* The opening sequence. The cuts between Tidus playing blitzball, Auron stepping into the scene and Sin emerging, followed by the attack, all [[AutobotsRockOut set to the banging "Otherworld."]]
** One of the best hooks ever: "We called it 'Sin.'" Four cryptic words drawing the player into the story by implying a wealth of questions. Who's "we"? Why did they name it for the Judeo-Christian concept of moral transgression? The verb is in the past tense; ''what happened?''
** [[RewatchBonus Complete the game once and start a new one]]. When you again see Auron looking at Sin's gradual approach and saying "You are sure?", you'll get goosebumps when you realise that Auron was talking to Sin/Jecht! Even better, pay close attention. Auron seems to get an answer to his question. Auron can ''understand'' Sin/Jecht.
** Auron has tremendous CMOA appeal, but no other moment defines his character better than him standing stock-still in an arena where a group of monsters are attacking while a panicked crowd runs past him, smirking as a huge dragon-like fiend roars at him, then killing it with one slash after the FMV ends. Just [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6C0kcSHdiA watch it]]. Keep in mind, this was his [[EstablishingCharacterMoment introduction]] to the party, and he doesn't disappoint the rest of the way.
* The scene where Yuna, after a lifetime of preparation for becoming a summoner and defeating Sin, and having undertaken her pilgrimage--ready to die to give the people of Spira a fleeting relief from sorrow--finds out the truth about the Final Summoning used against Sin in the past. She promptly decides, ''ScrewDestiny, we're going to end the ViciousCycle permanently, not just start it over''. The rest of the party pretty much follows suit, even former Yevon devotee Wakka. That whole scene is a gigantic Crowning Moment for the whole gang, really. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YSf43SH17k Check it out.]]
-->'''Yunalesca:''' Now choose. Who will be your Fayth? Who will be the one to renew Spira's hope?\
'''Yuna:''' [[CuttingTheKnot No one]]. I would have gladly died. I live for the people of Spira, and would have gladly died for them. But no more! The Final Summoning...is a false tradition that should be thrown away.\
'''Yunalesca:''' No. It is our only hope. Your father sacrificed himself to give that hope to the people. So they would forget sorrow.\
'''Yuna:''' Wrong. My father... My father wanted...to make Spira's sorrow go away. Not just cover it up with lies!\
'''Yunalesca:''' Sorrow cannot be abolished. It is meaningless to try.\
'''Yuna:''' My father...I loved him. So I...I will live with my sorrow, I will live my own life! I will defeat sorrow, in his place. I will stand my ground and be strong. I don't know when it'll be, but someday, I will conquer it. And I will do it without...false hope.
** And then there's Auron's rejoinder to Yunalesca's BreakingSpeech:
--->'''Auron:''' ''[to the party] Now!'' This is it! Now is the time to choose! ''Die'' and be free of pain or ''live'' and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
** Wakka also nails it with this quote from the same battle:
--->"Hah! I'd never forgive myself -- no way! Not if I ran away now. ''[[DoNotGoGentle Even in death, ya?!]]''"
* When the party [[SpeakNowOrForeverHoldYourPeace interrupts the marriage]] between Seymour and Yuna... ''[[GunshipRescue with an airship]]''...which is currently going down in smoke. Not to mention the [[GrindBoots cable-surfing.]] Or the HighAltitudeBattle with a giant guardian dragon prior? Doubles up with SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic. Now ''that'' is one hell of a way to crash a wedding.
** The wedding is [[ShotgunWedding surrounded on all sides by riflemen and YAT-99 artillery machina]]. Maester Kinoc then sees the pyreflies descending from the sky and realizes what that means. He immediately calls up ''[[GonnaNeedMoreX more]]'' guards and artillery machina.
** The ''Fahrenheit'' flying up into the sun before plunging through the clouds and into a storm of AA gunfire from the guards and YAT-99 machina before circling the palace and firing anchors at it. Cue Yuna's guardians grinding and cartwheeling down the anchor cables like Sonic the Hedgehog (!!). Realistic? Nah. Awesome? [[RuleOfCool Hell yeah!]]
** How about Yuna ''jumping off the chapel'' and [[PrisonerOfZendaExit summoning Valefor in midair?]] A subtle moment is when, before Yuna jumps, Seymour delivers his empty threat: "If you fall, you'll die." Yuna simply wipes her mouth with her arm, unfazed -- as if to say his forceful kiss didn't break her.
** The sheer certainty and resolve in her voice as she says this line is enough to make you actually believe it.
--->'''Yuna:''' Don't worry. I can fly.
* Lulu's reaction if Tidus selects "You're more my type, Lulu."
-->'''Lulu:''' Interesting... I suppose I could consider adding you to my list. I wish you good luck, little boy. [[FemmeFatale You're going to need it]].
** Lulu's line the first time she casts Flare.
--->'''Lulu:''' KNOW PAIN!
*** Even better if you manage to get her Ultima, where she repeats her Flare line... followed by a spine-chilling:
---->'''Lulu:''' ...but not for long.
** Though it barely has much use in-game, her line as she casts Death is also awesomely chilling.
--->'''Lulu:''' Nice knowing you.
** Another one from Lulu, just before the party jumps onto Sin's hide: "A day with you is never dull!" -- followed by her diving off the front of the airship without hesitation.
* Operation Mi'ihen is a CMOA for Sin, in a warped way: It's the scene which showcases best just how powerful this millennia-old SpaceWhale is, and the sheer magnitude of what you're up against. It also brings us the only battle where you get to control Seymour (à la [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Sephiroth]] on Mt. Nibel, [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Edea]] at the Great Salt Lake, and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX Beatrix]] in Alexandria Disc 3) and witness how strong he is for yourself. And if you're patient enough, you can perform his Overdrive attack!
* Seymour's introduction in Luca. In the middle of a stadium being swarmed by fiends, Seymour calmly walks onto the dais, makes the Yevon prayer, and summons Anima...who promptly ''[[RankScalesWithAsskicking slaughters]]'' all of the fiends in less than a minute, all without harming a single person, as Seymour hams it up by posing like Christ. (We later learn that Seymour and his Guado lackies [[VillainWithGoodPublicity were responsible for the fiends appearing in the arena in the first place.]])
** He gets another one when you fight him for the first time at Macalania. He cements himself as a SmugSnake if you choose to have Tidus "Talk" to him:
--->'''Tidus''': I knew you were bad news the first time we met!\
'''Seymour:''' Oh, my sincerest apologies!\
'''Tidus''': '''[[SayMyName SEEEYMOOOUR!!]]'''
** Yuna gets one when the gang confronts Seymour in Macalania Temple, showing off her LittleMissBadass side:
--->'''Yuna:''' Maester Seymour! I trust my guardians with my life, [[TrueCompanions but they are also my friends!]] I will not stand by and watch them be hurt! '''I will fight you too!'''
** YMMV, but when Seymour changes into Seymour Flux on Mount Gagazet, his speech to Kimahri and his transformation changes him from a SoftSpokenSadist to a suitably-[[EvilIsHammy hammy]] ''FF'' villain. Not to mention actually defeating him is a CMOA for Tidus/the player.
--->'''Tidus''': ''[gasping for air as pyreflies flee back into the clouds]'' And '''stay''' up there!
** Oops, you were going to use an aeon on Seymour Natus or Seymour Flux? Too bad. The way he taunts you before busting out his aeon-exclusive OneHitKill is what sells it:
---> '''Seymour:''' [[PreMortemOneLiner DEATH AWAITS YOU]].
** The final battle with Seymour wasn't awesome enough, you say? How about using his own aeon against him? It even cues special dialogue from Seymour when Anima is summoned. Further, defeating him with the aeon created from his mother's Fayth, allowing her to atone for setting him on the wrong path, summoned by the woman Seymour's been obsessed with adds a layer of poetic irony/justice to this creep's defeat. Using Oblivion to strike the final blow will only make it that much sweeter. (Seymour is no slouch when he sees what he's up against, though. He knows what it can do first hand and he is generally unfazed.)
---> '''Seymour''': ''[[EtTuBrute You]]'' would oppose me as well? So be it!
* Kimahri Ronso, taking on Biran ''and'' Yenke solo, and winning. Biran being the Ronso who, apart from towering over him, is the reason he's hornless. Imagine the pride he hides after the fact. Kimahri's honor is finally restored after ten long years. The lead-up to it is also badass.
-->'''Kimahri''': Then I must prove my strength! / This time, I win, I ''will'' win.
** This battle is designed to be challenging no matter what Kimahri's stats are, as Biran and Yenke's stats [[LevelScaling scale]] to his.
** Kimahri stabbing Seymour in Bevelle. While it does nothing to him since he's an Unsent, it's still badass and well-deserved.
* Here's one for the player: Obtaining the Mark of Conquest. It's a key item you get for defeating Nemesis in the Monster Arena. A BraggingRightsReward, to be sure, but for all that effort, you really do deserve to get a little something out of it.
** Really, beating most Creations in the Monster Arena counts. You take on a hideously-overpowered enemy with far more HP than both forms of the FinalBoss combined and has any number of gimmicks such as [[TheComputerIsACheatingBastard super speed, 100%-chance immunity-proof status effects, buff-cancelling counterattacks, and six-digit health regeneration]].
** The death animations as those Dark Aeons fall. You've seen them lots of times with your aeons, most likely throughout your grinding efforts. But they probably never made you feel this triumphant. Just to pick one, the sight of Dark Bahamut falling to its knees in front of your party is not a sight soon forgotten.
* Yuna gets a subtle one when Dona mocks her for having so many guardians, and brags that she requires only one. Yuna calmly responds that she only has as many guardians as there are people she can trust with her life. When you later realize this is considered the common definition of a guardian in Spira (Seymour's talk about "The Code of the Guardian", for example), then Dona having only one becomes something she shouldn't be bragging about: Given her abrasive way of dealing with others, she's probably alienated so many people that she only has one person left she can trust. In other words, not only did Yuna calmly counter Dona's insult, she [[StealthInsult threw it back at Dona without her realizing.]]
* In the first voice acting venture in ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' history, the production team could have easily given Tidus a rigid name and made life easier for themselves. Not only did they let you name him, but they wrote the script in such a way that the gameplay doesn't suffer for it. They had to bend over backwards and push HeyYou to its limits, but they did it.
** Tidus in the later half of the game. He finds out that he's just a dream of the Fayth, and if Yu Yevon (the entity which keeps Sin alive) is destroyed, the dream will end and Tidus will effectively die. Tidus accepts this without hesitation and goes ahead with his plan to destroy Yu Yevon. Right before the climax, he tells the party that he'll disappear when the final blow lands, and says, "I know it's selfish...but this is ''my'' story!", and proceeds to trash Yu Yevon.
* The party and the airship sending Sin crashing down in Bevelle. Everyone on the surface is in awe at the sight.
** The last sequence of fights against Sin. This massive creature which has stood undefeated for a thousand years, barring an encounter with a Final Aeon...and you beat it ''in hand-to-hand combat?'' During the first three phases (both "fins" and the "core"), rather than the usual boss theme ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLAfulP8fRw "Enemy Attack"]]), the game instead plays [[https://youtu.be/LNU2GIkndag "Assault"]], as if to say, ''Sin's been wreaking death and destruction for a thousand years and it's time to'' '''finish it.'''
** Even more so when you fight Jecht, Braska's Final Aeon. If this could beat the undefeatable Sin, the fact that you kill this thing makes you more badass than anything else in Spira.
* Minor example: Seeing the crowd chant "Wakka!" in the blitzball game.
** Managing to beat the Lucas Goers and win the Championship for the Aurochs. Tidus took the worst blitzball team in the league and whipped them into shape in record time, even beating the equivalent of the world champions. Doubly so if the player pulls it off ''without'' relying on the Jecht Shot and/or Wakka ends up being the one to score the winning goal.
*** Learning the Jecht Shot is one for both Tidus and the player.
---> '''Tidus''': The best, huh? Yeah right!
* From his first line, Yojimbo cements himself as a badass in everything he does.
--> '''Fayth:''' [[BadassBoast I am the blade of vengeance. They dare only whisper my name: Yojimbo.]]
** Getting Yojimbo to pull off Zanmato. The mechanics for making it happen are [[GuideDangIt rather convoluted]], and for the most part it's AwesomeButImpractical considering there are simpler and less-costly ways to grind enemies into a fine dust, but if you can trigger it, not only is it a ''[[AlwaysAccurateAttack guaranteed]]'' OneHitKill to all enemies in battle, piercing even ContractualBossImmunity, it ''[[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe slices them in half]]!''
** Zanmato is so powerful it will work on every enemy in the game, the only minor exceptions being underwater enemies (since Yuna can't fight underwater to summon Yijimbo), and using it on a multi-phase boss will result in it moving to the next phase since it only kills the current phase. Otherwise yes, even the super powerful {{Superboss}} of doom can be killed this way. Yes this applies to the hardest {{Superboss}} in the game.
* Completing the Catcher Chocobo challenge. Aside from finally being able to complete Tidus's Celestial Weapon afterward, try running the race again. If you beat her in the race, she repeats her standard line, "Don't worry. Someday you'll hold the record!" but with one additional sentence: "Oh wait, you already do." There's just something satisfying about the game acknowledging all you've been through to get it.
* Grinding like hell until you can have Lulu's little Onion Knight bash all that stands in its tiny little way for 99999 damage. Or even the soft metal-clinking sound Yuna's Nirvana makes as it deals the same damage. Or a sweet form of catharsis: having Auron with Masamune use Shooting Star on an ambushing Great Malboro and watching it fly off the walls of Omega Ruins.
* When leaving Home, everybody evacuates onto the ''Fahrenheit''. But it isn't shown ''what'' they are entering until Cid says that they'll be looking for Yuna "[[WhamLine Using this airship!]]". The ''Fahrenheit'' is then revealed in glorious [=FMV=], rising from the hanger, obliterating Home and all the Guado invaders, and [[OutrunTheFireball outracing the explosion]].
* Isaaru and Dona get one when Tidus finds out the truth, pointing out that they have freely chosen their selfless path, and it is ''their'' decision to make.
->'''Rikku''': Summoners shouldn't have to sacrifice themselves... just so the rest of Spira can be happy, right?
->'''Isaaru''': But that is our choice...
->'''Dona''': We all live in fear of Sin. You know that.
->'''Isaaru''': A world without Sin... That is the dream of all Yevon's children. And we will use that power even if it means our lives!
* A subtle one as the party prepares to climb Mt. Gagazet after Kimahri is accepted by the rest of the Ronso. The Ronso call out to Yuna one last time and Tidus snaps, "What is it ''this'' time?!" After the Ronso sing the Hymn of the Fayth for the party, Tidus shuts up and [[CharacterDevelopment only gets angry at those who deserve it for the rest of the game]].
* At the start of the game, when Tidus gets dumped into Baaj Temple, he ends up in a HopelessBossFight with Geosgaeno and almost gets SwallowedWhole. Much later, if you choose to acquire Anima, you revisit the temple and have a vengeful rematch against it, killing it this time.
* The late Braska got one by defeating Sin with a RagtagBunchOfMisfits that Yevon looked down upon -- he himself disgraced after marrying an Al Bhed, Auron estranged from the church for refusing an ArrangedMarriage with a Yevon priest, and Jecht an [[TheAlcoholic alcoholic]] who blasphemously claimed to be from Zanarkand -- just like he promised when bailing Jecht from prison.
* By the end of the game, Yuna has managed to achieve what was considered to be BeyondTheImpossible: killing Sin ''permanently,'' and without having to sacrifice her own life for it too. She brings about the Eternal Calm, freeing Spira from the horrible cycle of death that has plagued them for ''centuries.''
