->'''Voiced by''': Creator/CharlieAdler

Our main hero, [[MrViceGuy flawed as]] [[AntiHero he is]]. Son of the legendary Slickis, he has a lot to live up to... but his {{Ugly Cute}}ness, nervous disposition and self-confidence issues combined with his tendency to slack off keep working against him. Still, one shouldn't underestimate him based on his looks or personal problems; his {{s|izeShifter}}caring [[OneWingedAngel skills]] are nothing to laugh at...

* AcquiredSituationalNarcissism: Give him a situation where he [[StatusQuoIsGod temporarily]] gets popularity, riches or notoriety... and about five seconds. Hello again, [[{{Pride}} cocky-]][[{{Jerkass}} ass]] Ickis!
* AesopAmnesia: A chronic case. See above.
** [[PlayingWithATrope Played With]]. To be fair, he always becomes cocky for a different reason (he completes a successful scare and gets praised by the Gromble and Dizzle, he's farther along on his homework than Oblina for a change, he finds a bunch of toenails and is temporarily wealthy, he's new in school and thinks having a famous father automatically means he will be respected and revered simply for existing.) The Aesop is never presented as "don't be cocky" but "don't be cocky if *insert situation* happens" so it's likely Ickis never makes the connection that cockiness all by itself is annoying or wrong.
* BadassAdorable: Despite that he's the example of ugly cute, he does have a cute personality. but don't make angry, or else he will scare the hell outta you.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Oblina, the two snipe at each other all the time but it’s clear they are attracted to each other.
* BerserkButton: He is not fond of being called a rabbit. It doesn’t stop him from applying as BadassAdorable.
* BigDamnHeroes: When push comes to shove, he’ll swallow his pride to do it.
* BigThinShortTrio: The Short to Krumm's Big and Oblina's Thin.
* BrilliantButLazy: Despite his self-doubt, he actually had real ''talent'' and wit; however, he spent a lot of time [[TheSlacker slacking off]] and neglecting his scares, leaving them to the last minute... and then panicking about it.
* CatchPhrase: "I hate my life." Doubles as a Shout Out to ''WesternAnimation/RockosModernLife'', where Ed Bighead (also voiced by Charlie Adler) expresses the same refrain. He has a few other repeated sayings like [[Music/JamesBrown "On the good foot!"]], "I'm bad!" and "No way!" that are used sporadically, but not quite to the same extent as "I hate my life."
* TheChosenOne: There are definite elements of this. In the first season, "Where Have All The Monsters Gone", The Great Pool, the collective embodiment of all monsters, declares Ickis is the one who will lead the other students to rectify the lack of fear crises -- which he does. In the second season, Ickis is the monster selected to undertake the once every 400 years quest to find the Holey Pail; this is a big deal in monster society, and the last monster to quest for it was none other than the Gromble.
* ClarkKenting: His Super Monster costume is nothing more than a towel for a cape and underpants for a mask. It does at least cover his ears, which seem to be viewed as his most distinguishing feature.
* CowardlyLion: He's usually the first one to get scared and try to chicken out, but he can very easily be counted on if his friends are in trouble.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Most commonly kind of goofy, but when he gets serious...
* CuteButCacophonic: Ickis is the least scary-looking of the regular monsters, but he has a very high-pitched voice courtesy of Creator/CharlieAdler. This isn't entirely a bad thing in monster culture; when he and Krumm are mashed together to become Krickis, Krumm is genuinely pleased he can now whine like Ickis does.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Ickis wears glasses in most scenes from "Monsters Get Real" which was intended to be the series pilot. He doesn't wear glasses any of the other episodes.
* FantasticRacism: When Ickis becomes spontaneously combustible, almost all the other monsters react with fear and refuse to be around him. Horvak takes it the farthest, by actually pulling Krumm out of the Academy temporarily.
* ForbiddenFruit: Was absolutely fascinated by human culture, despite the Gromble forbidding everything to do with it.
* GuileHero: Since he didn't have much in the way of sheer physical strength, and going OneWingedAngel couldn't solve all his problems, he tended to rely more on quick thinking and {{Indy Ploy}}s.
* HiddenDepths: Ickis is a surprisingly good dancer, as shown in multiple episodes.
* IAmNotWeasel: Humans often mistake him for a bunny, much to his annoyance.
* IJustWanttobeBadass: In the "Monsters Are Fun" episode, after the Gromble assigned Oblina and Krumm the task of scaring the riders to shut the ride down, Ickis, upset that he wasn't chosen, goes to the carnival on his own and successfully scares many of the humans riding the ride.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: {{Inverted|Trope}}; he has one, but instead of the high-and-mighty airs being his default mode, he only assumes them when given the opportunity. The rest of the time, the emotional mess underneath is fully exposed.
* InterspeciesFriendship: While monsters in general seem to look down on humans, Ickis really seems to be quite amiable towards them; whilst he still scares them because he has to, and enjoys doing so, he really does sit in PunchClockVillain territory with the fact he's quite companionable towards them if given the opportunity. He makes fairly good friends with Bradley, despite their less-than-stellar first meeting, and in one episode becomes attached to a blind old blues player to the point of going on one of his most impressive physical transformations to help him.
* ItSucksToBeTheChosenOne: Due to having shades of being TheChosenOne, the Gromble is sincerely proud of Ickis and fully expects him to go on to greatness. Ickis is flattered to hear it, until the Gromble tells him he will be riding him harder than ever before to make sure that potential is fulfilled. Ickis, of course, gets very nervous to hear that.
* JockDadNerdSon: His father has won a few trophies, and ribbons, and plaques, and more trophies... A recurring theme is Ickis despairing of ever matching the Great Slickis' exploits. It's telling that when the Gromble forces him to become a last-minute entry in a wave-riding competition, the same competition that his father NEVER lost, everyone is betting on Ickis... to lose. In a surprising twist, Ickis proves that he could have won that event, but gives up a sure victory to go back and save Krumm.
** Unusually for this trope, however, his father isn't really that demanding and is quite understanding that his reputation is a lot to live up to. In his introductory episode, he deliberately showcases one of his own embarrassing failures to help his son realise that even The Great Slickis didn't start out so great, and he's highly proud of Ickis's above mentioned moral victory.
* {{Jerk with a heart of Gold}}: Ickis really is a good person once you look past the cockiness.
* {{Keet}}: He's the most manic and hyperactive of the three heroes.
* KillerRabbit: Ickis's transformations include fangs and claws that certainly look quite nasty, even before he starts growing larger. Even when he doesn't have them, he's got a nasty bite, and he's actually pretty good at making scary sound effects (screeching, scraping claws, gnashing fangs). It's usually when he appears and people see how much like a rabbit he looks that they tend to stop being scared.
* LargeHam: Would you expect anything less from a character voiced by Creator/CharlieAdler?
* LetsGetDangerous: When the chips are down is when Ickis tends to forget about his issues and just go with his instincts.
* MoodSwinger: Depending on the moment, he could go from [[{{Pride}} cocky]] {{Jerkass}} to [[WideEyedIdealist wide-eyed]] {{naive|Everygirl}}te to DeadpanSnarker to panicky [[TheWoobie Woobie]].
* MrViceGuy: If an episode is going to focus on a monster developing a vice, it's usually going to be Ickis.
* NaiveEverygirl: A male version.
* NerdInEvilsHelmet: An inversion, in that Ickis ''normally'' looks cute and cuddly, with his truly monstrous side hidden until he manages to trigger a transformation.
* TheNoseless: Which is strange since he has ears as well.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: From his father or the Gromble. It’s established that the latter was just like him at his age.
* OtherMeAnnoysMe: Is conned into creating 5 clones in one episode. The clones fulfill his 5 scares in a day assignment, enabling him to play Sewerball. In a rare moment of glory, Ickis wins the game. Too bad for him the clones escape from his dorm and annoy The Gromble, The Snorch, Zimbo, Krumm, and Oblina, leaving Ickis highly upset.
* ParentalIssues: He's deeply concerned about trying to live up to his famous father's reputation.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: A signal he was going to start looming was his eyes turning red. The accompanying noises made it sound like they were actually ''filling with boiling blood''.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The sensitive guy to Krumm's manly man. Sometimes, this can be inverted between the two.
* ShipTease: The clone Ickis seems to regret the most is Chickis, the lecherous clone who tries to kiss Oblina, which he claims he will never be able to live down. Bear in mind that Ickis got awfully jealous when Oblina was squishing on the popular Gludge, once confessed that he didn't know what he would do without her, and his version of how they scared an opera house full of humans had Ickis rescuing the nervous, starry-eyed Oblina who all but swoons over his bravery.
* SizeShifter: Called 'looming' or 'growing', which also functioned as a OneWingedAngel mode for his victims. Of all the monsters, he seems to be the most adept at it, once growing bigger than an apartment building.
* TheSoCalledCoward: Being a monster who is capable to terrify the living daylights out of humans when using his famous scare style certainly is enough to prove that he's a lot more capable of such a task than he sometimes would seem.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He's basically a somewhat scrawnier version of his dad.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: He and Krumm are the Two Guys to Oblina's Girl.
* UglyCute: InUniverse, this is how humans react if they actually see him. Seriously; in one episode, a nurse he has terrified to the point of cowering in fear whilst he was in the shadows immediately calms down and starts cooing over how cute he is upon seeing him in the light. In another, a man with a nervous disorder that makes him terrified of literally everything -- to the point he's seen screaming in terror of a chair and his own bed -- just smiles and cuddles Ickis on first seeing him, calling him "teddy".
* WellDoneSonGuy: A big part of his character involves his insecurities next to his father Slickis, who is TheAce and seems to be Ickis's polar opposite. In reality, they're not that different, and it's worth noting that unlike some examples of this trope, Slickis actually does care about and encourage his son.

Ickis's best friend and fellow underachiever, a squat, hairy, peach-colored monster with [[EyesDoNotBelongThere free-rolling eyes]] that he normally carried around in his hands. Cheerful and carefree, he never stressed about scaring as much as his roommates, just enjoying whatever misadventures they got into.

* AffablyEvil: He’s a monster, but he’s generally pretty nice.
* BigThinShortTrio: The Big to Oblina's Thin and Ickis' Short.
* BizarreAlienBiology: His eyes aren't even attached to his body, but somehow they still provide him vision nontheless.
* BrilliantButLazy: Krumm is actually more intelligent than he lets on (much to the surprise of The Gromble), to the point where he's actually scored second behind Oblina in scaring at least once. He only acts dumb because there's less pressure on himself that way.
* {{Cephalothorax}}: He's basically a giant, hairy mouth/belly combo with stubby limbs, a big nose, and a pair of free-floating eyeballs.
* {{Curse}}: Suffered from the Curse of the Krumm, a complete loss of his trademark hideous stench, for a period of time, but managed to break it with the help of his friends.
* EyesAreUnbreakable: Well, his father's fate implies they can be destroyed, but fortunately they're a ''lot'' tougher than human eyes.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Krumm carries his eyes around in his hands, allowing him to put them wherever he wants. He usually sticks them in his mouth if he needs to use his hands. In "Krumm Gets Ahead", Krumm gets a prosthetic head to hold his eyes so he can't lose them and so he has better use of his hands, but it causes complications for his scares due to [[AcquiredSituationalNarcissism his newfound vanity for it]] and it getting him stuck in toilets.
* TheFool: He's the goofy one of his friends.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: His family is called "the Krumm". Apparently, Horvak wasn't very imaginative when it came time to name his son.
* TheKirk: Generally, whenever Ickis and Oblina start arguing, he either tries to get them to stop, or he stays out of it. But even he gets frustrated with it from time to time.
* LoserSonOfLoserDad: Downplayed. His father Horvak flunked out of the academy and became a muck farmer, and the Gromble doesn't exactly expect a whole lot out of Krumm himself. Krumm seems pretty okay with this, though.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The manly man to Ickis' sensitive guy. Sometimes, this can be inverted between the two.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: His dad looks just like him, except with mustache-like whiskers under his nose and a black glove over one hand (due to losing his eye during the American Revolution).
** His Uncle Grungy is less similar, being a BlobMonster, but he does have Krumm and Horvak's nose and hands.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: He and Ickis are the Two Guys to Oblina's Girl.
* WeaponizedStench: Krumm's horrible stench can be aimed or deployed at humans to temporarily disarm them.

!!!Oblina
[[quoteright:186:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oblina.png]]
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/ChristineCavanaugh

Though her family had enough toenails that she could lounge in the lap of luxury for the rest of her life, Oblina chose to attend the Monster Academy. Since she could [[OneWingedAngel pull her insides out]], she quickly became top scarer in their class, despite having two of the ''worst'' students as her roommates. Frequently tries to get them to take their studies more seriously, and isn't above gloating whenever ignoring her advice gets them in trouble... but isn't above the antics herself, and [[OddFriendship still considers them her best friends]].

* ActionGirl: Or the scarier equivalent.
* BalloonBelly: Because of how slender she is, when she eats something, it tends to visibly bulge through her skin as she swallows. A focal point in [[SickEpisode "Internal Affairs"]], in which she becomes infested by a parasite-monster that forces her to consume random junk to decorate his new home in her stomach, to the point it's feared she'll eventually rupture something.
* BecomingTheMask: Happened once; while disguised as a human to gather information on them, she had a bad reaction to cotton candy and ended up believing she was really human.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Ickis, the two snipe at each other all the time but it’s clear they’re attracted to each other.
* BigThinShortTrio: The Thin to Krumm's Big and Ickis' Short.
* BodyHorror: Whenever she turns her body inside out to scare people.
* BracesOfOrthodonticOverkill: After a youthful indiscretion of brushing her teeth ''once'', she had to get a set of these to ''un''straighten them. This grabbed the attention of the RomanticFalseLead -- or rather, his reflection off of them did...
%%* DetachableBodyParts: The end of "The Curse of Katana" sees her mouth being taken off and slapped onto a painting of a woman at a museum.
* GrowlingGut: This happens to her in "Internal Affairs".
* IWarnedYou: A common refrain on her part.
* InsufferableGenius: Oblina is a genuinely talented scarer, but between her natural skill and her rather high ego as a wealthy heiress, she can frankly become quite obnoxious.
* LonelyRichKid: More so when she first arrived at the Academy, but outside of Ickis and Krumm, she doesn't really have any friends, since the other young monsters think of her as snooty, stuck-up, and a teacher's pet.
* MonstrousCannibalism: She once threatened to eat Ickis.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Creator/ChristineCavanaugh said that she based Oblina's voice on actress Creator/AgnesMoorehead.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Despite her complaints, she could get swept up in things just as easily as her roommates. While she often derided Ickis' fascination with [[ForbiddenFruit human culture]], that didn't stop her from being entranced by The Lamp, or developing an obsession with Westerns, and so on and so forth.
* OneWingedAngel: You know the one...
* ParentalIssues: She's got.....''[[MyBelovedSmother mommy]]'' issues.
* TheSpock: She is generally the most intelligent and rational of our three protagonists.
* TeachersPet: She's the Gromble's personal favorite.
* ToiletHumor: She burps when she eats a shoelace, which, sounds quite weird.
* TwoGuysAndAGirl: She's the Girl to Ickis and Krumm's Two Guys.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: Speaks with a vaguely British accent, even though she is an American monster. Notably, her parents have a different accent. It also sounds vaguely New England-ish.
** In the Mexican Spanish dub, she speaks with a notable European accent in her voice, possibly in an attempt to sound her like [[{{Dracula}} another classic monster]].

Headmaster and head teacher, The Gromble certainly isn't afraid to berate, belittle and punish his students whenever they falter in their scaring or studies. Particularly likes to single out Ickis and his friends -- though admittedly, they ''do'' bring a lot of it down on themselves. For all his harshness, he really does care about his students and wants to see them succeed -- even if he has to beat every scrap of hard work out of them!

* AccessoryWearingCartoonAnimal: He wears a pair of black gloves, a black belt, and of course, four red pumps.
* AgonyOfTheFeet: In the first iteration of his MultipleChoicePast, the Gromble acquired his trademark high heels as a kid and has kept them ever since... even though he's outgrown the size he insists on wearing. His former teacher, the Shroink, explicitly tells Ickis, Krumm, and Oblina that the Gromble is so cranky all the time because his toes are pinched.
* BadassTeacher: When he's not being a SadistTeacher, he does prove to be helpful toward his students when they need him.
* CampStraight: He was melodramatic and wore red pumps, but in one episode had a crush on the female librarian.
* ChasteToons: He has two nephews.
* CreepyCrossdresser: For some odd reason, he wears red women's high heels on his feet. He's even got a room full of them.
* CreepyHighPitchedVoice: Downplayed. He has a high-pitched voice and is a LargeHam, and acts like a SadistTeacher sometimes, but deep down, he seems to really care for his students.
* DeanBitterman: He's the head of the academy and he tends to be very grouchy.
* {{Expy}}: The Gromble was patterned in voice and design after the [[WesternAnimation/YellowSubmarine head Blue Meanie]].
* {{Jerk With A Heart Of Gold}}: Has his fair share of {{Pet the Dog}} moments.
* LargeHam: He nearly rivals Ickis in the department of having lots of volume and vigor when he speaks.
* MultipleChoicePast: As stated in VagueAge, he was originally shown as a child learning from the Shroink in the 1920s, which is how he got his shoes... then he was later shown as having first become a teacher in the 1700s and was mentioned to have partaken in the hunt for the Holey Pail 400 years before the present.
* NotSoAboveItAll: In the episode when Krumm temporarily abandons Scaring School to become an actor in a horror movie, once the Gromble learns, he goes after the movie producer... and then agrees to take Krumm's place because Krumm had quit the role before he arrived!
%%* NotSoDifferentRemark: It was implied several times that when he was Ickis' age, he suffered a lot of the same problems and stumbling blocks. Even today, he has a certain implied fondness for human culture, since he keeps his own private collection of red high heel shoes that he wears at all times. It's also implied that he too has a famous ancestor, since "Klavadak the Mighty", the pioneer of the great northern sewer system, looks very much like the Gromble without any shoes.s
* PapaWolf: He'll go to great lengths for his students, and doesn't care if you're a member of his academy or not if he catches you toying with his students he '''''will''''' make you regret it.
* PetTheDog: Getting these moments now and then showed [[HiddenHeartOfGold how much he really cared about his students]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: A key indicator that you '''''really''''' ticked him off is that his eyes turn red (much in the same manner as Ickis' when he starts to loom, complete with the blood filling sound)
* SadistTeacher[=/=]SternTeacher: DependingOnTheWriter. His actions toward his students are often nothing short of cruel, but he is sometimes shown to care about his students and he's often depicted as only acting strict to deter them from goofing off.
* SecurityBlanket: His childhood bedtime toy Mr. Sluggy Buggy. He's frequently seen cuddling it as if he were still a child.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: He has "The" in his name.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: His mother shares some of his facial features and has a similar body shape.
* SuddenlyShouting: How he often speaks when he says something conciliatory to his students in a soft tone of voice right before he switches to a loud, angry tirade whenever he either demands them to do whatever he ordered his students to do or berate them for their mistakes.
* VagueAge: Possibly a {{Retcon}}? In one episode he was depicted as a young teacher just starting his career in the late 1700s, and another has him as a child in the 1920s.
** Teaching in the 1700s is more probable. He embarked on the Quest For The Holy Pail when he was a student... 400 years ago. The Gromble would have to be really 500 years old for some of his comments to even make sense, although it still seems like an exaggeration to say he hasn't seen another monster in centuries.
* VerbalTic: Switches between a sweet (and extremely sarcastic) tone of voice, a sinister growl, and over-the-top screaming at the drop of a hat.
-->'''The Gromble:''' Oh, Master Ickis, how ''inquisitive'' you are today! It is so '''''ANNOYING!!!'''''

TheUnintelligible monster who handles all the {{Cool And Unusual Punishment}}s rule-breaking students have to suffer. Very intelligent, with a love for the very same things he uses as punishments, like opera and square dancing. Unfortunately, the communication barrier makes it difficult to share his interests and thoughts with others...
----
* BerserkButton: Don't mess with his golden nosehair... he's very protective of it. The main trio figure this out the hard way.
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The big to Zimbo's little.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: His specialty. He’ll make you clean shoes and listen to bad music amongst many others.
* FlowersForAlgernonSyndrome: In "I Heard the Snorch Call My Name" he's fitted with an electronic voice box that allows him to speak normally, revealing himself to be a smart and sensitive creature. Unfortunately, it doesn't last and he's quite downcast when he returns to normal.
* HiddenDepths: The Snorch honestly enjoyed classical pursuits like opera and was highly intelligent.
* LoudOfWar: Music is a preferred punishment method of his.
* OddFriendship: When he can speak he forms a genuine friendship with Oblina, although it doesn't seem to last outside of that episode.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: He’s barely called Snorch. It’s almost always ''The'' Snorch.

As the only monster capable of understanding The Snorch -- and a craven little coward with a tiny body and no real physical strength of his own -- Zimbo likes to stick close to The Snorch and leech off his fearsome reputation. Also uses his size to his advantage by spying on the students and reporting back to The Gromble.
----
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The little to The Snorch's big.
* GreenAndMean: A green-haired jerk.
* TheInformant: To the Snorch and Gromble. If anything comes up, he’ll report it.
* {{Jerkass}}: In spades. Ickis freaked out about a cute movie? He freaks him out more to the point of ''potentially getting him institutionalized.''
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler:In "It's Only A Movie," he suffers a fate, after being revealed to be the monster in the Cuddles Bear suit who scares Ickis [[ForTheEvulz ''just for the heck of it'']] in the form of [[CoolAndUnusualPunishment having to listen to rather cutesy music]], done by The Snorch]].
* LightIsNotGood: He looks like a bee (the one insect that represents birth), but he's clearly no good guy.
* TheStoolPigeon: He's the Gromble's tattle-tale.
* TheNapoleon: The smallest and the nastiest monster. ''Ever''.
* ProfessionalButtKisser: To the Gromble and the Snorch.
* TranslatorBuddy: He is the only student who understands The Snorch's mutterings... although on the rare occasion where he disagrees with the Snorch, Zimbo will deliberately offer an incorrect translation.
* VillainousFriendship: Zimbo does seem to genuinely consider The Snorch a friend, though how much is genuine affection versus just using him to boost his own status is open to question.

* TheAce: Played straight, as he's a naturally gifted scarer and athlete and is a NiceGuy who's well-liked by almost everyone. On the other hand, he has some HiddenDepths suggesting he's not that different from his son.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Flashbacks show him as a chubby bonsty, and even nowadays he's quite a bit broader and heavier than Ickis. Yet Slickis still has an easy time scaring humans, can stand up to a tank, and is great at monster sports (evidenced when he bowls a perfect game of Gorblats.) He might be a BigEater as he cheerfully suggests buying a large amount of Slime Pies, and his first choice when listing father/son activities was to go forage for food.
* BoisterousBruiser: Extremely friendly, cheerful, and happy, making yet another stark contrast with his emotional son.
* GenerationXerox: Basically an older Ickis with a scar on one of the ears.
* MinorMajorCharacter: He's one of the most famous monsters to have ever graduated from the Gromble's Academy and father to Ickis, yet he only appears in 5 episodes (one of which is a flashback, and another is part of a dream sequence.)
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Has admitted that he didn't have the easiest time in school and was a lot like Ickis.
* PapaWolf: Risked his own life to save his son's from being flattened by a tank in a botched scaring attempt certainly counts
%%* ParentalIssues
* ScarsAreForever: As an adult, his ears are torn in several places.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Was a little taller than Ickis and had a stockier, sturdier build.

Krumm's father, an equally cheerful monster who makes his living as a muck farmer. Has only one eye, and wears a black glove over his empty hand.
----
* {{Curse}}: Like his son, suffered the effects of the Curse of the Krumm. ''Unlike'' his son, was never able to break it, and [[spoiler: lost his stench for good]].
* EyepatchOfPower: Wore a black glove over the hand that was supposed to hold his lost eye.
* EyeScream: He attempted to scare people in pre-Revolutionary America, but dropped one of his eyes as a soldier dropped a box of musket balls. The soldier grabbed Horvak's eye by mistake, loaded it, and... well, it was the Shot Heard Round the World.
* FantasticRacism: He doesn't want Krumm to attend class with a combustible monster, and tries to come up with an excuse for Krumm to leave.
* GenerationXerox: Basically Krumm without an eye.
* PermaStubble: Well, whatever kind it is for monsters.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Basically looked like an older version of his son (minus one eye).

Oblina's rich and overbearing mother. She disapproves of her daughter becoming a common scarer, and would much rather see her return to the lap of luxury.
----
%%* MyBelovedSmother
* RichBitch: Looks down upon other monsters who aren't as wealthy, and thinks that her daughter's dreams of becoming a great scarer are beneath her.

[[caption-width-right:350:"They want evidence? I'll get 'em evidence!"]]
!!!Simon D. Hunter
->'''Voiced by''': Creator/JamesBelushi

As his title implies, Simon is a self-declared monster hunter, determined to break the masquerade and prove once and for all that he isn't insane. Develops a very personal grudge against Ickis after the little monster thwarts his plans and keeps humiliating him. His surname and middle initial were given in his expired driver's license in the episode "Battle of the Century."
----
* BewareTheSillyOnes: He's hammy as can be and can be quite ditzy, but he's come up with his fair share of plans that put the monsters on defense. He's also independently wealthy, so he has the resources to construct various devices and implement his plans.
* CardCarryingVillain: In "Simon Strikes Back," he describes himself as "bad" and "worse" and eventually [[EvilIsHammy christens himself]] Simon the Terrible.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Despite constantly trying to capture the monsters, Simon means no particular harm to them. In the episode "Showdown" he even rescues Ickis from some more ruthless monster hunters who want to kill Ickis instead of capturing him alive.
* FinalBoss: He serves as this in the video game adaptation for the [[UsefulNotes/SuperNintendoEntertainmentSystem SNES]] and UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis. He launches nets at the monsters, grabs him with his claw if they get too close to him, and can only be damaged when they scare him. Hitting him with a projectile causes him to drop a Monster Manual, which allows the monsters to perform their scares.
* HeroAntagonist: [[KnightTemplar At least, he sees himself as one.]]
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: He wanted to prove that monsters were real, and fancied himself the OnlySaneMan, despite how the world at large viewed him as a lunatic. [[FromNobodyToNightmare As the series progressed]], he developed a personal vendetta against Ickis that drove him to increasingly nastier and ever-more-insane plans, eventually becoming dead-set on getting his revenge on monsters in general and the Trio in particular.
* HumongousMecha: Pilots one in "Battle of the Century."
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: Only Simon, the monster hunter, can hunt monsters.
* ItsPersonal: Over time, the humiliations pile up, so he develops a personal grudge towards Ickis.
* LargeHam: He ''knows'' how to make an entrance.
* MeaningfulName: Simon D. Hunter... Simon the hunter.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Whenever the monsters push him too far, he goes to extreme levels to catch them by force.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Believes he is a great hunter. The monsters can outperform him.
* StevenUlyssesPerhero
* StupidEvil: Most of his failures to catch a monster is his own fault. For example, in one episode, he finally succeeds in catching Bigfoot...and he would've succeeded in showing everyone proof if he didn't waste time reading such a long list, thus giving the other monsters time to free Bigfoot before he is exposed to the humans.
* TheyCalledMeMad: Known by and large as a crackpot, he will gladly indulge in this kind of ranting when embarking on a new scheme or when poised for victory. As noted above in regards to Bigfoot, his desire to lecture everyone about how he was right all along cost him the chance to ''prove'' he was right.
* YouHaveToBelieveMe: He is constantly ranting about monsters being real and always gets the reaction you'd expect such a person to get. Naturally, this makes proving he's not insane even harder. One episode outright ended with him in a straitjacket and locked in a padded room, all as he loudly kept trying to insist monsters were real.

!!!Bradley
->'''Voiced by''': Brett Alexander

A somewhat nerdy young boy who became curious about monsters after first encountering them. Briefly became Simon's apprentice; however, when Ickis told him [[TheyWouldCutYouUp what would happen if]] [[BrokenMasquerade monsterkind was revealed to humanity]], he promptly [[HeelFaceTurn helped them escape]] and became a SecretKeeper.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: He doesn’t seem like much aside from almost getting Ickis in trouble at first, but he ends up slightly more important later on in the season.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Reappears only once after his HeelFaceTurn.
* HeelFaceTurn: Goes from hunting Ickis to being one of his allies.
* SecretKeeper: One of the few people that knows about monsters.

[[folder:The Pool of Elders '''(Unmarked Spoilers)''']]
!!!The Pool of Elders
A mysterious pool of lava-like slime implied to be the source of existence for all monsters.
----
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: For something so important and for something The Gromble supposedly talks about a lot, it only appears and is even mentioned in just one episode.
* LivingMacguffin: The pool is evidently sentient and explains to Ickus that monsters were born out of the human mind. It is that very fear that fuels the pool and continues to give existence to monsterkind. If the pool ever dries up, then monsters will begin to vanish from existence altogether.
* MeaningfulName: The Pool of Elders is called such because it acts both as council for the Gromble and is implied to hold the souls of the ancient monsters that came before.
* WalkingSpoiler: It’s hard to talk about him without discussing the plot of ''Where Have All the Monsters Gone?''.
