-> Voiced by: Creator/TakayaKuroda (JP), Creator/PatrickSeitz (EN)

A black, Russian sushi hawker. Being an immigrant, his Japanese isn't very good and his [[ScaryBlackMan physical appearance]] frightens some people. Despite this, he's a kind and intelligent man who only wants customers to visit the restaurant.

Affiliated with the Dollars.
----
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:He isn't very pleased with what he did back in his home country and just wants to live a peaceful life in Ikebukuro.]]
* AnimeAccentAbsence: Averted, but in the wrong way. His accent [[MisplacedAccent sounds like an English speaker's, not a Russian's]].
* BadassPacifist: Aside from one memorable incident in which he gave Izaya a black eye, he's one of the most non-violent people in the entire show.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:Was in the KGB until the Soviet Union fell, after which he (along with Dennis, the future owner of the Russian Sushi shop he now works at) took a job under Russian weapons dealer Drakon. What exactly he's done under Drakon's orders is vague, but it obviously wasn't good.]]
* EloquentInMyNativeTongue: He's deep, eloquent, witty and philosophical (as evident from his inner monologues), but it's hardly visible behind his intimidating appearance and broken Japanese.
* FaceOfAThug: Simon is friendly as all hell, but the fact that he's both a ScaryBlackMan and a HuskyRusskie tends to scare people away.
* FamousNamedForeigner: Brezhnev, while not terribly rare, is still a rather uncommon surname in Russia, and will immediately invoke the late Leonid Brezhnev and TheSeventies.
* FormerRegimePersonnel: [[spoiler:He and Dennis were former KGB, and true to stereotype, transitioned from that into involvement with TheMafiya.]]
* FunnyForeigner: A black Russian with broken Japanese is comical if you're not scared of him. It's heavily implied he is just be playing this for what it's worth.
* GentleGiant: He towers over most Japanese people and intimidates them. It must be the power of the Blog/GaijinSmash.
* HiddenDepths: He may look like a large, dumb guy, but he really hides years of deadly skills back in his home country.
* HuskyRusskie: His large stature is part of why he has trouble getting customers.
* ItsRainingMen: He leaps down from the seventh floor of an apartment building and, of course, lands safely.
* IWasJustPassingThrough: He says that the aforementioned leaping off the building was only because he was making a delivery to a client on the top floor when he saw the fight.
* MadeOfIron: Simon is strong and/or skilled enough to almost match Shizuo in a fight, but still walks away worse for wear with some bruises. We don't know if he could actually beat Shizuo if he tried (see MartialPacifist below), but going toe-to-toe with Shizuo for a sustained period of time and not getting seriously injured is very impressive.
* TheMafiya: [[spoiler:Simon and Dennis (now Chief Chef) are former members of such an organization.]]
* MartialPacifist: Simon doesn't even like ''talking'' about violence, and only uses his martial arts skills to either defend himself or break up a fight. [[spoiler:He has, however, killed someone in the past.]]
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: He can throw one hell of a punch if he has to.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He puts up a very friendly front to lure in customers and make them feel at home, but when things go too far, he'll deride the perpetrator in Russian. Also, his Japanese is so bad that some characters wonder if he's secretly a competent speaker.
* RetiredBadass: [[spoiler:Ex-KGB and Spetsnaz before the end of the Cold War.]]
* RunningGag: His apparent inability to bring customers to his shop.
* ScaryBlackMan: Simon's career as a sushi tout seems to suffer as a result because both his size and his skin tone scare the native Japanese.
* SuperStrength: Simon jumps from a building and manages to stop Shizuo's rampage. From the reaction everyone involved give, this evidently happens a lot.
* TastesLikeFriendship: He espouses the belief that the only reason people fight is because they are hungry. Thus, after breaking up a fight he makes the opponents eat together.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler:Punches Izaya in the face and gives him one in Russian. The point of it was [[ManipulativeBastard Simon claims Izaya manipulates people to kill each other but has never done it himself]] and claims higher moral standing for this. He also warns Izaya not to manipulate people to kill each other again, as it feels terrible]].
* TwoferTokenMinority: Black and an immigrant.
* WhamLine: [[spoiler:Starts of his ReasonYouSuckSpeech to Izaya with one.]]
-->'''Simon:''' [[spoiler:Have you ever killed people? I have.]]
* YouNoTakeCandle: Outside of his InnerMonologue, he speaks exclusively in the casual register, overuses the sentence-enders ''yo'' (emphasis) and ''ne'' (seeking confirmation a la ", yes?") and rarely if ever uses any particles, amounting to a Japanese variant of this trope.

* FormerRegimePersonnel: [[spoiler:He and Simon were former KGB, and true to stereotype, transitioned from that into involvement with TheMafiya.]]

[[folder:Kyohei Kadota]]
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyohei_kadota_4486_8457.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:150:The muscle of The Dollars.]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/YuuichiNakamura (JP), Creator/SteveBlum (EN)
->''"If you guys do decide that we're your enemy... if you want a fight, you'll get one."''

Leader of a pretty small-time gang consisting of himself, Erika, Walker, and Saburo. Also works as a tile layer.

Formerly affiliated with the defunct Blue Squares, now affiliated with the Dollars.
----
* AlliterativeName: '''K'''yohei '''K'''adota.
* AntiHero: Despite being a gang leader, none of his actions are villainous, or at least have villainous intentions. In fact, he ''left'' his former gang because they wanted him to do things ForTheEvulz. Despite being part of a gang Kadota is basically TheCape.
* BadassNormal: One of the best, if not ''the'' best fighter in the cast aside from Shizuo, and he's just a normal guy with a van.
%% Putting a trope into a secondary bullet of another trope is against the Examples Indentation rules. Leave BadassNormal at first level, please.
* BeautifulAllAlong: Not that bad-looking without that hat obscuring his eyes. And not [[PerpetualFrowner frowning]].
** It's no wonder Erika and Walker [[LauncherOfAThousandShips ship each other and everyone else with him]].
* BigDamnHeroes: In Episode 24, he and a bunch of his friends infiltrate the Yellow Scarves' hideout and jump in to save Masaomi.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: For Erika, Walker ''and'' Saburo (Albeit to a lesser extent for the latter).
* ColonelBadass: Even though [[spoiler:Mikado]] is the leader of the Dollars, Kadota is the main face of the muscle side of the Dollars.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Kadota and his van gang used to be a part of the Blue Square color gang. Then the Blue Squares [[spoiler:kidnapped Saki, tortured her, and sent a runner to Kadota to ask him if he wanted to join in on the "fun" they were going to have with her]] and... well, Kadota suddenly wasn't a member of Blue Squares anymore. {{Molotov Cocktail}}s were involved.
-->'''Kadota''': And when you wake up, tell that bastard Izumi that I'm done with him! [punches mook in the face]
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: Kadota sometimes forgets that {{Internal Monologue}}s are supposed to be, well, ''internal''.
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: Usually. Though it's {{justified|Trope}} in that he always wears a thick hat and tends to keep his head somewhat low, so it's not like much light would reflect off his eyes.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He once was a member of the Blue Squares, but [[spoiler:hearing that the Blue Squares had kidnapped Saki]] was when he made his limits clear.
* HiddenDepths: He has quite the singing voice, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyM64wkWQLY as demonstrated here]].
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: In-universe, Erika and Walker pair him with everyone they know, including each other.
* TheLeader: The level-headed one in charge of his van gang. He's the only one in that thing with their head on straight.
* MoralityChain: It's thanks to this guy Walker and Erika's sociopathic tendencies tend more towards [[ComedicSociopathy comedic]] as opposed to horrifying. On a related note, he has their UndyingLoyalty and would do ANYTHING for him, which means everyone in Ikebukuro should be really grateful he's a NiceGuy.
* NeighbourhoodFriendlyGangsters: He's functionally the public face of the Dollars, and tries to make sure the group never goes over the line.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Even Kadota has his quirks, and he'll sometimes join in on the goofy antics of his friends.
* OneHourWorkWeek: Works as a tile layer, and like Walker and Erika he has really flexible work hours.
* OnlySaneMan: Arguably one of the few mentally and emotionally well-balanced characters in [[DysfunctionJunction the entire cast]]. This especially stands out in the van gang, which consists of three manic {{Otaku}} - including one YaoiFangirl, somebody who [[TranquilFury will set you on fire if you piss him off]], and another guy who '''[[CargoShip REALLY]]''' [[CargoShip likes his van]]. Oh, and the first two are also {{Torture Technician}}s. Poor Kadota. [[spoiler:When he gets put into a coma by Nasujima, Erika notes that if he doesn't wake up soon, Walker and Togusa will have no one to rein them in. SmashCut to Walker inquiring the Yellow Scarves about the hit-and-run while hiding Molotov cocktails and Togusa threatening to drag whoever ran Kadota over behind his truck until they're just a stain on the floor.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: Considering what [[{{Otaku}} Walker, Erika, and Togusa]] are like, can you really blame him?
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Why he left the Blue Squares.
* StraightMan: To Erika and Walker. And Togusa too, to a lesser extent.
* TeamDad: He's the most mature of his group and the one who keeps the others under control.
* {{Tsundere}}: Walker declares Kyohei one in episode 3.
* TrueCompanions: With Erika, Walker, and Togusa.
* WhenHeSmiles: In the second OP. Amazing what a little upturn can do. Or maybe he's just smirking?

'''Walker is voiced by''': Creator/YuukiKaji (JP), Creator/BrianBeacock (EN)

->'''Erika''': A great man once said that the world is a myth. I think he said it, anyway. Even if he didn't, I'm sure someone else said something similar.\
'''Walker''': A great man once said that the world is symbolic. I think he said it, anyway. Even if he didn't, I'm sure someone else said something similar.

A pair of hardcore {{otaku}}s who hang around with Kyohei and Saburo. There is more to them than meets the eye.

Both affiliates of the Dollars, by proxy of Kadota.
----
[[AC:Both]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}s: They both launch into a rather extensive conversation in episode 20 where they characterize Chief Chef of Russian Sushi as a character in a cooking manga, and invent a backstory involving him serving with the Red Army and fighting TheMafiya. [[spoiler:Which, of course, is [[TheCuckooLanderWasRight distressingly on the mark]].]]
* CommonalityConnection: They're both crazy {{Otaku}}s with a penchant for "manga-based" torture methods. This is probably the reason why they're as close to each other as they are.
* CrackPairing: Not one themselves, but they're certainly not averse to shipping them in-universe.
-->'''Erika''': Which one is better -- Fans/Trolls or Trolls/Fans?\
'''Walker''': Are we assuming that's yaoi or yuri? That's important. Very important!
* CuteAndPsycho: They enjoy manga, anime, hentai, [[BreadEggsMilkSquick torture, and bloodshed]]. Thankfully, Kyohei reigns them in pretty well.
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler:Like Kadota, they both left the Blue Squares.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:Both dropped out of the Blue Squares along with Kadota because they felt that the group went way overboard with beating up a young woman.]]
* {{Expy}}: Walker and Erika have a lot of similarities, both in character and plot facilitation, to their ''Literature/{{Baccano}}'' predecessors Isaac and Miria.
* EyeScream: [[spoiler: They were going to brand the eyeballs of one of the thugs they caught that work for Yagiri pharmacy.]]
* {{Heroic Comedic Sociopath}}s: Both Walker and Erika have very few qualms about doing ''anything'' with their characteristic cheerful nonchalance. They've just figured that being nice is more fun and less trouble.
* LetsGetDangerous: When they decide to get serious, these two can get surprisingly violent.
* MediumAwareness: Both Walker and Erika have said things that suggest they ''know'' they're in a LightNovel.
* MetaGuy: They constantly reference anime, manga, and light novels up to the point that they associate real life happenings with certain tropes.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Subverted. Walker and Erika have vowed to follow Kadota no matter how many people they have to stab, torture, or firebomb. Of course, Kadota never ''asks'' them to do this stuff, and has to veto (most of) their more sociopathic ideas.
* NoodleImplements: "I don't care what you do to him. Just don't use gasoline inside the car like you did that last time."
* ObfuscatingStupidity: They may seem like two otaku, but don't be fooled... they're dangerously efficient.
* OneHourWorkWeek: As it turns out, Walker and Erika ''do'' have jobs -- they're an ice sculptor and a jewelry maker, respectively. They just have really flexible schedules due to being freelance.
* {{Otaku}}: Big anime/manga otakus who don't really distinguish between fiction and reality; in fact, they fit the negative stereotypes of otakus, although they're [[HeroicComedicSociopath still basically "the good guys"]].
* PlatonicLifePartners: Despite how close they are, they never display any romantic interest for each other.
* ShipperOnDeck: Erika's Shizuo/Izaya shipping aside, Walker once wrote Celty/Shinra fanfic. They both ship each other with Kadota.
* SleepCute: After falling asleep next to Masaomi's hospital bed.
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: As demonstrated when both came to the conclusion that [[spoiler: Anri]] was a [[Literature/ShakuganNoShana Flame Haze]] at the exact same time, despite being separated.
* TortureTechnician: They enjoy torturing people for information using methods from manga and novels. Case in point: that guy they wanted to interrogate at the end of episode 6, they were going to [[EyeScream brand his eyeballs with solder]], and can be seen explaining/acting out [[ToThePain how the "procedure" will go]] right in front of him in graphic detail.
* TrueCompanions: Their relationship with Kadota, Togusa and each other.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Kadota, and both have made it clear they would do anything he asked without question.

[[AC:Erika]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's just as happy-go-lucky and friendly as Walker is. Although, getting her angry is [[TortureTechnician not advisable]]. There was even a moment where after Izaya was screwing around with Anri ForTheEvulz, Erika threatens him that if he makes her cry, he'll have a soldering iron to the eyes to show for it.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Erika is hinted to have this.
* IOweYouMyLife: [[spoiler: Erika states that Kadota saved her from the darkness and that she would follow him anywhere.]]
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Although the two of them are extremely close, it is shown in the light novels that Walker is slightly more attached to Erika than she is to him. Whenever Erika temporarily leaves to go hang out with her cosplay group or with another friend outside of her usual group, Walker is shown to be extremely depressed and bored since there is no one else he knows that likes anime and manga (at least not to the extent he and Erika do).
* LovableSexManiac: It doesn't help that she's a {{yaoi fangirl}} and gropes Anri.
* TheNicknamer: Examples include Yumacchi, Iza-Iza/Izayan, Shizu-Shizu/Shizu-chan and Mikapuu.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: [[http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww262/CapZiggy/06_359.jpg Erika does not know the meaning of the phrase "sexual harrassment"]].
* OneTruePairing: In-universe; Erika declares [[FoeYayShipping Shizuo x Izaya]] is the best couple of Ikebukuro in the second OVA.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When Izaya is in the process of delivering a BreakingSpeech to Anri, she hits him in the face with a paper airplane and calmly threatens to solder his eyeballs out should he make Anri cry, completely lacking her usual comical antics, making it clear she is dead serious and isn't afraid of him.
* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: Erika's inner narrative is written in MillsAndBoonProse. Her [[CombatCommentator Combat Commentary]] on a fight between Shizuo and Izaya, for example:
-->"The hot fluid flowed into the depths of his throat. While its distinctive smell lingered on Izaya's olfactory nerves, Shizuo's sordid desire was provoked further..."
* TooMuchInformation: Erika's never learned that it's in bad form to tell your friends that you fantasize about them having gay sex with each other.
-->'''Erika''': Speaking of which, seems like Dotachin and that Chikage guy are nurturing some kind of friendship after fighting each other!\
'''Kadota''': Stop talking in that way, it makes people twitch when you do.\
'''Erika''': Then I'll just say it! From my point of view, it was totally a "Thanks for the yaoi bait, it was delicious" kind of moment!
* YaoiFangirl: She ships Shizuo/Izaya [[spoiler: and Walker/Kadota]].

[[AC:Walker]]
* ApopheniaPlot: In an OVA, Walker starts believing an alien invasion has started on Earth, as the events occurring around him match the plot of a story he was making. In reality, there is no invasion and it was a conflict involving several mixed-up bags, the Awakusu fighting with a rival outfit and Izaya messing with Shizuo.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Don't make Walker angry. You may get yourself stabbed in the hand with a pair of chopsticks. Or set on fire.
* ButNotTooForeign: It's regularly implied in the LightNovels that Walker is biracial, probably with American or European ancestry.
* DaydreamBeliever: Walker's a certifiable Otakin.
* EyesAlwaysShut: He does open them briefly when he's planning to do something especially devious (like in episode 18 when he sets some Blue Squares on fire), revealing that he possesses [[YellowEyesofSneakiness gold eyes]]. Lampshaded here:
-->'''Walker''': I'd glare at you, but they're closed!
* GratuitousEnglish: His ''name'', though the books regularly imply that he's probably [[ButNotTooForeign biracial]].
* HypocriticalHumor: Walker may rag on Erika for her excessive {{Yaoi Fangirl}} tendencies (particularly her tendency to write her friends into elaborate slash fantasies) but, slash aside, he's just as bad (he once wrote a Kadota/Erika BDSM fic).
-->'''Walker''': Wait, Karisawa-san, please stop! Why are you fantasizing about Kadota-san and me in a Boys Love relationship!? I've said over and over that people like Karisawa-san are the reason the society has a negative impression of otaku culture in general! I say Kadota-san and I should become heroes in Galgames who win over the hearts of loads and loads of heroines! Actually, we can even do without Kadota-san! I'll be happy as long as I have this bondaged right hand blessed with the power of ancient moe-moe peoples so that every girl who sees my right hand would go 'Woo ~'...
* InTheHood: He wears a light blue hoodie.
* KillItWithFire: His preferred weapon of choice are molotovs and lighters. He even has a makeshift flamethrower made from a fire extinguisher. Walker sets the Blue Squares leader's van on fire with one when he and the rest of the gang rescue Saki.
* MyGreatestFailure: Walker once published a doujin novel sometime ago. He is not happy with it ''at all''. Erika however loves to tease him about it.
* PrettyBoy: The novels describe him and Erika as being good looking enough to be models, if not for their Otaku tendencies.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Saburo Togusa]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/togusa_3185.PNG]]

A member of Kyohei's crew, as well as the gang's official driver. Affiliated with the Dollars, by proxy of Kadota.
----
* {{Angrish}}: Mutters to himself incoherently over Walker and Erika's choice of replacement door for his van. When they ask if he's OK, he [[BigShutUp bellows at them to shut up]].
* BadassDriver: He always drives the van and he handles it well.
* BerserkButton: Do ''not'' threaten his van, his friends, or his favorite IdolSinger.
* BigDamnHeroes: In episode 24, alongside Kadota.
* BloodKnight: In high school, he got into a lot of fights. He actually first met Kadota during an attempt to fight him before being forced into an EnemyMine situation.
* ButtMonkey: Wonders why he has this status when Shizuo tears off the side door of his van to use as a weapon.
* CallingYourAttacks: "[[MundaneMadeAwesome Turning LEFT!]]"
* CarFu: Uses his van to fight troublemakers by ramming into them.
* CoolCar: He really puts that van into good use. Even after having the door replaced with anime characters painted on it, he still makes it work.
* DefectorFromDecadence: He's also a former member of the Blue Squares, who left alongside Kadota, after being disgusted by their amoral activities.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: When he's particularly pissed he indulges in somewhat maniacal driving. Or even when he's ''not'' particularly pissed. Case in point: driving down stairs.
* FireForgedFriends: He became friend with Kyohei after defeating members of Purple Gamble.
* TheGenericGuy: To everyone else outside of Kyohei's gang. He doesn't exactly leave a lasting impression on anyone. Celty had to be reminded what his name is.
* HeroicBSOD: Seeing Shizuo tear off a door of his van briefly sent him into shock.
* OnlySaneMan: Subverted. He may look like this in comparison to Erica and Walker, but when [[IdolSinger Ruri-chan]] comes up he proves that he's every bit the otaku they are, and when [[spoiler: Kadota gets hit by a car]], he's as ready to get violent as [[PyroManiac Walker]].
* {{Otaku}}: Unlike Walker and Erika, the object(s) of his obsession are IdolSinger Ruri Hijiribe and his Toyota Tarago.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: With a bit of LaserGuidedKarma. [[spoiler:When Kadota identifies Nasujima as the one who ran him over and caused his coma, Saburo runs him over in turn after his final attempt in seizing power fails, and hands him to Haruna.]]
* TranquilFury: After [[spoiler:Kadota gets put in a coma by a hit-and-run]], he's superficially calm even when threatening people with the WhatADrag treatment if he finds out they're responsible.

[[folder:Namie Yagiri]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/durarara_e06_13m_01s.jpg]]
-> Voiced by: Creator/SanaeKobayashi (JP), Creator/BridgetHoffman (EN)

Chief of the 6th lab of Yagiri Pharmaceuticals and older sister of Seiji Yagiri -- with whom she has a rather disturbing romantic attachment to. This has repercussions later on when she tries to capture Mikado in order to get a hold of Mika Harima, resulting in the first-ever Dollars meeting and Yagiri Pharmaceuticals' shady business involving kidnapped people being used for medical experiments being exposed, which in turn leads to Yagiri Pharmaceuticals being completely absorbed by the American company Nebula, and her out of a job, at least until Izaya offers her one...
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Brown eyes in the anime and manga, navy in the novels. Both [[CurtainsMatchTheWindow match the curtains]].
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Almost always described as this in the novels. She's tall, has long dark hair, and displays an extremely aloof and cold attitude towards anyone who isn't her brother. She's also quite attractive, even [[{{Jerkass}} Izaya]] thinks she's foxy.
* BigBadWannabe: At the time of her introduction, we were led to assume that she was going to be the main villain, but she quickly gets shown up by Mikado, of all people, and to top it all off, she's now nothing more than a pawn for the ''real'' BigBad, Izaya.
* BigBrotherAttraction: Inverted since she's the older sibling, but she makes no effort in hiding her disturbing affections for her brother.
* BrokenAce: She's always described as an incredibly stunning young woman and she has enough smarts to give ''Izaya'' a run for his money. She's also rich, as well as the head of Yagiri pharmaceuticals. Oh, and did we mention she's a virtually emotionless {{Jerkass}} who's [[BrotherSisterIncest madly in love with her brother]]?
* BrotherSisterIncest: Onesided, but her affection for her brother is clearly not platonic. This obsession results in her effectively throwing her father's company away, all to try and keep Seiji close to her.
* ClingyJealousGirl:
** More jealous than clingy. While she makes it a point to drape herself every time she sees Seiji, she doesn't stalk him or go out of her way to see him so much anymore. She just complains about Mika and gushes over Seiji via words.
** She shows the extent of her clinginess in season 3. Not only does she break a teacup when she hears Seiji is using the FirstNameBasis with Mika, she [[spoiler:actually tries to kill Mika once she starts to consider her a real "rival" for Seiji's affections]].
* DeadpanSnarker: When she's not lusting after her brother, that is.
* DecoyAntagonist: She's initially set up as the BigBad, but it quickly turns out that's not so; Izaya surpasses her by far.
* DemotedToExtra: Went from heading R&D at a chemical corporation to stirring soup and serving tea for Izaya.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler:After getting humiliated by Mikado, she later tells Horada that he's the leader of Dollars in the hopes that Mikado will be killed by him.]] Lampshaded by Izaya, who says vindictive people like her are scary.
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: [[http://www.zerochan.net/254065 Often depicted with a cleaver]] [[http://www.zerochan.net/254067 or a hacksaw]] in official art.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She likes to rub Izaya's nose in his lack of friends. But while he possesses at least one friend, she doesn't have any. Possibly a subversion seeing as she doesn't seem to ''want'' any friends.
** Her limelight episode starts off with her going on about how fake people are. She believes that people don't love, but just want to be needed and only take but never give. She swears that her love for her brother is different, despite that he only calls her when he needs money or to get him out of a bad situation. He isn't even affectionate to her. Their relationship is a prime example of the "fake love" she looks down upon.
%%%%%%%% "[[spoiler: Until she lost said job.]]" is not context because it could apply to anything.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Listen to her monologue about her "pure" love of her brother. It must run in the family.
* {{Jerkass}}: A slightly subtle version, but Namie doesn't really give a rat's ass about anyone but her brother. She's also not particularly fond of teenagers, and she's constantly insulting Celty, Mika, and Izaya, but [[JustifiedTrope you probably won't feel bad for]] [[{{Jerkass}} the latter]].
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: She'll do ''anything'' to keep Seiji safe and happy. Even cover up attempted murder and forcing a teenage girl to get plastic surgery to resemble his sick crush.
* LackOfEmpathy: Being told that she's an awful person for all of the human experiments she's been doing ''really'' doesn't faze her at all. If it doesn't hurt Seiji, then she simply doesn't care. However she is aware of empathy, making sympathetic statements about Celty's separation from her head and disturbed comments about her employers immoral actions.
* LargeHam: Normally not, but when going up against Mika in season 2, she slips into EvilIsHammy mode a few times.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Appears to live in Izaya's apartment, and often cooks his meals for him. Although she frequently complains about him and tries to annoy him all the time, she probably knows him better than anyone else (and vice versa).
* LoveMakesYouEvil: There is ''nothing'' she won't do for Seiji's sake.
* MadLove: Her relationship with her brother is one of the most disturbing in the series, and that's saying something.
* MsFanservice: Moreso in the manga, where she's shown naked in the shower for about three pages. Granted, she's [[{{Squick}} bathing her brother]], [[FanDisservice so...]]
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Many of the experiments she conducted on Celty's head in the lab involved her trying to destroy it somehow, although the head would undermine her efforts by [[HealingFactor regenerating from any injuries it sustained]]. Also, [[spoiler:she later attempted to kill Mika in the third season, although she was thwarted.]]
* NonActionSnarker: There are several [[ActionGirl action girls]] in ''Durarara!!'' but Namie isn't exactly one of them. [[spoiler: Until Season Three (or Season Two of 2X) that is, when she kicks Mika's butt in an abandoned warehouse and almost kills her. Luckily for Mika, Seiji intervenes.]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Once again, to her brother, who she pretty much drapes herself around every chance she gets. If he still lived in the same house as her, she would still [[spoiler: [[FanDisservice be taking baths with him]].]] (That [[{{Fanservice}} last part]] was only in the manga.)
* {{Ojou}}: She's the heiress of the highly successful Yagiri Pharmaceuticals, and had become the CEO of the company by the start of the story. Unfortunately, it didn't last.
* OralFixation: Yasuda Suzuhito, the illustrator of the original novel, seems fond of [[http://s1.zerochan.net/600/11/42/514611.jpg depicting her with something in her mouth]].
* ParentalNeglect: Likely the main cause of her... erm, "pure" love for Seiji. It's a little more elaborated on in the novels and the manga than it was in the anime.
* PromotionToParent: After their parents lost their jobs, she was expected to take care of her little brother while they argued about what to do. Which she did, happily.
%%%%%%* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Anime only. She wears stockings in the novels and is bare-legged in the manga.
* SassySecretary: Izaya hires her as his personal assistant after the whole fiasco with Yagiri Pharmaceuticals. Much [[DeadpanSnarker snark]] is tossed around between them.
* ServileSnarker: She would dutifully complete her tasks as Izaya's secretary. But not without finding her own ways to insult and/or irritate him along the way.
* SexySecretary: She becomes Izaya's secretary and he calls her foxy.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Disturbingly Seiji-sexual.
* SmugSnake: Up until she was shown up by Mikado, she's very sure of herself despite the fact that she fails so often.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: With Izaya on occasion, though he isn't really snarky with anyone else.
* StalkerWithACrush: She pays Izaya's sisters unbelievable amount of money to spy on Seiji on her behalf.
* TheStoic: Normally bears a stern expression (unless Seiji is involved).
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She's generally quite icy, especially in comparison to Izaya, but melts into a puddle of warm, bubbly water when Seiji's around.
* SupremeChef: She gets a [[http://anni-fiesta.livejournal.com/34040.html 95% rating]] for her cooking skills.
* TakeThatKiss: She steals a kiss from Mika right before [[spoiler:trying to disfigure Mika's face with chemicals]].
* VillainousBreakdown: She has quite the breakdown when [[spoiler:[[http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y129/lonefox/novel01.jpg The Dollars gang up on her and her goons]] ]].
** [[spoiler: In Ketsu, she completely snaps and starts spilling out personal information for the goal of getting Mikado to move.]]
* VillainousIncest: Let's just say her feelings for her brother are creepy and disturbing and leave it at that.
* VolleyingInsults: Her interactions with Izaya tend to subtly fall under this in recent volumes, though usually it's just her threatening to kill him and him taunting her.
-->'''Izaya:''' I've already had you working on everything that needs to be worked on at this point! Ahh, how boring.
-->'''Namie:''' ......May I beat you up?
-->'''Izaya:''' No. What's the matter, am I not paying you a pretty decent salary? I don't think beating up your head man would be a good idea.
-->'''Namie:''' In that case, I'm going to beat you up once I receive my salary.
* {{Yandere}}: She will do ''anything'' for her dear Seiji. She was willing to hide the fact that Mika was almost killed by her brother and get rid of Mikado because he knew too much. In the manga, she tried to destroy Celty's head when Seiji told her he liked it. Later, [[spoiler:she tried to get rid of Mika when she decided she was a threat.]]

The above-mentioned's younger brother. Dropped out of high school on the first day to be with his lover. He has now returned and is now Mika Harima's boyfriend until he retrieves Celty's head once more.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: After being DemotedToExtra. Episode two of the second cour of the second season along with Mika and Namie. Also episode one of the third cour along with Celty's guild.
* AllTakeAndNoGive: His sister would do anything for him (except giving him Celty's head) in order to keep him safe and happy. Seiji knows this, using her to get money or get him out of a bad situation and not even bothering to thank her properly in return.
* ApologisesALot: To Mikado because of the Dollars incident in the first season and to Mika for thinking she and Anri don´t talk very much now because of him.
* TheAtoner: By the end of the first half of the first season, he wanted to redeem himself after knowing that he fought with almost every character for someone who wasn’t his love.
* BatterUp: He does this to Mika in the manga, after she breaks into his apartment room through the window.
* BrokenAce: He's handsome, smart... and a huge {{Yandere}} for a ghost's severed head.
* CharacterDevelopment: By the beginning of the second season, he learned to be not so reckless and act without thinking before. He also began treating Mika as a person and not just as a girl with the face of the head he loves.
* CommutingOnABus: After Seiji began dating Mika, apart from little scenes they don’t hit hard in the plot like in the beginning. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in the second cour of the second season when it is revealed that [[spoiler:her girlfriend was [[LockedOutOfTheLoop keeping him out of every plot in the series]] in order to not being put in danger.]]
* ConstantlyCurious: He claims the reason he gets into so many problems is not because he is a good person (like Mika said) but because he just has a curious personality.
* DatingCatwoman: He saw his relationship with Mika like this at first: saying he would date the person who made his life a living hell, as a punishment to all the troubles he had caused to the other characters.
* DevotedToYou: Both Namie and Mika are crazy about him. However, he's only interested in Celty's head.
* EmptyEyes: He has blank, dull eyes at all times.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Having no problem in attempting to kill a girl if that means protect his love, but in the novel he showed clear disgust to Yagiri Pharmaceuticals and its experiments with humans, claiming that these guys don’t respect the lives of others.
* ExhaustedEyeBags: He seems to have a constant stare with lines under his eyes, as if he can barely sleep.
* {{Fanboy}}: To Kasuka and his films, [[EvenTheGuysWantHim also he has no problem in stating he is a hot guy]]. He claims to be a fan of Ruri’s makeup skills too.
* FlatCharacter: There is nothing to him beyond being a {{Yandere}} who has two other {{Yandere}}s attracted to him. That's it. However this is [[AvertedTrope averted]] in the light novels where he let see some of his HiddenDepths, but such characteristics [[AdaptationDecay were not shown in the anime adaptation]].
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Just like his sister, since their uncle was never in the house; the first thing that made Seiji feel something was when he interacted with the head.
* HeroicBSOD: How he reacted after knowing Mika’s reveal.
* HyperAwareness: As a part of his CharacterDevelopment, he began paying more attention to his surroundings and other people's behaviors: how he reacted in front of Mika, Mikado, and Akabayashi are good examples of this.
%%%%* InsaneTrollLogic: He must have learned it from his sister.
* {{Irony}}: Gives Mikado some ''constructive'' advice concerning his love life in the anime.
* IWillFindYou: Even in the end of the series, he never stopped searching for the head.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Seiji's been in love with Celty's head the moment his sister snuck him in to see it.
* ALoveToDismember: Dude fell in love with a head. It's like he's competing with Shinra for the title "Lover of the Uniquely Beautiful." Which makes it funnier since technically they are not competing despite being in love with the same woman.
* LovingAShadow: Seiji decides to stay with Mika after she confesses that she's not really Celty's head -- not because he actually likes her, but because she's a close enough substitute until he can get his hands on the real thing again.
* MadLove: His relationship with Mika definitely counts, since he not only tried to kill her once, but even after he agreed to stay in a relationship with her, he outright states he is only using her until he can find the real head of his beloved Celty again.
-->'''Seiji:''' I'm in love with the scars on your neck...
* MoralityPet: He is one for his sister. Namie will drop anything and follow whatever Seiji suggests.
* NervesOfSteel: Unless it has something to do with Celty's head, [[TheStoic absolutely nothing phases Seiji.]]
* NightmareFetishist: Besides being in love with a girl's severed head, he loves horror movies because seeing monsters reminds him of Celty's head.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He is described as not having any boyish features on his face, and looking like he is in his twenties.
* ThePenIsMightier: Does this to Shizuo, who is more amused though than actually pissed off.
* PetTheDog: He thanked Mika for how much she cared for him. In the finale, he claimed he ended up seeing her as a family even though he still affirmed he doesn’t love her.
* ThePowerOfLove: Part of his {{Yandere}} traits in the first season was always stating that love is what made him “invincible”.
* RuleOfEmpathy: The reason why he loves Celty's head, he just wants to free her and not suffer the same isolation he had to get through.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: He and Mika share this trait most of the time. However they seem to change roles when they confront someone: while Mika [[TheStoic becomes more level-headed and crafty]]; Seiji behaves like a [[HotBlooded hot blooded person]] who prefers following his instincts.
* SelectiveObliviousness: He's in love with a severed head named Celty, and doesn't comment on the headless body named Celty running around. He has been shown to be more aware of things than people expect, so it's likely he's in the same situation as Shinra, only caring about one-half of Celty and ignoring the other half.
* ShipperOnDeck: He and Shizuo are the only characters who ship Kasuka and Ruri.
* SickeninglySweethearts: He and his girlfriend are always seen cuddling and acting lovey-dovey. They are actually a subversion since their relationship is ''extremely'' disturbing.
* SingleTargetSexuality: Ever since he was a child, he has made clear he loves no one besides Celty's head.
* TheSociopath: It's pretty clear he only cares about himself and Celty's head. What does he do after he smashes his stalker's head into a wall for seeing Celty's head? He calmly calls his sister to have her take care of it and sits to eat cup noodles. The only thing that bothers him is that Celty's head would be taken away from him.
* TakeThatKiss: Gives one to [[BrotherSisterIncest Namie]] for [[spoiler:stealing a kiss from Mika and trying to kill her.]] Needless to say, it has the exact opposite effect from what he intended.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Just enough so that when Kida meets him just before he drops out of school, he suggests that he join him and Mikado in picking up girls.
* {{Yandere}}: Puts three pens in [[ShootingSuperman Shizuo]] for looking at Mika Harima wrong. Strangely enough, it was ''Celty'' who grabbed her, not him, then he tries to stab Mikado with a scalpel. And earlier than that he grabbed Mika by the hair and smashed her face into a wall just because she ''caught sight of Celty's head'' (which he had stolen from his sister's lab), resulting in Mika having a facial reconstruction which resulted in her face looking like Celty's as part of a ploy by Namie to keep Seiji under her control.
* YouKnowTooMuch: His reason for trying to kill Mika after she sees Celty's head in his room.

Seiji's girlfriend. At first, believed to be Celty's missing head in a new body, she is later revealed to be Mika Harima given plastic surgery to have Celty's face and make Seiji like her.
----
* AccompliceByInaction: Right after she confessed to Namie that [[spoiler:she had been stalking everyone in the series]] she scolded her saying that a lot of conflicts surrounding her friends would have been resolved if she had decided to intervene, and while Mika agreed with that, she stated that keeping Seiji safe is the most important to her... even so, she wasn't entirely happy with taking that decision.
* AdaptationDyeJob: The first novel describes Celty's hair as "as black as darkness itself".
* ADayInTheLimelight: Episode two of the second cour of the second season along with Seiji and Namie. Also episode one of the third cour along with Celty's guild.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Even after Seiji tried to kill her ''and'' explicitly told her he would murder her if she tries to eat Celty's head, Mika is ''still'' madly in love with him.
* BrokenAce: Pretty (even before the surgery), popular, intelligent, athletic, good with computers and electronic devices… too bad she only uses her skills [[spoiler:to stalk everyone related to her boyfriend in order to protect him.]]
* ChekhovsGunman: Shows up in the opening theme, unnamed. Anyone who saw Literature/{{Baccano}}'s opener (and the conspicuously unnamed Claire Stanfield) knows she's important.
* ChekhovsSkill: [[spoiler:Thanks to the information she managed to gather, she could prevent Seiji to be kidnapped by his uncle Seitaro and Kujiragi Kasane.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: She hides it ''very'' well, but in season 3 she reveals her [[ImAHumanitarian gruesome plans]] for Celty's head if she ever gets her hands on it.
* CommutingOnABus: She and Seiji hardly intervene in the plot by the end of the first half of the first season and the first part of the second one… [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in the second part when Mika [[spoiler:reveals that she is aware of every plot the characters are involved and deliberately avoids them in order to not put Seiji and herself in danger, [[StatusQuoIsGod to enjoy the peaceful life of keep being secondary characters]]. However due to Seiji’s uncle becoming one of the BigBad of the second season, both of them along with Namie get the spotlight again.]]
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Before she had the surgery to make her head look like Celty's.
* DitzyGenius: Mika is an academic genius who gets straight As in all of her classes. She could have gone to a prestigious high school if she wanted to but chose Raira Academy instead to be with her friend and foil, Anri.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: When Namie was about to put acid on her face, Mika thought about blowing the liquid towards her... before realizing that she wouldn't hurt any of her boyfriend's relatives, so she simply closed her eyes.
* TheFakeCutie: She seems super sweet and adorable... but then we find out what she's ''really'' like.
* FakingAmnesia: She claims that she doesn't have any memory of who she is. She's lying, of course. Namie was actually planning on really giving Mika amnesia after the plastic surgery was finished, namely by removing her memories about Seiji and Celty's head, although Mika manages to escape before she can carry it out.
* {{Foil}}: To Anri. Both girls are aware of how opposite they are to one another. Doesn't stop them from being "friends", so to speak.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: The first opening, which names off all the major players, leaves Mika completely nameless. [[spoiler: Naturally she's at the center of the big twist regarding Celty's head.]]
* GambitPileup: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] with Izaya. [[spoiler: He was one of the people victim of Mika’s surveillance, but Izaya managed to find all her devices… too bad Mika also taped the people he kept in touch so she still was aware of his plans.]]
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: Hers is a trowel, and she's not afraid to use it.
* HiddenDepths: Despite her primary character relationships are with Anri and Seiji (and through him, Namie), formerly, she's more developed than Seiji is.
* HiddenWire: She uses tiny listening devices and cameras to keep track of the people she stalks.
* ImAHumanitarian: She is planning to ''eat'' Celty's head if she ever finds it.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: At one point, she picks up a mop and begins bashing the heads of a GirlPosse with it. She also carries around a trowel.
* InLoveWithLove: As long as Seiji let her love him, she doesn't mind if her love is no required. Also Anri claimed that, before ending up with Seiji, she was always finding her “true love” in different guys.
-->''What she loved the most, was being in love with somebody.''
-->''This meant she didn't really think about the circumstances of her partner.''
-->''For the sake of her own passion, she could easily sneak into the house of her partner, and would even consider setting up bugs in the room of her dearly beloved.''
* LeParkour: She claims she gained good reflexes and athletic skills due to always climbing walls and ceilings of the people's houses and apartments she wants to stalk.
* MadLove: With Seiji. Even getting brained by him won't stop her from agreeing to illegal plastic surgery so she can hook up with him.
* MagicPlasticSurgery: She got plastic surgery to look like Celty's head.
* MasterOfUnlocking: She managed to pick a lock to a new door in seconds.
* MsExposition: Just when she was about to lose against Namie, she decided to [[spoiler: tell her every piece of information she has about the majority of the cast, [[{{Infodump}} along with important plot points, past plot twists and relationships between characters that even the viewers didn’t know]].]] Such [[TheReveal reveal]] serves as a good Recap for the viewers to keep track of the many subplots in the series.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: Mika has... ''[[ImAHumanitarian plans]]'' for Celty's real head if she ever gets her hands on it.
* NonAnswer: Every time Seiji asks her why she is in love with him, she only says ''"Because you are you"''. Inverted in one time when, after Seiji asked her the same question again, Mika replied:
-->''Mika: "I'll tell you why I love you if you pretend to love me at least"''
-->''Seiji: "as a friend?"''
-->''Mika: "as a lover"''
-->''Seiji: "[[WillNotTellALie … then I guess I'll never know]]"''
* ObfuscatingDisability: Pretends to be mute at first.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: [[spoiler:This girl knows '''everything''' that's going on: Mikado being the leader/founder of the Dollars, Izaya being stabbed, what Celty is looking for, who's who on Izaya's chat, Anri hosting Saika inside her, etc. She knows it ''all,'' and more. All because she has tapped '''everything''' and '''everyone''' relevant in the story due to the fact that they are all connected to her love, who she wants to keep safe. The only reason she hasn't revealed all that information to her friends is because Seiji might find out and intervene, getting himself hurt or killed in the process. Now digest that for a second, and then realize she might have more information than Izaya. Thank you.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: While it's obvious that she looked older after [[spoiler:getting her face chaged]], she was described as looking rather mature for her age... [[VocalDissonance until she began talking.]]
* PlayfulHacker: Learns how to hack computers to develop even further her stalking traits [[spoiler:Thanks to this, she is even aware of the identities of every people in the chatroom]]
* RedHerring: The visible scar around her neck is designed to deliberately throw off both characters in-universe and viewers who are not already in the know about the location of Celty's head.
* ReplacementGoldfish: Once Seiji finds out she's not Celty's head, he lets her stay with him anyway since she's the closest thing he has to Celty's head until he finds the real one.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: She and Seiji share this trait most of the time. However they seem to change roles when they confront someone: while Mika [[TheStoic becomes more level-headed and crafty]]; Seiji behaves like a [[HotBlooded hot blooded person]] who prefers following his instincts.
* ScarsAreForever: Has a large, jagged scar running around her entire neck. This was part of her plastic surgery in order to fake having a new head.
* ShipperOnDeck: She supports Mikado/Anri and is interested in the progress of their relationship.
* SickeninglySweethearts: She appears to be this with Seiji, since they're always seen cuddling and acting lovey-dovey. Their relationship actually is ''extremely'' disturbing.
* SinisterSurveillance: With her hacking skills and a good amount of tiny devices, she [[spoiler:keeps track of every character in the series 24/7, without remorse of violating their privacy.]] Though the only information she cares about is in which Seiji is involved.
* SnarkToSnarkCombat: The entire fight she had against ''[[DeadpanSnarker Namie]]'' in the warehouse consist mostly in one... and surprisingly enough she won the first round which put Namie in [[UnstoppableRage bersek mode]].
* SoftspokenSadist: She was all cheerful and happy while telling Namie how she planned [[spoiler: to crush and eat Celty's head until the last drop of blood and the last strand of hair.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: She had stalker tendencies ''before'' Seiji came into her life, and since then she has taken her stalking [[ExaggeratedTrope even further]]. She says she's snuck ''20'' hidden cameras in his room. Later, she reveals [[spoiler:she's been wire-tapping ''everyone remotely associated with Seiji ever'' in an effort to "protect" him]]. She's such an expert in stalking that the others bring her in as a consultant when Ruri has a stalker.
* StalkingIsLove: Apparently, Seiji is not all that bothered by her extreme stalker tendencies. Averted in the manga where he's at least shown to be disturbed by it
* SuperReflexes: She could quickly blocked the scissors that Namie threw at her with her spade. This the first scene when we can assume [[MoreThanMeetsTheEye there is something... unsettling about her.]]
* SupremeChef: She gets a [[http://anni-fiesta.livejournal.com/34040.html 100% rating]] for her cooking skills.
* SurgicalImpersonation: Of Celty's head so that Seiji would love her.
* TheyLookJustLikeEveryoneElse: Even though everyone knew she was a stalker, just by her dizzy and spaced-out looks, no one could even predict that [[spoiler: [[SmarterThanYouLook she is probably the most well informed character in the series.]]]]
* TooDumbToLive: She breaks into the room of a guy who barely knows her and loudly announces her presence to him, without maybe considering first that he might be [[AxCrazy dangerous]].
* UnreliableExpositor: [[spoiler: One of the statements Mika made was that Mikado, Anri and Masaomi don’t know the secrets of each other, when actually they knew but Mikado and Anri were waiting Masaomi to come back to Ikebukuro to share them. This could be because Mika began stalking everyone after the end of season one and adding the fact that the trio don’t talk about their secrets, there’s no way she could’ve known about it with her devices.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: Just knowing ''her name'' is a huge spoiler for the first arc of the series.
* {{Yandere}}: If you thought actually getting together with Seiji would make her lighten up on the crazy stalking, you'd be wrong. And then there's the fact that she's planning to ''[[ImAHumanitarian eat]]'' Celty's head if she ever finds it.

A young woman currently residing in the hospital who is Masaomi's [[HoneyTrap (ex?) girlfriend]] and [[{{Fangirl}} follows Izaya's]] orders to the very letter.
----
* AbusiveParents: Implied to have these. They definitely weren't visiting her in the hospital, and it explains her initial dependency on [[spoiler: Izaya.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: The primary reason she returned to Ikebukuro to talk to Anri was to "declare war" on her should Anri have feelings for Masaomi. However, she later drops the act upon learning that Anri is still trying to learn about what it means to love and regards Masaomi as something other than a love interest.
-->''"I came here ready to declare war on you. If you had feelings for Masaomi too, then I thought we'd be in for some serious carnage. If that were the case, I would be like 'I'm not letting you have Masaomi, you thieving cat!' At least, that's what I was thinking."''

* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Originally working with and obeying Izaya to manipulate Masaomi, her growing love for him allows her to betray Izaya by spilling his secrets to Simon.]]
* HoneyTrap: And Kida knew this from the beginning but went along with it anyway. He even knew that Saki was feigning illness to make him feel guilty, but he also went along with it.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Averted for the most part, but after talking with Anri in Episode 6 of ''x2 Ketsu'' and seeing how kind she is, Saki begins to wonder how serious Masaomi's relationship with Anri really is and what that means for her.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Saki is the one who motivates Kida into returning to Ikebukuro for Anri and Mikado
--> ''"You can always come home to me, Masaomi. Don't forget that. But I won't be able to help your friends. That's something only ''you'' can do, isn't it?"''
* LazyBum: Morally so; she pretty much flat out tells Masaomi, "just don't bother making up your own mind because Izaya will take care of everything for you!"
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Saki worships the ground Izaya walks on, and even admits that if he told her to jump off a cliff and die, she would do so. [[spoiler: Subverted at the end when she betrays him out of love for Masaomi, spilling the beans on Izaya's plans to Simon.]]
* OfficialCouple: With Masaomi.
* PerpetualSmiler: Saki always has a serene smile on her face, no matter what happens to her. The only times she stops smiling is in situations regarding Masaomi, such as when [[spoiler: she phones Russia Sushi and confesses to what Izaya has been doing all along.]]
* SatelliteLoveInterest: She's seen as this by some people because her background isn't really explained. After all, she was [[spoiler: working with Izaya to get close to Kida]], thus her personality isn't fleshed out like most of the characters.
* WalkingTheEarth: [[spoiler:Leaves Ikebukuro with Kida at the end of the series after they reconcile. The happenings inside the city soon force him to return, and she decides to tag along for the ride.]]
* {{Yandere}}: The way she talks to Kida about them being "destined" has shades of this but she's a mild example. Unlike others, she's truly ok with him seeing other girls because she believes they're {{Romantic False Lead}}s.
* YouCantFightFate: Says that she and Kida are destined to each other whether he likes it or not, and so it's ok with her if he sees other girls because no matter what he will always come back to her, because "Izaya says so."

A famous model and actor who got his start after saving a talent scout who made the mistake of attempting to scout his older brother Shizuo. While amazingly talented as an actor, Kasuka's natural demeanor is very [[TheStoic robotic and unemotional]].

With the occasional mention of his brother aside, Kasuka usually keeps his personal and family life under wraps. Journalists who insist on interviewing his family usually find their cars mysteriously overturned.

Affiliated with the Dollars, by proxy of Shizuo.
----
* TheAce: Ridiculously pretty, brilliant, talented in everything (his list of hobbies is The Long List), filthy rich, extremely popular, and [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter everything that can possibly make his brother Shizuo look horribly inadequate in comparison]] (Shizuo himself adores him, but it is killing his self-esteem — he doesn't even like having their names mentioned in the same sentence because he thinks it's [[InsultToRocks insulting to his brother]]).
* AccidentalAthlete: Accidental ''actor'', actually, but the principle is the same.
* AloofBigBrother: {{Inverted}}. He's the ''younger'' brother. He was rather aloof and unemotional from the very start. Doesn't stop him and Shizuo from being close, though.
* AwesomeDearBoy: InUniverse: Kasuka seems to have a soft spot for his B-movie [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot vampire ninja]] character, Carmilla Saizou. He even quotes his lines ''[[CasualDangerDialogue in life or death situations]]''.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Ruri. They're both emotionally distant idols who sync together perfectly.
* BrokenAce: Brilliant (he managed to turn a million yen into 1.2 ''billion'' in a month just from smart investing), talented, does his own stunts, [[PrettyBoy looks like he walked out of a shojo manga]], and can even sing. He also admits that he doesn't actually feel emotion at all unless he's in a role -- In Ruri's words, he's "a monster who wants to be human."
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Apart from his unnervingly {{Stoic}}, there have been anecdotes of strange behavior such as nonchalantly attempting to sever his own pinky finger or [[TooSpicyForYogSothoth unnerving a stalker badly enough to turn themselves in to the police.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Kasuka is... odd. For example, he assumed that the reason his brother kept changing jobs was because he didn't have enough clothes, so he bought him a whole bunch of bartender uniforms so that he could keep that job.
* CreepyMonotone: When he's not on the job, he speaks in an emotionless monotone.
* CrossCastRole: Kasuka's faux-encyclopedia entry notes that he's done a few crossdressing/female roles...
* DullSurprise: Kasuka ''is'' capable of showing (fake) emotion when he's acting, but in real life...
-->'''Shinra:''' You need to smile a little bit when you give cats to other people to pet. Otherwise, it's just scary.
-->'''Kasuka:''' ...But I am smiling.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Cameos in the anime for an episode even though he wasn't properly introduced until volume 4.
* EmotionlessBoy: He can't express any emotion unless he's playing a role.
* EmptyEyes: Kasuka's eyes are always flat and non-reflective, to further emphasize his incapability to emote.
* {{Expy}}: Kasuka bears an uncanny resemblance to ''Literature/{{Baccano}}'''s [[http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/ww262/CapZiggy/12_013.jpg Charon Walken]], which is noted by Saki in volume 8.
* FlorenceNightingaleEffect: How he meets Ruri. He finds her after she was sent flying by his brother while she was in one of her Hollywood disguises. He then takes her to his apartment where he takes care of her until she heals (which is fast thanks to her regeneration powers) and promises to not reveal her identity to anyone.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: According to Ruri, he's a "monster trying to become human".
* KindheartedCatLover: He loves cats, and owns one that is named Yuigadokusonmaru.
* LargeHam: While acting, Kasuka ''really'' gets into the role.
** In the second OVA, Simon ''kidnaps'' him and his film crew and takes them to Russia Sushi to keep them from filming Celty. Kasuka just rolls with it, and turns it into a kind-hearted critique of the restaurant.
-->'''Kadota:''' I can't believe they're still filming this.
* LookAlikeLovers: He has more physical similarities with his eventual girlfriend, Ruri Hijiribe, than with his actual older brother.
* MasterActor: Again, normally he has ''zero'' emotion. But you wouldn't be able to tell from his acting.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: In his first big movie role he starred as a [[OurVampiresAreDifferent Vampire]] {{Ninja}}.
* OldShame: An InUniverse [[SubvertedTrope subversion.]] Kasuka got his big start as a breakout actor in an otherwise ''very'' campy {{Toku}} series. While everyone else seems to regard it as an OldShame (He ranked #3 on a countdown for "Best Actors and Actresses [[MoneyDearBoy Who Don't Get To Pick Their Roles]]"), he asserts that [[AwesomeDearBoy Vampire Ninja Carmilla Saizou is an awesome character]] and insists on reprising the role in the series' [[TheMovie movie]].
* OneHeadTaller: Than Ruri.
* PrettyBoy: He's a popular actor known for his incredible good-looks. The novels really drive this point by saying that the word "beautiful" might as well be made to describe him.
* TheQuietOne: Outside of his job, he rarely talks unless necessary.
* RomanticFakeRealTurn: His couple act with Ruri was initially meant to be a temporary ruse, but they develop genuine feelings for each other later on.
* SecretKeeper: He knows Ruri is the serial killer Hollywood, but he promises to not tell anyone.
* SeenItAll: The completely deadpan type.
* ShoutOut: Some of the items listed on his [[http://anni-fiesta.livejournal.com/11841.html faux-Wiki page]] (particularly his manager's claim that he's a thousand-year-old vampire) are suspiciously parallel to [[Music/{{Gackt}} a certain real-life performer]].
* SiblingYinYang: He's stoic and unemotional. His brother Shizuo has a HairTriggerTemper.
* SignificantAnagram: The kanji used for his stage name can be rearranged to form his real name.
* SignificantBirthDate: His birthday is on national cat day in Japan.
* StageName: His real name is Kasuka Heiwajima, but he uses the name "Yuhei Hanejima" for his acting career.
* TheStoic: A razor-sharp contrast to Shizuo.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: He may be emotionless like a robot, but he really cares about his brother and his girlfriend Ruri, being kind to them in his own quiet way. He also has a soft spot for his cat Dokunsonmaru.
* TeenIdol: Was a celebrity since his early youth.
* TinMan: His reason for becoming an actor is because he wanted to feel the emotions that other people feel through his roles.
* TookTheBadFilmSeriously: In-universe; Kasuka has a habit of both a) taking pretty much any role that's offered to him ever, no matter how silly (see the aforementioned Vampire Ninja), and b) [[SoBadItsGood acting the hell out of it anyways.]]
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: Kasuka once scared a stalker into turning themselves in to the police simply by sitting quietly. For twenty hours.
* WhenHeSmiles: [[http://i.cdn.turner.com/asfix/repository/8a250ba13074ada30130898126e300d3/durarara-not-what-this-is.jpg See for yourself]]. [[TinMan Too bad it's all fake]].

A girl who [[TheRunaway ran away from home]] after discovering her father was having an affair and was later kidnapped and rescued by Celty. She was an anime-only character by Narita at first, but then he later used her as a minor character in the novel.
----
* CanonImmigrant: Originally an anime-only character, but later shows up in the LightNovels as one of the girls [[TheCasanova Chikage]] hooks up with while in Ikebukuro.
* ContinuityCameo: Her minor appearance in the light novels.
* ConvenientlySeated: Rio has a window seat from which she can stare out wistfully and contemplate the world and its many odd inhabitants.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: After she changed her image.
* DemotedToExtra: The second episode of the entire series revolves around her, after which she only has occasional cameo appearances. This is because she was created for the anime, which took some creative liberties in Izaya's introduction.
* GirlishPigtails: Usually has short pigtails.
* InterruptedSuicide: Izaya talked her into it and Celty interrupted it.
* TheRunaway: Left home so she could end her life.
* SuicidePact: With [[spoiler:Izaya]] of all people. Though she didn't go through with it, and he never ''intended''. This was the core of Izaya's BreakingSpeech that lead to the above trope.

Ikebukuro's resident "Debt Collector" and was Shizuo's Sempai in middle school. He's a pretty nice and normal guy that keeps Shizuo under control when he rages.
----
* AllDevouringBlackHoleLoanSharks: Subverted; Tom is generally a pretty nice guy and would rather avoid violent confrontations. He employs Shizuo mainly to use his name to scare his clients into paying him back on time since only a complete ''idiot'' would pick a fight with ''[[TheDreaded Shizuo Heiwajima]]''. Guess what kind of people a debt collector meets?
* AlliterativeName: '''T'''om '''T'''anaka.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Has noticeably darker skin than many characters, not to mention the dreadlocks, and his name suggests that he might have some non-Japanese ancestry.
* BenevolentBoss: One of the main reasons Shizuo is able to keep his job.
* DistressedDude: Back in middle school, some other kids would occasionally get the idea that kidnapping Shizuo's sempai would give them leverage in a fight. This is because [[BullyingADragon they were idiots]].
* FacePalm: Default reaction when someone (usually the person he's getting to pay their debt) pisses Shizuo off.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Shizuo.
* ImprobableHairstyle: Sports dreadlocks, very neat ones at that, probably not all that improbable from a maintenance perspective, but is somewhat rare in the world of anime.
* KidWithTheLeash: Subverted, as Tom takes offense at the suggestion -- Shizuo is his ''friend'', not his attack dog.
-->'''Tom:''' The kid's not a dog, and he's not on anyone's side to begin with. You try talking to him and you'll know. He's far more normal than you may think.
* KickTheDog and/or KickTheSonOfABitch: In Izaya's flashback he is seen stepping on the head of [[AssholeVictim Takashi Nasujima-sensei]] as Nasujima lowers his head [[PoseOfSupplication begging for mercy.]] It's also possible he's kicked other puppies collecting from debtors that are are TooDumbToLive or just dirt-poor. It's strictly professional, of course.
* NiceGuy: He's the first person to show Shizuo kindness.
* NonActionGuy: In his own words, "I'm just not good at fighting."
* OnlySaneMan: Compared to most of the cast, he's a very mellow guy that prefers to use his brains instead of his fists.
* PetTheDog: In anime filler, he was comforting a girl whose boyfriend is the debtor he was chasing.
* WeakButSkilled: Let us reiterate, he is the '''only''' person who knows how to prevent Shizuo from raging, or keep him under control when he inevitably starts.

Shinra's father and source of most of his weirdness, Shingen was living in America up until recently, when he decided to return to Japan and impose himself on his son for reasons he has yet to disclose. Believing Tokyo's air to be terribly filthy and unfit for breathing, he opts to wear a gas mask 24/7.
----
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's a brilliant doctor by all accounts, but he's obsessed with air pollution, hence the gas mask.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Drops off of the radar completely after episode 14, one episode after he was introduced. He reappears with a slightly bigger role in ''Durarara!! x2''.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: No one who looks that menacing should act that goofy.
* CoolMask: His mask has what look like devil horns, a contrast to the cute-looking cat ears on Celty's helmet.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: [[spoiler: Was able to wield Saika in the past, without being driven insane by it.]]
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: A [[LampshadeHanging self-acknowledged]] flaw.
* TheFaceless: His face was never shown in the anime.
* FanDisservice: Was on the receiving end of an invoked ShowerOfAwkward by Shinra, who thought it was Celty in the shower.
* GasMaskLongcoat: Always wears a doctor's smock and a gas mask because Tokyo's air is just so terrible. The mask stays on even when he's naked in the shower, as Shinra witnessed to his misfortune. [[spoiler:He later hires Egor and Eijirou to help him get revenge for his son getting beaten up and they end up wearing identical gas masks.]]
* LargeHam: Generally, at the others' expense.
* MadDoctor: And for "mad" we mean "totally bonkers" here.
* PapaWolf: According to the novel, [[spoiler: Shingen cut off Celty's head and sold Saika's sword off to Anri's parents in order to protect Shinra from Namie's grandfather who threatened to kill Shinra if he didn't.]]
** [[spoiler:When he discovers that Shinra was beaten up by Ruri's stalker and one of Shingen's friends was the reason for it, Shingen doesn't hesitate to call and warn him that he'll kick his ass for it.]]
* ParentWithNewParamour: Vol. 4 and the first episode of ''Durarara!! x2'' reveals that Shingen remarried while he was in America -- to a woman ''younger than his son''.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Going off Egor mistaking Shinra for his father, it's implied underneath that gas mask, an eccentric nature isn't the only thing Shingen passed on to his son.
* WhyCouldntYouBeDifferent: Why couldn't you ''not'' be sexually attracted to headless women, Shinra? [[spoiler: He has accepted it by Season 2, and then insists that Celty refer to him as "father(in-law)".]]

A motorcycle cop brought in to Ikebukuro to take down Celty. Often just a little bit ''too'' into chasing down suspects, to the point that he causes as many accidents as he prevents.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: Despite getting billed as a main character in the second opening, his appearance and role is pretty minimal.
* AlliterativeName: '''K'''innosuke '''K'''uzuhara.
* BadassBiker: He's always on it and he always drives well.
* BadassBoast: "Don't jack with the cops, monster."
* CatchPhrase: "Don't screw with the traffic cops."
* CoolBike: As a police officer who uses a motorcycle to get around, this is to be expected.
* CowboyCop: Once Celty's on his sights, he will do whatever it takes to catch her so he can finally give her a fine for all the times she broke traffic violations.
* TheDreaded: At least for Celty.
* GenreSavvy: "I often think about how people like us tend to be the [[RedShirt weak foils]] to stars like you in fiction..."
* HeroAntagonist: He seems like an asshole, but while it's totally true he's overzealous in doing his job, he also is justified in wanting to curb the activities of a reckless motorist, which Celty tends to be.
* InspectorJavert: He's obsessed with trying to convict Celty for violation of traffic.
* MeddlesomePatrolman: He's always trying to stop Celty, regardless of what she's doing.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: He bears a pretty good resemblance to Creator/ClintEastwood. The dub takes it even further by having his voice be a Clint Eastwood impression.
* PreAsskickingOneLiner: To Horada in episode 24 - "You know it's a bad idea to swerve dangerously next to a cop with his lights off. Don't screw with the traffic cops, boy."
* RedShirt: Lampshaded mockingly by Kinnosuke during his confrontation with Celty.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: Usually seen with a red scarf.
* XMarksTheHero: Has an x-shaped scar on his right cheek. His niece Shinju Kuzuhara has a similar scar on her left cheek, so it could even be a genetic birthmark.

A high school student who mysteriously transferred out of Raira Academy after an incident involving her and Nasujima.
----
* AllTakeAndNoGive: Her relationship with Nasujima was implied to be this, since Haruna mentions having to give him money to keep him happy. Not that she minded, as long as he loved her back.
* AxCrazy: It's very clear that the break up with Nasujima and said person lusting for Anri has made her very unstable. She's more than willing to spread Saika's love, especially if it means making Anri suffer.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Haruna hates the very idea that Takashi is in love with someone else. [[MurderIsTheBestSolution Her solution to that is very simple.]]
* DissonantSerenity: Always has a creepy, serene smile on her face.
* EmptyEyes: She always has those blank eyes with no eyeshine, which only make her look even more creepy and crazy.
* EvilPlan: Track down her beloved Nasujima-sensei is half of it. The other half is [[TheVirus spreading Saika's love around.]]
* ForTheEvulz: While speaking with Anri for the first time, she tells Anri that she wants to kill her friends and force her to watch, something that will do absolutely nothing to benefit her.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Haruna used to be a normal girl before she was attacked by the Slasher and became one of Saika's children. It all went downhill from there.
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: Since she's The Slasher and a wielder of Saika, she can use any sharp instrument to cut people into her control.
* HiveQueen: Of Saika's children, before Anri defeats her. Once Haruna was slashed, her children become Anri's.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Calls Anri a "skank" that flings herself onto other men for comfort when she does the same thing when she sees Nasujima-sensei.
* LackOfEmpathy: Despite claiming to be Saika and love everything because of Saika, she shows no empathy when Anri shows her how she's able to block out Saika via showing her the past with her [[AbusiveParents abusive father]]. Her response is to just keep attacking.
* LegionOfDoom: Is a member of Izaya's crew during his "comeback."
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: She has not gotten over her breakup at all.
* MadLove
* MessyHair: Her long black hair is pretty unkempt.
* MissingMom: Her mother's status is unknown.
* MoreThanMindControl: Unlike the other "children" of Saika, Haruna is the only one who is aware at all of Saika's presence and fully embraces it after initial misgivings. Of course, she still can't fully forgive Anri.
* MurderTheHypotenuse: She wants to kill Anri to make her pay for "stealing" Takashi away from her.
* PretendToBeBrainwashed: [[spoiler:She pretended to be under Takashi's control because that's what he wanted from her. Takashi being run over by Kadota's gang for his own hit-and-run attempt on the latter helped.]]
* PsychoExGirlfriend: Of Nasujima.
* PsychoPink: Haruna Niekawa is easily one of the less sane characters in the show, which is saying something given the CastFullOfCrazy. She's an AxeCrazy Saika Child who slashes hundreds of people across Ikebukuro to express Saika's love and is worryingly obsessed and infatuated with her former teacher, Mr. Nasujima, despite him being a pedophile who only wanted her money. After Anri cuts her, she returns wearing a bright [[ElegantGothicLolita pink dress and a rose-themed purse]], and is every bit as violent and unstable as ever.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: While possessed by Saika, her eyes turn red.
* SinisterScythe: She is shown wielding a large red scythe in volume 9 of the light novels.
* SlasherSmile: After being revealed as The Slasher, she sports a scary one when attacking.
* SmugSnake: Always has a smug, even sinister smile on her.
* TeacherStudentRomance: The reason why Haruna transferred schools is rumored to be because of her affair with Nasujima-sensei. In reality, it was because she was caught [[AxCrazy trying to cut him with a knife to physically verify their love]].
* UncannyValleyGirl: Especially when she's using her Slasher persona.
* UngratefulBitch: Even though Anri spared her of being controlled by Saika, she still wants revenge on her.
* {{Yandere}}: She's determined not to let her love for Nasujima be denied.

* ButtMonkey: The poor guy is in trouble with lots of people. And constantly finds himself being thrust into worse situations. But, then again, he deserves it... maybe.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown eyes and hair.
* {{Ephebophile}}: He has a fixation on high school girls. He had a relationship with Haruna, purely for his own self-interests, and when that went south after she tried to cut him, he changed his preferences to [[ShrinkingViolet Anri]].
* EvilTeacher: Double subverted. During his employment at Raira, he's more of an unsympathetic creep than he is an actual villain. Come Season 2, however, he becomes a sinister, sick-minded bastard who [[spoiler:kidnaps Haruna and uses her to take full control of the Saika Army]].
* EvilIsNotAToy: [[spoiler:While he successfully manipulated Haruna's feelings and gained control of Saika for a while, Haruna eventually breaks free from his control and decides his plans aren't favorable to what ''[[ClingyJealousGirl she]]'' has in mind for them.]]
* HateSink: Not easy to like a slimeball teacher who has a thing for [[{{Ephebophile}} high school girls]], like Anri. [[spoiler:He gets much worse in season two, where he tries to take over the city using Saika.]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: At the end, [[spoiler: Haruna has Nasujima imprisoned in one of Izaya's old hideouts converted into a BDSM dungeon. She expresses her intent to have her wildest erotic fantasies with him forever, [[AndIMustScream obviously without his consent.]]]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler:Nasujima was the culprit behind Kadota's hit and run. When he is trying to hitch a ride in Togusa's van in an attempt to get away from Haruna, Kadota recognizes him as the guy behind the car that ran him over prompting Togusa to run him over. He is then punished further by being Haruna's captive.]]
* MadeOfIron: [[spoiler:It might be because of Saika, but he's been punched by Shizuo, hit by a van, and still managed to come out unharmed.]]
* MuggingTheMonster: A panicked Nasujima runs from [[spoiler:Anri]] and tries to rob the first person he sees -- who happens to be Shizuo.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: [[spoiler: He intentionally runs over Kadota, causing a lot of problems in the story. And while he's later ousted as a BigBadWannabe, his last act in the story is viciously stabbing and almost killing Mikado.]]
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler:After resisting control of Kasane's Saika, he decides to get revenge on Ikebukuro by taking control of Haruna's children by slashing Haruna herself. Her children become his and he orders them to slash as many Ikebukuro denizens as possible.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: He tends to follow Anri around quite a bit during school, [[spoiler:and even tries to visit her apartment in Episode 16.]]
* SmugSnake: Takashi has ''definitely'' evolved into this after he [[spoiler:resisted and overpowered Kasane's Saika and possessed both Haruna and her 'children'. Subverted when it turns out Haruna was in control all this time and had faked her possession.]]
* TeacherStudentRomance: Their [[{{Subverted}} relationship wasn't romantic]] in the slightest, but he dated Haruna Niekawa, who transferred schools supposedly because of their relationship. He later stalked and harasses Anri, hoping to get his digs into her as well. [[spoiler:This changes after he finds out Anri is the original possessor of Saika and runs away in fear following her fight with Haruna, who was thought to be Saika.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Attempts to stab Anri when his Saika takeover plan fails, but Mikado gets in the way, which causes him to lose it and stab him multiple times. When Haruna reveals that she had only pretended to be brainwashed, Takashi runs away screaming only to be run over by Saburo in retaliation for putting Kadota in the hospital.]]
* WigDressAccent: Wears a beard and a pair of sunglasses to disguise himself when he returns to Ikebukuro.
* ZombieApocalypse: [[spoiler:Winds up creating something like it in ''x2'' after he takes control of Saika, intending to infect everyone [[ItsAllAboutMe and take the spotlight for himself]].]]

A jerkass member of the Yellow Scarves who becomes an antagonist in the second half of the series.
----
* BigBadWannabe: Views himself as a credible threat and criminal genius ready to take the the city by storm. While he causes a lot of trouble, he's largely a pawn to Izaya.
* ButtMonkey: He gets (deservedly) beaten-up a lot.
* DirtyCoward: He always gets other people to do the dirty work for him or claim that he's doing jobs for somebody else.
* {{Ephebophile}}: Seeing Anri's er, assets, gives him a {{nosebleed}}.
* {{Expy}}: Often compared to Dallas Genoard of ''Literature/{{Baccano}}''.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:He and his fellow members of the Blue Squares managed to join the Yellow Scarves because nobody ever bothered giving them a background check after their old gang disbanded. One of the events leading to his arrest is the revelation that a number of Dollars pulled the same trick on ''him'' during his own recruitment drive after kicking out all of the Kida-sympathetic Scarves.]]
* HateSink: Horada is irredeemable gutter trash. [[spoiler: He instigates violent unprovoked attacks on the Dollars, including Takiguchi, simply because he can. Besides Shizuo, Kyohei, and Simon, most of them aren't even a threat to him. He's also scheming to usurp Masaomi's position as leader of the Yellow Scarves and rule the streets of Ikebukuro. It doesn't help that he's a former member of the Blue Squares, who were well known for their brutality when fighting the Yellow Scarves in the past.]]
%%zce* HumiliationConga: [[spoiler:He gets an ''eminently'' satisfying one in episode 24.]]
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Heavy on the ineffectual, low on the sympathetic.
* {{Jerkass}}: He seems to have no qualms about causing a ruckus when necessary, [[spoiler:even shooting Shizuo]].
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: [[KickTheDog Does he ever.]]
* TheMole: [[spoiler:He was previously a member of the Blue Squares, but joined the Yellow Scarves after his old group was defeated, and gradually infiltrated them with other former Blue Squares.]]
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler:He usurps Masaomi's position as leader.]]
* SmugSnake: He's a stupid thug and one of Izaya's pawns, but thinks of himself as a criminal mastermind.
* SmallNameBigEgo: See SmugSnake above.
* TooDumbToLive: As soon as his plans to [[spoiler:take over the Yellow Scarves]] falls apart, it's apparent how much of a moron he really is.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Is absolutely terrified of both the figures Shizuo Heiwajima and Ran Izumii after getting out of jail and desperately tries to avoid both of them. He of course ends up meeting both.

A fellow classmate of Masaomi, Ryo Takiguchi is just an average joe who likes composing his own music, playing on a harmonica, and just so happens to be a [[OpenSecret member of the Dollars]]. He is later targeted by members of the Yellow Scarves, who [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beat him up horribly]] and leave his unconscious body next to graffiti as part of their self-declared war against the Dollars. He considers leaving the organization afterward, but just can't bring himself to do it in the end, and [[HeroicBystander sticks around to help out]].
----
* CanonForeigner: A minor character who was only introduced in the anime version.
* CollateralAngst: Poor Takiguchi gets beaten up ''brutally'' by several of the Yellow Scarves [[spoiler:who are actually former members of the Blue Squares]]. However, being a minor character, his suffering is mostly ignored in favor of Mikado's angst about Dollars in general.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Black hair and black eyes.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Takiguchi briefly considers leaving the Dollars after realizing they've lost their original non-color ideology, but ends up changing his mind again because of TeamSpirit with the other members of the Dollars.
* {{Delinquent}}: Mikado assumes this at first, but it ends up being a misunderstanding.
* InnocentBystander: At first, but he later becomes a HeroicBystander when he's given the chance to help out.
* LaserGuidedKarma: After getting beaten up by Horada's gang, Takiguchi gets some karmic retribution when he happens to be in front of a stack of boxes in a shop, right when Horada is passing by. Naturally, he "accidentally" pushes them over at this point, and causes the whole pile to fall on Horada and slow him down.
* LastNameBasis: Everyone who knows him just calls him Takiguchi.
* NiceGuy: Which makes his subsequent, undeserved assault by the Yellow Scarves even more cruel and painful to watch.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: The unfortunate victim of one. The beating is so severe, Takiguchi has to be hospitalized for a while afterward.
* NumberOneDime: A subtle example. Moments before he is attacked, his harmonica falls out of his pocket and is subsequently smashed by the bat that one of the thugs brings along.
* OpenSecret: Unfortunately, Mikado and Masaomi weren't the only ones who knew he was secretly a member of the Dollars...
* SittingOnTheRoof: He is apparently fond of sitting on the school's roof during his lunch break to compose his own music and play his harmonica.

She carries around a "Most Desired Object" sign in Episode 8, asking people to write down what they're looking for in a journal, and later helps Anri escape from Horada and his gang.
----
* AnimeAccentAbsence: Played straight. {{Subverted}} in the dub.
* GogglesDoNothing: Has a pair of pink sunglasses that sit on top of her head and do little else.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: If the "Most Desired Object" journal is any indication.
* HeroicBystander: She starts off the chain of helpful bystanders for Anri's sake.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Her online handle is Siri, but her real name is unknown.

An illegal immigrant from Italy. He is friends with Kyohei's gang. Affiliated with the Dollars.
----
* AnimeAccentAbsence: Justified in this case -- Italian has pretty much the same pronounciation for words as Japanese.
* BeadyEyedLoser: [[NonStandardCharacterDesign The only character with these kinds of eyes]].
* BigNo: Sort of. His e-mail address is "kaztanooooooo".
* FunnyForeigner: He's the goofiest of the foreigners by far.
* GuileHero: Attempts this in his intro episode to escape a kidnapping, but isn't very successful. He gets to be a more successful example [[spoiler: when he and the other Dollars work together to save Anri from Horada.]]
* TheIllegal: He's an illegal immigrant from Italy.
* LostInTranslation: The dub gives him quite a thick Italian accent while Japanese dialogue is replaced with English, which makes his attempts to pass himself off as Japanese sound utterly ridiculous.
* TheNicknamer: Kaztano seems to have a habit of adding "no" to the end of names to make them sound Italian, e.g. "Togusano" and "Dotaccino".

* TheFakeCutie: Their cutesy accesories and heavy use of makeup suggests this.
* GangOfBullies: They constantly harass Anri.
* {{Hypocrite}}: All three of them like to spout that Anri is a slut who likes to seduce men, when it's the [[ReluctantFanServiceGirl exact opposite]]. Given the places they like to hang out and what kinds of boyfriends they have, it can probably be assumed that they're much worse than Anri in this regard.
* MindControlEyes: [[spoiler:When they get possessed by Saika.]]

* {{Delinquent}}: Pretty much a gangsta wannabe that only does minor infractions.
* HeyYouHaymaker: Becomes a victim of one; in the second OVA, Mairu introduces herself with a handstanding kick to the face right after he rudely bumps her sister, Kururi.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Not a dangerous villain by any means, but he does get beaten up a few times for being a jerk.
* JiveTurkey: "Yo yo yo... Hey, man!"
* TraumaticHaircut:

An executive of the [[{{Yakuza}} Awakusu-kai]], Haruya Shiki is also one of its youngest members. He is the only Yakuza who uses honorific speech at all, except to his subordinates, and is the one responsible for dealings with the informant, Izaya. He is briefly seen in episodes 12.5 and 15 of the anime's first season, in the latter when the reporter Shuji Niekawa interviews him about the strongest person in Ikebukuro.
----
* AffablyEvil: For an executive member of the Awakusu-kai, he's a stickler for proper manners and respectfulness to one's superior, clients, or business partners. That said, if you show any form of rudeness to the aforementioned, prepare for very harsh discipline.
* PerpetualFrowner: He hardly ever smiles when he's onscreen.
* PetTheDog: Often seen as a cold and ruthless person ([[{{Yakuza}} for a good reason]]), but he does have a genuinely soft side in him, which he shows to Akane after finding her again.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Is surprisingly mellow for a gangster, when Shizuo is framed for murder of several Yakuza (by Izaya, of course), Shiki calmly and rationally deduces the fact that Shizuo was framed and lets him go.
* SharpDressedMan: Wears a white suit that never has a single scuff on it.

The leader of Blue Squares that got into a confrontation with the Yellow Scarves. He was the one that kidnapped Saki and broke her legs in order to get Kida to face his gang directly. After many years, he's out of jail and he wants revenge on the people who betrayed him and ruined his life.

* DumbMuscle: [[spoiler: Or maybe not, he did perform his role in Izaya's trolling of Earthworm and Shijima pretty well.]]
* EvilCounterpart: Can be seen as this to Shizuo. Both are imposing men who regularly wear sunglasses, and the two share a penchant for violence which is accompanied by raw strength (even if Izumii doesn’t hold a candle to [[CharlesAtlasSuperpower Shizuo]]). They also both have [[HairTriggerTemper terrible tempers]], younger brothers, and grudges against Izaya. However, Shizuo is a NiceGuy underneath all of his [[BerserkButton Berserk Buttons]] who wants nothing more than to control his anger, in contrast to Izumii who is a full-fledged {{Jerkass}} that HatesEveryoneEqually and doesn’t care about improving himself. And while Shizuo is [[BigBrotherInstinct fiercely protective]] of his brother Kasuka, Izumii is a severe BigBrotherBully whose abuse had a profound negative effect on Aoba’s psyche.
* FreudianExcuse: Not that it excuses his actions, but his belief that he's TheUnfavorite seems genuine. Also, his father was shown to be physically abusive when [[spoiler: Aoba lit his room on fire]].
* {{Gonk}}: In the anime, he was rather chubby and ugly. Getting set on fire and thrown in jail made him lose weight and part of his face.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Definitely evil, with half of his face with ugly burn scars that emphasize his psychotic nature.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: During his ADayInTheLimelight episode, he would call random people assholes during his narrations.
* {{Jerkass}}: Has an awful temper and tends to take most of it out on a brother of his.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While [[spoiler: Aoba]] claims that their parents loved both of them, the only time we ever see their parents, his father [[AbusiveParents isn't exactly shown to be the loving and understanding type]].
* NoSmoking: Averted. While anime adaptations usally refrain from showing underage smoking, a flashback before he got arrested in the anime showed him smoking. Since it was mentioned that he was sent to juvenile hall, it can be assumed he was still a minor.
* OffscreenVillainy: His abuse towards Aoba was only mentioned in the anime, and not with much detail. It makes Aoba [[spoiler: setting his room on fire to get him in trouble]] seem more like DisproportionateRetribution.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: [[spoiler:Mikage would have let Izumii smash Earthworm's face in or set her on fire, but not rape her.]]
** [[spoiler: Averted in the light novels, where Mikage was perfectly okay with Izumii raping Earthworm.]]
* {{Revenge}}: When he gets out of jail, he tells [[spoiler:Izaya that he only used the Hot Pot group so he can get information on those he wants revenge on and kill them. He has his eyes set for Aoba, Kida, Kadota, Walker and Izaya. Crosses over with DisproportionateRetribution.]]
* ScarfOfAsskicking: To show that he's part of Blue Square, he's usually wearing a long, blue scarf.
* SmokingIsCool: Subverted. [[spoiler:He likes smoking but Aoba uses this to his advantage to set his room on fire. This causes their dad to punch him and shout that it was his fault the room caught fire.]]
* TheUnfavorite: He thinks he's this compared to [[spoiler: Aoba.]]
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Aoba uses him to control Blue Squares. Of course, because he's a dumbass, he nearly ruins it for Aoba.]]

Mairu is the one on the right, in white. Kururi is the one on the left, in black.
----
[[AC:Both]]
* AlwaysIdenticalTwins: Subverted. Mairu and Kururi are fraternal twins despite the matching outfits and [[CreepyTwins creepiness]].
* AnimalMotifs: [[CatDogDichotomy Dogs for Mairu.]] [[CatDogDichotomy Cats for Kururi.]] Befitting their [[GenkiGirl respective]] [[EmotionlessGirl personalities]].
* AnnoyingYoungerSiblings: Izaya does not like them ''at all.'' For what it's worth, though, they're not particularly fond of him either.
* BadassAdorable: Especially Mairu, who she was capable of taking on the Yellow Scarves members single-handedly as seen in the second OVA.
* BrainsAndBrawn: Kururi's the brains, Mairu's the brawn.
* BullyingADragon: Bullying the crazy girls is highly ill-advised. Kururi will probably frame you for arson if you do, and [[UncertainDoom we're still not sure what Mairu did to the last one that tried]].

* CreepyTwins: They both consider themselves to be one half of a person and never separate from each other.
* CustomUniform: Both of them. Mairu wears a nonstandard black SailorFuku, while Kururi wears a gym uniform.
* CustomUniformOfSexy: Kururi's uniform emphasizes this aspect, since she opts to wear the school's gym uniform instead. This doesn't seem so bad until one realizes just how skimpy the [[http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/ek20110217wh.html bloomers]] are...
* CuteAndPsycho: They both can do some pretty rough things like nearly make somebody swallow a box of thumbtacks or set a student's backpack on fire.
* TheDividual: Twindividual to be exact. They don't even consider themselves separate people.
-->'''Shoro:''' You two are such a great pair. Honestly.
-->'''Mai:''' We're not a pair.
-->'''Kyo:''' We're one person. You're insulting the real pairs in this world by saying we're a pair. Though none of them are here to hear you, you should still apologize to them.
* EarlyBirdCameo: The twins show up briefly in episode 8 of the Durarara anime [[note]]at 9mins 14seconds - give or take a second - when Walker is asking Simon if he's seen Erika[[/note]], but don't get properly introduced until episode 25.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In the books, Mairu is introduced reading schoolgirl fetish porn in the middle of class and commenting very loudly on the subject matter.
* {{Fangirl}}s: Both of them are raging Kasuka fangirls.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: Or as their brother puts it, "what a pair of intolerable eighth-grade-disease[[note]]chuuni-byou/中二病[[/note]] patients." When asked what he meant by that, he simply suggested [[http://en.akibablog.net/archives/2008/12/weeklyakibawords_chuuni_byou.html googling it]].
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Shizuo, of all people.
* KickChick: Both of them are, since Kururi has no problem with kicking men who are harassing her and her sister right in the [[GroinAttack groin]], and Mairu doesn't mind [[PantyShot flashing her panties]] when delivering her own powerful kicks backed by iron-plated shoes.
* {{Lovable Sex Maniac}}s: Both of them, but Mairu is more obvious about it.
* MsFanservice: Both of them, but Mairu seems to like invoking this.
** At one point, the two of them hung out with Aoba at the school pool while the latter had to think. Aoba ends up leaving because seeing them in swimsuits was [[MaleGaze "too distracting"]].
* MetaGirl: Or girls, come the last two episodes during their chatroom appearances.
* MoralityPets: To [[spoiler:Aoba to the point where he outright states for Blue Squares not to involve them in this Gang War because he has taking a liking to them. Especially Kururi.]]
* NoodleIncident: Whatever happened between Mairu and the schoolgirl bully she dragged into the lavatory, especially after Mairu emerges [[LesYay holding the girl's bra]], is never explained.
* PolarOppositeTwins: They deliberately cultivated themselves to be such, going as far as to flip a coin to see who got to have which trait. [[spoiler:Izaya]] says that [[SingleMindedTwins they don't actually consider themselves to be separate people]], and that they're invoking the real-world equivalent of [[AnAdventurerIsYou RPG party balance]].
** According to Shinra, this is a direct reaction against some of the emotional abuse [[BigBrotherBully Izaya]] put them through. [[spoiler:When they were as young as five, Izaya would, [[GuineaPigFamily as a social experiment]], suggest to them that one of them should just kill themselves if they're just going to be identical, redundant copies of each other]]. Not quite being like other people, they decided the solution was to get out some dice, assign as many different character traits they could think of between them, and live with these new "personalities" for the rest of their lives.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Just like Izaya, they tend to get depicted with devilish eyes.
* SiblingSenioritySquabble: Averted. Mairu always addresses her twin as "Kuru-nee" (big sister).
* SingleMindedTwins: Despite the PolarOppositeTwins personas, Mairu and Kururi don't actually consider themselves as individuals. This is best evidenced by the fact that, on the internet, the two switch roles entirely -- Mairu's practically a [[ForumSpeak Lurker]] while Kururi [[MotorMouth never shuts up]].
* TricksterTwins: They're called troublemakers by Izaya, and are completely uninhibited by social norms.
* TwinBanter: Particularly on the internet.
* {{Twincest}}: Mairu and Kururi are close, ''really'' close. They kiss on-screen.
* TwinThreesomeFantasy: Invoked; They have ''no'' problem with hooking up with the same guy and they both ''really'' seem to like [[spoiler: Aoba]] at the moment.
* VerbalTic: Kururi's speech is very brief and somewhat disjointed. She also almost never raises her voice above a whisper. On the internet, she speaks normally.
** Averted in the second OVA, where she speaks complete sentences in a normal tone of voice.
* YuriFan: After Kida tells a somewhat-dirty joke in the chatroom:
-->'''Kyo (Kururi):''' Speaking of which, um... if Bakyura-san (Kida) is a female, I would really be confused as to how to react. If two females are to blow the same clarinet...and kind of kiss that way...it would have been just beautiful and elegant and worthy of a place in my permanent memory. Should I say dreamy or unrivaled? Anyway, that's how I would feel.
-->'''Mai (Mairu):''' So erotic!

[[AC:Mairu]]
* AttackHello: Mairu has been greeting Izaya with attempts to break his neck ever since [[RhetoricalRequestBlunder Shizuo jokingly said he'd introduce them to Kasuka if they ever managed to kill him]].
* BigSisterInstinct: Inverted as she's the younger twin, but she has this towards Kururi. When the thugs in the second OVA knocked Kururi down, Mairu's response was to beat the shit out of them.
** In the second season, she puts Kururi behind her and takes a stand when they encounter an injured Egor.
* CuteBruiser: She's skilled in martial arts. If a thug harasses her or her twin, you can bet that she'll kick their ass.
* GenkiGirl: She's the energetic twin and an absolute chatterbox with a manic smile.
* MurderousThighs: In a fight with some thugs in the OVA.
* PornStash: Mairu has one, although it's hard to call it a ''stash'' when she carries at least one porn mag on her person at any given time and reads them in public.
* SheFu: As demonstrated in the second OVA.
* WaifFu: Justified because she regularly attends a gym school, where she learns self-defense techniques.

[[AC:Kururi]]
* CatSmile: In the second OVA.
* CombatPragmatist: If she's ever in the middle of conflict, she has pepper spray handy.
* EmotionlessGirl: As the quiet twin, she's laconic and typically inexpressive.
* AHandfulForAnEye: Those who try to mess with her get pepper-sprayed in the eyes.
* TheQuietOne: She generally only talks when necessary and when she does, she only says what she needs to say. When she's in a chatroom, on the other hand...
* RapidFireTyping: Kururi's fast typing allows her to talk nearly non-stop online, at least until she hits the word limit.
* ShipTease: It's heavily hinted that she harbors a crush on Aoba.
* TheStoic: Doesn't say very much, react very often, and tends to keep to herself.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She's inexpressive and quiet most of the time, yet she's affectionate and open to the people she's fond of, such as her sister and Aoba.
