponent. After a [[SamusIsAGirl certain reveal]], the reason should be obvious.]]
* FragileSpeedster: His modifiers lean him towards this. Specifically, he gets amazing Speed and Skill[[note]]In fact, it's tied with Gangrel for best default non-Robin modifier in the game[[/note]], but is the only character to have poor modifiers in both Defense and Resistance.
* FriendToBugs: In the ''Summer Scramble'' DLC, he reveals to Gaius that he liked to catch them as a kid and finds them fascinating. He's even balancing his sword for a butterfly in his official artwork. Lissa also catches him catching butterflies in one of their support conversations.
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration:
** Because of his gynophobia, Lon'qu supports slower with females than with males. His event quotes also differ between genders, with Lon'qu being reluctant in his responses and questions to females.
** Despite his gynophobia, he functions just fine in Pair Up and Dual Supports with women. In one Support conversation he justifies this by saying they're life-or-death situations, and the adrenaline overrides his fear reaction. More broadly, [[spoiler:he would very much prefer if no-one, male or female died when he could do something about it]].
* GladHesOnOurSide: After training with him in their B Support, Male Robin expresses exhausted relief the Shephard aren't fighting the Ferox.
* HatesBeingTouched: He completely shuts down if a woman manages to close the distance and actually physically touch him. In quite a few of his S Supports, he begins to overcome it.
* HeirToTheDojo: Said to be groomed as Basilio's heir for Western Ferox, but he doesn't seem to really believe in his own ability after losing his position as Western Ferox's representative to Masked Marth.
* HeManWomanHater: Defied. Whenever someone asks Lon'qu if he does hate women, he openly states that even when he can barely talk to any females, he does '''NOT''' hate them in any way.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Lon'qu is very hard on himself, especially about his gynophobia as [[spoiler:he blames himself for Ke'ri's death.]]
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: He's one of your tallest units, so he dwarfs some of his love interests, Lissa, Maribelle, Olivia and Nowi in particular.
* InsecureLoveInterest: In many of his Supports, he beats himself up over the fact that his aversion to women makes it difficult for him to get as close to his love interest as he would like to do. A standout example would be in his S-Support with Maribelle:
-->'''Lon'qu:''' I...feel something for you as well, though I do not have the words for it. I yearn to keep you safe in my arms until the breath leaves my body. And yet, I can barely touch you. It is shameful. I have no right to ask your hand.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: In terms of his [[CannotTalkToWomen gynophobia]]. While Lon'qu is capable of falling in love with and marrying a woman, he never properly gets over his difficulties with interacting with them; he just learns to curb the worst of his condition for the benefit of his wife and any potential daughters.
-->'''Lon'qu:''' ''[to Lissa]'' And as far as my issue with women, you... are the exception.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite his irritable and stern nature, he doesn't have a hateful bone in his body and refuses to hold grudges. [[spoiler:Concerning his family when he marries, he's a surprisingly attentive father and husband.]]
* LoveConfession:
-->''I confess... I do have feelings for... Gods, must all these emotions be so vexing?''
* LuminescentBlush: In his 'confession' scene and the majority of his S supports. It's all the more obvious thanks to how stoic and composed he usually is.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: In his A Support with Lissa, Lon'qu gets hit with an arrow and slaughters several would-be assassins without batting an eyelash.
* MeaningfulName: ''Lon'' is Gaelic for blackbird, a symbol of unluckiness. [[spoiler:His past makes it tragically fitting.]] The second part comes from the Chinese ''qù'', which can be translated as quiet, alone, distance, or departure.
* MistakenForGay: In the Harvest Scramble, Vaike assumes he is due to his rampant gynophobia and word quickly spreads around the army. Lon'qu is not amused.
* MistakenForMisogynist: He's ''afraid'' of women; that's very different from ''hating'' them. And yet, combine that with his grumpy, standoffish attitude and the rudeness he sometimes displays when interacting with female Shepherds and some of them can't tell the difference. His interactions with Lissa and Sully are notable examples, with Sully assuming [[IWasBeatenByAGirl he refuses to spar with her because she's a woman]], and Lissa being confused by his proposal if she and Lon'qu reach an S Support.
-->'''Lissa:''' Is this a WEDDING ring? But wait, you hate women!\
'''Lon'qu:''' I don't hate anyone.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: The 'deftest potato peeler' according to his profile.
* MyGreatestFailure: His inability to [[spoiler:save his childhood friend and apparent FirstLove when she died protecting him from bandits. Her parents (initially) blamed him for her death, so he left.]] Many supports bring up how he's haunted by nightmares of that.
* NoodleIncident: Invoked by his potential children if they ask about his past: he tells them he's done unsavory things to earn his meals in Ferox, before promising he'll be a better father to look up to.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: He ''thinks'' that all females have this if they venture within 15-20 feet of him. Of course, what they're doing is perfectly normal, he's just being Lon'qu.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He maintains an image of being stoic and serious, but he has his silly moments. In his supports with Nowi he genuinely starts to enjoy playing house with her after initially being extorted into it, and in his Summer Scramble conversations he tricks Virion and uses Gaius as bug bait.
* OppositesAttract: With quite a few supports with female characters, as they are often outspoken and optimistic.
* OneHitKill: Can learn Lethality if he goes Assassin.
* ParentalAbandonment: Unsurprising, but his supports with Nowi playing house definitely hint at this, since he has no idea what a regular family is like.
* PerpetualFrowner: He almost always wears a scowl on his face. Female Robin spends most of their support conversations trying to get him to laugh for once.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"No hard feelings."''\
''"I'll make this quick."''\
"''How well will you die?''"\
''"Be silent!"''
* ProducePelting: On the receiving end of this trope in his supports with Female Robin.
* TheQuietOne: Lon'qu does not converse much due to his philosophy that strength speaks louder than words.
* RecurringElement: The Nabarl/Navarre, the early-to-mid game Myrmidon who starts off as an enemy (despite the fact that [[TheUnfought you never fight him]]), carries a Killing Edge when he joins, and seeks to become the strongest swordsman he can be.
* RedOniBlueOni: Forms a classic pair with Vaike as the red to Lon'qu's blue.
** Interestingly, he's the blue Oni to Miriel's red in their supports, since she gets excited about [[ForScience studying his gynophobia.]]
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Savvy Guy to Lissa, Nowi and Female Robin's Energetic Girls.
* StandardFemaleGrabArea: Inverted. If a ''female'' grabs his hand or arm, he completely freezes up and can't do anything about it. He actually has to beg Maribelle to let go of his arm already in their supports.
-->'''Lon'qu:''' That's my arm. You're touching my arm. ... Please stop touching my arm.
* TheStoic: Apart from his gynophobia, this guy seems to be cold as ice most of the time.
* SuddenlyShouting: It seems to be a reflex of his anxiety when a woman tries to approach him.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: A rare male example, but while he seems cold and grumpy initially, he shows through his supports there's a soft, gooey center underneath that.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Though he seems oblivious to it, he is a good-looking guy. Maribelle mentions that he's a "catch worth waiting for".
* TallDarkAndSnarky: He doesn't talk much, but he can still deliver some good snark.
-->'''Tharja:''' Do you know how many hours I spent collecting bat wings?\
'''Lon'qu:''' I have no doubt a woman [[CreepyGood of your ilk]] will find another use for them.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: According to his B Support with Cordelia, it's cabbage stew.
* TrainingFromHell: Having him as a sparring partner is supposedly brutal, according to his support with Male Robin and event tiles with his children. Sully and Female Robin are rather offended when he can't spar with them at the level he normally would be due to his gynophobia.
* UnwantedAssistance: He has this reaction to women trying to do him favors or even approaching him on the battlefield (unless there's immediate danger, which overrides his fear). In his supports with Maribelle, he keeps avoiding Maribelle who is just trying to heal him, to the point where she can't keep up with him ''on horseback''.
* WhenHeSmiles: His support with Female Robin has her making it a goal to try and make him laugh.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Notably with Female Robin, as their clashing of personalities has some effect on distracting him from his phobia. [[spoiler:S-Rank proves it to be [[LoveEpiphany more effective than either of them anticipated]].]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He suffers gynophobia due to a traumatic event in his youth. Although eventually he makes an exception with the female character he marries. An exception is also made for his daughter if the resulting child is female.

A novice Shepherd who looks and acts like a child. While this endears him to the others, he hates being treated as anything but an equal. He sees Chrom as a brother. The most popular with cute animals. His birthday is May 23rd.

->'''Class:''' Mage
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YukiMasuda (Japanese), Creator/YuriLowenthal (English)
----
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: He tries so hard to be important...
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: According to his supports with Lissa he was bullied a lot as a child.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: In his C support with Tharja, Ricken tells her that he's learning [[HeroesPreferSwords fencing]], [[DragonRider wyvern riding]], and even [[MundaneMadeAwesome butter sculpting]].
* BadassAdorable: He's among the youngest of the Shepards, but he's a pretty powerful magic user.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia[[spoiler:, as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Panne, because of his love for animals and curiosity about her species.
* BerserkButton: Genuinely hates being treated like a child.
-->"Don't talk down to me!"
* BigBrotherWorship: He admires Chrom like an older brother, which is especially apparent during their ''Summer Scramble'' conversations. Ironically they don't have any Supports with each other.
* BigDamnHero: Has his moment in Chapter 5. After being [[NotNowKiddo left behind by Chrom]], he comes out of nowhere, knocks out the soldier holding [[BadassInDistress Maribelle]] hostage, and slows Aversa down long enough for both of them to escape.
* BlackMage: As a Mage, he can cast offensive magic.
* BloodKnight: Played for laughs in his supports with Robin, who insists Ricken spends most of his time in battle dismembering opponents and suggests Ricken write home to his parents to tell them the battlefield ran red with the blood of his enemies.
* BlowYouAway: Starts with an Elwind tome.
* ChildMage: Ricken seems to be the youngest in the entire army as everyone else treats him like a little brother.
* ChildProdigy: In the English dub, it's more like a young teen prodigy instead, due to his deeper voice.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: See BigDamnHeroes above. And he insults Aversa to her face before doing so, to boot.
* DraggedIntoDrag: In the ''Harvest Scramble'' DLC, Gregor has Ricken crossdress and pretend to be his girlfriend in order to get out of marrying a drunken woman who proposed to him earlier. According to Gregor, he makes a very convincing girl due to his nobility mannerisms.
* ElementalPowers: Able to wield magic tomes.
* EvilIsNotAToy: Tharja tells him as much when he wants to learn how to do curses from her in their supports.
* FirstNameBasis: The first time Panne calls him by his name instead of just saying something like "[[HeyYou You there]]" is in their S support. He's ecstatic about it, though she is surprised to hear it.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: According to his in-game profile, cute animals like him best.
* HeightAngst: He's ''very'' insecure about his height, and wishes he could be taller.
* ImpoverishedPatrician: Ricken constantly tries to prove himself because he comes from a family of [[BlueBlood nobles]] who have fallen from grace and lost all influence by the time of the game. Ricken is hoping to restore his family's good name by becoming a war hero.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Can form one with Gregor.
* IWantToBeARealMan: More than anything, Ricken wants to become everything that makes a man strong and respectable.
* JackOfAllStats: His growths are quite balanced compared to your typical Mage, though his defenses are still rather [[SquishyWizard poor]]. Notably, Ricken does boast the highest Magic modifier among all the male units (barring Robin).
* JustAKid: Hates getting this kind of treatment.
* KidHero: He's the youngest member of the Shepherds, an army comprised mostly of adults.
* LikesOlderWomen: Most pairings involving him have this, with the exceptions being more or less Lissa and Maribelle (who are around his age or a bit older).
* LoveConfession:
-->''I wish I could throw my arms around you and never let go! Just...wait for me to get a little taller... Okay?''
* MagicKnight: Mounted version if promoted to a Dark Knight.
* TheNapoleon: He's a nice kid, but his desire to be treated as an equal causes him to be quite stubborn at times, and he's self-conscious about his height.
* NoodleIncident: We never find out how his house was left broke and dishonored. What we can gather is that it must have been ''really'' bad when Frederick mentions the Ylisse noble houses' sturdy built reputations, in a support with Virion.
* NoRespectGuy: As studious and skilled as he is, young Ricken is always looking up to others and ''never'' the other way around.
** In the ''Future Past'' DLC, most of the children, if he fathered any of them, will comment on how shrimpy he is if he talks to them. Though this is namely because by the time he's become a father, he's become quite the man.
* PlayingWithFire: Can use fire tomes like all mages.
* PrecociousCrush: He admitted he's had a crush on Maribelle since the [[LoveAtFirstSight first time they met]] in their S support.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Take this!"''\
''"This is gonna hurt!"''\
''"Die!"''\
''"Don't look down on me!"''
* RealMenCook: Some barracks dialogue has him mention that cooking is something all modern men should know how to do. Ricken likes to experiment using a Fire tome.
* RecurringElement: The early to mid game Wind Mage archetype.
* RedMage: If promoted to Sage.
* ReluctantWarrior: He mentions how much he hates the concept of killing in several of his support conversations, yet he fights and kills alongside the Shepherds anyway, mostly because their enemies have no such reservations.
* RescueRomance: If paired with Maribelle. Their S Support reveals he always liked her right from the start.
* RobeAndWizardHat: Ricken's hat would make [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Gandalf]] proud.
* RunningGag: In the DLC ''The Future Past'', his children have trouble recognizing him as their father because of how young he looks (funnier given how they could recognize Donnel and Henry who around his age. Though the former is because of his iconic tinpot helmet and the latter possibly because he either doesn't grow much or he stands out ''that much.'')
* ShockAndAwe: Can use thunder tomes like all mages.
* TakingTheHeat: In their support, Ricken covers for Nowi, which, coincidentally, was for setting a tent on fire.
* TenderTears: In his A support with Panne, he cries after she tells him about what happened to the rest of the taguel. This surprises her, as apparently he is the first human she's ever met to express such remorse over it.
* ThrowTheDogABone: ''The Future Past'' DLC pretty much confirms that Ricken will definitely grow up nicely. If he's fathered Kjelle, she'll even note that he was tall and strapping with broad shoulders while a couple of the others will make similar remarks.
* TinyGuyHugeGirl: Some of his S Supports. Not necessarily because the girls are terribly tall, it's just that Ricken is so young.
* TokenMiniMoe: He's the youngest member of the Shepherds.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: Defied. His C Support with Lissa reveals he hates the concept of killing (to the point he believes he's been holding back) and is only killing to avoid dying himself. He specifically mentions during his B Support with Henry that Plegian soldiers "aren't just faceless blobs with axes".

----
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Inverted. Gaius tells Tharja in one of their supports he's "always had a thing for bad girls".
* AntiHero: Gaius has good intentions, but his profession wouldn't exactly make him a good role model for the kids.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:His supports with Maribelle reveal that after being caught sneaking into the royal treasury, Gaius framed her father as his employer, causing him to be put on trial and nearly executed until an anonymous letter provided evidence to clear him. She quite naturally bears a grudge, until Gaius admits that not only was he the one who sent the letter, he was pressured into breaking into the treasury and framing Maribelle's father for it by his real employers, who threatened Maribelle's life if Gaius didn't go along with their scheme.]]
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: Discussed with Libra. Gaius acknowledges that morally questionable deeds must be committed for the army to succeed and sees himself as the only one suited for the job.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Tharja, probably because they are the only 1st generation characters that are recruited from enemy units.[[spoiler:Which becomes interesting in light of ''Fates'', which reveals that he and Tharja are either the past selves or reincarnations of Asugi and Rhajat, who can also marry. Making this a subtle case of ReincarnationRomance, if the player chooses to]].
* BigEater: When it comes to sweets. He ''never'' stops snacking, even while in the middle of battle.
* BrassBalls: Like [[WideEyedIdealist Donnel]] and [[TheDreaded Henry]], he isn't afraid of Tharja at all. However, he lacks Donnel's optimistic outlook on dark mages and Henry's sheer magical prowess when it comes to deflecting her curses. ''He just doesn't give a damn.''
* BreakoutCharacter: For a completely-optional unit who even starts out as an enemy (if an amicable one), Gaius is very popular with the fanbase, getting a swimsuit scene alongside Chrom, Tharja and Cordelia and like the latter two, he also gets a SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute in ''Fates'', Asugi.
* TheCharmer: Not to Virion's extent, but Gaius does engage in some casual flirting in a lot of his romantic Supports.
* DeadpanSnarker: Most of his dialogues are dripping with snide remarks towards the rest of the army.
* DeclarationOfProtection: In his supports towards Maribelle. Can potentially develop into BodyguardCrush if they reach S rank.
* DistractedByTheShiny: He's normally calm and collected... until candy is involved.
* EasilyForgiven: Anyone in the party who apologizes for suspecting him of something is forgiven easily since he's aware he's a thief and it's only natural to suspect him.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment:
-->'''Chrom:''' You'll risk your life for us if I give you...[[ComicallySmallDemand a bag of candy]]?
-->'''Gaius:''' I said "sweeten the deal", didn't I? Don't get me wrong, I'll take the gold too. Later. Unless you've got more of these. ...Have you got more of these?!
* EveryManHasHisPrice: In his case, it's ''[[SweetTooth sweets]]''. Bribe him with sweets and he'll do anything.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He joined Validar's raiding party to loot Ylisse's treasures, but he'd never think of actually harming their Exalt.
* ExactWords: When he tells Chrom that he'll join him if he sweetens the deal, ''[[SweetTooth he means it]]''.
* {{Fanservice}}: Gets a swimsuit scene in the Summer Scramble DLC chapter, as voted by the fans.
* ForeignQueasine: Not him, but he's rather irked to learn from Sumia that ''bee larvae'' are a delicacy in high Ylissean society (which might as well ''be'' foreign from his viewpoint).
* FragileSpeedster: With his phenomenal Speed, Gaius will easily dodge most attacks that come his way. He also boasts fantastic Skill and surprisingly good [[GlassCannon Strength]]. His Luck and defenses, however, are severely lacking.
* TheGadfly: Some definite shades of this. He certainly does like to troll people, like Female Robin or Chrom in the DLC Scramble packs, but not out of any malicious intent. He just likes teasing people. Very prominent in his supports with Tharja, as his responses to her threatening to curse him boils down to "Bring it."
* GlassCannon: He boasts surprisingly good Strength. His Luck and defenses, however, are severely lacking.
* HeelFaceTurn: Over a bag of candy, no less!
* HiddenDepths: The ''Summer Scramble'' DLC reveals that the profit from all of the items that he habitually scrounges up to sell does ''not'', in fact, go to funding his candy addiction; he uses the money to anonymously fund the army, and is actually upset when Robin learns the truth.
* HollywoodPudgy: Gaius is supposedly a bit out of shape thanks to his constant candy snacking. His C support with Robin mentions that he is "usually in much better shape", while his support with Cordelia establishes him as a slob who doesn't take care of his appearance. His BeachEpisode outfits in both ''Awakening'' and ''Heroes''... doesn't really reflect that. [[invoked]]
* HonorAmongThieves: Make no mistake, Gaius is a hardened crook through and through. He just also happens to be very noble.
* HouseHusband: General housework, embroidery, jewelry, making his own sweets.
* HurricaneOfPuns: All of his Japanese battle quotes use the word, "amai." This word means both sweet (as in taste, since he loves candy) and also describes someone who isn't trying very hard (so, it's used a lot in taunts which mean something like "Is that all?" or "Too naive!") His English ones are in a similar mold, with lines like "What a cupcake!" and "Like candy from a babe!" Some are [[StealthPun much more subtle]], like when he levels up, he sometimes says "Sweet".
* ImpossiblyAwesomeMagicTrick: He appears to be doing this in his supports with Miriel.
* InformedFlaw: Despite being nagged at by Cordelia to take better care of his appearance, and admitting that he isn't in the best shape due to his candy snacking, Gaius is still very attractive, and does not subtract from his swimsuit scene in Summer Scramble.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Crude, but ''never'' malicious.
* KnightInSourArmor: Very aware and embittered in regards to how "checkered" he is in regards to the others. That won't stop him from helping his friends and do what he believes is right.
* LoveableRogue: For a crook, Gaius is pretty dashing.
* LoveConfession:
-->''Baby, you're a river of chocolate in an ocean of cream. I'm gonna steal your heart on a daily basis.''
* LuckySeven: Can gain this as a skill if he goes Trickster. It gives him +20 Hit and Avoid for 7 turns at the start, but he has to rely on his own skill afterwards.
* MarkOfShame: Has a convict tattoo. In his support conversations with Robin, he's embarrassed enough when they see it that he automatically assumes that they're going to blackmail him, and refuses to accept it when they explain that they aren't. As he explains in his A support conversation, he does believe it, but he feels like he needs to pay them off somehow. He's also implied to cover it up with a handkerchief in his Summer Scramble CG, and this carries over to his Summer variant in ''Heroes'', who is wearing the same outfit.
* MasterOfUnlocking: His main shtick as a Thief. He doesn't even need tools or keys to do the job!
* MurderByMistake: Can be a common mistake for beginners of the game, since you can kill him in Chapter 6, removing him from the rest of the story.
* TheNicknamer: In the localized version of the game Gaius often refers to people by nicknames instead of using their given names during Support Conversations. He likes to give the other characters friendly nicknames, like "Bubbles" for Robin, "Stumbles" for [[CuteClumsyGirl Sumia]], "Twinkles" for Maribelle, "Whiskers" for [[LittleBitBeastly Panne]], [[IronicNickname "Sunshine"]] for [[DarkActionGirl Tharja]], "Baby" for [[ProneToTears Olivia]], "Padre" for Libra, "Specs" for Miriel, "Princess" for Lissa, or "Blue" for Chrom.
** Interestingly, Gaius doesn't have a nickname for Sully, instead she has one for him: "Chuckles." He also lacks nicknames for Cordelia (unless you count him sarcastically referring to her as "mother") and Cherche.
** In the [[DownloadableContent DLCs]], there are a few more. "Junior" for Henry, "Your Lordship" for Virion, and "Red" for Anna are all seen only in one-off conversations.
* NobleMaleRoguishMale: In his support conversations with Chrom and Libra, he's the roguish male.
* {{Nosebleed}}: He can get one from a high enough intake of sugar.
* NotWhatISignedOnFor: He had no idea Validar's men were planning to ''kill'' Emmeryn, he just joined for the looting. Once he finds out he immediately states that while he'd rob the exalt blind, he'd ''never'' harm her. The candy was just the "sugar on top" of the excuse [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere to sneak away]] from these people. This is proven when he jokingly suggests to Eirika in Smash Brethren 2 that he'll stop fighting if she gives him candy, and when she ''actually produces some'', he goes:
-->'''Gaius''': ''[[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Woah, woah! I was kidding! Do I look that easy to buy off?]] I like my sweets, but this is one battle I can't back out of.''
* OppositesAttract: This sarcastic, cynical former thief can still steal the heart of the timid and naive Sumia. He's also an easygoing thief who can romance the proud, blue-blooded Maribelle.
* OneHitKill: Can learn Lethality if he goes Assassin.
* OnlySaneMan: Not counting his crippling sugar addiction and giving people silly nicknames, he's actually a lot more grounded compared to most of the Shepherds.
* OralFixation: He always has a lollipop in his mouth.
* OutlawCouple: [[spoiler:His ending with some of his wives, explicitly spelled out for Lissa, Panne and Nowi.]]
* ThePigPen: His supports with Cordelia reveal he's quite the slob, and is noticeably annoyed when she offers to clean him up.
-->'''Gaius:''' Well, as long as it's not slowing me down on the battlefield, right? I'm not some fancywaist who needs to strut about like a peacock.\
'''Cordelia:''' Well, perhaps you should consider it regardless.\
'''Gaius:''' All right, all right. Message received. I'll put on some new clothes, mother.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"What a cupcake!"''\
''"So long, sucker!"''\
''"Piece of cake!"''\
''"Like candy from a babe!"''
* PunchClockHero: His supports reveal a surprisingly noble man, but at the end of the day, Gaius admits he is still a crook at heart.
* RealMenHateSugar: Completely and utterly subverted; [[Series/TheITCrowd Gaius practically lives off sugar!]]
* RealMenWearPink: Gaius is a good baker of sweets, and he is talented at hand-making jewelry.
* ReincarnationRomance: Though not as heavily implied as with Robin/Corrin, Cordelia/Caeldori and Tharja/Rhajat, it is implied that Asugi is the past life/reincarnation of Gaius in ''Fates'', making this trope possible if you pair him up with Female Robin, Cordelia/Caeldori or Tharja/Rhajat.
* {{Reluctant Fanservice G|irl}}uy: Complains about being in a "clown costume" during the Summer Scramble DLC chapter.
* RescueRomance: With Maribelle, in a way. [[spoiler:He framed her father to save her from a corrupt nobleman, then sent a letter that got her father pardoned.]]
* ShoutOut: In his C support with Robin, after they walks in on Gaius while he's bathing, he let's out this gem. ItMakesSenseInContext.
-->'''Gaius:''' [[Film/{{Taken}} If you are looking for ransom, I can assure you I don't have any money. But what I do have are a very particular set of honey cakes...]]
* SlobsVersusSnobs: Having grown up with nothing, Gaius is easily upset by people who are born with everything yet take it for granted. Interestingly, this is discussed in his supports with Chrom, but not with Lissa.
* TheSneakyGuy: Thievery, espionage, infiltration and ''assassination'' are his fortes.
* StarCrossedLovers: [[spoiler:In his epilogue with Maribelle, he returns to a life of crime, while she becomes a magistrate and is noted to "dread the day she would meet her own husband in court".]]
* StreetSmart: In stark contrast to Chrom, Gaius grew up with nothing and had to learn the tricks of the common people to get by. In their C support, he seems to resent Chrom a little for this, but by their A support he's actually excited about showing Chrom the lifestyle of commoners.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He bears some physical resemblance to [[VideoGame/FireEmblemShadowDragonAndTheBladeOfLight Julian]].
* SweetTooth: Gaius ''loves'' sweets, up to the point that he keeps a stash of them in various pockets all over his clothes. There is ''never'' a single conversation in which he doesn't slip in a pun that has to do with sweets, being his TrademarkFavoriteFood and all. He even has a consumable item with his name to it (Gaius's Confect).
* TattooedCrook: He hides a tattoo on his forearm that marks him a convicted criminal. He covers it with a black band and is ''very'' distressed when Robin sees it. [[spoiler:If the comics are canon, he got the tattoo in the same incident where he was forced to frame Maribelle's father.]]
* TooMuchInformation: When Robin accidentally walks in on him while he's bathing, they apologize later and Gaius explains he's usually in much better shape, then starts to go into detail before he's cut off.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Sweets of all kinds, of course. But he really seems to have a thing for honey.
* WontTakeYesForAnAnswer: In his supports with Robin, he insists on trying to bribe them so they won't tell anyone about his tattoo, even after repeated assurances that they won't tell anyone.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's terrified of insects, who often are attracted to his sweets.

-->''"Is Gregor time!"''

A likable merc whose feet have touched the soil of many a land. Years of experience have hardened him - mostly - but he still winces when people harp on about his age. The first to get a crick in his back. His birthday is January 27th.

->'''Class:''' Mercenary
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KenjiHamada (Japanese), Creator/PaulStPeter (under George C. Cole) (English)
----
* TheAhnold: In the English dub, he speaks with a distinctive, rugged-sounding Russian accent.
* AlmightyJanitor: He could very well have become the Khan of West Ferox if he chose to fight Basilio again. He's instead content to be a sellsword and leave it at that.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Gregor's flirting in the support conversations with Robin is the same whether Robin is male or female. There's also the fact that he really seemed to enjoy dressing Ricken up in a dress and parading him around as his girlfriend...
* BadassArmfold: His in-game portrait always shows him with his arms folded, and he's a very skilled mercenary.
* BadassNormal: Aside from being TheAhnold, he doesn't really have any defining character traits. He can't use magic, he's not related to royalty in any way, and he doesn't have a dark and mysterious past. He's just there to kick some ass.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Nowi, as he freed her from slavery.
* BigEater: Not nearly to Stahl's extreme extent, but in his C support with Maribelle, he swipes extra bread from the pantry because the rations don't cut it for him.
* BluntMetaphorsTrauma: He does not have a firm grasp on most idioms and tends to word phrases incorrectly.
-->"You know saying? 'Youth must work like dog to make future better!'"
* ChivalrousPervert: Quite a few of his supports with females involve him teasing them about having crushes on him, though tries to serve as a matchmaker for Cordelia.
** In his support with Robin, Gregor suggests ways for them to keep up their health... such as [[IntimateHealing sharing body heat with him in bed]].
* CoolOldGuy: Gregor is a worldly man and has plenty of useful (and sometimes not-so-useful) things to share with his younger comrades.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: His odd speech patterns and jovial demeanor sometimes lead people to underestimate him. As a hardened mercenary who was able to fight Basilio to a standstill, it's no wonder Lon'qu came rushing to him for a duel. As Lon'qu finds out the hard way, he can draw his blade fast enough to put the former champion of West Ferox to shame.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: Sort of. His A support with Tharja reveals that [[spoiler:Gregor is actually his brother's name, which he adopted out of respect after he failed to save him from bandits]].
* DirtyOldMan: Gregor enjoys the presence of pretty ladies.
* EloquentInMyNativeTongue: Gregor is actually an intelligent, well-rounded individual, despite his... [[TheAhnold impediments]] to effective communication.
* FaceOfAThug: He's a pretty friendly guy, but his appearance often leads to... misunderstandings. See NotWhatItLooksLike below.
* FunnyForeigner: Implied to be this, which explains his broken English.[[note]]His accent only exists in the English Dub[[/note]]
-->'''Gregor:''' Is just, how you say, flatulence? No, wait. ...Flippery? ...Flatness? ...Gregor does not remember. Is that word when people say lies to make other person feel better.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: He's apparently able to put a blade to Lon'qu's neck before Lon'qu can blink in their B Support, but Lon'qu's speed vastly outstrips Gregor's in gameplay.
* GeniusBruiser: While big and muscular, Gregor is shown to be pretty intelligent. He claims that if you aren't smart, then you can't survive as mercenary. Part of this is shown in his knowledge of health and diseases.
* GentleGiant: He's pretty burly and has the bulkier character build, but Gregor is a total sweetheart.
* GroinAttack: Implied in his introductory chapter:
-->'''Gregor''': This day has been nothing but insults and punches to groin.
* HiddenDepths: A rugged and seasoned soldier... who happens to be good with makeup, cooking, and ''[[GeniusBruiser pathology]]''.
* HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood: Mentioned once in his C Support with Cherche. His dad made him stay up in a tree for three days for being a bad boy.
* HulkSpeak: Which, again, does nothing to help his case. It's even {{lampshade|Hanging}}d with one of his critical quotes being ''"Gregor smash!"''.
* HuskyRusskie: His broken English makes him sound like this, though he only has the accent in the English localization.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: In quite a few of his romantic supports, notably with Nowi, Lissa, Maribelle and Olivia.
* InterGenerationalFriendship: With Ricken.
* JackOfAllStats: Gregor is very balanced, having good growths all around, fitting of his Mercenary class. His one glaring flaw, however, is an abysmal Resistance growth.
* LoveConfession:
-->''Now you listen. Gregor promise to bring his beloved many happiness for as long as we both keep on with the living.''
* MatchmakerCrush: [[spoiler:Gets one on Cordelia while trying to help her with Chrom.]]
* MayDecemberRomance: Most of his pairings due to the young age of the cast. If he is paired with [[OlderThanTheyLook Nowi]], he is on the other end of this trope.
* LifeDrain: Through Sol, which lets him regain HP equal to damage dealt if it activates. If he goes Hero he can learn this skill.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: In one of his supports with Olivia, he's completely indifferent to an injury that, according to Olivia, left his bones exposed. While Olivia is patching him up, he calmly recounts to her an occasion where he [[AnArmAndALeg lost a leg]] and sewed it back on.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: He's first seen chasing after Nowi after the latter has run away from him. Due to both his FaceOfAThug above and her dialogue during the scene, Chrom instantly assumes he's just a bad guy attacking her.
* OldMaster: In their supports, Gregor becomes a mentor to Lon'qu.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: Subverted. Gregor initially jokes his paycheck is his main motivation, but it soon becomes apparent he's gained [[FireForgedFriends another reason]] for fighting.
* OrAreYouJustHappyToSeeMe: Says this to the Deadlords during Infinite Regalia.
-->'''Gregor:''' Is that big, legendary weapon, or are you just glad to see Gregor?
* PaletteSwap: His Mercenary armor plating is green instead of the usual blue.
* PerpetualSmiler: Gregor is a pretty cheerful guy.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Gregor smash!"''\
''"Now to face maker!"''\
''"Your jigging is up!"''\
''"Don't want to get along, eh?"''
* RealMenCook: Gregor apparently can whip up a gruel fit for a king using a special spice he makes himself.
* RealMenWearPink: According to his B Support with Cordelia, he knows how to sew and apply make up.
* ScrewTheMoneyIHaveRules: Though he tries to pass himself off as just a mercenary who is OnlyInItForTheMoney, he's willing to turn on his employers if they cross a line he's uncomfortable with.
* SelfDeprecation: Gregor often pokes fun at his own old age and simpleness. He at one point tells Olivia she is serving food for "local oafs", right after she served him food.
* StayFrosty: Parodied. When supporting another unit, he may tell them to "[[FunnyForeigner Stay frosting]]."
* StupidSexyFlanders: In his B Support Conversation with Male Robin. Robin claims he's been having weird dreams about Gregor after drinking one of his health drinks where he dreamt that he was sleeping with his head on Gregor's lap. Ever since then he's been afraid to go to bed. [[spoiler:Turns out, Robin had contracted some kind of disease after being bitten by a millipede.]]
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He shares his quirkiness and wisdom impeded by his manner of speech with [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Danved]], [[MemeticMutation who is certainly not Devdan and fights like ten men]].
* TaughtByExperience: Gregor's life philosophy, He believes that knowledge is natural and that the world knows what it's doing so all you have to do to learn about it is simply watch it.
* ThirdPersonPerson: In the English dub, almost exclusively due to English apparently not being his native language.
* YouAreAlreadyDead: In his B support with Lon'qu, he finally agrees to a duel... then states that he's already won. Lon'qu then realizes that his opponent's blade was already drawn and pointed at his chest before he even noticed.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Most other characters speak proper English, so his accent stands out even more. However, Gregor is in no way unintelligent.

An Ylissean priest with a calming mien. So lovely are his features that strangers often mistake him for a woman. His one flaw is a tendency to get caught up in details. The one with the scabbiest knees. His birthday is July 1st.

->'''Class:''' War Monk
->'''Voiced by:''' Megumi Yamato (Japanese), Creator/CindyRobinson (English)
----
* ApologeticAttacker: Just see his critical hit quotes.
* TheAtoner: He joins up with Chrom because he can't forgive himself for letting Emmeryn die (despite not being there when it happens).
* BadassPreacher: Heck, two of his [[PreMortemOneLiner critical quotes]] are "Repent, sinner!" and "I am your omega!"
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character but Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Cordelia, as both are the sole survivors of parties en route to aid the Shepherds.
* BoringButPractical: Libra is the second promoted unit to join the party (other than Frederick). Players who can get over the fact that he's pre-promoted will find that he has solid growths, not to mention being one of the few War Monks who is guaranteed to have enough Strength and Magic to be useful at both.
* BraidsOfAction: Wears a traditionally feminine braid that wraps behind his head.
* BrokenBird: Gives these vibes when you find out about his DarkAndTroubledPast.
* BrokenHero: Despite everything he's gone through, and indeed having once given into his bitterness, the Libra we know today is a gentle, altruistic man.
* CombatMedic: The earliest character to use a weapon and have the ability to heal other units.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:As a child, his [[ParentalAbandonment parents abandoned]] him because they believed he was under DemonicPossession and he wandered his life bitter and alone until he joined the priesthood.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: And ''[[CrossDressingVoices sounds]]'' like one too in both dubs!
* EmotionlessBoy: As kind as Libra is, he admits to Olivia that his heart "is frozen" and it's very obvious that he has more than a few issues expressing himself and trusting others. He's also generally very low key and reserved around others.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Even after he tells Virion he's a man, Virion continues to flatter him for his looks and tells Libra he's "like a rose". Libra thinks he's funny, but Virion has to remind himself that Libra's still a dude.
-->'''Virion:''' It's just that...your eyes are...so very shiny and pretty... Like two pools...of...something...
** Also, his unpaired ending says that he got proposals from people of ''both'' genders.
* GenderReveal: Normally PlayedForLaughs in the UnsettlingGenderReveal category, but there are also a couple of "normal" reveals.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: The guy is an angel. Libra wouldn't hurt a fly. He'd [[{{Pun}} axe]] a mook, but NEVER a fly.
* HatesBeingTouched: Through a support conversation with Nowi, we learn [[spoiler:that Libra had received a scar on the back of his neck from when he was abandoned. When he received the scar, he developed haphephobia[[note]]A fear of being touched[[/note]].]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Libra doesn't consider himself morally superior to anyone else despite his religious background.
* HolierThanThou: [[DefiedTrope Defied]]. In his support conversations with Gaius, he acknowledges that fighting with the Shepherds means that he has to kill people and even if it's for the greater good, he isn't proud of these deeds; he also believes that he's a flawed human being whether or not he's a priest.
* JackOfAllStats: A magical one, as his modifiers are not that impressive, save for one point in magic in a game where most males either have it unchanged or have a bad one. He does have the best Resistance out of the male first-gen characters (Male Robin excepted).
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: His hair goes down to his upper chest, adding to his feminine appearance.
* LoveConfession:
-->''I am yours forever, my love. May the gods smile upon our union, and bring us joy in the years to come.''
* MagicKnight: CombatMedic version.
* NiceGuy: He may seem a little distant at times (especially when the topic of his past is brought up), but he is definitely this.
%%* NobleMaleRoguishMale: In his support conversations with Gaius, he's the noble male.
* OneHitKill: Can perform this even before you recruit him, since he comes with a Killer Axe.
* OppositesAttract: In his supports with Sully and Tharja.
* OrphanageOfLove: Runs one in almost all of his endings.
* PaletteSwap: His War Monk robes are white, as shown above.
* PapaWolf: If he fathers a child, definitely. [[spoiler:His talk with Yarne if he is his son in Future Past 2 has Libra saying that if the gods see anything wrong with Yarne leaving Inigo and Owain behind to get the Gemstones to Ylisse, they can take it up with him. And this is coming from the most religious character in the game.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: In his supports with Tharja, you find out that [[spoiler:as a child, his parents thought that he was possessed by a demon and abandoned him. He wandered aimlessly, homeless, until he found the faith.]] It was so unpleasant that he was willing to be a test subject for Tharja's experimental memory potion just so he could forget about it.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Repent, sinner!"''\
''"Gods forgive me."''\
''"Rest in peace!"''\
''"I am your omega!"''
* RunningGag: "''[[UnsettlingGenderReveal I'm a man...]]''"
* ScarsAreForever: He has one on the back of his neck. [[spoiler:It's from his mother pulling Libra off of her when she abandoned him, clawing his neck in the process.]]
* SexyPriest: His end credits title is "Fetching Friar".
* ShockAndAwe: He's pictured with a Bolt Axe, a ranged and magic-based weapon.
* SoleSurvivor: Before being recruited, Libra was attempting to save Emmeryn with a group of fellow monks. The others weren't as lucky as him.
* StepfordSmiler: Tharja is actually ''disturbed'' when she finds out ''exactly'' how dark his soul is due to his DarkAndTroubledPast.
* TheStoic: Libra is very reserved and is not noted to smile or otherwise emote much.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He's intentionally made out to evoke [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBlazingBlade Lucius from the Elibe saga]].
** He's an androgynous Monk with long blond hair who is often mistaken for a girl, but this time it's even more convincing due to the addition of voice acting.
** He even has a lot of "suspect dialogue" with a former noble whose possessions were forcefully removed, though Virion is more happy-go-lucky than Raven, and it's mostly one-sided on his part.
** And he founds an orphanage post game just like Lucius. And their names both start with 'L'.
** He also bears quite a lot of resemblance to Reyson, just more muscular and without wings.
* TheQuietOne: Similar to the above, he's also likened to "a ghost" in that his presence is usually very vestigial and that he could disappear at any moment.
* VocalDissonance: As mentioned above, he has a ''very'' feminine voice, being voiced by voice ''actresses'' in both Japanese and English.

A Plegian dark mage with a fetish for bloodshed and an indelible grin. While disarmingly optimistic, he shows a gruesome lack of mercy while on the battlefield. The one with the lowest heart rate. His birthday is November 13th. [[SelfDemonstrating/{{Henry}} Has his own page.]]

->'''Class:''' Dark Mage
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AkemiOkamura (Japanese), Creator/BrycePapenbrook (English)
----
* ThirteenIsUnlucky: His birthday is on 13th of November, and he joins in Chapter 13; if Robin is male, then he will be your 13th male unit. Comes with a side of irony, considering it's World Kindness Day. Then again, [[NiceGuy Henry's also genuinely nice]], [[CreepyGood if a bit odd]].
* AbusiveParents: His parents mostly ignored him, and dumped him off in the woods alone to be RaisedByWolves. [[spoiler:The wolf tried to visit him when he returned home, and she was killed by the townsfolk for her trouble... and Henry [[DespairEventHorizon simply]] [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge snapped]].]] ''Then'' his parents sent him to a BoardingSchoolOfHorrors (English) or an OrphanageOfFear (Japanese), where he was abused when he did something wrong and nearly died on more than one occasion. Henry... did not come out of that childhood with his sanity completely intact.
* AdmiringTheAbomination: He loves Risen since they're just so ''adorable'' to him. It's the first sign that he's not exactly... quite right. He's also fascinated with Dreadlords and thinks their curse sounds like a jolly good time.
* AffablyEvil: Though not exactly "evil", he's still a legitimately very friendly fellow. He can also be very sweet to his friends; unfortunately, this tends to result in him offering to do horrific and/or creepy things on their behalf.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Interestingly played with. He certainly fits the archetype, but when a girl falls for him, it's not because of his badassery or darkness, it's because of how he's a surprising sweetie off the battlefield.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any female first generation character, except Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia, [[spoiler:as well as the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]]]. His fastest support is with Olivia, possibly because they are among the last 1st-generation characters to be recruited.
* BelatedInjuryRealization: Justified. Due to severe nerve damage, he has a very high pain threshold, unable to notice serious wounds unless they're pointed out to him. He claims it's genetic, [[AbusiveParents but there's probably another reason for it.]]
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Tharja, as both are Plegian Dark Mages who enjoy cursing other people. A bit of OppositesAttract as well, as while both are Dark Mages of questionable morality, Henry is an overly cheery, yet insane NiceGuy who genuinely likes helping people, while Tharja is a gloomy {{jerkass}} who prefers to do her own thing, but who is also somewhat more sane and can distinguish between right and wrong. She just prefers to do wrong.
* BloodLust: He has a bizarre fixation with blood and enjoys spilling it most of all.
* BloodKnight: He joins Chrom because he loves war.
-->'''Henry:''' I don't care about politics. I just want to throw fireballs at bad guys.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: To a degree. Henry genuinely doesn't seem to understand that what he's doing could be considered bad, just as long as it's helping the person he speaks to. Cherche comments that he needs to spend more time with people, whereas Panne describes him as a wild animal that needs to be taught humanity.
** Tharja says that it's difficult to determine his true intentions, even with magic, because he doesn't seem to project anything resembling human emotion.
* BoardingSchoolOfHorrors: Was raised in a WizardingSchool version of one so [[ParentalNeglect his parents wouldn't have to take care of him]]. According to him, he has nearly died on multiple occasions while in said school because they would put him in a room filled with ''metal spikes'' as punishment whenever he "did something naughty". Implied to be why he turned out so... unhinged. In the Japanese version, they sent him to an OrphanageOfFear, but it was generally the same.
* BodyHorror: His event tile and level up quotes reveal he's quite enthusiastic about this potentially happening to ''him!'' [[NightmareFetishist ... Meeeeeep.]]
* CastingAShadow: Since Dark Mage and Sorcerer have access to BlackMagic.
* CharacterDevelopment: His supports (especially the A and S level ones) and the ''Summer Scramble'' DownloadableContent show that he's beginning to comprehend just how divorced he is from "normal" people and conventional concepts of morality. He exhibits signs of trying to rectify this, which is likely a direct result of the amount of time he's spending with the Shepherds.
-->'''Henry:''' (to Kellam) When I was a kid, my only friends were wolves, so they ended up raising me. Thing is...that made it tough for me to learn about basic human warmth and affection... Like just now. I tried to be nice to you and show you that I care and stuff, right? But I got it all wrong and instead made you freak out. Sorry about that...
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Often seems disconnected from all rhyme or reason save his own, although the clouds his head inhabits are black, ominous, and probably rain blood.
* CombatSadomasochist: Not only does he love inflicting nasty death, he expresses some glee at getting something similar done to him. And he does ''not'' use safe-words. There is only one exception: When [[spoiler:his child]] asks to train with them, he specifically tells them that a safe word is necessary, because [[BlackMagic his magic]] is pretty nasty. It's actually rather heartwarming. [[CreepyGood In a Henry sort of way.]]
* ComedicSociopathy: Henry really gets a kick out of schadenfreude.
* CreepyCrows: He comes to the map where he can be recruited with an entire flock of crows surrounding him. Tharja's support implies that they are his pagan familiars that protect his identity from everyone.
* CreepyGood: Like Tharja, he is definitely this, what with being a BloodKnight, being unnecessarily cruel, practicing curses, and doing it all with a smile!
* CriticalHit: Can get a really high Critical Hit rate on his own, thanks to his skills.
* {{Curse}}: His supports with Sumia indicate that he's also a practitioner.
* CustomUniform: The Dark Mage outfit is highly {{stripperific}}, with both genders wearing what consists of silk spandex and some cloth for the crotch area (Tharja, herself a Dark Mage, wears a [[PaletteSwap black-colored female outfit]]). As shown above, while Henry wears the usual bottom, he also wears a far more modest sweater on top, and he also touts a black cloak with three eyes sewn on it. Seemingly sensible, since he's still rather young, but he'll wear the regular Sorcerer's outfit if he's promoted into one.
* CutsceneIncompetence: Due to the Father/Noire support being more or less the same regardless of father, Henry never removes Tharja's curses from either him or Noire, despite being so powerful that he can brush them off if he wanted to. This may or may not be justified. In his supports with Noire, he states that Tharja's runny nose curse is so weird, he can't break it.
* DarkIsNotEvil: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zigzagged]] with him. While Henry ''is'' undeniably [[TokenEvilTeammate more malicious and ruthless]] than the other main characters and a very eerie BloodKnight, his casual interaction with The Shepperds show that he's a CreepyGood NiceGuy beneath it all despite his [[BlueAndOrangeMorality utterly odd sense of morality]]. In his case this means that he's a case of DarkIsNotEvil towards towards those he considers his allies and a ''lot'' more dangerous towards he considers his enemies.
* DeathSeeker:
** He often looks for the most gruesome ways to die. He even notes that he wishes to die in the most bloody and horrific manners possible, while having the death being painless. It could also be why he decided to join Chrom's army which is outnumbered and outmatched, for he hopes to die while fighting in it.
** [[spoiler:In his unmarried ending, [[ButNowIMustGo he disappears without a trace]]; many believe that he was DrivenToSuicide.]]
* DissonantLaughter: Hell, his ''death cry'' is a laugh, though noticeably weaker than his usual cackles.
* DissonantSerenity: It takes a special kind of insanity to be smiling whilst telling the person you hope includes you in his army that if he doesn't want you he can just kill you on the spot.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Surprisingly, he can be one towards Cordelia. He openly admits it in their S support, when she catches him training to be "more manly":
-->'''Cordelia:''' Is this another of your schemes to make me feel better?\
'''Henry:''' Nya ha! No, it's a scheme to make you fall in love with me. (...) I'm just gonna work hard so you end up liking me instead!
* TheDreaded: According to Tharja, he was this to his fellow dark mages in Plegia.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:A possible interpretation of his solo ending, in stark contrast to his paired endings.]]
* ElementalPowers: Able to wield magic tomes.
* EveryoneHasStandards: In a conversation with the Einherjar [[VideoGame/FireEmblemMysteryOfTheEmblem Legion]], Henry chides him for assuming that they are similar, stating that he does have morals and a code of honor, even if they are, in his own words, "[[BlueAndOrangeMorality a little messed up]]", compared to Legion just doing what he's told. It is also stated in his paired endings that he became a surprisingly good father to whichever child he has.
* EvilLaugh: "Nya ha ha ha!"
* EvilParentsWantGoodKids: Not evil per se, but he ''is'' a batshit insane Dark Mage with all that that implies. Regardless, he's a DotingParent who outright tells a Brady he fathered in The Future Past that he doesn't want him dabbling in curses, because they take a toll on the body and he's too nice for that.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Even during his confession! He's like [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Oscar]] that way, though his panicked portrait does reveal his eyes; his irises are black.
** His Special activation art in ''Heroes'' shows them to be a light violet.
* {{Foil}}: To Tharja. Both are Plegian Dark Mages that border on TokenEvilTeammate and have creepy streaks though Tharja is female, dark-haired, and scantily clad (like most Dark Mages) while Henry is male, light-haired, and clothed in actual robes. Tharja's misanthropic, cynical, and self-serving, though firmly grounded in reality, while Henry's friendly, seemingly-naive, and ''much'' more gleeful about violence and bloodshed.
* FreakyFridayFlip: Uses magic to do switch bodies with Sumia in their supports.
* FreudianExcuse: His parents completely neglected him and his only friend and substitute parent was [[spoiler:a wolf near the town he was born in.]] Then [[spoiler:the townspeople proceeded to kill the wolf and afterwards, he was sent to an institution/wizard school where there were several rather nasty and deadly experiments done to and by the others. This also included being locked in a room filled with metal spikes as one of their punishments.]] Doubles as a DarkAndTroubledPast, as in his supports it's implied that due to this he genuinely ''doesn't'' understand human empathy at all, and it's ''only'' in his time with the Shepherds that he's starting to really comprehend it.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Crows are quite fond of him. Implied that he gets along great with any animal, including [[DevilInPlainSight Cherche's wyvern Minerva]]. (Even if she attacked him at the start)
* GameplayAndStoryIntegration: Several support conversations, particularly his B support with Olivia, reveal that Henry has difficulty feeling pain. He has very high HP and Defense growths, especially for a mage unit.
* GladHesOnOurSide: He engenders this reaction from quite a few people, and [[BloodKnight with]] [[SociopathicHero good]] [[TokenEvilTeammate reason]].
** In fact, he used to be one of Gangrel's subordinates, but was incapacitated before he could go head to head with the party. Glad he's on our side, indeed.
*** Of course, in the Drama CD, he starts attacking Plegian soldiers because he thinks it's interesting, so this doesn't necessarily apply if he doesn't like you.
* GoodParents: In all of his paired endings[[note]]With the exception of Robin's, which is always the same (though nothing says he wouldn't be this to Morgan anyway)[[/note]], it's stated that he turns out to be a "surprisingly good father". He's the only character ''explicitly said'' by the game to be this. In fact, upon meeting his future child, he immediately shows his own [[CreepyGood unique]] brand of fatherly devotion:
-->'''Henry (when asked about his life):''' "I mostly just sling curses and hang out with crows. But I'm not about to add deadbeat dad to my list of hobbies! [[DeclarationOfProtection I'll take care of you.]] [[HeroicSacrifice Even if I die a horrible death]], I'll protect you from the... [[InnocentlyInsensitive Hey, why the long face?]]"
** In the parent-child supports, he's the only one of Owain's potential dads who doesn't get angry at him for his melodramatic talk of dark blood, and the only one of Inigo's fathers who doesn't tell him that he should be more like Lucina.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: His more unhinged tendencies are mostly played for ([[GallowsHumor dark]]) laughs.
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: Inverted. He joins Chrom's group because being outnumbered gives him many more people/Risen to kill.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Implied. Henry is incredibly quick to latch onto others, and despite his love of the macabre, he almost always uses or suggests it with the intention of making others happy, and he will always stop engaging in it should it make any of his newfound friends uncomfortable. Considering his abandonment issues, this makes a lot of sense.
* IWasJustPassingThrough: He unintentionally saves Lucina's life in the Drama [=CDs=] by killing his own countrymen out of boredom.
* {{Keet}}: A somewhat creepy example because Henry is very enthusiastic in terms of blood and death.
* LargeHam: Almost never, but he does have one shining moment in his A-Support with Olivia:
-->'''Henry:''' "[[BigNo NOOOOO]]! [[SayMyName OLIVIAAAAAA]]! [[PleaseWakeUp Come back to me, Olivia]]! [[GoIntoTheLight Stay out of the light]]! [[SuddenlyShouting STAY OUT OF THE LIIIIIIGHT!]]"
* LastGuyWins: If paired with Sumia, he becomes this, as he is the last possible suitor to join the team. He is usually this to all first generation females, but the player can technically get Donnel after him (and Donnel will always be at the bottom of the support log, regardless of who you get first).
* LateCharacterSyndrome: Although the fanbase adores his personality and supports, he's the last "fully fertile" first generation character to join and does so right before the second generation paralogues open. Depending on the parings that were made, a second generation unit able to do his job better (most likely a reclassed Morgan, Owain, Laurent or Brady) may be recruitable right after he joins.
* LifeDrain: Through Lifetaker, which restores HP when he kills an enemy unit, if he promotes to Dark Knight, as well as the dark magic tome Nosferatu, which restores HP equal to damage dealt.
* LightningBruiser: His stat growths are rather odd; high all around, save for Luck (albeit not as bad as Tharja's), and because he has a good Strength growth, he can transition between his base class and his reclassing options (Thief and Barbarian) with less hassle compared to the other mages.
* LoveConfession:
-->''I'll love you with every ounce of my blood, until I die. Ooh... when do you think that'll be?''
* LoveMakesYouEvil: Played with. Henry's already unhinged, but the things he'll offer to do to help either his friends or one of his love interests is... pretty frightening.
* MagicKnight: Becomes a mounted version if promoted to Dark Knight, but he won't have access to dark magic if he does.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: In one of his supports with Olivia, she notices his clothes are covered in blood, and Henry calmly tastes it and realizes that it's ''his'' blood and that he was wounded in battle. When Olivia asks how he can take it in stride, Henry {{Hand Wave}}s it as nerve damage and a high pain tolerance.
* MercyKill: Offers to do this in the ''Golden Gaffe'' DownloadableContent after Risen steal his things. Considering what those things probably are...
-->'''Henry:''' "Are you the one who stole my bag? Because the stuff in there'll probably kill you slowly and painfully. Just saying. Aw, but I'm a nice guy, so come here. I'll finish you off quickly. Hold still..."
** In his B support with Maribelle, he tells her that he has been working on a curse that {{Mercy Kill}}s people the instant they are fatally wounded, sparing them the pain of dying.
* MoralityChain: If he marries, his wife [[spoiler:and child]] will play this role for him. Whatever else Henry is, it's clear that he loves his family... although his way of expressing it isn't always exactly what one would call "normal."
* MundaneUtility: His supports reveal that he has hexes and curses for a large variety of non-combat situations, including curses that help one sleep and curses that can "cure" having fallen in love.
** When he temporarily fixes some dishes that [[CuteClumsyGirl Sumia had broken upon tripping while carrying them]], he explains to her that using curses for daily stuff is actually a well-spread practice among Dark Mages.
* NiceGuy: While the way Henry tends to act can freak people out, he genuinely likes helping people. Even if the way he goes about it is completely misguided and rather unorthodox.
* NightmareFetishist: See BodyHorror for one. And his response when asked about his dreams?
-->"I want to die a horrible, bloody death that's completely painless. ...I don't like ouchies."
** There's also his mildly terrifying response to fighting one of the Deadlords.
--->'''Henry:''' Dang! That's quite a nasty curse someone put on you. So if I strike you down, you'll come back as strong as before? Sounds like an eternity of agony... Where do I sign up?
* NominalHero: Begins as this. He has no fealty to any Kingdom, he just wants to travel the road with the most bloodshed. He even warned Panne about the assassination attempt on Emmeryn, only because he felt the war would end too soon if she died. He does start to warm up to the Shepherds though, especially if he gets married.
* NoodleIncident: He was apparently incapacitated and therefore unable to assist Gangrel during his final fight against Chrom, but it's never made clear exactly what happened to render him unable to fight.
* NoSocialSkills: Very much so. Henry chooses to introduce himself to Chrom in the middle of an ambush by the Risen, and makes [[PungeonMaster non-stop crow puns]] while surrounded by a flock of ravens... while the Risen begin their assault.
* ObliviouslyEvil: What do you mean killing birds so Lissa can sleep is a bad thing?
** In his A Support with Panne, he offers to murder Chrom in order to plunge humanity into unprecedented levels of chaos and bloodshed, all in the name of making a friend happy. He ''does not understand'' what's wrong with doing so if the end result would be Panne feeling better.
** His S support with Tharja may be the most extreme example. Completely out of nowhere, he cheerfully offers to bloodily murder everyone in camp if it would make her happy. Tharja asks what the hell is wrong with him. ''Tharja!'' When the resident {{yandere}} StalkerWithACrush is questioning your mental state, you're ''really'' off the deep end.
* OddFriendship: With anyone, really, but his supports with Frederick stand out the most.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: Owain's B support with his father has them be ambushed. Every other father in the game flees the ambush with Owain. Henry? Henry [[YouShallNotPass orders Owain to run while he holds them off]]. The scene then cuts to Henry catching up to him, having ''taken out the entire ambush by himself''. It's also implied he did so '''without''' sustaining any injuries beyond the arrow [[TakingTheBullet he took for his son at the very beginning]].
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: In his A Support with Olivia, he gets visibly flustered and actually ''[[BrokenTears breaks down crying]]'' when he comes ''very'' close to failing to save her from an enemy assassin.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: Due to his ''extremely'' quirky and unique personality being forced to fit the general template of the generic father supports, a huge number of his supports with his children are this. He's generally portrayed in his parental supports as several hundred times easier to weird out than he usually is, such as in his first support with Cynthia, where he, like any other father of Cynthia, makes his injured face simply by being told about her mildly weird ideas for dramatic entrances.
* PapaWolf: In Owain's B support with his father, they are surrounded by enemy archers. With other fathers (including the likes of Lon'qu and Robin), they both make a hasty retreat. Henry though? He will tell Owain to go on without him as he takes care of the archers. He then proceeds to kill them all ''single handedly''. It's also implied that he managed to do so without a scratch.
* PerkyGoth: Sully says he's awfully sunny for a dark mage.
* PerpetualSmiler: Whether it's a goofy smile, an [[TheUnSmile UnSmile]], or a SlasherSmile, he always has some form of a smile on his face.
* PetTheDog: Surprisingly, when Olivia thinks she is going to stop him from [[MercyKill mercy killing]] an injured puppy in their C support, he calls her crazy because [[HeroesLoveDogs he loves dogs]]. He seems to have a soft spot for animals in general, actually.
** In the original Japanese text, he does offer to kill it -- but as a mercy, because its injuries are so severe.
** His paired endings say that, for all his flaws, he can be a pretty decent dad for his kids.
** The ''Summer Scramble'' DownloadableContent is pretty much nothing ''but'' PetTheDog moments for Henry, to the point that it seems that he's genuinely beginning to gain some sort of understanding of human emotion and empathy. Libra notes that Henry has been deliberately risking his life to save civilians and his comrades; when Henry tries to laugh it off, Libra [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre points out]] that he's ''seen'' Henry observing the battlefield and moving to help those in danger. Henry's response to this is a very telling VisibleSilence.
* PlayingWithFire: Comes with an Elfire tome.
* ThePollyanna: As revealed in supports, nothing really gets to him. An interesting example though, as he is quite unhinged.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"Have some death!"''\
''"Special delivery!"''\
''"[[EvilLaugh Hahahahaha!]]"''\
''"I'm gonna kill you!"''
* PsychopathicManchild: Between his perpetual optimism, {{Cloudcuckoolander}} tendencies and insanity, his support conversations with Nowi and Frederick suggest that he has signs of this.
* PunchClockHero: Similar to Tharja. Though, he joins because he figured he'll last longer with them than against them.
* PungeonMaster: He loves puns. [[HurricaneOfPuns His recruitment is probably the best example]], but he even sneaks a few into his level up quotes.
* PureIsNotGood: Tharja says that his power derives from his purity. He is kinda crazy.
* RaisedByWolves: [[spoiler:And then his fellow townsmen killed her.]]
* RedMage: As a Dark Mage, Henry has access to the versatile [[BlackMagic Dark Magic]] in addition to standard magic.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: In his supports with Ricken, Ricken notes that Henry didn't care at all that his fellow Plegians were killed by the Shepherds, and asks Henry if he'd care at all if Ricken were killed. Surprisingly, Henry tells Ricken that he'd actually be very sad and ''angry'', and would hunt down the person responsible. And kill them. Bloodily. ...Oh yes. There would be blood.
** It's strongly implied that he went on one of these after [[spoiler:his wolf OnlyFriend was murdered; he all but says that he bloodily slaughtered all of the people responsible for her death]]. He was [[TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior just a kid at the time]].
* SexEqualsLove: In his S support with Nowi. [[spoiler:Throughout the support, Nowi gets sad that she has no Manakete friends - so Henry makes an illusion for her. The problem is, she doesn't like it because it's not real, so he goes away and has a think about what to do. When he returns, he says that, if they have lots of kids, she'll have plenty of Manakete friends to play with]]. Yes, really.
* SleepCute: In his A-Support with Lissa, Lissa ends up falling asleep on him.
* SociopathicHero: His creepier moments (and he has quite a few) land him in this territory.
-->'''Ricken:''' Henry, it's my job to kill Plegian soldiers... So I have to believe that they deserve to die. [[WhatMeasureIsAMook But now you've reminded me that they aren't faceless blobs with axes]]. [[EvenMooksHaveLovedOnes They have friends, and families, and...]] H-how am I going to fight them if I know that? What if I hesitate?\
'''Henry:''' You're weird. [[ButForMeItWasTuesday I don't see the problem here at all.]]
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: And flower. And insect. In fact, as long as it's alive, Henry can have a conversation with it.
* StepfordSmiler: In the Japanese version, he is revealed to actually be quite empty inside, and simply fakes his happy-go-lucky demeanor. In the English version, however, it's not quite clear if his eccentricities are seemingly genuine, if he's gone off the deep end, [[TakeAThirdOption or probably a mix of both.]] However, his conversation with Inigo in ''The Future Past'' has him straight up admit that he's actually faking his smile.
* StoryBreakerPower: An InformedAbility restricted to his support conversations, but according to those, he has a few hexes that have rather large potential, including the ability to kill people from huge distances with just a hair, switch bodies with others and even to temporarily reverse time. He is also a master at dispelling enemy magic and can even return it straight to the sender.
** His Supports with Robin also reveal he eventually learns how to summon Risen (albeit without control over them) and send them against their enemies. Sadly, [[GameplayAndStorySegregation he can't do this in actual combat]]. Of course, Robin specifically orders him not to, considering the Risen would eventually start tearing into nearby towns.
* TokenEvilTeammate: More so in the English version than in the Japanese version, though.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: ''Very'' troubling. When he was a kid, he [[spoiler:made sure that the people who killed his wolf friend paid ''in blood'']].
* TheUnsmile: His "angry" portrait.
* VoicesAreNotMental: His voice clips don't transfer to Sumia when he switches bodies with her in their support conversations.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Henry might not be ''evil'', but he's not exactly ''good'', either.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Libra tells him this in one of the DLC Scrambles. Kellam also seems to think so, though he doesn't openly say it.

The West-Khan of the militant nation of Ferox, he respects those with valor. He often acts and speaks in a silly way, but he is deceptively quick-witted and definitely possesses the strength befitting of his position. He acts as a fatherly protector of Chrom and co. and is both the rival and friend of the East-Khan Flavia. Has the biggest reactions among his companions. His birthday is August 13th.

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MasakiTerasoma (Japanese), Creator/PatrickSeitz (English)
----
* EleventhHourRanger: He and Flavia are the last two recruitable characters in normal gameplay, [[spoiler:dropping a big twist in the process]].
* AffectionateNickname: Flavia calls him "oaf", but it's not always affectionate.
* AmbidextrousSprite: His portrait gets mirrored when switching sides during conversations. This results in his eye-patch flip-flopping eyes. Oddly enough, his confession scene also has his right eye patched, when his official artwork and game model have his left eye patched.
* BadassBoast:
-->'''Mustafa:''' Ylisseans! I offer you mercy! Surrender to me now and live!\
'''Basilio:''' Surrender? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the word.
* BaritoneOfStrength: Has quite a deep basso voice, and he can axe enemies with ease.
* BaldOfAuthority: While's not exactly the leader ''per sé'' once his army integrates with Chrom's, he's got considerable authority regardless.
* BattleCouple: Potentially with Female Robin if S Support is achieved.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He's wild and goofy, but he's still a great fighter. He's consistently said to be one of the Shepherds' supporting pillars once he allies with them, and he even lands a CriticalHit on Walhart, [[GameplayAndStorySegregation despite a 0% critical rating]].
* BigDamnHeroes: He and Flavia get the drop on [[spoiler:Validar in chapter 23]] after revealing that [[spoiler:he faked his death against Walhart and has been hiding the true gemstones since then.]]
* TheBigGuy: He serves as this role for the Shepherds' army after the timeskip, bringing in the bulk of the Feroxi army to distract the Valmese Empire while Chrom's elite force drops behind enemy lines. [[spoiler:[[BigGuyFatalitySyndrome He's initially thought to be killed by Walhart in chapter 17]], but later reveals he's faked his death to prevent Validar's spies from tracking the gemstones needed to complete Grima's ritual.]]
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: He's an axe-wielding Feroxi warlord.
* CannotSpitItOut: In his supports with Female Robin, he keeps trying to recruit her as his tactician, and then as his ''toady'' (which Robin is rather insulted by). In his S support he reveals that what he ''really'' wanted her for was to be his wife.
* CatchPhrase: Basilio frequently brings up his "sweet brown arse."
* TheCharmer: Well, he tries, anyway.
* ColonelBadass: Serves this role once his and Flavia's Feroxi army integrates with Chrom's.
* CurbStompCushion: [[spoiler:Walhart completely outmatches him, but Basilio does manage to land a critical hit before going down.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: He has quite the list of sardonic quips, and his sense of humor tends to stay in the sarcastic range.
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler:He's seemingly killed by Walhart, only to turn out to be alive and having avoided Validar's spies.]]
* EyepatchOfPower: Wears one over his left eye. Despite his handicap, Basilio still manages to be one of Ferox's fiercest fighters.
* HonorBeforeReason: He tries to take on Walhart, even after he gets critically injured by him. It doesn't go well. [[spoiler:In the BadFuture, this is what killed him there. In the present however, Lucina's words causes him to realize that [[KnowWhenToFoldEm Walhart is way too strong even for him]], and he [[PlayingPossum plays dead instead]], allowing him to swap the stones in the Fire Emblem with forgeries when Validar's spies weren't watching, and pull off a BigDamnHeroes moment later on.]]
* {{Joke of the Butt}}: He likes to bring up his "sweet brown arse!"
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:In the BadFuture timeline, he was killed by Walhart. In the present time, Lucina warns him about this, but he still falls in battle against Walhart anyway, although he turns out to have survived this encounter, if barely.]]
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Basilio has a firm understanding of when it is best to pack up and retreat. When it comes to personal battles, however, he [[HonorBeforeReason hates to admit defeat]], [[spoiler:but this ultimately saves his life.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: Ruler of West Regna Ferox, he's also the biggest playable character. [[spoiler:Unless we count Walhart.]]
* LateCharacterSyndrome: Suffers this on the easier two difficulties. His stat bonuses on the later two make him useful, however.
* LightningBruiser: His modifiers lean him towards being a physical one, though magic can still do quite a lot of damage against him, and his starting stats and class makes him somewhat of a GlassCannon (albeit a not too fragile one).
* LoveConfession:
-->''Just think of all the fun times we're gonna have! All the battles! Heh, I'm gonna make you proud!''
* MeaningfulName: Basilio is a name of Spanish origin meaning "king"
* MyRulesAreNotYourRules: Pulls a critical during his scripted fight with Walhart, despite having a 0% crit rate.
* NoodleIncident: He promises to tell Male Robin a funny story involving a cat and a sandbag.
* OhCrap: His reaction word-for-word when he meets [[OneManArmy Walhart]].
* ParentalSubstitute: He acts like a surrogate father towards both Olivia and Lon'qu, though it's most pronounced with the former. Their supports with each other consist of bonding over trying to puzzle out one of Basilio's famous swordsmanship tricks.
* {{Pirate}}: According to his conversation with Morgan, if he's Morgan's father, Basilio used to be one, before becoming Regna Ferox's West-Khan.
* PlatonicLifePartners:
** He and Flavia are unique in the sense that they are the only two characters of opposite sex who aren't related and yet they cannot marry each other. Hence, they can only get up to an A rank support.
** He also has similar platonic relationship with Olivia, even though they're unable to support, and details of this is only revealed through Olivia's other supports. Their relationship has more father-daughter vibes due to their age difference, though.
* PlayingPossum: [[spoiler:He survives his battle with Walhart by pretending to be dead, and just barely clinging to life.]]
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: He's one of the khans of an entire nation of proud warriors.
* PreMortemOneLiner

* RankScalesWithAsskicking: Before being dethroned by Flavia, he held absolute authority over the powerful nation of Regna Ferox. He's also one of the game's biggest badasses.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: After Chrom gets to know him, Basilio is revealed to be surprisingly level-headed and wise.
* TheRival: To Flavia, although it's arguably a FriendlyRivalry.
* ScaryBlackMan: If he's not on your side.
* ScrewDestiny: "Don't you put any stock in this 'destiny' hogwash."
* TrademarkFavoriteDrink: Mead.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Flavia.
* TheWorfEffect: Naturally being both badass and FamedInStory, he's the game's go-to guy for this trope.
** After Chapter 12, you find out Basilio and his army took a devastating blow from the Valmese forces off screen. The characters explicitly comment on how "they must be tough if they beat his forces".
** The second time, [[spoiler:he's going up against Walhart himself, and gets his ass handed to him in proper fashion to show off how much of a beast Walhart is in combat]]. That said, [[spoiler:it also ends up being a huge fake-out, as Basilio fakes being dead thanks to Lucina's warning so he can come back and be a [[BigDamnHeroes Big Damn Hero]] later on]].

----
* EleventhHourRanger: All of the {{Secret Character}}s, as Donnel's paralogue is available early and the [=SpotPass=] Paralogues don't open up until you're almost done with the game.
* DownloadableContent: All of the {{Secret Character}}s are of the free kind, through [=SpotPass=]. You have to enter their Paralogues and fulfill their requirements to actually get them however.
* IrrelevantSidequest: You recruit them through these.
* LateCharacterSyndrome: The last [=SpotPass=] characters subvert this. They start off with ridiculously high bases, growths, modifiers, and a unique combination of skills. They'll catch up with the rest of your units in no time.
* OptionalPartyMember: The various paralogue chapters are all independent missions and not required to complete the main quest.
* SecretCharacter: Every [=SpotPass=] Paralogue character. Priam especially stands out, as while the other [=SpotPass=] characters have roles in the main story, Priam is only found through the chapter he's recruited from, and his presence was only hinted by the fact that his voice actor was credited in the credits and that he could support with Robin and Male Morgan (if he is the father).
* WalkingSpoiler: All of their recruitments are rather shocking, with the exceptions of Donnel and to a lesser extent Priam.

-->''"C'mon, Donny--!"''

A villager from a remote corner of Ylisse who came to fight with little more than farming experience. However, he is eager to learn and shows a great deal of promise. The one with the curliest hair. His birthday is June 4th.

->'''Class:''' Villager
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MitsuhiroIchiki (Japanese), Creator/SamRiegel (English)
----
* TheAce: In ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes'', among all the other villagers working for the Order of Heroes, he's known as the "mightiest villager." [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBlazingBlade Wil]] gets to see Donnel singlehandledly defeating an entire squad of ''wyvern riders'' without breaking much of a sweat, though Donnel admits that he hasn't even heard the title others have given to him and just focuses on battles as they're just farm work to him.
* AlmightyJanitor: If one keeps him as a Villager as long as possible to max out his stats, he'll end up with some ''very'' high stats for a crappy Villager class. When he gets promoted he'll have stats that 2nd-tier units would envy... as a level one Mercenary or Fighter.
* BadassAdorable: He's just a simple kid trying his best to pretend he has a clue of what he's doing. And yet he'll still skewer you like a boar with ease once he's got some experience under his belt.
* BattleCouple: Can be paired with any first generation female, except Sumia, Anna, Say'ri, Tiki, and Flavia or the female [[SecretCharacter SpotPass characters]]. He is the only optional first generation party member to not be restricted to Robin in fact, but supports equally (slowly) with all marriageable females.
* BigThinShortTrio: Forms one with Stahl (Thin) and Kellam (Big). Donnel serves as the Short member.
%%* BlueWithShock: One of his character portraits.
* BookEnds: His first appearance is in a Paralogue that, if he gains a level, ends with him leaving his village to join the Shepherds. [[spoiler:In his epilogue, he returns home and goes back to being a normal farmer; if he's married, he brings his wife home to meet his mother as well, with some interesting variations.]]
* BornLucky: In-game he's the only character that is guaranteed to cap Luck without grinding to full level, and he has a ridiculously high cap for it as a Villager.[[note]]To be more specific, he starts off with around 12 Luck at level one, compared to Luck-Asset Robins who usually need some time to get that high, and thanks to Aptitude, he has the highest Luck growth rate at 100%, compared to the second highest of a few other characters at 80%[[/note]]
* BucketHelmet: He wears it throughout the game, even after changing classes. Which can be odd when he's wearing full plate armor and still has a cooking pot as helmet. When Kellam becomes curious about this and investigates, [[spoiler:it turns out to be an unorthodox method of taming his supremely MessyHair]].
* ComingOfAgeStory: In Donnel's paralogue, he must overcome his insecurities in order to become a true soldier, marking the loss of innocence and transition into adulthood.
* CountryMouse: Donnel never strayed far from his quiet village, so he is in complete awe of soldier life.
%%* DareToBeBadass: Chrom gives him one.
* DarkIsNotEvil: How he views dark mages. In his supports with Tharja, you find out that the people in his home village were expected to help their resident mages cast curses, because the curses would be set upon harmful forces, not the villagers themselves.
-->'''Donnel:''' That's what the dark arts are all about, right? Using dark forces fer the greater good?
* DeepSouth: In case you didn't realize he was a FarmBoy right away. Particularly notable because while his mother shares this accent, and it's implied the rest of his village does too, no other Ylissean peasants, even amongst the Shepherds, talk like this; the implication is that it's a regional thing.
* DisappearedDad: His father was killed by the boss of his chapter sometime before Donny met The Shepherds. Despite this Donny has no different dialogue for the boss than any other unit.
* FarmBoy: Before running into the Shepherds, he was a simple farm hand. One of his roles in the army is tending to their crops and securing food.
* GeniusDitz: In some supports, such as the one with Maribelle, Donnel reveals that he is in fact much smarter than he seems to be. He also has the [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration skill "Aptitude"]] which increases his growths by 20% across the board.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has an X scar on his left cheek.
* HerosJourney: Donny rises to the [[CallToAdventure call]], fights the good fight, and in the end, he -- and his wife, royalty or not! -- returns to the peaceful farming village he knows so well. In fact, his ''Cipher'' trading cards reveal that the Hero is his ''canon'' class (upgrading from Mercenary after switching from Villager).
* HeroesPreferSwords: Well, if he becomes a Mercenary, and we even see him train with one in the trading cards, using it when promoted to be a Hero. Appropriate given his theme.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: In his supports with Stahl, Donnel tries to find a special talent so that he can have his own place in the army.
* ImprovisedWeapon: As a Villager, the spear in his battle model looks like a makeshift weapon that he made himself (even if he's wielding a high caliber lance). He also mentions that he could just cobble something together when selecting him to buy something in a shop.
* InSeriesNickname: "Donny."
* JackOfAllStats: His cap modifiers keep him from being too special once the children come into play and your other units begin to catch up to him, his only outstanding stat being Luck, with only decent Strength and Defense and being poor in everything else. He can, however, get a high HP total, due to him having a 105%[[note]]85% base + 20 from Aptitude[[/note]] growth rate[[note]]His max HP goes up by one with ''every'' level; but since the rate is above 100, it means he (in this case) has a 1 in 20 chance of his HP going up by ''two'' when he levels up.[[/note]] in that stat.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Played with. Donny lacks much in terms of book knowledge, thanks to being a simple FarmBoy, but he's shown in some of his supports to be a fast learner, implying he's inexperienced rather than unintelligent.
** [[spoiler:Most likely inexperienced, as Donny also mentions in one of his supports that his little village doesn't even have a school, and he was taught how to read by his grandmother.]]
* LoveConfession:
-->''I love ya. I don't reckon I could live without'cha. Let's you n' me settle down on the farm!''
* MagikarpPower: He has pitiful starting stats but comes with Aptitude, which increases ALL of his growth rates by 20% without penalty. He's extremely difficult to train as a Villager, but can become ''incredibly'' powerful. And unlike many other cases in the series, this is actually built into his character too; the sidequest you get him in focuses on him overcoming his fears of being useless, and ''getting him to level up at least once'' is how you recruit him. He's one of the most powerful non-Robin or Morgan characters in the game if you promote him.
* MamasBoy: A positive example of this trope, he's very close with his Ma and wants to do her proud.
* MeaningfulName: "Donnel" is a Gaelic name for "brave" and "dark haired one."
* MessyHair: [[spoiler:This is the main reason why he wears a pot all the time. His hair underneath that resembles an ox in his words, and he was never able to tame it.]]
* NiceGuy: Donnel always pays great respect to his comrades due to admiring them as real knights and warriors. He's especially sweet to Lissa, going out of his way to humor her desire for a younger brother.
* OptionalPartyMember: He'll only join if you level him up at least once during Paralogue 1.
* PhotographicMemory: He memorizes a DoorStopper about Ylissean law that Maribelle lends to him.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"YEEEEEE-HAW!"''\
''"Get ready!"''\
''"How 'bout this?"''\
''"C'mon, Donny...!"''
* ShoutOut: He'll shout "Let's [[Creator/LarryTheCableGuy get 'er done]]!" in battle sometimes.
* SouthernFriedGenius: Becomes one after Miriel teaches him in their support conversations.
* SuperIntelligence: [[HiddenDepths Surprisingly enough]], he's shown to have an exceptional memory.
* SureLetsGoWithThat: His reaction when Kellam guesses that his pot helmet is a lucky charm. [[spoiler:It isn't. See MessyHair above]].
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Of [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Nephenee]], being a humble farmer with a strong country accent who becomes an absolute wrecking machine after joining the army.
* TagalongKid: At first, he's there because Chrom can't make him go away when the party is freeing the other captured villagers. He stays this way for a while too, until MagikarpPower kicks in.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Wild game meat, particularly boar meat.
* TragicKeepsake: A small rock from his late father.
* UptownBoy: His relationship with his wife if paired with any of the noble girls. It's explicitly played up in his support with Maribelle.
* WeakButSkilled: Tons of potential, but very weak at the start. Eventually the "Weak" part gets subverted as he becomes a force to be reckoned on his own.
* XMarksTheHero: An X-shaped scar on his face.

-->''"I intend to grow strong. Stronger than anyone..."''

A man who can only be met and recruited through the last [=SpotPass=] paralogue. Descendant of the [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Hero of the Blue Flames]]. He travels the world, seeking only power, and enjoys fighting against people stronger than him. His swordsmanship is first-class, but he's not exactly bright. Surprisingly social and easy to get along with. Likes meat more than anyone in the army. His birthday is February 9th.

->'''Class:''' Hero
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/DaisukeOno (Japanese), Creator/JamiesonPrice (English)
----
* EleventhHourRanger: He's as eleventh-hour as it gets - Priam is neither seen nor heard of any time during the story, and like the other [=SpotPass=] Paralogues his chapter only comes up right before the Endgame.
* AmbiguouslyRelated: He claims to be a descendant of Ike, and this is supported by a physical resemblance and him wielding Ragnell. However, Ike’s [[ChasteHero complete lack of interest in women]] throws a wrench in this idea.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Starts with Luna. Which he can't get through his reclass options.
* BashBrothers: With Male Robin, if A support is reached.
* BattleCouple: Possibly with Female Robin, if S Support is achieved.
* BloodKnight: Priam lives for fighting, building his entire life around it.
* BoringButPractical: The strategy he uses against you in his [=SpotPass=] chapter. He's in the middle of a massive enemy force (50 units) [[TheWarSequence that all come charging after you]] in one overwhelming ZergRush. Priam is of course the strongest enemy on the field, and given his dangerous skillset and the number of other enemies you're trying to deal with, it's easy for him to get the drop on you in a crowd.
* BraggingRightsReward: Priam's paralogue is the hardest mission in the game, harder than even the final battle. As a result, once you recruit him you really don't have anything left to sic him on. Unless you get some of the harder paid DLC.
* CanonWelding: He claims to be a descendant of [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Ike]], and also wields what happens to be a very worn-out Ragnell.
%%* CoolSword: Ragnell, although it's noticeably worn out.
* DeadpanSnarker: Infrequently, but his wit is no duller than Ike's.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Exactly how you recruit him. Priam apparently amassed his former army by employing this method himself.
* ExcaliburInTheRust: His Ragnell is visibly dull, full of cracks, and its very brittle hilt is crudely wrapped in bandage just so it won't fall apart. Not as awesome as when Ike wields it, but still an awesome rank A sword nevertheless.
* AFatherToHisMen: He's gathered soldiers and warriors from every nation, and also fosters an unique brotherhood with them.
* FinalBoss: Of the paralogues. He's got a massive army under his command, is nearly capped in all stats at base, has an unbreakable 1-2 range sword (unbreakable as an enemy, anyway), and possesses an unholy combination of skills: Swordbreaker, Axebreaker, Lancebreaker, Luna AND Sol!!
* HeroesPreferSwords: Well, his Sword rank is better than his Axe rank, and he wields Ragnell, so...
* HeroicLineage: Among other things, [[RealMenEatMeat he loves to eat meat]], just like Ike. Curiously, he has not inherited Aether, Ike's trademark skill, though he does have the two skills that make up Aether: Sol and Luna.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Before being recruited, he led his own BadassCrew and carried a legendary sword passed down from a famous ancestor, not unlike Chrom or any main Lords from other games.
* LargeHam: When he ''really'' gets into his rambles.
-->''"Fail to perform maintenance, and it may well cost you... EVERYTHING!"''
* LastGuyWins: You can pair him with Female Robin, and since he's found in the very last [=SpotPass=] paralogue and isn't seen at all during the main story, he's very much this.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: When leveling up with most stats capped:
-->''"I've learned all I can from this class... Next!"''
* LifeDrain: Sol, which lets him regain HP equal to damage dealt if it activates.
* LightningBruiser: A physical variant. Starts with all stats (except magic and resistance) capped or close to capped depending on the difficulty. His modifiers lean him more towards a physical MightyGlacier, though.
* LoveConfession:
-->''You give my strength new purpose—and meaning. I'll let the world burn before I see you hurt.''
* MasterOfYourDomain: A major part of his training regime is harnessing and utilizing his LifeEnergy, or chi.
* MotorMouth: Get him on a subject he likes, and he'll ramble on and on.
* PreMortemOneLiner
-->''"[[BattleCry For the]] [[MythologyGag Blue Flame!]]"''\
''"Rest in peace!"''\
''"The strong survive!"''\
''"This is the end."''
* TheQuietOne: Most of the time. Get him on a subject he's interested in, though, and he'll become ''very'' talkative.
* ShroudedInMyth: The first thing Chrom talks about in his paralogue is how he heard rumors of a descendant of the [[VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance Hero of Blue Flames]]. Priam soon appears and refers to himself as the hypothetical descendant.
* StealthHiBye: All over the place in his supports with Male Robin. He even surprises Chrom like this at the start of his paralogue.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: The Ragnell can be used as a ranged attack in this style.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Meat, just like Ike.
* {{Tsundere}}: When he proposes to Female Robin, he tries to deny that giving her a ring means anything, though he eventually admits how he really feels when it's clear that she isn't fooled. He even shows hints of being this in his A support, when he also tries to deny how much [[LuminescentBlush he's blushing]] after finding out that she cleaned his training gear [[TextileWorkIsFeminine and washed/sewed his clothes]]:
-->I am a warrior of the sword. Nothing fazes me. Nothing!
* WalkingSpoiler: A mention in the credits is the only thing that hints that he is in the game at all, which gave him a lot of spoiler-filled entries for a while.
* WorthyOpponent: To Walhart.
