* The titular Rose in ''VisualNovel/SevenDaysOfRose'' comes from a rich family and gets along well with her brother, but their parents are among the most loveless, uncaring people the hero has ever met: They publicly belittle their children and practically forbid them from speaking to each other due to considering Rose to be a "bad influence," treat anyone and everyone they consider "beneath" them as servants, and have no qualms about flaunting their wealth and position over everybody. It's no small wonder that, as revealed at the end of the story, [[spoiler:eighteen years of such treatment drive Rose to try and kill herself]].
* ''Franchise/AceAttorney'':
** In ''VisualNovel/GyakutenKenji2'', we have [[spoiler:Sebastian Debeste's father Blaise, who throws down the mental abuse on him. It's subverted at first in which Sebastian is unaffected by the words because he's used to it, but then later double subverted when [[BreaktheCutie his father outright tells him that everything he worked for from his grades to his awards was because his father had made personal connections to allow his son to make it to the top]]]]. By default he seems to really get along well with his son, always teasing him in a manner that is clearly affectionate and sometimes even making comments that lead Edgeworth to think he is a [[DotingParent doting dad]]. [[spoiler:Once Sebastian messes up with his plans, however, he is willing to call him every name to get him to follow his orders. This repressive attitude towards his son, combined with how he has been deceiving him (about his real grades and his father’s crimes) for the entirety of his life makes Blaise not so conventionally "abusive", but more accurately he's being too ''controlling'' in a way that he does not take Sebastian's real well-being into consideration.]]
*** Both Isaac Dover and [[spoiler: his killer Dane Gustavia]] from the same game. They were competitive chefs in a culinary tournament where the winner would receive the coveted Angel's Recipe. [[spoiler: Gustavia lost his sense of taste, So he made his son Simon Keyes taste the desserts for him. Unfortunately, they wanted to both win at any cost, and when Gustavia killed Dover, he didn't give his son a second thought and left him in an orphanage of fear. Dover himself asked his son Horace Knightley to tie up Keyes and locked them in a frozen shut car where both boys WOULD have died had it not been for a certain blind assassin. After this is revealed, the BigBad does not take it well. Especially when Edgeworth compares him to [[IAmNotMyFather his father.]]]]
** ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneySpiritOfJustice'' gives us [[spoiler:Queen Ga'ran of Khura'in.]] While her husband was much more loving, [[spoiler: the Queen neglected and verbally abused her adopted daughter/niece Rayfa and even went so far as to call her worthless before implying that she'd be willing to have her killed.]]
** VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneyDualDestinies: Subverted with Athena's mother. She seemed to be rather neglectful and uncaring (at least in Athena's eyes), but she truly loved her daughter.
* The ''Franchise/DanganRonpa'' series is filled with [[BrokenAce Broken Aces]] with [[DarkAndTroubledPast troubled backstories]] with parental abuse or neglect popping up every so often.
** [[LonelyRichKid Byakuya Togami]] from ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc'' comes from a long line of affluent businessmen who [[CorruptCorporateExecutive saw their children as tools to increase their prestige]] and forced them to fight amongst each other to earn their status as heir to the proverbial "throne"; [[InadequateInheritor the losers were exiled from the family]]. The closest thing to a friend he had growing up was his butler.
** [[SourOutsideSadInside Toko Fukawa]] from ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc'' lived in a polygamic household with one father and two mothers, all of whom hated her and wanted her dead; both women had children simultaneously by the same man and one of the children died -- the hospital lost track of whose baby was whose, and since neither mother wanted to claim the living child as theirs, they decided to split the difference. The cumulative abuse led her to develop a SplitPersonality and a deep mistrust of others, and the time she spent locked in a closet for three days without food led to a pathological fear of the dark.
** ''VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair'''s [[ByronicHero Nagito Komaeda]] implies this, as he states that no one ever complimented his appearance, "not even [his] own mother". Despite this his relationship with them doesn't seem to have been as bad as the other examples, as he considers the death of his parents to be one of the downsides of his [[UnluckilyLucky talent]].
** Akane Owari in ''2'' came from a poor family with unemployed parents who would "always change" and was frequently sexually harassed by her "mother"'s lovers [[InnocentFanserviceGirl to the point where she was conditioned to see it as normal]].
** [[GadgeteerGenius Kazuichi Soda]] in ''2'' would casually discuss being beaten by his father at times.
** [[TheDon Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu]] [[spoiler: and his adoptive sister/ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend [[MasterSwordsman Peko Pekoyama]]]] in ''2'' came from a family of {{Yakuza}}. Fuyuhiko was TheUnfavorite of the family for being [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold a genuinely good person]] as he was viewed as being too "soft" to run the clan, and mentioned being caught in the crossfire whenever his parents fought to the point of having been almost killed several times. [[spoiler: Peko, on the other hand, was dehumanized by them and raised to see herself as nothing more than a weapon to protect him.]]
** Mikan Tsumiki in ''2'' was physically, emotionally, and possibly sexually abused by people in her family and mentioned being burned with cigarettes on occasion.
* ''VisualNovel/DokiDokiLiteratureClub'': It is heavily implied that [[{{Tsundere}} Natsuki]] is physically abused and neglected by her father.
* Matsuri, Aoba and Jun's parents in ''VisualNovel/FamilyProject''. Jun's are probably the worst. [[spoiler:Her father molested her and her sister since they were small children for years until a neighbor noticed and they got taken away. Their mother? Envious. So she starved them for days on end and then would feed them horrible things. Like flat out ''poison'' to Jun, which nearly killed her and prevents her from eating anything but snack bars and drinks.]]
* ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'':
** Zouken Matou's treatment of his [[spoiler:adopted]] granddaughter [[spoiler:Sakura]]. While [[spoiler:Zouken subjects her "only" to TrainingFromHell and the Matou crest worms]], her stepbrother [[spoiler:Shinji]] rapes her repeatedly. The twisted part is that Zouken's treatment of [[spoiler:Sakura]] is a sign of ''favoritism'' because it's meant to [[spoiler:nurture her magical potential]]. The only reason he doesn't subject [[spoiler:Shinji]] to it is because the latter lacks that potential and thus isn't worth the effort -- and [[spoiler:Shinji]] is painfully aware of this. Hence his treatment of [[spoiler:Sakura (not that it justifies it in any way whatsoever).]]
** [[spoiler:Sakura]]'s adoptive uncle Kariya Matou was a victim of the same sort of [[spoiler:TrainingFromHell via the crest worms, partially because Zouken liked to watch him suffer.]]
* ''VisualNovel/TheFruitOfGrisaia'':
** Yuuji's [[spoiler:father despised him for his mellow personality and not living up to his genius sister, which even meant physical abuse, after their family's collapse it is implied that his father caused her mother's death.]]
** Yumiko's [[spoiler:father [[ParentalNeglect never quite got to]] the abuse part in the past, however on her route, he hired crimminals to lead a harassment campaign against Yumiko, aiming to force her into cooperation, with the ultimate goal of turning her into the same empty husk of a human person that he is, whose sole reason of existence is to propagte the aggressive expansion of the the company, at any cost. Originally his grandfather was like this, who is actually responsible for turning him into this type of person in the first place, also giving him the objective of doing the same to his own offsprings, when the time comes.]]
** Makina's [[spoiler:[[PsychopathicManchild psychopathic]] mother only [[ParentalNeglect didn't care about her]] in the past, aside from ordering the assassination of her father for trying to come clean of the corrupted family. On her route however Makina herself becomes a liability to the family, so her mother promptly orders her assassination. After Makina gets captured falling into a coma from multiple gunshots, her mother, after being certain that Makina will never be useful, loudly ponders if she should just unplug her life support systems, and use her organs to save the life of her still useful sister, whose in a critical state from an independent assassination attempt.]]
* In ''VisualNovel/HeartOfTheWoods'', Evelyn Fischer is this to her daughter Morgan. She repeatedly belittles and talks down to Morgan, and controls every aspect of her life, from the way she dresses to how she wears her hair. [[spoiler:Her ultimate goal is to break Morgan's spirit in order to eventually possess her body, the same way she possessed Morgan's real mother.]]
* ''VisualNovel/HighSchoolStory'' has Book 1 of its Class Act spinoff show that Skye's parents are the emotionally abusive kind. Because she sat on the Berry side of the football game instead of Hearst to support her JerkJock brother Brian, they said she could walk home. Bailey catching this little fight lets them learn that Skye is the little sister of the town pariah.
* ''VisualNovel/HigurashiWhenTheyCry'':
** While really more of an Abusive Uncle, Teppei Hojo definitely fits this trope. He beats Satoko and forces her to do chores for him, threatening to burn down her beloved brother's room if she doesn't comply. [[spoiler:It's revealed later on that he's also a pimp, and is engaged in a fraud scheme with one of his working girls (Rina Mamiya) to scam half a million yen out of Rena's father.]] Teppei's fate changes in each of the three arcs he appears in, and none of them are pretty. He is [[spoiler:murdered by Keiichi in Tatarigoroshi-hen]]; [[spoiler:murdered by Rena in Tsumihoroboshi-hen]]; [[spoiler:murdered by Rena, Keiichi, and Shion (all together) in Tsukiotoshi-hen]]; and [[spoiler:arrested by Child Services in Minagoroshi-hen.]]
** Though she is rarely mentioned, Satoko's aunt behaved in a similar manner. It didn't end well for her.
** Also Oryou Sonozaki as an abusive grandmother, especially to Shion. Planned on strangling her before her first bath, discards her by shipping her off to boarding school, and then decides to [[{{ColdBloodedTorture}} torture her]] just for [[{{DisproportionateRetribution}} being with the son of a man ostracized by the village]] by making her rip off her own fingernails to "atone". It comes as no surprise that Shion hates her (anything that reminds her of Oryou is a BerserkButton as seen in the cancelled Reality Breaking chapter). When Shion snaps [[spoiler:due to the [[HatePlague Hate Plague]] ]] in the Cotton Drifting and Eye Opening chapters, Oryou becomes her first victim albeit unintentionally, as she wanted to interrogate her about the whereabouts of her disappeared loved one but died instantly from her stun gun due to her old age. Doesn't help that all the adults in the village hate the Houjous just because Oryou willed it and think Satoshi was deservedly killed by the Sonozaki family, including Shion's own beloved uncle Kimiyoshi which absolutely breaks her heart. [[{{SarcasmMode}} Best Grandmom ever.]]
* ''VisualNovel/KaraNoShoujo'' had Shinji's parents and Yaginuma's father.
* Jigoro Hakamichi, Shizune and Hideaki's father, of ''VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo''. He not only frequently insults his children, Shizune's friends and the student council, but also has refused to learn sign language to speak with his deaf daughter, and has tried for 12 years to get Shizune to learn how to speak, unwilling to accept that she is unable to do so.
* ''VisualNovel/MinotaurHotel'': Storm's mom treated him like everyone else in the Hinterlands, which was like a monster. Storm then ran away from home several times before meeting P. Notably if you go to Storm's house after he's obtained the charm, [[spoiler:Storm's mother won't even mention Storm. P is understandably concerned for Storm, but he tells him that it doesn't matter anymore.]]
* Enju Ueno, the heroine of ''VisualNovel/{{Nightshade}}'', and her father, Kando, barely have any relationship at all, let alone a familial one; a large part of her desire to become a shinobi is to finally gain her father's approval. [[spoiler: In every route of the game, Kando immediately disowns Enju after she's framed for a crime she didn't commit in order to avoid any potential backlash against the village, and in some routes he forces her childhood friends to hunt her down with orders to kill her on sight. To make it worse, in one route it's confirmed that he himself committed the crime Enju was accused of, although he didn't actually have any part in framing her.]]
* ''VisualNovel/NoThankYou'': One of the main cases in the game involves finding a little girl's missing mother. [[spoiler:It turns out her mom had left her to die.]] Another case has a young man asking you to find his brother and send him home [[spoiler:so that their mother might molest him less.]] Many of the main characters suffered abuse or neglect at the hands of their parents/parental figures, [[spoiler:most notably the protagonist who's forced into a life of murder, torture, rape, et cetera et cetera as a slave... until he's promoted (to doing all that stuff as a lackey) after winning his father's version of ''Literature/TheHungerGames'')]].
* ''VIsualNovel/{{Penthos}}'': [[spoiler: In his Echo Story, Amadeus Geoff describes the abuse he and his brother suffered at the hands of their father, including only beating them on their legs and arms so they could the bruises under their clothing.]]
* In ''VisualNovel/RiddleJoker'' the protagonist's [[NotBloodSiblings adopted sister]] Nanami has birth parents that were nasty pieces of work. They resented her for being an Astral (superhuman) so she tried to help her dad in his work, becoming a skilled programmer and hacker in the process. Her parents responded by still treating her like dirt but now exploiting her skills for criminal endeavours. When they were caught they threw Nanami under the bus and claimed she did it all herself. Thankfully after that she was adopted and things got a lot better.
* Grave from ''VisualNovel/SymphonicRain'' who physically abuses his daughter [[spoiler: Lise]] just because her singing reminds him of [[spoiler: his wife who left him for a singer]].
* In ''VisualNovel/ShiningSongStarnova'', Aki’s mother Yumiko is a controlling and emotionally manipulative StageMom who plays up her own hardships to make Aki work harder at becoming an IdolSinger. She’s implied to monitor Aki’s emails and social media; she pressures Aki to do whatever it takes to succeed, no matter how harmful or degrading; and she once beat Aki for [[spoiler:running away from her producer when he tried to molest her, jeopardizing her career]].
* Ava Crescentia from ''VisualNovel/{{Sunrider}}'' had a complicated relationship with her father. A strict military man, his career often took him away from home for long periods of time, leaving a teenaged Ava to fend for herself. When he ''was'' home, he showed little affection to his daughter and would discipline Ava for her failures, constantly urging her to work harder. The ''Sunrider Academy'' spinoff shows that this discipline would sometimes involve handcuffing Ava and beating her with a rod. For better or worse, his parenting shaped Ava into the [[AloofDarkHairedGirl aloof]] and uptight {{workaholic}} that she is today, though Ava herself bears him no ill will.
* Implied in ''VisualNovel/WeKnowTheDevil'': Jupiter was sent to this homophobic Christian camp, likely to be 'fixed', she mentions being too slow for her mother, and in the Red Ending it's stated her mother taught her not to touch others out of politeness. These subtle signs point to Jupiter's mother being emotionally abusive and/or neglectful.
* ''VisualNovel/WillAWonderfulWorld'': Park Sang-Gun, whose first event is him as a child, dealing with his drunk father attempting to strangle his mother to death. [[spoiler:However, Sang-Gun's version of events might not match reality, due to mental issues caused by his ''mother''.]]
* ''VisualNovel/UminekoWhenTheyCry'':
** Rosa Ushiromiya has a very troubled relationship with her daughter Maria; when she isn't being [[MamaBear extremely protective]] or overindulging her, she's slapping her across the face and yelling at her.
** Rosa herself was on the receiving end of this trope along with her older siblings, and their father, Kinzo, makes his disdain of his own children quite clear several times in the series. [[spoiler:And although he wasn't disdainful towards his illegitimate daughter Beatrice Ushiromiya, he deluded himself into thinking she was her mother and his beloved mistress reincarnated, leading to him [[ParentalIncest raping her and getting her pregnant]].]]
