* Vimes repeatedly outplanning and therefore curbstomping Stratford.
* The Colonel calling out his wife and the other magistrates for their actions. And then going to the pub despite her telling him "that drink didn't agree with him", quipping that he thinks it's time that he and drink set aside their differences. Pratchett is a master of extending a metaphor to awesome and hilarious ends.
* Feeney gets one in his first appearance when he comes to Ramkin Hall to arrest Vimes. When Vimes refuses to be arrested, Feeney tosses him on his arse with a martial arts throw taught to him by his grandmother, a native of Bhangbhangduc. [[MemeticBadass VIMES]].
* Most things Willikins does.
** In particular, he trails the carriage Stratford is in, delivers a blistering speech about how he's willing to murder the other man because he threatened the family he loves, how Vimes is so much better than him, and then finally giving him a sporting chance.
* Sybil. Just in general. She's been shown to be supportive, competent, shrewd, loving and deceptively cunning in previous books, but this time out, we get a very blatant example of her ability to move mountains with nothing but her address book.
* Any time Tears of the Mushroom plays her harp is this combined with a Tear Jerker.
* Just in terms of the characterization of A.E. Pessimal: "A man with the strength of a kitten and the heart of a lion"
* Jefferson knocks out one of his former captors with a single punch after making him think [[LetsFightLikeGentlemen they'll fight like gentlemen]], mirroring what Vimes did to ''him'' earlier in the book.
* Wee Mad Arthur doing the right thing, and doing it the right way. When he asked Vimes if he did what Vimes would do, Vimes admits that if it had been him there, he would not have shown near as much restraint. Let me repeat that: Vimes would have shown less restraint than a Nac Mac Feegle in the same situation. Even a cultured one like Wee Mad Arthur is considered something akin to a miniature natural disaster while fighting. That's... quite honestly rather terrifying.
** The lead up to Wee Mad Arthur's CurbStompBattle is also quite awesome, giving us an understated PreAsskickingOneLiner, possibly one of the best in the series.
--> ''*in response to being told that there isn't any law here*'' Guess again. ''[[HilarityEnsues *Violence Ensues*]]''
* Vimes implies that he believes Vetinari maneuvered Sybil to get him out to the countryside so that he could find out what Rust's son was up to. However, it's also heavily implied that even Vetinari was shocked by the end result. In other words, Vimes and Sybil ''outmaneuvered Vetinari.'' '''Without even intending to.'''
