* Played with in Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer where Willow and Tara's cat is named "Miss Kitty Fantastico".
* In the Series/Bunkd episode "Lava at First Sight", the cat Destiny finds is revealed to have the name Mrs. Kitty. Lampshaded by Matteo who sarcastically asked the cat's owner if she took two seconds to name her cat.
* On Series/TheCloser, Brenda simply calls her inherited cat Kitty.
* Inspector Series/Columbo has a basset hound named Dog. While the pooch had NoNameGiven during the series's run, as the staff couldn't agree on one, "Dog" was later accepted retroactively as the character's official name, as that's what Columbo called him on-screen in the absence of a name. In "The Most Dangerous Match" he tells a hotel sanitation worker that the dog hasn't liked any of the names he's tried to give it.
* The Lass family in Series/DeadLikeMe adopts J.D. without knowing the meaning of his initials. Reggie decides it's "Just Dog".
* Series/DoctorWho has a RobotDog named K9, overlapping with RobotNames. The spinoff P.R.O.B.E. went one step further and had a box-shaped TalkingApplianceSidekick called… Box.
* Series/EmeraldCitys incarnation of Dorothy Gale's canine companion Toto takes his name from the Munja'kin word for "dog."
* In Series/GoodOmens2019, Adam names the Hellhound, whose name is meant to define its evil purpose, Dog.
* Somehow comically averted in Series/GossipGirl, since Chuck's dog gets named Monkey".
* Series/ItsABigBigWorld: Downplayed. Oko's fly friend is named Tsetse, which is a species of fly.
* Series/JAG: The dog Admiral Chegwidden adopts in the season nine episode "Empty Quiver" is named Dammit, because that was the only expression to which it would pay attention.
* Series/HospitalPlaylist: There are occasional references to a fancy steakhouse across the street from Yulje Hospital; Min-ha's plans for a romantic date there are ruined in the second-season premiere when Seok-hyung cancels (she eats two entrees by herself), and Joon-wan meets Ik-soon there for dinner in episode 2.10. The steakhouse across the street is actually named "The Steakhouse in Front of the Hospital".
* Series/KCUndercover: K.C. and her family work at a spy organization called "The Organization".
* The robot in Series/LostInSpace answers to "Robot", even among those who consider it family and best friend.Its full designation is "Class M3 Model B9 General Utility Non-Theorizing Environmental Control Robot", or in short, M3-B9 G.U.N.T.E.R..
* All four characters Series/MagicMountain are a Lion, Panda, Tortoise and a Dragon all respectively named Lion. Panda, Tortoise and Dragon.
* Series/MillionYenWomen: Shin's housemates can't agree on a name for their new cat, so they decide to take turns calling their name of choice to see to which one it responds. When it doesn't work, they let Shin give it a try. Shin is uninspired and just calls it "Cat", to which it responds.
* "Horse" from Series/Monkey. "Horse" is really a dragon named Yu Lung, but everyone just calls him "Horse".
* The old Nickelodeon sketch show Out Of Control once had a segment with wacky pet names. At the end of this segment, the show's resident heckler scoffed at the different pet names and explained to the audience that his dog is simply named "Dog" and, likewise, his cat is just named "Cat."
* In Series/Peacemaker2022, the ARGUS agents all mock the title character after they find out his pet eagle is named Eagly.
* The small terrier with apparently human intellect from Series/PetticoatJunction was called just "The Dog". During a courtroom scene, he took the bench (seriously!) after being referred to as "John Doe Dog".
* The Polka Dot Door: Most of the toys have real names, but the teddy bear is just called Bear. The Polkaroo is either this or PokemonSpeak.
* Series/PowerRangersSPD has Kat Manx, Fowler Birdie, and Sergeant Silverback, who are both aliens that resemble anthropomorphic animals that match their names. Anubis Cruger, who looks like a dog, is also called by the nickname "Doggie" (in Series/TokusouSentaiDekaranger, he actually was named Doggie Kruger.) Piggy, however, is a subversion; he doesn't really look like a pig.
* Series/RaisedByWolves2020:
** The androids who act as mother and father to the atheist children are named Mother and Father.
** Paul decides to name his mouse "Mouse." Caleb finds this odd, but doesn't say anything.
* Series/Readalong: The cast included a boot named Boot, a haunted house called Haunted House, and a hole called Hole. Of course, it didn't apply to everyone in the cast, case in point, Pretty the Shoe.
* "Cat" from Series/RedDwarf. Played with as Cat is actually a HumanAlien that evolved from domestic housecats. The Novelization explains that he finds the concept of a name hard to grasp; it would suggest that people don't already know who he is.
* Big Bird on Series/SesameStreet is a big bird.
* Franchise/StarTrek:
** Every member of the Q Continuum is just called "Q". They can tell each other apart somehow.
** The Emergency Medical Hologram in Series/StarTrekVoyager never found a better name than "Doctor". That's not just EverybodyCallsHimBarkeep: being a Doctor is more than what the EMH does, it's what he is (though he eventually learns to transcend his programming).
*** In a future (subsequently erased) timeline, he has chosen the name Joe. To Tom Paris's disdain.
* He's eventually re-named to Riot, but the Australian Shepherd Sam hits with the Impala in Season 8 of Series/Supernatural is initially just called Dog.
* In Series/The10thKingdom there's Wolf. Though he's a human/wolf hybrid.
* In the premiere episode of the final season of Series/TwentyFour, Jack Bauer asks his granddaughter if she's given a name to the stuffed bear he got her at the zoo - she says that he's "Bear."
* Series/TheWalkingDead: During the TimeSkip in season 9, Daryl Dixon has taken in a Belgian Malinois named "Dog", who becomes his hunting companion and sentry.
* Played with in one episode of Series/WizardsOfWaverlyPlace. They get a dog named Dragon, but it's actually a dragon magically disguised as a dog.
* Series/YoungSheldon: When Sheldon gets a pet fish, he names it Fish because he doesn't want to be too attached.
