* ''Manga/The100GirlfriendsWhoReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyLoveYou'' starts out like it's setting up one of these when the protagonist meets and immediately falls for two girls at once: the [[{{Tsundere}} aggressively violent but secretly shy]] Karane and the [[TheOjou posh and polite]] but [[TheTease secretly scheming]] Hakari. But Rentarou is ''literally incapable of choosing;'' both girls are his fate-destined soulmates and therefore perfect partners for him. And so, he decides ''not'' to choose, [[{{Polyamory}} instead openly and with their consent dating both.]] [[EnsembleCast And that's just the start of it...]]
* ''Anime/{{Aggretsuko}}'' features this dynamic in every season with Retsuko, Haida, and a mutable third party. Season 1 and 2 feature Retsuko as the Archie and Haida as Betty, with the the Veronica role being taken by the quiet Resasuke in Season 1, and tech mogul Tadano in Season 2. In Season 3, [[spoiler: Haida takes his turn as the Archie, with Retsuko as his Veronica and the role of Betty filled by Innui.]]
* ''Manga/AiYoriAoshi'' ''could'' have had this, with [[NiceGuy Kaoru]] between the sweet, innocent YamatoNadeshiko Aoi (Betty), and the wilder, worldly BlitheSpirit Tina (Veronica). This would have also reversed the usual [[ColorCodedForYourConvenience color coding]], as the former is brunette ([[ShyBlueHairedGirl sorta]]), while the latter is blond. However, the Veronica [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage never really had a chance]], in this case.[[note]] Tina is still "innocent" in one way (ie, still a virgin).[[/note]]
* ''Manga/AirGear'' has Ikki as the Archie, his [[PatientChildhoodLoveInterest childhood friend]] Ringo as the Betty, the [[FemmeFatale beautiful and slightly manipulative]] Simca as the Veronica, and the new girl Kururu as the ThirdOptionLoveInterest. [[spoiler: He chooses Ringo.]]
%%* In ''Manga/AngelDensetsu'' there's Ikuno as the Veronica and Ryoko as the Betty.
* If Setsuna of ''Manga/AngelSanctuary'' is Archie, then Demon Princess Kurai is Veronica and sweet, kind-hearted Sara is Betty.
%%* Official parodies for ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'' portray Eren as the [[ChasteHero clueless]] Archie to Mikasa (Betty) and Annie (Veronica). In the main canon, there are [[ShipTease implications]] of such a dynamic, but it's left ambiguous due to the series' avoidance of romance.
* ''Manga/{{BECK|1999}}'' has Koyuki as the Archie, his [[NiceGirl sweet]] {{childhood friend}} Izumi as the Betty, and free-spirited {{Tsundere}} Maho as the Veronica.
* ''Manga/{{Beelzebub}}'' has Aoi and Hilda, Oga Tatsumi's romantic options. Aoi (Betty) is human, and kind-hearted despite being a delinquent. Hilda (Veronica) is a demon who dresses in black and is very cold and dismissive to Tatsumi. Due to circumstances involving Hilda imposing herself in Tatsumi's home, this perspective is inverted in-universe, with Tatsumi's classmates calling Hilda and Aoi "wife and mistress", respectively.
* Played slightly different in ''Manga/BitterVirgin'': Main character Daisuke initially has two primary suitors who each view the other as her biggest rival in love, Yuzu, the childhood friend who's fiercely straight-laced, and Kazuki, the most stylish girl in the class. However, in this case neither is the true love interest; that title goes to the ShrinkingViolet Hinako.
* ''Manga/BlackCat'': The protagonist Train has three female love interests and [[EvenTheGuysWantHim one male one]]. The three girls are like this on a scale of Betty to Veronica: Saya (the one closest to Train and was very caring to him when she was alive), Rinslet (the {{Tsundere}} thief who tend to deny any attraction to him), Kyoko (although she is smitten with Train, she was an assassin who had killed more than a few people by the time she had a crush on him and thus the most disturbing female love interest). However, all of them are Betty compared to the aforementioned male Creed, who is Train's ArchEnemy, has a [[StalkerWithACrush very creepy obsession]] with him, gets insanely jealous at anyone close to him, [[MurderTheHypotenuse killed Saya]] because he [[InsaneTrollLogic believed]] that she was a "witch" who corrupted Train, and when he realized that Train will never [[WeCanRuleTogether become his ally]], he decided that he would rather have Train by his side [[IfICantHaveYou as a]] [[{{Yandere}} dead body]] rather than continue to let the "witch" ruin him.
* ''Manga/BlackClover'': The hero Asta has two primary love interests who have romantic feelings for him. Mimosa is the Betty, being much kinder and gentler, more openly affectionate towards Asta, and modest about her status as royalty. Noelle is the Veronica, as she's haughty and aloof girl, a {{Tsundere}} to Asta, and proud about being a royal. Incidentally, both of them are royalty instead of one or the other.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'': The kind and pacifist GirlNextDoor Orihime Inoue looks like a good Betty and the {{Tsundere}} Rukia seems to be a nice Veronica. Ichigo and Rukia are very close friends; on the other hand, Orihime already confessed her love for Ichigo but he wasn't conscious at the time to hear. Ichigo is more than willing to scale both Soul Society and Hueco Mundo in order to rescue both of them (in separate arcs) and the 'other' girl heartily participates in the rescue: Orihime is the BarrierWarrior and healer in Soul Society who actually came up with the idea of rescuing Rukia, while Rukia recovers her ActionGirl credentials by the time the Hueco Mundo arc kicks in and joins Ichigo's quest for Orihime without hesitation. [[spoiler: It turns out that ''there was never a LoveTriangle between them to start with'': Rukia was always TheNotLoveInterest [[PlatonicLifePartners to Ichigo]] and her romantic feelings [[ChildhoodFriendRomance were for her childhood friend Renji]] instead, whereas Ichigo and Orihime developed more and more ShipTease as time passed, and ultimately were HappilyMarried.]]
%%* In ''Anime/BloodPlus'', Solomon is the Veronica (though he's blond) and Haji the Betty (though he has black hair) to Saya's Archie.
* In ''Anime/BlueCometSPTLayzner'', the cute-looking Anna Stephanie (Betty) and the tomboyish Simone Reflanne (Veronica) were tailor-cut to be this to TheHero Eiji Asuka. [[spoiler: The series finishes with Eiji and Anna as the OfficialCouple, and with Simone staying with Eiji's {{Lancer}} David Rutherford.]]
* ''Manga/BlueExorcist'':
** Combined with SiblingTriangle, there's the rough and lively older brother Rin as the Veronica and the calm and polite younger brother Yukio as the Betty to their mutual crush, Shiemi. However, as the story goes on, they begin to [[BettyAndVeronicaSwitch switch places]] as Rin matures and Yukio's inner darkness rises to the surface.
** To a lesser extent, Rin serves as the Archie to Shiemi's very sweet Betty and Izumo's haughty Veronica. However, Rin doesn't even realize that Izumo is crushing on him, and [[spoiler:Shiemi reveals that she isn't even interested in romance with anyone right now, feeling that she is too young for that.]]
%%* In ''Manga/BokuraNoHentai'' Ryousuke's girlfriend Miki is the "Veronica" to Marika's "Betty". Ryousuke likes his girlfriend but harbors a crush on Marika that's hard to resist. [[spoiler:He eventually dumps Miki to confess to Marika but that goes nowhere.]] The DistantFinale has a MaybeEverAfter [[spoiler:for Ryousuke and Miki as adults]].
* ''Manga/BoysOverFlowers'':
** The heroine Tsukushi Makino is the object of both Rui's (the calm, supportive Betty) and Domyoji's (the violent, passionate Veronica) affections. Subverted in that Makino initially has unrequited feelings for Rui, while it is Domyoji who has (initially) one-sided feelings for her, and in that the Veronica triumphs.
** To take the comparison further, Tsukushi is the Betty (tomboy but nice) and Sakurako (snarky and manipulative) is the Veronica to the Archie Tsukasa. Later on, Shigeru replaces Sakurako as the Veronica (energetic, aggressive, passionate) while Tsukushi is still a Betty to Tsukasa's Archie.
* ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'':
** Sakura's two potential love interests are the gentle NiceGuy Yukito (Betty) and the foreign JerkWithAHeartOfGold Syaoran (Veronica). Played with in the end: [[spoiler: Yukito ended up with Sakura's ''brother'', and by the time Sakura fell for Syaoran, he was ''far'' more of a NiceGuy.]]
** In the anime, Syaoran develops a crush on Sakura, but his [[KissingCousins cousin]] Meiling wants to marry him. The dichotomy is PlayedWith--the sweet AllLovingHeroine Sakura has more of a "Betty" personality, but she's the new girl, while the short-tempered ClingyJealousGirl Meiling has the "Veronica" personality but has a ChildhoodMarriagePromise with Syaoran. [[spoiler: Again, Sakura and Syaoran get together, and shortly before that, Meiling [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy breaks off her "engagement" to Syaoran so he can be free to be with Sakura]].]]
* From Dominique's perspective, there's two {{love triangle}}s going on in ''Manga/TheCaseStudyOfVanitas'': Dominique believes the sheltered FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire Noé (Betty) is attracted to Jeanne, who is becoming captivated by the mysterious AntiHero Vanitas (Veronica). Whereas, Dominique sees herself as Noé's UnluckyChildhoodFriend (Betty) who pales in comparison to the more enticing and buxom executioner-turned-knight Jeanne (Veronica). However, Dominique is very likely a case of WrongGenreSavvy since she's just assuming Noé has feelings for Jeanne because [[PsychologicalProjection she sees in Jeanne what she lacks to be desirable as a woman]]. [[KnowledgeBroker Dante]] does tell Dominique that Vanitas and Jeanne becoming a couple would be in her best interests, but considering Dante is all but stated to be a [[HomoeroticSubtext VanitasxNoé]] [[ShipperOnDeck shipper]], he probably means someone other than Jeanne might take Noé.
* ''Manga/CatsEye'' has a lot of fun with this trope, depending on who's the Archie:
** The first triangle has Toshio as the Archie, while Hitomi and Asatani mix up Betty and Veronica traits: Hitomi is Toshio's childhood friend, they have actually been dating the whole time (though they're in a rough period at the start of the story), and she works at the family cafè, while Asatani is the newcomer with an aggressive personality and working as a police officer like Toshio, making them appear the Betty and Veronica respectively... But Hitomi is also ''far'' more attractive (to the point Toshio flat-out stated that in summer, when wearing less-covering clothes, Hitomi makes him horny just by being there, but he calms down immediately by ''looking at Asatani''), and [[DatingCatwoman being one of the Cat's Eye thieves Toshio is hunting down]] she's the less "safe" option.
** The second triangle has Hitomi as the Archie and once again mixes up things, as Toshio should be the Betty while ChivalrousPervert Kamiya should be the Veronica... But Toshio is the cop hunting down her secret identity and Kamiya an allied thief, so Kamiya is in a way the safer option.
** A third has Asatani as the Archie, with Toshio as the unknowing Betty, Kamiya as the accidental Veronica, and the mysterious male member of Cat's Eye as the ThirdOptionLoveInterest... Except the male member of Cat's Eye is actually ''[[AttractiveBentGender Hitomi's older sister Rui in a male disguise]]'' who charmed Asatani ''by complete accident'' (she walked on Rui as she was trying out the disguise, and was immediately smitten). [[spoiler:Asatani gets together with Kamiya after his ''epic'' AccidentalProposal]].
** The final and weirdest one has Toshio as the Archie, Hitomi as the Betty... And [[SecretIdentityIdentity Hitomi's Blonde Cat's Eye alter ego as the Veronica]], ''trying to seduce Toshio away from her public persona and have him join Cat's Eye'' ([[LampShadeHanging at one point she started wondering what was wrong with herself]]). Toshio always remains loyal to Hitomi, though at one point he starts just hoping Hitomi ''is'' the alluring Blonde Cat's Eye.
* ''Manga/CeresCelestialLegend'' includes a male example: [[ChildhoodFriends Yuuhi]], the BadassNormal, is Betty, while [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys Touya]] is Veronica, what with his dark and MysteriousPast.
* The sweet and friendly normal classmate [[AllLovingHeroine Shirley Fenette]] and the {{Tsundere}} rebel fighter [[ActionGirl Kallen Kozuki]] of ''Anime/CodeGeass'' fill these roles towards [[TheChessmaster Lelouch vi Britannia]]. Either way, [[CelibateHero he's too busy trying to overthrow the Holy Britannian Empire to focus on them]]. And at the end, [[spoiler:neither of them wins; Shirley gets killed by [[TykeBomb Rolo]], and Lelouch rejects Kallen so she won't get caught up in his [[ThanatosGambit Zero Requiem]].]] There's also [[MysteriousWaif C.C.]], his Geass contract partner and the one girl who stays by his side to the end. She acts as a ThirdOptionLoveInterest and something of a cross between the Betty and Veronica tropes, [[spoiler:but same as Kallen, she loses out when Lelouch orchestrates his own death]]. In the CompilationMovie AU, however, [[spoiler: Lelouch, who has been resurrected and become immortal like C.C. is, stays with ''her.'']]
* Possibly lampshaded in ''Anime/CowboyBebop''. To Spike there isn't much choice between Julia, (his long lost LoveInterest), and Faye, (MsFanservice) as he's madly in love with Julia and things with Faye never go beyond a proto-{{UST}} stage. However it's somewhat telling that when Jet asks BrokenBird Faye what Julia was like, Faye responds with "[[FemmeFatale Ordinary. A beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you can't leave alone]]", which perhaps defines the roles of the two.
* ''Anime/CrossAnge'': [[FallenPrincess Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi]] is the tomboyish female Archie, while her sweet, goofy, lovable male LoveInterest [[BadassNormal Tusk]] is the handsome male Betty, and lesbian FieryRedhead [[LovableAlphaBitch Hilda]] is the spicy, prissy Veronica. Ange ultimately leans towards Tusk [[spoiler:and even [[TheirFirstTime loses her virginity with him]] in Episode 22]], but also [[spoiler:kisses Hilda to reaffirm that there's [[{{Gayngst}} nothing wrong with the fact that Hilda's into other girls]]]]. Nevertheless, [[spoiler:Ange is seemingly far more invested in Tusk, her [[LadyAndKnight "Knight of Ange"]], and [[HappilyMarried winds up marrying him]] after they defeat [[BigBad Embryo]]. But implications are there that she ''may'' have gone the MarryThemAll route and chose both of them. ''[[MaybeEverAfter Maybe]]'']].
* In ''Manga/DGrayMan'', Allen has two main love interests in the story thus far: [[ActionGirl Lenalee Lee]] (Betty) and [[LittleMissBadass Road Kamelot]] (Veronica). Given that Lenalee is one of his closest friends and Road is a sadistic killer, not really much choice there. [[CelibateHero Allen also doesn't seem all that romantically interested in them, either.]]
%%* ''Manga/DeathNote'' has Misa as Betty and Takada as Veronica when it comes to Light. A genderswapped version in the ''Manga/DeathNote'' spin off novel ''Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases'' is Beyond Birthday as the Veronica and Raye Penber as the Betty to Naomi Misora's Archie.
* ''Manga/{{Devilman}}'': To Akira's Archie, Miki is his caring, gentle and more "normal" ChildhoodFriend Betty, while [[HoYay Ryo]] is a [[PrettyBoy pretty]], exotic foreigner with a more aggressive nature and much more obsessive with Akira. No one wins because [[spoiler: Miki ends up being killed, while Akira also dies in his last battle with Ryo - who was revealed to be Satan - and by Ryo's hands, no less, which leaves Ryo to suffer forever for killing his own love.]]
* Subverted in ''Manga/DoubleArts''. When "Betty" (Ellie) tentatively inquires about Kiri's feelings for the obvious "Veronica" candidate (Sui), he practically goes into a HeroicBSOD. Turns out they already tried dating. And she dumped him. Three times. So much for ''that'' LoveTriangle...
* ''Manga/ElfenLied'' gives Kouta (Archie) two conflicting and very different love interests: Lucy/Nyu, the superpowered mutant with an extreme case of SplitPersonality that makes her a poster girl for CuteAndPsycho (Veronica), and Yuka, Kouta's [[KissingCousins cousin]] who has had a crush on him since childhood and often plays TeamMom for the other residents at their house (Betty).
* ''Literature/TheFamiliarOfZero'' has the {{Tsundere}} noblewoman Louise facing off against the peasant [[{{Meido}} maid]] Siesta for the heart of Saito.
%%* ''Manga/TheFlowersOfEvil'' has Saeki (Betty) and Nakamura (Veronica), this being a very dark take on both.
* ''Manga/FoodWars'':
** [[ChasteHero While he doesn't think of them that way]], the protagonist Soma has the most ShipTease with Megumi Tadokoro and Erina Nakiri. Megumi, the Betty, is cute but has a slim build and is overall much plainer with a quiet, domestic and very supportive personality. On the other hand, Erina, the Veronica, has more of a sexy body type with considerable curves and blonde hair. As far as personality goes, she tends to be [[{{Tsundere}} more ambitious, aggressive and demanding, though secretly quite nice]]. For the most part, only Megumi is confirmed to have a crush on Soma, while Erina is more ambiguous but it's heavily hinted that Soma fits the type of man she'd like to be with.
** Soma actually has a second pair of Betty and Veronica in the form of Mayumi Kurase and Ikumi Mito. The former fits the Betty role to a T, being Soma's childhood friend, [[NiceGirl very nice]] [[ShrinkingViolet if a little too timid]], and physically very cute but petite. The latter obviously leans more into the Veronica role, as she became attracted to Soma after he beat her in a shokugeki (that and the fact he called her "cute"), [[TheLadette has a bolder and more aggressive personality]] [[MsFanservice and a curvaceous figure to go with it]]. When the two meet each other, [[ObliviousToLove Soma is completely clueless as to why they're having difficulties getting along]].
** After the first TimeSkip, Erina becomes the Archie with Soma and Asahi [[spoiler: Saiba]] as her respective Betty and Veronica. Asahi is a bad boy rogue chef [[AndNowYouMustMarryMe who is bent on getting Erina to marry him]], while Soma has become one of her biggest supporters and closest friends as her First Seat in the Elite Ten. [[spoiler:Soma "wins" by virtue of Asahi being revealed to be [[SurpriseIncest Erina's half-brother]], and while the epilogue doesn't show a RelationshipUpgrade between them, [[MaybeEverAfter their inner monologues imply they've developed feelings for each other]].]]
* ''Anime/{{Free}}'': For Haruka's stoic and quiet Archie, Makoto is his ChildhoodFriend who is very [[NiceGuy kind and soft]] that has been with him since they were babies and is still always by his side, while Rin is his HotBlooded [[TheRival rival]] whose relationship with him at the first season was pretty intense due to the guy having experienced [[BreakTheCutie bad stuffs]]. The [[ShipToShipCombat ship war]] between shipper of Haru/Makoto and Haru/Rin is very [[DieForOurShip heated]], to say the least. However, as of season 2, due to the introduction of Rin's own ChildhoodFriend Sousuke, the preferred ships have mostly become Haru/Makoto and Sousuke/Rin.
* ''Manga/FruitsBasket'': Yuki is the soft-spoken and gentle Betty, while Kyo is the [[FieryRedhead hot-blooded]] {{Tsundere}} to Tohru's AllLovingHeroine Archie. Later, Momiji also joins as a cheerful ThirdOptionLoveInterest who acts more like a Betty. [[spoiler: Kyo wins in the end, though, as Yuki realizes that he has been seeing her as [[TeamMom a mother]] [[ParentalSubstitute figure]] all along, while Momiji knows that Tohru has chosen Kyo and [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy wants her to be happy]].]]
* ''Literature/FullMetalPanic'' inverts this: Chidori is the Veronica despite being the OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent, while Tessa, who is a captain in a covert paramilitary organization and has command of a submarine and several hundred troops, Sousuke included, is the Betty personality-wise.
* Ryuuichi Kashima, the protagonist of ''Manga/GakuenBabysitters'' have two girls crushing over him: the shy and gentle Ushimaru (Betty) and the IceQueen Inomata (Veronica). However, due to the lack of focus on actual romance in the series, the LoveTriangle dynamics are rarely focused, and the two girls are frequently more intimate with each other than with their crush.
%%* ''Manga/{{Gantz}}'' has calm, reserved normal Tae as Betty to Reika's Veronica, [[spoiler: which it averts by Reika's cloning of Kei.]]
* ''Manga/GEGoodEnding'' has Shou (Betty) and Yuki (Veronica) for Seiji, the protagonist. One is bubbly, the other one is more serious. One comes from a mid-class family background, the other one from a high class family. One is blonde, one is black-haired.
%%* The ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' meta-series, being JustForFun/TropeOverdosed, has more than one of these:
%%** ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam'': Mirai (Archie), Bright Noah (Betty), Liutenant Sleggar (Veronica) and Cameron Bloom (ThirdOptionLoveInterest). [[spoiler: Sleggar dies few after he and Mirai share a kiss, Cameron is soon out of the picture until the ''Char's Counterattack'' movie, Mirai marries Bright.]]. Also Lalah Sune (a very... strange Archie), Amuro Ray (Betty) and Char Aznable (Veronica) [[spoiler: And then ''Lalah dies protecting Char from Amuro''.]]
%%** ''[[Anime/AfterWarGundamX Gundam X]]'': Garrod Ran (Archie), Tiffa Addil (Betty) and Ennil El (Veronica). [[spoiler: Tiffa already had the first round won since Garrod had a huge crush on her from the start, so she wins in the end too.]]
%%** ''[[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam G Gundam]]'': Domon Kasshu's Archie is at one point stuck between Rain Mikamura's Betty and Allenby Beardsley's Veronica. [[spoiler: As his ChildhoodFriend and partner, Rain is victorious.]]
%%** ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Gundam Seed]]'': Kira Yamato's Archie has to pick between Lacus Clyne's Betty and Flay Allster's Veronica.
%%** ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'': Louise Halevy (Archie), Saji Crossroads (Betty) and Andrei Smirnov (Veronica). [[spoiler: Louise and Saji are StarCrossedLovers and Andrei goes MurderTheHypotenuse almost at the end but is stopped by Saji's partner Setsuna, and in TheMovie he goes the HeroicSacrifice way.]]
%%** ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamAge Gundam AGE]]'': Flit Asuno (Archie), Yurin L'Ciel (Veronica), Emily Amonde (Betty) [[spoiler: Yurin dies horribly, so Emily "wins" by default. While being aware that Yurin is TheLostLenore, though.]] And later there's Romary (Archie), Asemu (Betty) and Zeheart (Veronica). Bonus for the HoYay between Asemu and Zeheart. [[spoiler: Romary is... very confused but ultimately chooses Asemu, since Zeheart is an AntiVillain.]]
%%* ''Anime/{{Hamtaro}}'' has a genderswapped example with Pashmina (Archie) as the love interest of both Dexter (Betty) and Howdy (Veronica).
%%* ''Manga/HaouAiren'': Kaafai (Betty) and Hakuron (Veronica), for Kurumi. [[spoiler: Until Kaafai goes {{Yandere}} too.. and kills Hakuron]]. There's also Kurumi (Betty) and Reilan (Veronica), for Hakuron. [[spoiler:Until Reilan deploys a ThanatosGambit.]]
* ''Manga/HekikaiNoAiON'':
** First, there's Yoshiyuki as ChildhoodFriend Betty and Seine as ActionGirl Veronica.
** Then played with; ShrinkingViolet but exotic mermaid and human but BrokenBird witch. Though Tatsuya shows more attraction to Seine, he still can leave [[spoiler:Sheila]] alone when she's in trouble.
* The ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'' anime has a twisted, 'sort of' affection triangle between Alucard, Integra Hellsing, and Seras Victoria that creates an animosity between the women. While Seras looks as the Veronica (being the one with sultry clothes and the newest addition to the Hellsing group) to Integra's Betty (long-standing bond with Alucard and with more tomboyish traits), personality and role wise could be switched: Integra's the Rich Veronica that has Alucard's affection while Reliable Betty Seras longs for it. [[WordOfGod Studio Gonzo]] claims that in the Anime, Alucard actually [[ReplacementGoldfish turned Seras because her eyes reminded him of Integra during her youth]], but he was mistaken. The manga averts this situation with an emphasis on a platonic bond between Alucard and Seras, but curiously adding LesYay subtext between Seras and Integra, and having Pip Bernadotte as Seras' LoveInterest.
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'', with its tons of characters, gets ''lots'' of LoveTriangle combinations set up in fanworks that deliberately invoke this dynamic. Even the most canon-supported ones have been played with by fans to ''extensive'' degrees:
** For the potential Austria-Hungary-Prussia triangle, fanworks will either depict it as Hungary having to choose between the [[NeatFreak straightlaced]], gentlemanly Austria and the [[WildChild free-spirited]], HotBlooded Prussia or Austria having to choose between the [[CuteBruiser tough-as-nails]] but ultimately [[BadassAdorable sweet and dependable]] Hungary and [[BloodKnight the much wilder and less predictable]] Prussia. In both cases, fanworks are about evenly split on whether the Betty or Veronica wins. [[OT3 And sometimes, they]] TakeAThirdOption. After [[BlackMagic Romania]] appeared, fandom is shaping him up as a potential ThirdOptionLoveInterest du to being TheRival to Hungary.
** Canon-wise, Japan has a choice between {{Sleepy|head}}, [[NiceGuy laidback]] KindheartedCatLover Greece and [[MaskOfPower masked]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold rough-talking]] BoisterousBruiser Turkey. However, unlike with the Austria-Hungary-Prussia triangle, virtually all fanworks featuring this triangle agree that the Veronica [[HopelessSuitor has no chance against the Betty]] - and, in fact, actually has a better chance of ''ending up with the Betty'' than with the Archie! All of which leads to the ''real'' Betty and Veronica dynamic at work in fandom being whether Greece should be paired with [[{{Moe}} cute]], [[InscrutableOriental emotionally reserved]], and [[HeIsNotMyBoyfriend romantically shy]] Japan who's already [[BirdsOfAFeather good friends with him]] or [[SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan manly]], [[IShallTauntYou openly critical]], and [[SitcomArchnemesis aggressive]] Turkey who passionately hates him.
** And then there's the ComedicSociopathy-filled Baltic-Slav [[AllLoveIsUnrequited Unrequited]] LoveTriangle, where Russia plays a [[TheFakeCutie rather]] [[PsychopathicManchild psychotic]] Archie who has the [[YamatoNadeshiko kind and gentle]] [[TheWoobie Lithuania]] as his Betty, whereas [[BrotherSisterIncest his sister]] [[ElegantGothicLolita Belarus]] is a {{Yandere}} Veronica, with [[{{Bishonen}} China]] ''and'' [[TeamMom Ukraine]] as potential {{Third Option Love Interest}}s (Russia ''has'' stalked him a couple of times, and Ukraine is the one Russia shows his [[PetTheDog dere]] side more often to...).
** And just in case your head isn't spinning enough yet, there are ''numerous'' {{fanon}} combinations of other characters with many of them bouncing back and forth between the Betty and Veronica roles depending on who their designated romantic rival is. To list all of them would take up half of this page, especially since this fandom is ''way'' more prone to {{OT3}}s than most other fandoms.
* ''Manga/HighschoolOfTheDead'' presents Rei and Saeko's ongoing LoveTriangle with Takashi as the LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine equivalent: Rei is the down-to-earth 'wholesome girl' and [[ChildhoodFriendRomance childhood friend]] of Takashi, who's plainly stated her feelings for him. By contrast, Saeko freely admits to preferring to be the seductress, so she uses her sex appeal instead. This is also reflected by the difference in how they dress. Rei's school uniform is essentially the same as it's always been with the addition of knee pads and elbow pads for protection. Saeko modified hers with lacey black [[ZettaiRyouiki thigh-high stockings]], stiletto-heeled boots, and a matching black miniskirt that has a split-seam so high, it flashes her panties when she walks. When Rei and the others see what she's wearing, Rei [[LampshadeHanging calls her out on it:]]
-->'''Rei: (incredulous)''' "What the heck is THAT!? Aren't you embarrassed showing off like that!? I can't believe [[{{stripperific}} you're walking around like that!!"]]
%%* Takemoto (Betty) and Morita (Veronica) both fall in love with Hagu in ''Manga/HoneyAndClover''. [[spoiler:Even though Morita wins Hagu's affections, neither of the guys end up with her.]]
%%* In ''Anime/ImGonnaBeAnAngel'' Noelle is Betty and Natsumi is Veronica for Yuusuke. Also, Muse is Betty and Silky is Veronica for Eros.
* ''Manga/InuYasha'':
** OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent Kagome is the Betty and DarkMagicalGirl Kikyo the Veronica. [[spoiler:Solved when Kikyo dies for a second time but now is able to go in peace, so Inuyasha finally lets go of his regrets and stays with Kagome.]]
** In an anime episode, Sango has Kuranosuke Takeda, the admiring nobleman who asks her to marry him, as the Betty against HandsomeLech Miroku as the Veronica. In this case, the deck is heavily stacked against Kuranosuke, since marrying him would also require Sango to give up her quest for {{Revenge}}; she chooses to continue the journey, Kuranosuke does not appear again, and [[spoiler:Sango and Miroku end up HappilyMarried in the DistantFinale]].
* ''Toys/{{Jewelpet}}'':
** In ''Anime/Jewelpet2009'', Rinko has to choose between her accessible neighbour Akira (Betty) and bad boy Andy (Veronica), [[spoiler:who's actually the BigBad in disguise]].
** In ''Anime/JewelpetSunshine'', Mikage is torn between the [[TheDitz simple]], HotBlooded Ruby (Betty) and the AlphaBitch Kanon (Veronica).
* The one-episode LoveTriangle from ''Anime/KaleidoStar'' had Sarah as Archie, Kalos as Betty, and Andy as Veronica. [[spoiler:Sarah chooses Kalos -- in fact, ''she had chosen him quite a while before'' and that's why she had stayed in the Stage in the first place. Andy never really stood a chance, [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy and he immediately acknowledges it]].]]
* ''Manga/KashimashiGirlMeetsGirl'' has a lesbian variation. The protagonist is a GenderBender who got turned into a girl by aliens, but still has two female love interests: the tomboyish {{Tsundere}} Tomari (Veronica) and the YamatoNadeshiko Yasuna (Betty).
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'': Kenichi is the Archie to Miu's Betty, who is a sweet-natured GirlNextDoor and TeamMom in the Ryozanpaku dojo, yet [[WhatIsThisFeeling she has trouble admitting her own feelings for him]] [[ClingyJealousGirl despite being quite worked up when she sees him with other girls]]. Meanwhile, Ma Renka fits the Veronica role, as she establishes herself as an aggressive {{Tsundere}} who does not think much of Kenichi at first, but she quickly falls for him upon seeing how nice and brave he is, and unlike Miu she's a lot more forward and makes her romantic intentions with him quite clear.
* ''Manga/KimagureOrangeRoad''. Kyosuke is torn between Hikaru (the ever-doting Betty) and Madoka (the WildChild Veronica). Both of them love him, with the added complication that Hikaru was Madoka's OnlyFriend. [[spoiler: Madoka is the one he chooses.]]
%%* ''Manga/KimiNiTodoke'' has two that overlaps, Sawako is Betty and Kurumi is Veronica for Kazehaya, who is the Betty and [[spoiler:Kento]] is Veronica for Sawako. Color inverted since Sawako and Kazehaya are dark-haired.
* In ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters: KYO'' manga (a Spinoff from the ''KOF'' games), there are several prospect love triangles like this:
** At first, Kyo Kusanagi is the Archie to Yuki's Betty and Athena Asamiya's Veronica. Since Yuki is already Kyo's girlfriend when Athena comes into Kyo's school to be closer to him and see how his powers are like, she "wins" this round.
** With Athena as Archie, then Kyo switches to the Veronica while Sie Kensou is the Betty. As said above Kyo stays with Yuki, but Athena never really "switches" to Kensou anyway.
** Later, due to a series of meddling and misunderstandings, ''Yuki'' becomes the Archie with Kyo as Veronica and Takaya Maeta as Betty. [[spoiler: Maeta ''does'' get a serious chance to get closer to Yuki and Kyo has other matters to attend... but ultimately he gets better, Yuki stays by his side, and Maeta [[IWantmyBelovedtoBeHappy relents]].]]
* ''Manga/{{Kodocha}}'':
** Sana ends up in a love triangle with Akito and Naozumi, which can be interpreted in two ways:
*** Akito is Sana's classmate who has a close (if complicated) friendship with her (Betty), while Naozumi is a super-popular celebrity who rarely hangs out with Sana (Veronica).
*** Naozumi is a NiceGuy who has a lot in common with Sana (Betty), Akito is an uncommunicative "bad boy" who has trouble expressing his feelings (Veronica).
** Akito's love triangle with Sana and Fuuka also has two interpretations:
*** Sana is his long-time crush and close friend who understands him the most (Betty) and Fuuka is the newcomer (Veronica).
*** Fuuka is a normal student who is open about her feelings for him (Betty), Sana is a popular celebrity who is often away for work, and is ObliviousToLove (Veronica).
%%* In ''Manga/LandOfTheBlindfolded'', Arou (Betty) and Namiki (Veronica) are rivals for Kanade's affections, even though Arou wins from Volume 2 onwards.
%%* In ''Literature/LoveChunibyoAndOtherDelusions'', there's Yuuta towards Rikka (Betty), and [[spoiler:the light novel-only Satone]] (Veronica).
* In ''Manga/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast2005'', Ghanti, who is a hot-blooded and dangerous bandit girl in a revealing outfit, is jealous of Link's feelings for Zelda, who is a kind, wise, and modestly dressed princess.
* ''Manga/LoveHina'' has a pretty basic version of this: {{Cloudcuckoolander}} Mutsumi (Betty) versus {{Tsundere}} Naru (Veronica). Keitaro, however, makes his preference the latter quite transparent halfway into the series, no matter if she's the little girl of the promise or not.
* ''Manga/LovePistols'' had one during the summer trip to the Madarame household. Norio becomes the Archie to a cold, aggressive and increasingly distant Kunimasa (Veronica) and a caring, sweeter and openly in love with him Hidekuni (Betty).
* ''Anime/{{Macross}}'' in all its incarnations is actually ''built around'' this:
** ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'' has IdolSinger Lynn Minmay as the Veronica and BridgeBunny Misa Hayase as the Betty. Minmay herself has a similar case, with military pilot Hikaru as the Betty and manager/martial artist Lynn Kaifunn as the Veronica.
** ''Anime/Macross7'' had a gender-reversed version of the trope, with dutiful military pilot Gamlin as the Betty, and HotBlooded rock musician Basara as the Veronica.
** As does ''Anime/MacrossPlus'', where brash and rebellious Isamu is the Veronica, and serious and caring Guld seems to be a Betty. And then it puts everything on its head in TheReveal, because [[spoiler:Guld, while normally a nice guy, occasionally has random psychotic moments, and once he remembers that [[AttemptedRape he attempted to rape Myung]] during one of those moments, it turns him into TheAtoner who gets his RedemptionEqualsDeath moment in the end]]; while [[spoiler:Isamu actually [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy wanted Myung to be happy]], and thus removed himself from the picture, becoming something of a DeathSeeker, but after Guld's RedemptionEqualsDeath he and Myung stay together.]].
%%** ''Anime/MacrossZero'' has Sara as the Veronica to her sister Mao's Betty.
%%** ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'' has Ranka as the Betty and Sheryl as the Veronica. In the second movie, ''The Wings of Goodbye: The End of the Triangle'', it's resolved. [[spoiler:Alto apologizes to Ranka for being unable to return her feelings and declares his love to Sheryl before going Missing In Action. WordOfGod confirmes Alto comes back, Sheryl wakes up and their relationship ensues]].
** ''Anime/MacrossDelta'' plays with this. Sweet-natured PluckyGirl Freyja Wion would ''at first'' seem like the Betty compared to older {{Tsundere}} Mirage Jenius, but the former is an IdolSinger with a fairly rambunctious personality, while the latter is a straight-laced military pilot.
%%* ''Manga/MagicKnightRayearth'' has a few possible instances of this trope, both male and female. Hikaru likes both Eagle Vision (Betty) and Lantis (Veronica). Umi is loved by Ascot (Betty), but she likes Clef as well (Veronica). And both Emeraude (Betty) and Alcyone (Veronica) are in love with Zagato- but he only loves Emeraude and dislikes Alcyone very much.
* In ''Manga/MaidSama'', Misaki is the Archie, with her {{childhood friend}} Hinata as the Betty and her mysterious, popular, wealthy love interest Takumi Usui as the Veronica. Interestingly Hinata is a brunette while Takumi is a blond.
* ''Manga/MaisonIkkoku'':
** There's a male version where Kyoko has to choose between the awkward, indecisive, but fundamentally kind-hearted Godai (Betty) and the suave, flashy Mitaka (Veronica).
** Godai himself encounters an interesting variation on this trope: although he has romantic options that play the Betty and Veronica options straight (his good-natured fellow student Kozue and his outspoken, sexually aggressive pupil Ibuki respectively), his true romantic interest, Kyoko, is a blend of the two types, as she is both a responsible, supportive, somewhat traditional young lady ''and'' an independently minded woman with a temper who is unafraid to criticize Godai or defy her parents when necessary.
* In ''Manga/{{MAR}}'', Snow and Dorothy are the Betty and Veronica respectively towards Ginta. In the manga, [[spoiler:nothing is really resolved and both stay behind in MÄR Heaven, although Ginta eventually hooking up with Snow's real-world counterpart Koyuki isn't out of the question]]. In the anime, [[spoiler:Ginta resolves things with Dorothy by explicitly not choosing her. Snow merges with Koyuki to become one whole person to be with him on Earth, and the ending heavily implies a mutual relationship occurs, so in this case, the Betty wins.]]
* ''Manga/MasamuneKunsRevenge'' has three examples that aren't quite what they seem:
** The kindhearted and seemingly bashful [[NiceGirl Neko]] (Betty) initially competes with the cynical and abrasive [[LovableAlphaBitch Aki]] (Veronica) over [[BrokenAce Masamune]] (Archie). Interestingly, both Aki and Neko have HiddenDepths that one could argue make [[InsecureLoveInterest Aki]] the Betty and [[ManipulativeBitch Neko]] the Veronica.
** Superficially, Aki serves as the Archie to Masamune's Betty and Kanetsugu's Veronica. However, it's all {{subverted|trope}} since Kanetsugu isn't really romantically interested in Aki, but still poses as Aki's fiancé to get a chance at [[GoldDigger using Aki's wealth to save the Gasou family from financial ruin]]. Meanwhile, Aki only hangs out with Kanetsugu because she believes that Kanetsugu is her childhood friend who disappeared eight years ago, Masamune, unaware that the ''real'' Masamune is the guy who has been trying to make her fall in love with his new slim self since before Kanetsugu showed up. [[spoiler:On top of that, Kanetsugu ''[[SweetPollyOliver is actually a woman]]'' and drops the facade of being Masamune after the real one exposes her disguise.]]
** In the last parts of the series, once Neko and Kanetsugu have both bowed out of their respective triangles [[spoiler:and Masamune and Aki start dating]], [[HyperCompetentSidekick Yoshino]] enters the equation as the last potential LoveInterest to Masamune aside from Aki herself. It's PlayedWith; Yoshino is much more humble and supportive than Aki, but she's also sarcastic and [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy pressures Masamune into being with Aki,]] whereas Aki has been [[DefrostingIceQueen nothing but sweet to him]] since [[spoiler:learning he's her true long-lost childhood crush]].
* ''Anime/MegaManNTWarrior'': Lan Hikari is the Archie to Maylu's Betty, who is a sweet GirlNextDoor who clearly has a crush on him. The Veronica role is filled by Princess Pride in Season 2, and by Jasmine in ''Stream'', both of whom develop crushes on Lan and thus become rivals to Maylu for his affection.
* In the manga ''Manga/{{Momokuri}}'', a gender-inverted version occurs with [[spoiler:Shouta]] as the "Betty" to [[spoiler:Rihito]]'s "Veronica"[[note]]not so erotic, fanservice-laden but still very rude and cold and possessing a sort of bad-boy feel[[/note]] for [[spoiler:Yuzuki]]'s "Archie. Both have loved her for years, and her own feelings remain extremely confused, with her asserting a deep love for [[spoiler:Rihito]] and a desire to always have him with her and unchanged, but it's also made clear that [[spoiler:Shouta]] is always the first one on her mind, and she can't even imagine him changing toward her or not being there at her side forever.
* In ''Manga/{{Nana}}'', rock star Takumi would probably count as a male version of Veronica for Hachiko while Nobu serves as a male Betty.
* In ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', there's a weird variation. Naruto, of course, is the Archie, who has a [[LovingAShadow one-sided shallow crush]] on Sakura (Veronica), who is a {{Tsundere}} towards him and [[SingleTargetSexuality has always been in love with Sasuke]]. Watching from afar is Hinata (Betty), who has admired Naruto since childhood and has been in love with him for years. The weirdness comes in when one brings up of social classes, where Hinata has the Veronica trait of being the heiress of the most illustrious clan in Konoha (probably the closest the village has to a princess barring Tsunade), while Naruto, for all of his childhood and most of Part I, was the village pariah -- socially speaking, a relationship between them would be unacceptable. This obstacle for any potential relationship between them was removed when Naruto became the village hero, and became gradually clear to the people of Konoha that he was the son of the Fourth Hokage. [[spoiler:The series ends with Naruto and Hinata as the OfficialCouple, while Sakura and Sasuke are the BetaCouple (since Sasuke reciprocated Sakura's feelings two years before [[Anime/TheLastNarutoTheMovie Naruto realizes and reciprocates Hinata's love for him]])]].
* In ''Manga/NeighborhoodStory'', one of the main characters, [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Yuusuke]], is involved in a LoveTriangle with wild and [[HeadTurningBeauty sexy]] MsFanservice Mariko and his 'GirlNextDoor'-ish ExtremeDoormat classmate, Ayumi. Since this is a [[Manga/{{Nana}} Yazawa]] [[Manga/ParadiseKiss Ai]] manga, things [[BettyAndVeronicaSwitch don't quite look as stereotypical as they can be described]]...
* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'':
** There's an interesting example where who is Betty and who is Veronica differs [[ValuesDissonance depending on the audience's culture]]: In Japan, [[ShyBlueHairedGirl Rei]] is seen as the Betty because of her [[NiceGirl gentle disposition]], [[ShrinkingViolet reserved nature]], and tendency to get horribly injured, whereas the [[FieryRedhead Fiery Redheaded]] [[GorgeousGaijin foreigner]] Asuka is the cultural Veronica because her forceful and aggressive personality is just so strange to the [[JapanesePoliteness generally reserved]] Japanese public. Contrast this with more demonstrative Western audiences, who see the more outgoing, [[WhatMeasureIsANonHuman more human]], more [[BadassAdorable badass]], and more [[CannotSpitItOut overtly in love]] Asuka as the familiar Betty, and the [[CreepyChild bizarre]], [[EmotionlessGirl cold]], and [[UncannyValleyGirl strangely unsettling]] Rei as the exotic Veronica.
*** In ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'', the situation with Rei and Asuka is a bit different. Even though Asuka's rough and {{Jerkass}} behaviors are [[AdaptationalNiceGuy toned down to make her more gentle]], Rei's YamatoNadeshiko traits and [[SugarAndIcePersonality sweetness]] are [[CharacterExaggeration cranked up]], so she's a full-on Betty to Asuka's Veronica.
** Then add in [[WhiteHairBlackHeart Kaworu]], a [[GayOption Gay]] ThirdOptionLoveInterest [[BreakoutCharacter so popular in fandom]] that he was made ''canon'' in almost all the [[AlternateContinuity alternate continuities]]. Kaworu has traits of both Betty and Veronica, depending on his anime or manga incarnations:
*** In the original anime, while he has the kindness of a Betty, he is still a villain threatening humanity. [[spoiler: Zig-zagged in that Kaworu asks Shinji to kill him so humanity can survive, so he's more Betty.]]
*** In the manga, due to having his [[FishOutOfWater naivety]] [[NoSocialSkills toward]] [[NoSenseOfPersonalSpace human culture]] played up, Kaworu comes off as an AdaptationalJerkass Veronica, who is surprisingly a lot more rude and inconsiderate than most of his incarnations. However, it's not out of actual malice, but rather due to his ''very severe'' lack of knowledge in humanity.
*** In ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'', Kaworu's mysteriousness is stressed upon to make us believe he's a Veronica. However, in his actual debut in 3.0, he's [[NiceGuy revealed to be a Betty]] who wholeheartedly supports Shinji without any hidden agenda, is pretty much the only one who is nice to him at that point [[spoiler: and even sacrifices himself to stop Shinji from triggerring Fourth Impact.]]
* In ''Manga/{{Nisekoi}}'', there's Kosaki, the gentle GirlNextDoor whose family owns a bakery, as the Betty and Chitoge, the aggressive {{Tsundere}} [[MafiaPrincess daughter of a mafia boss]], as the Veronica. In a twist, Raku is chasing after Kosaki, but he's forced to [[FakeRelationship pretend to be dating]] Chitoge to prevent their families from starting a gang war.
* Melfina from ''Manga/OutlawStar'' gets a male version of this with Gene (Betty) and Harry (Veronica). When the "safe" choice is a foul-mouthed BadassLongcoat, the "bad boy" is definitely going to [[StalkerWithACrush have some]] [[{{Yandere}} serious issues]].
* In ''Anime/PeachGirl'', Momo spent years with a crush on the chivalrous and polite Toji, until she finally gets him. They guy helping her out on the way is [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy Kairi]], a [[ChivalrousPervert lecherous]], school-skipping bad boy she discovers she now has feelings for. Throughout the series she bounces back and forth between them, until finally [[spoiler:she ends up with Kairi]].
* ''Anime/{{Penguindrum}}'''s Kanba Takakura is kind of an an Archie, with [[BrotherSisterIncest his little sister]] [[TheCutie Himari]] as the Betty and [[spoiler:Masako Natsume]] as the Veronica. [[spoiler: It turns out Himari is adopted while Masako is Kanba's ''twin'' sister. And at the end, Kanba goes the RedemptionEqualsDeath way for Himari.]]
* ''Literature/ThePetGirlOfSakurasou'': Sorata has his ordinary classmate and aspiring voice actress Nanami and the world-famous, extremely talented IdiotSavant artist Mashiro as his two love interests. Personality-wise, however, it can be debatable which is Betty and which is Veronica, since Nanami is a {{Tsundere}}, while Mashiro is an EmotionlessGirl with NoSocialSkills.
* In ''Manga/PokemonAdventures'', gentle [[TookALevelInBadass Yellow]] is the Betty and feisty [[FieryRedhead Misty]] is the Veronica to [[TheAce Red's]] Archie.
%%* ''Manga/{{Pretear}}'' seems to set this up between Himeno, Sasame and Hayate, especially in the manga. The anime is more... [[LoveDodecahedron complicated]].
* ''Anime/PrincessTutu'' plays with this trope in a way that approaches CyclicalTrope levels:
** There's Fakir (the {{Tsundere}} Bad Boy) and Mytho (the Prince) for Ahiru. [[spoiler:In the end, she doesn't end up with neither because Mytho chooses Rue as his bride and Ahiru turns back into a duck forever, although Fakir at least continues taking care of her.]]
** Ahiru is the good MagicalGirl Betty to DarkMagicalGirl Rue's Veronica, with both pining after Mytho. [[spoiler:Surprisingly, Rue's love turns out to be far more devoted and selfless, which ultimately allows her to save Mytho from his curse and he chooses to make her his princess, with Ahiru's blessing.]]
%%* In ''Manga/PsychicAcademy'', this is played quite obviously through the Betty-esque Orina (AKA Sara), Ai's childhood friend, and the Veronica-esque Mew.
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'':
** As shown in the image at the top of the page, Ranma is the Archie to the short-tempered yet good-hearted {{Tsundere}} Akane's Betty and the [[ShamelessFanserviceGirl seductive]] AnimeChineseGirl Shampoo's Veronica. Although this being an UnwantedHarem situation, it's not so much about Ranma being torn about which one to choose (though he is attracted to both girls, he feels much more attracted to [[NoGuyWantsToBeChased Akane]]), but torn because he's engaged against his will to both women (Akane being an ArrangedMarriage, Shampoo an AccidentalMarriage) and rejecting one in favor of the other [[PillarsOfMoralCharacter would bring lots of trouble]] for the ''three'' of them. This triangle also includes a ThirdOptionLoveInterest, in the form of [[ChildhoodFriendRomance childhood friend]] and {{Bifauxnen}}, Ukyo Kuonji who is ''also'' engaged to Ranma because of a deal her father made with his.
** With Akane as the center figure, the bumbling BruiserWithASoftCenter Ryoga can be considered the Betty to JerkWithAHeartOfGold Ranma's Veronica. Also, Ranma is the snarky yet ultimately well-intentioned Betty to Kuno's delirious, hammy Veronica.
** Parodied with Tatewaki Kuno who sees himself as caught between a LoveTriangle between him, Akane, and the Pigtailed Girl. Akane is Betty, the girl he's known longer and has always been close at hand. "The pigtailed girl"([[LovesMyAlterEgo female Ranma]]) is Veronica, a mysterious beauty who disappears and reappears like the wind. Of course, Kuno [[PrinceCharmingWannabe doesn't seem to get that neither of the two like him]]. An episode of the anime also had Kuno consider his [[VitriolicBestBuds vitriolic best bud]], Nabiki, as a ThirdOptionLoveInterest, ultimately leading to Kuno saying he'd MarryThemAll. Unsurprisingly, Kuno was turned into ATwinkleInTheSky after saying that.
* In ''Manga/{{Ratman}}'', Shuto's female admirers are both a mix of Betty And Veronica traits while still in stark contrast to one another. On one hand is Mirea Mizushima, his exotically gorgeous YamatoNadeshiko classmate whom he's known for some time, however her family are the ones who turned him into the AntiVillain [[VillainProtagonist Protagonist]], Ratman. On the other hand is Rio Kizaki, who better fits the "cute and spunky" type, but is also the wealthy and [[{{Tomboy}} tomboyish]] daughter of the Hero Association's president, and the two of them bond over their shared dream of being heroes.
%%* ''Anime/RomeoXJuliet'':
%%** Hermione is Betty while Juliet is Veronica (though Juliet herself can be pretty Betty-ish too when not fighting).
%%** Subverted with Romeo and Tybalt, as the latter ''seemed'' to be a potential Veronica but it didn't happen.
* ''Manga/RosarioPlusVampire'': Tsukune has [[FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire Outer Moka]] (Betty) and [[SuccubiAndIncubi Kurumu]] (Veronica). Complicating matters are other potential Veronicas or [[ThirdOptionLoveInterest Cheryls]]: [[AnIcePerson Mizore]], [[ChildProdigy Yukari]] and [[SplitPersonality Inner Moka]].
* Male example in ''Manga/TheRoseOfVersailles'': The commoner [[ChildhoodFriendRomance childhood friend]] André is Betty and the foreign nobleman Fersen is Veronica. At first, Oscar doesn't see André as a love interest and pines after Fersen who is single-mindedly devoted to UsefulNotes/MarieAntoinette. After Fersen rejects Oscar as a potential romantic partner, Oscar realizes that her feelings for Fersen were just infatuation and that she truly loves André.
* ''Anime/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi's torn between sweet boy-next-door Motoki and snarky SlapSlapKiss partner Mamoru. Mamoru wins.
** Later on, Mamoru becomes sort of the default Betty by being the stable boyfriend while Seiya is the Veronica for being a snarky, pop idol.
** The DumbBlonde Usagi herself is Betty to AloofDarkHairedGirl {{Tsundere}} Rei's Veronica for Mamoru's Archie, and they even look similar to the {{Trope Namer}}s. Usagi wins.
* An odd instance of this happens in ''Manga/SakendeYaruze'', where the Betty is a [[{{Seme}} disillusioned, embittered 35 year old man]] and the Veronica is a younger male [[TheVamp Vamp]].
* In ''Manga/SchoolRumble'', Harima initially has his sights set on [[TheDitz Tenma]] alone but it's clear from the start that he has no chance of winning her heart as she's already in love with [[TheQuietOne Karasuma]]. The two girls who do express interest in him are Tenma's sister [[YamatoNadeshiko Yakumo]] and local {{Ojou}} [[{{Tsundere}} Eri]] who fit the Betty and Veronica dynamic well.
* PlayedWith in ''Manga/SeraphOfTheEnd'': Yuu has Mikaela and Shinoa as potential love interests, but who is Betty and who is Veronica isn't very clear for a good part of the series. Shinoa is ultra-polite, but rather [[LittleMissSnarker snarky]] and tends to [[{{Troll}} pick on]] Yuu. Mikaela is Yuu's ChildhoodFriend, is utterly devoted to protecting him, and always has nothing but the best interests for him, but his transformation into a vampire followed by years of hardship made him incredibly cold, unemotional and almost uncaring to everyone except Yuu. [[spoiler:Later on, Yuu is all but stated to reciprocate Mikaela's feelings and rejects Shinoa when she confesses to him. As a result, Shinoa becomes so filled with jealousy and resentment that she turns into a {{Yandere}} who is willing to [[MurderTheHypotenuse kill Mikaela]] and force Yuu to be with her, firmly establishing her as the Veronica to Mikaela's Betty.]]
* ''Manga/TheSevenDeadlySins'': To Meliodas, Elizabeth is a royal Betty due to being a generally calm regular human while Diane is a common Veronica due to being a clingy easily jealous exotic giantess.
* In ''Literature/ShakuganNoShana'', Yuji has the sweet and ordinary schoolgirl Kazumi Yoshida as the Betty and the {{Tsundere}} mysterious monster fighter Shana as the Veronica.
* In ''Manga/SkipBeat'', Kyoko has Ren (Betty) and Shou (Veronica). Also played with in that while personality-wise they ''are'' that way with Ren as the DoggedNiceGuy and Shou as the {{Jerkass}} who breaks Kyoko's heart, appearance and background-wise, Shou is the Betty and Ren the Veronica: Shou is the childhood friend and guy next door, whereas Ren is TroubledButCute, TallDarkAndHandsome and has a MysteriousPast. Later on, Kyoko acquires a ThirdOptionLoveInterest in the form of [[StalkerWithACrush Reino]].
* ''Literature/StrawberryPanic'' has two of these lesbian triangles:
** Nagisa with [[FanOfUnderdog Tamao]] as the Betty and [[OneeSama Shizuma]] as the Veronica.
** Hikari with [[ChildhoodFriendRomance Yaya]] as the Betty and [[{{Bifauxnen}} Amane]] as the Veronica.
* In ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'', [[{{Ojou}} Ayeka]] is clearly the Betty (traditional, reserved) to [[TheVamp Ryoko's]] Veronica (sultry, unreserved). And then it's subverted because [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyLvAp70eLI some side materials]] reveal that [[CovertPervert Ayeka]], who's seen as kinda prudish in canon, actually has more knowledge of S&M than most Betties have...
* ''Manga/ToLoveRu'': The [[InnocentFanserviceGirl sexy]] MagicalGirlfriend Lala is the Veronica, while the sweet GirlNextDoor Haruna is the Betty, the twist being that Haruna is the one Rito chases (their [[CannotSpitItOut inability to confess to each other]] is a RunningGag after while). Although Lala does end up bringing the two closer together (Rito goes from hyperventilating in Haruna's vicinity to being able hang out with her in a large group of [[TrueCompanions friends]]). Eventually, however, other girls become attracted to Rito, making the LoveTriangle between him, Haruna and Lala morph into an UnwantedHarem and [[BalancedHarem pretty much all of them have balanced screentime]].
* ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'' has the cute [[ChildhoodFriendRomance childhood friend]] Shinobu as Betty and the [[CuteMonsterGirl hot]] {{Oni}} AlienPrincess Lum as Veronica, initially. Shinobu was meant to be the winner, but Lum's [[BreakoutCharacter unexpected popularity]] forced Creator/RumikoTakahashi to change the OfficialCouple and Shinobu soon lost any interest in Ataru.
* ''Manga/VampireKnight'': Yuuki has Kaname (the Prince) and [[MyHeroZero Zero]] (the Bad Boy). However, [[BettyAndVeronicaSwitch the roles could potentially be switched]]. Zero is her [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend "safe, comfortable friend"]], while Kaname is the exotic one that she believes she can't have.
* ''Anime/VirtuaFighter'' has a minor case of this early on. Akira is the Archie, with Pai being a short-tempered {{Tsundere}} who gets irritated often by his antics (plus she's mad that he stole her SacredFirstKiss and has had to rescue her), while Sarah is much sweeter and makes it evident that she has a crush on him (much to the irritation of Pai, as well as [[MySisterIsOffLimits her brother Jacky]]). [[spoiler:As the story advances, Pai and Akira's BelligerentSexualTension tones down, and the two seem to grow much closer, possibly helped by Sarah spending a large part of the story kidnapped and BrainwashedAndCrazy]].
* ''Anime/{{Voltron}}'' has a male version. Boy Scout Keith (Betty) and Evil Prince Lotor (Veronica) both love Princess Allura. But Allura only loves Keith- so this may actually be a subversion. Some fans try to pair up Allura with the rebellious Lance (Veronica)- but in the canon anime and other series they show absolutely no romantic interest whatsoever in each other.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'' had this early on, between siblings. It was between BrattyTeenageDaughter Maho, her gentle USefulNotes/{{transgender}} younger sister Shuuichi, and the boy who the former was attracted to who had accidentally fallen for he sister when she was dressed as a girl. Shuu shows no attraction to Riku and by one year in-series Riku and Maho are a couple. They stay a pretty happy couple past high school, though Riku occasionally blushes at Shuuichi.
* ''Manga/YourLieInApril'' has reliable childhood friend Tsubaki as Betty and the wild, mysterious, cheerful musician Kaori as Veronica for Kousei's Archie. At the end, [[spoiler:Kaori dies and while Tsubaki makes clear her intention to always be by Kousei's side, it's obvious he's not ready to settle things with her yet]].
* Gender-flipped in ''Manga/YoureMyPet''. Sumire, the tall, smart and successful businesswoman, made a rule that she would only date her equal. One day, she finds a down-on-his-luck dancer sleeping in a box and... takes him on as a pet. She names him Momo and they form a relaxed, if unusual relationship. Soon after this, Hasumi (Betty), her tall, dark and intelligent ''sempai'' from university appears. He's everything she's been hoping for, but when they start going out, she feels that she has to present her best side at all times, instead of the unconditional, doglike affection offered by Momo (Veronica). The dramatic tension between "I can be myself around him" and "He's everything I ever wanted" drives the plot.
* ''Franchise/YuGiOh'':
** In ''Anime/YuGiOh'' (particularly [[Manga/YuGiOh the manga]]), Téa Gardner/Anzu Mazaki is shown being torn over her feelings between shy CovertPervert Yugi (Betty) and his darker alter ego Atem (Veronica). The show ends with [[spoiler:nothing resolved though technically Yugi wins because Atem dies at the end]].
** Briefly pops up in the third season of ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' for Jaden: Alexis is Betty, as at this point she's been a good friend of his for months now, and [[GayOption Jesse]] is Veronica, as he's a mysterious foreigner with an "unusual" destiny. Then there comes [[ThirdOptionLoveInterest Yubel,]] who's mostly Veronica (being ''the villain''), but with streaks of Betty ([[{{Hermaphrodite}} they are]] Jaden's ForgottenChildhoodFriend) and ThirdOptionLoveInterest (the last one introduced) thrown in. [[spoiler:Yubel]] wins. [[note]]Interestingly, the aspect of Alexis being "Betty" is only noticeable to the audience, because in-universe, she is ''not'' even acknowledged by Yubel as a threat and Jaden never shows interest in her. Instead, they feel more threatened by ''Jesse'', seeing how he and Jaden acts like they're married. So, in this situation, Yubel is the evil villain StalkerWithACrush Veronica to Betty Jesse, as he is close to Jaden and is always willing to risk his life for him.[[/note]]
