BigNo in Anime & Manga.
----
* In ''Anime/{{Air}}'', when [[ItWasHisSled Misuzu]] [[TearJerker dies,]] her mother figure shouts out her name in this fashion ("MISUZUUUUUUUU!").
* A majority of the regular cast in episode 10 in the ''Anime/AirGear'' anime let out a huge "NOO!!!!" after Akito kisses [[EvenTheGuysWantHim Ikki]].
* During the SchoolFestival, Ao of ''Manga/AsteroidInLove'' lets out this when her mother Shiori tries to take photos of her in {{meido}} outfit the the Earth Science Club's booth.
* During the traumatic end of the first episode of ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'', Eren Yeager lets loose with a big ''"YAMEROOOOOOOOOO!"'' [[note]]"STOP IT!"[[/note]] as his mother is about to get eaten by the Smiling Titan. In the manga and the English dub, this scene is served with a proper BigNo.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Kon does one in episode 15.
** In anime episode 79 (the Bount arc), Uryu Ishida has one after Yoshino is killed.
** Shinji does this in the flashback (Turn Back the Pendulum) arc.
** In anime episode 217, Charlotte Cuuhlhourne does one just before he's killed by Yumichika's sword.
** In anime episode 271, Orihime Inoue does one right after Ulquiorra fires a cero blast into Ichigo Kurosaki, leaving a huge hole in his chest and apparently killing him. In its original manga rendition (chapter 349), it spans '''two pages''' and she even needs to take a breath before continuing with it.
** Toshiro Hitsugaya in chapter 392 when he realizes he's stabbed [[spoiler:Momo and not Aizen in the chest.]]
** In manga chapter 459, [[spoiler:Ichigo Kurosaki when Kūgo Ginjō steals his Fullbring.]]
** An arrancar girl does this when [[PsychoLesbian Chizuru]] makes perverted advances towards her in the anime.
** [[AdaptationExpansion In the anime]], when [[spoiler: Riruka in Rukia's body]] sees a maddened [[spoiler: Tsukishima]] attack [[spoiler: Ichigo]], she shouts "NOOOOOO!" and [[spoiler: uses Rukia's body to propel herself there, then switch into her own body [[GoThroughMe to stop him]].]]
* In ''Manga/Brave10'', Sasuke gives a very vehement one after Kamanosuke asks him if he could skin his weasel Amaharu.
* ''Manga/BrynhildrInTheDarkness'': Kanade understandably gives one when [[CruelAndUnusualDeath her captors eject the Harness device on her neck, causing her]] [[ImMelting body to melt]].
* ''Manga/CardCaptorSakura'': Meiling lets out one when Syaoran is injured by The Shot, which she accidentally released.
* In ''Anime/CodeGeass'', Lelouch has one when he loses a life-or-death game of chess to [[PsychopathicManchild Mao]] -- and the life on the line was [[BigBrotherInstinct Nunnally]]. [[spoiler:Though as it turns out, she was perfectly safe and he [[MagicalEye Geassed]] himself for some EnforcedMethodActing.]]
** A few episodes earlier, Shirley lets out an anguished one of these [[spoiler:while crying into Lelouch's chest after telling him about how her father was killed in the Battle of Narita.]]
** The English Dub presents us with Suzaku's epic "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJX-YTPZVH4 (g)NOOOOOOOOO(me)!]]" [[spoiler: when his currently BrainwashedAndCrazy LoveInterest, Euphemia li Britannia, is gunned down by Lelouch right as he arrives on the scene.]] He immediately flies into an UnstoppableRage and barges even past the Guren [=MKII=] and the Gawain with his Lancelot [[spoiler: to grab the mortally wounded Euphemia and get her out of there.]]
* ''Anime/CrossAnge'':
** After [[FallenPrincess Princess Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi]] is outed as a Norma (a person unable to use the Light of Mana), she furiously attacks the authorities trying to arrest her with a sword. Her mother, Empress Sophia, jumps in front of her and [[TakingTheBullet is shot in the heart saving her]]. In the English Dub, she lets out a shrill "MOTHER, NOOOOOO!" when the Empress [[DiedInYourArmsTonight dies in her arms]].
*** She lets out an even ''bigger'' one when she is put on the receiving end of a ''brutal'' [[AssShove cavity search]] during her "conscription" to Arzenal Military.
*** And yet again [[spoiler:when she realizes she got [[RedShirt Coco and Miranda]], and even [[MentorOccupationalHazard Zola]] killed because of her own cowardice. In the same episode, she lets out another one when the [=DRAGON=] who killed Zola is about to [[EatenAlive eat her alive]]. She survives thanks to an EleventhHourSuperpower awakening, and after that, she no longer does it.]]
*** [[spoiler:Except when she sees both Momoka and Tusk perform a HeroicSacrifice to save her from [[BigBad Embryo]].]]
** Rosalie does one when [[spoiler:her former girlfriend Chris callously obliterates new recruit Marika.]]
** In a flashback, [[spoiler:Hilda's mother did this when her Norma daughter was ripped away from her by the police. Her past reactions make it all the more jarring when Hilda tries to reunite with her, [[IHaveNoSon only to be coldly told to get out]] [[FantasticRacism because her mother grew to hate the fact that she had a Norma for a daughter]].]]
* ''Manga/DailyLivesOfHighSchoolBoys'': Hidenori had one in his InternalMonologue when [[WrongGenreSavvy the literature girl]] is sitting next to him again. Why? She's projecting the image of her novel's male protagonist onto him, which weirded him out.
* ''Manga/DawnOfTheArcana'': Nakaba wakes up screaming this when she has a dream foreseeing Caesar getting killed. She has another one when her hair is dyed black.
* In ''Manga/DestinyOfTheShrineMaiden'', Himeko releases two when [[spoiler: Chikane rapes her]]. The English is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16FX8vgMurE&feature=related even better]].
* In ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'', [[spoiler:Hikari does one when Wizardmon "dies", leading to the activation of her crest]]. It was strangely cut from the dub. Equally as strange, the clip was shown in a brief flashback in a later episode, except during a voiceover narration, so her voice was not heard. Also used in the episode "Ogremon's Honor" by Mimi when [[ItWasHisSled Leomon "dies"]][[note]]With the exception of ''Data Squad'', Digimon don't actually "die", exactly. They just get reconfigured. They are computer data, after all.[[/note]]
* ''Anime/DragonBallZ'':
** Goku lets out one of the biggest Big Nos ever: [[spoiler:after defeating Frieza on a crumbling Namek, Goku tries to escape on Frieza's ship, but unfortunately, the ship was damaged and plummets into a fissure to dissolve in lava, leaving our hero with no way to escape.]]
** Let's not forget Jeice's TWO Big Nos for the price of one when he realizes Vegeta is going to kill him late in the Frieza Saga.
** Goku uses Instant Transmission to do a point blank Kamehameha on Cell [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg1bCXFLKdY here]].
** Super Buu's Big No [[spoiler:rips a hole in a dimension.]]
** Earlier in the same season (in the original and English dub), Bulma lets out one upon learning that [[spoiler:Vegeta has been killed by Buu]].
** Even earlier, in the dub only (he screams "Goku" in the original), Krillin uses one when it becomes clear that [[spoiler:Goku is going to sacrifice himself to take Cell away]].
** In the dub, Trunks seemed to have mastered the {{Narm}} of the Big No, with lines like "If they let that android free, it will be the end of all of us! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" (Lampshaded in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HOAETv_nVo this fanvid]]) and not too long after "FATHER! hurgh, NOOOOOO! FATH-ER!"
** But Trunks also has a decidedly non-narmy Big No in the dub of ''Anime/DragonBallZTheHistoryOfTrunks'' when he finds Future Gohan dead. In the original Japanese, it's a simple SkywardScream.
** At the end of ''Anime/DragonBallZResurrectionF'', [[spoiler:Frieza has a particularly bad one once he's back in his IronicHell and the fairies welcome him back to his tree.]]
* Pedro from ''Anime/ExcelSaga'' is infamous for doing the Big No at least {{Once an Episode}}.
* ''Manga/FairyTail'':
** This is Erza's reaction when [[spoiler:Simon dies in her arms [[TakingTheBullet after protecting her]] from a possessed Jellal]].
** Lisanna lets out one followed by lots of crying after [[spoiler:Mirajane sacrifices herself to save her from Azuma's 180-Second Time Bomb, [[DisneyDeath presumably dying]] as a result]].
** Natsu when [[spoiler:he loses Igneel]] in episode 264 English Dub.
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'':
** [[spoiler: The second]] Greed gets one of these [[spoiler: after the revived and amnesiac Greed unknowingly kills the last living member of the former Greed's QuirkyMinibossSquad]]. Ling, [[spoiler:whose body the current Greed is inhabiting,]] asks [[WhatTheHellHero What The Hell Anti-Villain]], causing [[spoiler:the old Greed's memories to resurface, with the new one]] letting out a screen-filling, gut-wrenching, Big No.
** Hohenheim [[spoiler:pulls an inarticulate scream of despair and horror]] after [[spoiler:he realizes he's the LastOfHisKind (the last human alive in Xerxes, his country, to be exact) and has become a living philosopher's stone]].
** In chapter 107, [[spoiler: Ed lets out a Big No when he realizes Al is sacrificing his own soul to restore Ed's real arm and save him from Father.]]
** Episode 45 of ''Brotherhood'' sees LargeHam Alex Armstrong giving big no after big no. He's fighting his sister, FourStarBadass Oliver Armstrong.
%%* ''Manga/FushigiYuugi'' makes use of this trope through Miaka, Tamahome, Miaka, Chichiri, Miaka, Yui, Miaka...

* In season 2, episode 6 of ''Manga/GirlsBravo'', a cross-dressing Yukinari screams this at one point.
* In ''Anime/GuiltyCrown'', [[spoiler:Mana Ouma does it twice. The first is when she caused the Lost Christmas outbreak, and the second time happens in the final episode]].
* ''Anime/HaloLegends'': Specifically in ''The Duel'', where Fal [[spoiler: discovers the dead body of his wife and lets out his "NOOOOOOOOO"]]. His inflection makes it a bit difficult to tell, but it seems more like an inarticulate SkywardScream.
* Chitose utters these quite often when having to deal with his self-proclaimed mothers on ''Manga/HappyLesson'', but the entire Biology class gets one when the lesson of the day is: "Dissection - Live chicks".
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'': Chibitalia when HRE tries to make him a part of the Holy Roman Empire.
%% ZCE * In ''Manga/HidamariSketch'', Miyako seems to inspire a number of these.
* Satoko plays this straightforward the anime-exclusive "Disaster Awakening" chapter of ''Anime/HigurashiWhenTheyCry'' when she [[spoiler:sees the bodies of her schoolmates in the aftermath of a disastrous toxic gas leak that wiped out virtually the entire population of 2,000 people in her village other than herself]].
* In ''Manga/IkkiTousen Dragon Destiny'', an anguished [[spoiler:Kan'u]] screams "NO!" and follows it with [[spoiler:Ryuubi]]'s [[SayMyName name]] towards the end, when [[spoiler:Ryuubi is fully taken over by her SuperpoweredEvilSide]].
* In ''Anime/InuYashaTheMovieAffectionsTouchingAcrossTime'', Kagome lets out a rather chilling one after [[spoiler:being forced to shoot Inuyasha by the BigBad]] Complete with lack of BGM and echoes. It is used rather effectively though.
* In the first episode of ''Manga/IsTheOrderARabbit'', Tippy does one when Cocoa is holding him too long. At first she's confused by it, but Chino tries to play it off as ventriloquism. However, Tippy is later revealed to be [[TalkingAnimal able to talk]].
* ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'':
** ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureBattleTendency Battle Tendency]]'': During [[spoiler:Caesar's death scene]], Joseph adds in a BigNo in GratuitousEnglish after a SayMyName moment.

** ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureDiamondIsUnbreakable Diamond is Unbreakable]]'': Okuyasu has this as his reaction to the dry skin of his body falling off after eating Antonio's food.
** ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureStoneOcean Stone Ocean]]'': Emporio yells a brief "No!" after [[spoiler:Jolyne's HeroicSacrifice]] just as he [[SayMyName screams her name]].
* The English dub of ''Anime/{{Kanon}} (2006)'' has the young Yuichi screaming "NOOOOOOOOOO!" after [[spoiler: Ayu falls off a tree and apparently dies (she actually slips into a [[ConvenientComa coma]]). In the Japanese version Yuichi instead screams "[[SayMyName AYUUUUUUUUUU]]!"]]
* Used in ''Manga/{{Karin}}'' (also called ''Chibi Vampire'') in conjunction with BigOMG when Winner sees his most recent test score. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dJ-C-1Hrw0 Link]]
* In ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'', during a financial crisis, Miu has the masters of Ryouzanpaku give lessons to small children. Kenichi is amused to see the straight-faced (but cruel) Akisame being run ragged by the hyperactive kiddies, but enacts this trope when he later sees what kind of effect his teachings have.
* The sixth volume of the ''Manga/KingOfThorn'' manga devotes a full page to a Big No [[spoiler:by Shizuku when Kasumi dies]].
* In ''Manga/KOn'', Mio lets out one of these after her on-stage... accident. Involving a "bowl of rice."
* ''Manga/LiarGame'' plays this straight with Ms. Kosaka upon her defeat.
* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':
** DelicateAndSickly Hayate has a huge, primal one near the end of the second season. Considering how it punctuates a particularly nasty BreakTheCutie moment, the overall effect is quite chilling.
** In the fourth Megami sound stage, Shamal gives one in a more light-hearted moment when [[spoiler:Agito]] inadvertently shows Hayate a cake from Nanoha's parents' cafe that was supposed to be a surprise (as part of celebrating the tenth anniversary of Hayate recovering) due to being unable to read the kanji on the box.
** Fate has one in the one-shot "Second Mother's Day," when she worries that when Vivio doesn't give her a gift for Mother's day, she will soon stop seeing her as a mother and eventually no longer recognize her.
** [[SmugSnake Quattro]] gets one of these off just seconds before [[MamaBear Nanoha's]] DungeonBypass WaveMotionGun utterly frags her.

* ''Anime/{{Mega Man NT Warrior|2002}}'': Lan, and whole number of spectators, react with their with own individual "No!" upon VideoGame/{{Mega Man|BattleNetwork}} getting deleted by Pharaoh Man.
* ''Literature/TheMisfitOfDemonKingAcademy'': After being forcibly turned into a half-demon and will always revive as one every time she dies, Emilia Ludowell starts saying no several times with her biggest one occurring when Anos leaves her behind in the nude.
* In a mid-series episode of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing'', Duo gives one out when Trowa destroys his Gundam[[note]]As part of an IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten situation[[/note]]. It's even bigger in the US dub; voice actor Creator/ScottMcNeil has said in order to achieve this, he thought about the time his wife ran over his motorcycle with the family minivan. It's actually so famous that he's often asked to re-enact it at conventions.
* In the final scene of the last episode of ''Manga/{{Monster}}'' we are treated to a flashback of Nina's and Johann's childhood where their mother is [[spoiler: forced to give one of them up for an experiment.]] The two hold onto their mother's hand begging her not to let go, and their mother hesitates [[spoiler: before handing over Nina]] who proceeds to scream "No!" in horror as [[TearsOfFear tears]] spring from [[spoiler: her]] eyes.
* ''Anime/MyHime'' has more than a few instances of this happening. Of course, what with all that's going on in that series (especially later on), the characters can be forgiven for yelling {{Big No}}s.
* Used in ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'' by the title character, twice in the final episode [[spoiler:first when Emperor Neo sacrifices his life to free her from Gargoyle's control, and, even more heartbreakingly, when Gargoyle kills Jean by making him fall to the floor. (Nadia eventually revives him with the Blue Water.)]]
* In ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', Izumo yells this in his mind [[spoiler: a few seconds before Hidan kills Asuma.]]
* Though the series engages in more and more towards the end, the biggest of Big Noes in ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' are one by Asuka [[spoiler:at the end of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ0doO3VFjc her]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM-OOy9jc04 Mind Rape]]]], one by Shinji after [[spoiler: realizing his Mecha has been used by his father to crush the Entry Plug loaded with his unconscious best friend]], another for Shinji after [[spoiler:seeing that the MP-Evas have murdered and EATEN Asuka alive]] and one by Maya Ibuki (who spends most of ''End of Evangelion'' freaking out) after [[spoiler:Giant Naked Rei's hand passes right through her entire body]]. Some of these were dubbed into English as inarticulate yells, probably to avoid being straight-up {{Narm}}.
* At the end of the first ep of ''Manga/NyanKoi'', Junpei lets out one in its full Engrish glory.
* Melfina of ''Manga/OutlawStar'' screams "NO!" in episode 17 which stops Harry's [[MindRape hacking attempt]] on her.

%%* ''Manga/RosarioPlusVampire'': Kurumu in chapter 41 of the second manga season.
* ''Anime/SailorMoon'': This occurs a lot, but particularly in the last episodes of the first and last seasons when all her friends [[spoiler:seemingly die]].
** In the first episode of the second season, ''R'', Usagi screams this as Luna restores her memories so that she can become Sailor Moon again to fight the new threat of the Makai Tree Aliens.
** In one episode of Sailor Moon S, we see the light go out in [[spoiler:Sailor Uranus']] eyes after a long and labored speech about needing Sailor Moon to complete their mission. Usagi gives a particularly heart-wrenching scream.
* ''Manga/SayonaraZetsubouSensei'' subverts this by having one of the girls peep on their (male) teacher, and when they knock over the privacy wall and each side gets a good eye-full of the other, only he {{screams|LikeALittleGirl}}, much to his consternation.
* ''Anime/SchoolDays'':
** Sekai yells this in the last anime episode, [[spoiler: when Kotonoha and Makoto kiss in front of her.]]
** In episode 10 Nanami [[HeroicBSOD becomes extremely upset]] after the SchoolFestival, when [[spoiler: a sex tape of her and her boyfriend is shown to many classmates as a cruel joke from Otome's GirlPosse.]] She lets out one of these before collapsing to the ground in tears.

* ''Anime/{{Symphogear}} G'' sees [[TheHero Hibiki Tachibana]] give a Sharp Chigau[[note]]"That's wrong!"[[/note]] in the penultimate episode to the way the antagonists constantly call her a [[InsistentTerminology "human-relic fusion specimen"]].
--> '''Maria:''' "Out of my way, Human-Relic Fusion Specimen One!"
--> '''Hibiki:''' "No! [[MyNameIsInigoMontoya I'm Hibiki Tachibana, age 16!]] [[ItIsDehumanizing I'm not some "fusion specimen!"]] I'm just Hibiki Tachibana, and I came here to talk to you!"
* Happens in a couple of Hinako Takanaga's works:
** In ''Manga/TheTyrantFallsInLove'', the homophobic Souichi does this whenever his lab assistant Morinaga comes onto him. Matters are confused because he doesn't want to face up to his potential homosexuality and so pretends to resist Morinaga to satisfy his own guilt even when he secretly wants to have sex - the BigNo comes out when he ''really'' doesn't want it and needs to make that clear.
