''One Piece Film: Strong World'' is ''Franchise/OnePiece'''s tenth movie, written by Creator/EiichiroOda himself, making it the first ''Film'' label[[note]]the ''Film'' label marks the heavy involvement of the series' author Eichiro Oda in the movie production more closely than any other movie prior and after, usually through direct script writing, setting and character creation.[[/note]] entry in the series. As the movie was made in celebration of the [[MilestoneCelebration franchise's tenth anniversary]], Toei personally asked Oda to write the script.

The Straw Hats receive news that their hometowns in East Blue are in trouble and decide to put off adventuring to go help out, only to meet a mysterious flying pirate ship, led by the infamous pirate Golden Lion Shiki, the same pirate who managed to escape the inescapable undersea prison Impel Down and stands among Gold Roger and Whitebeard. After abducting Nami for her navigational skills, Shiki sends Luffy and the rest of the crew hurling down to his personal flying islands. There, the separated Straw Hats find themselves in a battle for survival with terrifying beasts.

The film received an English dub from Creator/FUNimation in November 2013. At the time, the dub of the TV series hadn't yet reached the Thriller Bark arc, so the dub of this film marks [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDalB3mNlzo Brook's English-speaking debut]].

!!Tropes present in this film:

* ActionDressRip: Nami does this in the climax after being cured of her Daft Green and coming up with a plan to stop Shiki for good.
%%* ActionPrologue[=/=]InMediasRes: The movie begins with Luffy being chased by a variety of bizarre and powerful creatures on a bunch of floating islands, with the crew split up and Nami being held captive. Later on the film goes back to a week earlier to explain how everyone got there.
* AnimalMotifs: Lions for Shiki the [[RedBaron Golden Lion]], as well as lions being the "king of beasts" so it is symbolic that Shiki commands an army of beasts to do his bidding.
* AntAssault: Some of the first monsters we see are a horde of literal soldier ants, capable of reducing a sea monster to a skeleton in three seconds flat. They completely ignore [[DemBones Brook]] due to him having no meat on his bones...[[YouAreAlreadyDead and pay dearly for it]].
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: Shiki's plan is to send giant mutant animals to the East Blue and have them wreak havoc.
* BadassInANiceSuit: The entire Straw Hat crew get to wear these during their assault on Shiki's palace.
* {{BFG}}: The Straw Hats storm Shiki's base with everyone carrying these, including those who would hardly, if not never, fight with weapons such as Luffy and Sanji.
* BigBrotherIsWatching: Shiki keeps an eye on his territories via a giant roaming surveillance snail.
* BigDamnHeroes: A particularly strong example occurs when the Straw Hats march into Shiki's headquarters, carrying cannons and using them against Shiki's large force of allies as a way of saying "hello" before really beginning to fight.
-->'''Luffy''': You idiot. Nami didn't sacrifice herself. She came here as a vanguard!
* BlandNameProduct: Franky ride a motorcycle made of lobster he named Zari Davidson .
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Shiki, Indigo, and Scarlet engage in this. The trope is pretty common in ''One Piece'', but uniquely, the trio seem to be doing it deliberately.
* BookEnds: Chronologically, the Straw Hats' adventure began when they received a tone dial from Shiki. At the end of the film, there are some silly antics by Luffy, Usopp and Nami regarding the same tone dial.
* ChekhovsGun: Viewers are reminded earlier on in the movie that Luffy is immune to electricity. [[spoiler:His final attack that defeats Shiki incorporates lightning]].
* ColourfulThemeNaming: Shiki's main crewmembers all have a color in their name: Shiki the [[RedBaron Golden Lion]], Dr. Indigo, and Scarlet.
* CovertDistressCode: It's revealed in the end that [[spoiler:Nami hid a call for help at the end of her resignation letter]].
* CueTheSun: After [[spoiler:Shiki's defeat at the hands of Luffy]], the sun rises.
* DamselOutOfDistress: Nami. When Shiki kidnaps her, she defiantly turns down his offer to join him and manages to escape on her own. She would later [[spoiler:set up bombs to blow up the plant Daft Green, despite exposure to the plants poisoning her. She would also give his men false information so their ship would get caught up in a giant storm which would destabilize things further]].
* DebutQueue: Marks the first appearance of Brook in a One Piece movie. Goes double for those solely following the anime's dub as this was his English voice's debut.
* DeerInTheHeadlights: [[spoiler:Shiki's reaction to Luffy's final attack. Granted, he isn't ''completely'' frozen in place (he does send a few rocks flying towards Luffy as a last-ditch effort), but, well, seeing that he was floating in mid-air and Luffy's Gigant Thor Axe was a pretty slow-moving attack, this would be the most logical explanation for why he didn't just, y'know, fly out of the way.]]
* {{Determinator}}: Nami's loyalism towards her crew and her home is triggered once more, taking the most risky decisions to ensure either side is safe while she's left to bear the burden. [[spoiler:Despite joining Shiki's crew, she knew full well he wasn't going to honor his deal to spare her home seeing as he devastated Merveille village after promising them that he'd leave them for the East Blue.]]
* DevouredByTheHorde: The Guntai Ari are a group of soldier-like ants that can reduce their prey to bones in an instant as Robin, Franky, and Brook witness them do this to a giant shark monster.
* DisproportionateRetribution[=/=]FantasticRacism[=/=]IrrationalHatred: Shiki has a particular dislike towards East Blue, being the weakest of all the seas and having been the place of [[spoiler:his [[WorthyOpponent old rival]] Gold Roger's birth and death, who beat him the first time around and led to his capture and incarceration]]. In fact, he wants to destroy the entire area with his army of beasts as a warning to the World Government. It's also the reason why he antagonizes the Straw Hats when he finds out half of the members are from there.
* DoomedHometown: Shiki wants to make this happen to everyone on the East Blue, which includes half of the Straw Hats' crew's homes. [[spoiler:Shiki ends up ravaging Merveille village after lying to them prior that he'd leave them alone.]] However, [[spoiler:everyone in the village survives the fall of the islands thanks to gaining flight from the wings on their arms, and the town is rebuilt. The frenzied animals have also turned very docile, so there's no need to keep the village surrounded by the highly poisonous Daft Green.]]
* FaintInShock: A RunningGag with Xiao, who faints at the slightest surprise. Since she is very easy to surprise, she faints all the time.
* {{Fanservice}}: Nami, for many of her scenes in the film. She starts the movie in a bikini, changes from that into a shoulder-less top that also bares her midriff and very short shorts, spends the climax in a shoulder-less evening gown (which she later rips the bottom portion off of, baring her legs), and ends the movie just wearing a long shirt, as she's getting out of bed rest from [[spoiler: the Daft Green poisoning]].
* FloatingContinent: Shiki has this as a base of operations thanks to his Float-Float Fruit.
* GaveUpTooSoon: [[spoiler:Luffy gets extremely ''ticked off'' when he listens to Nami's farewell speech to join with Shiki, except, everyone else points out that there was more to the message, which was revealed at the end of the movie.]]
--->'''Nami''': [[spoiler:...If you don't believe me...then prove me wrong, and save me.]]
%%* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: Please check the trope page to make sure your example fits the current definition.
* GildedCage: After kidnapping Nami, Skiki seems to let her have freedom of movement around his palace, since during the brief time we see her there before her escape, rather than a dungeon of any sort she's lounging at his luxurious pool. Not that this makes her take his offer of joining him any more seriously.
* GirlishPigtails: Nami sports these throughout the movie after her escape from Shiki's palace.
* GunsAkimbo: Part of their BigDamnHeroes moment. The only time thus far either Luffy or Zoro use firearms.
* IWishedYouWereDead: Xiao and her mother regret expressing relief over Shiki leaving for East Blue once they realize that most of the Straw Hats are from there.
* KickTheDog: The movie is basically a second bout of trauma for Nami, starting with her kidnapping. It only gets worse from there.
* MadScientist: Dr. Indigo with a clown-like appearance.
* MeaningfulEcho: When Shiki thoroughly beats the Straw Hats, it's [[RedSkyTakeWarning sunset]]. [[spoiler:When Luffy defeats Shiki, it's [[CueTheSun sunrise]]]].
* MixAndMatchCritters: Merveille is home to several of these.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Luffy and Nami decide to warn Shiki of a cyclone coming his way. He thanks them by kidnapping Nami, scattering the Straw Hats, and nearly killing several of them by crushing them in a stone pillar. [[spoiler:The one upside out of helping him was that it eventually lead to them foiling his plans and saving East Blue (their original intention).]]
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: What Shiki does to the crew midway into the movie.
* NonSerialMovie: [[ZigzaggedTrope Zigzagged]]. Shiki and his backstory showcased in a special chapter of the ''Manga/OnePiece'' manga (known as "Chapter 0") are considered canon (and he has been referenced a couple of times in the manga, unrelated to the film), and the film was [[SelfAdaptation written by the creator]], with its official title even calling it the [[TheMovie "One Piece Film"]]. However, the canonicity of the film itself is heavily debatable, as it showcases definite inconsistencies from the manga, most notably Zoro (having suffered injuries in Thriller Bark, with the timeframe between the Thriller Bark and Sabaody Archipelago arcs being the only point in time that the film could have possibly taken place during) being able to fight at full health, despite his wounds reopening very quickly at Sabaody under similar circumstances. The events of the film itself have also never been brought up in the manga, even in passing.
** The small four episode mini-arc meant to lead up to it is widely considered non-canon, however.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Towards the climax, Shiki calmly forgoes his running gag with Dr. Indigo and simply moves on to meet with the pirate leaders.
* PartyScattering: The Straw Hats are split up by Shiki early in the movie.
* PlotParallel: This is twice now that [[spoiler:Shiki's plans for world domination had been stopped by a man from East Blue; a fact that Shiki himself noticed.]]
* PowerFloats: Thanks to his Devil Fruit, Shiki can cause inanimate objects to levitate, including entire ''islands''.
* {{Prequel}}: Two supplementary materials: ''Episode 0'', which explains some of Shiki's backstory and actually gives some sight into the ''One Piece'' world shortly after Gold Roger's death; and the Little East Blue Arc, which takes place before the movie.
* PsychoSerum: SIQ, which causes mutations in animals and turns them vicious.
* PunnyName: Luffy names Nami's electric bird friend "Billy". ''Biribiri'' is a Japanese onomatopoeia for electrical tingling. Also, he's a duck.
* RedSkyTakeWarning: When Shiki arrives to get back Nami and later thoroughly trashes the Straw Hats, the sky is particularly red due to the sun setting.
* {{Rotoscoping}}: For Shiki, Indigo, and Scarlet's dance at the beginning of the film.
* RuleOfCool: Oda admitted the whole "Dressed up Straw Hats march" was entirely for this reason.
* SayMyName: A variation at the end of the movie: [[spoiler:when Shiki is defeated by Luffy, he doesn't yell out Luffy's name, but ''Roger'''s name, as Roger was the other man from East Blue who defeated him in the past.]]
* SceneryPorn: Merveille, which means "marvel" in French, certainly lives up to its name.
* SchrodingersCanon: The movie was written by the manga author Creator/EiichiroOda himself. It received a tie-in volume with a completely canonical chapter detailing some events from two decades prior to the manga's current timeline (while ending on a setup for the movie). Even the BigBad, Shiki, gets mentioned in the manga every now and then. With all this in mind, you'd think the movie itself was part of the main manga canon, but that's not quite the case. The events of the movie are never referenced at all and trying to insert ''Strong World'' in the manga timeline is difficult since a) Brook already joined the crew by then (making it impossible for the movie to have happened before the Thriller Bark Arc) and b) Roronoa Zoro should still be recovering from injuries that left him nearly dead (the injuries he received were bad enough to affect his performance in the Sabaody Archipelago Arc, but nothing of the sort comes up during ''Strong World''). Brook also mentions that the fight against the Flying Fish Riders during the start of the Sabaody Arc is his first as a Straw Hat pirate, contradicting the notion that ''Strong World'' happened before Sabaody too, but then having it happen after Sabaody is also impossible since the crew gets split by then and only gets to reunite after two years.
* ShoutOut: The scene with Scarlet, the pervert gorilla, holding Robin hostage at the top of a tower [[Film/KingKong looks very familiar]].
* SignatureLaugh:
** Shiki: "Jihahahaha".
** Indigo: "Piropiropiro".
* StealthPun: In the ColdOpen, Sanji and Usopp get attacked by a group of mutated bulls that launch themselves at blinding speed like they were fired from a gun. [[spoiler:[[DontExplainTheJoke They're BULL-ets]].]]
* TeamPet: Billy.
* TechnicolorScience: Shown when Chopper and Usopp break into Indigo's lab.
* ThemeNaming: The flora on Merveille has names themed around intelligence: the plant IQ forms the basis for the PsychoSerum SIQ, which enhances animals' aggressiveness, causes mutations, and makes them more intelligent and dangerous. The IQ plants are also the only cure for the poisonous Daft Green plants; "daft" being used to refer to describe a foolish person.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Shiki is a guy who really doesn't check his headlines or if his opponent is down for good. Luffy recovers from his "final" attacks twice in the film and he still treats him like a nuisance rather than a full on threat. [[HoistByHisOwnPetard Big mistake]].
* UngratefulBastard: After the Straw Hats go out of their way to warn him of an incoming typhoon, Shiki decides to kidnap Nami to be his new navigator and nearly kills the rest of the crew by sending them hurling down several stories from the air to his floating islands as prey for his army of beasts.
* UnstoppableRage: Shiki managed to get Luffy the angriest he's been in a long time.
-->'''Luffy:''' You think after everything you've done to my friend, and my sea, that I'm going to let you get away with all of this?!!
* WalkingSwimsuitScene: Nami is seen in a bikini in the first part of the movie.
* WhatTheHellHero: [[spoiler:Luffy blows his lid after he listens to Nami's resignation message to join Shiki's crew and berates her when the dust is settled. However, everyone else is not angry with her because they bothered to listen to the rest of the message, because she needed to make most of it more convincing to Shiki to keep him from learning their cover plan.]]
* WingedHumanoid: The inhabitants of Merveille have feathers growing out of their forearms, without knowing why or how. [[spoiler: After Shiki's defeat and the return of their island to the sea, they discover they can indeed fly.]]
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: A bear does a suplex to a giant mantis early in the film.
