----

* AnimeHair: And wow, they can stay like that even when he takes his biker helmet off.
* BadassBiker: Known to be an expert biker.
* CharacterDevelopment: In the first game, Eiji was a brash, self-centered jerk who only cared about getting stronger. In the third game, Eiji is a genuinely heroic character who risks his life to save the world. The midquel AnimeOfTheGame has him as a NiceGuy from the beginning.
* TheFourGods: The Byakko Sword.
* GuestFighter: He is a guest character in the 1997 UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn video game ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-Xhird D-Xhird]]''.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Holds true to both him and Kayin.
* HeroProtagonist: Known to be the main protagonist of the entire series and becomes a genuinely heroic character.
* HotBlooded: A defining trait of Eiji's personality.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Eiji can be brash and self-centered at times, but he does have a good heart.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: His personal weapon of choice.
* MartialArtsHeadband: Can often be seen wearing one in battle.
* NiceGuy: In the anime.
* ParentalSubstitute: He becomes this to his nephew, Sho's son, Subaru after ''Toshinden 3''.
* PlayingWithFire: Most of his special moves and attacks tend to have a fire motif within them.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Subverted. He's got red eyes, but he's not a villain.
* RedOniBlueOni: With Kayin. He's the red oni.
* {{Shotoclone}}: He's the prerequisite "[[Characters/StreetFighterI Ryu]]"-type character, as he has the same basic moveset.
* ShoutOut: Eiji and Kayin both have Hyakyumon Shuuken as their DesperationAttack, which is essentially their rendition of [[VideoGame/ArtOfFighting Ryo and Robert's]] Ryuko Ranbu DM.

[[folder:Kayin Amoh - ''England'']]
[[quoteright:154:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kayin-sm7_5201.jpg]]

->Voiced by: Creator/RyotaroOkiayu (games), Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (OVA, Japanese), Creator/ChrisOrbach (OVA, English)

->Eiji's best friend and rival. Kayin is an [[strike: Scottish]] English bounty hunter who seeks to find the murderer of his adoptive father and eventually learns that it was [[spoiler:Sho]] who killed him.

----

* TheAtoner: He tries to be this for his adopted daughter Naru, [[spoiler:since he's the one who murdered the girl's real father, and he never forgave himself for that]].
* BountyHunter: He is said to be one of the world's best and toughest bounty hunters, known in reputation by his own bounty hunting codename "Storm".
* CoolSword: {{Excalibur}}: The name of Kayin's Long Sword.
* ExtremityExtremist: Kayin's fighting style is mostly dependent on kicks.
* KnightInSourArmor: Kayin can easily be known for being moody, cynical, mean-spirited, and not exactly a team player, but despite this, he'll still always do his very best to either help others out or set things right.
* MrFanservice: Guess who was the most popular character with the female/homosexual fans of the game?
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:After killing Naru's real father in a tragically ironic repeat of what happened to his own father.]]
* NameOfCain: And with all of the [[RuleOfSymbolism symbolism]] of it to boot. How it is spelled is a rare British form anglicizing the Hebrew pronunciation. It's practically his theme, even:
** His SinsOfTheFather aspect in his backstory: Cain was the first perpetrator of murder. God responded in kind with a curse of vengeance and eternal suffering onto Cain, that he shall die too a horrible death and his crimes shall be bared as example of what happens to all who walk his path. Puts his perfect victory quote [[SeeYouInHell "See you in Hell, baby!"]] in an entirely different perspective, huh?
** Being a martial artist and a bounty hunter, the arts of fighting and tracking can be unfortunately implicated to be skills in ways to kill and hunt down people. There's even a term that claims "Bounty hunting and the trade was found ever since Cain found what cave Abel was hiding in."
** Kayin's stages of cities are also a dark tie into his Cain theming: Cain was said to be the founder of cities, and named it after his first son, Enoch. From this biblical alliteration, it's been brought up as parable that cities draw out the worst from men, from using people for their own gain and making one's profit unjustly from the backs and hard labor of others, exacerbating economic hardship and competitiveness, desensitizing denizens to misery and hardship with the rat race of "the survival of the fittest", and even to what kinds of evils and crimes can be committed in the shadows with or without the eyes of the law, be it from robbery and mugging, the black market and the worst end of the sex trade, discriminatory crimes, or even to the upper class and the ruling castes commanding assassinations and manipulations of the market and economy.
** On top of this however, like with much of Japanese video games and anime of the time, his themes are deconstructed and reconstructed like ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' and [[EasternRPG JRPGs]]. Kayin is a repentant Catholic, and though fighting is necessary, it's not in his nature to kill for fun. Although bounty hunting isn't exactly an ideal job, he's out doing society a favor by putting away bad guys in jail, even if his track record is kind of spotty and blood soaked. Ironically, his bloodline stems from a highlander clan rooted from one of the Knights of the Round Table, which is why he is able to use Excalibur, making him not a relative of Grendel. Although he may come to claim the dead award of his bounties, Kayin is a vegetarian, and has done so to get himself away from the scent and taste of blood; even if from animals, his line goes to harmless byproducts, and nothing more. His theme is also one of redemption and salvation than resuming the course of murder and violence, and defying that to his last breath as both a flawed human with a good heart and a man of God. He even comes to help in the destruction of his employers, allowing civilization to progress to a brighter future than the definition of a city as told in biblical parable.
* PapaWolf: He will not hesitate when it comes to defending and protecting his own adopted daughter Naru while also showing no mercy or sympathy to those who would dare to harm her in the first place.
* ParentalAbandonment: His father was killed when he was a teenager by a bounty hunter named Amoh and upon learning that his target had a son, Amoh took Kayin in to atone for his action.
* PlaceWorseThanDeath: His background stages, usually alternating between TheBigRottenApple and {{Joisey}}. ''Toshinden 1'' saw him around Manhattan, ''Toshinden 2'' saw him in the heart of the Bronx at night, while ''Toshinden 3'' has him in an elevator stuck with Ten Count presumably in Atlantic City. Plays into his Cain theming.
* RedOniBlueOni: With Eiji, he's the blue oni.
* RetCon: Kayin's was Scottish in the first game. His nationality was changed to English in the second game.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Deconstructed. His thirst for revenge brought him nothing but grief.
* ShockAndAwe: Most of Kayin's special moves and attacks tend to have an electrical motif within them.
* {{Shotoclone}}: Of [[Characters/StreetFighterI Ken]]. However, while both their styles place emphasis on kicks, Kayin was designed that way from the start. By the time Creator/{{Capcom}} began to rework Ken, Kayin's preference for kicks was well established.
* ShoutOut:
** He also has Hyakyumon Shuuken, though his variation adds in a few extra kicks.
** Where Ten Count is based off of Music/MichaelJackson's Smooth Criminal, Kayin is straight to the matter with MJ's Beat It. Red Jacket, a huge dislike for unwanted fighting and violence, a vegetarian, and even a shout out to [[Music/VanHalen Eddie Van Halen]] with skills in guitar, Kayin is the near embodiment of the song.
** Rather than Ken's prestigious and pampered upbringing, he holds more in line with a greater tragedy centered [[Characters/FatalFuryTerryBogard Terry Bogard]].

->A cheerful kind-hearted Japanese girl who happens to be the main star of a traveling theater troupe. 84----

* ActionGirl: Not only is she one of the strongest female fighters in the series, but she's also a [[TheCutie cutie]] as well.
* AssKicksYou: Ellis uses a butt attack as part of her HK attack. Also as a part of her French Kiss DesperationAttack. She can also use it to attack a downed opponent in the second game.
* BadassAdorable: For someone of her size, she can deliver incredibly high amounts of damage due to her agility and her absurdly powerful {{Spam Attack}}.
* {{Chickification}}: Anime only. Granted, her opponent was ''Chaos'', but still, you'd expect her to put up a little more of a fight...well, guess somebody had to be the DesignatedVictim...
* CircusBrat: Thanks to horrific events in her past, her [[PapaWolf father]] sent her to be raised anonymously as a dancer in a Turkish traveling circus in order to keep her safe from the mysterious organization hunting them. As a result, she became an extremely skilled {{Dance Battler}}, arguably one of the fastest playable characters in the game, capable of jumps and acrobacies that [[NotQuiteFlight actually makes the viewers think she can fly]].
* CuteLittleFangs: She's often drawn with these, especially in Tsukasa Kotobuki's official art.
* TheCutie: One of her most defining traits.

* GenkiGirl: A defining trait of her personality.

* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler: For her initial shock and dismay, she finds out that she's Gaia's daughter. They eventualy come into terms and start a new life together far from battles.]]
* PluckyGirl: She even states she is one in her {{Catchphrase}}.
* RetCon: In the first game, Ellis is Turkish. After TheReveal, it is confirmed that she is actually Japanese.

* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Lady Uranus takes control of her during the anime and forces her to fight Eiji.
* BrokenBird: Don't let her [[MsFanservice outward appearence]] fool you. Sofia has a lot of emotional issues with not remembering her past:
-->''Sofia:'' It doesn't matter how bad your past might have been. Not having one is a lot more painful.
* CombatStilettos: Often seen fighting in them.
* DressedLikeADominatrix: Sofia dresses in a latex leotard that shows off her cleavage, high-heeled boots and fishnets. Her whip and domineering personality only complete the dominatrix motif.
* LightningLash: Sofia's Thunder Ring special attack fires a lightning projectile from her whip
* MsFanservice: It's quite unsurprising to know that Sofia is one of the most popular characters in the series because of this.
* NoblewomansLaugh: Sofia tends to do this whenever she wins a battle.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: All of her costumes tend to have this.
* SpectacularSpinning: Her Aurora Revolution special move and Call Me Queen DesperationAttack.
* WhipOfDominance: She is a skilled whip-wielding fighter with a {{Dominatrix}}-motif, often wearing skimpy leotards and having an over-the-top flirtatious and domineering persona who enjoys taunting her opponents and doing a NoblewomansLaugh. 138
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Duke had quite an [[SmallNameBigEgo ego]] in the beginning as he had believed himself to be the strongest swordsman in the world [[BreakTheHaughty until he met and was defeated by Eiji]]. Since then, he's been very determined to avenge his loss while also realizing that he needs to think more clearly when it comes to battle at the same time.
* {{BFS}}: His personal weapon of choice.
* KnightInShiningArmor: For all his flaws, Duke is a genuinely heroic person who cares for his people and wants to protect those who can't defend themselves.
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: Duke is the only character who cannot attack a knocked-down opponent. He can only taunt them to drain their Overdrive gauge.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Since his past defeat at the hands of Eiji, Duke has been quite adamant, to say the least, to get a rematch with him.
* TheRival: Would very much like to be Eiji's.

Sho had once trained Eiji and Kayin in the way of swordfighting, but in due time, he felt that the pair could get stronger in their own way and thus, he disappeared from their lives, traveling the world as he sought to face many strong opponents. Within time, Sho had met and fell in love with a woman named [[spoiler: Cupido]] and that the two of them would have a son named Subaru.

----

* AloofBigBrother: Were this series any more popular, he'd be the freaking poster boy for this trope!
* CynicismCatalyst: [[spoiler: He killed Kayin's adoptive father Amou during the first Toshinden tournament. Whether he killed him intentionally or not is uncertain, but it's vaguely implied the deed has weighed heavily on him and left him with a sour outlook on life.]]
* DisappearedDad: He does this to his son Subaru after leaving him in Eiji's care.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Characters/StreetFighterIIUpdatedVersions Akuma]], given his endless travels in search of a WorthyOpponent and his past relationship with Eiji, which parallels that between Ryu and Akuma.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: His personal weapon of choice.
* LightEmUp: Many of his moves are based on light, but [[LightIsNotGood he isn't exactly a good guy himself]].
* LightningBruiser: Nearly as fast as Ellis, but stronger, with better moves and no glass jaw.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His red eyes gives way a mysterious yet threatening presence to those around him.
* TheStoic: This guy is the most scarily apathetic human being in the entire series.
* {{Superboss}}: Bordering on SNKBoss but at least he's fun to fight against.
* SuperSpeed: One of the fastest characters in the entire series.
* TrueFinalBoss: In the first game. The same hold true for the second as well, except for the fact that he's one of the two True Final Bosses you can go up against (the other one being [[GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere Vermilion]]).
* WorldsStrongestMan: Sho is considered by many in having to be a living legend from within the ''Toshinden'' fighting world.

-> A mysterious woman who speaks with cryptic riddles and messages, Cupido is an elite member of the Himitsu Kessha who is revealed to have secretly participated in the first Toshinden tournament for reasons unknown.

----

* {{Expy}}: Based on her eerily similar appearance and occupation as a "Cryptic Seer", Cupido seems to be an AlternateCompanyEquivalent of Rose from ''Franchise/StreetFighter''.
* HappilyMarried: Surprisingly to, of all people, [[spoiler: Sho Shinjo. She is also the mother of their child Subaru]].
* MoralityPet: Is this for [[spoiler: her brother Ripper]].
* TrueFinalBoss: Of ''Battle Arena Toshinden Remix'' (the UsefulNotes/SegaSaturn port of the first title), in which she takes over this position from Sho and serves as the last opponent.

* AmbiguouslyBrown: Her skin tone is quite a bit darker than a lot of other characters.
* BadassAdorable: She may be cute to the eyes, but make no mistake as Tracy is one of the NYPD's toughest female cops from within the force itself.
* BoisterousBruiser: There's nothing Tracy enjoys more than a good fight!
* BrooklynRage: Of a street tough variety. Being on the force helps balance it out, but she's also known to be very headstrong, competitive, and straightforward, as well as an adrenaline junkie and stubborn tomboy.
* ByTheBookCop: Tracy may be a thrill-seeking cop when it comes to the job, but she's also fairly competent when it comes to standard police procedure as well. She admits however that compiling a report is the least favorite aspect of the job.
* DualWielding: Tracy fights with a pair of tonfa sticks.
* FanGirl: Trivia states that she is a huge fan of [[{{Music/Aerosmith}} Aerosmith]], with at least five albums autographed by Steven Tyler and the band themselves, thanks to a backstage pass. Saying that, she dislikes Music/{{The Rolling Stones|Band}}.
* GogglesDoNothing: Has a pair hanging from her police cap.
* HiddenDepths: Behind her violence-happy exterior lies a genuinely kind woman with a strong sense of justice.
* ShockAndAwe: Tracy tends to have an electrical motif in most of her special moves and attacks.

----

* AxCrazy: Chaos is probably the only fighter who could easily rival Fo Fai in this department.
* BaldOfEvil: Comes with the territory of being BrainwashedAndCrazy.
* BreathWeapon: Chaos can unleash a poison gas breath attack from his mouth.
* TheFourGods: The Shield of Genbu.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Upon the end of the Secret Society, it was revealed that Chaos' orders were also brainwashed into him, and the spell wore off, revealing him to be actually quite a well intentioned person and having originally no qualms with Gaia's mutiny.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Had his memory erased as a part of Uranus' plan to create strong and obedient SuperSoldiers for the Himitsu Kessha.
* SinisterScythe: His personal weapon of choice.
* SlasherSmile: Chaos tends to do this whenever he's about to fight.
* SpectacularSpinning: Has a few moves which involves him spinning real fast.
* VomitIndiscretionShot: Chaos uses this as a counter move in ''Toshinden 3''.

She has no remorse over her past actions and is determined to gain even more power for her personal ambition.

----

* AmbitionIsEvil: Uranus desires to become the ultimate ruler of the world and will not hesitate to murder anyone who tries to stand in her way.
* BreathWeapon: She can unleash [[PlayingWithFire a short-ranged fire blast]] from her mouth.
* TheDragon: To the Master.
* TheFourGods: The Suzaku Bow.
* LightIsNotGood: Has an angelic appearence, and mostly wears white, but she's one of the nastiest villains in the series!
* ManipulativeBitch: Very capable and willing to use people's feelings against them. Borders on [[MagnificentBastard magnificence]] with the way she's capable of controlling almost all aspects of her plans.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: [[spoiler: It's implied from within Uranus' backstory that she and Duke were once in a loving relationship with each other, but this didn't last as Uranus had betrayed Duke for her position in the Himitsu Kessha. Suffice to say, Duke was less than pleased about the betrayal.]]
* TheStarscream: Wants to usurp the Master's place as the Himitsu Kessha's leader.

* BadassLongcoat: His debut appearance from within the second game.
* BreakoutVillain: Started out as secret character in the second game to being an integral part of the story lines of the succeeding games. Also, he was one of only three returning characters, the others being Naru Amoh and Eiji, that were present on the last game's roster and also made the cut for the spinoff title ''Battle Arena Nitoshinden''.
* TheDragon: To Abel.
** DragonAscendant: Becomes the BigBad in the fourth game.
* EvilCounterpart: To Nagisa. Both of them share a theme of law and crime, in which Nagisa is a well-known and respected police detective who doubles as a part-time agent for Interpol and that he believes in the full extent of both the law and justice while Vermilion is a cruel and vicious criminal who has no remorse or regret for his past crimes and that he truly enjoys his merciless and despicable work from within the criminal underworld.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Wears a pair of vermilion-colored glasses and has a vicious and merciless personality.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: His appearance in the second game. His ending text even calls him this, to a point.
* GunsAkimbo: His preferred method of fighting.
* LaughablyEvil: He may be a gun-crazy loony who wants to lay the world to waste, but at least he gets points for being fun in his own way!
* ProfessionalKiller: Vermilion is a sadistic mercenary who's able to do his vicious and merciless jobs with no problem.
* PsychoElectro: In the third game, one of his strongest attacks consists of tying electrical strings to his opponents' wrists and ankles and electrocute him/her.

* TheDragon: To Wolf.
* EvilCounterpart: To Sho Shinjo, though downplayed. Replicant has all of Sho's skills but absolutely none of his compunctions.

----

* BadassLongcoat: Wears a large orange one as a part of his attire.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: David has a timid and polite personality towards those who know him, but it is unwise that you do not anger him to the point that he'll instantly and immediately attack you upon sight. He even flipped out to the point he blacked out going psycho getting out of an Organization stronghold in a bloodbath, so you fight him at your own risk.
* ChainsawGood: His personal weapon of choice, and a CreepySouvenir TragicKeepsake BattleTrophy.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: David's entire backstory in a nutshell.
* EvilFormerFriend: Judgement, who had betrayed David and joined the Soshiki in order to [[DealWithTheDevil obtain his own dark power]].
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: Unlike the Toshinden fighters who are marked for death by the Soshiki, David has it even worse. Since the prophecy of Agon Teos states that the body of a purehearted person can hold his immense spiritual power, Abel and the Soshiki chooses David to be Agon Teos' reluctant human vessel and thus, they start to make his life a living hell for him in hopes of succeeding with their evil plan.
* OrphansOrdeal: His backstory. At six years old, David was already marked by the Organization as a potential vessel for Agon Teos, and his parents were killed by an act of arson to his home done as an assassination attempt to leave him completely helpless. As soon as it was over, he was immediately sent to an orphanage- One that was unknown to him to be run by the Organization themselves in turn, functioning as a convenient way to gather sacrifices for blood to be used in their magic ceremonies. Add that with childhood trauma so severe and the FridgeHorror of said orphanage, it is no doubt that David has it even possibly worse than Kayin for childhood bereavement and victimization.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: Being so pure hearted, his anger and fighting spirit overtook him to the point that it repressed his lead personality before ripping apart every Organization mook that dared to stand in his way.
* WhatDidIDoLastNight: When David had taken the chances of fighting his way to freedom, he immediately clutched a chainsaw, and blacked out. Next thing he knew, he was out on the streets alive, but drenched in the blood of his captors and with chainsaw in hand.

[[quoteright:154:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cuiling-sm3_4384.jpg]]

->A young Hong Kong Chinese girl who was raised from early childhood by a [[TheTriadsAndTheTongs triad family]] to be an assassin for them.

----

* ActionGirl: Cuiling is considered to being one of the strongest assassins to ever come from her [[TheTriadsAndTheTongs traid family]], helped by the fact that she was personally trained by Fo Fai himself and that she's been officially known and declared as Fo Fai's true successor.
* TheApprentice: Cuiling's backstory states that she was personally trained by Fo Fai during the time between ''Toshinden 2'' and ''3'' (given the fact that she's literally a female version of Fo in gameplay) and throughout the [[TrainingFromHell training]] itself, she had developed a [[HeroWorshipper granddaughter-like affection]] towards Fo.
* BreakoutCharacter: When Cuiling had debuted in ''Toshinden 3'', she had unexpectedly became a popular character due to not only her [[TheCutie cute]] appearance, but also for her GenkiGirl personality and the fact that some had considered her a RedeemingReplacement for Fo Fai. Because of this, Cuiling would appear as a playable character in the [[NoExportForYou Japanese-only]] Platform/PlayStation game ''Toshinden Card Quest''.
* GenkiGirl: A defining trait of her personality.
* HeelRealization: As a young orphan, Cuiling was raised by a [[TheTriadsAndTheTongs triad family]] who taught her the concepts of assassination and how to not have any emotions when it came to doing her missions. However, a long-time member of the group (who had secretly opposed violence against innocent people) had softened her heart and explained to her that taking the life of an innocent person was wrong and that it would deeply affect those who are close to the person. Through this explanation and a couple of others, Cuiling had shed TearsOfRemorse as she realized that she could never be a full-fledged assassin.
* TheMole: Despite being a member of the Soshiki, Cuiling was never actually a loyal member of the group. Her reason for joining the group was due to the fact that Abel had payed for her services from her [[TheTriadsAndTheTongs triad family]] and although Cuiling served Abel well, she secretly sought to stop him after learning of his history and current plan, thus she teamed up with Eiji and the rest of the heroes.

->An American modern-day pirate who seeks revenge against Eiji for a past loss against him.

----

* AnIcePerson: Most of his attacks have an ice motif to them, in contrast to Eiji's [[PlayingWithFire fire]] attacks.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: How so? Look at his artwork!
* EvilCounterpart: To Eiji. He shares a theme of temperament with Eiji; where Eiji was a hot blooded jerk seeking to get stronger, overtime, he softened up and became more level headed in his pursuits. Leon is a cruel and cocky jerk without any standards, who will do anything in his power to be the strongest and get rid of those who will stand in his way, even if it meant sending them as a sacrifice to Abel's plans. He even desires to challenge Sho to achieve his goal.
* FlippingTheBird: His official artwork features him doing this!
* NinetiesAntiHero: And a deconstructive parody at that. Along with emphasizing a major East VS West theme, he's evocative of and a large jab at 1990s RatedMForManly gorefest fighting games like ''VideoGame/BloodStorm'' and ''VideoGame/TimeKillers'' for being an amoral and dubious SociopathicHero who has no redeeming qualities and [[HeroicWannabe seeks to replace Eiji as the protagonist of the series.]]
* {{Pirate}}: The first one in the series, and a rare modern day kind. His membership in the Organization also is said for him to be rewarded for killing and bringing back targets and marks they hunt out as well as stealing and robbing people off shore.
* TheStarscream: Leon seeks to overthrow Abel and take control over the Soshiki.

* EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: Most of his attacks tend to have glowing sparkles from within them.
* EvilCounterpart: To Kayin. Both share a theme of experience, where Kayin's life influenced by the underworld done nothing but give him hell, Ten Count enjoys his grisly work and killing in the underworld, treating it like play and stardom.
* ExtremityExtremist: Much like Kayin, Ten Count's fighting style is also dependant on kicks as well.
* FauxAffablyEvil: While not being an assassin for the Soshiki, Ten Count is known for having a suave aristocratic personality.
* OutlawCouple: The boyfriend of Zola.
* SharpDressedMan: Probably one of the most stylish characters from within the series.

----

* CaptainErsatz: ''Toshinden's'' version of Comicbook/{{Catwoman}}.
* EvilCounterpart: To Sofia. Their themes are that of modesty; Sofia's profile states that her most disliked things in the world are those who are too proud for their own good, and she herself is an accomplished pianist and dancer as well, combined with her profession as a private investigator, compared to Zola, whose special attacks' names indicate a sense of vanity and flaunting exhibition.
* [[{{Opera}} Opera Singer]]: When she's not being an assassin for the Soshiki, Zola tends to her day job as a popular opera singer.
* OutlawCouple: The girlfriend of Ten Count.
* SensualSpandex: Wears a black tight variation as a part of her catsuit motif.

----

* ArmCannon: His personal weapon of choice.
* EvilCounterpart: To Rungo. The two of them share a theme of nature vs technology. Rungo, outside of the Toshinden, is actually quite a nature man, has a family of his own, and had to work real hard day and night from within the mines in order to gain his strong muscles, and has to face off against a killing machine, while Adam, who is a robot, has unfathomable power from within his own circuits and machinery, yet ultimately desires to be a human for the sake of love, despite his methods to get what he wants.
* KillerRobot: A powerful and dangerous robot who can lay waste to anyone in battle.
* MoreDakka: In both his Special and DesperationAttack.
* {{Robosexual}}: Adam's backstory states that he had fallen in love with a human woman and was determined to gain a human body for his services to the Soshiki.

* EvilCounterpart: To Mondo. 575* {{BFS}}: His personal weapon of choice.
* BloodKnight: His obsession to slay Duke and destroy the Rambert bloodline makes Balga fall into this state and join the Soshiki
* EvilCounterpart: To Duke. Both of them share a theme of honor, in which Duke has a chivalrous spirit and that he expects a good fight from within his battles while respecting his opponents' own strength and power. Balga on the other hand has a treacherous spirit and that he doesn't care about a fair fight or the opponent's own welfare. This is quite evident as Balga uses kick attacks while Duke doesn't.

* HairTriggerTemper: Suffice to say, Rachael, having to grow up all alone as a homeless StreetUrchin from within the tough and dangerous streets of UsefulNotes/NewYorkCity while fighting for survival one day at a time had truly caused her to fully develop quite a violent and unforgiving temper, along with an infamous reputation that was gained by said temper.

* BareFistedMonk: The only character in all games never to use weapons of any kind.
%%* BigBad: In the third game.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: While Abel is no saint by any means, he certainly knew well enough that destroying all of existence for shiggles[[note]](s**ts and giggles for those wondering)[[/note]] was both wrong and insane. Hence why he decided to seal his predecessor Veil away in the first place.
* LargeAndInCharge: Abel is said to be very tall and holds a strong and menacing aura around him.
* PowerFist: Uses it as a part of his fighting style.

* SNKBoss: His moves do incredible damage, and he isn't too slow himself. His special attacks are likewise incredibly damaging, and have little-to-no recovery time, making it hard to punish his mistakes. Watch out for his grab move, which sends you airborne and can be followed by pretty much everything this guy wants, including two of his desperation moves. And on that matter, all of his desperation moves are lethal and practically impossible to avoid, and they come out in an instant.
* SphereOfDestruction: One of his most powerful attacks.
* TheStarscream: He betrayed his group's previous leader, Veil, by imprisoning him and taking control for himself.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: It is said from within his backstory that Abel had grew unhappy and dissatisfied with the way that that the world was in its current state and had desired to create a new utopian world where he would rule as its undisputed leader. While it may seem and sound quite noble and valiant at first, it's completely subverted and undermined by the fact that Abel and his followers are willing to hunt down and kill innocent people in order to use their [[ThePowerOfBlood blood]] to bring forth a [[GodOfEvil fighting god of destruction]] in order to help advance and bring forth the plan itself into fruition.

* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler: To ''Abel''.
