[[folder:Sharon Spitz]]
[[quoteright:236:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sharon2.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/AliciaSilverstone (Seasons 1&2), Creator/StaceyDePass (Season 3); Ilona Brokowski (German dub)
The lead character of the series. A socially awkward girl whose braces complicate things even more (especially since they got affected when a lighting storm hit while they were being fitted on her). Also a stout vegetarian, animal lover and animal activist.
----
* ACupAngst: She is constantly and excessively insecure about her chest, being completely flat-chested. So much so in fact that she tried on one episode to increase her breast size with a pneumatic pump.
* AlliterativeName: '''S'''haron '''S'''pitz.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Genesis. [[spoiler: Until it's revealed that Genesis feels the same way about her.]]
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: Her usual outfit exposes her stomach, to characterize her as a teenage girl with typical girly interests.
* BetterAsFriends: She and Connor try dating early on, before realizing that they vastly prefer their dynamic as close friends than as a couple.
* BracesOfOrthodonticOverkill: Subverted; Sharon got off relatively easy with her braces despite the side effects they bring.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Connor, her neighbour and friend since they were babies.
* CommonalityConnection: While they were both crushing on each other before that, one of the things that starts the spark in her and Alden's relationship is the realization that they both keep money in their shoes.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Sharon is known to be a clumsy, ditzy girl and would usually end up embarrassing herself one way or the next.
* DubNameChange: In the Quebecois dub, her first name was changed to Charlotte.
* FormerFriendOfAlphaBitch: Sharon and Nina were friends as little girls, but one day someone destroyed all of Nina's dolls and she blamed Sharon for it (despite having no proof). In the third season, Nina learned the truth and tries reconciling with Sharon.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She loves animals, so much so that her family has three cats and two dogs.
* ISophagus: Her braces tend to affect the environment around her from time to time including messing with lockers, electronics, water fountains, even sometimes receiving radio signals in her mouth.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Sharon makes mistakes most teenage girls make and she tends to be bratty and easily irritated, but she is not a bad person.
%%* KindheartedCatLover: She owns three of them.
* KindlyVet: In one episode, Sharon did work experience at an animal hospital and broke down in tears when a rabbit she tried to help save didn't make it.
* TheKlutz: Sharon gets kicked out of a ballet class in one episode because she's a terrible dancer. When she tries baton twirling in Alden's music video, she accidentally breaks a window.
* KnowNothingKnowItAll: Especially when it comes to activism. She is very stubborn in insisting that her reasons are the right one and can never see things from the other person's POV most of the time. Though its this attitude that powers most of the conflicts she gets into. More often then not, she has to learn the hard way you can't always get what you want.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Her relationship with Griffin, due to her father dating his mother. He describes her as his "quasi-little sister... whatever."
%% * LovableAlphaBitch: Interestingly, Sharon occasionally slips into this.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: She's the middle child of three kids.
* NaiveEverygirl: Sharon wants everything a teenage girl wants: to be popular, get good grades, hang out with friends, and have a boyfriend. She sometimes does get into trouble and messes up like every other teen, but she always learns from her mistakes and sets things right in the end, no matter what the situation.
* ObliviousToLove: In the final episode, Sharon is oblivious to Alden's feelings for her to the point where it's ridiculous.
* OfficialCouple: With Alden. They initially become an official romantic couple when Alden ended up asking her out, but, one year later, Alden ended things due to Sharon's jealousy (although they agreed to stay JustFriends). In the series finale, Alden realizes that he still has feelings for Sharon, and the two ultimately end up getting back together.
* OnlyFriend: Griffin describes her as being his only real friend in Elkford.
* PubescentBraces: The source of the show's title and her EmbarrassingNickname.
* PunnyName: Get it? [[DontExplainTheJoke Sharing spits]]?
* ShockAndAwe: Sharon's braces somehow got electromagnetically charged by the lightning storm happening outside while she was at the orthodontist's office. Her braces do everything from act like magnets to open locks to make electronic devices go haywire.
* SingleTargetSexuality: As Maria once put it, "you're not boy-crazy, you're just... ''Alden''-crazy". None of her other relationships or love interests last for more than one episode.
* SoapBoxSadie: A very stubborn one at that. She is a vegetarian and animal rights activist.
* {{Squee}}: She tends to do this when she's excited.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Sharon's face shape, eye color, and hairstyle came from her mother, while her blonde hair came from her father.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Maria's Tomboy.
* TrueBlueFemininity: She wears a light blue shirt and dark blue pants in the first season, and is quite the teen girl stereotype.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Maria Wong]]
[[quoteright:320:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maria11.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MarnieMcPhail

Sharon's best friend and all around tomboy who's really into sports (especially extreme sports).
----
* GarageBand: She becomes the manager of Alden and co.'s.
* HotForTeacher: Did this with a substitute in "Teacher's Pet".
* LettingHerHairDown: From time to time--and she looks very cute too.
* OfficialCouple: With Brock by season three, though it takes a while as she initially just saw him as too immature. But she slowly starts to warm up to him around the second season.
* PassionateSportsGirl: She loves sports, especially extreme sports, and is always trying to get her friends to join her, but Sharon and Connor don't share Maria's thirst for danger or competitive streak.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Sharon's Girly Girl.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Brock. She mostly drops it by the time she starts seeing him in a romantic light, but there's still a bit of it even while they're dating.
* VetinariJobSecurity: Mangled Metal (and Sharon) learns the hard way how much they need Maria to function when she takes a break for a day due a lack of proper rest.
* WiseBeyondHerYears: With a few exceptions, she's usually the voice of reason for Sharon.

[[folder:Connor [=MacKenzie=]]]
[[quoteright:124:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/connor.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/PeterOldring

The initial male friend of Sharon's, who she's known virtually her entire life. Very much a nerd with every allergy under the sun but often there for his friends when needed.
----
* BeautifulAllAlong: When not sneezing and with a bit of a hairstyle change, he's pretty attractive as Sharon notes.
* BetterAsFriends: What he and Sharon decide early on the series, after a horrendously awkward attempt at dating.
%% * ChildhoodFriends: With Sharon.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: "The Pickford Project" and "Second Thoughts" highlight how he only really knows Alden and Brock through the larger group, which makes one-on-one interactions a bit awkward (at least from his perspective).
* {{Hypochondria}}: Mostly in the first season, but dials it down later.
* IOweYouMyLife: When he sees Alyson feeling sad and alone, he makes an effort to befriend her because her father saved his life. He figures he at least owes it to the guy to try to cheer up his daughter.
* NiceGuy: Out of the main cast, he's the least likely to do something wrong or say something mean, even if he can be sarcastic at times. A key difference between him and Sharon in situations that have them call out someone is that he's never disrespectful about it and merely states the facts.
* OfficialCouple: With Alyson in season two.
* OutOfFocus: Doesn't pop up much in season three.
* PlatonicLifePartners: He has this with Sharon particularly on his end, as he states once that she's the most meaningful person in his life after his mom and would put her above a potential girlfriend--at the same time that they're BetterAsFriends.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alden Jones]]
[[quoteright:287:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alden.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/VinceCorazza

Sharon's crush and eventually her boyfriend. A nice guy who dreams of becoming a musician.
----
* CommonalityConnection: He and Sharon both keep money in their shoes, and the revelation of this is what helps kick off their relationship.
* GarageBand: He, Brock, and Carmen are the members of one with some fame.
* GreenEyedMonster: Although he doesn't admit he still has feelings for Sharon until the series finale, in several episodes late in the third season, after he and Marlo have broken up, he shows uncharacteristic hostility toward any guy Sharon shows an interest in.
* NiceGuy: He is very friendly, helpful and laid back most of the time and acts like a good boyfriend to Sharon. That said, he has his limits and he tends to be snarky.
* OfficialCouple: With Sharon for most of the second season and the end of the third (they get back together in the series finale).
* SecondActBreakup: Due to Sharon's actions in ''Dear Alden'', despite her efforts to fix the problem.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: Aside from an understandable bit of awkwardness, he's much more understanding about Sharon getting her period than one would expect a male of his age to be. It probably helps that he has three older sisters and likely understands the situation better.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Brock Leighton]]
[[quoteright:170:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brock.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/DanielDeSanto

Alden's best friend, a guy who tries to act cooler then he really is.
----
* CasanovaWannabe: He worked really hard at his "ladies' man" persona, but was not fooling anyone--especially not Maria.
* ClassClown: He is the kind of guy who is always trying to get attention.
* CoolShades: Wears a pair.
* GarageBand: He, Alden, and Carmen have one.
* InsecureLoveInterest: He gets increasingly antsy whenever Maria gushes over how romantic Marcello is with Sharon, due to this being his first relationship and him having no idea how to be like that.
* KindheartedCatLover: He loves cats and they tend to bring out his softer side. He even helps Sharon organize a protest against a cosmetics company that used animal testing to test their products’ toxicity because cats were one of the animals they used. It's one of the first things that begins to overturn Maria's initial opinion of him.
* LastNameBasis: Usually calls Sharon (and sometimes Maria) by their last names.
* OfficialCouple: With Maria, though it takes much to try and woo her. He finally succeeds in the second season.
* WellDoneSonGuy: His father is very much the "only academics matter" type and looks down on extracurricular activities, prompting Brock to want to impress him with the play he's directing to prove that it ''isn't'' worthless.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: There are a few episodes where he can be rather antagonistic.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nina Harper]]
[[quoteright:323:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nina21.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KatieGriffin

Sharon's ex-best friend and now rival on the school grounds.
----
* AcademicAlphaBitch: Combined with AlphaBitch--Nina's the most popular girl in her grade, and contrary to [[PopularIsDumb popular kids being portrayed as unintelligent,]] Nina's one of the top students at her school and often brags about being a straight-A student and wants to make sure everyone knows how smart she is.
* DisproportionateRetribution: The main reason that Sharon and Nina stopped being friends was because, one time when they were around seven and they were playing together at Nina's house, Nina saw that someone had ripped all the heads off of her beloved fashion dolls. Despite never having any evidence to prove it, Nina assumed that Sharon was the culprit and continued nursing a grudge against her for it even well into their freshman year of high school. It wasn't until more than halfway through the third season that both Nina and Sharon learned that the real culprit was Petra, a mean cousin of Nina's from England. And Petra doesn't even give any reason on why she did it other than simply stating, "I was a nasty little brat wasn't I."
* EmbarrassingNickname: Mr. Harper's nickname for Nina is "Popo," and he seems unaware (or possibly ignores the fact) that she finds it embarrassing.
* EvilRedhead: She's got long red hair, but isn't a natural redhead--in a flashback to when she and Sharon were in grade school, it's revealed that Nina's natural hair color is actually brown.
* FuzzTherapy: She spends "Lorenza" looking for a dog to adopt; everyone assumes it's just for selfish reasons, but it's really because her parents are always away and the house is otherwise empty. Sharon ends up letting her keep the eponymous dog since they get along with each other so well.
* GirlPosse: Gets a new one after Alyson leaves her in ''Triangles''.
* HeelFaceTurn: Once the truth of the doll incident is known. However...
* LovableAlphaBitch: Through most of the series, she does occasionally help Sharon and shows some genuine kindness, showing she still somewhat cares for the friendship they once had. She also turns out to be a doting pet owner even to the [[PetTheDog mangy dog that she initially didn't want]] and genuinely loves Griffin, her ultimate boyfriend, despite Sharon initially being convinced otherwise.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Has one in "Clean Slate" after she discovers it was her cousin, not Sharon, who broke all her dolls, meaning she spent years tormenting her former friend over nothing.
* NasalTrauma: In "Nina's Nose Job", she receives an injury to her nose, which Sharon assumes was the result of cosmetic surgery, a rumor that ends up spreading throughout the school. It later turns out the injury was actually due to Nina accidentally jamming her lipstick tube up her nostril.
* NoseShove: Was the victim of this in "Nina's Nose Job", accidentally jamming her lipstick tube up her nostril.
* NotQuiteTheRightThing: After finding out the truth of the doll incident, Nina makes a genuine attempt to patch things up with Sharon. However, this entails cutting her off from her other friends, forcing her to drop all her plans to hang out with her, and pressuring her into joining the cheerleading squad, even after Sharon makes clear she doesn't want to, making her actions come off more as a selfish attempt to ease her own guilt rather than actually caring about rekindling their bond. In the end, after Sharon chooses to hang out with her other friends, Nina accuses her of being ungrateful and breaks off their "friendship" once more.
* OutOfFocus: She has less apperances in Season 3 than the first 2.
* PairTheSpares: With Griffin, the son of Sharon's dad's girlfriend, Lauren.
* ParentalObliviousness: [[ParentalNeglect To the point of negligence]]--while Nina's parents really do love her and also clearly spoil her a lot, they're pretty lackluster when it comes to parenting skills. For example:
** Mr. and Mrs. Harper are often away on business trips and are generally too focused on work to spend any actual "quality" time with her--in fact, from what can be gathered, the domestic staff that work for the Harpers seem to look after Nina more often than her own parents do.
** Even though Sharon and Nina stopped being friends when they were around seven and haven't really hung out since then, Mr. and Mrs. Harper (who're both shown to be very fond of Sharon) assume that the two girls are still friends.
* RichBitch: Nina comes from a wealthy family and is said to be one of the richest kids in school.
* StepfordSmiler: While she flaunts her wealth, fashion and social status, Nina's life isn't as a perfect as she likes to make people think it is, for a few reasons --
** 1.) Aside from her parents being oblivious to the point of negligence and being fond of Sharon (who they assume is still friends with Nina), they're also shown to be really embarrassing (see EmbarrassingNickname above).
** 2.) Despite her wealth/fashion/high social status, most of Nina's schoolmates really don't seem to like or trust her.
** 3.) Tying into the previous example, Nina seems to have little to no friends outside of Alyson (until they stopped being friends in ''Triangles''), Griffin (her boyfriend since ''Griffin's Girl''), Lanie and Claire (Lanie and Claire being Nina's GirlPosse since Alyson left her).
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: By the time Nina finally learned the truth about the doll incident, she and Sharon were teenaged high school students who haven't hung out together since they were around seven or so, and their interests have obviously changed ''significantly'' as they've gotten older and more mature (both physically and mentally). And in the end, Sharon realizes that she'd much rather be friends with people like Maria, Connor, Alyson and Brock, [[WeWantOurJerkBack and figures that she and Nina are probably better off as enemies than friends]]. ''However'', the series implies that Sharon and Nina will eventually become friends again--their relationship just needs some more time to regrow.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Shares this with both Sharon and Alyson.
** Sharon and Nina were friends as little kids, but the above-mentioned doll incident ultimately ended their friendship (although the series implies that the two will eventually become friends again).
** Alyson was Nina's BFF from the beginning of the series up until the episode ''Triangles'', which is the episode where Alyson and Connor became a couple (and when Alyson ultimately becomes friends with Sharon and Maria).
* VillainousRescue: Rescues Sharon from going over a waterfall in "The Pickford Project".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alyson Malitski]]
[[quoteright:214:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alyson5.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/EmilyHampshire

Nina's friend throughout most of the first season. She leaves her in the second season and becomes Connor's girlfriend as well becoming friends with Sharon and Maria.
----
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: She takes to Connor in part because he offers her some friendly compassion after Nina kept barking orders at her.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Increasingly shown to be expected to tend to Nina's every need, be it her schemes against Sharon or various activities. "Triangles" is when it reaches a breaking point.
* BetaBitch: {{Subverted|Trope}}--while Alyson was Nina's second-in-command back when they were still friends, she was never truly mean or cruel to people. Alyson just did whatever Nina told her to do because, like a lot of teenagers, she just wants to fit in and be noticed.
* TheDitz: A little simple minded, [[DownplayedTrope but she's not unintelligent]].
* FormerFriendOfAlphaBitch: Becomes this to Nina after ''Triangles''.
* HeelFaceTurn: When she realizes that she has feelings for Connor and Nina makes her choose between her or him (and, by extension, his friends).
* HiddenDepths: A backup career of hers is to be a heart surgeon. She also coaches a children's soccer league, has taken piano lessons since she was six and is also really good at fencing.
* InnocentBetaBitch: Was never truly mean to Sharon and the others and only did bad stuff because of her "friendship" with Nina. She even manages to find some common ground with Sharon, when they discover that they are both proponent of animal rights and share a common hatred for gym class. Later on, she actually ends her friendship with Nina after she forces her to choose between her or Connor who she started to date.
* NiceGirl: Post HeelFaceTurn, she's usually rather sweet. Even beforehand, she really wasn't mean and usually came off as being fairly nice, such as bonding with Sharon over their common hatred for gym class in the episode where Sharon gets her first period.
* OfficialCouple: With Connor from "Triangles" and onwards.
* OutOfFocus: Just like her boyfriend and former-BFF, she doesn't pop up much in later episodes.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Early on, Sharon notes that Connor has a lot of qualities that are excellent boyfriend material, and ultimately, this seems to be what draws Alyson to him.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Her demeanor can make her come off as a stereotypical ValleyGirl, but, particularly after her HeelFaceTurn, she's shown herself to be one of the more sensible and level-headed characters. More than once she's managed to advise Sharon and talk sense into her.
* StepfordSmiler: "Triangles" reveals she gets depressed by Nina constantly telling her what to do. She also says she's been having nightmares about being trapped in a fire.
* VerbalTic: Even though the show is a Canadian series that takes place in Canada, Alyson talks like your typical American ValleyGirl, such as using the words "like" and "totally" a lot.

->Voiced by: Creator/DanPetronijevic
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/adamspitz.jpg]]

Sharon's older brother, a seventeen-year-old who had a growth spurt and appears to be around 7 feet tall.
----
* AloofBigBrother: On occasion, but otherwise he'll help his siblings when he can.
* BigBrotherInstinct: On occasion, most notably in "Teacher's Pet" when he thinks a teacher is hitting on Sharon.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: He practically ripped a door off its hinges once.
* OfficialCouple: With Hannah, his next-door neighbor.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Josh Spitz]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MichaelCera
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joshspitz.jpg]]

Sharon and Adam's younger brother, a music prodigy but still in his growing phase.
----
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: While still very much a kid, it's not uncommon for him to be the OnlySaneMan among the Spitz siblings.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: He can be this at times, but most of the time, he and his siblings get along pretty well.
* ChildProdigy: A music prodigy--especially when it comes to the piano.
* HiddenDepths: Surprisingly good at handling Q & A advice columns as one episode had him helping Sharon with one for her school newspaper, going under the alias "Miss Understanding." Near the end of the episode, Sharon quits the position but allows Josh to continue on in her place.
* PrecociousCrush: In an episode from the third season, he develops a crush on Alyson and thinks she might feel the same way (he gets over it though).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Helen Spitz]]
-->Voiced by: Tamara Bernier
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/helen27sphonewl.jpg]]

The mother of the Spitz children, and a divorced single mother who works as a psychologist.
----
* AmicableExes: She and her ex-husband, Richard, are still on good terms--saying they're "friends" might be a bit of a stretch, but they're at least still civil to each other.
* BarelyChangedDubName: The Quebecois dub adjusts the spelling of her name to Hélène.
* GoodParents: To the point where Sharon's determined to be an excellent caretaker to her baby doll in one episode on account of her mother doing so well with three children.
* ParentsAsPeople: She's still definitely a good parent and Sharon loves her dearly, but there are times when her work gets in the way, or when she's understandably frustrated by Sharon's behaviour (e.g. relenting and agreeing to Sharon getting a tattoo because she's utterly exhausted from her failures in convincing Sharon otherwise).
* ParentWithNewParamour: It takes a while for her kids to warm up to David, her new boyfriend.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: David's appeal to Helen is his kindness and silly nature.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Richard Spitz]]
-->Voiced by: John Robinson
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/richard01.jpg]]

The father of the Spitz children, but divorced from Helen for the past couple of years. He works as a musician.
----
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: What he becomes when Sharon discovers that he's taken a job as a minstrel at a medieval-themed restaurant.
* AmicableExes: He and his ex-wife, Helen, are still on good terms--saying they're "friends" might be a bit of a stretch, but they're at least still civil to each other.
* AngerBornOfWorry: When Sharon consumes alcohol at a party while visiting him, not only does he chew her out for it the next morning, he lectures her on what could've happened to her if Maria and Adam weren't there to get her safely back to the hotel.
* GoodParents: Not to Helen's extent, what with being a more minor character and not the children's usual guardian, but he loves his children and they love him back.
* PapaWolf: When Richard finds out that one of his roadies got his daughter drunk at a party, he doesn’t hesitate to fire the roadie in question.
* ParentsAsPeople: While there's no doubt that he loves his children, he's not the most responsible (or reliable) person and it does frustrate/disappoint them from time to time.
* ParentWithNewParamour: Much like with Helen's boyfriend, Sharon doesn't approve of her father getting a new girlfriend at first. Eventually, though, she's seen to be rather fond of Lauren.
* TheRockStar: His job, although by this point, his career is past its prime.
* VisitByDivorcedDad: Typically how he appears in the show.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: A variation, since he ''is'' divorced from the kids' mother and thus has reason to not constantly be around, but Sharon and her brothers tend to be disappointed whenever he doesn't stick around as long as he promises to because of work.
* YoureNotMyFather: At first, Griffin has this opinion of him whenever Richard tried acting like a fatherly figure to him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hannah Corbett]]
[[quoteright:123:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hannahglasses01.jpg]]

A girl that lives next door to the Spitzs' that Adam has taken a liking to.
----
* CoolBigSis: Sharon and Hannah have a lot in common and the latter seems to look up to the former as an older sister.
* GranolaGirl: She's a vegetarian and loves yoga.
* GirlishPigtails: Her hairstyle.
* OfficialCouple: She's Adam's girlfriend for most of the series.
* PinkMeansFeminine: She's always seen wearing a pink bandanna.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:David]]

Helen's new (and lasting) boyfriend.
----
* NiceGuy: His defining trait, to the point where Sharon tries to use it as a criticism of him being ''too'' nice.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Carmen]]

Another friend of Alden and Brock's and a third member of their band, Mangled Metal.
----
* DudeLooksLikeALady: He's got a rather feminine-looking appearance.
* GarageBand: His role is essentially to be the third member of this.
* SatelliteCharacter: Other than being part of Mangled Metal and a friend to Alden and Brock outside of Connor and the girls, he doesn't really add much to show's storyline.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mark "Dion" Jones]]
[[quoteright:125:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/char_dion.jpg]]

Sharon's BigBrotherMentor once she reaches high school. A aspiring fashion designer who makes can make clothes out of practically anything.
----
* AlwaysCamp: A rather flamboyant fashion designer who is eventually revealed to be gay.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: When he lists off ethnicities and races of Sharon's friends, he hesitates about his own race and just calls himself "adorable".
* BirdsOfAFeather: Subverted. Sharon tries to pair him up with someone based on this notion, but it's pointed out by the end that a handful of similarities does ''not'' necessarily make a relationship.
* CelibateHero: Downplayed, in that he's not opposed to finding "the one" someday, but unlike most of the cast, it's not a priority for him at the moment and he's perfectly happy being single. He's of the very few notable and/or recurring characters to never be seen crushing or dating someone in the series.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His love for creativity and refusal to care about others' judgment leads to him occasionally being this (such as [[FunnyBackgroundEvent randomly placing a bucket of paint over his head]], presumably to see if it'd make for a good fashion statement).
* DeadpanSnarker: He can have a rather dry sense of humour. His interactions with [[AlphaBitch Evie]] are almost nothing but PassiveAggressiveKombat.
* EccentricMentor: To Sharon. He's introduced as her school-mandated peer mentor, and his subsequent appearances tend to have him be a voice of reason when she's being shallow.
* TheFashionista: Dion is a budding fashion designer, and his innovative creations, usually made of stuff like dental floss or credit cards, are the hit of the school fashion shows.
* LargeHam: Mildly. He has a flair for the dramatic.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: If he didn't tell Sharon his real name in his debut episode, you'd be forgiven for thinking his name really ''was'' Dion.

[[folder:Lauren]]
[[quoteright:339:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lauren01.jpg]]
Richard's girlfriend and mother of Griffin.
----
* ParentalObliviousness: She apparently had no idea that Griffin was a smoker.
* ParentsAsPeople: It's noted that she ''tries'' to be a good parent but doesn't really have the strictness needed to keep Griffin in line.
* ParentWithNewParamour: Griffin really didn't like her boyfriend (Sharon's dad, Richard) at first.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Griffin]]
[[quoteright:339:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/griffin01.jpg]]
Lauren's son, and initially a delinquent who got kicked out of boarding school and moved in with Lauren.
----
* CallingParentsByTheirName: He's on a FirstNameBasis with Lauren, though whether because of his rebellious attitude or because of her lax parenting style isn't entirely clear.
* {{Delinquent}}: Was this in his debut.
* IHaveNoSon: To an extent. Griffin believes that the reason his dad sent him to live with Lauren was because Griffin, by getting kicked out of school, was now a stain on his reputation.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: He comes across as egotistical and overly assured in his own opinion, but Sharon calls him out on it being a cover-up for how he doesn't even care about himself.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Especially in his first appearance, with more emphasis on the {{Jerkass}} part, but he still has shades of this in later appearances: while a borderline NiceGuy, there are times when it's clear he's still rough around the edges.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Ends up having this relationship with Sharon, since with his mom and Sharon's dad being a "thing" (as he puts it), it essentially makes them stepsiblings.
* PairTheSpares: He ends up with Sharon's nemesis, Nina.
* TookALevelInKindness: He reforms after his debut, presumably due to Sharon's "PSA" getting to him.
* TroubledButCute: His debut focuses on the "troubled" part--and he ultimately ends up becoming a couple with Nina, who seems to consider him attractive enough to want him as her boyfriend.
* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: Sharon doesn't understand what Griffin and Nina see in each other--but after realizing that they really do genuinely care about each other, she accepts it and does her best to support the relationship.

Alden's girlfriend after he and Sharon break up.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: From Sharon's viewpoint (to an extent).
* ClingyJealousGirl: Marlo becomes progressively clingier and more possessive of Alden during the course of their romantic relationship--it comes to a head in the final season after Alden dedicate a song to Sharon (but only on a professional/platonic level, because Sharon helped him write it). Marlo forces Alden to uninvite Sharon from a weekend trip to a lake that they were all going to take together with some other friends of theirs--Sharon didn't get the message due to her braces erasing it on her answering machine. But eventually, Alden and Marlo decide to mutually break up after realizing that it's just not going to work out.
* ProperlyParanoid: She suspects that Alden's feelings for Sharon are more romantic than he lets on -- which is entirely correct, as in the episode where he gets amnesia he demonstrates that he's clearly still in love with her, even actually using the word "love" for the first time, and in the series finale they rekindle their romance after he admits he still has feelings for her.

[[folder:Genesis Lupinksi]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/genesis01.jpg]]

The daughter of Marsha Lupinski, an old high school friend of Sharon's mom.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: How Sharon initially feels about her, until she finds out that Genesis sees her the same way.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: It's revealed that Genesis wants what Sharon has: a normal life.
* OddNameOut: "Genesis" isn't exactly a very common name.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Petra]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/petra01.jpg]]
Nina Harper's cousin from London, England who's basically just a meaner/bitchier/snobbier version of Nina and the true culprit behind the doll incident that made Nina end her friendship with Sharon Spitz.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Likes to claim that she has better taste in fashion than Nina does. On the contrary, Petra's taste in fashion (at least compared to Nina's) is shown to be more "gaudy" than "stylish."
* EvilBrit: She speaks with a strong British accent, refers to London as her hometown, and, as previously mentioned, is basically just like Nina, but worse.
* TheFashionista: Just like her cousin, Petra's obsessed with fashion and her appearance.
* ForTheEvulz: She doesn't really give a reason on why she snapped all the heads off of her cousin's dolls, other than acknowledging that she "was a nasty little brat" as a kid.
* HatedByAll: No one likes Petra--Sharon and her friends greatly dislike just shortly after meeting her, and after Petra finally leaves to go back home to London, Nina and her GirlPosse have a going-away-party with a Petra-piñata to celebrate her finally leaving.
* PreppyName: She is given a very Sloane-y first name.
* WhamLine: When Sharon remembers that she was at the Harper residence when the doll incident happened, Nina once again accuses Sharon. In response, Petra laughs at her cousin and drops this bombshell;
-->"When did you finally figure out that ''I'' was the one who did it?"
