!!Emmy
[[quoteright:210:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emmy2.png]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/AndreaLibman

A six-year-old Latina girl who likes learning new things.

* CharacterCatchphrase: "Definitely."
* CoolBigSis: To Max.
* DemotedToExtra: Sort of. While she’s still one of the main characters in season 3, Emmy has far fewer episodes where she’s the focus, due to the introduction of Enrique combined with the fact that she’d always had less focus episodes than Max to begin with.
* DragonRider: She rides on her best friend Cassie.
* LimitedWardrobe: Like Max and Enrique, she mostly plays this straight (only changing her regular outfit when the situation requires it)…except for the season 2 episode “Head Over Heels”, where she’s seemingly randomly wearing jeans and a t-shirt similar to Enrique’s.
* MagicSkirt: Averted. In fact, the aforementioned episode where she wears jeans and a t-shirt just so happens to be the one in the entire series that calls for Emmy to do cartwheels, so it might not be as random a case as it appears.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Since Emmy is usually portrayed as the responsible sibling who, in Max's words, can "do anything", it's intentionally portrayed as rather jarring during the rare occasions when Emmy acts irresponsibly (such as the time she broke Wheezie's trumpet and then lied about it) or demonstrates weakness (when jerks tease Emmy's team during a basketball game, Emmy's the one who takes it the hardest, and thus she's the one who learns the episode's aesop about not letting teasing bother you).
* NeverMyFault: Emmy absolutely refusing to take blame on her arrogance and always tries to make herself look like the victim.
* {{Pride}}: Emmy's biggest flaw, but given the non-hostile nature of this show, it really only comes up a few times, such as Emmy being unable to cope with losing a game, or wanting Max to do things her way which summons a literal "Copy Cat".
* RedIsHeroic: She wears a red shirt.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: In "Tails, You Lose" Emmy loses a game of Freeze Dance and gets so angry that she wishes herself home. She takes a few moments to herself, but while it calms her down, it also makes her realize she's lonely. She rejoins her brother and her friends and learns to take losing better.
* SoreLoser: In "Tails, You Lose". When Emmy loses the game fair and square, she angrily decides to go back home and play all by herself. Eventually, the loneliness starts to get to her and after letting out a bit of steam with her whale puppet, she decides to go back to Dragon Land and resume playing with her friends and Max. After a chat with Quetzal and seeing how well Ord took his loss on the chin as opposed to Emmy, she learns to accept her defeat with grace.
* SpiritedCompetitor: In "Tails, You Lose," she initially didn't want to play Freeze Dance unless she could win. After she lost the first round, she went home in temper. He returned to her brother and friends after a few minutes, though.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She loves sports a lot and isn't afraid to get dirty but also enjoys playing with dolls and doing girly things with Cassie.
* TomboyishPonytail: Her usual hairstyle which fits her tomboyish nature.

!!Max
[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/max_93.png]]
-->Voiced by: Danny [=McKinnon=]

Emmy's four-year-old brother, who is imaginative and sometimes mischievous.

* AesopAmnesia: Despite having learned that being short has advantages in "A Tall Tale", he is back to being [[HeightAngst tired of his small size]] in "One Big Wish". After [[AttackOfThe50FootWhatever growing to gigantic size]], he learns again that being big isn't everything and wishes to return to his normal height.
* AffectionateNickname: Quetzal often refers to Max as "Maxito."
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: From time to time, he can be.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever: In "One Big Wish", he is [[HeightAngst upset at being smaller than Emmy and the dragon friends and unable to do certain things]]. He makes a wish on a wishing well to grow bigger, but doesn't specify a limit. This is what eventually results. He ends up even taller than the parents of the dragon friends, which is quite something, as those characters are so tall they're normally shown on-screen from about the middle of the belly down because they just wouldn't fit in a normal frame.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He learns this lesson, as well as the lesson that size doesn't matter, in "One Big Wish". Tired of being small, he finds a wishing well and makes a wish to be bigger. It works, but because he didn't specify a size limit, Max keeps getting bigger... and ''bigger''... ''and BIGGER''... ''AND'' '''BIGGER'''...
* BrattyHalfPint: Sometimes Max can be a bit of a pest, which is realistic given his age.
* CheerfulChild: For the most part, he is a cheerful boy.
* CuteGiant: He becomes this in "One Big Wish" when his wish to be bigger causes him to keep growing and growing.
* DragonRider: He rides on his best friend Ord.
* HeightAngst: Not only does he have this in "One Big Wish" (See AttackOfThe50FootWhatever above), but he also expresses his distaste for being short in "A Tall Tale". However, he does eventually learn that there are advantages to being short when he helps Eunice the Unicorn find her missing glasses.
* WouldHitAGirl: He punches Emmy in "No Hitter", but learns that it's wrong to hit people in general.
* VocalEvolution: His voice is slightly deeper in the third season due to his voice actor reaching puberty.

!!Enrique
[[quoteright:150:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enrique.png]]
-->Voiced by: Aida Ortega

Emmy and Max's six-year-old next-door neighbor.

* DragonRider: He gets Zak & Wheezie, much to their delight, because as a general rule they usually had nobody to ride them before, unless either Max and Emmy were feuding with Ord or Cassie respectively.
* GratuitousSpanish: Speaks like this.
* ReallyMovesAround: According to his [[AllThereInTheManual bio]] that was posted on the parents section of the show's official website, much of his general mopiness at times as well as his wariness of making new friends and trying new things came from the fact that he and his family had moved several times in his young life.
* SixthRanger: This brings the kids to a team of three.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Dragons]]
!!Ord
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ord.png]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/TyOlsson

The biggest of the dragon friends, who likes to eat and is sometimes afraid of things.

* AndCallHimGeorge[=/=]CuddleBug: To the chagrin of Max, Emmy and Enrique, who often have to endure Ord's big and ''very'' tight and almost suffocating hugs upon arrival in Dragon Land.
* BigEater: He has a lot of snacks in his pouch.
* BigGuy: Undeniably.
* CharacterDevelopment: Was at first shown to be a coward, but later became braver.
* CowardlyLion: Ord is shy, although he does get over his fears.
* FearOfThunder: Overcoming this was part of his CharacterDevelopment.
* ForgottenBirthday: "Ord's Unhappy Birthday", natch.
* GentleGiant: He's the biggest, but afraid of scary things like the dark.
* {{Invisibility}}: When he is afraid, he turns invisible.
* PersonalRainCloud: Whenever he's sad.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: "Hide and Can't Seek" has him have so much fun playing hide and seek that he wants to ''eat later''.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: He's the blue boy.
* SuperStrength / StoutStrength: He can throw a baseball so hard that it ''goes out of bounds in seconds''. While it is never revealed what happens when it lands, it could be implied that it can cause massive structural damage.

!!Cassie
[[quoteright:212:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cassie3.png]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/ChantalStrand

The smallest of the dragons who is shy, but smart.

* CuteLittleFangs
* TheCutie
* InnocentProdigy: She's very talented in multiple ways (for example, according to Zak, everyone knows she does "the best cartwheels in Dragon Land"). However, since she's a child, she gets upset sometimes and usually cries when she gets upset.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: Her siblings number in the ''seventies''!
* NiceGirl: To such a huge extent that one episode makes a point of this being ''her talent'', i.e. "being a good helper". If the topic of Cassie comes up in a song, it'll usually be about how sweet she is.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: She's the pink girl.
* ShorterMeansSmarter: She's the shortest of the dragons and TheSmartGirl.
* ShrinkingViolet: A literal ''Shrinking'' Violet, since she shrinks when upset.
* ShamefulShrinking: A literal ShrinkingViolet at times; she will do this when she's saddened or ashamed by something.
* SizeShifter: Involuntarily; she shrinks when she's very upset.
* [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Girl]]

!!Zak and Wheezie
[[quoteright:310:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zakandwheeize.png]]

A two-headed dragon; Zak is stubborn and worrisome, while Wheezie is peppy and hyper.

* ConjoinedTwins: They share a single body. [[spoiler: Although there was this one episode when they split up and became two separate dragons.]]
* MultipleHeadCase: Two heads, to be exact.
* PolarOppositeTwins: Wheezie is excited, while Zak is calm.
* SiblingSenioritySquabble: Wheezie is technically older than Zak, because her head hatched out of the egg first. As Zak retorts, "only by ''three little seconds''!"
* SiblingYinYang: Where Wheezie is free-spirited, Zak is the more serious one.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Justified, as they have no way to get separated, because they ''are'' a two-headed dragon.

!!!Zak
-->Voiced by: Creator/JasonMichas
* AfraidOfNeedles: Actually afraid of the doctor. In one episode, which becomes a problem when he ''needs'' a doctor to remove a rather large thorn from his foot. Apparently he fears the doctor because he thinks it'll hurt; he even ''pre-emptively reacts'' before the doctor even touches the thorn. So the doctor makes him grab his sister's hand and squeeze, so he doesn't even notice the thorn being removed until after it's out.
* ButtMonkey: Zak has his moments of bad luck.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "Take it easy, Wheezie!", as well as a distinctive "EEE-YOW!!!" whenever he gets hurt.
* DeadpanSnarker: Zak has plenty of snarky remarks.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Zak is sarcastic and grumpy but he does have a good heart.
* NeatFreak: To his credit, though, this is ''usually'' played as a virtue instead of a vice, except in one episode where the color in Dragonland disappears, and he ''approves'' of the change since it makes everything so neat and clean. Then there was the time he cleaned Wheezie's side of the room without her permission while she was blindfolded, where he made no effort to make sure her favorite possessions weren't swept up in the mix.
* NervousWreck: Being a huge ButtMonkey and unable to get away from Wheezie understandably has Zak constantly on edge.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Zak would be the "savvy guy" of the duo.

!!!Wheezie
-->Voiced by: Creator/KathleenBarr
* BigSisterBully: In their worst arguments, she springs this on Zak due to the aforementioned three-second headstart she had on Zak upon hatching.
* CharacterCatchphrase: "[=LOoOoOoOve=] it!", as well as her distinctive laugh.
* GenkiGirl: Wild, funny, and hyper.
%%* NoIndoorVoice
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Wheezie would be the "energetic girl" of the duo.

!!Quetzal
[[quoteright:328:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/qxy8ftyhjes5ohth3hbkpng.png]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/EliGabay

The Latino teacher of the School in the Sky; he's wise and the voice of reason for the gang.

* AlwaysIdenticalTwins: Quetzal and his brother Fernando (The only difference being Fernado's dragon badge is red instead of Quetzel's green).
* CoolOldGuy: He's an elderly dragon with a kind nature, plus he is very smart.
* GratuitousSpanish: Oddly enough, in the Mexican Spanish dub he speaks more like a typical Mexican old man, rather than trying to adapt this by using another language.
* MeaningfulName: Being from Mexico, Quetzal can easily be interpreted as the short version of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec god of wind, air, and ''learning''. The latter's most famous animal motif is that of the Aztec's version of a dragon, the Feathered Serpent.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: While he is taller than the young dragons, he's nowhere near the height of the adult dragons, whose whole bodies don't even fit in frame.
* NiceGuy: Wise, kind, and helpful.
* StealthMentor: To the Dragon kids. Quetzal is easily capable of solving many of the problems that come up in the episodes, but instead he uses those problems as a way to guide the young ones into learning lessons on their own.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others]]
!!Mungus
* {{Manchild}}: Despite looking like an adult giant and living by himself, he often behaves and talks like a child. He claims that he didn't know he was supposed to clean himself and breaks down crying when the gang accidentally ruins a dessert he made for his mommy's birthday.
