A young member of the Red Lynx sky pirates. He finds Ren in a coffin and becomes her Pledger, someone who bonds with a Edel Raid and he promises her that he will be the one to escort her to Edel Garden.
----
* AccidentalPervert: He has a few of these moments, such as when he bursts into the girl's bathroom to save Ren from drowning and ends up falling on top of a naked Cisqua.
* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: His main priority is to protect Ren at all costs.
* BodyguardCrush: He assigns himself as Ren's personal bodyguard in her journey to Edel Garden, although it's more of an excuse to hang around the girl he likes.
* TheChampion: Everything Cou does is for the sake of protecting Ren and taking her to Edel Garden safely.
* CooldownHug: In the final volume, he undoes his reaction with Ren to give her a hug and stop her RoaringRampageOfRevenge over [[spoiler:what the people of Edel Garden did to poor Cia.]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: He promises to protect Ren many times.
* TheDefroster: The aloof Ren gradually opens up because of Cou's kindness towards her.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: At the beginning of the story, Cou admits he never had anything specific he wanted to do. By meeting Ren, he instantly decided his goal is protecting her. At the end of the manga, he talks to Ren about how his journey together with her helped him find his own dream of forming his own crew of sky pirates with all the TrueCompanions they gained.
* DisneyDeath: In the final episodes of the anime, [[spoiler:Cou is killed during the battle against the three leaders of Chaos Choir. Soon enough, Eve uses the last of her strength to revive Cou.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: He can be ''very'' easily LuredIntoATrap by cute girls in PlayboyBunny costumes.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: He's an infamously terrible pilot and driver and frightens everyone whenever he has to control any sort of mechanized vehicle. He improves later, at least to the point of not crashing as often.
* TheDulcineaEffect: From the moment he meets Ren, he immediately wants to dedicate himself to protecting her and helping her journey to Edel Garden. This is because he has never interacted with girls before and thinks it's his duty as a man to take care of cute girls like Ren.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: His crush on Ren isn't subtle at all. His friends had noticed long before he admitted it.
* HappilyAdopted: He was found and adopted by the Boss of the Red Lynx sky pirates, which he greatly appreciates.
* HasAType: He prefers docile and gentle girls who need his protection like Ren.
* TheHero: He's the protagonist and main hero of the series.
* HotBlooded: Particularly when it comes to protecting Ren, he can get heated up.
* TheIllegal: He's forced to become an illegal immigrant after the group travels to another continent and Cou is the only one who doesn't have an ID.
* InSeriesNickname: His name is Coud, but gets called "Cou" for short.
* LoveAtFirstSight: The moment he first sees Ren, Cou thinks she's very cute and immediately wants to protect her.
* LoveConfessor:
** In Chapter 62, Cou admits to Cisqua, Rowen and Kuea that he is in love with Ren. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt None of them is surprised.]]
** In Episode 20 of the anime, Viro makes him tell her he is in love with Ren so she can have some closure on her unrequited love for him. Unbeknownst to both of them, Ren was hiding nearby to hear it.
* MagicContractRomance: Ren chooses him as her Pledger so she transforms into a weapon for him to fight with. Cou always thinks of Ren as a normal girl instead of a weapon and this leads to them falling in love.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Since Edel Raids have a longer lifespan than humans, Ren will surely outlive him.
* NiceGuy: He's a good and kind-hearted guy always ready to help those in need.
* ParentalAbandonment: He never knew his parents.
* RaisedByDudes: Since he was raised in a male-only environment with his sky pirate gang, Cou is often embarrassed and naive when it comes to dealing with girls.
* RedIsHeroic: He's TheHero and the clothes he wears are primarily red.
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the emotional and loud Red Oni to Ren's {{emotionless|girl}} and quiet Blue Oni. Even his clothes are red to contrast Ren's blue hair.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Manly Man to Rowen's Sensitive Guy. While not exactly macho, being raised by pirates has made Cou lacking in delicacy and social awareness while Rowen is more polite and well-adjusted.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He gets flustered and denies it when he's asked if Ren is his girlfriend, even though he clearly wants that to be true.
* ShonenHair: He has the spiky hair typical of a shonen lead.
* SkyPirate: He was raised as a member of a pirate crew that travels through the sky with airships instead of the ocean.
* StreetUrchin: Before he was taken in by the Red Lynx, he was an orphan living on the streets and needed to steal food in order to survive.
* UncertainDoom: In the final chapter of the manga, [[spoiler:Cou disappears after he and Ren fail to escape Edel Garden before it collapses. Later on, Cisqua receives a video from Vargret that shows what appears to be Cou wielding Ren.]]

->Voiced by: Creator/HoukoKuwashima [Drama CD], Creator/MikakoTakahashi [Anime] (Japanese), Brenna O'Brien (English)

An Edel Raid found by Cou in a coffin that was picked up as loot in a raid of the Red Lynx sky pirates. Ren is one of the Seven Glittering Jewels (or Shichikouhouju), an Edel Raid line said to be the strongest. She and Cou become partners after she reacts to him. Her goal is to go to the Edel Garden. She recharges her powers by sleeping, which happens fairly often. Her elemental gelade is on her hair above her forehead. Her elemental power is wind. Her weapon form is a giant sword on Cou's right arm.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: The Edel Raids of her hometown ostracized her for being a Shichikouhouju, which they viewed as an ill omen because of how many people seek her power. The children followed the example of their parents and [[KidsAreCruel bullied Ren mercilessly]]. The only one who treated her kindly was her CoolBigSis Cia.
* BeautifulDreamer: When Cou finds her in a coffin, the first thing he does is to think how cute her sleeping face is (although he initially mistook her for a doll).
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe:
** She chooses Cou as her Pledger because he was the first human she ever met who treated her with kindness instead of seeking to use or seal her.
** When she was a child, she grew attached to Cia because she was the only Edel Raid in their village who treated Ren kindly regardless of her status as a Shichikouhouju.
* BewareTheQuietOnes: Because of how demure and silent she normally is, seeing her going into a RoaringRampageOfRevenge after [[spoiler:she's forced to kill Cia]] is scary.
* {{BFS}}: Her weapon form is a giant sword.
* BlowYouAway: As an Edel Raid with wind attribute, she commands the element of wind, both offensively and defensively.
* BrutalHonesty: She has a habit of telling people whatever she thinks of them very bluntly.
* BulliedIntoDepression: When she was a child, being bullied by other young Edel Raids made Ren very depressed and lonely, causing her to hate and hurt herself until Cia motivated her to stand up to her bullies.
* BullyMagnet: In her childhood shown in the manga, Ren was a victim of severe bullying from other young Edel Raids at her hometown because they believed her being a Shichikouhouju would bring misfortune to the village.
* ClingyJealousGirl: In the anime, she gives Cou the cold shoulder when she sees him getting along with Viro.
* TheComicallySerious: She keeps her deadpan expression even in the most comical and absurd situations.
* DamselInDistress: She's frequently rendered helpless and/or kidnapped and needs Cou to rescue her.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She starts as an EmotionlessGirl who hates Cou because he's a human, but she warms up to him as she falls in love with him.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: She can't stand the taste of sweet food.
* DrearyHalfLiddedEyes: Ren always has a half-lidded expression because of her aloof personality as well as the use of her powers making her constantly sleepy.
* ElementalBarrier: She's able to create a wind barrier to defend Cou and deflect enemy attacks.
* ElementalEyeColors: She's a wind-type Edel Raid and has [[WindIsGreen green]] eyes.
* EmotionlessGirl: At the start of the series, she's extremely cold and doesn't display any strong emotion which makes her come off as mysterious and unsettling. She later starts to show more emotions thanks to Cou.
* EquippableAlly: She's an Edel Raid, girls who can bind their soul with their Pledger and turn into a weapon.
* FirstGirlWins: From the moment she meets Cou in the first chapter/episode, them eventually becoming the OfficialCouple is set in stone.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: She spent 500 years in a forced slumber. She doesn't know about many things of the modern world, such as airships.
* FriendlessBackground: In her backstory from the manga, Ren wasn't able to make friends in her hometown because most Edel Raids living there saw her presence as a bad omen because she's a Shichikouhouju. Cia was her OnlyFriend, until Cia left the village to go to Edel Garden with Keith.
* GreenEyedEpiphany: In the anime, she comes to realize her feelings for Cou when she starts feeling jealous of Viro's romantic advances towards him.
* InTheHood: When she was a child, she wore a hood over her head to hide her elemental gelade until Cia gave her a hair ribbon because it was cuter.
* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: Ren eventually comes to feel very guilty over how many times Cou has nearly gotten hurt and almost killed because of being her Pledger. It even goes to the point she wants to break their contract so Cou can be safe.
* ItWasAGift: Ren treasures her hair ribbon because it was a gift from her CoolBigSis Cia.
* KidsHateVegetables: When she was a child, her caretaker Griina tried to force her to eat vegetables by cooking nothing but carrots and onions every day. Ren still hates carrots and onions to this day, although she hates sweets even more.
* KillTheOnesYouLove: Towards the end of the manga, [[spoiler:Ren and Cou have to kill Cia, Ren's dear older sister figure, who was driven mad by the experiments and abuse of her human husband Keith. This almost pushes Ren over the DespairEventHorizon until Cou talks sense into her.]]
* LastOfHerKind: She's the last direct descendant of the Metherlence bloodline and the last known Shichikouhouju.
* LightEmUp: She can cast Isolate Luminous, a technique that uses light to blind the enemy.
* TheLoad: Her sole function in the team is turning into Cou's weapon, but she can't fight on her own, constantly needs to be protected by her teammates and Cou often has to carry her on his back because transforming exhausts her energy.
* LoveInformant: When she was a child, she casually told Keith that Cia liked him and didn't understand why Cia was so embarrassed about it.
* MacGuffinSuperPerson: Her status as the Shichikouhouju makes her a valuable weapon sought after by many.
* MagicContractRomance: Ren is part of a race of magical girls with the ability to turn into weapons. She falls in love with Cou, the Pledger who wields her.
* MagicalGirlfriend: A beautiful young girl who can turn into a legendary weapon and was waken up from her long sleep by Cou. She then changes his life forever by forming a contract with him and has him accompany her in her journey to the Edel Garden.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: Ren will surely outlive Cou because of her longer lifespan as an Edel Raid.
* MosesInTheBulrushes: A man brought her to the Arc Voure village of Edel Raids when she was a baby and Griina raised her at the man's dying request.
* MysticalWaif: She's a Shichikouhouju, one of the most powerful and legendary Edel Raids. Of course this means that everyone wants their hands on her. She's frequently rendered helpless and constantly protected by the main character. Personality-wise, she fits the mysterious and distant part.
* NeverBareheaded: Ren wears a ribbon around her head which she very rarely takes off, not even when taking a bath.
* NeverGotToSayGoodbye: When she was a child, she got into an argument with her caretaker Griina and ran away from their home. Ren doesn't meet Griina again until she's giving out her last breath. Afterwards, Ren admits to Cou that she would have liked to apologize to Griina and make up with her.
* OddNameNormalNickname: She asks to be called Ren, which is short for Reverie.
* AnOddPlaceToSleep: When she gets tired, she falls asleep on Cou's back or anywhere she drops even in the middle of a ''snowstorm''.
* PhlebotinumGirl: Female love interest with non-human origins and special powers that make other characters seek to possess her, which initially depresses her and makes her detest humans. She's also physically frail and frequently weakened by the use of her abilities.
* PluckyGirl: Despite being so quiet and passive at first glance, Ren is surprisingly brave and strong-willed about her goal to reach Edel Garden.
* {{Protectorate}}: Coud is determined to protect Ren, no matter what it takes.
* TheQuietOne: She isn't the most talkative person around.
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the {{emotionless|girl}} and quiet Blue Oni to Cou's emotional and loud Red Oni. She even has blue hair to contrast Cou's red clothes.
* ReiAyanamiExpy: Ren is a blue-haired and pale-skinned EmotionlessGirl who isn't really human, serves as the love interest of the protagonist and possesses very rare powers. As expected of the archetype, she eventually reveals a SugarAndIcePersonality as she opens up to the protagonist. Even her InSeriesNickname Ren sounds similar to Rei.
* RipVanWinkle: She was put in a deep slumber 500 years prior to the start of the series. She woke up when Cou opened the coffin she was sleeping in.
* SamaritanRelationshipStarter: She at first hates Cou as she does with any other human, but after he defends her when Cisqua tries to buy her from the pirates and then protects her from some kidnappers, she begins to think he's not a bad person and reacts to him.
* SealedGoodInACan: Because of her immense power, she was sealed inside a coffin for 500 years until Cou unintentionally released her.
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: Demure and quiet, as expected from a blue-haired girl.
* SignificantWardrobeShift: At the end of the anime, Ren changes her iconic dark blue dress for a top and skirt of brighter colors. It symbolizes the changes in her personality and life, having become Cou's girlfriend and a member of the Red Lynx sky pirates.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Cou wins Ren's heart because he's a kind-hearted and protective guy who truly cares about her as a person, not a mere weapon.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: Justified. She recharges her powers by sleeping, so she spends most of her time nodding off.
* TheStoic: She has the same cold, melancholic look in her face nearly all the time.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Ren is very kind-hearted and gentle girl, but she's also very cold and reserved to anyone she has just met because of her distrust towards humans. It's hard for her to show her warmer side to anyone but Cou.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: The Wife. Ren is the most gentle, reserved and sensible of the main female trio.
* ThroughHisStomach: She learns to bake cookies even though she hates sweet food because she wants Cou to eat them.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Starts out as an EmotionlessGirl, but begins to show more emotion as the series goes on. By the end of the anime, she's much more expressive and smiles more.
* TownGirls: The Femme. Ren is the most feminine, well-dressed and frail of the three main girls.
* TragicBigot: Ren initially hates and distrusts humans except for Cou because the first humans she ever saw tried to kidnap her and other Edel Raids from her village.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her hair, head ribbon and clothes are all blue. She's also the most delicate and traditionally feminine girl in the main cast.
* UncertainDoom: In the final chapter of the manga, [[spoiler:Ren apparently falls to her death after confessing her love for Cou and letting go of his hand. Some time later, Vargret sends Cisqua a video that implies Ren is still alive and together with Cou.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:Despite Griina giving her a warning, Ren goes to Edel Garden to meet with her big sister figure Cia who went to live there with her human husband. Ren didn't know Cia was turned into a murderously insane LivingWeapon by the experiments of her husband. When Ren finds Cia in her prison and awakes her from her sleep, Cia goes into a murder spree and also tries to kill Ren and Cou to absorb their power. Cou and Ren are forced to kill Cia to put an end to her rampage.]]

[[folder:Cisqua]]
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cisqua.png]]

->Voiced by: Creator/IkueOtani [Drama CD], Creator/NanaMizuki [Anime] (Japanese), Alexandra Carter (English)

The energetic and upbeat leader of one of Arc Aile's Edel Raid Complete Protection Association squads consisting of Rowen and Kuea. She is honest and passionate about her work, but only because of her desire to be promoted and her love for money. She is not an Edel Raid Pledger, but she is well versed in martial arts and gunmanship.
----
* ActionGirl: She's the only girl in the main group who isn't an Edel Raid, but this also makes her the strongest one since she wields weapons instead of turning into one. Even taking her on in a hand-to-hand combat is a bad idea.
* ACupAngst: She gets ''pissed'' if someone makes fun of her small cup size.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: She takes great offense when Cou and Lonble say seeing her undressed makes no difference to them.
* BadassAdorable: She looks like a cute young girl, yet she can kick your ass with her firearms and missiles.
* BadassNormal: She's an ordinary human girl without an Edel Raid partner. It's still a terrible idea to mess with her because an Edel Raid could be ''less'' destructive than her guns and missiles.
* TheBigGirl: Despite her small size and not being a Pledger, Cisqua is the powerhouse of the main group. Her menacing weapons and formidable physical strength allow her to evenly fight Edel Raid wielders without issue.
* BoyishShortHair: Short hair for a tomboyish and destructive gunwoman.
* CuteAndPsycho: She's affable and smiling adorably most of the time, but she also flies into a crazy, violent rage at the drop of a hat.
* {{Expy}}: Her design was inspired by BB Hood from ''VideoGame/{{Darkstalkers}}'', a character the author helped design.
* FieryRedhead: She has auburn hair and the most explosive temper out of anyone in the series.
* TheGunslinger: In battle, she primarily uses firearms.
* {{Hammerspace}}: She carries a lot of weapons under her cape. The author implies that Cisqua has access to possibly infinite amount of space in her cape and hat.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Cisqua tries to mug innocent people, steals, gambles and blasts people away with firearms, all which is played for comedy.
* HotBlooded: She's the one to get the most heated up in a fight.
* HypocriticalHumor: A lot of her comedic moments are her chastising immoral actions like stealing, mugging and gambling before or after she eagerly engages in those exact activities herself.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's very selfish, short-tempered, and vicious, but also a reliable and protective friend to her companions.
* TheLancer: Her amoral, self-serving and overly violent personality directly contrasts TheHero Cou.
* LittleMissBadass: She's short, but she's the strongest non-Pledger fighter around.
* MoneyFetish: There's nothing that brings her more joy than money.
* MoreDakka: She's armed with tons of artillery, including missile launchers and machine guns, and usually relies on ridiculous rapid-fire to fight.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She's small and slim, yet she can beat the crap out of opponents much bigger than her.
* TheNapoleon: She's the shortest member of the team and the most prone to engage in comedic violence.
* OlderThanSheLooks: She's sixteen, but looks around twelve.
* PocketRocketLauncher: She has, [[HyperspaceArsenal among a profusion of other weapons hidden under her skirt,]] a miniature rocket rack, mounted, funnily enough, at about pocket-height on her thighs.
* ReluctantFanserviceGirl: She's mortified when Cou accidentally falls over her in the hot springs and when she ends up in her underwear because of ClothingDamage in the fight against Lonble. She still gets pissed by the guys showing zero interest in her body.
* SignatureHeadgear: She wears an iconic hat that looks like the top of a mushroom.
* SmallGirlBigGun: She wields a machinegun that is half the size of her body.
* TheTeamNormal: She's the only member of the team who isn't a Pledger or an Edel Raid.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: The Child. Cisqua is the shortest, most energetic and temperamental of the main female trio.
* TokenMiniMoe: She's short and flat-chested, making her the youngest-looking member of the main group.
* TownGirls: The Butch. Cisqua is brash, fierce, the only of the three main girls skilled at hand-to-hand combat, and has a tomboyish appearance overall.
* TriggerHappy: She's quick to pull out her machine guns at the slightest provocation.
* WaifFu: She's a strong martial artist for a petite girl. She's capable of winning a hand-to-hand combat against a fully-grown man who is a professional Edel Raid hunter.
* WalkingArmory: Underneath her robes and hat, she keeps an arsenal of firearms, missiles, knives, and other weapons she uses to complete her missions.

[[folder:Rowen]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rowen_eg.png]]

->Voiced by: Creator/ShowtaroMorikubo [Drama CD], Creator/YujiUeda [Anime] (Japanese), Philip Pacaud (English)

A guardian of Arc Aile, and is occasionally tasked to assist with his senior in rank, Cisqua.
----
* TheAce: He's well-skilled in multiple areas, whether it is cooking or fighting, and seems to excel at anything he does, making it seem as if he was perfect.
* ButtMonkey: He frequently falls victim of Cisqua's and Kuea's antics and he's always the one who must work to earn money for the team.
* DualWielding: Kuea transforms into a pair of double blades that Rowen wields in each hand.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He's blond and probably the nicest guy in the group.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He's an attractive young man with long hair tied back in a long ponytail.
* MyGreatestFailure: Despite his attempts to help Viro, he couldn't change her self-loathing and had to see her being disposed of by Gladius after her defeat. This almost makes Rowen quit Arc Aile, but Kuea instead convinces him to prevent other girls to suffer the same fate as Viro and take revenge for her death against Orga Night.
* NiceGuy: He's the friendliest and most polite guy in the main group.
* OnlySaneMan: He's the most normal and well-adjusted member of the team.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Kuea. They're partners, form a good team together and they're so close it's easy to mistake them for a couple, but there is no romantic attraction between them.
* RedOniBlueOni: The meek Blue Oni to Kuea's excitable Red Oni.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Sensitive Guy to Cou's Manly Man. Rowen is more polite, calm and socially adjusted than Cou who was raised by pirates.
* TheSmartGuy: Out of the group, Rowen is the only one who doesn't act rashly and tries to be a voice of reason to his more impulsive friends.
* SupremeChef: He's a very good cook and his teammates love his meals.
* TeamChef: He cooks for the group when travelling.
* TheWorfEffect: Vargret and even Kuea mock how Rowen lost every single of his battles in the second half of the manga. At least he does win his rematch against Grayarts in the final arc.

->Voiced by: Creator/AkemiOkamura [Drama CD], Naoko Suzuki [Anime] (Japanese), France Perras (English)

A first class Edel Raid from Arc Aile and Rowen's partner. Her garnet red elemental gelade are on the back of both her hands which she covers with arm length gloves. When Kuea gets hungry - which seems to be often - she can't react, so she eats enormous amounts of food at a time.
----
* AdaptationalModesty: Her skirt isn't see-through in the anime.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: She has a much darker skin tone than the other characters, but there's no indication to her ethnicity.
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: She's the MsFanservice of the main group, always wearing a revealing outfit with a crop top that shows off her midriff.
* BigEater: She spends most of her time eating. Justified in that she recharges her power by eating.
* BloodKnight: She loves to battle and often jumps into fights hastily.
* ChainedByFashion: Her top includes a chain that keeps her skirt in place and she also wears chains in her hair as if they were ribbons.
* ConspicuousGloves: She wears a pair of arm-length gloves to cover her elemental gelade. She never takes them off even when taking a bath.
* CoolBigSis: She takes the role of a laidback older sister to the team. She usually likes to joke around with them, but she can occasionally act mature and give very good guidance.
* EquippableAlly: She takes the weapon form of double blades that Rowen wields on each hand and six chained sickles on his back which can detach and attack opponents from a distance.
* TheMourningAfter: In the anime, it's implied she had a Pledger whom she was in love with, but he unfortunately died. Kuea seems to have decided to avoid romance because of this and admits to Cou the reason why she chose Rowen as her partner was because he's someone she will never fall in love with.
* MsFanservice: She's the woman with the sexiest figure and most revealing clothes in the main group.
* ObsessedWithFood: When she isn't transformed, she rarely thinks about anything but eating food.
* PlatonicLifePartners: With Rowen. They're very close, but they only see each other as partners and good friends.
* PluckyComicRelief: Her BigEater antics make her by far the most comical character of the main group.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. She has red eyes, is always eager for a fight and her weapon is dangerous, but she's a good person overall.
* RedOniBlueOni: The excitable Red Oni to Rowen's meek Blue Oni.
* SomeCallMeTim: She thinks her full name Kullweet is too long and prefers to be called "Kuea".
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her outfit consists of a see-through skirt, a black leather G-string, and a curdoroy mini-tanktop, as well as a pair of long black gloves and boots. Her reasoning is that mobility is all-important, even trumping protection.
* ThongOfShielding: Her outfit includes a high-cut thong.
* TheThreeFacesOfEve: The Seductress. Kuea is the most mature-looking and skimpily dressed of the main female trio.
* TownGirls: The Neither. Kuea has a more feminine style than the tomboyish Cisqua, but her laidback and gluttonous personality don't make her ladylike as the demure Ren.

Head of all the guardians of Arc Aile.
----
* AloofLeaderAffableSubordinate: Falk is a stern and inflexible leader to the guardians, while his second-in-command Cruz is much more approachable and reasonable.
* ByTheBookCop: He has a strict and cold attitude and has a very by-the-books mentality.
* PerpetualFrowner: He always has a frown on his face.

* AdaptationDyeJob: The cloth of the lower part of her dress is white with green in the manga while the anime made it dark blue.
* AdaptationalHeroism: In the manga, Viro betrays the group and attempts to kill Rowen despite him trying to reach out to her. She's defeated by Rowen and her boss disposes of her for her failure. In the anime, on the other hand, she realizes she can't bring herself to kill Cou and ends up dying protecting him from Gladius.
* AdaptationalLateAppearance: In the manga, she appears in the arc of the Tigres sisters, but she's introduced much later in the anime.
* AdaptationalNiceGirl: In the manga, Viro is a BitchInSheepsClothing who is cold and ruthless, not having any remorse in betraying the main group. In the anime, her BespectacledCutie personality is actually a part of her true self, and she genuinely bonds with the main group while traveling with them, even falling in love with Cou and dying to protect him.
* AdaptationalSuperpowerChange: In the manga, Viro can only transform a single armored arm because she's an artificial Edel Raid. In the anime, however, her body can transform into a weapon when she reacts with Cou.
* ArtificialHuman: She's an artificially created Edel Raid.
* BecomingTheMask:
** {{Subverted|Trope}} in the manga. She was touched by the group's kindness towards her and did enjoy traveling with them, but she still betrays them because she doesn't want her boss to dispose of her like garbage.
** Played straight in the anime. When the time comes for her to betray the group, she can't go through with assassinating Cou and spares him despite knowing very well she will get killed for it.
* BespectacledCutie: Subverted. She seems to be a friendly and bubbly girl, but it's just an act to gain the trust of Cou's group. She doesn't even actually need glasses and only wears them to appear more harmless.
* BetaTestBaddie: She's part of a series of imperfect artificial Edel Raids that can only transform a part of their body, which is the source of one big inferiority complex for her. She thinks of herself as useless garbage just because she isn't a real Edel Raid and is terrified of being disposed as a failure by her boss.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She puts up the act of a friendly and slightly ditzy BespectacledCutie to earn the main group's trust. She's in fact a ruthless assassin and her true personality is very sour and hateful.
* BrokenBird: Whenever she drops the cheerful girl act, her expressions are very sad and she gives melancholic speeches about "defective" stuff like herself being meant to be thrown away like garbage.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: She has blue hair and matching blue eyes.
* CuteClumsyGirl: In the anime, she's very clumsy and repeatedly gets into accidents with Cou when trying to be of help to him.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight:
** In the manga, Rowen holds her in his arms when her stone is shattered and her body disintegrates.
** In the anime, Cou holds her in her final moments.
* DisappearsIntoLight: In the anime, her body turns into motes of light after she's killed.
* FanOfUnderdog: She acts as a fangirl for Cou, who is seen as far from the coolest guy by most people. In the manga, it's an act, but her admiration and later love are genuine in the anime.
* EquippableAlly: In the anime, she's able to transform into a full weapon to allow Cou to wield her.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: When she drops her cover, she discards her modest white dress for a dark-colored, skimpy one.
* FreakinessShame: In the anime, Viro is ashamed of being a Sting Raid and hides her stone because she thinks it isn't pretty like an Edel Raid's elemental gelade. Ren still compliments her stone, calling it pretty.
* FreudianExcuseIsNoExcuse: Viro hates Edel Raids because she's an inferior imitation of them and she's desperate to accomplish her missions without fail because her boss will dispose of her if she fails him. Because of this, she betrays the group, poisons Ren and nearly kills Rowen while he's honestly trying to reach out to her. While her situation is harsh, Kuea points out Viro in the end is nothing more than a selfish, envious girl playing the role of a tragic heroine out of self-pity.
* GirlishPigtails: She ties her hair into twin braids when she's undercover so she keep up her harmless cute girl facade.
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: She has TaremeEyes when she's pretending to be a BespectacledCutie and they change to TsurimeEyes when she drops the act and reveals herself as the ruthless assassin she really is.
* HairIntakes: Her hair has a pair of what look like cat ears.
* HeroicSacrifice: In the anime, she sacrifices herself saving Cou from an attack by Gladius.
* HopelessSuitor: She falls in love with Cou in the anime. Too bad he only has eyes for Ren.
* InLoveWithTheMark: In the anime, she joins the group only to get near Coud and murder him, until she realizes that she fell in love with him.
* LettingHerHairDown: {{Inverted|Trope}}. She undoes the GirlishPigtails when she reveals her true colors and undergoes an EvilCostumeSwitch.
* TheLostLenore: In the manga, Rowen developed a crush on her and tried his best to save her, but ultimately could do nothing but watch Viro being disposed of. Rowen's failure to save Viro becomes his main motivation for the rest of the series.
* LoveRedeems:
** Subverted in the manga. Rowen feels attracted to her and tries to get her to turn around through compassion. Unfortunately, he realizes nothing he does will get through Viro and he has no choice but to fight her.
** Played straight in the anime. She's touched by Cou's kindness and falls in love with him, which is what ultimately keeps her from killing him.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: In sharp contrast to the manga, Viro is portrayed this way in the anime. She was manipulated by Chaos Choir and given the fake promise that she would be turned into a true Edel Raid if she infiltrated Cou's group. Even then, she doesn't actually do anything evil to anyone, and reacts with Cou to protect him and Ren multiple times. Even when she's ordered to kill Cou, she can't bring herself to go through with it. Sadly, Chaos Choir decide to dispose of her once they realize she isn't going to betray Cou.
* TheMole: She joins the group, but is later revealed to be a spy for the opposing group who has their eyes on Ren.
* NavelDeepNeckline: After her EvilCostumeSwitch, she wears a top that is completely open and only covers a portion of her breasts.
* PoisonousPerson: Her saliva is poisonous to Edel Raids, which she uses against Ren.
* PurelyAestheticGlasses: She wears glasses as part of her cutesy BespectacledCutie act. After she reveals her true colors, she discards the glasses.
* RaceNameBasis: Virzoeve Eclairouer, or Viro for short, is a term for all artificial Edel Raids.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: After going through BecomingTheMask and deciding to not betray Cou's group, she sacrifices herself to save Cou. This only happens in the anime.
* ReducedToDust: In the manga, she turns to dust after her core stone is broken.
* TheRightHandOfDoom: As an Edel Raid imitation, she can manifest a huge armored right arm.
* RomanticFakeRealTurn: She fakes having a crush on Cou to infiltrate his group. In the anime, she falls in love with Cou for real and this plays a big part in her pulling a HeelFaceTurn.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Her glasses turn opaque during the moments she breaks out of her facade and her true self as an assassin emerges.
* SixthRangerTraitor: She joins Cou's team as a cover agent with the intention of betraying them.
* SupremeChef: In the anime, she turns out to be a very good cook and the main group enjoys her meals a lot.
* TattooedCrook: She has an evil-looking tattoo in her abdomen.
* {{Tykebomb}}: She was created to be used as a disposable tool for Orga Night and they indoctrinated her to believe she could become a real Edel Raid instead of a worthless imitation if she served them well.

* PetTheDog: She's a member of a villainous organization, but she loves her pet cat.
* RightHandCat: She's a villainess and keeps a cat as a pet.

An Edel Raid from Arc Vuore, the village where Ren grew up. She left the village and went to Edel Garden when she married a human named Keith Fergen. Meeting her again is the reason why Ren wants to go to Edel Garden. Unfortunately, Ren discovers Cia is now a shell of her former self, having been transformed into a deadly and insane weapon.
----
* AxCrazy: When Ren finds her in Edel Garden, Cia has become completely insane, unstable and homicidal.
* BarefootLoon: When she shows up in the present, she's barefoot and clearly has many screws loose.
* BecameTheirOwnAntithesis: Cia was a compassionate and idealistic woman who believed Edel Raids shouldn't be treated like tools and valued life above anything else. Keith using her as a test subject and transforming her into a deadly weapon changed her completely. When Ren meets her again, Cia sees herself as nothing but a tool who only exists to kill people for Keith's sake and won't hesitate to drain the life of anyone who stands in her way to gain more power.
* BodyHorror: As a result of the experiments that evolved her GreenThumb powers, Cia has tree roots growing from her body. Later, one of her arms transforms into deformed tree roots.

By the time Ren finally finds her, the once sweet and gentle Cia is now broken, insane, and murderous.

* TheDefroster: Ren used to be even colder and avoided people at her village because of the bullying she received from other children. She pushed Cia away whenever the latter tried to be nice to her, but Cia slowly made Ren get comfortable around her by making clear she didn't care Ren was a Shichikouhouju and only wanted to be her friend.
* DespairEventHorizon: She completely snapped after [[spoiler:she killed her abusive husband]].

* LifeDrinker: She can drain others' life force by killing them with her root tentacles and use them to heal herself.
* LovecraftianSuperpower: After being experimented on, she can grow tree roots from her body and use them as weapons to kill people and absorb their life force.

* LoveMartyr: Because she wanted to be of help to her husband, she agreed to be his guinea pig and endured painful experiments. Despite this, she still loves him and wants to become a better weapon to please him.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: As an Edel Garden, Cia has a much longer lifespan than her human husband. By the present day, her husband is long dead [[spoiler:because she killed him]] and she doesn't look any older than when she married him 500 years ago.
* MurderMakesYouCrazy: She went AxCrazy out of sheer horror and despair after she killed [[spoiler:her husband who tried to use their unborn child for his experiments.]]
* TheOphelia: After being driven mad by Keith's death, Cia is a psychotic and delusional lunatic with very long messy hair and walks around barefoot as she looks for her dead husband.
* PowerParasite: She can steal the abilities of the people she absorbs.
* PreInsanityReveal: {{Inverted|Trope}}. Cia is first introduced in Ren's flashback where she's shown as a pure-hearted young woman who was a kind older sister figure to Ren. When Ren meets her again in the present, Cia has become an AxCrazy psycho attempting to absorb anything and anyone in her path. Turns out Cia's mind broke from the cruel experiments she was subjected to in Edel Garden [[spoiler:which only ended when she killed her MadScientist husband]].
* PsychoPink: She was originally a RoseHairedSweetie, but by the time Ren reunites with her, Cia has been so broken that she turned into an insane killing machine.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: When she and Ren meet again, Cia still looks as young as she did 500 years ago.

* RescueRomance: She fell in love with Keith when he saved her from evil men who tried to sexually assault her.
* RoseHairedSweetie: She was a very sweet and innocent young woman and her hair happened to be pink. She isn't a sweetie after her ordeal with her MadScientist husband, though.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She fell in love with Keith because he seemed to be a good-hearted and heroic man who was trying his best to make humans and Edel Raids to get along. She was heartbroken by how cruel he became in his pursuit to make Edel Garden a powerful nation.
* SlasherSmile: She's prone to making bloodthirsty smiles after becoming insane.
* StrawberryShorthand: She liked to grow strawberries and used them to bake pastries.
* SweetBaker: She loved to bake pastries that were as sweet as her personality.
* TouchOfDeath: She has the ability to kill and absorb those who come into contact with her tree roots.
* TragicMonster: Keith's experiments transformed Cia from a normal and pacifistic Edel Raid to a half-plant mutant monster, causing her to lose her sanity after Keith died. In the present, all she seeks to do is kill humans and Edel Raids, thinking that Keith will praise her for it. [[spoiler:Cou and Ren have to kill her to put her out of her misery.]]
* WideEyedIdealist: She thought it was ridiculous for the Edel Raids of the village to reject Ren for being a Shichikouhouju. She also firmly believed Keith would create a place where humans and Edel Raids could coexist in peace. It didn't end well for her.

The man who created Edel Garden and the foundation of Orga Night. He visited the Arc Vuore Village 500 years ago, married Cia and took her to Edel Garden.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: Flashbacks leave it up to interpretation whether Keith was a WellIntentionedExtremist who became a ReluctantMadScientist to create a paradise for Edel Raids or a ManipulativeBastard who only pretended to be kind to manipulate Cia and other Edel Raids into becoming his guinea pigs.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: He was said to be human. However, he was apparently 215 years old when he died, which Cou notices shouldn't be possible for a normal human.
* BaitTheDog: When Cia told him she was pregnant with his child, Keith hugged her and for a moment acted like his former kind self... Only to say he was happy to get a "valuable test subject" with a SlasherSmile. This apparently was what broke Cia [[spoiler:and drove her to kill Keith]].
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He acted like a kindhearted man and claimed he wanted to create a paradise for Edel Raids and humans. In reality, he only wanted to use Edel Raids for experiments and manipulated Cia to transform her into the ultimate weapon.
* BrokenPedestal: To Cia. She loved him deeply and believed he would create a paradise where humans and Edel Raids were happy. When Keith started using Edel Raids for horrifying experiments, Cia still wanted to help him despite feeling disturbed by his actions. [[spoiler:That was until Keith wanted to use their unborn child for his experiments and Cia killed him in self-defense. She was horrified by what she did and went insane.]]
* GuineaPigFamily: He used his own wife for inhuman experiments. When she told him she was pregnant, he immediately planned to use their child as a test subject as well.
* InterspeciesRomance: He married Cia, an Edel Raid.
* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler:Cia murdered him when he tried to vivisect her to remove and experiment on their unborn child, driving her to defend herself with the powers he gave her through his experiments.]]
* MadScientist: He used Edel Raids, including his wife, for horribly cruel experiments to create Edel Garden.
* PosthumousCharacter: He has been dead for 500 years when the story starts.
* SharedUnusualTrait: He had heterochromia like some members of Orga Night such as Alma, Bienenritter and Orha. It's mentioned he founded the organization that became Orga Night, but the connection involving the heterochromia is unknown.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: He only appears in flashbacks during the final arc of the manga, but he created Edel Garden and the group that later became Orga Night. Him taking Cia to Edel Garden is the reason why Ren wants to go there.
