The main character of ''Asura's Wrath''. Once one of the Eight Guardian Generals of Shinkoku Trastrium, Asura was betrayed and killed by his seven comrades. They framed him for the murder of Emperor Strada, killed his wife, and took his daughter away from him. Full of rage and a desire for revenge, he comes back to life with his wrath as his only weapon.

But the object of his wrath is not only revenge, but also the suffering of their world, Gaea. When his anger escalates, his Mantra activates and transforms him into a godly six-armed warrior.

His Mantra affinity is [[UnstoppableRage Wrath]].
----
* ActionDad: [[ExaggeratedTrope An extreme example]] overlapping with PapaWolf, as he admits that the only way he knows how to help Mithra is to punch anything that makes her cry. God ''help'' you if you do anything to hurt Mithra because after Durga's death because nothing matters to him more than her. ''Nothing.'' ''Not even his own'' '''''LIFE.'''''
* AllYourPowersCombined: After he gets the Mantra Reactor of the Karma Fortress, he is able to use the power of all 8 Mantras.
* AnArmAndALeg: Ends up losing most/all of his limbs in some of his battles against the other Deities. He still prevails despite of that. Taken further in his fight against [[CosmicEntity Chakravartin]], where he loses all his massive arms as the fight drags on, but with his default arms remaining which he uses to eventually finish him off.
* AnimeHair: White and permanently vertical.
* AntiHero: He fits into the PragmaticHero category, as he doesn't care if he has to kill his former allies in order to save his daughter. He falls short of the {{unscrupulous|hero}} archetype, despite the setting that's been created on Gaea during his first death; he spares soldiers who are too afraid to fight him, and never gives in to cynicism, instead trying to save innocent lives if he can.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: As Destructor Asura, Gaea is no bigger than his torso, which is planet Earth in all but name. He and Chakravartin's ultimate form completely dwarf even Sakra Devanam Indra Deus, and that ''really'' says something.
** He was likely meant to be bigger then the original concept of the complete Karma Fortress as stated below, but console limitations had to scale him back.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: The ''Webcomic/PennyArcade'' pre-order comic has this. While looking for his keys, Asura throws his house into space; when a moped cuts him off, he throws an oil tanker at a gas station, causing the town to explode; just because an old lady asks him for the date while paying for groceries with a check, he punches the ground hard enough that the Earth swallows North America; and when he receives no-bubble tea with bubbles, he doesn't even ''tip''. The psychiatrist is understandably skeptical.
-->'''Psychiatrist:''' Then what happened? Did you throw the moon at them or something?\
'''Asura:''' No, no. I left. I just walked out. I don't know. It seemed rude.
* AttackAttackAttack: His default strategy as he really doesn't use planning in any way shape or form just pure berserker instincts.
* BackFromTheDead: Happens to him when he's betrayed and killed by the other demigods. Also happens 2 more times after. He comes back ''by sheer anger alone'', and each time he does, he does so ''faster''.
* BaritoneOfStrength: Both voice actors give him a deep, gruff voice to fit with his AntiHero personality and his monstruous strength.
* BashBrothers: Does this with Yasha in Episode 18/True Episode 18. Bonus points for them actually being brothers-in-law. Subverted in that they don't even try coordinating attacks. They just both SpamAttack the opponent and manage to stay out of each other's way. This does occasionally result in [[CombinationAttack moments of surprising synergy]].
* BattleAura: He prominently glows red when powering up. With the Mantra Reactor, it becomes a [[EverythingsBetterWithRainbows rainbow aura]].
* BerserkButton: If you hurt his family or so much as even make his daughter cry, '''you will die.'''
* TheBerserker: The game is called "Asura's Wrath" for a reason, as the game revolves around berserking and makes wrath a central theme. Asura's anger in battle is so obscene and unfocused that he doesn't really get any pleasure from actually killing things but is more like an itch that he can't scratch. At first, the fact that he can't calm down bugs him, then it genuinely confuses him, and then it starts freaking him out by letting loose all of his rage to obliterate any opponent in his path. In the end, he's able to focus his anger, but can find any way to quell it and even starts cursing his power. That is, until he killed Chakravartin in Part IV Nirvana. Sure, he died too afterward, but he managed to save Mithra, and [[GoOutWithASmile that was enough for him.]]
* BigShutUp: A great many characters can be [[ShutUpHannibal silenced]] [[TalkToTheFist mid-monologue]].
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: It matters not to him your lopsided morality nor your attempts at justifying your cruel and merciless plans with your misguided world-views inspired by sin-fueled Mantra; you murdered his wife, you murdered both his and YOUR Emperor, you abducted his daughter and tortured her for her Mantra-augmenting powers, and you slaughtered countless innocent humans for thousands of years. You WILL die and he will not mourn your passing.
* BloodKnight: Was this in his younger days and often liked a decent fight every once in a while; however, after he met and married Durga and they had Mithra, he mellowed out quickly but ever since he was betrayed by his comrades he now focuses on defeating them more than anything and can't enjoy a fight when he's so full of anger. Though he does display a small smirk every now and then showing he still has a some of his warrior spirit left within him.
* BringIt: His response to having a demigod the size of a ''planet'' send his mountainous FINGER down to crush him. He wins.
* BroughtDownToBadass: According to the [[Creator/CyberConnect2 developers]], Asura has lost most of his godly power after being sealed away for 12,000 years. Even without them, he slaughters mooks like they are nothing, can keep up with and take hits from Wyzen after the latter grows over 60 meters tall, and when angry enough, stops Wyzen's Tennessee-sized finger in his planet-sized state and punches it and Wyzen into oblivion.
* BumblingDad: For all of his physical invincibility, Asura is helpless against the gentle teasing of his wife and daughter. For them, and only for them, is he completely disarmed of rage. One of his most endearing qualities is that he is very much aware [[CripplingOverspecialization that this leaves him no way to interact with them competently]]. Notably, this is not played for laughs or done in a way that makes him seem like an idiot, like most other examples.
-->'''Asura:''' I don't know what to do when she cries. The best I can do is punch anyone who makes her cry.
* CatchAndReturn: Does this with a God damned missile, a la the [[ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk Hulk]].
* CharacterDevelopment: His rage at being betrayed and his daughter being kidnapped is tempered with indignation at how the innocent masses are treated. He later goes to attack the demigods not only to save his family and get revenge, but also to free humanity from their tyranny. Despite being a rage-fueled hothead, his instinctive concern for mankind puts him head and shoulders above the rest of the demigods, ethically speaking.
* ClippedWingAngel: The Wrath form is a rare heroic example. He takes this form after his Berserker form took a blast from the Brahmastra, he is covered in black colored armor and looks cracked. Its concept art says that when Asura attacks in this form, he does more damage to ''himself'' than he does the enemy. Although that doesn't stop him from gutting and head-stomping Sergei and putting up a decent fight with Yasha.
* ColossusClimb: Does one on Wyzen, just to give him a good old fashioned punch to the face.
* CutlassBetweenTheTeeth: The remains of Wailing Dark. He holds it in his teeth due to losing his arms again at that point in the story.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's not going to be winning any "People to trust on sight" awards any time soon, but he's still a good guy. Played even straighter in the later part of the game where, after he develops a SuperPoweredEvilSide, he ''still'' makes a point of avoiding hurting civilians and good guys.
* DefrostingIceKing: Yasha is kind to and sort of supportive of Asura, but Asura isn't having any of it. It doesn't help that Yasha also [[TheRival keeps trying to outdo him in battle]], which pisses off Asura, as he sees competition as pointless when in battle. After [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu beating up Gaea's core]] together, Asura is less of an asshole to Yasha, a massive accomplishment in itself.
* {{Determinator}}: Keeps on fighting a guy who calls himself '''{{God}}''' after [[AnArmAndALeg losing his arms]]! By the end of the game, he's been ''killed'', '''four times''', and just keeps coming back on sheer fury and determination, and every time he dies, he just keeps coming back ''faster''.
%%* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: "I refuse."
* DisappearsIntoLight: After defeating Chakravartin, Mantra no longer exists. Because Asura's very life was tied into his Wrath Mantra, he dies like this, even when Mithra doesn't want it to happen.
* DyingAsYourself: Spends most of the game consumed by rage and his eyes glowing with fury. He dies with his wrath gone, and his eyes normal.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: It took Asura 12,500 years, dying at least three times, killing all of his former friends, watching countless innocents die, and punching the equivalent of God in the face, but he saved his daughter and finally found peace, and he saved the world. It's an even happier ending in the post-credits DistantFinale, where he, Durga, Mithra, Yasha and all his former friends have been reincarnated into [[Franchise/StreetFighter a new modern world.]]
* EleventhHourSuperPower: Mantra Asura. An even better example is his planet-sized Destructor form, which is his main power source for the final battle even after he turns human-sized as well as losing all those oversized arms later.
* EscapedFromHell: Asura is repeatedly killed and sent down into [[{{Hell}} Naraka]] (named after the Buddhist equivalent of Hell). His response is to literally climb his way out of this hell-like underworld. The really amazing part is that Asura gets killed '''four''' times over the game, and every time he dies he just comes back ''faster''. The first time he climbed out of Naraka took 12,000 years. The second time took five hundred. The third took a couple of days. And the fourth a couple of ''hours''.
-->'''Asura''': How many times must I repeat this?
* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: After being implanted with the Mantra Reactor by Yasha, his Mantra aura in both his Destructor form and during the first part of the final battle with Chakravartin is a rainbow color, representing his inheritance of all the Mantras of the Seven Deities. He goes back to red for the battle with Chakravartin's [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver Creator]] form.
* ExactWords: The game says that Asura will extend his arm in response to Chakravartin's offer. Said arm has his hand [[ShutUpHannibal balled up in a fist]].
* ExplosiveOverclocking: His rage causes him to summon more power than his body is able to handle. Yasha later rectifies this by imbuing him with the Mantra Reactor from Deus' flagship.
* FasterThanLightTravel: Can dodge beams from Gohma Vlitra in its strongest mode in space with ease when said beams are fired from the planet. Even moreso in his Destructor form, in which he can casually fly past entire solar systems' worth of planets and into the centre of the universe in mere minutes.
* {{Flight}}: Only in space though.
* FullPotentialUpgrade: Yasha installs the Mantra Reactor of the Karma Fortress - specifically designed to handle huge amounts of Mantra - into Asura so he may use his full power without further harming his body. This unlocks Asura's planet-sized Destructor form, and the human-sized version of said Destructor form resembles Mantra form with six arms.
* GatheringSteam:
** Due to his Mantra affinity being Wrath, this is how his fights typically play out. In gameplay, instead of depleting the enemy's health bars, each successful attacks to the enemy fills the Burst Gauge which starts empty, depicting Asura's boiling rage stockpiling, accumulating more and more Mantra until he's strong enough to unleash even more devastating attacks, which is done by the player pressing the Burst button after its gauge is full, usually done to trigger a CoupDeGrace and advance further on the story.
*** Even when he loses his arms after his [[SuperMode transformations]], he'd still be able to finish off his enemies in his weakened state due to his accumulated Mantra after the player triggers Burst. However, he seemingly would lose his accumulated Mantra after being out of the fight for a while; Asura was unable to put up any fight against Yasha in his weakened state after he kills Wyzen with his remaining one arm.
** His final fight with Chakravartin starts off with Chakravartin being able to block his fist with one finger, but with the Mantra Reactor allowing him to achieve his true potential despite losing his oversized arms, Chakravartin gradually requires more and more effort to defend against Asura's attacks, with Asura eventually causing Chakravartin actual pain, but at this point Chakravartin still has a clear superior physical might where Asura needs to use his agility and reflexes to outmaneuver him, until his wrath grows explosively where in every successive Burst, his punches starts breaking Chakravartin's body, gradually weakening him to the point that Asura manages to cause devastating shockwaves through Chakravartin's body by simply using his head to block punches, leaving Chakravartin barely able to stand up. Chakravartin himself expresses increasing frustration and eventually terror at how Asura keeps getting stronger as the fight drags on.
* TheGift: Asura's latent potential surpasses that of every other demigod in the game, even his fellow Guardian Generals and discounting how his available Mantra and power are influenced by his wrath. Despite being at his weakest during his first revival after 12,000 years in Naraka, Wyzen is unable to beat him despite using ''hundreds of millions'' of souls worth of Mantra to power up according to Yasha's words. And it only gets more ridiculous from there, to the point Yasha is left openly wondering upon witnessing Berserker Asura's creation and during his fight with Wrath Asura how in the hell has Asura gained this much power in such a short period of time without needing to rely on Mithra's power or humanity's souls to strengthen himself. Indeed, his potential is so great [[HeroicRROD his own body can't withstand his full power]] without outside aid, and cultivating it is the reason why Chakravartin is so obsessed with grooming him into the new successor.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: He has this permanently since his resurrection. They only return to normal in the TrueEnding.
%%* GoOutWithASmile:%%Quotes are not context.
%%-->'''[[DisappearsIntoLight Asura]]''': My wrath... is finally... gone. Durga... I'll be home... soon.
* GodCouple: Was this with Durga.
* AGodIAmNot: Refuses to go along with Chakravartin's scheme to make Asura into the world's new god since he believes that the world doesn't need a god like him. In the Akuma episode, he tells Akuma "Don't call me a god!"
* GoodIsNotNice: At heart, he's a good and extremely moral person that, even when driven over the edge, keeps his grudges between himself and those who have wronged him, but you likely wouldn't guess that from his rough exterior.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: His preferred method of fighting. [[TheJuggernaut He needs nothing else.]]
* GoodParents: Leaving aside [[PapaWolf everything]] the flashbacks show, he was a genuinely good father off the battlefield, [[BumblingDad even if he did need a crash course in comforting Mithra]] (apart from "find reason she's crying, punch face").
* HandicappedBadass: He loses both his arms on a couple occasions, and has to fight without them. Of course, [[{{Determinator}} this doesn't]] stop, or even slow, him at all.
* HairTriggerTemper: Being that he's basically UnstoppableRage given flesh, this was to be expected. The guy literally blows up over every little thing and it doesn't help that he's so irritated with the world he lives in that he can just barely contain his anger. It doesn't help that almost everything sets him off including the crying of his own child. (Though this is most likely less the crying itself and more the fact that [[{{BumblingDad}} the only plan he has to make her stop crying is to find the thing that's making her cry, then punch said thing]])
* HeartbrokenBadass: When he found Durga slain, his grief leads him to angrily confront Deus, only to be curbstomped and sent down to Naraka. Later, when Ahria is bombed to death along with her village, watching her dead body prompts him to go into a RoaringRampageOfRevenge against Olga's fleet.
* TheHeroDies: Unlike his previous deaths, he dies for good in the final ending. TheStinger hints that he's reincarnated at some point, along with everyone else.
* HeroicRROD: His rage proves to be too much for his own arms to handle. ''Multiple times''. Good thing he can regenerate almost instantly.
** His own power becomes a major problem later on because he can't go past his Mantra form without his own body being torn apart by his own power.
** His Wrath form is set on this by default.
** This is fixed later thanks to Yasha implanting the Karma Fortress' Mantra Reactor into Asura.
* HeroicSacrifice: Killed [[GodIsEvil Chakravartin]] despite knowing that it would also be the end of himself.
* HeroismMotiveSpeech: While beating the crap out of Chakravartin at the end, he lets loose with one of these, saying that he knows the reasons for his wrath. That he cannot stand fools who try to rule over others weaker than themselves and forcing others to do what they can't do for themselves. That he cannot pray to gods who rule others, and will not be prayed to. And, most importantly, [[ThisIsUnforgivable he'll never forgive anyone]] who makes [[PapaWolf his daughter Mithra cry]].
* HistoricalVillainUpgrade: As shown in an Interlude, the Seven Deities did this InUniverse to him, telling the other demigods and especially the humans Asura was a monstrous traitor (complete with demonic features and three heads like the mythological Asuras) who murdered Emperor Strada out of a lust for blood and power while the "heroic" future Seven Deities defeated and cast him down into Naraka for his crimes. After Asura came back the first time and killed Wyzern before dying again, they had to edit the story to include that as well.
* HolyHalo: [[http://www.ptfgn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/AsurasWrath_Gamestop_Artbook_PAPresentsComic_Cover1.jpg The cover of the concept artbook from the Game Stop pre order]] has him with one, shown to be present back before he was betrayed, and it's even grander and bigger than Deus or Mithra's.
* HotBlooded: Every time he fights, he's bound to scream repeatedly and on the top of his lungs with every single attack he dishes out. He also has a burning passion for everything he does and which can cause him to become very impulsive and reckless to where he is compared to being just a mad man who knows how to fight.
* HulkingOut: Mostly averted, though the arms on his Mantra and Destructor forms are bigger than in his Vajra form.
* IdenticalStranger: According to Ahria, Asura bears an uncanny physical resemblance to her father. This, alongside sharing her hatred of the Seven Deities and the MartyrdomCulture they spread amongst the humans of Gaea, is a major reason why she follows him around.
* IdiotHero: Played with whenever Yasha's around, since Asura insists on killing things whenever Yasha tries to think. Suicidal recklessness aside, Asura's already done plenty of pontificating on his journey. At the end of the game, it's brought around full circle. Yasha tries to reason that there must be a better alternative to Deus' plans, while Asura cuts through his hesitation (12,000 years of hesitation, mind you) by saying that ifs and hows were irrelevant, Deus needed to go down because the people of Gaea ''needed'' to be free of their torment — a fact he had learned only too well over the course of the game.
* InASingleBound: Uses his fists to propel himself to extraordinary heights.
* ItsPersonal: Doesn't really get more personal than losing your wife, getting betrayed and killed by your seven best buddies, and having your daughter put through hell to power a god-weapon fueled by human souls. Whenever the Seven Deities try to appeal to his more altruistic side by sighting how important their work is in the grand scheme, he will dismiss them, sighting that he only fights for Mithra and that their agenda is no concern of his.
--> '''Asura''': I grow tired of hearing about the world!!
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: The kindest word he has for his family is "Thanks" (though they sure as hell aren't fooled by the attitude). Nevertheless, he is visibly relaxed around them and fiercely protective of their safety, and it's otherwise clear that he loves them. Likewise, later in the game, though he's gruff to strangers and mostly yells, roars, or curses when he's irritated, he tries to protect Ahria when she follows him around and is deeply affected by the suffering he witnesses.
* TheJuggernaut: ''Nothing'' will stop him from rescuing his daughter. In gameplay, he's a bit harder to knock down than the typical beat-'em-up protagonist, and he truly lives up to the trope in Unlimited Mode, where he'll more or less NoSell anything up to and including boss attacks.
* KiManipulation: Creates mantra-based projectiles shaped like his fists, and are his primary projectiles.
* LargeHam: Almost always yells every line whenever he's really angry.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Temporarily in the beginning of the game after being killed and thrown to Gaea 12,000 years prior to reawakening. And when [[UnstoppableRage he remembers...]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Furious" and "One who destroys the ring" as Asura the Destructor.
* LightningBruiser: Much more so than any video game protagonist has any right to be. Somewhat more Bruiser than Lightning though, when compared to Yasha, the other playable character. Asura is stronger, better with crowds, and can knock enemies around more easily, including bosses.
** Interestingly, the final act of the game highlights another aspect of his LightningBruiser-dom, his sheer ''agility''. He may not be as fast as Yasha, but he sure as hell is a lot more agile than him. This, more than anything else, is what allows Asura to outfight [[TrueFinalBoss Chakravartin]], who is borderline ''[[RealityWarper omnipotent]]'', even after Asura loses all his oversized arms, practically BackToBaseForm (at least outwardly, as the enormous amount of Mantra he accumulated stays in his body).
* {{Mangst}}: His anger and own bouts of Mangst can be attributed not just to his wife being killed, his daughter kidnapped, and being imprisoned for 12,000 years, but also to the cruelty done by his former allies who all go on to promote the suffering of the planet and Gaea's people. Later, when a little girl that looks just like his daughter gets killed in a bombing raid by one of his former allies, he goes into both this and a massive rage ''at the same time.''
* MeaningfulName: "Asura" can be interpreted as "powerful" or "mighty." It also refers to the mythological Asuras, who in Buddhism, are reincarnations of souls who acted based on passion, especially justifiable anger, in life -- which describes him [[UnstoppableRage all]] [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge too]] [[PapaWolf well]]. [[IronicName From a Hindu perspective, however]], Asuras are the perpetual enemies of the Devas whose wickedness caused them to forfeit immortality. While Asura does come to blows with so called Gods, his principle enemy (Downloads aside) is a chief Asura and the two of them are the ones with the seeming immortality.
** The alternative name for his Mantra form. Prajna Form, is wisdom, understanding, discernment, insight, or cognitive acuity.
* MeditatingUnderAWaterfall: Before the final battle with Chakravartin.
* MessianicArchetype: He possesses a strong moral compass that puts the welfare of the innocent over his own ambitions, is unjustly betrayed by those he trusted ([[ObviousJudas the Seven Deities]]), has died and resurrected multiple times (all of which done by said mentioned formerly trusted), he is given the option to rule the world by [[SatanicArchetype Chakravartin]] (an offer which he denies almost instantly), and sacrifices himself to destroy Chakravartin and wipe out all mantra (which coincidentally coincides with the SevenDeadlySins) and bring the world and its people into a new age.
* MightyRoar: When he enters his Berserker form he lets out a scream so powerful the shockwave alone destroys several spaceships.
* MonkeyKingLite: Asura is an incredibly powerful immortal that dedicates himself to RageAgainstTheHeavens and the gods that rule over it with an iron fist. He emerges from beneath a mountain (just as Sun Wukong was born from a stone on a mountain) and actively faces against Chakravartan (which is essentially an evil Buddha) after toppling the Seven Deities and their armies. The Seven Deities even mockingly call him a "monkey" (or "baboon" in Olga's case). And lets not forget [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PbHSaCBji4 this infamous little scene]].
* MonochromaticEyes: He is frequently depicted with the white variant of these since his resurrection.
* MrViceGuy: Like the rest of his fellow Generals, Asura was chosen among them for his affinity towards a specific mantra (who coincidentally are analogous to the SevenDeadlySins), Asura in-particular possessing affinity towards the mantra of wrath. Unlike the other generals, however, [[JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope it does not corrupt him]], choosing to direct his rage and the bloodlust it encourages in him into a zeal for good with a just cause, i.e. decimating threats to a peaceful world he wants for his wife and daughter. Even when [[UnstoppableRage his rage consumes him]] and it turns him into [[TheBerserker Wrath Asura]], the Shinkoku guards could not help but notice that even though he has been reduced to a mindless killing machine, he still avoids attacking innocent humans and demigods, exclusively targeting Shinkoku guards and gohma.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Up to six arms if he gets angry enough. Note that if you anger him to this point, [[OhCrap you should start praying]] (or not, since he doesn't like that).
* NayTheist: Taken to its obvious conclusion in the DownloadableContent. Asura does not believe that humans should have to worship gods, including himself, because the gods that they worship just cause them more suffering, pain and death. Chakravartin, the closest being in the Asura universe to an actual capital-G God, is the one responsible for the whole Gohma situation that drove the Earth's gods to do all this. After killing them all, Asura delivers an epic beatdown to Chakravartin before killing him as well.
-->'''Asura:''' There is always some ''fool'' who wants to rule the world! [[AllTakeAndNoGive Always forcing others to do what they cannot do for themselves!]] That's why I pray to no one! Nor will I be prayed to! But above all else, I will never forgive you for making my daughter cry! [[PrepareToDie This is your end!!]]
* NeckLift: Does this to Deus in episode 16.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Holds the greatest regard for innocent life out of all of the Divine Generals. Even as Wrath Asura, he focuses his rampage on the Deities' armies and the Gohma and never laid a finger on any innocent people, human or demigod.
* NighInvulnerable: with the exception of his arms.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: One of his possible counter attacks against Deus. Also delivers a rage-fueled one against Chakravartin during the second half of the final fight.
* NoIndoorVoice: He's very shouty, to say the least.
* NoSocialSkills: At the end of the day, this is Asura's biggest flaw. On the battlefield, Asura is perfectly at home punching and screaming at the top of his lungs. But take him off the battlefield and put him in the real world, you might as well be putting him in the jungle. Asura has no clue how to interact with others without violence or the threat of violence. When talking to others, Asura is gruff and abrasive, usually telling them to shut up or get out of his way. The only people he'll show any real affection towards are his family, though they know he means well. Asura himself is fully aware he's not a people's person and it greatly irritates him. He wants to be a good family man, but he doesn't know how and he bemoans the fact that the only way he knows how to comfort Mithra is to punch whatever makes her cry.
* OneManArmy: However, when he enters his Berserker form, he cranks this concept very high by decimating an entire space armada down to just a handful in a few seconds.
* OneWingedAngel: When he sees that Ahria was killed by Olga's orbital bombardment, his rage reaches such a level that he transforms into Berserker Asura, a rampaging gold-skinned monster capable of [[BeamSpam shooting down the majority of the Seven Deities' fleet]] in a matter of seconds. After tanking a blast from the Brahmastra, his Berserker form is scorched black and loses its extra arms, becoming [[ClippedWingAngel Wrath Asura]], a form that deals more damage to itself than enemies due to being overloaded with mantra, but is still extremely powerful. Notably, Berserker and Wrath are the only forms Asura achieves without outside help, so it seems Wrath mantra is naturally self-destructive.
* PapaWolf: Will stop at ''nothing'' to rescue his daughter. [[OneManArmy And may the gods have mercy on those foolish enough to get in his way.]] He's also rather protective of the human girl that bears a strong resemblance to Mithra. Even prior to the events of the game, it was shown that he was unwilling to let Mithra become the Priestess since he refused to have her become a tool of war, despite her willingness to do so.
-->'''Asura:''' How dare you make Mithra suffer for your own gain!! You will pay!!
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Also to the extreme. He's pretty much a walking nuclear missile silo ''before'' he enters Berserker state.
* PhysicalGod: And a powerful one, at that. The trope reaches its apex in his planet-sized Destructor form; With the exception of Chakravartin, this form outclasses everything else seen in the entire game with ease.
* PrimalStance: His Wrath form does this sometimes. This shows that he has completely lost it. [[NeverHurtAnInnocent Almost.]]
* ProHumanTranshuman: Asura fights to protect the humans from the other gods.
-->'''Asura:''' There is no need for gods that only TAKE!
* RageBreakingPoint: He has the remarkable ability to turn fights that had previously been exhibiting superpowers the likes the mere mortals could scarcely imagine (up to and including volleying whole ''solar systems'' at Asura), into out-and-out slugfests, just because he has pissed off his opponent ''that'' much. Unfortunately for his enemies, Asura is literally fueled by his anger, and he's been attacking under its influence for ''much'' longer, so he knows how best to direct it through his fists.
* RapidFireFisticuffs: Up close and uses the motion for throwing his projectiles.
* RebelliousSpirit: The man goes against seven gods and defeats them all while rejecting their ideals [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu AND BEATS THE CREATOR OF THE WORLD!!!]]
-->'''Asura:''' I pray to no one! NOR WILL I BE PRAYED TO!
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Before dying he had bright red eyes.
* RedSkyTakeWarning: After he defeated Wyzen, the sky turns red. It's never a good thing.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Yasha's blue. Visually expressed through their auras.
-->'''Yasha:''' You are a fool who only knows how to break things!\
'''Asura:''' Then I will break EVERYTHING! Including [[CrapsackWorld this living hell!]]
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: He vows to avenge the death of his wife Durga and destroy the Seven Deities for wronging him.
* RoaringRampageOfRescue: Along with swearing vengeance against Deus and the other former generals for wronging him he wants to save his child Mithra from further torment.
* RocketPunch: In his Mantra and Destructor forms he is able to shot massive amounts of mantra out of his elbows that he can use to propel him forward. He can also use it to enhance the power of his punches.
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: Asura really doesn't seem to understand how to interact with other people without violence or the threat of violence. He really wants to be a better husband and father, but he just doesn't know how.
* TheScream: Nearly the entirety of Episode 12's conclusion once he sees the corpse of Ahria.
* ScreamingWarrior: This is an Asura trademark, given his berserker tactics and his utter rage.
* TheStoic: Usually quiet outside of battle. But when he gets going, [[LargeHam he really gets going]].
* StopWorshippingMe: When worshiped by villagers, he immediately tells them to stop.
* SuckingInLines: His energy ball styled attacks as Berserker Asura does this.
* SuperMode: Asura has several transformations that increase his power when he accumulates enough Mantra.
** Unlimited Mode/Trikaya can be triggered when its gauge is filled, which for a brief time covers him in orange TronLines, gives him invulnerability and increased stats, as well as infinite stamina for his heavy attacks (i.e. he doesn't overheat after making one).
** Vajra, his most common form, covers his arms in golden metal and increases his attack power.
** His six-armed Vajra form adds [[MultiArmedAndDangerous four extra arms]] to the mix, ramping up his punching power even more.
** His Mantra/Prajna form outfits him with massive arms (made by combining ''thousands'' of Vajra arms) that can vent jets of Mantra, and while not as strong as [[OneWingedAngel Berserker]], is much more balanced, is the strongest form he can achieve without tearing himself apart pre-implant.
** The Destructor form was only attained after getting the Karma Fortress' mantra reactor inserted into him by Yasha in order for his body to handle the enormous amounts of mantra and transforms him into a gigantic form bigger than Gaea with power equal to a god's. Its human-sized version used in his final fight against Chakravartin resembles Mantra form with six arms.
** And overall, even if he loses his transformations from the damages he receives in battle such as [[AnArmAndALeg losing his arms]] or being BackToBaseForm, his accumulated Mantra would make him stay as strong as his current SuperMode transformation.
* SuperPowerMeltdown: Happens to him in the end of episode 11.5.
* SuperStrength: He's strong enough to launch the massive Taison officers in the air, as well as throw around the elephant-like Gohma Crushers ''and'' repel Gongen Wyzen's planetary FingerPokeOfDoom!
* TakenForGranite: Happens to him every time he dies.
* TalkToTheFist: In every boss fight, Asura has the option to "Shut (X) Up" by running up and punching them in the face while they're monologuing.
* TitleDrop: A subtle example done by Asura himself. During the FinalBoss, he claims to Chakravartin that he, himself, understands the reason for his (Asura's) wrath.
* TokenGoodTeammate: When he worked with the other demigods, believe it or not, he probably held the most regard for innocent life out of all of them. It's not really apparent until after the fact, though. Whereas every one of his teammates either doesn't have that instinct or suppresses it like hell.
* TragicMonster: Berserker and Wrath Asura, post episode 12. Only Yasha is able to get him out of it.
* TranquilFury: His [[EleventhHourSuperpower Mantra Asura]] form. His anger hasn't diminished in the slightest, but he's much more focused in this form.
* TronLines: Asura's SuperMode causes the joints in his body to glow red.
* {{Tsundere}}: Before being betrayed. Gentle and kind to his wife Durga and daughter Mithra, angry and usually very aggressive towards everyone else, and interestingly, his daughter Mithra is voiced by "the tsundere queen" Creator/RieKugimiya.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's not a very subtle or tactical fighter. He frequently charges headlong into things and smashes them with insane, brute force, relying on his UnstoppableRage to fuel him. And more often than not, this works against even much more skilled opponents. His traditional rival and friend Yasha is the only one capable of beating him with skill over brute force.
* UnstoppableRage: When Asura gets mad he gets really mad, and the madder he gets the stronger he gets, and ''nothing'' will stop him from getting his revenge. The man's basically wrath given flesh.
* UnwittingPawn: He was used as a scapegoat by the other deities, which kick-starts the plot of the game.
* UpUpAndAway: Often does the arms out forward when flying or gliding in the air.
* UseYourHead: When he has no arms, though he does kick, this is his preferred finisher.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Many of his battles with Yasha seem more like superpowered sibling squabbles than actual fights. Yasha is the only opponent that Asura actually mourns for.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He doesn't seem to wear shirts that often, if at all.
* WeakButSkilled: Surprisingly, this is one of his greatest strengths, if not the greatest. The few times Asura faces an enemy he can't beat with screaming and punching as hard as he can, such as [[{{God}} Chakravartin]], Asura manages to adapt and fight with more restraint and skill to overcome him. When facing Chakravartin's final form head on, Chakravartin manages to get Asura kicked all the way down to his base form due to his superior physical might, but later instead of overwhelming him with strength, he uses his agility to outmaneuver and redirect Chakravartin's attacks.
* WipeTheFloorWithYou: Does this to Wyzen at the end of the first part of their fight. Also does this to an EliteMook in Chapter 9, and to [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIV Oni]] in ''Lost Episode 2''.
* WorldsStrongestMan: Asura is by far the strongest out everyone in the series, especially after getting the Karma Fortress' mantra reactor inserted into him, where since then he can defeat the creator of the world through sheer anger.
* WouldNotShootACivilian: [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge Surprisingly]], Asura ''exclusively'' targets beings that have wronged him, along with anyone who deliberately tries to stop him from doing so. And woe betide anyone who ''would'' attack a civilian.
* YoureInsane: Says this to Deus in episode 2 after the latter lets him on about his twisted plan to win the war against the Gohma.

She is able to freely manipulate and amplify the demigods' source of power -- Mantra. Deus kidnaps her in order to use her power for his own. Before Emperor Strada's assassination, she was one of the candidates to succeed the throne.
----
* BroughtDownToNormal: After the death of Chakravartin and [[TheMagicGoesAway Mantra]], Mithra is made into a mortal.
* TheChosenOne: Was chosen to be Priestess specifically because she had the capacity to manipulate Mantra. [[PapaWolf Asura was not pleased.]] She is also the Chakravartin's chosen vessel.
* DemonicPossession: Happens in the game's true ending.
* EverybodysDeadDave: She's the only named character left alive by the end of the game.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Praying seems a bit... passive, for such a ultraviolent game, but it essentially ''exponentiates'' PowerLevels if she's properly motivated.
* HolyHalo: One of the biggest out of all of them, and tied with Deus as the most flashy looking, but less than her father's.
* MeaningfulName: She's named after the Persian god of light. It might seem out of place at first in a game influenced by Hindu and Buddhist Mythology but it makes better sense if you consider the Indo-Iranian connection. [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitra Mitra]] can mean friend, promise, treaty, etc. or is a Vedic (ancient Hindu) deity of those qualities.
* NarratorAllAlong: The end of the game reveals that she was telling Asura's story to two young children.
* NiceGirl: Is always kind and never shows Yasha any animosity despite having every reason to hate him for the harm he helped cause, even praying for his and Asura's safe return when they go off to fight Vlitra once and for all.

* TearfulSmile: As Asura dies his final death.
* TraumaCongaLine: She sees both her parents murdered, is used as power source for the Brahmastra (with her ''uncle'' being one of her kidnappers), watches as ''seven trillion'' innocent people are slaughtered for 12,500 years, is held hostage by Chakravartin, has to watch Chakravartin beat the crap out of Asura and Yasha and nearly kill the former, and is still held hostage by Chakravartin when he talks about destroying Gaea and then recreating it if Asura doesn't satisfy his plans.

!The Seven Deities
[[folder:In General]]
Formerly The Eight Guardian Generals, they became known as the Seven Deities after betraying the current emperor and one of their own, Asura himself, and killing them both, usurping the role as rulers of Shinkoku in order to bring about a "Great Rebirth".
----
* AGodAmI: All of them share this mindset post betrayal of both Asura and the Emperor to varying degrees of severity.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: The Complete Karma Fortress is able to literally stand above the entire planet Earth, and his hands are big enough to grab onto it like a beach ball (even before gaining a torso when Deus fuses with it).
** Concept art from the game in the official complete works shows that it was originally going to be even bigger, though it had to be scaled back due to console limitations. It was originally supposed to be so big it made the Earth and the moon look like specks of dust compared to it. And Asura in his Destructor form is meant to be bigger than that.
* BattleAura: All are colored according to whatever Mantra affinity each one has.
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: Call Asura a "traitor" without irony.
* EvilVirtues: Originally the MrViceGuy alongside Asura, their desire to protect Gaea from the Gohma would eventually become warped into an [[AmbitionIsEvil ambition]] to [[AGodAmI attain godhood]], their belief in [[TheNeedsOfTheMany the greater good]] resulting in them sacrificing ''trillions'' of innocent people that they have made into a MartyrdomCulture to attain higher reserves of Mantra. Even then, the only ones who still hold onto these virtues by the time Asura exacts his revenge is Yasha (who eventually defects when he realizes that there are better ways to defeat the Gohma) and Deus (who's {{Pride}} has given him the biggest god-complex of them all), the rest of them either more interested in attaining power (Wyzen, Kalrow and Olga) or have never really believed in the cause to begin with and stayed for personal gain (Sergei and Augus).
* FaceHeelTurn: Towards Asura and the Emperor.
* FlyingBrick: A requirement to be one of the Seven Deities is to be able to manipulate Mantra to an extent where you physically become one of these.
* FourStarBadass: All of the seven deities (eight counting Asura pre-betrayal) were all direct commanders of the Shinkoku army under the direction of the then-current emperor.
* HateSink: With the exception of Yasha, and perhaps Augus, almost all of them are murderers who would gladly abuse their positions for personal gain or enjoyment, to the point of sabotaging Deus's plans, and treating the humans as below them.
* InformedAbility: Wyzen is stated to be the weakest, so supposedly, Karlow, Olga, and Sergei are stronger than him, but they are never seen fighting.
* LegacyCharacter: All of the Seven Deities as Guardian Generals acted like this. Whenever a previous Guardian General of a certain Mantra type either died or willingly passed down their title, a new Guardian General would take their place. Sometimes, the successor had to fight the predecessor in order to become one.
* LightIsNotGood: All have holy halos, light clothes, and were modelled after Dharmic deities. Some also have [[LightEmUp bright energy attacks]].
* {{Magitek}}: Both used to create their ultimate weapon, The Brahmastra, and to create internal Mantra Reactors to power up their already impressive Mantra manipulation powers. It is implied that all of their advanced tech is Mantra-powered, since it was their discovery of Mantra that led to TheSingularity in themselves and their technology and the eradication of Mantra by Chakravartin's death is what leads to Shinkoku's civilization dying out with him.
* TheNeedsOfTheMany: The general philosophy behind the creation of the Seven Deities and their plan is that they are willing to sacrifice anyone and anything - even if it was their troops, their lives and their loved one's lives - if it meant ending the war with the Gohma and securing the demigod race's supremacy of the planet. It is this idea that makes them a {{Foil}} to [[SmallStepsHero Asura]], as while they would try to appeal to his sense of altruism by citing their plans of riding Gaea of the Gohma, Asura could not care less and is unwilling to make those sacrifices, motivated by his need to protect both his daughter and the mortals.
--> '''Deus''': My purpose has always been for the cause.
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: Most of them seem to care more for the personal power and respect they've obtained over actually stopping the Gohma for good. Even Augus doesn't seem really care about any humans he's not directly involved with and expresses some disappointment in actually finishing the Gohma off [[BloodKnight to leave him bereft of good fights]]. Deus is a complicated example because he ''is'' still dedicated to stopping the Gohma for good, but his pride blinds him to alternatives that go against what he believes is the "only" way to win.
* PhysicalGod: Even by demigod standards, they count as this.
* ThePsychoRangers: Similar to LegionOfDoom, each member of the Seven Deities has their own role in game:
** The BigBad: Deus, De facto leader and commander of all the Demigod Forces who killed the Emperor Strada and set Asura up as the patsy in order to use Mithra's mantra powers to achieve The Great Rebrith. Deus's Mantra Affinity is Pride.
** The NumberTwo: Olga, Deus' second-in-command and commander of the Shinkoku Orbital Fleet. She is [[UndyingLoyalty absolutely loyal]] towards Deus and follows his orders without question,[[spoiler: especially when she tried to kill Mithra in order to [[AvengingTheVillain avenge Deus]].]] Olga's Mantra Affinity is Lust.
** The [[TheDragon Dragon]]: Sergei, Deus's right-hand man and Collector of Souls. He is [[TheSociopath an extremely effeminate demigod with a penchant for referring to things with a sense of beauty or hideousness in destruction]] [[spoiler: and responsible for Durga's death during the coup d'etat.]] Sergei's Mantra Affinity is Vanity.
** The [[TheBrute Brute]]: Wyzen, Collector of Souls and Demigod Powerhouse. He is very cocky, arrogant and brutish as well as lacking in common sense and intelligence (best seen when he emphasizes his greatness), and discriminates against humans as greatly inferior beings to himself and his kind. Wyzen's Mantra Affinity is Violence.
** The [[BloodKnight Blood Knight]]: Augus, Deus' old rival and Asura's mentor. Unlike most of the Seven Deities, Augus is very honorable, ruthless and incredibly bloodthirsty on the battlefield, finding enjoyment in the pleasures of life such as fighting, eating, drinking, and [[AmazonChaser sleeping with beautiful women.]] Augus's Mantra Affinity is Greed.
** The [[TheStrategist Strategist]]: Karlow, the tactician and battle strategist for the Demigod Forces. He is a very cunning and sly tactician [[BrilliantButLazy who usually has others carry out his dirty work]], and rarely makes an effort to do anything himself. Karlow's Mantra Affinity is Sloth.
** The [[TheRival Rival]]: Yasha, Deus' personal pupil and Asura's brother-in-law and rival. He is only [[TokenGoodTeammate Deity]] whose motivation remains consistent (saving Gaea from the Gohma no matter the sacrifice), and grieves for his own sacrifices (the death of his sister, the enslavement of his niece and the harvested souls of trillions of humans) while power eventually corrupts the other six. The golden mask he wear is to hide his sorrow and guilt for his actions. [[spoiler: Later pulls a HeelFaceTurn after realizing his cause can be achieved in other ways, and joins Asura in his fight to free Mithra and defeat Deus]]. Yasha's Matra Affinity is Melancholy.
* SpaceBase: The Karma Fortress.
* WaveMotionGun: The Brahmastra, a part of the Karma fortress inside its forehead. It's positioned directly above Earth when it needs to be used, functioning as a satellite laser in use against the Gohma.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: Even when they were the Eight Guardian Generals, they don't seem to get along. They were all perfectly willing to frame Asura -- one of their own members -- for murder for Deus' plan, Yasha mourns the Mantra Wyzen wasted trying to kill Asura rather than his fallen comrade, Olga insults and hates anyone who looks like they're disrespecting Deus, Deus abuses Olga whenever she annoys him, Sergei is a sadist who is not above killing innocent people (including Asura's wife) and mocks his ally Yasha with it and the list just goes on and on. One cannot help but wonder how they were willing to work with each other after they became Gaea's ruling class.

The leader of the Seven Deities.

A Demigod who once was the Commander of the Eight Guardian Generals. After betraying Emperor Strada and framing Asura for his death, Deus took the rest of the generals and formed the Seven Deities.

They rule over Shinkoku Trastrium as self-proclaimed gods. Deus takes much pride in being the "protector" of the world, and believes that his actions are righteous.

He has a brash way of speaking, though since he has absolute confidence in his abilities, it does not come across as offensive or unpleasant.

His Mantra affinity is {{Pride}}.
----
* AllForNothing: With the knowledge that Chakravartin is able to call forth Gohma even without Vlitra's presence, had things gone his way, his plans for a "Great Rebirth" would have ultimately amounted to this had Chakravartin not been impressed by him as a successor.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: After fusing with the Karma Fortress to become Sakra Devanam Indra Deus.
* AwesomeEgo: A defining characteristic InUniverse. While he could be described as arrogant or a braggart, most people who know him consider him to be endearingly and sincerely frank about his capabilities, because he ''can'' back any of those claims up.
-->'''Deus:''' My destruction would mean the end of civilization. That is why I am invincible!
* BadassCape: He wears a small cape behind him.
* BadassInANiceSuit: As a human, after the game is beaten.
* BeardOfEvil: Albeit, he does not plan to be evil for the rest of his life, just for now.
* BigBadEnsemble: With the [[EldritchAbomination Gohma Viltra]]. Deus leads the Seven Deities who killed Asura's wife, so ItsPersonal between them and fighting his forces takes up much of the game. It's later revealed that both were merely pawns of the real bad guy, Chakravartin.
* BlingOfWar: The man wears a lot of gold.
* TheChosenOne: {{Subverted|Trope}}. A lot of Deus' actions make sense if one assumes he sees himself as this. After all, he's the leader of the Eight Guardian Generals and later the Seven Deities, bears the most powerful Mantra of all, and even to the end he repeatedly refers to himself as the only one who can defeat Vlitra, the most powerful and feared being known to the world that would devour the souls of all living beings on Gaea if left unchecked. However, considering the fact [[{{God}} Chakravartin]] clearly favors Asura over all others and encourages him to fight both the Gohma and his old Demigod comrades, it's clear that Deus was always meant to just be a stepping stone for Asura to reach even greater heights in Chakravartin's goal to make him a new supreme deity.
* CoolMask: As [[SuperMode Sakra Devanam Indra Deus]], he dons a mask of energy that looks like two yellow lightning bolts suspended over his face and covering his eyes.
* {{Determinator}}: It took several battles to slow him down at all, with him stepping up his game each time. At many points, you get to see him NoSell Asura's and Yasha's combined might through sheer force of will. He even refuses to die once he'd gotten 12,000+ years of power beaten out of him!
* DiscOneFinalBoss: As revealed in the last of the non-downloadable chapters, and even further after that.
* EpicFlail: Of the Nunchaku variety. He wields electric nunchakus known as the Sakras.
* EvilOverlord: He takes over from the Emperor and rules as god.
-->'''Deus:''' I am the god that carries the fate of civilization on his shoulders. All who oppose me are guilty of blasphemy! You are a danger to my world! [[PrepareToDie Consider your lives forfeit!]]
* EvilSoundsDeep: Both of his voice actors (English and Japanese) give him steely, commanding baritones.
* {{Expy}}: His face is nearly identical to [[Franchise/TheLegendofZelda Ganondorf]]'s. With all the ''VideoGame/GodOfWar'' parallels, his lightning abilities and role in the story at first are reminiscent of Zeus.
%%* FinalBoss: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]].
* FlashStep: With lightning streaks.
* AGodAmI: Played quite interestingly. He sees his god status as more of a title that he needs to wear during this time until the Great Rebirth, where he plans to resign. However, by the end of the game, it seems the [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity power has gone to his head.]]
-->'''Deus:''' To fight the will of the entire planet, you must attain power greater than that of a god. Behold, this is that very power. Destiny has a master and it is me!
* HolyHalo: Although the name certainly doesn't fit him, his is nevertheless one of the most grand looking, second only to Asura's.
* HonestCorporateExecutive: Surprisingly, his reincarnation is this, as he takes time out of his work to help an old man cross a street (who is [[{{Irony}} Emperor Strada reincarnated]]).
* IgnoredExpert: Despite having fought the Gohma for millennia, Emperor Strada refused to listen to him, which is why Deus killed him, since he started to view him as an obstacle to permanently destroying Vlitra. At least, he FEELS he's an ignored expert. The emperor's plan of cutting their loses and move to another planet so that their citizens didn't have to suffer from the Gohma WASN'T a bad one, and considering that they had been fighting the Gohma for eons without making any headway, was tactically a good choice as well (granted, neither of them knew about Chakravartin and his desire for a "successor", so even that likely wouldn't have worked since he could have made more Gohma wherever they landed). If anything, Deus's fatal flaw, his pride, had a hand in betraying the emperor, as his pride wouldn't allow him to accept that all he did was for nothing.
* {{Irony}}: His Mantra affinity, Pride, was considered to be best suited for someone to rule with, and yet he ended up becoming one of Gaea's greatest villains with that power.
* KnightTemplar: Does he do terrible things? Very much so. Does believe he has good reasons for doing them? Yes he does, to the point, before MotiveDecay set in, he claimed he would have resigned once he finished his mission. Does that make what he does any less despicable? Asura sure doesn't think so.
-->'''Deus:''' This planet considers the mortals its enemy and is trying to devour all their souls. This planet denies our very birthright. Yes, this world is Hell. That's why sacrifices must be made in order to save it. No matter how many mortal souls it cost!
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Show justice" and "Already you must recite it".
* LightningBruiser: He's incredibly fast and strong.
* LightIsNotGood: His Mantra manifests as white in color, he wears white robes accented with golden armor, and he's one of the biggest enemies the Asura and Yasha face in the story.
* MeaningfulName:
** "Deus" is the Latin word for god and he's, well... a god. Another root for his name is Dyeus Piter, the Indo-European sky deity that is the prototype for lightning-wielding celestial king gods from Indra to Odin to Zeus, and Dyaus (or Dyaus-Pita), an acient vedic god of the skies derived from Dyeus.
** The name of his SuperMode, "Sakra Devanam Indra Deus", has multiple. "Sakra" is a Sanskrit word meaning "mighty" or "powerful", while "Devanam" meanwhile means "lord of the Devas", with "deva" being a title given to gods. It's effectively saying "[[TopGod mighty lord of the gods]]", which Deus is as the leader of the Seven Deities. This is also a title shared by the Hindu celestial lightning-wielding god-king Indra, who Deus effectively ''is'' in the context of the game particularly in his desire to slay Vlitra, itself named after the dragon that the mythological Indra ''did'' in fact slay.
* MotiveDecay: While in the beginning, Deus was an honorable and charismatic man, if a bit extreme with reasonable goals, 12500 years with all the power and Yasha's betrayal finally took its toll on his sanity. He still wants to destroy Vlitra, yes, but now he no longer cares how many must die to do it.
* NecessarilyEvil: Rather than try to avenge the Guardian General killed by Augus, he simply gives Augus his job because he needs all the help he can get against the Gohma. Deus later claims to have considered every last alternative to what he ended up doing in regards to defeating Gohma Vlitra for good.
-->'''Deus:''' At times one must throw a stone into stagnant waters to set things in motion.
** Subverted in that the Emperor's idea of seeking out a new home, the choice that made Deus betray him, could have been used to give his forces time to build up their strength elsewhere so that they could return later and retake the planet from the Gohma, not that this possibility was ever discussed in-game. Instead, he enacted a very wasteful plan that would reduce the normal people of the world to more and more primitive and superstitious with every passing century, their previous advanced society destroyed, and the people themselves reduced to nothing more than a fuel source for his plan to gather enough power to kill Vlitra. He's never called out on this, as very few were actually aware of the Emperor's decision to evacuate the planet.
* NiceGuy: Well, not originally, but his reincarnation is shown to be a high-ranking corporate executive who risks being late for an important meeting in order to help a struggling old man crossing the street, and absolutely refuses to think of doing otherwise.
* PowerLimiter: His cape, as shown in Episode 15.5, is weighed and hits the floor hard enough to make a dent in it when he casually lets it drop off his shoulders.
* {{Pride}}: His Mantra affinity. Especially noticeable as he is dying, when he says that he is the only one capable of killing Gohma Vlitra. It's also his FatalFlaw; he would NEVER conceive of withdrawing from fighting the Gohma under ANY circumstances, even if it meant giving the people some respite from the dangers of their world and his forces time to recover and strengthen for a rematch. Even to the very end, he refused to believe that none but himself could permanently kill Vlitra and scoffed at Asura's intent to, despite the fact Asura had just proved himself stronger with their final fight.
* PsychoElectro: He is a little off of his rocker by the time Asura gets to really fight him.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: According to Olga, Deus was given the most powerful Mantra due to his position as the leader of the Seven Deities, and he sure lives up to that. He kills Asura in the prologue, was the only person until Asura to force [[BloodKnight Augus]] to draw his sword and go all-out in the game's backstory, is able to fight Asura and Yasha at the same time and nearly beats them, and [[NoSell shrugged off]] everything Yasha threw at him when he tried fighting him on his own.
-->'''Deus:''' Time to send you back to Naraka.\
'''Asura:''' [[BringIt You can try]].\
'''Deus:''' Fear not, you won't feel a thing.
%%* SanitySlippage
* ScaryBlackMan: Not so noticeable when the protagonist is blood-red, but he's notably dark-skinned in a world of seemingly light-skinned South/Central Asians.
* SequentialBoss: Especially in the second fight against him.
* ShockAndAwe: And he has a thunder sound to go with the lightning effects. Specifically, he's shown firing lightning bolts in a DeathFromAbove manner, launching them in waves, or electrifying his nun-chucks to increase their range and power.
* ShutUpKirk: During his final battle with Asura, he responds to Asura declaring ThisIsUnforgivable with the blunt "Your forgiveness is meaningless!"
* SuperMode: Sakra Devanam Indra Deus, in which he fights Yasha and Six-Armed Asura ''at the same time'' and nearly beats them.
* TeleportSpam: Either that or FlashStep, but it's too fast to tell.
-->'''Deus''': Over here.
* TopGod: Clearly considers himself such as the leader of the Seven Deities, making him a "King of Gods" example.
* TheUsurper: Killed the Emperor to gain control of the world.
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Revealed to be Chakravartin's pawn in order to make Asura his heir.]]
* VillainHasAPoint:
** Well, okay, not really THAT much, but one could argue that his claims of wanting to end the Gohma's threat permanently is an understandable feeling that others could share...only this claim falls flat when it's made pretty clear that his intentions weren't good even from the beginning and he seems to be more concerned with establishing himself as THE one who has the wisdom to end the wars and suffering, and is far too deluded by his own pride to be reasoned with that he has taken his plans too far.
** In Episode 15.5, he tells Yasha that if he truly believes he can stop the Gohma and save the world without sacrificing anymore human souls and that he (Deus) is wrong, then Yasha should prove it by besting him in combat and showing his newfound strength firsthand. Despite Yasha's rekindled idealism and awakened power, his best attack that managed to defeat Wrath Asura fails to faze Deus, proving Deus' point that even if he's "wrong", Yasha's effective plan to fight and kill Vlitra head-on is even more doomed to fail in the long run at his current level of strength.
%%* VillainInAWhiteSuit: The suit that he wears is primarily white.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Everything he did was for the purpose of permanently destroying Gohma Vlitra. Unfortunately, there were alternatives to his insane plan that he didn't consider because his pride blinded him, and at the end, it ended up all being for nothing, ultimately making him a NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist.
-->'''Asura:''' Save the world by turning the souls of humans into Mantra? Was that the best you could think of?
* YellowLightningBlueLightning: The lightning that Deus generates when using his powers is black with white outlines.

[[quoteright:316:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Yasha1_9320.png]]

The [[{{Deuteragonist}} second main character]] of Asura's Wrath. A demigod and one of the Seven Deities, he is Asura's rival and brother-in-law.

Cool, calm, and collected, Yasha is well versed in both literary and military arts. He and Asura both joined the Eight Guardian Generals at the same time.

He is the older brother of Durga, Asura's wife. Though she is tragically killed in Deus' coup d'etat, Yasha's beliefs in the cause are stronger than his feelings for family. Due to the world's suffering, he always has a melancholy expression on his face.

His Mantra affinity is [[DespairEventHorizon Melancholy]].
----
* AceCustom: His jet bike, the Corvette Lone Wolf, has power equal to the Septentrion flagships used by the other deities while being able to fit only one person to ride on it.
* AntiVillain: Is the only Deity who (openly) feels any form of guilt for his actions. Later becomes a straight up hero after switching sides.
* BadassBoast:
-->'''Asura:''' Who do you think you are?!
-->'''Yasha (calmly):''' God.
* BashBrothers: Does this with Asura in Episode 18/True Episode 18. Asura later lampshades it after his death.
-->'''Asura:''' You were always a brother, never an enemy.
* BeardOfSorrow: Given his melancholy affinity.
* TheBrute: After Wyzen dies, Yasha essentially takes over this role for the Seven Deities as their muscle and primary fighter. Unlike most examples, he is the strongest of the underlings.
* CharClone: Aside from the lack of blond hair, his face mask, demeanor, and level of power make him seem to be one. He even has an AceCustom vehicle to set himself apart from the other deities.
* CoDragons: With Sergei, appearing to have the role of enforcer to Sergei's assassin.
* CoolBike: The Corvette Lone Wolf is a single-seat air speeder that Yasha can apparently summon at will.
* DeathGlare: Gives one to Sergei after the latter [[spoiler:confesses to Durga's murder.]]
-->'''Sergei:''' Oh, how boring. I thought you would show me a more beautiful face than that.
* {{Determinator}}: Compared to Asura, it might not seem like much, but that whole fight with him in episode 21? That's after he basically ''ripped his own heart out''.
** Said heart is supposed to be granting him all his awesome superpowers. He still manages to match Asura punch for punch (who at that point has the power of all ''eight'' deities), and even enters his [[SuperMode Vajra mode]] in the last part of the battle and stays in it '''indefinitely''', only falling out of it after Asura lands his last Burst attack.
** Also didn't quit when fighting Deus despite being outmatched.
* DiedStandingUp: In the middle of a punch.
* DiesWideOpen: We see this when his mask breaks after the final confrontation. The reason he put on the mask in the first place was to hide the fact that his eyes had become clouded after ripping out his own Mantra Reactor.
* TheDragon: One to Deus, loyal to a fault, at first.
* EasilyForgiven: Despite all the harm he helped cause, Mithra never shows him any animosity even after he himself says he didn't deserve to be called her uncle.
* EmptyEyes: Wore his mask in his final battle in order to hide this.
* {{Expy}}: Of Rei from the original ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'': A mostly chivalrous martial artist who is nonetheless capable of brutish thuggery when he feels pragmatism demands it. He becomes TheLancer to a musclebound AntiHero who kills villains with his fists, with his speed and finesse complimenting the latter's brute strength and force. He dies in a mixture of HeroicSacrifice and DyingMomentOfAwesome, but goes out with a smile despite the intense pain he was in during his final moments. Yasha's fighting style also has very strong visual similarities to Rei's ''Nanto Seiken'' form, sharing the basic principle of using air pressure to externally slice targets like a blade.
** Yasha is a calm, cool, sorta brother, sorta rival that reluctantly works with the villain but eventually sides with the hero and has a whistling theme in a Capcom game, just like Proto Man from ''VideoGame/MegaManClassic''.
* FaceHeelTurn: Because he sees the reason in Deus's cause, at least until he feels that cause has degenerated.
-->'''Yasha:''' Even gods must dirty their hands.
* FlashStep: Again, trained by Deus.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Asura. He focuses more on speed and finesse to Asura's brute strength and force. Not quite an EvilCounterpart but very much a contrast.
** Also one to Wyzen, the other Brute of the Seven Deities. Wyzen was a simple, thuggish, arrogant FatBastard with nothing but his own overwhelming size to offer and used Mantra as a crutch. Yasha meanwhile used nothing but his own strength to fight and was a much deeper character.
** Even serves a one to Deus a bit as well. Deus claims to have the best intentions with his Great Rebirth, but he is ultimately a proud sociopath who sees mortals as nothing but a tool to an end and is only concerned with his mission, whereas Yasha is actually sympathetic towards mortals and is genuinely concerned with saving the world and hates the idea of slaughtering people to fulfill the Seven Deities' plan.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Performs this on Wrath Asura.
--> If you won't listen to reason, ''then listen to my fists!''
* AGodAmI: As shown in his BadassBoast, though he proves to be more empathetic to the mortals than the other deities.
* GoOutWithASmile: Which is a good sign he was dead, given he is powered by melancholy. In fact, his last fight was just to make Asura happy so it should have been apparent he was going for this in hindsight.
* HandshakeSubstitute: Receives a fist bump from Asura. Or rather, his corpse does, right before he dissipates.
* HeelFaceTurn: Fittingly enough, this happens when he can no longer hide his face beneath a mask.
-->'''Yasha:''' When you live among the stars, you lose sight of what is happening on the ground.
* HeroicSacrifice: Rips out his own heart to infuse Asura's Mantra Reactor with its power, then duels Asura to the death to awaken his new power.
-->'''Yasha:''' Do not be mistaken. I am not saving you. You must face an even greater hell than this. Get up Asura! It is time to save Mithra and end this!
* HolyHalo: Mostly subverted for a while whereas the rest of the demigods, and Asura obviously, all reveal their own at different points beforehand. Played straight when he gains enough power to severely damage the Brahmastra and later during his fights with Wrath Asura and Deus.
* ImplacableMan: Asura's attacks don't even so much as faze him, until Asura headbutts him.
* InformedDeformity: Downplayed; the first time Asura knocks Yasha's mask off, he comments that Yasha is "ugly as ever" beneath it, even though from the viewer's perspective he looks fine. Since no one else in the game remarks upon his appearance, it's difficult to know how to take this comment; Asura might just be talking nonsense in his anger, or he might have meant it metaphorically. To the average player, Yasha's probably average-looking at worst.
* TheLancer: To Asura, once he initiates his HeelFaceTurn.
* TheLastDance: The entire final battle with him.
-->'''Yasha''': The end of the world of which he spoke could begin at any moment. We are out of options. His power is too great. There is only one way.\
'''Asura:''' What do you mean?\
'''Yasha:''' Let us decide once and for all.\
'''Asura:''' Decide what?\
'''Yasha:''' Who is stronger!
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Orphan Wolf Legend". It has three variations, "Wind", "Fang" and "Bonds": "Wind" plays for quiet and dramatic scenes, "Fang" is for action sequences including his first two fights with Asura, and "Bonds" is reserved for his last boss fight.
* LightningBruiser: In a contrast to Asura, he is more lightning than bruiser, though he is still really strong. He's a little weaker, much quicker, easier to control, and can keep pressure on single enemies like bosses more easily.
* MeaningfulName: Like Asura, Yasha has its origins in Hinduism and Buddhism. ''Yasha'' is the Japanese reading of the Sanskrit word ''Yaksha'', a class of supernatural spirit. Yaksha can be benevolent guardians of nature, fearsome warriors or violent demons, and sometimes all three. In many of the cultures and religions they're associated with, Yaksha are [[MyMasterRightOrWrong loyal soldiers or servants of a certain deity or king]].
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Believed in Deus' cause in spite of all the suffering that comes from it, believing it was the only way to win the war with the Gohma. Until he fights Wrath Asura and realizes there ''were'' other ways. He even calls himself a demon for being willing to follow the cause.
-->'''Yasha:''' Asura! We, the Seven Deities, have chosen to bear this world on our shoulders. [[LovedINotHonorMore We must see the cause through, even if it invites tragedy upon ourselves]]. [[GondorCallsForAid Gaea needs saving]]. You must want the same for her. If so, then lend us your power! It is not too late for you!
* NinjaRun: The both-arms-pulled-back fashion, befitting his agile style.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: In-universe, he has his moments of fury expressed while doing something amazing. In gameplay terms, he shares the same controls as Asura. He admits as such in Episode 21.
-->'''Yasha:''' It seems your anger is rubbing off on me...
* NotSoStoic: Happens during and after his HeelFaceTurn.
-->'''Yasha:''' You idiot! [[HeroicRROD You'll destroy yourself with your own power!]] He is the enemy. I should dispose of him where he stands. But my soul tells me different. It screams to me: DO NOT LET HIM DIE!
%%* PlotlineDeath: Episode 21.
* RazorSharpHand: He does a lot of karate chops with choppy sounds to accompany them.
* RazorWind: With his freaking hands.
%%* ReallyDeadMontage
* ReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one to Asura during their first post-resurrection fight (which ends with Asura's second death).
-->'''Yasha:''' There is no longer a place for you in this world. Do you realize Wyzen wasted hundreds of millions of souls just to fight you? I suppose not -- you are not familiar with our way of life. Because of this, your existence threatens everything we've worked for. You are an evil that will throw our world into chaos!
%%* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Asura's red. Visually expressed through their auras.
%%-->'''Yasha:''' Things have changed!\
%%'''Asura:''' NOTHING has changed!\
%%'''Yasha:''' How would you, the Fallen, know?\
%%'''Asura:''' More than you!
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: By the time of Yasha's death, Asura stated after their fight that he never considered Yasha an enemy and that he was always a brother.
%%* TheRival: To Asura since they were both recruited into the Guardian Generals, with their instructors being rivals to boot.
%%-->'''Augus:''' My student versus your student... how about we put their skills to the test after their training?\
%%'''Deus:''' I doubt you'd be able to train him well, but why not?\
%%'''Yasha:''' But Commander! [[TemptingFate I hardly think a hot-headed ruffian like him would ever be a worthy opponent]].\
%%'''Asura:''' [[BringIt Come again?]]
* RuleOfSymbolism: Yasha is notably for not revealing his halo until he decides to save Asura from being killed by Olga firing the Brahmastra then later when freeing Asura from his Wrath form and later defying and abandoning Deus; from a sinner to a saint!
* SamuraiCowboy: Has a bit of this going for him. Just listen to this theme music, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjSA57H5lyQ Wind]]", and it's made even more obvious. [[WebVideo/TheAngryJoeShow Angry Joe]] even lampshades it.
* TheStoic: Took on this personality when acting under Deus' orders.
* StrongAndSkilled: While Asura is the type to [[UnskilledButStrong wail on his target with mindless ferocity until it dies]], Yasha has much more finesse and control. This combined with the same threshold of raw power as other demigods and it becomes very obvious why he earned the rank of Guardian General. In practice, Yasha has beaten Asura more often then Asura has beaten him.
* SuperMode: His Vajra form is equivalent to Asura's Unlimited Mode, covering him in blue TronLines and granting him greatly increased speed and agility as well as infinite stamina for a short duration; unlike Asura, however, he's not invulnerable during this state.
* ThisCannotBe: A minor one after Asura's third resurrection:
-->'''Yasha:''' Even Augus could not defeat you... why? Why do you keep coming back? What is it that you are fighting for? And this power of yours, how can it surpass the power that took us 12000 years to attain?
* TokenGoodTeammate: Among the Seven Deities, Yasha is the only member who's motivation remains consistent (willing to do anything to save Gaea from the Gohma no matter the sacrifice) and grieves for his own sacrifices (the death of his sister, the enslavement of his niece and the harvested souls of trillions of humans) while the power eventually corrupts the other six. Even though he develops a god complex like the others, he acknowledges that gods are not above scrutiny. When he realizes that the cause he had dedicated himself to can be achieved in other ways, he eventually defects and joins Asura in his fight to free Mithra and defeat Deus and Vlitra and even [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifices himself]] to give Asura a fighting chance against Chakravartin.
%%* TragicVillain: Prior to his HeelFaceTurn.
* TronLines: Just like Asura's Unlimited Mode, Yasha's Vajra form covers him in glowing lines, in his case blue-colored.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He went along with Deus' cause because he felt that it was best for the world -- until he fought Wrath Asura, that is.
-->'''Yasha:''' The Gohma are impure. They are our enemy. Not just of Shinkoku, but of civilization itself. As such, we and the Gohma have been destined [[ForeverWar to fight each other for all eternity]]. But you refused to accept that fate. It was your ambition to [[CuttingTheKnot break the neverending cycle of war and return Gaea to our hands]]. For that cause, we have taken as many human souls as we have Gohma, and attained a great power by staining our hands in blood. The Great Rebirth...The sole reason the Seven Deities exist. The reason I have endured the billions of cries and screams for 12,000 years! But now! But now!! Asura has shown an even greater power!! [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone There must have been a way to avoid slaughtering so many innocent humans!]]

One of the Seven Deities, and an arrogant militant. Was once a brute who never thought things through.

But once he gained new power as one of the Seven Deities, he began to stand out for his discriminating way of speaking towards the humans, going out of his way to speak condescendingly. He is also the powerhouse of the Seven Deities.

His Mantra affinity is [[BloodKnight Violence]].
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: He is as agile as Asura, in spite of his belly.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: His entire boss fight is about this, and was some of the first material published about the game.
* BeardOfEvil: It is a well groomed beard though.
* BoisterousBruiser: He is out to smite evil with his great fists.
* TheBrute: The only thing he has going for him is physical strength, and even then, he's considered the weakest of the seven deities.
* ButtMonkey:
** Not only is he the first one of the Seven Deities to die, but even the other deities see him as nothing more than a big joke despite being the biggest of them physically.
** Even his reincarnated form is this, as he's only a petty thug who works in a fast food restaurant compared to the other reincarnated demigods.
* CallingYourAttacks: '''KURIKARA FUDO UCHI'''!
* ClimaxBoss: Not quite as much as later bosses, but he does have a chapter all to himself when he becomes the size of Gaea itself.
* CurbStompBattle: Gets trashed quickly by Asura in his first fight against him. Their second fight turns in Wyzen's favor when he turns into Vajra Wyzen, but Asura promptly defeats him when goes into his six armed form.
* DumbMuscle: Pretty much his role with the Deities. Especially when he uses more Mantra than necessary just to end up weaker.
* EnergyBall: Can fire one of these from the side of his large arm.
* FantasticRacism: Toward humans.
* FatBastard: And gets bigger the angrier he gets.
* FingerPokeOfDoom: To be fair, that finger was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJJOTeZcAzQ&feature=related probably about the size of Texas]]. But the catch is? It fails.
* GiantEqualsInvincible: [[AvertedTrope Nope]]. Asura ''does'' have more trouble hurting the mountain-sized Vajra Wyzen before achieving his own Vajra form, and the planet-sized Gongen Wyzen also overpowers him before his UnstoppableRage kicks into overdrive, and does manage to break all but one of Asura's arms, but invincible? Asura kills him using his one remaining arm by punching his finger so much the destruction spreads all the way back up to Wyzen and blows him up. And the human-sized Augus, Yasha, and Deus prove to be able to put as good of a fight to Asura, or even ''better'', ''without'' wasting enormous amount of Mantra resources like Wyzen does to get huge. Augus even lampshades that Wyzen lost the moment he thought size equals power.
* AGodAmI: Constantly proclaims how powerful he and the Seven Deities are.
-->'''Wyzen:''' I am Wyzen of the Seven Deities. I am an absolute being that protects this world and its mortals.
* GroundPound: Does this to Asura during the second part of their fight, and then punches him repeatedly into the ground. [[SuperMode It doesn't work.]]
* HandCannon: Fires missiles from the side of his large arm.
* HolyHalo: Best seen when he powers up.
* {{Jerkass}}: Is quite condescending, especially towards human beings.
* LargeHam: He's very loud and highly animated while speaking. He's overweight too.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: He can fire missiles from his gauntlet.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Despite being the weakest of the Seven Deities, that doesn't mean he's ''weak''. He's reasonably competent at fighting and killing even massive Gohma, as shown when he kills a [[WarElephants Gohma Crusher]] with one punch. It's just that he plain ''sucks'' compared to the other Deities.
* OhCrap:
** His expression when Asura shoots down his flagship.
** Also his expression when Asura is about to throw him into the stratosphere.
** And his expression when Asura fights back against his FingerPokeOfDoom.
* OneWingedAngel: He first starts out average-sized, then turns into Vajra Wyzen and then transforms again into Gongen Wyzen by releasing his Mantra.
* PowerFist: More prominent in his normal form, where it is about the size of him!
* SequentialBoss: He gets progressively bigger in the second fight and also calls in reinforcements
* ShutUpHannibal: The first boss you get to do so yourself, in fact! He's also the only one it really works on.
-->'''Wyzen:''' The Eight Guardian Generals who knew only war are no more! We Seven Deities rule and maintain order throughout the world...
-->'''Asura:''' [[TalkToTheFist You talk too much!]]
* SignatureMove: His "Kurikara Fudo Uchi", which is a fancy way to say "really strong punch".
* SmallNameBigEgo: Despite being the weakest of the Seven Deities, he acts as if he was way stronger than anyone, and is fittingly condescending.
-->'''Wyzen:''' Do you think a mere monkey like you can defeat a god?
* SmugSnake: He thinks he is more powerful than he really is and does not know how to use the power he has very effectively.
* StarterVillain: The first of the Seven Deities to fight and get killed by Asura's RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
* StoutStrength: He might be weak by guardian general standards, but he is still stronger than most other demigods, proving boss worthy for six armed Vajra Asura.
* ThatsNoMoon: As [[OneWingedAngel Gongen Wyzen]], he's the size of the ''planet''. Not that it helps him.
* TheWorfEffect: He basically exists to make the other demigods and such look stronger by comparison.
* TopHeavyGuy: Well, he's heavy all-around.
* YouTalkTooMuch: Asura has the option to say this to him during the beginning of his second fight while delivering a punch to Wyzen's face.

He carries a giant nodachi at his side, but never uses it unless he's serious (prior to the game, only Deus pushed him far enough to use it). He mainly uses his bare fists in battle. He sees fighting not as a means to an end, but as a purpose in life.

His mantra affinity is {{Greed}}.
----
* AffablyEvil: He may be one of the Seven Deities, but he's still a polite and fun guy to be around, even letting Asura relax with him at a hot spring before their final battle. Nevertheless, he makes it clear during their fight that he will kill Asura.
* AmazonChaser: If his above quote of "fight with beautiful women" are to be believed, he doesn't mind the company of a woman who can [[BloodKnight give him a good fight]].
* AntiVillain: Really, working for the Seven Deities is the ''only'' thing that makes him evil. He doesn't care about Deus's cause, treats his fight with Asura as a case of NothingPersonal, and outright states that he simply goes where his blade takes him.
-->'''Augus:''' The world has become a boring place. That fool Deus claims he'll bring salvation to Gaea, he has this grand plan for it all... he actually thinks he's going to save the world. "The Great Rebirth." Ridiculous! They are all too dependent on Mantra; that's why Wyzen and Kalrow were so weak. The battles I fight for them are disappointing, they are unsatisfying. Things were different before. Yes, we used to fight side by side... those were the days...
* BadassNormal: For a demigod, at any rate. Augus believes that relying on Mantra makes one weak, and that this is why Wyzen and Karlow were defeated by Asura. Augus doesn't use Mantra at all, which says something pretty scary about his overall capabilities, as Deus gave him his position after the two of them fought to standstill, and the previous holder of the mantra of greed didn't push into using his sword.
* BashBrothers: He was this with Asura back in the day, from his perspective at least. From what we see of it in flashbacks, Asura viewed him closer to a rival to overcome.
* {{BFS}}: Wailing Dark. Confirmed to be [[http://web.archive.org/web/20111004171109/http://i.joystiq.com/2011/09/16/overheard-tgs-just-how-long-is-that-sword-in-asuras-wrath 380,000]] kilometers long. And he can extend his blade so that it's long enough to ''pierce through the freaking Earth!''
* BlindSeer: Turns out in his profile that he actually ''is'' blind. Even [[LampshadeHanging Asura says it outright]]. Subtle but noticeable in-game, too, as at first glance, Augus' eyes look just like the enraged Asura's, but lack the slightly reddish pupils that mark Asura's eyes. Augus' eyes are pure white.
* BlindWeaponmaster: While his eyes are all white, just like Asura's, they seem to be that way for a different reason. Asura because of PowerGlows, Augus because he cannot actually see.
* BloodKnight: Just about every other line that comes out of his mouth has something to do with fighting and how much he ''loves'' it. Punctuated by the line:
-->'''Augus:''' I don't fight for good, and I don't fight for evil! I just fight!
* BoisterousBruiser: Despite his love of fighting, he's pretty polite and seems like a pretty fun guy to be around when he's not fighting.
* CoolOldGuy: Even considering his harsh training policies and tendency to strike him for little reason, Augus is a lot nicer to Asura than the other guardian generals, even after becoming one of the seven deities and trying to kill him.
* ClimaxBoss: You even get an interactive cutscene before fighting him.
* DirtyOldMan: Beyond the quote under TheHedonist, he also like to keep around a pair voluptuous women in bikinis.
* EccentricMentor: Very much so. Some of his training with Asura included beating him up. His "reward" involves ''headbutting him.''
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Due to his hedonistic lifestyle and mindset, he can't understand why Asura would settle for being a family man when he could enjoy the simpler pleasures of life such as fighting, eating, drinking, and sleeping with beautiful women. He reacts with bemusement in a flashback when Asura is with a baby Mithra and asks Yash incredulously if "this" is what he must protect. Upon dying and noticing Ahria, he seems to reach some level of understanding.
* EvilCounterpart: He gloats about this, but is one to Asura along with a ShadowArchetype. He lacks the love Asura has for his family and few friends, and the depth of character Asura has. In a sense, he is what Asura would be if Asura's BloodKnight tendencies consumed him.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Kenpachi Zaraki]]: Defined by a love of battle and constantly seeking strong opponents. When in battle, he wields a nodachi with supernatural properties, and he will hold back in various ways to make the fight last as long as possible. Not particularly loyal to the organization he fights for, he only serves them for the glorious battles they promised, and he earned his position after killing his predecessor. He even expresses pride for the protagonist defeating him in battle, because they were such a WorthyOpponent.
* FlashStep: Can move really damn fast when fighting him, especially when he uses his sword.
* AGlassInTheHand: He expresses his greed through chasing after desires of the flesh, including drunkenness
* GoOutWithASmile: Dies with a content SlasherSmile knowing full well that at least he had, in his own words, "one hell of a battle".
* GoKartingWithBowser: What's the first thing he does when Asura's weak after just killing Kalrow? Take him to a hot spring resort to rest and relax just before their battle.
* GracefulLoser: Takes his defeat and imminent demise quite well.
-->'''Augus:''' That was one hell of a battle! What now? Where will that anger take you? You are not me, yet you continue to fight. You no longer need my training; the one who stands, in the end, is righteous. Walk the path you must, Asura...
* {{Greed}}: His Mantra affinity. In his case, the greed for [[BloodKnight more battles]], and his hedonistic lifestyle.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: How he met his end by Asura using what was left of Wailing Dark against him.
* HandicappedBadass: According to his profile, he's blind. But after seeing him fight you wouldn't really notice this at first glance.
* TheHedonist: He lives to fight, eat, drink, and sleep with women. Small wonder that his Mantra affinity is greed.
-->'''Augus:''' You fight, then eat good food. You fight, then drink fine wine. You fight, then sleep with beautiful women. Hell, fight with beautiful women! That is what it means to live!\
"I have had carnal knowledge of the fairest maidens in Heaven, and have tasted the finest wines of Gaea. But none of it--''none of it''--excites my blood more than using my blade!"
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Asura kills Augus with his ''own broken sword''.
* HolyHalo: Like the other deities, more prominently seen when powering up.
* HotBlooded: He is very eager to fight. Also he is extremely passionate.
* HotGod: He's a very muscular man with a handsome face who wears no shirt.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Subverted. Augus briefly complains about the other Deities reliance on mantra. Cut to the middle of his battle with Asura when he activates his mantra reactor, but unlike the other Deities he's not doing so out of desperation [[IAmNotLeftHanded but elation at finally fighting an opponent who can force him to go all out]], [[BloodKnight which is what he always wanted]]. Before that point, he relied solely on his own physical ability and even afterwards only uses it to fire {{Sword Beam}}s from his now-drawn katana.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Only draws his sword when the fight is ''worth'' it. Prior to that, he'll fight only using his fists or with the sheathed blade. Until his battle against Asura, Deus was the only other person he ever drew it against.
* IFightForTheStrongestSide: As shown in episode 15.5's interlude, Augus wasn't interested in joining the eight Guardian Generals at first, stating that they were "weaklings". Then Deus came along and fought him to a draw. After the fight, Deus promises Augus that all battles will be like the one they were in if he joins his cause. [[BloodKnight Augus complies]].
* ImplacableMan: Asura -- at base strength without any extra arms -- can't even budge him from where he stands.
* KlingonPromotion: Inherited the position of Guardian General from the one he killed.
* LargeHam: Just like his pupil.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Broadminded", and the fourth movement from Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World".
* LightningBruiser: Like his pupil more bruiser than lightning, though with his sword out, he gains a lot more lightning.
* MeteorMove: In the most literal, and most amazing, way possible. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyYV24DJgF8 Must be seen to believed.]]
* MightMakesRight: Certainly seems to believe this.
-->'''Augus:''' The one who stands in the end is righteous...
* MonkeyKingLite: Like his pupil, he is also an {{Expy}} of Sun Wukong, having similar incredible strength, but he also has more direct personality similarities then Asura, such as a rowdy, love of fighting attitude, and a similarly long extendable weapon in the form of Wailing Dark (which, like Wukong's staff, can literally extend from the earth to the moon).
* MrFanservice: Despite being older than Asura, age certainly has been kind to him. Hell, Ch. 10 has him and Asura in a hot spring ''naked''. With CensorSteam of course.
* NamedWeapons[=/=]ICallItVera: He wields an extending katana called [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Wailing Dark]].
* NobleDemon: Augus may only live to fight, but he wants Asura to be at the top of his game when he does. So he takes him to Kanazuki Spring to rejuvenate and relax for once in the game since everything hit the fan.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Says this about him and Asura, how they both love to fight, and that the only place they belong is in battle. Asura [[NotSoSimilar begs to differ]].
-->'''Augus:''' I don't fight for good and I don't fight for evil, I just fight! I will say it once more: I am you, and you are me!
-->'''Asura:''' I am nothing like you!
-->'''Augus:''' Then tell me, how are we so different?
-->'''Asura:''' You wouldn't understand, even if I sent you to Naraka!
-->'''Augus:''' Then make me understand, Asura, with your fists!
* OccidentalOtaku: His reincarnation in the Japanese version, who came to Japan to collect Japanese swords, and tries his best to speak Japanese to locals that look like former Demi-god minions.
* OldMaster: Asura's and Yasha's, to be exact.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Augus feels that he is the best equipped to defeat Asura, seeing as he trained him, and he feels his comrades are over-reliant on Mantra.
-->'''Augus:''' Do you worry for him? You need not fear. He will not die yet. When he does, it will be by these hands.
* PunchClockVillain: Augus doesn't care at all for Deus' cause, and actually expresses some disgust at the idea of ending the war with the Gohma. In fact, he's the only Guardian General not present when Deus throws Asura from space [[note]]Save Wyzen, who was busy being unconscious after he tried taking on Asura earlier[[/note]]. He only works with Deus because he promised an endless slew of good fights, with them culminating in his final confrontation with Asura.
* PsychologicalProjection: He projects his own BloodKnight nature on Asura. Asura, who is fighting to save his daughter and not for fun, is not amused and keeps telling Augus to shut up whenever he tries to claim they aren't so different during their boss battle. In the end, Asura's desire to protect his daughter gives him the strength to defeat Augus. As Augus lays dying, he finally acknowledges that he was wrong about Asura and encourages him to walk his own path.
* SequentialBoss: You fight him when he just uses his fists, and then when he uses his sword.
* SilverFox: He's a handsome, well muscled older man who wears no shirt, exposing his muscular physique.
* SinkOrSwimMentor: His training includes pitting Asura against live Gohma.
* ShutUpHannibal: Though it doesn't really faze him. He actually grins.
* SwordBeam: Spams this after unsheathing Wailing Dark.
* TrainingBoss: Episode 3 in the tutorial level. Is a HeadsIWinTailsYouLose scenario, but justified since Asura was still in training back then.
-->'''Augus:''' You learn quickly. Here is your reward. [''Headbutts Asura'']
* WalkingShirtlessScene: More often than not he has no shirt.
* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: The 15.5 DLC reveals how Augus became a Guardian General. He killed one, which piqued Deus' interest in him. After the two fought, Augus agreed to serve him as long as all his fights were as great as the one they had (which was enough for him to take out his sword).

[[quoteright:303:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Kalrow1_129.png]]

The eldest of the Seven Deities. A cunning and sly tactician, Kalrow has others carry out what he has planned and rarely makes an effort to do anything himself. He is researching an easier way to manage both the humans and the Gohma.

Kalrow is quite skilled at fooling others with his illusions.

His mantra affinity is [[LazyBum Sloth]].
----
* AintTooProudToBeg: Unfortunately for him, he's not very good at it. He never once thinks to just ''apologize'' to Asura for the kidnapping of his daughter or the death of his wife, instead opting to go on about how what he and the other Seven Deities will lead to eternal paradise. Not a very smart thing to do considering that he's doing this ''as Asura's crumpling his escape pod like a tin can.''
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: His crimes are killing civilians, trying to kill Asura afterwards, and his Reincarnation does literal Jaywalking, and is [[TheCameo ratted out]] by [[Franchise/StreetFighter Chun-Li]] for doing so.
* BeamSpam: Has his entire fleet focus its Exorcism beams on Asura. Twice. [[NoSell It doesn't take]].
* BeardOfEvil: The beard is to emphasize his age but contrasts with the bare chinned Asura anyway
* BigNo: Screams one in terror as Asura crushes him to death in his escape pod.
* BrilliantButLazy: His mantra affinity is Sloth. He focuses on strategies for others to carry out to win the day.
-->'''Kalrow:''' My strategies are flawless. There is no need for us to be on the front. [[ArmchairMilitary You need but sit back and await our victory]].
* CruelMercy: Thinks he's attempting this with Asura at first.
--> "Enjoy your new lease on life."
* CutsceneBoss: For all purposes, he doesn't even put up a fight.
* DirtyCoward: While a brilliant strategist, Kalrow himself is too frail and slow to accommodate fighting in battle and will often rely on his cunning to fight. The reality of it is while he acts smug and self assured he is not above begging for his life after trolling the main character non-stop when he finally catches him. Yep he died a very pathetic, miserable death indeed in the end.
* EinsteinHair: Portrayed with unkempt hair.
* EvilOldFolks: He forces the village Asura came across to kneel to him and his troops for forgiveness for associating with Asura, and then kills them anyway. When Asura questions why he's doing it, he mocks that any reasons he has for his actions are beyond Asura's understanding.
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: Squashed inside an escape pod by Asura. And we see the entire thing.
%%* KickTheDog
* HolyHalo: Like all other deities.
* MadScientist: The chief scientist of the deities.
* MasterSwordsman: The Official complete works says he's one of these, though we don't see it in game. He's not as strong as Augus is, though.
* OhCrap: When he realizes Asura latched on to his escape pod. He also has this reaction when Asura survives a laser blast fired at him point blank.
* PowerFloats: He's never seen on his feet and is always floating or riding on his cane.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: He attempts to escape from Asura via an escape pod. It doesn't go well for him though.
* ShutUpHannibal: It's largely ineffective, though, as the Kalrow you punch is really a hologram.
* TheStrategist: Aside from being the chief scientist of the deities, he also directs the fleets.
* TooImportantToWalk: He's never seen walking, instead riding on his cane. His reincarnation also rides on a segway, to the frustration of [[Franchise/StreetFighter Officer Chun-Li]].
* TheUnfought: Likely the most justified example. He's old and has an affinity for the lack of desire to move.
* VillainTeleportation: By way of projected images.

One of the Seven Deities and Deus' adjutant general. Completely devoted to Deus, there is almost never a time when she is not seen by Deus' side.

She burns with hatred for anyone or anything that attempts to interfere with Deus' plans.

Olga speaks in an intellectual manner and a bewitching scent trails behind her wherever she goes.

She commands the fleets stationed in Gaea's orbit.

Her mantra affinity is {{Lust}}.
----
* AssholeVictim: Is brutally killed by Chakravartin when she tried killing Mithra to spite Asura and Yasha, even though they had both saved the world.
* AttackAttackAttack: Seems to be her basic strategy at most of her opposition.
* AvengingTheVillain: Shows up in the true ending in order to avenge Deus, but is quickly killed by [[GreaterScopeVillain the Golden Spider]].
%%* BodyguardCrush: Very noticeable in the true ending.
%%* TheCaptain: An evil example.
* ClimaxBoss: Berserker Asura versus her massive space fleet.
* DarkActionGirl: Commander of the space armada of Shinkoku, which she uses to strafe and demolish Shinkoku against her coworker's wishes. Despite having a mantra which she seems to be making a lot of use of, we do not get to see the action part in action.
* DragonTheirFeet: After Asura blows up the fleet, Olga plays no further part in the game until the true ending where she tries to kill Mithra to avenge Deus.
* EvilBrit: The only deity to speak with a clearly British accent.
* GeneralRipper: She will stop at nothing to destroy Asura, even bombing the hell out of villages populated by innocent humans, and utilizing the [[WaveMotionGun Brahmastra]] to take him out, wasting Mantra energy that was meant to destroy Vlitra in the process.
-->'''Olga:''' All units! Destroy the village and Asura along with it!
%%* HolyHalo
* HappinessInSlavery: Her radical devotion to her lord's designs coupled with an equally fanatical hatred of those she deems detrimental to Deus's plans only proves how much of a lack of personality she really has; even despite the amount of pomp and snobbery she showcases to hide it, in her exact words she proclaimed all individuals both mortal and god alike were all chess pieces moved by his will, there was no need for her or Yasha or anyone else to think for themselves.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Her rant about loss comes across as incredibly two-faced in the end when it was she, the [[BadBoss jerk]] who didn't even want her, and a host of co-conspirators, who usurped a celestial armada and framed Asura for the death of its emperor, took advantage of and wholesale slaughtered humanity to gather Mantra, and then wasted ''thousands of years worth of Mantra trying to kill Asura with Brahmastra'', rendering Deus' plan all but [[AllForNothing doomed to fail]]. It makes it hard not to feel abject joy at her [[UndignifiedDeath undignified]] if [[KarmicDeath albeit all too deserved end]] at the hands of a [[GodIsEvil despicable]] Demiurge.
* AnIcePerson: Puts Mithra in cryostasis by way of her powers in episode 2.
* {{Jerkass}}: Beyond her bombing of a village to kill Asura, she also isn't bothered by using the Brahmastra to try and kill him, feeling the Deities could just collect more. Her desire for revenge on Asura and Yasha after Deus' death indicates she puts avenging her leader above saving the world.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While her desire to use [[WaveMotionGun the Brahmastra]] is rightfully called out by Yasha as a waste of Mantra meant for the Great Rebirth, Olga isn't wrong that at this point Asura is a threat to their plans that ''has'' to be stopped before he gets any stronger and that there will be ''no'' Great Rebirth if he survives. As Asura (with Yasha's help) would go on to do just that, she has every right to want him dead here and now. She also isn't wrong on an objective (though certainly [[LackOfEmpathy not a moral one]]) level that as long as their control of the humans remains they can always replenish the lost Mantra, nor is she necessarily wrong to call out Yasha on failing to make sure Asura would ''stay dead'' and thus enabling this particular problem.
* LackOfEmpathy: Yasha tries to appeal to Olga by noting she's wasting countless human souls worth of Mantra. Olga dismissively replies [[AMillionIsAStatistic they'll just get more]] since, as long as they control the humans, their potential supply is "endless".
* {{Lust}}: Her Mantra affinity. However, she only has eyes for Deus.
* MenAreTheExpendableGender: She is the only survivor of Asura's onslaught by game's end [[SubvertedTrope until she gets killed by Chakravartin]].
* MoreDeadlyThanTheMale: While not much of a fighter, she prefers to use much more aggressive tactics compared to the other deities, especially when it comes to bombing villages. Subverted in Asura's presence, especially in his berserker form, which causes her to high tail it away from him.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Her reckless abandon in the bombardment of the new village Asura happened to come across, which ended in the deaths of countless people, chief among them the human girl whom our hero had befriended. In her haste to eliminate an obstacle towards her master's goals, the death of her enemy's friend that was on her hands only served to reinforce said problem. [[SarcasmMode Real smooth]].
%%* PrepareToDie:
* UndyingLoyalty: For Deus. In fact, her entire personality is defined by just how unquestioningly loyal she is to him, obsessed with seeing through his grand cause to the end, no matter the cost. Once Deus dies, she flips out ''hard'', and tries to kill Mithra to solely spite Asura.
* SingleTargetSexuality: For Deus again. Anyone who isn't him is basically treated as if they're unworthy garbage in her eyes, while the man himself is praised to heaven and back. Ironically, Deus doesn't show any interest in her back at all, only sparing her his attention when he has tasks to be done.
* SpontaneousWeaponCreation: [[AllThereInTheManual The Official Complete Works]] states that she can create weapons using her Mantra. However, similarly to Kalrow's swordsmanship, it is never explicitly shown.
* StalkerWithACrush: With Deus to a tee, with requisite doses of SingleTargetSexuality and UndyingLoyalty.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: She personally firebombed an entire village in an attempt to get rid of Asura, and when his berserk mode is unleashed, decides to fire the Brahmastra at him, aka the very weapon they intend to use to kill Vlitra.
* TheUnfought: Instead of directly fighting Asura and Yasha in the base game's true ending, she's killed by Chakravartin, paving the road for the DLC-exclusive ''Act IV: Nirvana''.

One of the Seven Deities and an admirer of the arts. He is Deus' (slightly psychotic) right hand man.

Sergei is constantly looking for all things beautiful. Despite his artistic airs, he never hesitates in making decisions, which makes him look cruel at times. He is the one who kills Durga, Asura's wife, during the ''coup d'etat''.

His mantra affinity is [[{{Narcissist}} Vanity]].
----
* AdmiringTheAbomination: After being gutted by Wrath Asura, he gushes over how magnificent he is and goads him into finishing him off.
-->'''Sergei:''' Magnificent! This is the rage I have been searching for! How exquisite! Beauty, pure beauty! Your wrath is glorious, Asura!
* AgentPeacock: He is shown to be able to easily vanquish Gohma, despite his comparatively lanky build and non-physicality. We never really get to see him do this though, just the after-effects of his work along someone else.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Expresses his love for Wrath Asura many times over.
* AxCrazy: Clearly enjoys the killing done in Deus' plan and likes to get creative with new ways of mass murder.
* BlindIdiotTranslation: In the Japanese voiceover, he says "Utsukushii!" when praising his love for Asura. Literally speaking, it is much closer to the English equivalent "It takes my breath away!", indicating that Wrath Asura is like a piece of perfect art. "It's beautiful!" is an appropriate but less impactful synonym.
* BloodFromTheMouth: The entire time he is held by Wrath Asura.
* CoDragons: With Yasha to Deus. He’s the assassin to Yasha’s enforcer.
* CombatSadomasochist: He takes amusement in Asura ''ripping him to pieces''.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Is gutted by Wrath Asura, who then [[YourHeadAsplode stomps on his head]].

* TheFightingNarcissist: And with [[AGodAmI a literal god complex, to boot]].
* ForTheEvulz: His primary reason for killing Durga was to get a reaction out of the stoic Yasha. Even then, Yasha was such a believer in the cause that he was willing to accept his sister as a casualty.
* GigglingVillain: Laughs a lot, especially after being sliced up by Asura.
* HateSink: Due to his sadistic tendencies and his role in Durga's murder, Sergei has no such qualities to be liked by anyone.
* HolyHalo: Appropriately in the shape of a crescent moon, representing his [[StealthPun lunacy]].
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: He takes almost orgasmic pleasure in watching destruction (and in Episode 14 he actually seems to flat out have one when he watches the city's mortal souls get harvested for Mantra). His last words have him going on about how beautiful he finds Asura's destructive rage.
%%* JustBetweenYouAndMe: His final confrontation with Yasha:%%Quotes are not context.
%%-->'''Sergei:''' Twelve thousand years ago, when he was branded a traitor and hunted down, where do you think I was? Yes, who do you think took Mithra? Who do you think I took her from? [[LargeHam It was I! I KILLED YOUR PRECIOUS SISTER!]]

%%-->'''Yasha:''' I... I knew. [''[[TranquilFury Clenches his fist in suppressed rage]]'']
%%-->'''Sergei:''' I see. So you chose the cause over your own sister. Bravo! You deserve a treat, loyal dog of Deus! So you, too, see the beauty in the death of your family.
* KickTheDog: Killing Durga.
* KarmicDeath: He kills Asura's wife, so her husband grabs him and proceeds to [[GuttedLikeAFish gut him like a fish]] before stomping his head to a stain on the floor.
%%* LaughingMad: After being sliced up by Wrath Asura.
* {{Lunacy}}: He invokes this with his crescent-shaped halo and is also the most unstable of the Seven Deities.
* MeaningfulName: Sergei is the Russian form of the Latin Sergius, which means servant or the high one, further emphasizing his position as Deus' right-hand man.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: His gestures are noticeably more expressive than the other characters.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: He spends a substantial part of Episodes 14 and 15 grilling Yasha, first for his wavering in the greater cause of the Seven Deities that's seen twelve thousand years of constant murder and harvesting of mortal souls, and then later for knowing full well that Sergei murdered Durga and doing nothing about it. He even ends the last part by praising Yasha for being a "loyal dog of Deus" and saying he deserves a treat while laughing in his face. He ends up helping turn Yasha against Deus.
* NightmareFetishist: Death and violence in general. He ''loves'' watching things suffer and die in beautiful and artistic ways.
* OffscreenVillainy: He supposedly had a record of killing many people over the 12,000 years that passed. However, he was never shown to kill anyone aside from Durga.
* OhCrap: While he doesn't seem to give a damn about being torn nearly in two and gushes over the raw anger Wrath Asura displays, he looks horrified right before Asura crushes his head like a grape. Before that, he has a minor one when his purification fleet explodes out of the blue, then it graduates to a ''major'' one as the one responsible lands right in front of him and looks him straight in the face.
* SlasherSmile: His default expression. Even sports this face as he dies (well, before Asura crushes it).
* TookALevelInKindness: His human reincarnation is shown to be some sort of pop star or celebrity. While still as vain as ever, he is also much kinder, thanking his audience and for everyone being alive.
* {{Troll}}: He revealed that he was Durga's killer just to provoke a reaction from Yasha. It's implied by some texts that he didn't even have orders to kill her, [[ForTheEvulz but did it anyway just to piss off Asura]].
* TheUnfought: Killed off by Wrath Asura in a cutscene.
* VisualKei: His reincarnation is basically a Visual Kei dancer.

->'''Impurity Level:''' [[ReadingsAreOffTheScale Immeasurable]]

The most powerful of all Gohma, initially appearing as a giant whale. It appears every few thousand years to wreak havoc upon civilization. It is the embodiment of the planet's rage, unleashing Gohma upon any who threaten to harm the planet. In between appearances, it feeds on souls of anything that dies on the planet, growing even stronger.
----
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: Yes, that thing really is as a big as the image makes it out to be; in fact in terms of player size to boss size, it is possibly ''the'' biggest boss in video game history to date.[[note]]Since we're going by player-to-boss ratio here, Gongen Wyzen and Chakravartin don't count: the former pops like a balloon before getting into an actual fight, and Asura grows bigger than ''Gaea'' for the latter.[[/note]]
* BigBadEnsemble: With Deus, the leader of the Seven Deities. The Gohma Viltra is a force of rage threatening to cause untold damage to Earth and must be stopped. While it outlives Deus, it's soon revealed that Chakravartin was in fact behind everything.
* BishonenLine: Vlitra's Core. In a unique twist, it exists independent alongside the outer form on the Earth's surface.
* ClimaxBoss: If you download the DLC, it becomes this alongside Deus.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: If you download Part IV.
* DraconicAbomination: The form it uses to battle the gods is a planet-sized eight-headed dragon made out of lava.
* TheDreaded: Everyone is afraid of this thing, even Deus.
* EldritchAbomination: Unless you download more episodes and find out its origin, the best the demi-gods can come up with is "the planet is upset with us so Vlitra comes out every once and while."
* EvilCounterpart: Its final form, Vlitra Core, is modeled after Asura's Berserker form. Yasha lampshades it.
* GreaterScopeVillain: To a lesser extent than Chakravartin. Everything that Deus and the other Seven Deities did was in the name of killing Vlitra, and its "children" remain a constant threat to humans and demigods alike, yet Vlitra itself only appears twice in the plot, with a span of 12,500 years between appearances.
* HumanoidAbomination: Vlitra Core. A monstrous magma man that looks largely like Asura's berserker form, complete with 4 enlarged arms emerging from it's back, and just as pissed as Asura is.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Star's Outcry".
* LivingLava: It's a massive monstrosity made of lava and igneous rock. Particularly in its core form, it likes to attack by unleashing a GroundPound that releases columns of magma skyward, as well as creating and hardening a hunk of magma into volcanic rock to fire like a missile.
* MeaningfulName: Vlitra is a great dragon from Hindu myth who is the personification of drought, defeated by Indra using a column made of ocean's foam at twilight, as he promised it not to harm it with anything made of metal, wood or stone, nor anything that was dry or wet, or during the day or the night. This is reflected in Gohma Vlitra being an almighty monstrous personification of a force of nature that the resident lightning god-king (Deus) desires to defeat once and for all.
* MirrorBoss: The humanoid core looks like a bigger, even meaner version of Berserker Asura, complete with being MultiArmedAndDangerous.
* OneWingedAngel: After Deus is defeated, it steals all the accumulated souls the Deities gathered and grows even bigger and into an...
* {{Orochi}}: It takes this form, with eight giant heads that have a wide enough circumference to tower over the planet.
* ReadingsAreOffTheScale: Its Impurity Level is labelled as "Immeasurable", and Deus himself states it has "limitless" power. In the end, it took Yasha and Asura empowered by Mithra and the latter awakening his second-to-last EleventhHourSuperpower to gain the strength necessary to overcome it.
* SealedEvilInACan: Hides inside the planet Earth and is usually resting in order to prepare to come back out on the surface.
* SequentialBoss: You fight its forces that come up from the earth first, then one of its heads, then all its heads and then its face(?), then its core in the Earth's center.
* ShadowArchetype: In two ways. The core represents what would have happened if Asura had given into his mindless rage as Berserker Asura. He'd have become an unreasoning monster lashing out at everything blindly. Moreover, had he taken Chakravartin up on his offer, Asura would have ended up a pawn just like Vlitra.
* SpaceWhale: Its initial form at the beginning of the game, and presumably the one the Shinkoku forces know it best in, resembles a great whale crossed with a dragon.
* StealthPun: It's {{Leitmotif}} is called "Star's Outcry"; In Japanese, stars and planets besides the Sun and Earth are both rendered as ''星'', or "hoshi", so the title can also be read as "[[GaiasVengeance Planet's Outcry]]".
* UnwittingPawn: In the end, Chakravartin exploited Gaea's rage for his own purposes. While he gave the planet mantra and in turn the ability to summon the Gohma, it did exactly what Chakravartin expected it to do.
* WaveMotionGun: In two stripes; its SpaceWhale and {{Orochi}} forms fire giant red beams of energy from the "mouth" structures ala a BreathWeapon, while the Vlitra Core form fires them KamehameHadoken style from its hands.

A girl of the village that enshrine Asura's remains after his first battle with Yasha. She bears a striking resemblance to Asura's daughter, Mithra. 964----
* AdaptedOut: She's entirely absent in the ''Kai'' manga adaptation, and her role is seemingly replaced by new character Upara.
* BrokenPedestal: All those innocent humans dying senselessly at the hands of the gods they worshipped, among whom were Ahria's father, led to Ahria's [[NayTheist rejection of the Seven Deities]] as well as the MartyrdomCulture that the human population had been indoctrinated with by them.
* DoomedHometown: Her hometown was attacked sometime ago by Gohma, prompting the Seven Deities to purify the area... without care for any humans who got caught in the crossfire. While the village wasn't completely wiped out, the massacre left its mark on Ahria, who went on to become a NayTheist.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The narration only ever refers to her as "Girl".

* IgnoredExpert: While he wasn't a warrior or soldier of any sort, performing a mass exodus into space to seek a new home for his people so they could be free from the Gohma wasn't a bad plan at all. Unfortunately, even if Deus hadn't betrayed and killed him over said plan, it's unlikely that [[TheManBehindTheMan Chakravartin]] would have allowed them to leave Gaea in peace before he had his "successor", even if that meant he would just [[HereWeGoAgain recreate the Gohma wherever they ended up]].
* SacrificialLamb: He exists to die and give the current ruler an excuse to kill the main character and his wife, so that their daughter can then be exploited without any fuss.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Not that Deus or those loyal to him would agree. 1021** The first occurs after his transformation from the Golden Spider to his divine form:
--->'''Asura:''' You're the one I should kill!\
'''Chakravartin:''' Very well. Another trial.
** The second is during their final fight on the Astral Plane:
--->'''Asura:''' Your time is up!\
'''Chakravartin:''' I have heard those words before.
* ClockworkCreature: Golden Spider's quite mechanical, to say the least.
* CombatBreakdown: Coinciding with his VillainousBreakdown. After Asura hits him one too many times, Chakravartin loses it, throws away his staffs and engages Asura in a PummelDuel. After losing that, he transforms into his Creator form and starts fighting like his old self, but as the fight rages on and Asura starts making cracks in his armor, the fight eventually devolves into a brutal, knockdown drag-out fistfight.
* CosmicEntity: Besides being able to effect events on a planetary scale, the Golden Spider oversees reincarnation, making him an integral part of life in the setting. With a living vessel he can effect events on a cosmic scale. Cosmic meaning multiple galaxies (of not outright entire ''universe'') in this case.
* DarkIsEvil: He's mainly LightIsNotGood, but the moment he reveals his final "Creator" form, he takes on a decidedly more sinister appearance, going from an angelic multi-armed being to a monstrous, gaunt skeletal humanoid wearing some sort of armor resembling his previous form. Heck, even his mantra takes on a dark greyish color scheme and he attacks by throwing knives made of it.
* DeadpanSnarker: He has his moments.
-->'''Golden Spider:''' Twelve thousand years have passed since you were here last, but that's nothing to a demigod like yourself, now is it?
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: Asura landing the killing blow causes black-and-red Mantra to surge out of Chakravartin's shattered skull as he flails about and screams before finally exploding in a final cloud of dark Mantra, [[LoadBearingBoss which also causes his dimension to start breaking apart]].
* DefiantToTheEnd: To put it simply, Chakravartin takes quite the beating before he finally dies, which ultimately involves Asura ''punching off part of his face and head''.
* DemiurgeArchetype: While establishes himself as the TopGod and creator of Gaia, all that dwell on it and the mantra that allowed the Demigods to ascend to {{Physical God}}hood, he is presented as an ObviouslyEvil being for doing all of it. He created Gohma Vlitra, an EldritchAbomination that had taken countless lives directly and indirectly through the Seven Deities, as one giant test to find a successor. He had supposedly done this in the past and [[OmnicidalManiac had destroyed countless other thriving worlds when the results did not please him]], [[MightMakesRight having a strong belief that it is his right to do so because he is so powerful]]. The fact that his godly role can be passed down implies that he might not have been the first TopGod in the universe, making his title "Creator" less legitimate. His design also has the vibe of a false god; while his Golden Spider form has design elements taken from the Gautama Buddha, his role as the Embodiment of Samsara gives him more in common with [[GodOfEvil Mara]], the closest Buddhism has to a SatanicArchetype.
* DemonicPossession: Of Mithra. He needs a vessel of suitable power over Mantra to manifest his real form and act freely in the world. After he fully manifests, however, it seems he no longer directly needs her since part of his final deal is freely giving her back to Asura before he gets pissed off and snatches her back, nor does Mithra getting free when Chakravartin is on his last legs seem to affect him any more negatively than he already was.
* {{Determinator}}: Much like Deus before him, Chakravartin does not give up, and takes quite a few stages to whittle down. As pointed out elsewhere on this page, you have to fill up and use your Instant-Win Button ''ten'' times on him to defeat him. And even then, he goes down fighting as you slowly overpower him until the very final blow, where he's too weak to do anything but stand swaying in place.
* DimensionLord: The world as the characters know it is the dimension he lords over, though he implies there are others out there that need him.
* DissonantSerenity: Non-nonchalantly states that he'll destroy Gaea and then recreate it after Asura rejects his offer, and states he's done that in the past an unspecified number of times. Says something about his LackOfEmpathy, and it's a far cry from the DeadpanSnarker {{Troll}} personality he adopted as the Golden Spider.
* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: He also has a more traditional Holy Halo made out of various rings of light, one of which is a full circular rainbow to symbolize his complete control over Mantra.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: He doesn't understand why Asura would reject his offer even if it meant having his daughter back.
-->'''Chakravartin:''' You are the Redeemer! You must become the god of this world!\
'''Asura:''' [[ShutUpHannibal Not everything bends to your will!]]\
'''Chakravartin:''' It must! You will accept your fate. If you do not, this world will come to an end!
* EvilCounterpart: To Asura. He is visually everything Asura is not; a spindly, effeminate, glowing golden god of life and creation, with smooth flesh-toned skin and pure white eyes, in contrast to a muscular, scarred, demonic red entity of wrath and destruction. Both are the only things in each other's power level, and fight with multiple arms and energy blasts, but Asura relies heavily on his physical strength and rarely uses his ranged attacks. Chakravartin only attacks physically after Asura provokes him into a VillainousBreakdown. His final form is more clearly a counterpart to Asura's Wrath form, in the same way that the Vlitra Core was a counterpart to his Berserker form. This becomes even clearer in the original Japanese where the name of his Creator form translates to "King of Metempsychosis '''A-Sura'''" (転輪王ア・スラ).
* EvilIsBigger: Even his smaller final form is about OneHeadTaller than Asura.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Not so much as the Golden Spider, but once he reveals his true identity he starts speaking in a deeper, more booming voice.
* FacePalmOfDoom: Screwing up the second input for the time-stop QTE causes him to grab Asura's head with his hand to emit a dark explosion directly in his face.
* FatBastard: An unconventional variant. He's 'skinnyfat' - modestly-proportioned, but with unsettlingly soft, loose flesh that sends him straight into the UncannyValley, especially in contrast with the SculptedPhysique of Asura and the other lesser deities.
* FauxAffablyEvil: He seems to be a polite fellow considering he's an absolute monster with no qualms with doing all sorts of horrible things in the name of finding an heir. However, it's a façade for his cold, ruthless side, and he quickly drops the act when Asura defies him via a fist to the face.
* FightsLikeANormal: While his divine form is mostly a LongRangeFighter, in his final form [[KungFuWizard he's an adept martial artist, along with his powers]].
* {{God}}: He spins the threads of life and governs the life of all of existence.
** AGodAmI: Just like the rest of the enemies in the game, except this time it's truly a JustifiedTrope.
** GodIsEvil: Despite his [[GodIsGood claims]], he's a callous manipulator that has no moral concerns over the suffering and death he causes.
** Also see TopGod example below.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: His usual divine form is clad in golden robes, and is definitely the one being that can be recognized as {{God}} in this setting.
* GoneHorriblyRight: His attempts at turning Asura into his heir as the Redeemer worked... but in doing so, he gave Asura every reason in the world to want him dead in addition to that great power, creating the one being that could and would {{kill| The God}} him.
* GreaterScopeVillain: The real final bad guy of the game, as hinted in the Ep 18 recap. The Gohma Viltra and the war between the deities was all part of his plan to create a new supreme deity for Gaea, even going so far as to pose as a BigGood to Asura.
-->'''Chakravartin:''' I am the guide of all beings. The one who bestowed Mantra upon your ancestors. I had the planet's will give birth to Vlitra and scattered the Gohma around this world to test you. All to shape you into a suitable vessel. The one who controls the planet is the one fit to guide it.
* HolyHalo: Consisting of a massive number of hands, like [[Myth/HinduMythology Kanon]].
* HumanoidAbomination: His creator form, which is smaller and ditches the many arms for a more recognizable humanoid form, but resembles a blackened skeleton wearing a silver skin coating.
* HumiliationConga: Near the last leg of the FinalBattle, Chakravartin sports his own Sanskrit lettered ActionCommands. But after getting hit repeatedly by Asura's barrage, he physically staggers and the action commands start to fail. Asura is just casually pummeling him and countering his attempts to fight back at this point, giving a rather epic and angry speech how he's not going to take any more crap from anyone that calls himself a god and/or [[PapaWolf makes his daughter cry]].
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: What he does to Asura with ''his hands'' after screwing up the third input for the throw QTE.
* JerkassGod: Taken to its LogicalExtreme, and is even worse than Seven Deities ''combined''.
* KnightTemplar: He honestly believes that everything he is doing is for the greater good, and seems to be oblivious to how atrocious his actions truly are.
* LackOfEmpathy: He honestly doesn't even seem to understand why Asura hates him for unleashing the Gohma and causing eons of uncountable suffering on Gaea. His casual dialogue about destroying the planet as easily as some people cut grass speak volumes.
* LeanAndMean: In contrast with Asura's muscle and bulk, Chakravartin The Creator is quite spindly. Despite that, this form has clear physical advantage to Asura where it can swing him around like a rag-doll and throw him all over the place. [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration The game's rule of making story and gameplay go hand in hand enforce this trope]], as succeeding in the quick-time events in this part of the fight has Asura use agility and reflexes to counter Chakravartin's physical might.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Close to the end of the Creator form fight [[InterfaceScrew you start to see his QTEs]].
* {{Leitmotif}}:
** Golden Spider: "One who spins ideas."
** Chakravartin: "Aurora borealis", and "One who spins samsara".
* LightIsNotGood: A big schtick of his, just look at the Golden Spider and his normal form. Lots of [[GoldAndWhiteAreDivine gold and white]]! On the other hand, he brings out some DarkIsEvil in his Creator form, see RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver below.
* ManBehindTheMan: He tells Asura that he is the one responsible for the Gohma apparition, using them as a way to test the gods' resolve and making him indirectly responsible for all the suffering perpetuated by Vlitra and the Seven Deities over the eons.
* MarathonBoss: One-man variant. The final fight with him causes the entire episode to last nearly a full hour, counting the cutscenes.
* MirrorBoss: His final form. Even more so than Vlitra.
* MovingTheGoalposts: He invokes this when Mithra asks him why there are still Gohma even after Vlitra has been destroyed.
-->'''Chakravartin:''' Indeed, the source of the Gohma was defeated, and thus the Gohma should no longer appear. But in the end, it is just my manipulation of the planet's rage. My creation. If I so choose to do so, I can spawn as many Gohma as I wish. That is all there is to it.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: He has even more arms than Asura, and that's not counting the ones that make up his halo.
* NamesToTrustImmediately: {{Subverted|Trope}}. Like, just look elsewhere in this very trope-folder, this folder about him. Trust us, this {{God}} is the GreaterScopeVillain of this game.
* NonindicativeName: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. Chakravartin means "ideal universal ruler" in Indian religions, and he is indeed an ''[[{{God}} "universal ruler"]]'', but he doesn't fit the ethical, benevolent, or the "''ideal''" part in the slightest.
* NoodleIncident: When Asura yells "Your time is up!" at him, Chakravartin's only reply is "I have heard those words before," with no further explanation as to who else got this far in defying him, [[ButForMeItWasTuesday when]], or how many times he's heard it before.
* NoSell:
** After revealing himself as the one behind the game's events, an enraged Asura throws himself at Chakravartin and punches him with everything he's got. Chakaravartin stops him ''[[PunchCatch with his finger]]''. The following boss fight has him simply stand in place and tank everything Asura and Yasha throw at him, up to stopping [[SuperMode Mantra Asura]] in his tracks with no more than a few of his arms, just to show off how impossibly powerful he is compared to them.
** Once he assumes his [[OneWingedAngel Creator-form]] in the Event Horizon, the above situation repeats: Asura, now in his Destructor-form (though with 2 oversized arms remaining, similar to Mantra Asura), powers up and does a spinning punch with one of his oversized arms. Chakravartin, once again, stops him with just a finger, while also breaking his remaining oversized arms and causing great damage to him. Asura's eventual burst had him punching Chakravartin's gut that the Creator, once again, just takes with no reaction or attempt at defending himself against at all... [[SubvertedTrope at this point, however, Asura's wrath grows so explosively that he sells the punch anyway.]]
* NotQuiteDead: Outside of {{DLC}} [[GoldenEnding that is]]. Asura killing him inside his own event horizon seems to have destroyed his mind, body, and soul. He shouldn't reincarnate like the rest of the characters do, as he seems to lack an earthly soul and without Mantra he quite literally ''cannot exist.'' Except there is one problem, the Mantra ''still exists'', and thus he does as well. How do we know this? [[WhamShot Because we can a golden spider climbing a tree in the modern era.]]
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: He tries to come across as the [[WellIntentionedExtremist opposite]], saying he was causing the world to suffer in order to get an heir after countless Eons of destroying and recreating the planet of Gaea, so that he can explore other worlds and guide others. Asura calls him out on this immensely, and as he beats down Chakravartin, it's obvious that Chakravartin's intentions are nothing but shallow excuses to feed his [[AGodAmI god complex]].
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: {{Averted|Trope}} ''so'' '''hard'''. He's remade the world time and again for no reason except to get ''someone'' to take his job so he can do the same things somewhere else, instead of properly caring or guiding the creatures he's created; nobody can stand him or his claims that he's doing this for a good reason.
-->'''Mithra:''' Why not just let us be? We finally found peace.\
'''Chakravartin:''' Your peace is but a fleeting moment in the eternal span of time. One who can guide your kind on the right path must be chosen.\
'''Mithra:''' If it is a fleeting moment, why not leave us to savor it?\
'''Chakravartin:''' It is my destiny as the one who possesses power.\
'''Mithra:''' In that case, your power is not needed!
* OneWingedAngel: Final phase, one word: '''[[TopGod Cr]][[{{God}} ea]][[PowersThatBe tor]]'''.
* OutsideContextProblem: The other antagonists of the game only considered themselves gods, but whose abilities had limits. Chakravartin, however, is an ''actual'' {{god}}, and whom not even the combined might of Asura nor Yasha could defeat, forcing Yasha to give the Mantra Reactor of the Karmic Fortress to Asura and sacrifice his (Yasha's) own life to get Asura to a level good enough to combat Chakravartin.
* PhysicalGod: Despite his godly attributes his physical form relies heavily on an extant vessel, unlike the demigods.
* PowerEchoes: Especially in the empty space he fights in the end of the game. When Asura starts beating the piss out of him, the echo becomes VoiceOfTheLegion due to his power beginning to ebb.
* PowerGlows: His HolyHalo pulsates with a golden aura, taken even further in his giant golden form, which is so shiny that it eclipses the sun itself despite being several light years away, and creates the sunset backdrop of Asura and Yasha's epic final fight.
* PowersThatBe: A villainous example.
* PummelDuel: Once he's hit one too many times, he absolutely loses his shit and attempts one of these. He actually gets the better of Asura at first, both because he has more arms and said arms are even more durable, only cracking whereas Asura's get shattered to pieces when they strike directly, but Asura manages to land an epic uppercut and starts wailing on him with his remaining two arms.
* RasputinianDeath: He took no less than '''10''' bursts[[note]]Or '''''12''''', if you count the two used on his giant form in the first stages of his final boss battle, the first to penetrate through said form's event horizon, and the second to do so again to return from the Naraka realm (where you were unwillingly transported to by Chakravartin) back to the Nirvana realm.[[/note]] before finally dying, which Asura's does by ''punching part of his head off'' before he finally explodes.
* RazorFloss: His spider threads aren't just for show, being strong enough to not just stop Olga's sword from killing Mithra, but also strong enough to yank it right out of her hands and then kill her shortly afterwards.
* RazorSharpHand: The piercing variant as Creator form. When you screw up the 3rd time-stop QTE, Chakravartin attacks by impaling Asura with his hand.
* RealityWarper: As befitting his godlike power, he can casually manipulate reality around him. The initial phases of his boss fight includes sending Asura seemingly back into Naraka to battle his galaxy sized form (even when already inside the Event Horizon contained within aforementioned form), whereupon its defeat it and all of Naraka shatters like a two dimensional glass screen.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver / WhiteAndRedAndEerieAllOver: Downplayed in "White" part. His final "Creator" is a black skeleton lit red from the inside; also has a shiny silver outer shell/robe.
* TheReveal: The Golden Spider turns out to be Chakravartin, [[{{God}} the creator god]].
* RubberMan: While in his "human" form, he make his arms stretch, twist, and bend any which way he wants.
* SatanicArchetype: {{Iron|y}}ically so. Chakravartin launches stars at the Earth during the final battle. [[Literature/BookOfRevelation You know who else used that tactic]]? Chakravartin claims to be the origin of all mantra yet by some coincidence the seven mantras [[UsefulNotes/{{Christianity}} line up closely with]] the {{seven deadly sins}}. His name means ideal universal ruler but it is a rough equivalent to Cosmocrator, one of Old Scratch's epithets. He is first introduced (albeit in his spider-disguise) in Naraka as its ruler, a name equated to the Hindu/Buddhist equivalent of {{Hell}}. He also claims to be the true divine ruler of Gaea and the AnthropomorphicPersonification of Samsara, the Wheel of Life and Death, not unlike Mara, the demonic celestial king who rules over the Earth, is the Buddhist-equivalent of {{Satan}}, and tries to keep humanity trapped in Samsara where they cannot achieve true enlightenment by ascending to Nirvana.
* SerialEscalation: The ultimate pinnacle of this in the game as far as bosses and enemies go. His giant form is many many times bigger than any other character in the game, to the point while even being out of the galaxy he's still visible from the planet Earth, he can casually fire really strong, really fast laser beams that go across the galaxy at several times the speed of light, throws entire planets and even stars at Asura, and even tries to make the sun go supernova just to take him down.
* SequentialBoss: First you fight his giant golden metal form in space, then you fight a smaller version in Naraka, then his human form, than his [[OneWingedAngel Creator form]], as well as a [[RuleOfCool QTE Battle against him]].
* ShowsDamage: By the final portion of the fight with his OneWingedAngel, Chakravartin's body begins to visibly ''crack'' as Asura's attacks overwhelm him.
* SmugSnake: He seems calm and collected when things go his way, but once Asura defies him, he throws quite the temper tantrum.
* SneakySpider: Golden Spider plays this trope straight due to his manipulative and ambiguous goals while constantly egging on Asura to resurrect himself after each death. Becomes clear when he's revealed as Chakravartin and his plan was to get Asura to save Mithra so he can use her as a vessel to manifest his true form.
* TheSociopath: He's a cold, uncaring god who doesn't have to think twice about destroying the planet countless times in order to find an heir, simply because he can't be bothered to actually keep the planet's denizens safe from harm.
* SpottingTheThread: In the final boss fight with the Vlitra Core, the core seems to have glowing golden spikes sticking out of it. A few distant shots show that the core is actually [[{{Foreshadowing}} suspended in a giant golden web.]]
* StealthPun: "[[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything Spinning ideas]]" is what he essentially does.
* StormOfBlades: Another one of his final form's basic projectiles is this.
* SuckingInLines: His giant form's laser attacks do this before firing.
* TimeStandsStill: One of his attacks does this accompanied with ColourCodedTimeStop.
* ThisCannotBe: He just doesn't understand why Asura was able to defeat him.
-->'''Chakravartin:''' This is not my destiny!
* TopGod: A "God of Gods" example and fully {{justified|Trope}}; as he himself states, he is the one true God compared to everyone else being "mere" demigods. The only one he considers even possibly being an equal to himself is Asura.
* TreacherousAdvisor: As the spider, he urges Asura on for his own purposes.
-->'''Chakravartin/Golden Spider:''' You choose to move forward... this is exactly why your soul will never belong to the Gohma nor the Seven Deities. There is a great power hidden in you, one I have been looking for...
* {{Troll}}: He acts like this in his Golden Spider form. It's actually rather creepy how he [[ShooOutTheClowns switches]] from the smartass overseer of Naraka to being ultra-polite and calm in his true form, revealed to be a ploy to get Asura pissed off enough to return to Gaea to complete his plans.
-->'''Golden Spider:''' Deus said he would save the world. Are you satisfied with being a cog in his machine? Or you could just curl up and die right here...
-->'''Golden Spider:''' You certainly are incompetent. I'll wager that is one of your more charming features.
* TricksterMentor: Helps Asura to escape Naraka by angering him with probing questions that restore his memory.
-->'''Asura:''' Who are you?
-->'''Golden Spider:''' [[{{Foreshadowing}} Good question]], but not the right one. The right question would be "Who are ''[[AmnesiacHero you]]''?".
* TrueFinalBoss: If you brought the [[{{DLC}} downloadable content]] for the "[[GoldenEnding true ending]]" anyway.
* UncannyValley: A key visual indicator that he's a HumanoidAbomination. He looks ''almost'' human, but his flesh is disturbingly stretchy and rubbery, as if he's wearing it like a suit - and considering his bizarre OneWingedAngel form, there's every chance he is.
* UnskilledButStrong: He's presumably never fought once in his life, or at the very least never fought a battle that he needed to take [[CurbStompBattle seriously]]. That said, he's {{God}}. Deconstructed as well, as Asura is able to exploit this weakness and use his combat experience against Chakravartin to overwhelm him.
* VillainousBreakdown: It begins when Asura "[[TalkToTheFist extends his arm]]", but becomes especially apparent when he ditches his magic and attempts a PummelDuel with Asura after Asura lands yet another punch on him. Upon transforming into his Creator form, he regains some of his cool, only to lose it again [[ThisCannotBe in a different way]] when he really gets on the losing end.
* VillainousRescue: He saves Mithra from Olga right before revealing who he is.
* WalkingSpoiler: So much so that he might be [[ExaggeratedTrope single handedly responsible for having to make this page spoiler tag free due to sheer usage]], [[LogicalExtreme a massive rarity for the website]]. Before they were removed, only '''one''' trope applied to him was unspoiled ''at best''. [[IWarnedYou Spoilers overload indeed.]]
* WeCanRuleTogether: Tries this on Asura numerous times, feeling that Asura is the only one powerful enough to replace him. At the end of the game before the final battle, he even offers ''not only'' full control of Gaea at bare minimum (the language is vague enough that "this world" extends to the entire universe since he gestures to the entirety of the "Event Horizon" dimension they're in) but even his daughter Mithra with no apparent strings aside from accepting the offer. [[TheFinalTemptation For a moment Asura does indeed look tempted]], but by this point [[RageAgainstTheHeaven Asura is fed up with gods]].
* WhoDares: His response to Asura punching him in the face? He yells "...how dare you defy me?!"
* YinYangBomb: His final form makes use of both {{light|Is Not Good}} and {{dark|Is Evil}}ness.
