* Frank Bryce, the only Muggle to mock Voldemort to his face. Although he did die and he didn't know who Voldemort was, the old man had nerves of steel befitting a UsefulNotes/WorldWarII veteran.
-->"Is that right? Lord, is it? Well, I don't think much of your manners, my Lord. Turn round and face me like a man, why don't you?"
* Harry convincing Vernon to let him go to the Quidditch World Cup by off-handedly mentioning Sirius.
* The Quidditch World Cup. Hogwarts's matches have always been SeriousBusiness, but this is "Quidditch as Harry had never seen it before" (and movie-viewers sadly would never get to).
** Previous books had commentator Lee Jordan give what feels like a play-by-play of each event, including actions by the players. The action in the World Cup Final is so fast that all the commentator Ludo Bagman is able to get out is the players' names.
** How on earth is the work of the Irish chasers not on this list? The three of them scored no fewer than 17 goals, giving their team a victory without having to catch the Snitch. That's both serious skill and great teamwork.
** Krum also deserves some credit for pulling off a Wronski Feint and getting Aidan Lynch to crash into the ground. Lynch is knocked silly after it happens the second time and Krum catches the Snitch. Sure, his team lost, but even Krum clearly saw that it was a lost cause.
* How does Moody detect intruders? He has exploding dustbinstrashcans, for you American types as an intruder alarm.
** As Crouch Jr. explained under Veritaserum, he and Wormtail didn't defeat Moody easily. He put up such a huge fight that the Ministry came to investigate. Crouch Jr. had to take the Potion and set off the dustbins to reassure the officials that nothing was wrong.
* Draco Malfoy, the amazing bouncing ferret.
* Harry is the only student in his class who could resist the Imperius Curse. Fake-Moody insists on putting him through the paces until he can throw it off. He later demonstrates it when Voldemort attempts to use the curse on him, much to his and the Death Eaters' shock.
* Cedric powered through potentially deadly burns to get the Golden Egg, when the dragon decided to burn him rather than a Labrador he transfigured. We don't see it, but he's chipper in the medic tent as Madam Pomfrey is fussing over him.
* Harry's work to master the Accio spell pays off when he uses it to summon the Firebolt, letting him use his Quidditch skills to face the dragon and get her egg. Even the judges weren't expecting it.
** Harry's flying skills were so good that even Krum, considered one of the best Quidditch Seekers, is impressed.
* Hermione has spent the whole book rolling her eyes at Krum coming to study in the library, refusing to be blinded by his star power because a GirlPosse follows him. Then she learns that he was drumming up the nerve to ask her out, precisely because she wasn't a dazzled fangirl or obsessed with him, and he liked her bookish nature. Hermione is so flattered that she agrees to go with him to the Yule Ball.
* Viktor Krum going for a swim in the lake, in the middle of winter, especially if he was figuring out the clue. Harry even wonders how he can handle the freezing lake, while Ron mentions there's also the Giant Squid.
* In the second task, Harry stubbornly refuses to leave other prisoners. He comes in last but is awarded second place for his "moral fibre", as the judges put it, and more importantly, wins respect from the other competitors. Ron says that Dumbledore would not have let anyone drown, but considering it's a deep lake with ice-cold water, Harry may have been ProperlyParanoid.
* Cedric also gets one for successfully doing a Bubblehead Charm, fighting off any sea creatures that want to drag him down, and rescuing Cho quickly.
* Krum apparently knows enough about Transfiguration to change his body into a shark-head with gills for swimming. While he needed help offscreen to undo it - perhaps because he couldn't do it without saying the incantations and sharks can't speak - the judges noted that it was a very complex Transfiguration.
* Barty Crouch Sr. walking from his home all the way to Hogwarts, while fighting indoctrination by the Imperius Curse cast by Voldemort himself the entire time. When Harry finds him, he's barely hanging on to his sanity, but the fact that he was able to do that speaks to some immense willpower. The best Harry, one of the very few people shown to be able to resist the Curse, was able to do was a few seconds, and Junior could only manage a few moments at a time. Only Junior having the Marauder's Map so he could ambush and kill him was able to stop him from informing Dumbledore.
* Harry and Cedric deciding that it didn't really matter which one of them won the tournament, instead just doing it for the honour of Hogwarts.
** Even better? If they had both walked out of the maze, it wouldn't have been seen as a joint win. Everyone would've gone on about famous Champion Harry Potter, with Cedric being a side note at best. Cedric is willingly giving up the kind of fame and glory Hufflepuff House hasn't had in decades, maybe centuries. Because it's the right thing to do.
* Dumbledore blasting through fake Moody's door just as the latter is about to kill Harry.
-->At that moment, Harry fully understood for the first time why people said Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort had ever feared. The look upon Dumbledore's face as he stared down at the unconscious form of Mad-Eye Moody was more terrible than Harry could have ever imagined. There was no benign smile upon Dumbledore's face, no twinkle in the eyes behind the spectacles. There was cold fury in every line of the ancient face; a sense of power radiated from Dumbledore as though he were giving off burning heat.
** Minerva and Snape are right behind him. Once Crouch Jr. is stunned, Minerva goes straight to Harry to make sure he is okay, as the Foe-Glass establishes that Snape is a foe to fake Moody.
* The fact that Dumbledore realised what was going on just from one simple clue: "The real Moody would not have removed you from my sight after what happened tonight. The moment he took you, I knew and I followed."
* Snape shoving his Dark Mark in Cornelius Fudge's face.
* Dumbledore gets quite a few in his argument with Cornelius Fudge. He's furious on learning that Fudge tampered with a witness and justifies that Crouch Jr. was a "deranged lunatic" who only believed he was working on Voldemort's orders. After rebutting all of Fudge's attempts to discredit Harry, he then calmly lays out what Fudge needs to do to stop Lord Voldemort.
-->Dumbledore: The first and most essential step is to remove Azkaban from the command of the Dementors.\
Fudge: Preposterous! Remove the Dementors! I'd be kicked out of office for suggesting it! Half of us only feel safe in our beds at night because we know the Dementors are standing guard at Azkaban!\
Dumbledore: The rest of us sleep less soundly in our beds, Cornelius, knowing that you have put Voldemort's most dangerous supporters in the care of creatures who will join him the instant he asks them! They will not remain loyal to you, Fudge! Voldemort can offer them much more scope for their powers and pleasures than you can! With the Dementors behind him, and his old supporters returned to him, you will be hard-pressed to stop him regaining the power he had thirteen years ago!\
Fudge: (stammers in outrage)\
Dumbledore: The second step you must take, and at once, is to send envoys to the giants. \
Fudge: Envoys to the giants? What madness is this?\
Dumbledore: Extend them the hand of friendship, now, before it is too late, or Voldemort will persuade them, as he did before, that he alone among wizards will give them their rights and their freedom!\
Fudge: You - you cannot be serious! (shakes his head) If the magical community got wind that I had approached the giants - people hate them, Dumbledore - end of my career --\
Dumbledore: You are blinded, by the love of the office you hold, Cornelius! You place too much importance, and you always have done, on the so-called purity of blood! You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be! Your Dementor has just destroyed the last remaining member of a pure-blood family as old as any, and see what that man chose to make of his life! I tell you now - take the steps I have suggested and you will be remembered, in office or out, as one of the bravest and greatest Ministers for Magic we have ever known. Fail to act and history will remember you as the man who stepped aside and allowed Voldemort a second chance to destroy the world we have tried to rebuild!
** Even better: As the later books show, Dumbledore is absolutely, 100% right!
* Dumbledore getting Snape and Sirius to shake hands.
* Hermione's revenge on Rita Skeeter. She captures Rita in beetle form, traps her in a jar, and tells her to retire for a year or the world will know her secret.
* When Rita Skeeter approaches Harry after the first Triwizard task, asking him for a quick word.
-->Harry: Yeah, you can have a word. Goodbye.
* Molly Weasley almost has a public confrontation with Amos Diggory over the way he's treating Harry.
* After Malfoy refuses to do Hagrid's assignment of observing the Skrewts after class, Hagrid finally gets sick of his attitude and asserts his authority:
-->Hagrid: Yeh'll do wha' yer told, or I'll be takin' a leaf outta Professor Moody's book. I hear yeh made a good ferret, Malfoy.
* Igor Karkaroff spits at Dumbledore's feet after a long tirade, accusing him of foul play. Hagrid immediately picks him up, slams him against a tree, and demands he apologize. The only reason Hagrid lets go is that Dumbledore orders him to.
* Harry vs Voldemort. The first actual confrontation between Voldemort and Harry. The Priori Incantatum says it all, but there's also something that we have to mention: before he and Cedric got the Triwizard Cup, they fought an Acromantula that injured Harry and broke his leg. Harry fought head-on against Voldemort despite having a broken leg and knowing that he would not come out victorious, managing to escape and return to Hogwarts alive.
** And the assist from the spirits who are conjured up during the clash and help Harry escape -- including the aforementioned Frank Bryce, who in death accepts what happened to him and wants to see the one responsible pay.
--->"He was a real wizard, then? Killed me, that one did...you fight him, boy."
*** Frank is equal parts awesome and heartwarming in this scene. In the first chapter, he decides to put aside his distrust of the police just because a boy he doesn't know is in danger. Here, Frank finally gets to see Harry and encourage him to fight back against the man who wanted to kill him.
* This is one of Professor [=McGonagall=]'s best books:
** She immediately saves Malfoy from Moody after he had been transformed into a ferret before telling off Moody for torturing a student and illegally using Transfiguration as a punishment.
** She trusts Harry enough to give him several notes to access the Restricted Section for the Second Task. This is after the first two books emphasised how hard it is to get such permission.
** Dumbledore assigns her to watch over a bound Crouch Jr. while the Minister comes to interrogate him. While she can't stop the Dementor he brought from administering the Kiss, she starts yelling at Fudge immediately for his stupidity and goes to find Dumbledore to tell him what happened. When Fudge tries to say that Crouch Jr. was a murdering lunatic, she shouts at him that Cedric Diggory's and Crouch Sr.'s deaths were not caused by a legally insane but rather cold-blooded killer.
* On the villains' side, Barty Crouch Jr. Not only did he manage to break free of the Imperius Curse cast on him by his father, but he nearly single-handily ensures the return of his master by impersonating Alastor Moody and rigging the Triwizard Tournament to make Harry enter and uses him to resurrect his master. It's safe to say that he would have been the perfect right-hand for Voldemort and that the reason he was given the Dementor's Kiss is that Voldemort could have won with him at his side again. No wonder that Voldemort praised him while disparaging Wormtail.
** The fact that he was capable of impersonating Moody to perfection for nearly a year, fooling even Dumbledore, until he finally does something that the true Moody would have never done.
** Credit where it's due. Crouch Jr. turned out to be a great Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher!
** Him being capable of covering his tracks and avoiding being caught at moments where his cover-up could have easily blown up, right after imprisoning the real Moody and starting to impersonate him minutes or seconds before Ministry officials arrive at Moody's home, or right after Harry saw his name on the Marauder Map and later when his father broke free of Voldemort's Imperius curse and came back to Hogwarts.
** Him getting Harry to participate and triumph in the tasks, cluing Harry into using his broom in the first task, having Neville find out about Gillyweed by giving him a botanist book mentioning the plant, having Dobby steal it for Harry for the second task, and making the Triwizard Cup a Portkey to bring Harry to Voldemort and Wormtail.
* The very end of the book gives us one last awesome moment. Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle have been eavesdropping on Harry, Ron, and Hermione wrapping up the events of the story while on the Hogwarts Express back to London. Malfoy starts gloating about Voldemort's return and how they're at the top of the Dark Lord's hit list when all three of them--plus Fred and George, who just walked in from "offscreen"--cast different, conflicting hexes at them and knock them out cold for the rest of the trip.

* The Dark Mark.
-->Barty Crouch Jr.: MORSMORDRE!
* Viktor Krum, as the champion with the most experience with reporters, telling Rita Skeeter to get out of the tent.
* Harry vs. the Hungarian Horntail.
* After Malfoy's been returned to human, he tries his usual "My Father will hear about this." Moody's response?
-->Moody: Is that a threat? IS THAT A THREAT?! I COULD TELL YOU STORIES ABOUT YOUR FATHER THAT WOULD CURL EVEN YOUR GREASY HAIR, BOY! IT DOESN'T END HERE!
* Snape to Karkaroff:
-->Snape: I have nothing to be scared of, Igor. Can you say the same?
* Cedric's last moments. He tried to defend an incapacitated Harry and stand up to Wormtail before he is killed.
* When Harry steps forward from behind the headstone to face Voldemort. Daniel Radcliffe captures Harry's determined desperation perfectly, as it is the epitome of "No, I'm not hiding anymore. If I'm gonna die, then I'm gonna die facing this murderer".
-->Voldemort: Don't you turn your back on me, Harry Potter! I want you to look at me when I kill you! I want to see the light leave your eyes!\
Harry: (visibly steels up his courage, gets up, and steps forward to face Voldemort) Have it your way. EXPELLIARMUS!\
