{{Batman Gambit}}s in FanWorks.
----
[[AC:{{Crossover}}s]]
* In the first part of ''FanFic/ABridgeOnceBroken'' [[TheChessmaster Loki]] makes a very, very convoluted, risky plan that basically rests on people ''thinking'' he's either a bad guy or insignificant. [[spoiler:Or, in the grand finale, dead.]]
* In the ''Fanfic/CalvinAtCamp'' episode "Jason Fox TheMusical," Eugene tricks the Eds into recruiting kids to help them with scams. Once there is no one to scam, he assumes that the kids will turn on each other in frustration.
* ''Fanfic/TheChaoticMasters'':
** After his initial WoundedGazelleGambit to make the Titans emphasize with and free him from [[SealedEvilInACan his prison]] fails, the Collector resorts to hitting Raven's BerserkButton until he provokes her into attacking his LivingShadow form, after luring her into a position where the attack would hit Starfire and spill her blood on his mirror to free him. Fortunately, Gogo intervenes and knocks the mirror out of the way in time.
** During Roulette's auction, Xanatos keeps making bids on artifacts he doesn't actually want, counting on the people who do to raise their bids even higher, draining their available funds so that they'll be less likely to bid on the items that he ''does'' want. Jade and Viper clue in on this, and do the same to ensure that Wong keeps getting outbid by everyone else whenever he tries to bid on anything.
* This is part of the key to [[MagnificentBastard Stephen Strange's]] mastery of the GambitPileUp in ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm.'' With all of the {{Manipulative Bastard}}s around, he can't possibly control them all-he just sets things up so that they will do what they want to do anyway...but their plans are always eventually incorporated into his own, as the villains end up getting HoistByTheirOwnPetard thanks to the heroes ''coincidentally'' discovering some piece of information or being in the right place at the right time. He can even work other {{Batman Gambit}}s into his ''own'' {{Batman Gambit}}s, such as when chapter 34 of the sequel reveals that [[spoiler:Alison Carter sent Fury and Coulson to investigate the Smallville meteor shower, knowing that they would find a good home for baby Kal-El]], an event which will play into Strange's overall plan for [[spoiler:Clark]].
* ''Fanfic/ChildrenOfAnElderGod'': [[EldritchAbomination Nylarathotep]] invaded Asuka's dreams and he [[spoiler:tried to make her believe that he was the true founder of her religion so that she despaired and joined him.]] It nearly worked, but a third party showed her that Nylarathotep lied.
* ''Fanfic/EquestriaGirlsAFairlyOddFriendship'': During the FinalBattle, [[spoiler:[[BigBadDuumvirate the Dazzlings]]]] have stolen Cosmo and Wanda's magic and fused into a {{Kaiju}}. To give Sunset (in her [[SuperMode Daydream Shimmer]] form) a chance to beat them, Timmy starts goading them into doing things that violate Da Rules, knowing that each violation will temporarily cancel out their ability to use the magic, giving Sunset openings to beat them down.
* In the Extra Stage of ''Fanfic/FantasyOfUtterRidiculousness'', [[TheSlacker Jamie]] of all people manages to pull one of these off. With Megas about to be destroyed by Yuuka, he makes casual conversation with her until she calls the mech "a pathetic excuse for a war machine". Then he just sits back and smiles knowingly as Yuuka's pressing of Coop's Berserk Button triggers a HeroicSecondWind, putting him back on the offensive and catching the youkai off guard.
* ''Fanfic/FateStarryNight'': Seeing that Illya is trying to kill Shirou at all costs, Ritsuka purposefully pisses Berserker off by using a Shadow Jason as a HumanShield, enraging the Greek hero so badly that he ignores Illya's orders for the sake of turning Ritsuka into a blood smear.
* ''Fanfic/JWITCHSeries'': In "Down to Earth", when Martin starts using the Earth Demon Chi to play real-life superhero, Miranda lures him out by pretending to be a DamselInDistress, allowing the other Knights of Vengeance to ambush him as he shows up to help her.
* In ''Fanfic/KyonBigDamnHero'', when Kyon, Koizumi, Yuki and Mikuru go to see the Student Council President:
-->'''Kyon:''' Haruhi's going to burst into the middle of the meeting and be really pissed off about not being involved.\
'''Koizumi:''' Ah... You're certain?\
'''Kyon:''' She absolutely will if you send a text to her just before we enter the Student Council room. That should give Kimidori-san enough time to state her goals and reasons, but not to actually do anything before Haruhi shows up.
* ''Fanfic/LelouchOfTheWingsOfRebellion'':
** [[Anime/CodeGeass Kallen]] complains that bringing Princess Euphemia to [[VideoGame/Persona5 a Palace]] with them is a bad idea because it will be dangerous for the person in question and a liability for the team, yet Lelouch insisted despite not really refuting her arguments. Lelouch fully expected that seeing the injustices committed by a crime lord like the Black King through his Palace would stir up Euphemia's sense of justice, and hopefully even incite her spirit of rebellion and awaken her to her Persona. [[XanatosGambit And even if the latter doesn't happen]], he still gets an ally outside the Metaverse who will be more committed than before to change the world for the better.
** How Shadow [[spoiler:Shirley]] gets their original to reject them. [[spoiler:The Shadow gives Shirley a dagger and goads her to kill Lelouch. To everyone else's surprise, Shirley instead suddenly turns and stabs her own Shadow without further hesitation. Despite her bleeding injury, the Shadow laughs madly, satisfied after proving her point about how [[{{Yandere}} Shirley is capable of killing anyone "who would harm her Lulu, even herself"]], as the Shadow's power skyrockets from such an strong rejection.]]
* In ''Fanfic/TheLoneTraveler'', the eponymous Traveler has encountered many versions of people—both from his own world and numerous other worlds—and learned how they will react. This lets him plan things to either aid or greatly hinder their local counterparts.
** In a few universes, the Traveler's job is to move a [[Literature/HarryPotter Slytherin]], sometimes the entire house, away from their ObviouslyEvil canon portrayal and into a more sensible outlook where BatmanGambit and XanatosGambit become their [[PlanetOfHats hat]].
* In ''Fanfic/OnTheRun'', Letty Ortiz (''Franchise/TheFastAndTheFurious'') is able to help rookie street racer Clark Kent (''Series/{{Smallville}}'') defeat her boyfriend/[[spoiler:husband]] Dom Toretto in a race by using her knowledge of Dom's strategies and weaknesses, advising Clark when to attack Dom and when he should hang back to avoid taking a beating himself.
* In ''Fanfic/{{Origins}}'', a ''Franchise/MassEffect''[=/=]''Franchise/StarWars''[[spoiler:[=/=]''[=Borderlands=]''[=/=]''[=Halo=]'']] MassiveMultiplayerCrossover, several of these happen, some smaller than others.
** Axton pretends to go along with Jackie's seduction...then uses her own belt (which she is taking off) to smack her and escape.
** Samantha Shepard [[ObfuscatingStupidity deliberately allows]] a suspicious asari aboard her ship to figure out what she's up to, then stop her.
** Jackie herself pulls one against Trans-Galactic Republic captain Samantha Long by creating a situation she knows Long will respond to, thus carrying Jackie to the place she needs to go.
* ''Fanfic/ShadowsOverMeridian'':
** The first part of Jade's plan for destroying the Guardians' lives on Earth is to have Cedric and Miranda nudge their family and friends who aren't in the know about their powers to become more suspicious of them simply by making them notice how secretive the girls have been acting, driving a wedge between the Guardians and their loved ones.
** When Frost is sent to assault Cavigor, he holds back his forces until Vathek's relief force shows up to protect the prison, then ambushes them from behind while they're still tired from the forced march they undertook to get there in time.
* ''Fanfic/ShinjiAndWarhammer40k'' is full of both [[BatmanGambit gambits]] and [[GambitRoulette roulettes]]. Made even better by the fact that neither Gendo ''or'' [[TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness SEELE]] are willing to admit the possibility that ''neither'' is manipulating Shinji. Let alone the fact that he's manipulating ''both them, and the Japanese government'' against each other.
* ''Fanfic/ThereWasOnceAnAvengerFromKrypton'': In Chapter 22 of ''To Rule Alone, To Build Together'', the ''[[WesternAnimation/MiraculousLadybug Miraculous team]]'' put together one of these to try and expose Hawk Moth's identity -- Chloe intentionally upsets Rose (with her permission, [[MemoryGambit though her memory of it is erased to sell the illusion]]) so that Hawk Moth will Akumatize her. [[spoiler:Juleka]] will then use the situation to see through his glamor with her TrueSight and learn who he is. And as a secondary goal, they believe this will also lure out the MysteriousWatcher who Chloe has realized is following her.
* In ''Fanfic/ThinkingInLittleGreenBoxes'' Harry concocts a couple of plans that just involve having Doctor Doom and [[ComicBook/ThePunisher the Punisher]] doing what they do naturally when given the incentive.
* In ''Fanfic/TokraApocalypse'', the SGC and the Hunters manage to trick Abaddon and Eva into fighting each other by playing on their shared arrogance.
* ''WebAnimation/TurnaboutStorm'':
** The whole story starts with [[VisualNovel/AceAttorney Phoenix]] accidentally getting [[TrappedInAnotherWorld summoned to Equestria]] by [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Twilight]] after several failed attempts at finding a lawyer to defend her friend. As the story progresses is revealed that [[spoiler:Phoenix was summoned ''intentionally'' by Twilight, following Princess Celestia's advice, who knows about the titular ace attorney and made her summon him in full confidence that, notwithstanding getting dragged into a completely alien world to him, he would never turn his back on an innocent being accused of a crime]].
** While cross examining Gilda, Phoenix catches wind of [[HairTriggerTemper her short temper]], and starts using it to get her to slip up in the witness stand. [[InvokedTrope He says that he learned this trick in lawyer school as a way to get information from liars]].
* In the second ''Fanfic/UltimateVideoRumble'', [[spoiler:Demitri's]] plot accurately counts on any villain, given a last-minute hint about the supercharging of Haohmaru's soul, hurriedly trying to capture him (despite not knowing exactly how to harness that power); any hero, given an even-''more''-last-minute hint about one of the villain groups, trying to stop them; and [[DealWithTheDevil the Dark Guy allying with the person]] who actually demonstrates he knows what's going on. Then all he has to do is let them trip over each other while pretending to be, at most, a flunkie, until [[spoiler:he and Morrigan can ambush and brainwash enough fighters]] in the confusion.
* Invoked by Crowley in ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9018850/1/When-Worlds-Collide When Worlds Collide]]''. The Winchesters can't get why demons are attacking the NCIS until they learn of [[PapaWolf Agent Gibbs]]'s previous handling of threats towards his team and realize Crowley intends to frame them for some agent's murder, which would lead Gibbs to slaughter them. The plan is ultimately foiled when the Winchesters warn NCIS but everyone acknowledge it ''would'' have likely worked.
* In ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer''/''ComicBook/{{Supergirl}}'' crossover ''Fanfic/TheVampireOfSteel'', Supergirl challenges [[BigBad Zol-Am]] to a personal duel according the laws of the Kryptonian army, knowing even though he's an evil bastard he'll not dare to turn it down because he still considers himself to be a soldier.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}}'']]
* In ''Fanfic/QueenOfDiamonds'', as in the original film, Aladdin defeats Jafar by playing on his ego and tricking him into wishing that he was a genie. However, in this case Aladdin was apparently planning to do that from the beginning, whereas in the original film he seemingly came up with this 'plan' on impulse.

[[AC:''Literature/{{Animorphs}}'']]
* In ''Fanfic/WhatTomorrowBrings'', when Visser Three and Jake come face-to-face for the first time since their memories of the original timeline have been restored, with Jake in control of a Pool Ship, Visser Three starts offering to kill only the Animorphs amd let their allies go free while Jake rejects any such offer. Marco guesses that the two will continue to debate the 'offer' until only Jake is 'obliged' to sacrifice himself, as both enemies know that is the only term Jake will accept.

[[AC:''Franchise/{{Arrowverse}}'']]
* In ''Fanfic/ForgingABetterFuture'', Oliver pulls a successful one on Malcolm, apprehending Daniel Brickwell, the one who truly murdered Malcolm's wife, knowing his enemy is vengeful enough to risk exposure just so he can have the pleasure of killing Brickwell himself. As Oliver planned, Malcolm takes the bait and tries to kill Brickwell before being repelled by Oliver and Sara, which succeeds in proving the existence of the Dark Archer to the FBI, limits Malcolm's movements even more, and lends credence to the existence of Tempest, which to date had been dismissed by most of the general population as a sign that the Arrow was mentally ill.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13266807/1/Ice-cold-deception Ice cold deception]]'', Thawne’s alliance with Nora is revealed to be intended to provoke the Barry of 2019 into visiting him in the future before his execution; where Thawne’s powers were suppressed by Cicada’s dagger in canon, here he was being kept immobilised by anti-meta tech, but he had an implant on his body that allowed him to absorb some of Barry’s energy during the confrontation and use it to disable the control collar.
* In ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/35046859 someone new?]]'', Frost basically does this to set Barry and Caitlin up on a date with each other after Iris has left Barry under unspecified circumstances. While Chester and Allegra arranged separate dates for Barry and Caitlin via dating apps, Frost created a fake profile for Barry's date and arranged for one of Chillblaine's friends to be a fake date for Caitlin, thus ensuring that both would meet at Jitters afterwards (as far as Barry knows, his date stood him up and left him waiting at Jitters while Caitlin left the club where she was to meet her date once he proved unpleasant and went to Jitters to calm down). When Chester asks why Frost didn't just work with him and Allegra to set Barry and Caitlin up directly, Frost explains that she knew the others couldn't keep a secret and Barry and Caitlin would just be awkward if they thought they'd been set up with each other, but by arranging their dates in venues where Barry and Caitlin would rendezvous at Jitter's out of habit, Frost had faith that they would come together on their own.
* ''[[Fanfic/ToHellAndBackArrowverse To Hell And Back]]'';
** [[spoiler:Talia]] manages to play both the Justice League and the League of Assassins expertly; [[spoiler:she sends an assassin after Iris, knowing the Justice League would figure out it was her and go to the League of Assassins for help, putting all of her targets in the same location so she can wipe them all out in one fell swoop]].
** As soon as [[spoiler:Barry]] escaped from Zoom's prison, he immediately called [[spoiler:Waller to put his father into protective custody and hired Christopher Chance to take his place, believing that Zoom would try to kill Henry next. He is 100% correct and the plan goes off without a hitch]].

[[AC:''Literature/BattleRoyale'']]
* ''Fanfic/SeventyTwoHours'' has [[AxCrazy Damien]] systematically annihilate the cheerleaders (the Brat Pack) by exploiting their mutual distrust for one another. By breaking into their compound and escaping unseen, he's easily able to cause the simmering tension in the group to boil over. Within a couple of hours, every one of them is dead, and they've even [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness disposed of his redundant lackey for him in the process]].

[[AC:''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes'']]
* Calvin uses one of these against Thunderstorm in ''Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesTheSeries''. [[spoiler:He acts bizarre, getting Thunderstorm to [[ItMakesSenseInContext let him ride his magic carpet]] [[Series/RedDwarf to the king of the potatoes.]][[note]]Not quite like that - he just had him say yes, and he took control from there.[[/note]] After this, he notes how he's insane and has the MTM blast him. He responds by destroying the MTM.]]
** Earlier, in "It Will Build Character", Dad gets Calvin to get in the canoe by hooking Hobbes on his fishing pole, knowing that he'd instantly go after him.
--->'''Calvin:''' [[LampshadeHanging Gotta say, that was pretty clever.]]

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/ChipNDaleRescueRangers'']]
* ''[[Fanfic/TheNowakverse Under the Bridge]]'' shows quite an elaborate plan to attack the Rescue Rangers with a submarine.
** Step 1: Sink a rodent-sized cruise ship with an artificial iceberg. Hardly anyone would suspect this to be an attack.
** Step 2: Wait until the Rangers arrive on the scene. They ''will'', also because they're the only small-animal rescue team nearby with aircraft capable of marine search-and-rescue missions. And nothing about this looks like a trap, especially if nobody tells them before they take off that the iceberg has appeared in front of the cruise ship out of seemingly thin air.
** Step 3: Once they've arrived, destroy their aircraft and capture them.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'']]
* In the ''Fanfic/FacingTheFutureSeries'', Clockwork, in his usual manner, pulls one of these which results in Sam becoming half ghost.

[[AC:''Manga/DeathNote'']]
* In ''Fanfic/ACharmedLife'' Light's final plan in his game with L hinges on the fact that he, the Chief's son, is well-liked and trusted by the police whereas L, an outsider who is poking into their affairs and casually disregards the feelings of his [[WeAREStrugglingTogether alleged allies]], is not.
* In ''Fanfic/DeathNoteIITheHiddenNote'', the final plan concocted by KJ (Which we [[UnspokenPlanGuarantee never hear all of]]) goes off without a hitch because of one of these.
* In ''Fanfic/FeverDreams'' Light tricks all the officers present at [[spoiler: Higuchi]]'s arrest into accepting and giving up ownership of [[ArtifactOfDoom the notebook]] in order to [[LaserGuidedAmnesia wipe their memories]] by having Rem throw the notebook at every cop, growling out "That's mine, give it back to me" and if "Give it back or IllKillYou" doesn't work [[SecretTestOfCharacter she should tell them they passed the test of bravery]] and that she had selected them to be the next Kira, and if they would just [[PaterFamilicide slaughter their families]] [[IfYoureSoEvilEatThisKitten and fifty additional innocent people then they could have the power of Kira.]]
* In ''Fanfic/KiraSweetheart'' [[DiscreetDiningDisposal Light plans on disposing of his cake]] by putting it front of [[GeniusSweetTooth L]] but to his genuine surprise [[SpannerInTheWorks his plan is foiled when L (who has been forcibly put on a diet) doesn't even touch it.]]
* In ''Fanfic/PointOfSuccession'', Light and [[OCStandIn Mr. Junko]] fake a scene where one of them pretends to be injured in order to confirm that [[ImpersonatingAnOfficer Matt isn't a real cop]] because when they shout for help [[WhatTheHellHero he doesn't even stop to look]].

[[AC:''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'']]
* Alphamon performs a direct one in ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7623289/1/ Transcendence: Digital Curse]]'' by simply assaulting an important city and making sure his target knows it.

[[AC:''Series/DoctorWho'']]
* Not part of an elaborate plan to defeat a villain, but in the fic "[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9363206/1/The-Other-Has-My-Heart The Other Has My Heart]]", after the Eleventh Doctor turns himself into a human to escape his latest enemies, he deliberately sets up his human identity with a life in 1940s New York so that he can have a final meeting with Amy and Rory, allowing the three to say goodbye even if he won't know the significance of it at the time.

[[AC:''Manga/DragonBall'']]
* ''[[IdiotHero Goku]]'' of all people does this [[spoiler:to the level of ''TheChessmaster'']] in ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'' during the fight against Cell. [[spoiler:Goku came to realize that he would one day die of old age, which would leave Earth unprotected, so he decided to use the whole Cell situation as a way to coax Gohan into becoming the new protector of Earth. To be sure Gohan would be strong enough to carry this burden, he needed Cell to pose a serious threat for his son to overcome, so he arranged for Vegeta and Trunks to fight Cell first, knowing that one (or both) of them would probably screw it up somehow, which would allow Cell the opportunity to achieve his perfect form. He also made Cell postpone his plan to kill everyone after defeating Vegeta, by issuing a challenge of his own to him prior. Goku knew that he himself wouldn't pass up on such a challenge, and neither would Cell, since Cell has a part of his personality embedded in him. He made a glaring miscalculation though; he had assumed Gohan would be happy for the chance to take up the mantle as Earth's protector, believing that his son enjoyed fighting just as much as himself. Gohan didn't, and he had completely overlooked that unlike pretty much everybody else]].

[[AC:''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'']]
* ''Fanfic/UsAndThem'': When Emerald WEAPON is approaching Junon, [[spoiler:Rufus leaks information to his father that it's on its last legs, knowing he won't be able to resist felling it himself and taking all the glory. Unfortunately for him, it's still got plenty of fight left in it and takes his chopper down, and himself shortly thereafter.]]

[[AC:''Series/{{Firefly}}'']]
* ''Fanfic/ForwardPeptuck'' has a couple of these, the first being one hatched by River and Jayne [[spoiler: while being held captive by Niska]], which allows them to [[spoiler: break free by convincing Niska to kill one of his goons and Jayne palming a weapon from his body.]] Later on, River uses one to convince the rest of the crew that she's dangerously unstable, so they leave her behind while going on a job, during which she is able to sneak away and do a job on the side.

[[AC:''Series/GameOfThrones''[=/=]''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'']]
* ''Fanfic/OfGoldAndIron'': Arya lets the Waif stab her, knowing she can't take the latter in a one-on-one fight, so that the Waif will be caught off-guard when [[spoiler:Tywin enters]] and Arya will get an opening to end her.
* ''Fanfic/PurpleDays'': It's revealed that Gerion Lannister pulled one when he disappeared looking for Brightroar. He absolutely wanted to get away from Tywin for good but knew not to underestimate his brother's intellect, so he claimed that he was going to look for Brightroar; knowing that Tywin's greed would compel him to let Gerion go through with this mission while his practicality would prompt him to write Gerion off as dead until he returned with the sword (a return which Gerion has no intention of making).

[[AC:''Franchise/HarryPotter'']]
* In ''Fanfic/DaphneGreengrassAndTheBoyWhoLived'', this happens twice:
** After one of Daphne's visions [[spoiler:stops Ron being poisoned on Valentine's Day, they determine how he might have been poisoned by working out what they would have done without the advance notice of Daphne's visions and thus determine that Slughorn had a poisoned bottle]].
** When [[spoiler:the group capture Bellatrix, since she won't respond to conventional interrogation, Harry taunts her by talking about Riddle's weakness and then testing her reaction when he emphasises the word "cup" (he was going to also use "crown" in a sentence, but decided that the diadem was still an uncertain choice for the unknown horcrux where the cup was a known horcrux and her reaction to the "cup" comment was enough).]]
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9454927/28/Order-of-the-Dragon Order of the Dragon]]'', Ron makes a plan which depends heavily on Percy's estrangement from his family and brown-nosing of Cornelius Fudge.

[[AC:''Franchise/HerculePoirot'']]
* In ''Fanfic/TheLondonSyndicate'', it turns out that [[spoiler:the titular rival gang operating right in Poirot's neighborhood is just a bunch of disguised members of the syndicate there to distract him from their real smuggling operations]].

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon'']]
* In the medieval AU ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12592118/1/The-Imposter The Imposter]]'', disgraced squire Hiccup manages to rescue Princess Astrid from Earl Alvin by disguising himself as a kitchen servant and taking Astrid her next meal; after her previous escape attempt was thwarted, the guards decide to take the finer food intended for her for themselves, with Hiccup anticipating this and drugging the food so that the guards will be too ill to stop the subsequent escape attempt when he returns with plainer food.

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'']]
* ''Fanfic/BecomingATrueInvader'': During the FinalBattle, [[BigBad the Employer]] manages to steal [[OriginalCharacter Daj's]] {{BFG}} and is aiming it at the heroes. Zim goads him into targeting him, which the Employer does... which triggers the SelfDestructMechanism that Zim had previously secretly installed in the gun [[CrazyPrepared just in case]] the [[BloodKnight quick-tempered]] Daj ever decided to shoot him. The resulting explosion fails to kill the Employer, but wounds him and takes him out of commission long enough for the heroes to slightly recover from the fighting.
* ''Fanfic/ForTheGloryOfIrk'': Vero tricks [[spoiler:Lard Nar]] into taking him to Earth by pretending that going there would be unbearable for him. As such, the wannabe rebel is all too happy to do so, as he thinks he's tormenting his "[[PlayAlongPrisoner captive]]".
* ''Fanfic/InvaderZimABadThingNeverEnds'':
** In Chapter 3, when trying to find the mystery beast that the Zoo Crimes Division is hunting for so Zim can use it for himself, the Announcer feeds the media the idea of a bogus big money reward for tips leading to its capture, with the tip line being routed to Zim's base. This allows the Computer to sort through the countless tips to find useful information, while the ZCD is tied up by all the people out looking for the creature to earn the reward.
** Chapter 4 reveals that Tak deliberately gets herself thrown into solitary confinement on Moo-Ping 10, so that she can take advantage of the lack of surveillance to dig her way out of the cell to a spot that enables her to retrieve [=MiMi=] and access a teleporter she can use to escape.
** The Minion Trio manage to steal back the Ceramic Clown Puppy in Chapter 5 with a multi-staged one of these: [[spoiler:they lure Dib to an abandoned building by using a light show to make him investigate what he thinks is Zim's latest scheme, then tar and feather him. While he limps home from this, Bob insults him along the way, until the Announcer holographically disguises himself as Gaz to meet him outside the house, "scare" Bob off, and give him a desperately-needed pep talk to gain his confidence, and then follows him inside past the deactivated security system so he can steal the Puppy before Dib realizes what's happened]].
** During the CourtroomEpisode in Chapter 11, Zim's (brainwashed) lawyer James Conroy riles [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Aldrich Coathanger]] up on the witness stand by mentioning past allegations against him, eventually causing him to blurt out a confession about being a [[spoiler: child murderer]]. This causes Aldrich to resort to [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney throwing money at the judge and jury to cover it up]], leading to a free-for-all over the cash that causes the whole trial to collapse, letting Zim off free from the charge of having stolen tech from Aldrich to begin with.
** During the fight in Chapter 13, when she's overpowered by the Minion Trio, Tak deliberately hits Skoodge's BerserkButton by mocking his one-sided friendship with Zim in order to make him attack her in a blind rage, which leaves him vulnerable to her skewering him with her PAK legs.
** Tak carries out a fairly simple one at the start of Chapter 15 — hearing that Aldrich is making a public announcement, she simply waits for Dib and Zim's teams to show up and confront him and each other, and while the three factions are fighting each other, she sends into the melee a DIR that's been modified to act as a bomb and blow them all up. And the only reason it fails is because Aldrich sees the DIR and loudly acknowledges it as a bomb, resulting in Minimoose tossing it safely away.
** In Chapter 17, Zim challenges Aldrich to a HumongousMecha fight, then leaks news of this, knowing that the Membranes and Tak won't be able to resist also showing up, and intending to deal with all his enemies at once. Later on in the same chapter, when Gaz starts losing to Aldrich, she provokes the Irkens into fighting him for her simply by suggesting whoever succeeds in doing so will by definition be proven superior to her as well; this buys her enough breathing room to get her second wind against him by the time he beats the Irkens.
** In Chapter 18, the Membranes tell Tak about Zim's plan with the {{BFG}} so that she and Lex will go after him, keeping all the Irkens busy while they infiltrate Aldrich's headquarters without distractions.
* ''Fanfic/{{Mad World|InvaderZim}}'': It's revealed in the final chapter that the entire story was a plot put into motion by [[spoiler:Miss Bitters]], for the purpose of permanently defeating [[EldritchAbomination The Thing in the Wall]].

[[AC:''WesternAnimation/JackieChanAdventures'']]
* ''Fanfic/QueenOfAllOni'':
** Uncle knows that Daolon Wong knows how to summon [[SealedEvilInACan Tarakudo]], who the heroes need to interrogate for information on [[VillainProtagonist Jade]], and also that he won't divulge it willingly. So, [[spoiler:with help from Captain Black, Uncle stages a jailbreak, convincing Wong that he's gone behind the backs of the other heroes, so Wong will help him conjure Tarakudo. When the ritual is successful, Wong predictably double crosses Uncle and tries to cut a [[DealWithTheDevil deal]] with Tarakudo -- at which point Tohru and the Section 13 agents waiting outside the shack they're in bust in, arresting Wong and leaving Uncle and Tohru to question Tarakudo]].
** In an example that crosses over with IndyPloy, due to coming up with it on the spot: when Jade attacks the shop in order to capture Tohru for Ikazuki, Uncle has him wait inside the shop's protective wards. In order to get him to come out, Jade has her ninja perform a sneak attack on Uncle, knowing Tohru will come to his aid, leaving himself to be captured.
** [[OperationBlank Operation Steel Lightning]] is basically one big one of these: [[spoiler:Jade plans on letting the newest mask "accidentally" end up on one of the good guys (it was meant to be Jackie, but ends up on Captain Black instead), forcing them to tap into its powers (which she accomplishes by tossing Black off a tower), hitching a ride into Section 13 in their shadow (with the mask's awakened powers hiding her presence from Uncle's protective wards), then using a spell to fully awaken the General inside and having them distract the agency while she breaks into the Vault and steals the other masks and the Talismans.]] And it almost goes off without a hitch, with only Agent Wisker's [[SpannerInTheWorks unforeseen interference]] preventing a victory. 149* ''Webcomic/DadVillainAU'':
** Out of [[EvilIsPetty sheer pettiness]], Gabriel Wished that the magical backlash from using the broken Peacock Pin would be redirected to Ladybug and her loved ones. The effectiveness of this revenge scheme hinges entirely upon Emelie's willingness to ''use'' the Miraculous, despite how it's clearly damaged; were Emelie more cautious or concerned about how using the Pin might impact ''Duusu'', let alone anyone else, then there'd be no magical backlash generated in the first place. So while Emelie is an UnwittingPawn, his plan only works because she's [[PrivilegeMakesYouEvil accustomed to getting her way]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe only cares about herself]].
** After determining that the former Hawkmoth is a member of Paris' rich and elite, Tom sets up a trap at a charity ball by anonymously commissioning his own bakery to craft a display of Miraculous-based treats. Part of Gabriel's Wish was that ''he'' would be the [[ExactWords only person]] to remember the original timeline, unwittingly permitting kwamis like Nooroo to retain their memories as well. Thus, Gabriel is the only attendee (aside from [[spoiler:sentimonsters like Adrien]]) to recognize the significance of how these particular treats are decorated. Gabriel's ''outrage'' at seeing the innocuous baked goods results in him SayingTooMuch -- or rather, just enough to confirm to Viceroy his target's identity.
* In ''Fanfic/HopToIt'', Rabbit's plan to both defeat Nanny Mite and draw out Chameleon, as summed up by the heroes to Chameleon after it succeeds:
-->'''Rabbit''': It’s not hard to figure out you monitor the Ladyblog to keep tabs on us. ''(pulls up a Ladyblog video of the fight at the library)'' You knew our weapons got taken over. And with no way for me to check Ladybug or Cat Noir's identities, I knew you’d try to make your move. So I purposely went to a public place by myself where you would be able to find me.\
'''Ladybug''': And remember this video? ''(plays another video of her talking to Alya, explaining that Chat Noir had used Cataclysm to help them escape, and that her plan to defeat Nanny Mite involved using her civilian identity)''\
'''Chat Noir''': And you thought disguising yourself as Ladybug was ''your'' idea.\
'''Ladybug''': After that, we only needed to get my yo-yo back and then trick Nanny Mite into capturing you, giving me the time I needed to use Lucky Charm.\
'''Chameleon''': ''(smirks)'' Ah, I see. So you used me as a distraction. Clever.
** However, at this point Rabbit realises that she doesn't have enough time on her Miraculous to actually apprehend him, and he knows that.
* In ''Fanfic/MiraculousTalesOfScarletBeetleAndIkatiBlack'', Adrien is given permission by his parents to have a birthday party, with plans to invite his classmates plus Mendeleiev's class sans [[AlphaBitch Chloé]]. So he deliberately leaves his phone with the class Chat about the party for her to find, and as he expected she fakes an email from Gabriel saying that the party is canceled and that all the students are plebians. Despite Adrien's protest that his father isn't like this, the email stirs up Nino's old frustration at authority figures, enough for Monarch to Akumatize him into the Bubbler.
* ''Fanfic/WeightOffYourShoulder'': While Gabriel Agreste is hosting a fashion parade, the new Ladybug [[WeInterruptThisProgram abruptly interrupts]] with what ''appears'' to be a live broadcast from Shadow Moth's secret base. 167* ''Fanfic/{{Null and Void|NevaraRaven}}'': Izuku advises Shinso to refer to Bakugo as "Kacchan", knowing that it would immediately get his attention and leave him open to be mind-controlled by his quirk.

It grants a false sense of security to the actual spy, and with Izuku as a potential scapegoat the League will avoid killing him until needed.
** Nezu is also does this to determine how Izuku's precognition quirk works. The principal invents several new words related to hero works that are inserted into the online dictionary, knowing that Izuku will use those words in his document of allowing students to use Support Gear during the Sports Festival. The words contain a series of codes that will be added with whatever revision Nezu would make in the future, meaning that Izuku was receiving memories of Nezu's revision and adding them to his first edition before turning it in to the principal.
* ''Fanfic/TheScorpionJar'': Izuku's plan for dealing with Katsuki is simple: let him come to him. While he knows Katsuki is too prideful and arrogant to consult him for test answers, he also can't ''stand'' the concept of his favorite punching bag gaining any kind of confidence. So once Katsuki hears rumors that Izuku's working as a KnowledgeBroker, it's only a matter of time before he goes after him, trying to threaten him back into submission. The whole scheme [[HoistByHisOwnPetard blows up in his face]] precisely ''because'' people don't react the way he anticipated; while Tensei spread the lie, the public reacted with disgust at a Pro Hero targeting a student. When the reason for the Royal Guards' protest is revealed, the public denounces IA for their actions, and IA responds by trying to make a deal with Gentle Step to stop the protests; as Mist Flight expected, she refuses to get involved. In retaliation, IA's commissioner orders her brought to court. 187** A benign –and funny- example in chapter 6: Asuka did not want Shinji and Rei walking together to headquarters, so she pretended passing out, hoping that Shinji stayed with her for a while and Rei left alone. She does this so he can put his InvincibleHero advantages to good use, and because she knows he can't resist a challenge. Although Todd doesn't take kindly to the list, he takes on the tasks anyway and realizes that Olive did it intentionally, leaving to get started on the tasks.
* In ''Fanfic/PatternsOfThePast'', the Patternista kidnaps Old Missie, Olesya's boss, and holds her for ransom at the White Dress Hop, a speakeasy in town. The reason she holds her there is because she's aware that Odd Squad agents, being children, don't go to speakeasies, whether on business or on their off time. In addition, once she traps most of the rescue team, she reveals that she planted listening devices all around Old Missie's office to eavesdrop on the team's plan to rescue their boss, meaning that she stayed one step ahead of them.

Once she's out of bullets, Cross takes her down.
** In Chapter 31, Soundbite tells everyone in earshot that a rat infestation is coming their way... causing Aisa to leap out of the barrel on the Merry she was stowing away in in fright.
** Chapter 37 has Cross needing to find a way to get Kaku and Kalifa to reveal themselves, so he convinces Franky and Iceburg that Robin has no desire to awaken the hidden weapons, the risk of which is the whole reason they hid the Pluton blueprints. This leads to Franky taking out the blueprints to burn them, causing the two [=CP9=] agents to make a grab for them. Cross then has Lassoo burn them, and taunts them, which results in them fully breaking cover.

** In Act III, Hokuto's plan to use Kuyou as a distraction while he steals the ArtifactOfDoom he needs for his plans from Yokai Academy's archives hinged solely on Kuyou's desire for revenge on Tsukune. It works like a charm.
** In Act III chapter 13, with the revelation that Tsukune's Holy Lock is cracking, Dark claims that he's only keeping Tsukune alive so that Kokoa can atone for her actions and regain her vampire pride, after which he'll kill him to prevent the ghoul from surfacing. However, as Mizore and Felucia explain, if Dark hadn't mentioned Kokoa's debt to Tsukune and act like it was still safe, the headmaster would have had Tsukune killed, knowing that Dark would be the first to kill Tsukune if the ghoul posed any threat; in doing so, Dark has bought the group time to find a way to repair the lock.

As far as he's concerned, the whole system is so corrupt it will inevitably collapse on its own even without the Sith having to pull any strings, and this way the majority of people will be disillusioned with the idea of the Republic, presumably curtailing anything like the Rebel Alliance from forming when Vader eventually comes to establish the Empire on ''his'' terms.

Kara essentially replied “I thought you wanted to kil me with your own hands. But I guess you're only a coward and pathetic copy of me. Oh, and have I mentioned we killed your lover?” It worked.
--->Kara stopped at the warp-gate and looked behind her. Satan Girl had stopped as well, less than a mile behind her. To her credit, she wasn't stupid. She knew that Supergirl was leading her on. And, having Kara's memories, she knew where she was headed.\
<That is the anti-matter universe,> sent Satan Girl.\
<Oh, very good,> mocked Kara, smiling like a teacher tutoring her most backward pupil. <Now, if you'll just join me here, I can finish you right off.>\
The villainess didn't budge. <It'll blow us both to bits if we touch any substance there without force-shields or matter-conversion,> she sent. <I can just wait you out. You'll come back, or you'll be atomized. Either way, I win.>\
<Oh, will you?>, asked Kara. <I thought for certain that you wanted to tear me apart with your own hands. Except it hasn't been that easy, has it? Maybe you're just not up to it, after all... since you're just a pretty pathetic copy of me.>\
Satan Girl's expression of hatred, which was about the only one she owned, intensified. <YOU...> she began, and that was all she could get out.\
<Just one more thing, darling,> sent Kara. <I didn't want to have to tell you this, but we killed Mordru. He's dead. Hope you didn't get attached to him too much.>\
At that, Supergirl knew she had succeeded. Probably a little more than she wanted.\
