A ContinuityReboot of the {{Manga}} ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'' (for some reason, considering the main manga was still running at the time) by Creator/StudioShaft. This 26-episode series takes the basic premise and characters of the {{Manga}}, adds DerangedAnimation and gags, removes almost all of the {{fanservice}}[[note]]minus the [=OVAs=], which had it all full force[[/note]], transforming it into a QuirkyWork.

There is also a manga of the anime series called ''Negima!? neo'' (making it [[RecursiveAdaptation the manga of an anime of a manga]]), which keeps the same overall plot but removes a lot of the DerangedAnimation elements and adds a few of the old series' elements back in.

----
!!''Negima!?'' provides examples of:
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Negima!?]]
* AdaptationDyeJob: [[AdaptationDyeJob/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi Has its own page.]]
* AdaptationalRomanceDowngrade: The UnwantedHarem aspect of the manga is nearly nonexistent in this anime adaptation of ''Negima''. The only girls who develop romantic feelings for Negi are Nodoka and Yue, while other girls who get {{Ship Tease}}d with him in the manga, like Asuna, Chisame, Ako, Eva and Chachamaru, never show attraction for him and [[AdaptationalComicRelief their scenes focus on comic relief instead]].
* AlternateContinuity: Some elements still remain but it's pretty much another series with some of the same cast.
* AlwaysInClassOne: Like in the original manga, Negi teaches the class A.
* ArtShift: Many, many times, most noticeably with the chibi UsefulNotes/{{Baka}} Rangers. Several of the characters also had minor changes between manga/first series of the anime to the second for identity purposes.
* AscendedExtra: The Narutaki twins, who are hardly seen in the original ''Negima'', have their role greatly expanded early on in the series, being among the first characters to have a Pactio. Chizuru and Natsumi also get this treatment somewhat.
* BadNewsInAGoodWay: Frequently, courtesy of Motsu.
** in a good way...
* BigBad: [[spoiler: Anya, who took the Star Crystal because of [[GreenEyedMonster her jealousy]] towards Negi doing so well. She becomes BrainwashedAndCrazy and is the one causing all the magical problems at Mahora academy. So when all is said and done, the BigBad was just some [[BrattyHalfPint bratty kid]] with a [[SmallNameBigEgo superiority complex]].]]
* BlessedWithSuck: The Neo Pactio system. Each time a partner transforms, Negi will draw one of three cards: an Armor card (the strongest), {{Cosplay}} Card (moderately stronger than normal), and a Dud card (absolutely useless); time runs out very quickly and the partner is starving afterwords.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: "The Darkness" is a mysterious force that repeatedly brainwashes several of Negi's students to make them play the episode's villains.
* CameBackWrong: The UsefulNotes/{{Baka}} Rangers come back as zombies after getting Blown up by Baka Pink and then become girls in animal suits after being rebuilt by MadScientist Hakase.
* CanonForeigner: Motsu and Shichimi.
* CastFromCalories: In the anime, the Pactio system is reworked to draw on the partner's calorie count instead of the mage's magic reserves like in the manga. Thus, while Negi was testing Nodoka's Cosplay card, her stomach growled after changing back and he bought her a hamburger to make up for it. This plot-point becomes an issue whenever the students are trapped in a separate dimension without any access to food.
* CastHerd: Most of the class seems to be in groups; however, the most blatant example is the cheerleaders, who are never seen separately.
* CharacterExaggeration: Quite a few of the class members. The most blatant examples are:
** Makie goes from the everyday GenkiGirl to the ButtMonkey of the class.
** Ayaka's love for Negi, while extreme, never went as far as making stuff such as coffee mugs, t-shirts and other material with Negi's face on them. (This one becomes a bit of a CanonImmigrant as a plane with Negi's face shows up in the manga.)
** Asuna goes from a normal girl with really bad grades who sleeps in after her paper route to a girl who suffers from AttentionDeficitOohShiny with hyperfocus whose train of thoughts can only be understood by Konoka.
** Yuna goes from a [[GenkiGirl Genki]] {{Gunslinger}} to a gun-obsessed tank {{otaku}} who just drools over Mana's guns. Whereas the Cheerleaders thought Yuna was over Mana's guns.
* {{Chupacabra}}: Asuna is obsessed with them and forms the ((Chupacabra)) [[JapaneseSchoolClub Research Society]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Negi's sister Nekane. [[spoiler: Which turns out to be a case of ObfuscatingInsanity.]]
** Chizuru has her moments, too.
* ColorFailure: Kaede gets one when Fumika refuses to tell her what she will look like in the future.
* CurseCutShort: In episode 25 of the dub, Chamo says that he's "getting too old for this sh-*beep*".
** Negi also has one of these early on in the series when he's busted by Shichimi and Motsu. If you listen closely, he starts to say "holy shit" but manages to change it to "Holy Shichimi!"
* DenserAndWackier: In comparison to the original manga, this series is a lot sillier and more prone to DerangedAnimation (which isn't surprising, considering [[Creator/StudioShaft the studio behind it]]).
* DerangedAnimation: Everywhere but the Opening is especially deranged.
** [[http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/9075/arigatounegimas2ep13x26.png Chibi versions of the girls on Popsicle sticks being chased by a T-rex...]] it's that kind of series.
** It's Creator/StudioShaft! DerangedAnimation is their trademark.
* EvolvingCredits: The first time an episode has the "A-LY-A!" ending animation, there is a lone chibi-Asuna "assisting" the music, with maracas. Konoka, Setsuna and Nodoka start to join some episodes later.
* ExposedToTheElements: Asuna's bare feet are exposed to Evangeline's ice magic in episode 3, after she threw her shoes at her.
* ExpressiveHair: Asuna's is extremely expressive, spelling words, pointing at things of interest and creating CrossPoppingVeins, among other things.
* EyeCatch: Tons of them, appearing not just at commercial breaks but as a segue between scenes. There's some really freaky ones like [[http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/7325/vlcsnap2011042521h43m26.png Octopus Zazie]]
* TheFlatwoodsMonster: A Darkness-generated Flatwoods Monster eavesdrops in Konoemon Konoe's office in Episode 4.
* FourLeafClover: Yue gives one to Nodoka to support Negi in his final battle
* GagDub: Well, kind of. Creator/FUNimation's dub somehow manages to make the series even sillier.
* GagSeries: While there's a plot with a mystery going on, the main focus of this anime is wacky comedy.
* GamerChick: Asuna is ecstatic when she gets Zombie Rider: The Son-in-Law used. Setsuna is strangely fascinated by it; she, Konoka, and Asuna are seen playing it on different occasions.
* GogglesDoSomethingUnusual:
** Until Sayo makes her Pactio with Negi, the only way the normal students can see her is via an enchanted camera.
** Fumika's cosplay item is a magnifying glass that shows what things will look like in the future.
* HeavySleeper: Asuna gets this now in addition to the already present NotAMorningPerson.
* HiveMind:
** The cheerleaders are turned into this.
** Whenever a group of students are possessed by the Star Crystal, they're turned into this. It's taken to the point where the Crystal will say a sentence while cycling through each girl's voice. Quickly {{lampshade|Hanging}}d in the Japanese dub by Chamo.
---> '''Chamo:''' Speak through one person!!
** The above is taken to it's logical extreme towards the end, [[spoiler:when the Crystal creates illusions of the entire class in order to trick Negi. When revealed, the girls all shout a single sentence, with each girl saying a few words.]]
* ImprovisedWeapon: Asuna throws a boat at Eva while at the lake. As Eva says
--> "Who throws a boat!?'
* InteractiveNarrator: The narrator is not adverse to having conversations with the cast.
* JapaneseSchoolClub: Asuna founds the Chupacabra club to study the mythological creature and even gets Chupacabra T-shirts for the members to wear. However, she's the only member who's actually in it for the Chupacabra; everyone else is there to learn magic from Negi.
* LanguageOfMagic: Though most viewers (especially in Japan) wouldn't guess it, the magical script that accompanies the incantations is actually written in the Armenian alphabet.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Konoka comments on Asuna's obsession with Takamichi lasting "only for part of the first season. Then it was Chupacabra.".
* LemonyNarrator: The Narrator takes the LargeHam to a whole another level. He's ''even hammier'' in the English dub! Considering the Japanese Narrator is Creator/{{Mugihito}}, and the English Narrator is Creator/ChristopherSabat, [[IncomingHam this should be expected]].
* LethalChef:
** Takamichi and his world delicacy noodles.
** Asuna also starts a grease fire attempting to fix Negi breakfast.
* LyricalColdOpen: The "A-LY-YA!" ending themes.
* MagicalIncantation: The series does this differently than ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'', as spell incantations now are at the end of casts instead of before them. Negi uses Tel Ma Amorista and Eva uses Lilac Spiritous.
* MoodWhiplash: Happens multiple times...in the same scene.
* MoreDakka The bad guys in the Anime/{{Macross}} {{shoutout}} are [[http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/9075/arigatounegimas2ep13x26.png nothing but guns]].
* MundaneMadeAwesome: Ramen. Eating, cooking, telling the future with it -- Takamichi makes it awesome.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: Baka Pink.. full stop. She constantly gets cut off in her introduction and her [[TheMovie personal movie]] was denied. She hates it.
* MysteriousProtector: A [[Franchise/SailorMoon Tuxedo Kamen]] clone known as the Black Rose Baron is introduced early on. At first, Negi believes that the Baron is his father, [[spoiler:but he later finds out from Konoka that the Baron is really his big sister/cousin, Nekane Springfield. If you listen closely you can tell its voiced by a woman]]
* MythologyGag:
** The anime spends oodles of time on a one-off chupacabra joke from the original manga.
** In episode 14, during a scene in which all of Negi's students who haven't yet entered pactios with him do so by kissing him one by one, the music that plays is the opening theme from [[Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi Negima!]] The animation for that opening ended with each of Negi's students leaning in to kiss him.
* {{Narrator}}: Creator/{{Mugihito}} narrates the anime.
* NotSoExtinct: Asuna spends 24 out of 26 episodes looking the {{Chupacabra}} which everyone says doesn't exist; they create a Chupacabra school club and order T-shirts and other items. At the end of the series, she finds one (which she quickly puts to work signing T-shirts.)
* OddFriendship:
** In this version Makie and Ayaka room together and have a very odd relationship.
** Also, Takahata hangs roundabout Evangeline and Chachamaru quite a lot (mostly for tea and/or ramen, along with plot-relevant conversation). Sarcastic, relatively playful banter often ensues.
** Makie and Motsu seem to strike up an odd friendship as well.
* OminousMultipleScreens: Used often during important scenes.
* TheOner: The free-falling Pactio scene from episode 14.
* PowerGivesYouWings: Setsuna's armor pactio card does this unlike her original self which she is half demon and has them naturally.
* {{Pun}}: Standard fare for Mana and Zazie who grade each other on the quality of the pun or others grade them when the team isnt together. They later start grading ones that they can't possibly hear.
** One of the few times this ISN'T done is when they're all in their Suka/Dud forms.
* RiddleForTheAges: What was Kaede's future that was so horrible, the Narutaki twins refused to say?
* RPGEpisode: Sayo's exploration of the dorm. She gains stats as she scares the crap out of the dorm residents from a top-down perspective like the original ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaI''. The Triforce even makes an appearance.
* RunningGag:
** Makie being '''Crushed''' and Asuna's {{Chupacabra}} are almost in the OnceAnEpisode territory.
** The three minutes it takes to cook instant noodles. ItMakesSenseInContext. [[GagSeries Kind of]].
** In episode 14, Kazumi frequently runs up to Negi to tell him there's something going wrong.
* {{Sentai}}: The "Mahora Sentai Bakaranger" shorts. [[TheChewToy Poor Makie...]]
* ShyBlueHairedGirl This time it's Nodoka (who normally has purple hair but is always shy).
* ShoutOut: A lot of them:
** Throughout one episode, bags appear with names of famous warriors from the Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms novel.
** The Triforce shows up during Sayo's exploration of the dorm.
** [[WesternAnimation/SouthPark Sayoth Park]] [[http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3066/arigatounegimas2ep20x26.png]]
** VideoGame/StreetFighterIII [[http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/7034/arigatounegimas2ep08x26.png]]
** Anime/{{Macross}}: In a really weird shoutout Ku Fei gets to play the role of TheCaptain ([[http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/9075/arigatounegimas2ep13x26.png Complete with hat and cape]]). Yuna, Ako and Akira get the roles of the BridgeBunnies, Mana, Zazie, Asakura play the role of the {{Ace Pilot}}s. The LemonyNarrator [[LampshadeHanging points out]] that not one of them questioned the arrival of ''VideoGame/SpaceInvaders''.
** In the same sequence [[http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9075/arigatounegimas2ep13x26.png This angle]] is exactly the same as a certain Ace Pilot in ''Anime/CodeGeass''.
** again in that sequence the targeting screen looks a lot like a [[http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/9075/arigatounegimas2ep13x26.png certain atari game]].
** The "Super" Power Glove makes an appearance
** Kumā makes an appearance on a sign during the camping trip.
** When Eva grows to gigantic size, the reactions of the other characters are almost identical to a scene from the 2nd season of ''Anime/GalaxyAngel''.
** There's a Pokemon shoutout at one point.
** In episode 21 when Evangeline and Chachamaru become mysteriously trapped in a house in the middle of a body of water, it may be a reference to the GainaxEnding of ''Anime/TsukuyomiMoonPhase'', especially considering that like that show's protagonist Hazuki, Evangeline is a vampire. Evangeline even turns up in a cat costume at the end of the episode, while Hazuki frequently wore a CatEaredHeadband.
** The status screens in ep 26 greatly resemble the interface in ''VideoGame/EtrianOdyssey''.
** In one episode, Mana can be seen cleaning a [[http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/9103/screenshot20120902at405.png gun]]. That gun happens to be the [[http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/4/46928/1754534-nge_positron_rifle_composite_2.jpg positron rifle]] from ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion''. The design is slightly different, but the plate reading "JSSDR" is nearly identical to the one reading "JSSDF" on the rifle in Evangelion.
* ShoeSlap: Asuna throws both her shoes at Eva before throwing a boat.
* SlippySlideyIceWorld: Eva creates one by freezing a lake, complete with caverns.
* SpottingTheThread: Towards the end, [[spoiler:the Star Crystal creates illusions of Class 3-A in order to trick Negi into jumping into an abyss. When Negi is reluctant to do so, fake!Eva quickly tries to pull a HeroicSacrifice, telling Negi to jump while she stalls the monster chasing them. Real!Asuna (the real Class 3-A is watching the events unfold) quickly calls fake!Eva out for her uncharacteristically noble behavior, which is what tips Negi off that he is being set up.]]
* TamerAndChaster: The [[Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi original series]] is known for having a fair deal of {{fanservice}}, but this anime has none. The [=OVAs=], however, bring back the fanservice in full force.
* TheTeam: The UsefulNotes/{{Baka}} [[{{Sentai}} Rangers]] (Dummy Force in the dub) was once a throwaway line in the original manga about the 5 worst students in the class. It gets expanded to its own short miniseries in this where they spoof {{Sentai}}, gain powers to fight crime and constantly fail at trying to live up to their roles.
* TinCanYouHearMeNow: Kaede and Setsuna tried to make these work between their rooms however as [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_arigato_3431.jpg Konoka explained]] they don't work between doors, much to their dismay causing them to gain [[RPGEpisode +5 Absentmindedness and -3 intelligence]] however it lets them hear the invisible CuteGhostGirl nearby leading to screams.
* TransformationSequence: Occasionally invoking a Pactio involves this.
* UtilityBelt: Yue has one for her various juice boxes.
* WikiWalk: Asuna does this a lot. Only Konoka can explain the route she took to get there.
* WingdingEyes: Asuna gets hearts when she gets the game Zombie Rider: The Son-In-Law.
* YouAreNumberSix: At the start of the series Negi calls his class by their number; in an illusion later on, their number is tattooed on them, changes places and is always in frame.
** In the "normal" opening sequence (there are a few variants of this) the girls are nearly ALWAYS depicted with their number next to them. This even occurs when their face isn't shown. The only exception to this is when the girls are walking at the beginning (some are, some aren't) and Asuna when she's running through the desks with Negi.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Negima!? neo]]
* ACupAngst: Anya, just like in the original, but here it's played with even more.
* AccidentalPervert: Happens to Kotaro once with almost all the girls in the class.
* AdaptationExpansion: The ''Negima!? neo'' manga significantly expands on Evangeline's backstory with Negi's father, Nagi. Two whole chapters are dedicated to explaining in detail how Evangeline met Nagi and why she developed a crush on him. The flashback adds interactions between her and Nagi that weren't in the original manga, most notably the two working together to save a human village from a horde of evil demons.
* AlwaysInClassOne: Like in the original manga, Negi teaches the class A.
* ChristmasEpisode: Combined with WholeEpisodeFlashback in chapters 25-26 where Evangeline recounts to Negi about the Christmas she spent with his father Nagi before he sealed her at Mahora Academy 15 years ago.
* ClothingSwitch: In chapter 29, Konoka wears a Shinsengumi uniform and Setsuna a luxurious kimono when they're visiting the Toei Kyoto Studio Park, which is the reverse of the same situation in the original manga.
* DisposableFiance: [[spoiler:Fate]] becomes Asuna's arranged fiancé and forgotten childhood friend, but she turns him down to stay with Negi.
* HeadbuttThermometer: Konoka checks Setsuna's temperature by placing her forehead over hers in chapter 29. Knowing Konoka, she did it to tease Setsuna.
* MesACrowd: In chapter 18, the residual power of the Star Crystal creates several clones of Nodoka that are trying to fulfill her desire of confessing her love to Negi. The fake Nodokas disappear after she confesses.
* MissionControl: Negi in the Baka Rangers shorts.
* MythologyGag: Chapter 29 is basically a tribute to Konoka and Setsuna's trip to Movie Town during the original manga's Kyoto arc.
* NotADate: Chapter 29 is about Konoka and Setsuna being sent on a trip to Kyoto to give a letter to Konoka's father. Because of Konoka's antics, they miss the train and have to spend the night in a RyokanInn together, all while Konoka is being even more flirtatious than usual and Setsuna tries to not panic from embarrassment. The next day, Konoka takes Setsuna to Toei Kyoto Studio Park so they can spend time together. [[spoiler:At the end of the chapter, it's revealed it ''was'' basically a date Konoka set up with her grandfather's help so she and Setsuna could fulfill their childhood promise to kiss at the park.]]
* PantyThief: In Chapter 9, Negi is trying to catch the one who has stolen the panties of several of his students. The culprit is a cat making a bed for her kittens and not Chamo for once.
* PetBabyWildAnimal: Chapter 27 is about Akira taking care of a sick baby dolphin she names Ruka until it fully recovers and she releases it back into the ocean.
* RoboticReveal: Chachamaru gets one during the Negi vs Eva fight.
* SealedWithAKiss: Near the end of the final chapter, Negi and Asuna kiss after he asks her to stay together with him forever.
* ThereIsOnlyOneBed: Konoka and Setsuna share a futon in Chapter 29 where only the two of them are staying the night at a RyokanInn. Konoka is happy about it because they always slept together when they were kids, but Setsuna can't sleep from how nervous she is.
* WinToExit: In chapter 11, a fairy traps Negi, Asuna, Konoka, Setsuna, and Chisame inside the Magical Girl Biblion videogame.
