'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE13TheLegendOfTheDigiDestined The Legend of the DigiDestined]]"

An old man who lives in the Digital World, who actually admits to being made of data. Essentially, he's like a Digimon, but with none of the powers or attributes of them. Appears to run the place from behind the scenes, or at least used to...
----
* AncientKeeper: He has been in the Digital World since its creation and had the mission to protect the main Digimon's Digi-Eggs and the Crests.
* BigGood: The only person (or something) the children can trust in the Digital World and provides them with help in their mission, even if it's in the form of clues.
* EccentricMentor: Throughout ''Adventure'', his advice to the kids tends to be puzzling, full of tangents, idiosyncrasies and peculiar jokes and often barely helpful at all.
* EyesAlwaysShut: As an old man. He always has them shut... until Tai brings up the possibility of mixing different combinations of cards (see OOC is Serious Business below).
* FountainOfYouth: Azulongmon was able to restore Gennai to his prime in 02.
* IWasQuiteALooker: Compare both Gennai pictured above. He has a more lady fainting appearance during his youth.
* MentorArchetype: To the Digi-Destined. He tells the kids about the existence of the Crests gives some clues how to use them. He is very close to Izzy, as he is the expert in technology, and provides him with useful computer programs to understand the Digital World.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: Rather short guy, more or less at the height of Tai. When he was young, he was taller.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Dropping Gatomon's Digi-Egg and never bothering to look for it led to years of abuse and depression for the poor Digimon, not to mention her becoming an enemy of the very group she was meant to aid! He doesn't ever apologize for that screw-up, either.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When Tai suggests mixing up at random the Digimon cards, Gennai breaks his wise and only mildly eccentric image and strangles Tai while putting crazy eyes. This is because apparently the consequences for doing what Tai proposed would have been stuff of nightmares.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: In one flashback episode that explains the origins of the Digi-Destined, Piedmon is shown attacking the headquarters of Gennai's order. When Gennai attempts to fight back, Piedmon dodges around behind him and implants some kind of object into Gennai's back. This is never explained, nor is it mentioned again, although some suspect it to be the explanation for why Gennai looks like an old man in the first season ([[Literature/DigimonAdventure the novelization]] implies that it limited his mobility, however). This received a FandomNod in Izzy's track in ''2-and-a-half Year Break'', which has him briefly wonder what that object could have been... then immediately go back to talking about something else. You can almost ''hear'' the writers laughing at us.

'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE4BiyomonGetsFirepower Biyomon Gets Firepower]]"

[[WreathedInFlames A humanoid Digimon whose body is fully made of fire and flames]]. He is the guardian of Mihirashi Mountain and a good friend of the Yokomon from Gear Savannah who are dependent on the water from the mountain. One day a mysterious Black Gear gets introduced inside him and turns him crazy. Meramon comes down the mountain to attack the Yokomon village where the Chosen Children happen to be there too. Biyomon digivolves to Birdramon to protect Sora and frees him from the gear. He joins Mimi and Joe to fight the Dark Masters later in the series.
----
* AxCrazy: He becomes a complete pyromaniac after the Black Gear possesses him and runs like crazy towards the Yokomon village.
* TheBusCameBack: In two separate occasions:
** After Devimon is defeated he helps the Chosen Children by helping to build the raft they use to travel to Server Continent.
** In the Dark Masters arc he is helps the Chosen Children in the fight against the Evilmons during their final confrontation with Piemon.
* CreepyBlueEyes: When possessed by the Black Gear, [[http://wikimon.net/images/7/72/Meramon_head.png they become this, with a lack of glowing reflections]].
* ElementalPunch: On of his attacks is lobbing a ball of fire from his fist.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: Every time he is attacked by Biyomon's ''Spiral Twister'', also based on fire, he grows and grows to a large version of himself. Though Birdramon's attacks remained much more useful to free him.
* MouthStitchedShut: The only part of his body that is not made of fire. Like Wizardmon he can still talk despite the stitches.
* PlayingWithFire: Obviously. As his body is made of fire, his attacks rely entirely on the flame element.
* WreathedInFlames: His body is entirely burst into flames.

-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KiyoyukiYanada (JP), Michael Sorich (EN), Rafael Rivera (Latin America),Rais David Báscones(Spain, ''Adventure''), Rafael Calvo (Spain, ''Adventure 02'')\
'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE5KabuterimonsElectroShocker Kabuterimon's Electro Shocker]]"

The first Ultimate-level Digimon the children meet, he's an android in charge of a factory in File Island. Andromon gets brainwashed by one of Devimon's Black Gears and tries to kill the children but Kabuterimon attacks his right leg and the Digimon returns to his original personality. Later in the series, Andromon joins the children to fight the Dark Masters and becomes a useful ally against Machinedramon and Piedmon. After the final battle, everyone rejoins before the children part away from the Digital World and Andromon takes a last picture.

Andromon returns in ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' as the leader of a hi-tech city and is possessed by one of Digimon Emperor's Dark Rings until Kari reminds him in tears of his past as a friend and ally.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: The poor guy has this happen to him twice.
** When possessed by one of Devimon's Black Gears, he pursues Tai, Sora, and Joe through his factory and tries to kill them with his ''Lightning Sword''.
** He gets possessed again in ''Adventure 02'' by the Digimon Emperor but not for long, as the Dark Ring isn't very effective on Ultimate-level Digimon.
* ChekhovsGun: In the final episode, he takes a picture as a keepsake after a long battle against dark Digimon. In ''Adventure 02'', three years later, Andromon is brainwashed again but Kari reminds him of the photo he took and he's freed from Digimon Emperor's influence.
* {{Cyborg}}: He's a chiefly robotic android with organic components in his face, right leg, left thigh and left arm.
* GlowingMechanicalEyes: Whenever Andromon activates his night vision, his eyes glow in the dark with a clear turquoise light.
* HeroicSacrifice: He stops Piedmon from chasing the rest of the children to gain some time but is transformed into a toy keychain by the evil clown. Luckily he didn't have the same fate as other friendly Digimon and [=MagnaAngemon=] reverts him back.
* ImplacableMan: When brainwashed by the Black Gear, he is an unstoppable Ultimate Digimon, something the children must run from immediately and can't easily defeat at the start of the series.
* MoreDakka: His ''Gatling Attack'' launches two missiles from his chest, in a similar fashion that of [=MetalGreymon=], which contain said gatlings, gunning at its target.
* NightVisionGoggles: Not exactly goggles, but one of his robotic functions is seeing through the dark.
* SwordBeam: His ''Lightning Blade'' attack consists in Andromon throwing an energy slash by quickly [[ThisIsADrill spinning his right hand]]. In Japanese, the attack receives the proper name of ''Spiral Sword''. In German, his attack is called ''Spiralschwert'', which is a direct translation of ''Spiral Sword''

'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE6TogemonInToyTown Togemon in Toy Town]]"

The series' ComMons. Slug-like Digimon whose attacks rely on... [[ToiletHumor throwing poop]]. Though they are fairly neutral, they join a faction depending on the situation, and will even pull a HeroicSacrifice if someone they are fond of is in danger.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: To Mimi. They developed a taste for her like Sukamon and Chuumon.
* ComMons: Along with Bakemon, Gekomon and Otamamon they are the most numerous Digimon the children ever meet. They live everywhere.
* TheGoomba: In the PSP game. They're common, found in just about any location, and are incredibly easy to defeat.
* GreenIsGross: Defined by their appearance and ToiletHumor moves. How is throwing poop ''not'' gross?
* HeroicSacrifice: Twice. Once when Mimi was being attacked by the brainwashed Monzaemon. Second. [[spoiler:When they protected Kari from the very ''[[CurbStompBattle Machinedramon]]'', which at least prompted the little girl to give energy to Agumon.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: For the most part, Numemon can be territorial and extremely unpleasant. Once they take a shine to someone, like Mimi or Kari, they'll gladly take a Hearts Attack or [[spoiler:Giga Cannon]] for them.
* MadeASlave: After the rise of the Dark Masters, they work for Machinedramon's Metal Empire under the cruel watch of [=WaruMonzaemon=]. Luckily Kari appeared and [[SlaveLiberation freed them]].
** A few Numemon also worked for Kokatorimon apparently under this condition, with the bird controlling their food rations. They were glad to run away after he was defeated.
* ToiletHumor: One of the many things that they are very hated for are... their poop-based attacks.
* ZergRush: One Numemon alone is completely ineffectual. This is usually why they attack in groups.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Monzaemon]]
[[quoteright:172:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monzaemon_9.png]]

'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE6TogemonInToyTown Togemon in Toy Town]]"

A teddy bear Digimon, he is the mayor of Toy Town and rules the city as a place for toys that were abandoned by children. He gets possessed by a Black Gear and turns most of the children into brainwashed toys and imprisons the Digimon, except for Mimi and Palmon. Palmon digivolves to Togemon and frees him. He returns for making a raft for the children to cross the ocean to the Server Continent.
----
* BearsAreBadNews: When BrainwashedAndCrazy by the Black Gears, throwed eye beams at anyone and a dark variant of his ''Hearts Attack''. Inverted after the Black Gear is destroyed.
* CareBearStare: His real ''Hearts Attack'' are red heart bubbles that makes anyone feel happy and cheerful.
* PunnyName: His name is one on Chikamatsu Monzaemon, a famed Japanese puppeteer (Monzaemon himself is a puppet Digimon).
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Behold or you will suffer his EyeBeams.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He is the only ally from File Island who didn't make an appearance nor wasn't even mentioned. He was either killed by the Dark Masters, hid somewhere or became Machinedramon's [=WaruMonzaemon=]. Who knows.
** Though in ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'', his figure is seen returning to the Digital World when the Digimon regain their memories. So it's likely that he was in hiding before the reboot.
* {{Zipperiffic}}: He has a zip on his back and that was where the Black Gear was hidden.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Leomon]]
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leomon_2.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HiroakiHirata (JP), Creator/PaulStPeter (EN), Gabriel Pingarrón (Latin America), Creator/JuanCarlosLozano / Jorge Teixeira[[note]]Dark Masters Arc[[/note]] (Spain)\
'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE8EvilShowsHisFace Evil Shows His Face]]"

A (at first) friendly wild lion-like Digimon who fights for the weak and helps the kids, though without entirely trusting them. He appears again during the Dark Masters Arc as the powerful [=SaberLeomon=]. He dies protecting Mimi during a fight with [=MetalEtemon=], kickstarting the tradition of killing Leomon every time he shows up in a series. Leomon returns as an ally in Digimon Tri, only to die once again when Meicoomon goes crazy.

His digivolutions are as follows:
** '''Champion''': Leomon, his default form.
** '''Mega''': [=SaberLeomon=], a large quadrupedal lion with saber teeth.
----
* BackForTheDead: Returns later as [=SaberLeomon=], only to be killed in battle.
** [[spoiler: He comes back as their ally in Tri, only to be killed again.]]
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: ''Thrice'' in one arc!
* TheComicallySerious: He tries to keep a straight face when the digimon partners bug him about going to the festival in Tri.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler: Leomon is torn to shreds by a feral Meicoomon, after he had just saved her.]]
* CutenessOverload: In tri, Meicoomon has this effect in him when they others wanted to go to the festival.
* ElementalPunch: His Fist of the Beast King, throwing a flaming lion head at his target.
* FountainOfExpies: Leomon started a trend in the many Digimon series of {{Sacrificial Lion}}s in the franchise, including Leomon from ''Anime/DigimonTamers.''
* GentleGiant: Despite his intimidating appearance, he is a noble and kind warrior.
* HandBlast: How his Fist of the Beast King attack is fired.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal
* HeroicSacrifice: Though he [[spoiler:lives long enough to finish off [=MetalEtemon=]]].
* HeroicWillpower: In ''tri'', he feels the effects of the infection start to take him over, but shrugs it off.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:He is torn to shreds by Meicoomon in ''Tri'', and, because he was in the real world, he is as dead as Wizardmon. Thankfully, the reboot of the Digital World likely brought him back to life.]]
* KingOfBeasts: As a lion, and it is even the name of his main attack, Fist of the Beast King.
* LastBreathBullet: While mortally wounded himself, he inflicts a fatal blow on [=MetalEtemon=] after the latter's Chrome Digizoid skin had been broken open by Zudomon's Hammer Boomerang.
* MadnessMantra: While brainwashed by Devimon: "Destroy the Children!"
* MartyrWithoutACause: Becomes his recurring purpose in each show.
* MegaNeko: He is a tall anthropomorphic lion and his Mega evolution is a giant ''saber tooth'' large enough for four human-sized beings to ride comfortably.
* ReverseGrip: Wields his sword in this manner.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:Quite literally as well as fitting the character type. He was also the first in the franchise's long and dark RunningGag line of dead Leomon or evolutions thereof, good or evil, though it didn't definitively start until ''Anime/DigimonTamers''. However, he's not even the first recurring ally to kick the bucket; Wizardmon, Chuumon, Piximon and Whamon all beat him to the punch in this regard. He later comes back for Tri. and [[BackForTheDead is now a proper part of the tradition]].]]
* SurprisinglySuddenDeath: [[spoiler: In tri, after he had just helped Vikemon and Rosemon beat Imperialdramon, and gotten past his infection, assuring Meicoomon it is ok. In less than a second he has been torn to shreds and killed.]]
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:Does this for Mimi, saving her from [=MetalEtemon=]'s attack. In the novelization, he takes a blow from [=MetalSeadramon=] that was meant for the children.]]
* TooManyBelts: On his arms and waist.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Leomon doesn't wear a shirt.
* WorthyOpponent: To Ogremon.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ogremon]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ogremon_adventure.png]]
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HisaoEgawa (JP), Creator/BeauBillingslea (EN), Gustavo Melgarejo (Latin America), Creator/EugenioBarona (Spain)\
'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE8EvilShowsHisFace Evil Shows His Face]]"

Leomon's rival and foil, an uncouth brute with a sense of humour. As his name indicates, he resembles an ogre.

He joins up with Mimi and Joe during the Dark Masters Arc after he is beaten by [=MetalEtemon=].
----
* AdaptationalWimp: According to species lore, Ogremon are typically {{Blood Knight}}s that actively enjoy fighting stronger opponents. In fact, its trademark bone club is actually supposed to be the limb of a [[TheDreaded SkullGreymon]] that it defeated in combat. This Ogremon is more of a CombatPragmatist that frequently gets trounced in the Devimon arc, and becomes more of a CowardlyLion in the Dark Masters arc.
* AntagonistInMourning: He even says that if he did beat Leomon, he wouldn't know what to do with himself. [[spoiler:Then Leomon dies the same episode. Cue the waterworks from the goblin in leather. ''You were a good rival...'']]
* BadWithTheBone: He uses abone club in battle.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy:
** A notable aversion during the Devimon arc, as he was probably the only Digimon working for him willingly.
** In Tri, he is brainwashed this time, having become an [[TheCorruption infected digimon]].
* ButNowIMustGo: After the world is saved at the end of ''Adventure'', Ogremon decides to take his leave, claiming that a Virus type just doesn't belong with a group of Data and Vaccine types.
* CarryABigStick: A large mace made of bone is his weapon of choice.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: He has an Ogremon Honor Code in the final arc, while back in the first arc he was simply evil and willing to do anything to stop the children, even threaten to hurt a baby Digimon. It likely underwent some offscreen CharacterDevelopment.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Following his HeelFaceTurn.
* TheDragon: For Devimon in the File Island arc.
* DumbMuscle: He is powerful but doesn't have a great intelligence though he has some heart in the last arc.
* HandBlast: Its Pummel Whack is typically used in this fashion, similarly to Leomon's Fist of the Beast King.
* HandicappedBadass: Gets injured by Metal Etemon by the time Mimi and Joe encounter him again and spends the rest of the series with his non-club-bearing arm in a sling that they fashioned for him.
* HeelFaceTurn: During the Dark Masters arc. He helps the children to find Digimon who are against the tyranny of the Dark Masters.
* HonorBeforeReason: He only agrees to help Mimi and Joe because his own Honor Code says so, after they had saved him.
* ImageSong: "Ore wa Ogremon" ("I am Ogremon").
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Again, after his HeelFaceTurn. Joe [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded it]].
* NobleDemon: Gains an "honor code" in the last arc that sees him helping Joe and Mimi against Metal Etemon after they save his life and later fighting as part of their "army" in the FinalBattle against Piedmon.
* NotBrainwashed: He was the only one who served Devimon out of his own free will.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Even post HeelFaceTurn, he views Leomon as his sworn arch rival whom he alone is to defeat in battle or die trying. To the point that he's absolutely [[AntagonistInMourning distraught]] when Leomon succumbs to his injuries after defeating Metal Etemon.
* OurOgresAreHungrier: Cartoonishly evil, green-skinned, horned and almost demonic in appearance, in this case.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: One of the incarnations of his signature Pummel Whack.
* TheRival: He holds a legendary rivalry with Leomon that dominates both their lives.
* SlasherSmile: A massive and ''constant'' one adorns his face, meaning his eyes are where he does most of his emoting.* WorthyOpponent: Underneath his antagonism, he genuinely respects Leomon [[spoiler:snd sheds tears of sorrow when his old rival dies from a wound inflicted by [=MetalEtemon=]]].

'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE9SubzeroIcePunch Subzero Ice Punch!]]"

A Digimon with the shape of a snowman. Tai and Agumon meet him after being separated by Devimon, and is another of the victims of the Black Gears. They free him and he helps them to find Matt and Gabumon in the nearest island with his icy powers. After finding Matt and Gabumon, he fights against a rogue Mojyamon and helps them to get back to File Island. When Devimon is finally defeated he comes back to create a raft for the children to cross the ocean and reach the Server Continent.

Frigimon is later recruited by Joe, Mimi and Ogremon, among other Digimon, to fight the evil Dark Masters.
----
* AnIcePerson: His body and powers are made of freezing ice and snow. Tell that to a shivering Tai.
* BadassBoast: "I am the great Frigimon!" He says it even without being brainwashed.
* BearsAreBadNews: He's a vaguely bear-shaped snowman that starts of as an antagonist to Taichi and Agumon. Inverted after the Black Gear is destroyed, as he actively helps Taichi, Agumon, Yamato and Gabumon (and the Chosen Children as a whole when he [[TheBusCameBack comes back]]).
* TheBusCameBack: Twice:
** The first time, when the Chosen Children need a raft to travel through the ocean, he comes to help build one.
** During the Dark Masters arc he's recruited by Jou, Mimi and Ogremon to help fight against them, and in the final battle against Piemon he helps when the Children have to deal with the Evilmons.
* ElementalPunch: One of his attacks is lobbing a ball of ice from his fist, freezing whatever he hits.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: In the English dub, his voice is based on Jackie Vernon's portrayal of ''WesternAnimation/FrostyTheSnowman''.
* NoMouth: His most distinctive facial features are his button nose and his large innocent black eyes. He still talks without it.
* PokemonSpeak: While under the influence of the Black Gear, he seems to only be capable of saying his own name and [[CallingYourAttacks call his attacks]]. Completely averted after the Black Gear is destroyed.
* {{Snowlems}}: When possessed he temporally becomes Type III (hostile). But he is always Type I, a friendly snowman who will help you when needed and has a great knowledge of [[HealingHerb healing herbs]] to cure a cold, much to Gabumon's displeasure.

A Digimon completely covered in white fur that lives in the cold areas of File Island. He attacks Taichi, Yamato, Agumon and Gabumon while influenced by one of Devimon's Black Gears. After being fred from it's control he becomes an ally for the Chosen Children, coming back to them to help them build a raft to travel to Server Continent.
----
* AnIcePerson: Not to the extent of Yukidarumon, but one of Mojyamon's weapons is an ice spear.
* BadWithTheBone: Other than ice, he also uses a bone club in battle.
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti: Mojyamon is a vaguely ape-like creature covered in white fur.
* TheBusCameBack: When help is needed to build a raft so the Chosen Children can travel to Server Continent.
* EvilMakesYouMonstrous: Downplayed; While under the influence of Devimon's Black Gear, he grows in size to about Yukidarumon's size, but after it is destroyed, Mojyamon decreases in size until he becomes little taller than Agumon and Gabumon.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: He's absent during the Dark Masters arc and what happened to him is never explained.

Two Virus type Digimon always seen together. Chuumon is a Rookie level Digimon similar to a rat that serves as the brains for Sukamon a... well, poop-shaped Digimon. At first, they acted as robbers but then they touched Mimi's Digivice, becoming much better individuals.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: To poor Mimi again. She has some attraction magnet for the worst Digimon.
* AdaptedOut: The duo are nowhere to be seen in the novelization.
* AnimateInanimateObject: Sukamon is literally one big pile of shit.
* BackFromTheDead: They've come back by the time of ''02''.
* DisneyVillainDeath: In a non villain way. [[spoiler:Sukamon fell to his doom after the earth shattered because of the rise of the Dark Masters]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Chuumon received a fatal Trump Sword from Piedmon when the clown tried to kill Mimi.]]
* ImageSong: "Chichinpuipui Unchi Poipoi".
* PunchedAcrossTheRoom: PlayedForLaughs. In Season 2, they [[AbhorrentAdmirer hit on Mimi once more]], only for Mimi, who's completely fed up with them, to send them flying with one punch.
-->I'll take that as a "NO"!
* ThoseTwoGuys: Sukamon and Chuumon are almost always seen together. [[spoiler:Until the Dark Masters began their reign of terror and an earthquake shattered File Island. It caused Sukamon to fall into a black hole to his doom, leaving Chuumon all alone.]]
* ToiletHumor: As you probably can figure out, Sukamon's attacks are based on his shape more than any Digimon whose attacks are poop based.

A centaur Digimon. He is the guardian of an old temple's ruins and lives in its labyrinth. He becomes brainwashed by the Black Gears until Izzy and Mimi arrive after being separated by Devimon. Then Centarumon explains both about the meaning of their Digivices and their usefulness. Centarumon returns after Devimon's demise to help the children to create a raft to cross the ocean.

During the Dark Masters Arc, he explains to his old friend Gennai the prophecy about a greater evil crossing the Wall of Fire: Apocalymon, the true BigBad.
----
* AncientKeeper: He guards some ancient ruins in File Island related to the true mission of the Chosen Children and some dark prophecies.
* ArmCannon: His attack, ''Solar Ray'', consists on morphing his right hand into a cannon shape and firing it.
* CoolHelmet: He wears one AncientGrome style, that hides his face except for his [[{{Cyclops}} one red eye]].
* OurCentaursAreDifferent: He has quite a few {{Cyborg}} parts, wielding an ArmCannon on his right and propulsion tubes on his back. Also, some blue protuberances spawn all over his body.

Elecmon is the guardian of Primary Village, a place where baby-level Digimon are born and where deceased Digimon reincarnate again. He protects them with his life. When Devimon split File Island into smaller pieces of land, he became more overprotective than ever, and attacked Patamon and T.K. after their arrival. But T.K. came with a non-violent idea to finish his dispute with Patamon and they became friends.

When the Dark Masters rose to power, they destroyed Primary Village and Elecmon became depressed. It wasn't until Joe and Mimi arrived, to tell him to join the fight against the villains and restore the place. With their defeat, he happily returned to his old job in the new Digital World.
----
* BadassAdorable: Don't let his size and appearance confuse you, he is very protective to his precious babies and Digi-Eggs.
* CartoonCreature: A giant, red furball with bunny ears and electric powers. It almost resembles [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Pikachu]] in that regard.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: After Patamon defeated him in a tug of war [=/=] sumo match, Elecmon came to respect him.
* PapaWolf: Despite his small size and Rookie level, he will defend the baby Digimon from anyone. When Devimon broke File Island he became more papa wolf than ever.
* ShockAndAwe: As his MeaningfulName states, his powers rely on electricity. He opens his tail in peacock style and charges all his energy towards its target.

A gigantic sea animal Digimon the Digi-Destined first encountered on their way to the Continent of Server. [[BrainwashedAndCrazy Under the influence of a Black Gear]] he swallowed the gang, but once freed, becomes a powerful ally in the Net Ocean.

Even if he is a Champion level Digimon, he can stand against Ultimate level Digimon like Divermon and tackled [=MetalSeadramon=], a Mega level Dark Master, ''twice'' with great success!
----
* BackFromTheDead: He happily returns in ''Adventure 02''. Under the instruction of Joe, he saves most of the new [=DigiDestined=] from being trapped in an offshore oil rig, which was being attacked by a [=MegaSeadramon=]. This only applies in the dub, though, as it was a completely different Whamon or the original Japanese version however.
%%* BiggerOnTheInside
* CompositeCharacter: In the English dub, the Whamon from the first series is combined with the one from the sequel, making them the same character. In the original dub, they are different members of the same species.
* {{Cyborg}}: Has some metal tubes on his body, and Izzy is able to hook his laptop up to his central nervous system and display on-screen what Whamon sees.
%%* ExtremeOmnivore
* EyelessFace: He has no eyes, yet can see just fine.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: Metal Seadramon's [[spoiler:attack rips a hole through his skull, fatally injuring him]].
* GentleGiant: He's a big sweetheart and apologizes for any disturbance he caused, [[SeaMonster even though he doesn't look it]].
* HeroesGoneFishing: The Digi Destined take a break from battling and traveling in a tropical bay, fishing from the great whale's back.
* HeroicSacrifice: He repeatedly saves the kids from [=MetalSeadramon=], [[spoiler:though his efforts to protect them ultimately cost him his life]].
* LightningBruiser: Despite his large size, he can throw himself out of the water with great power and charge against enemies like [=MetalSeadramon=].
* LivingShip: He's a temporary home and sanctuary for the kids, protecting them from the ocean's pressure-crushing depths and various attacking water Digimon working for [=MetalSeadramon=].
* MakingASplash: Some of his attacks, like Tidal Wave.
* MonsterWhale: Subverted. He originally appears as a ravenous SeaMonster who swallows the heroes whole as the cross the Net Ocean, this is revealed to be only due to a Black Gear and he reverts to his original affable personality once its destoryed.
* MustMakeAmends: Even though it wasn't his fault, he feels terrible for smashing the children's raft and nearly digesting them. To make it up to them, he happily carries the gang across the ocean to Server.
* PunnyName: His name (and design) is derived from a real-life blue whale (''Balaenoptera musculus'').
* SenselessSacrifice: Possibly. He [[spoiler: rams into Metal Seadramon as the latter is about to swallow War Greymon whole and gets fatally blasted as a result]]; when you consider what War Greymon did to Metal Seadramon immediately after--[[spoiler: drilling straight through Metal Seadramon's body end-to-end]]--he might as well have just War Greymon be swallowed anyway.
* SwallowedWhole: Whamon was [[TheCorruption infected with a Black Gear]] and he swallowed the gang in his rampaging.
** He saves War Greymon from this fate at the jaws of Metal Seadramon, though the heroic effort [[spoiler: costs Whamon his life.]]

* HeroicSacrifice: Holds off the Dark Masters to let the kids escape. That's FOUR Megas (Ultimate Level) versus ONE Ultimate (Perfect Level). In the novelization, he's killed by Apocalymon.
* KillerRabbit: You wouldn't know it from looking at him, but he's an ''Ultimate-Level Digimon.''

* TrainingFromHell: Drops Tai and Agumon off in a cave and has everyone else wash his floors.
* VerbalTic: In the original version, he ends his sentences with "-pi." In the dub, he occasionally ends them with a quick "yep yep."
* YouShallNotPass: He stops the Dark Masters from chasing the children in his invisible sphere by facing them himself.

Amphibian Digimon that live and serve in a castle to its lord, [=ShogunGekomon=]. Otamamon is the Rookie-level tadpole, while Gekomon is the Champion level frog. When the lord went to sleep out of shock for listening to a much better song than his, the Gekomon and Otamamon began a music festival each other with disastrous results. One day, [=DemiDevimon=] told them a girl with a nice voice would arrive soon, so they welcomed Mimi as their savior and princess. But Mimi turned more and more selfish much to the Digimon's displeasure. Thanks to Joe and Tai's arrival, Mimi returned to herself and finally sang for the sake of Gekomon and Otamamon... but [=ShogunGekomon=] was very angry to be awakened and was put to sleep again.

When the Dark Masters rose to power, the Gekomon castle was destroyed with their lord being killed. All the servants scattered away without a home and hid from the villains until Mimi found them again and they joined the fight. After the defeat of the Dark Masters, they now live in an Edo Period type village in ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02''.

A minion of Myotismon who is more than he seems, and has strange powers even by Digimon standards. He's also an old friend of Gatomon's and her only real friend, and turns out to greatly influence the story.
----
* AlmostDeadGuy: [[spoiler:He keeps himself alive to ensure that he fulfills his destiny.]]
* BackFromTheDead: Sort of in the novelization. Hikari holds onto his staff, and his voice is the one to deliver the prophecy regarding Vamdemon's defeat, rather than Gennai like in the original anime; the prophecy is also much more explicit about what has to be done.
%%* BadassAdorable
* BadassCape: Complete with InstantRunes.
* BlackMage: With various forms of BlackMagic.
* CallingYourAttacks: Averts this when necessary.
* CatsAreMagic: An interesting variation, in that Gatomon is the cat associated with Wizardmon. It’s like a classic Wizard-Familiar relationship, except that they are just good friends.
%%* CoatHatMask
* CombatMedic: He healed Lilymon from petrification. When he and Gatomon fight Myotismon in the PSP game, he knows a move that can heal 1000 HP.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He has dark powers and is recruited by Myotismon as his minion. But he is really a good fellow to trust.
* DeadHatShot: [[spoiler:There is a lingering shot on Wizardmon's tattered hat when he [[TakingTheBullet takes the bullet]] for Kari and Gatomon]].
%%* DeadPersonConversation
* {{Determinator}}: Oh, yes indeed. See SquishyWizard below.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: His HeroicSacrifice.
* EccentricMentor: More so in the Japanese version.
* EnigmaticMinion: His reason to be in Myotismon's army was to be near Gatomon and help her, though the vampire didn't know it until the last moment.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: He’s a wizard. Go figure. He plays most of the tropes associated with the fantasy archetype incredibly straight. Also note that this trope is subverted in the episode [[spoiler: named after him. We don't find out what "Wizardmon's Gift" is until he sacrifices himself for Tailmon and Kari.]]
* FountainOfExpies: Wizardmon gets some references in further series, just like Leomon. This Wizardmon gets an {{Expy}} in the future thanks to [[Anime/DigimonFrontier Sorcerimon]], who looks exactly like him (except for a PaletteSwap of blue and white instead of his OrangeBlueContrast), is AnIcePerson and more of a WhiteMage, [[spoiler:sacrifices himself]] in a similar way, and even [[spoiler:returns as a ghost]] in a similar way. Another actual Wizardmon also shows up in ''Frontier'', but has different powers, is a MonsterOfTheWeek, and has very little personality resemblance with this one.
%%* {{Fireballs}}
* {{Foil}}: To Gatomon [[spoiler:and Myotismon.]] Gatomon is his female counterpart, who is more of a physical fighter than a magical one, and with a tough personality but cute looks, all of which are the inverse of Wizardmon's traits. [[spoiler: In the case of Myotismon, he's a blonde, tall humanoid and menacing magic user who is unusually durable and powerful, and has a larger skillset than the average digimon. He also is very callous and doesn't hesitate to kill his own henchmen if he feels like it. Meanwhile Wizardmon ''also'' has blonde hair, is a humanoid who uses magic and has a larger skillset compared to the average digimon, but he is of smaller size and very gentle. Ultimately, Wizardmon goes out of his way to help his friends and allies, culminating in him sacrificing himself for their sake. Their similarities and differences are further exacerbated when one realizes that in greater digimon lore, 'Myotismon' is [[DivergentCharacterEvolution one of the forms a Wizardmon is potentially able to digivolve into]].]]
* ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself: Like a few members of Myotismon's crew, Wizardmon's humanoid stature allowed him to be able to walk in broad daylight without drawing attention to himself. He poses as a street magician, [[StageMagician producing balloons and doves with sleight of hand.]]
* FrothyMugsOfWater: In the Japanese dub, he bribes [=DemiDevimon=] with a bottle of Sake. In the English dub, this becomes "a bottle of green chili sauce".
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: One of the first visual hints that he’s not actually evil. Goes well with his blue eyes.
* HealingHands: He's the one who manages to cure Lilymon when she's petrified by Myotismon.
* HeroicSacrifice: For Gatomon and Kari.
* HeroicSecondWind: He gets [[spoiler:''two'']] of these. [[spoiler:Notable in that it would take incredible speed for him to have been able to block the last, fatal attack with his body as a shield, after he was blasted several meters away and knocked down moments ago.]]
%%* HeroicWillpower
* InTheBack: A rare, heroic example when he manages to draw first blood against Myotismon in the final battle. Also counts as an inversion of BackstabBackfire.
* InstantRunes: He has a few in the inner parts of his BadassCape.
* IOweYouMyLife: Gatomon once saved him from starving to death and from his crushing loneliness. Ever since then, he became completely devoted to her.
* KilledOffForReal: Whilst ''Adventure 02'' reveals he can sometimes appear [[spoiler:as a ghost in the real world, he can never reconfigure in the DeathIsCheap manner other Digimon do due to dying in the real world.]]
* LonersAreFreaks: He was this before he met Gatomon, though he subverts the IneffectualLoner trope as well later on.
* MagiciansAreWizards: An interesting variation in that while he poses as a stage magician at first, [[ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself he still wears his full wizard outfit.]]
* MagicWand: Look closely and you'll see it's in the shape of a Digi-Egg, or a Tamagotchi. WordOfGod says it's a MythologyGag and a ShoutOut to the original Digital Monsters, which were a virtual pet much like a Tamagotchi.
%%* ManlyTears
* MartyrWithoutACause: See also {{Expy}}. [[spoiler:Generally he averts this by actually having something important to die for. Next to Leomon, however, he’s the Digimon most likely to sacrifice himself.]]
* TheMentor: [[spoiler:To Gatomon. He teaches her how to open her locked heart to the light.]]
* MoralityChain: For a long time, only his presence kept Gatomon from being a full-blooded villainess.
* MouthStitchedShut: His mouth is obscured by his coat, but the only time we see his mouth we discover that his lips are stitched together. It doesn't prevent him from eating or speaking, though.
* MysteriousPast: A CD Drama set before the series revealed that he's not a native of the Digital World, but we don't know more than that, like why he left his world or how he wound up the Digital World.
* MythologyGag: See MagicWand, {{Expy}} and MartyrWithoutACause. Also, in ''Anime/DigimonFrontier'', a Wizardmon and a Gatomon are seen together in a crowd in one episode, as a reference to the relationship of these characters in ''Adventure''.
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: Holy crap. No one can find the Eighth child? [[spoiler:Found her ten minutes ago.]] Can't get there soon enough? Let's fly you over there. No one can heal Lilymon from petrification? Give me a challenge. No one can harm Myotismon? First blood. [[spoiler:None of the superfast, superpowerful, Ultimate level Digimon can save Gatomon and Kari? Got there just in time.]] How did I do it? [[AWizardDidIt I'm magic]].
* NoOneShouldSurviveThat: [[spoiler:Myotismon fails to kill him with his most powerful spells, which would be certain death to most Digimon beyond Wizardmon's level. As Badass as Wizardmon is, though, it doesn't last forever.]]
* NoSelfBuffs: He could heal Lilymon, but apparently could not heal himself from the injuries caused by Myotismon.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:A heroic version. Myotismon's rage and fear upon seeing him alive said it all.]]
* OurGhostsAreDifferent: Evidence suggests he's [[spoiler:tied to the place where he died, unable to be reborn either because he died in the Real World, or because he's unable to move because he feels like he still has to protect Gatomon.]]
* OurSoulsAreDifferent: See OurGhostsAreDifferent above, though Wizardmon brings up the question on what a exactly Digimon's [[spoiler:soul]] could be.
%%* OccultDetective
%%* OrangeBlueContrast
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's about T.K.'s size! [[spoiler: But survived attacks that would OneHitKill ''higher level Digimon'', defied the arc's BigBad and was the first to harm him in the final battle, though Wizardmon was unarmed, and took ''incredible amounts of damage'' before dying like a man, complete with a FinalSpeech.]]
* PlatonicLifePartners: He and Gatomon were each other's only friends for a while. Needless to say they seemed quite close.
%%* PlayingWithFire
* PsychicLink: Gatomon thinks he can read her mind. Subverted, as it's really her ThinkingOutLoud.
* PsychicPowers: Specifically, levitation and mind-reading.
%%* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld
* TheRedMage: While most Digimon have one or two attacks and maybe one special ability, Wizardmon is arguably the most versatile character in the series. He could heal curses, fly unaided (or levitate, because he had various psychic powers), control the weather, dish out lightning and fire, and, in the English and Spanish dubs, read minds. Not to mention he was [[spoiler:incredibly hard to kill and could return as a ghost]]. Being based on Wizards as a fantasy concept, it's not a stretch to see he had a lot of different magical powers at his disposal. He gets even more powers in the ExpandedUniverse and in Anime/DigimonFrontier, including the ability to ''create copies of himself'' and produce ''[[IKnowWhatYouFear fear gas]]''. All of this on top of being a hunter, a spy, and an expert in stealth.
* {{Reincarnation}}: [[spoiler:Averted. Unlike other good Digimon, he isn't reborn.]]
* TheMole: [[spoiler:Proud of it, too!]]
--> '''Wizardmon:''' [[spoiler:How can I betray you when I was never on your side to begin with!?]]

* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler:The first major ally of the [=DigiDestined=] that bites it, before the Dark Masters arc cranks up the body count. Notably, he manages to beat [[TheyKilledKennyAgain Leomon]] to this trope, and unlike the other casualties, he's unable to come back.]]
* ScarilyCompetentTracker:
** He was the first one in Myotismon's crew to successfully locate the Eighth Child, then brought Gatomon to her. Take note, he was racing against an army of supernatural creatures while looking for the kid in ''Odaiba, Japan''. That’s not easy. He also manages to locate the true Crest of Light. {{Handwaved}} by the fact that AWizardDidIt.
** The Crest of Light was in Myotismon's coffin. It wasn't that amazing that he knew where it was one. Also technically Gatomon was the first one to pretty much figure out that [[spoiler:Kari]] was the Eighth child.
* ShockAndAwe: His element of choice. When fighting Vamdemon he calls up a thunderstorm.
* SinisterSilhouettes: His is clearly visible among Myotismon's army before they enter the portal to the human world. [[spoiler:He also gets another moment with this trope when he returns as a ghost in 02.]]
* SquishyWizard: [[spoiler:Subverted. He's small, but man, he took a ''lot'' of punishment before dying: surviving two OneHitKill attacks, being tossed into the ocean, blasted by magic into a wall by a superpowerful vampire and then using his body as a shield to block a third OneHitKill spell, and even lasting ''long enough after that to say his last words''. Also played straight in that he's a bit of a GlassCannon, but he manages to get up after he's been hit by something insanely powerful.]]
* StageMagician: He poses as one of these to avoid drawing attention to himself in the Real World. His disguise is much more effective than [=SkullMeramon=]'s creepy BadassLongcoat.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:Is killed when he takes an attack meant for Gatomon and Kari.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: To Gatomon and Gatomon alone. [[spoiler:Well, Kari too, by extension.]]
* WhiteMage: With some WhiteMagic, namely immortality (see WizardsLiveLonger, below), invulnerability, and healing powers.
* WhyWontYouDie: The outraged look on Myotismon's face in the final battle when he realized Wizardmon was still alive and powerful enough to hurt him was priceless. [[spoiler: Subverted when Wizardmon actually dies.]]
* WizardClassic: His English voice invokes this, sounding much older and wiser than the original Japanese laidback guy.
* {{Zipperiffic}}: Just look at his outfit!

In ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'', a different Gotsumon appears. The original ones are remembered when Matt and T.K. pass through the same store in Shibuya.

* ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself: Though it's August, not October. Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon's size make people into thinking they are two mischievous kids in costumes and because Shibuya is a place for fun it doesn't seem unusual for peasants. Bonus points for Pumpkinmon having a Jack-O'-Lantern for a head.
* GlowingEyes: Pumpkinmon's eyes shine from the inside of his carved pumpkin.
* GreenThumb: One of Pumpkinmon's attacks involves creating a giant pumpkin and throwing it at his opponent.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:When Myotismon appear and he knows that both are trying to protect their new friends, they face the vampire [[CurbStompBattle but not for long]]]].

* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler:If their story in the short ''The Shibuya-ish Heroic Saga of Pump and Gotsu'' is to be believed, they somehow survived their apparent death.]]
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Pumpkinmon might not look it, but it's the same level as [=WereGarurumon=] despite being Gotsumon's size, something made very clear when you fight them in the PSP game.
* PluckyComicRelief: For the episode. They try to play in a casino only for the security guard thinking they are children in disguise and gets them out. They also pick a young woman's nose piercing, try some new clothes and take some ice cream... without paying.
* PumpkinPerson: Pumpkinmon. He is a Halloween based Digimon, with a Jack O'Lantern as a head and his attack is called ''Trick 'r Treat''.
* RockMonster: Gotsumon, but much more affable of course.
* SacrificialLamb: [[spoiler:The duo are killed in their introduction, mainly serving to show how cruel Myotismon can get.]]
* ThoseTwoGuys: Always seen together to have fun, learn something and play tricks.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler:Myotismon gets tired of their fooling around, and when they try to protect Matt and T.K., he kills them offscreen]].

Two of Puppetmon's henchmen, Floramon and Deramon are supposed to be his playmates -- i.e., people for him to chase around and try to hurt when he gets bored -- but, understandably enough, feel little loyalty for him and willingly help the Digidestined infiltrate his mansion.
----
* AdaptedOut: They're absent in the {{Creator/Tokyopop}} manhua.
* TheDogBitesBack: Their job was to always be available for Puppetmon to hurt and terrify whenever he was bored. When the Digidestined show up to take him down, they betray him in a heartbeat, let them into his mansion and volunteer to take potshots at him with his own cannon when he returns home.
* HeelFaceTurn: They start out as Puppetmon's minions, but eagerly turn against their master and help the Digidestined infiltrate his mansion and fight against him.
* {{Planimal}}: Deramon is a penguin with a bush growing from his back.
* PlantPerson: Floramon is a humanoid flower with smaller flowers for hands.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: They're last seen fleeing deeper into Puppetmon's mansion to avoid their master, and it's not made clear if they managed to exit it before its transformation into a GiantMecha and ensuing destruction or, if they did, whether they got out of the forest zone before it disintegrated after Puppetmon's death. At any rate, they were most likely reborn after Apocalymon's defeat.

'''Debut:''' "[[Recap/DigimonAdventureE45TheUltimateClash The Ultimate Clash]]"

A being who wishes for balance in the Digital World, it consists of data like Digimon, but unlike them it is unable to take physical form.

In ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' it uses Kari as a conduit to tell the Digidestined why they were chosen and how the Digivices, Crests and the Partner Digimon were created. It may have also used her again in order to allow the tired Digimon to digivolve when in Machinedramon's sewers.

It uses her body again in ''tri'' to inform the partner Digimon that it will reboot the Digital World if Meicoomon and the infection aren't stopped.
----
* AllThereInTheManual: It was never named in ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'', but it was named in its novel adaption. It was later named in an animated work in ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri''. Even more supplementary materials have intertwined its story with Yggdrassil, the host computer for the Digital World introduced in the ''X-Evolution'' arc of the franchise which was later ret-conned into existing in the ''Adventures'' continuity: [[spoiler: Homeostasis is the secondary server and host computer for the Digital World, brought online because Yggdrassil was deemed too violent and unpredictable]].
* TheChooserOfTheOne: Or Chooser of the Many, in this case. It explains it helped select the Digidestined.
* DemonicPossession: While not a demonic entity, and it does do it for benevolent reasons, it does take control of Kari's body on two different occasions in order to do reveal important information, and after the possession ends, Kari is left unconscious. [[spoiler:''Loss'' reveals that it also did this to Maki to give the original [=DigiDestined=] the power to defeat the Dark Masters when the battle was going against their favor.]]
* GodsHandsAreTied: It says it had wanted to talk to the kids when they reached File Island, but since Kari wasn't there, it couldn't.
* AGodIAmNot: When asked by Sora, it denies being the god of the Digital World, [[spoiler:though Maki tells the Digimon to think of it as such in ''tri'', muddying the waters to whether it is or not.]]
* {{Hologram}}: Uses these in order to show the Digidestined why they were chosen, amongst other things.
* LightEmUp: In its first appearance, it creates a massive light that reverts [=WarGreymon=] and [=MetalGarurumon=] to Koromon and Tsunomon, and sends Puppetmon hurtling away from the treetop that he was watching them battle from.
* MrExposition: In its first appearance, it uses its exposition to end Tai and Matts fight.
* PowerGlows: Kari glows when possessed by it in ''tri'', and it may be what caused her to glow in Machinedramon's sewers. [[spoiler:Maki also glowed when it possessed her in the flasback at the start of ''Loss''.]]
* PowerNullifier: Reverts[=WarGreymon=] and [=MetalGarurumon=] back to Koromon and Tsunomon, in order to end their fight.
* SuperEmpowering: It may be what allowed Kari to do this in Machinedramon's sewers. [[spoiler:It also empowered four of the partner Digimon of the Original Chosen Children, turning them into the Four Holy Beasts.]]
* VoicesAreMental: In the dub, it speaks through Kari, but sounds much older than her.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler: Revealed to be this in ''tri''. It will do ''anything'' to protect the balance and harmony of both worlds from calamitous threats, even if it means sacrificing others to do so]].

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/original_digidestined.png]]

The Children's predecessors, they are mentioned by Gennai to have defeated an sealed away a great evil which came from the Wall of Fire, which turns out to be Apocalymon.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: Four of their partners' Perfect forms are from species who have been mostly known as antagonists within the franchise. But in ''tri.'', they were heroes.
* AdaptedOut: References to them are omitted in the manga adaptation.
* AstonishinglyAppropriateAppearance:
** The only image given in the series shows five shadowy figures resembling Tai, Yamato, Takeru, Sora and Koushirou. Indeed, ''tri'' reveals one of them wore goggles and other was a female with a haircut somewhat similar to Sora's.
** By either coincidence or intention, their Digimon partners were also thematically equivalent to the [[spoiler:Four Sacred Beasts they would become. They had a [=LoaderLiomon=] as the White Tiger, a Triceramon as the Azure Dragon, a Hippogriffomon as the Vermillion Sparrow and an Orochimon as the Black Tortoise (which is often portrayed in art as having snakelike attributes). Even their remnant member, a Megadramon, is significant for being a dragon, as the Chinese-exclusive "fifth" member of this order would be precisely the Yellow Dragon.]]
* TheChosenMany: If the flashback shown is an accurate representation, they were five instead of the more numerous eight (or nine, counting on Ken) who were chosen the next time. It is later confirmed in ''tri''. However, [[spoiler:only four of them were chosen to become the FourGods, with the fifth becoming a sacrifice to make it possible]].
* CrypticBackgroundReference: What their only appearance in the original series amounted to. [[Literature/DigimonAdventure The novelization]] implied they were partners to the Digimon who became the Four Holy Beasts, which ''tri.'' confirmed, but not many a Western fan would know this, since the novelizations were [[NoExportForYou only released in Japan]].
* EliteFour: [[spoiler:Except that they weren't meant to be four.]]
* TheFaceless: The flashback at ''tri.'' portraying the original five reveals who two of them are, but there aren't many details for the other three and you can barely see their faces. One of them, however, has never his face shown.
* FatBestFriend: Surprisingly enough, [[spoiler:Hippogriffomon/Zhuqiaomon]]'s partner was a fat boy.
* FiveManBand: Subverted, as [[spoiler:one of their Digimon made a HeroicSacrifice and left the rest to become a quartet]].
* TheFourGods: [[spoiler:They became the digimon counterpart to the Four Sacred Beasts of Chinese/Japanese folklore: Azulongmon, the Azure Dragon of the East; Zhuquiaomon, the Vermillion Bird of the South; Ebonwumon, the Black Tortoise of the North; and Baihumon, the White Tiger of the West. They only lack the pseudo-fifth member, who would have been Huanglongmon had he not been sacrified to win their battle.]]
* TheGhost: They were first mentioned in ''Adventure'' as just a CrypticBackgroundReference, and their identity or mere appearance were a mystery and a source of speculations for decades. [[spoiler:Two of them finally appeared in ''tri''.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Maki Himekawa's Megadramon was used as a human bomb to defeat the Dark Masters.]]
* HeroOfAnotherStory: A previous generation of Digidestined who drove Apocalymon back the first time he appeared.
* PrecursorHeroes: Played straight, down to the physical resemblance (their silhouettes in ''Adventure'' only, although a few traits still remain).
* SealedGoodInACan: [[spoiler:They defeated the Dark Masters with the help of a sacrifice, but the next time they faced off they were defeated in turn and locked away by them.]]
* TimeSkip: Played with. Gennai's narrative introduced them as an obscure legend, thus implying those children came and lived in the digital world at least centuries ago. However, it turned out that [[spoiler:they were merely a fifteen years or so behind the main characters, though it could be both as the Digital World still ran on YearInsideHourOutside rules.]]
* TwoGirlsToATeam: While their placeholder silhouettes show only Sora's silhouette and four of the boys, ''tri.'' reveals that they were three boys and two girls.

Matt and T.K.'s divorced father. He works at the Fuji TV station and is usually in the thick of whatever Digimon goings-on end up in the real world, either because he works for local television news or because his kids sucker him into it. He's a slightly distant parent, but he proves to be one of the most helpful adults, readily accepting of his kids' destiny and quick-thinking enough to help.
----
* ActionDad: He's one of the most proactive parents involved in the climax of the Myotismon arc, fighting off evil Digimon and helping out by driving the kids into battle.

* BadassNormal: He survived the attack from a group of Gizamon and even fought a few of them.
* ButtMonkey: There's a ghost haunting the [=TV=] station? He's there. The kids need a camping trip alibi? That too.
* IntrepidReporter: He and his team went to investigate the mysterious mist created by Myotismon, but had to avoid a [=DarkTyrannomon=] and were attacked by a group of Gizamon.

Matt and T.K.'s divorced mother, she is a newspaper journalist. She has a rough relationship with Matt since the divorce, but T.K. follows in her footsteps as a writer. She proves extremely valuable to the team, using her investigation and research skills to help them track down Oikawa and the Dark Spore children.

After the series, her ex-husband arranges for her and Sora's father to be the "Digimon experts," allowing the children some protection while still keeping the public informed.
----
* AdaptedOut: She's absent in the {{Creator/Tokyopop}} manhua.
* AmicableExes: They aren't on speaking terms much, but they're on civil terms regardless. Natsuko also privately (when no one's around, that is) addressed as her ex-husband "dear" while hoping for him to protect their children after she got separated from Takeru in the Odaiba arc.
* ButNotTooForeign: ''Adventure 02'' reveals she's half-French with her father named Michel.
* IntrepidReporter: Like her ex-husband, although she's a print journalist.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She looks like an adult female version of her elder son.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Her workload is pretty heavy, she apologizes for not being able to take her kid to school and in the Japanese version of [[Recap/DigimonAdventure02E7GuardianAngel Guardian Angel]], while the others had to go make excuses to their families for why they were getting home late, Takeru mentions his mom wasn't going to be home until later herself.

Tai and Kari's parents.
----
* AlcoholicParent: Susumu is clearly this in the pilot much to Yuko's dismay. Seems like he got over it by the time the series really begins. Well, your kids being in danger and nearly dying in a "terrorist attack" can probably make you snap out of it.
* CordonBleughChef: In the dub, Yuuko’s cooking includes spinach cookies, potato juice and beef jerky shakes.
-->"More juice, Izzy? I just squeezed some onions!"
* DemotedToExtra: Only have a brief cameo in the Tokyopop manga adaptation.
* TheGenericGuy: They are the most unremarkable of the lot, aside from the dub's gag of Mrs. Kamiya and her health food, but they don't have any familial drama or extreme personality quirks to set them apart. The iconic scene of them is Yuko sitting with Tai while he finishes a late supper while Kari and Susumu watch TV together.
* GoodParents: They are void of any negative quirks (one complicated past incident and somewhat unintentional neglect aside) and are held in high regard by their kids.
* LethalChef: In the dub, Yuuko makes questionable choices in food cooking. For one thing, she apparently never used flour to bake a cake before. Her recipes end up causing Izzy to have bathroom issues, whereas Koushiro in the original just had too much tea.
* MumLooksLikeASister: In ''Tri'', Yuko doesn't seem to age much compared to her appearance in the previous two seasons.
* OpenMindedParent: In ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri'', while the news is going crazy over the Digimon, Yuko is cheerfully hanging up the laundry and is sure that everyone will realize Agumon and Tailmon aren't going to cause trouble.
* ParentsAsPeople: In a flashback, when Kari gets sent to the emergency room because of Tai's disobedience, Yuko slaps him in the face out of anger and yells at him. It's not a case of AbusiveParent and she didn't mean anything beyond scolding him, and almost anyone with a mom and had made a big mistake in the past can attest to this being TruthInTelevision. On the other side, it was her who left a [[ParentalNeglect sick five-year-old home alone]], and while an argument can be made, that she had to work (probably due to Susumu's aforementioned alcohol problems), she didn't seem to learn from it, since in Episode 21, we learn she and Susumu did the exact same thing again, except this time it was definitely not unavoidable as they did it merely to visit one of the kids' grandparents.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Yuko looks like an adult version of her daughter.
* WhatTheHellHero: Yuko gives one to Tai in the form of yelling and slapping him in the face for making Kari play outside with him against what she and his father told him not to do.

Izzy's adoptive parents. Masami was his birth father's cousin. They were given the chance to adopt Izzy shortly after his parents and their own baby died. While they initially kept this a secret from him, they were forced to confront the idea of losing him during the mess in Odaiba and came clean shortly afterward. Both are very doting, and out of gratitude, Izzy goes well out of his way to be the "perfect" child.
----
* AdaptedOut: They're absent in the {{Creator/Tokyopop}} manhua.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Had a baby of their own, who died not long after being born.
* RunningGag: In ''Adventure 02'' she comes inside Izzy's room bringing some food right before the children could enter the Digital World.
* TeamMom: Yoshie is the mom among moms. When the other parents are all doing hard investigative work, she's desperate to help, too, and insists on making snacks.

* CampStraight: Keisuke is this in the Japanese original.
* CarFu: Keisuke TookALevelInBadass when he tried to drive a cart towards the menacing [=DarkTyrannomon=] to protect the women and his family. [[CurbStompBattle He tried.]]
* ChildrenRaiseYou: Mimi may be a {{cloudcuckoolander}}, but she's still the OnlySaneMan in her family.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Mimi is this for them.
* CoolShades: Mimi's father. He is never seen without them.
* HappilyMarried: Keisuke and Satoe are the only parents who love to show how happy they are as a couple and never seem to have any arguments.
* {{Housewife}}: Satoe is a perfect 1950s-style dedicated housewife taken to the extreme. She loves to see how her husband eats the food she made especially for him.
* MoodSwinger: Mimi's mother can go from crying her eyes out to smiling calmly, much like her daughter.
* TaremeEyes: Satoe. With such a cheerful and spoiled personality it fits her very much and she probably has the biggest pupils for a human character in the series. Just look at her reaction when she was told that her husband would be going with her instead of fighting Myotismon's minions.

Sora's cold but caring mother. She excels in ''ikebana'' (or Japanese flower arrangement) and wants her daughter to inherit her position.
----
* AdaptedOut: Nowhere to be seen in the manga adaptation.
* AllThereInTheManual: [[Literature/DigimonAdventure The novelization]] mentions that the flower business has been a part of her family for generations and that Haruhiko, Sora's father, married into the family.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Like the rest of the Odaiba population, she was put to sleep by [=DemiDevimon=] to serve as food for [=VenomMyotismon=] and awoke with the rest calling for [[MadnessMantra "master Myotismon"]].
* CannotSpitItOut: The reason for her strained relationship with her daughter Sora traces back to the fact that she has a very hard time expressing how much she loves Sora. Once they make amends, she begins to be more open with her feelings.
* EducationMama: She wants Sora to study ''ikebana'', even though her daughter prefers to be tomboyish and play soccer.
* HartmanHips: Being more evident in this character design sketch, [[https://digimon.fandom.com/wiki/Toshiko_Takenouchi she does have pretty wide hips that her pedal pusher pants cling to]].
* MamaBear: Along with Biyomon, Toshiko went to search for Sora after Myotismon's mist rises and fought some Bakemon.
* TheStoic: She doesn't seem to reveal many emotions and remains a strict person. But [[NotSoStoic a genuine one]] was when Biyomon fought the Bakemon invaders and Toshiko freaked out because she thought the bird Digimon was a plush.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: What she actually is, once she and Sora understand each other better. [[spoiler: Already implied before she formally appeared: Sora had thought that her mom was too severe on her when she was injured, but then she realized that [[AngerBornOfWorry she was worried]].]]
* TsurimeEyes: Fits a lot with her cold personality and contrasts with Sora's cheerful TaremeEyes.
* YamatoNadeshiko: She is a dedicated housewife, but remains quite cold and dignified. She's seen with her hair in a PrimAndProperBun ''and'' wearing [[KimonoIsTraditional a kimono]] in Sora's flashbacks.

Joe's two older brothers, who are combined into one character for the English dub.

Eldest brother Shin appears in season one. He is also studying medicine in the university to become a doctor like his father but has different plans for the future. With that philosophy of life he teaches Joe to be himself and follow his own path.

Middle brother Shuu appears in season two. While he originally went to college to be a doctor, too, he took a class with Sora's father and ended up changing his major. He drives the kids around during the final episodes and becomes a researcher with Sora's father and Izzy.

While Shin is much calmer and more laid back than Joe, Shuu shares more than few of his personality quirks.
----
* AdaptedOut: Both brothers are excised from the Tokyopop manhua.
* CompositeCharacter: The English dub combines the two brothers into one.
* CoolBigBro: Shin definitely has a geek-chic vibe, is mostly chill, and cares a lot about his little brother's happiness, while Shuu is nice enough to drive his brother's friends all around Tokyo.
* TheMedic: Shin looks after the people knocked out by Myotis/Vamdemon.
* OfficialCouple: Shuu and Davis's sister, Jun. In the CD dramas, they're dating.

!!Dr. and Mrs. Kido

Parents of Joe, Shin, and Shuu. They don't have any scenes until the ''Michi e no Armor Shinka'' ''RadioDrama'', and aren't seen until ''Anime/DigimonAdventureTri: Determination.'' Still, Dr. Kido's presence is definitely ''felt'', as the main source of conflict for Joe. Being himself a doctor, he wanted the same for all three of his sons, but none of them were entirely happy with that. Once he's made to understand that, he's reserved, but supportive.
----
* EducationMama: Dr. Kido in the backstory, and Mrs. Kido in ''tri.''
* EmptyNest: In ''2 and a Half Year Break'', Joe says his mom likes when Gomamon visits because she always ends up cooking too much food, now that her two older sons have moved out.
* TheGhost: Dr. Kido until ''Michi e no Armor Shinka,'' while Mrs. Kido's existence is merely ''inferred'' up until that point, though she is mentioned a couple of times in the dub. We don't actually see them in animation until ''tri.''
* InvisibleParents: Despite being mentioned several times in the first two seasons, it takes until ''tri.'' for them to put in a physical appearance.
* MumLooksLikeASister: Mrs. Kido looks about mid-thirties, which is pushing it for someone who has an eighteen-year-old son... let alone two other sons well into their twenties by then.
