The only ones he won't go nuts on are his brother Al (and even then Ed will give him a knock on the head and a retort of "Don't call me small.") and Izumi Curtis and Olivier Mira Armstrong (because they scare the hell out of him). Even Ed ''thinking to himself'' about being small will set him off and result in him fighting the urge to punch himself in the face. ''Brotherhood'' even adds a scene where Selim calls him short and ''immediately'' lampshades Ed's extreme reaction.

39	* A scene with Greed in the manga shows that calling Envy "ugly" is a great way to tick them off, and get them to turn into their true form to ''kill you''.
40	* Ling doesn't explode like most of the other characters here, but he will become ''furious'' at any suggestion that an authority figure's subjects can be treated as [[CannonFodder expendable]].
41	* In the first anime, mentioning [[spoiler:Hohenheim]] is a great way to have your face pounded in by Envy.
42	* Ed and Al share a minor (in Al's case, not so minor for quite a while) one that is labeled "Pointing out how GREAT it actually is being a soul trapped in a suit of armor". It led to one pretty not-so-nice brotherly fight.
43	* Do ''not'' bring up the human transmutation incident (a.k.a. the Elrics' attempt to bring back their mom that ended up putting both of them on the wrong end of EquivalentExchange) to either of the brothers, as it is about as CloseToHome as you can get. Even worse, Shou Tucker, the main bastard who brought it up in the series proper, did it just after revealing that he'd [[spoiler:fused his own daughter Nina with their dog Alexander]], a situation that would horrify and piss off any half-decent soul, in order to claim that [[NotSoDifferentRemark he and the brothers were the same]], leading to Ed delivering an absolutely furious beatdown on him.
44	* In a case of LikeFatherLikeSon, it's shown that, in his younger years, Hoenheim's reaction to being called dumb are very similar to Ed's reaction to being called short (read: yelling at whoever made the accusation).
45	* Lan Fan becomes furious whenever people insult her liege lord Ling Yao. During Ed's fight with her, he notices that Lan Fan gets sloppy when she's angry, and so [[CombatPragmatist takes advantage of this berserk button]] to even the odds against her.
