* ''Webcomic/AdventureDennis'' has its final chapter devoted to an "information booklet" that reveals some information about the story and specifically acts like an old game manual.
* ''Webcomic/TheAdventurousScarletCarolusAndTheMachineOfEternalSummer'': The website features a page with supplementary material about the comic’s [[https://www.sandraandwoo.com/scarlet/setting/ setting]] and a [[https://www.sandraandwoo.com/scarlet/glossary/ glossary]].
* ''[[http://aetheria-epics.schala.net Aetheria Epics]]'': A significant amount of background information to the world not mention in the comic proper has been described in the site's forum, simply because the author candidly answers most non-spoiler-y questions posed by fans.
* ''Webcomic/AmongTheChosen'' has extensive liner notes about the art and universe at the bottom of each page. As well as the [=FAQs=] and cast pages, some of which are a little hard to get to.
%%* ''Webcomic/{{Angels 2200}}'' has the [[http://www.janahoffmann.com/angels/comics/angels2200hbv1_0.pdf Angels 2200 Handbook]].
* All of the characters in ''Webcomic/ApricotCookies'' have "normal" names in addition to the names shown when they transform. Only Cream's (Philippa) is actually mentioned in the comic, but everyone else's is listed on the [[https://apricotcookies.net/characters characters page]] in Japanese script.
* The website for ''Webcomic/Aurora2019'' has a collection of "extra lore" pages that provide additional details about the setting from the POV of the Aseran Academy. Most of the details have since been revealed in-story, but there are a few that are yet to come into play, such as the existence of [[InvoluntaryShapeshifting "unstable"]] and [[VoluntaryShapeshifting "shifter"]] ferin in addition to "hybrid" ferin like Falst.
* The names of several characters in ''Webcomic/AwfulHospital'' including Redbert, Diptworth, and the Parliament can only be discovered by examining the file name of their images.
* ''Webcomic/{{Ayuri}}'': Fenna's status as a PuppeteerParasite, and dobeks serving as her species' host, are stated on her character page.
* ''Webcomic/ABetterPlace'' has large amounts of worldbuilding in the episode descriptions, such as descriptions of the cities and the nature of the Wards.
* ''Webcomic/CogaNito'' has a [[http://coganito.tumblr.com Tumblr]], which mostly features additional doodles and character bios at the end of each chapter, which also provide setting information regards The Corpse and Pieces. The author will also use the page comments to ramble about extraneous details from time to time.
* One of the authors of ''Webcomic/ComicShorts'' has set up a [[http://comicshorts.wikia.com/wiki/Comic_Shorts_Wiki Wiki]] to keep track of background story details as it gets expanded on. Most of the information on it has yet to be brought up any of the comics.
* ''WebComic/CommanderKitty'' has the Kitty Komm on the side of the page. Normally, it just presents author's comments, but sometimes it also provides some world building details, like [[http://www.commanderkitty.com/2009/03/29/i-hate-the-living/ how exactly the ship's A.I. operates]] or [[http://www.commanderkitty.com/2011/04/10/perfect-disaster/ the definition of "Skyfly"]].
* ''Webcomic/CucumberQuest'' has [[http://gigidigi.tumblr.com/ Gigi's Tumblr]].
* The website for ''Webcomic/CwynhildsLoom'' features a great deal of background information on the comic, including maps and a section on Martian timekeeping.
* ''Webcomic/TheCyantianChronicles'': There is the [[http://shivae.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Shivaewiki]] that has information about the characters and races of ''Webcomic/TheCyantianChronicles'', ''Webcomic/AlienDice'', and ''Shivae''. Although, ''Alien Dice'' and ''Shivae'' aren't parts of ''The Cyantian Chronicles'', they are still written and drawn by the same author.
* ''Webcomic/DanAndMabsFurryAdventures'' has the Demonology 101 pages, which give details about Furrae and its races (some of which aren't even ''mentioned'' in the actual comic). In the Hybrid Genetics 101 pages, the creator's assistant, [[SnarkyNonHumanSidekick Fluffy]], expresses disdain for giving so much information about stuff who will probably never make to the comic.
* ''Webcomic/DeviantUniverse'' have a lot of character back-stories and information on their character profiles, and some artists may also have other comics featuring their characters outside of the DU.
* ''WebComic/DragonBallMultiverse'': The official novelization and official fanfictions telling the story of U12, 14, and 16 reveals bits of information unavailable in the main comic. Presumably the most important of them will be revealed later in the main comic or in the specials. Too bad they were only available [[NoExportForYou only in French]]. Recently though, there has been an attempt at creating an English novelization, and the prologue and several chapters have finally been translated.
* Quite a bit of dragon culture, history, and anything else related to [[http://www.drunkduck.com/Dragon_City Dragon City]] are explained in the "Ask Professor Rachel" segment in which readers ask the mother of the family in the comic about the previously mentioned subjects. Some of these things are touched on later, but most of it is strictly contained in this segment.
* ''Webcomic/ElGoonishShive'' has a [[http://elgoonishshive.wikia.com/wiki/El_Goonish_Shive_Timeline fan made and maintained timeline on a wiki]] that Dan considers canon and is very useful for keeping track of how much time has passed between events and what day it is in comic due to WebComicTime. The rest of the wiki is good for keeping track of characters traits right down to their height and eye color which otherwise would require sifting through forum posts and twitter updates.
* Inversion: Early on, ''Webcomic/{{Erfworld}}'' inserts explanatory material from Parson Gotti's website ''between its conventional story pages''. "Parson's Klog" functions identically to the supplemental online sources that other users of this trope provide, giving needed information about the rules of the game-cum-world Parson finds himself trapped in ... except, in this case, it only ''looks'' like a separate web source. In short, this time The Manual Is All In There.
* ''Webcomic/FetchQuestSagaOfTheTwelveArtifacts'' has the Historical Codex of Bideogamu, which has enough information to understand the plot in a more in-depth point of view. One should read it to see why, for instance, demons are AlwaysChaoticEvil in this world.
* Due to the [[SpeakingSimlish lack]] of [[RebusBubble text]] in ''Webcomic/{{Fite}}'', most of the characters' names are only on the Cast Page.
* While the characters and the [[http://www.sandraandwoo.com/gaia/2012/04/03/shadowdancers-005/ most important historical facts]] are introduced normally in ''Webcomic/{{Gaia}}'', the webcomic is accompanied by extra sections giving more detailed information about the setting.
* ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'' has a whole Wiki of its own, as well as the Secret Blueprints (which may or may not be canon but are accepted as 'close enough' by most fans with access to them), several trade paperbacks (the latest issue of which contains a few extra pages that were never published), and The Works -- a strategic card game that contains several cards depicting people who haven't been seen yet, and some information about people we ''have'' seen that hasn't been confirmed in-comic yet (for example: Klaus's card was [[spoiler:one of the first confirming pieces of evidence that he's a construct, although the FAQ and his Wiki article explicitly state it.]] Then there's the whole business about the Other, whose true identity - while canonically confirmed as [[spoiler:Lucrezia Mongfish]] in the comics -- is still widely unknown by the majority of the cast and is still a subject of speculation among fans (possibly because the speculators don't quite want to believe that [[spoiler:Lucrezia would actually do something that would kill her own son.]]) Not to mention that it might be a bit difficult to keep track of just what happened when without that nifty time-line...oh, and the timeline has its own problems at times.
** A more minor example is the Island of the Monkey Girls. It's referenced several times in the comic, but there's no indication as to what it really is -- just a bar with a weird name.
** The identity of Klaus as [[spoiler:Zeetha's father, Chump]] arguably falls under this. It was learned when [[spoiler:one fan requested [[http://haus-of-klaus.livejournal.com/25974.html a sketch of Zeetha's father]]. More or less confirmed by a requested sketch of Klaus dressed as he would have dressed back in Skifander.]]
* ''Handsome Fungus'' makes many references to other members of the Save Tiny Tim site.
* ''Webcomic/{{Harkovast}}'' features a large amount of additional maps and background information that has yet to appear in the comic, but is posted on the accompanying forum.
* ''Webcomic/KaitenMutenmaru'': Supplementary information, including the worldbuilding and the names and personalities of some characters, comes from trading cards, tweets from the official accounts, extra illustrations in the ''Manga Goccha'' serialization, and the books.
* The ''Webcomic/KevinAndKell'' FAQ answers many questions about the comics, including about a few developments that occurred before the strip began, such as Rudy taking on his mother's last name on her suggestion after his father died.
* Background information on ''Webcomic/{{Khatru}}'''s characters can be found on the new website's Cast Page.
** WordOfGod says that's no longer the backstory, but was more like an early sketch for it.
* Many KoreanWebtoons such as ''Webcomic/{{Kubera}}'' and ''Webcomic/TowerOfGod'' have author's blogs where a great amount of background information is given to those curious. And fluent in Korean.
* A decent amount of the ''Webcomic/{{Lackadaisy}}'' characters' backstories, quirks and previous relationships are explained through the [[http://www.lackadaisycats.com/characters.php character page]] and by the author herself [[http://lackadaisycats.tumblr.com/ answering reader questions.]]
** But to be fair, this is due to the comic's slow update rate, as well as [[WordOfGod Tracy]] trying to make up for it with supplementary material.
* ''Webcomic/LeavingTheCradle'' have an extensive wiki describing many minute details of the setting that are unlikely to appear in the story itself. Part of it is translated, but the majority is still in Russian, though.
* ''Webcomic/LegendOfTheBlueDiamond'': Certain information can only be found on projects that aren't apart of the main comic series, such as some characters' backstories or a family tree of the characters.
* ''Webcomic/MaggotBoy'' has a [[http://maggot-boy.com/extra.html written version]] that goes into a lot more detail than the comic. Sketches on the artist's deviantart page also give information on some of the characters before the events of the comic.
* [[Webcomic/AMagicalRoommate Emily Martha Sorenson]] provides a running commentary alongside the strip, which explores character's psyches, the cultures of various races, and some incidents from her own life in any sort of way. A straighter example of this would be the forum, where fans often point out possibilities and she either [[WordOfGod expands on them,]] [[AscendedFanon agrees with them,]] or [[{{Jossed}} josses them.]]
* ''Webcomic/{{Misfile}}'': If you really want to understand how the [[CelestialBureaucracy Celestial Depository]] works and the effects of reversing the [[RetGone misfile]], and find out just how Tempest has such a cool mountain racetrack you need to have read the "about" section on the website, read the [[FourthWallMailSlot Ask Ash column]], and ordered the print books so you could read the liner notes.
* ''[[{{Webcomic/Morphe}} morphE]]'' has a Tumblr blog full of extra material such as Ask Blogs which flesh out the main characters backstories. Most notably in the main comic Asia is referred to having an abnormal upbringing. A lot of her mannerisms and quirks can be explained through one particular CharacterBlog entry which states she was rescued from a cult at an early age and needed to be home schooled because she was unable to integrate into a normal life. Details of Billy's TV show have also been posted there, where in the main comic he just mentions he was on a TV show.
* ''Webcomic/MSFHigh'' has highly detailed background in the library section of its site and on its forums, as well as the RPG rulebooks
* Many of the characters in ''Webcomic/NotInMyBackyard'' never had their names stated in-strip. For that, you need the [[http://web.archive.org/web/20000903161747/www.notinmybackyard.com/characters.htm Wayback Machine archive]] of the character page, but even ''that'' doesn't reflect some of the characters who were added in the last year before it became an OrphanedSeries.
* ''Webcomic/TheOrderOfTheStick'' has a couple of prequel books that explain a few of the more obscure points in the story. The first book, ''On the Origin of [=PCs=]'', details what the various characters were doing before they all met, and other details, such as where the name "Order of the Stick" comes from ([[spoiler:because there's a stick on the ground]]). The second prequel book, ''Start Of Darkness'' (which is the TropeNamer, incidentally), gives a lot of exposition on the villains of the story, such as why Redcloak despises the paladins so very much, or how they met the Monster in the Darkness.
** Haley, Belkar, and the Thieves' Guild retrieving Roy's corpse was saved for the printed collection due to pacing issues. However, the sequence also justifies why [[spoiler:Haley seems to murder Crystal in cold blood]], which was hotly debated on the forums.
* The [[http://www.danielscreations.com/ola website]] for ''Webcomic/OurLittleAdventure'' has info on the comic's characters, planar system and cosmology. The notable characters have character sheets that show their [[TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons stats and abilities.]] Paying attention to the forum also helps as the author often gives additional information on people, places and things to readers who ask about it.
* ''Webcomic/{{Outsider}}''[='s=] website features the ''Outsider Insider'' section, which gives a lot of background information about the setting, bonus art, and answers to fan questions.
* ''Webcomic/{{Platformers}}'' has bits of information about both the protagonists and the Galaxy Council on the [[https://www.deviantart.com/yourclairygodmother/gallery/64332686/the-characters-platformers character galleries]] the author made.
* ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'' author Jeph Jacques has constantly put in bits and pieces about how the AI's in the comic ([=AnthroPC's=], etc.) function, and after 8 years, finally gave a full rundown in the commentary section of [[http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1996 this comic.]]
* ''Webcomic/Rain2010'': Some of the characters' biographical information is only revealed in the [[https://rain.thecomicseries.com/characters/ official character page]] such as their ages.
* In ''Webcomic/{{Rascals}}'', Rascals Goyoku explains the ninja backstories of all the bunny characters and later Talon and their former master.
* In ''{{Webcomic/Roommates}}'' the artist comments basically count as part of the pages, there are also explanatory journal entries (the ''Such Stuff...'' arc had a dedicated FAQ), an author tumbler blog and comment sections / forum where (s)he answers reader questions. Also the closest thing the series has for character bios is the subpage on this very wiki and if you want background... well, you're free to read/watch the [[MegaCrossover source materials]].
* While not strictly essential, you'll have a much clearer idea about what is going on in ''Webcomic/SailorSun'' if you read the supplementary sections of the website. In particular the FanFic section which is where the story started.
* ''Webcomic/SamuraiPrincess'' has some smaller info like character ages that are not mentioned in story on the cast page.
* ''Webcomic/SchlockMercenary'' has had several conversations and references to other events which are only explained in extra stories in the print versions of the story. The author has ''kindly'' pointed this out.
* The about page for ''Webcomic/{{Shadownova}}'' shows several characters' full names and other extra details about them. It also reveals several plot points which the actual storyline (It's still fairly new) [[FirstEpisodeTwist hasn't addressed yet.]]
* ''Webcomic/Shameless2012'': WordOfGod promises to explain any vague things or things that otherwise aren't delved into in-comic. This includes characters' backstories, as well as extra characters' personalities.
* {{Webcomic/Shortpacked}} features a lot of characters that have been introduced in other webcomics by the same author, and the strip treats them as if the reader were familiar with them, which is somewhat problematic for those who don't read any other comics from the Walkyverse. While this is technically true for every other webcomic in the Walkyverse, it's far more prominent here due to Shortpacked's nature. Since SP is more oriented to pop-culture and many if not most of its comics don't require any kind of continuity to be understood, it's the one that appeals the most to casual readers, who might be turned off by the sudden need of a history lesson.
* ''{{Webcomic/Sire}}'' uses vote incentives for those who click the Topwebcomics link. These feature profiles of the characters and have informed of who the Sire/Dam of certain characters are before being revealed in the comic. Some of these profiles are still available on the author's Website/DeviantArt page. The biggest pieces of information given so far are that Johanna is the Mrs. Lovett-Child and that Emile's inherited skill from Jarvert is ImprobableAimingSkills.
* ''Webcomic/SleeplessDomain'': Anemone, the enigmatic FourthWallObserver who usually appears in [[{{Intermission}} interstitial pages]], is only named by the comic's character page and tags. She {{lampshade|Hanging}}s this in her character bio, where she grumbles that "maybe someday it'll be in this stupid comic." [[spoiler:Years later, she finally gets her wish when the Purple One refers to her by name.]]
* ''Webcomic/SluggyFreelance'' has some background information that's available only to "Defenders of the Nifty" (the strip's membership program), including the secret history of Agent Rammer and what exactly [[LesYay Aylee groping Zoe's breasts looked like]].
* ''Webcomic/SnowByNight'' has an extensive almanac that deals with commerce, people, culture, places, history and science and updates on a weekly basis.
* Schtein in ''Webcomic/StringTheory2009'' had a formspring account (now inactive), where he discussed a lot of his past weeks before it was really talked about in the main comic.
* The author of ''Webcomic/SunsetGrill'' has a whole page dedicated to WorldBuilding filled with notes about the history, city and culture from the comics and the FAQ page fills in a lot of gaps.
* ''Webcomic/SupernormalStep'' has all the main characters' full names, heights, weights, etc. revealed in the author's reference sheets.
* ''Webcomic/ATaleOfFiction'' makes use of one of the characters' laptops as an in-universe depository of lore, maps and other data relevant to the story, as well as another in-universe webcomic and blog. More content is added as the characters restore more of the damaged hard drive or stumble across new websites.
* ''Webcomic/{{Terra}}'' features a decent-size [[http://www.terra-comic.com/codex codex]] explaining various details of setting and backstory not covered in the comic.
* ''Webcomic/TrueVillains'' has a [[http://www.truevillains.com/bios/index.php cast page]] that explains backgrounds, as well as gives the (very shocking!) ages of the main characters.
* The history of the Blackridge family (as well as the roots of their feud with the Cunninghams) in ''Webcomic/TruLifeAdventures'' were provided in a posting to the strip's MessageBoard. Said message did not survive the transition to a different board platform.
* ''Webcomic/UniversalCompass'' has a lot of this in the comments below the webcomic page due to the complexity of the plot.
* ''Webcomic/{{Unsounded}}'': Ashley will give candid and sometimes quite detailed answers to non-spoiler reader questions, [[https://unsoundedcomic.tumblr.com/post/654543705066389504/thank-you-for-this-amazing-comic-glass-re-the lists of Tanish words]] and translations to Tanish that aren't given in comic, character names [[https://unsoundedcomic.tumblr.com/post/661609955226484736/what-is-the-name-of-the-surviving-teen-inak-i Waumsresh,]] and puts up occasional short stories like the one explaining where [[https://unsoundedcomic.tumblr.com/post/667036818651398144/so-sorry-if-this-has-been-asked-before-im-pretty Starfish picked up his nickname.]]
* ''Webcomic/{{Waterworks}}'' has information not revealed in the comic on the author's blog.
* ''Webcomic/WhiteDarkLife'' is updated rather slowly, but the role plays shared by cartoonist pommyman and good friend Luigifan actually reveal some information on certain characters.
* In ''Webcomic/YokokasQuest'', details such as Yokoka and Mao's [[UniversalPoison immunity to poison]], Yokoka's Moon Clan allegiance, Yokoka and Grace's elements, and so on, are detailed on the between-chapter status screens long before they become relevant to the comics.
* ''Webcomic/{{Zoophobia}}'': Character sheets and WordOfGod tend to explain and expand on characters and concepts in the comic.
