* ''VisualNovel/HigurashiWhenTheyCry'' falls victim to this. Keiichi and Tomitake's hair is brown, unusual for a full Japanese person, while Satoko, her immediate family, and Takano are all blonds (more unusual). Rena and Irie has orange hair, Rika and Chie have blue hair for no adequately explored reason, and the Sonozaki family women have green hair. Naturally, no one ever comments on any of this.

Naturally, no one ever comments on any of this. The LiveActionAdaptation gives them all natural hair colors.

* Subverted in ''Manga/KoeNoKatchi''. Most official art gives Shouko pinkish red hair, however her canon color is actually dark brown. The artworm is simply stylized. Played straight in the anime film adaptation, as her hair color really is pinkish red.

** Link in one of the manga for ''VideoGame/ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink'' has pink hair, instead of the brown hair he has in the game.

* Only two of the major characters in '' Anime/MaiHiME'' have anything resembling normal hair colors for a show set in [[MiddleOfNowhereStreet Middle of Nowhere Town]], Japan -- Yukino (brown) and Mikoto (black, with pigtails and gold eyes). Naturally, there's also a blue-haired character in the mix, Miyu -- but [[spoiler:she's an android]], so she [[JustifiedTrope has an excuse]].
** Natsuki may also qualify as having "normal" hair -- it's dark blue in the anime, but the supplemental materials describe it as being black, so she most likely simply falls under "stylized black hair".
*** On the cover of the manga's second volume, Natsuki is shown with black hair.

** Sakura, who has pink hair (and ThemeNaming based upon her hair colour). And it's apparently ''natural'', unless she's going to the trouble of dying her ''eyebrows''. If not for her, it would fit possibly into plausible hair due to the show not being set in Japan (even though everyone ''is'' culturally Japanese).

** [[spoiler:Hinata]]'s daughter Himawari has blue hair, like her [[spoiler:mother]].

* The IdolSinger Nyaa Hashimoto from ''Anime/OsomatsuSan'' has bright pink hair. It's heavily implied to be dyed, as the series uses realistic hair colors.
* Subverted with Aiko from ''Manga/OyasumiPunpun''. Artwork has shown her with a myriad of different colors ranging from green to red, however her canon color is a mundane brown.

She originally had [[http://netkun.com/pockemon/gallery/big_img/gallery01.html brown]] [[http://netkun.com/pockemon/gallery/big_img/gallery03.html hair]], but was [[http://netkun.com/pockemon/gallery/big_img/gallery05.html changed]] to [[http://netkun.com/pockemon/gallery/big_img/gallery07.html blue]] to match her game and anime counterparts. She changed back to brown recently though, which makes people wonder what will happen in the Heartgold/Soulsilver arc.. On the cover of an Emerald volume, her hair was brown, but an image at the end of the saga shows her with dark blue hair. As of HGSS, it stayed dark blue again. But really, either the artist really can't make up his mind or he's trollin' us. Seriously, every time there's a colored shot of her, her hair color changes. Even her first outfit was like this; her jacket would go between white and pink.
* Other ''Manga/{{Pokemon}}'' manga have their fair-share of this. ''Manga/PokemonReburst'' has a green haired protagonist. ''Manga/PokemonDiamondAndPearlAdventure'' has a blue haired primary protagonist and a green haired secondary one. ''Manga/PokemonGoldenBoys'' version of Kris has teal hair.

* The ''Franchise/PrettyCure'' series goes through this in ''spades''. While, with a few exceptions, those in ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure'' and ''Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureSplashStar'' have natural (or close to it) colors, after ''Anime/YesPrettyCure5'' the girls get widely colored hair, mostly in a wild case of color coordination. It's usually the girls who are Precures who get crazy hair colors, to single them out as special; normal characters tend to have normal colors. Also, the Precures' hair colors are fairly dull while in civillian form, only to brighten up when they transform.
** In case you're wondering about those who follow the "blue hair" trope straight, it's [[Anime/YesPrettyCure5 Karen / Cure Aqua]], [[Anime/FreshPrettyCure Miki / Cure Berry]], [[Anime/HeartcatchPrettyCure Erika / Cure Marine]], [[Anime/SmilePrettyCure Reika / Cure Beauty]], [[Anime/DokiDokiPrettyCure Rikka / Cure Diamond]], [[Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure Hime / Cure Princess]] and [[Anime/GoPrincessPrettyCure Minami / Cure Mermaid]].

* The ''Anime/RevolutionaryGirlUtena'' anime has Utena and Mikage (both pink), Anthy (purple), Akio, Mamiya, and Dios (all lilac), Touga (bright red), Saionji (green), Miki, Kozue, and Ruka (all blue), Juri (orange), and Shiori (wine, or perhaps raspberry). Everyone else's hair color is...possible, as most people have brown hair, some have black, and some (notably and implausibly Touga's sister, Nanami) are blonde.
** Miki, Kozue, and Ruka all have different ''shades'' of blue hair (Ruka himself has two!), with Kanae's mother adding in yet another. Kanae herself, on the other hand, sometimes appears to have very bright green hair. Chigusa and the unnamed main character from the Sega Saturn game have cyan and magenta hair, respectively.
** The hair color is so they'll be properly color coordinated.

* ''Franchise/SailorMoon'' has characters with huge amounts of weird hair colors.
** In one of the [[Manga/SailorMoon manga]] side stories (and the [[Anime/SailorMoon anime]] special based on it), Chibi-Usa's new classmates actually point out that she has pink hair, which is apparently unusual from the characters' point of view. Makes one wonder if everyone else's hair colors are ''real'', and if so, why nobody finds them odd. Is it only pink that is considered weird?
** In the manga, Sailor Jupiter has curly auburn hair. In chapter five, when one of the teachers confronts her about it, she insists that it's natural.

weird? In the manga, Sailor Jupiter has curly auburn hair. In chapter five, when one of the teachers confronts her about it, she insists that it's natural. Makoto's brown hair is supposed to make her look like a JapaneseDelinquent, yet no one ever mentions Minako's or Usagi's blonde hair.

Added DiffLines:

** Rei's hair color changes depending on the adaptation. It's purple in the manga and ''Anime/SailorMoonCrystal'' and black in live action adaptations. In the 90s anime it varies due to DependingOnTheArtist. Sometimes it's black, sometimes black with purple highlights, and sometimes outright purple.

They [[NonstandardCharacterDesign stand out]] amongst the cast of mainly brown and black haired characters.

** The Vinsmokes are a ''family'' of royals with multi-colored hair, with only Judge and Sanji having hair that could even be considered remotely normal: Ichji has red hair, Niji's is deep blue, Yonji's is green and Reiju's is pink. On the other hand, Judge and Sanji just have simple blonde hair.

** The cast has more or less the normal range of hair colors, except for Rei's blue and Kaworu's gray. Then again, neither Rei nor Kaworu are fully human... It has been suggested by some fans that Rei and Kaworu may, as a result of genetic tampering, have albinism. It's a reasonable assumption (very pale skin, red eyes). Creator/HideakiAnno, however, insists that this was just to make them stand out against the other characters.
** Misato has dark purple hair, though that might be a case of HairColorDissonance.
** Bizarrely, ''The End of Evangelion'' reveals that [[spoiler:Unit 01]] has blue hair.

Creator/HideakiAnno, however, among fans that they're albinos - this is unlikely to be true, as neither show any signs of albinism, and Kaworu is shown to have eerily good eyesight as a hint as to his inhuman nature, whereas albinism is heavily associated with poor eyesight; it's more likely that this is an effect of them both [[spoiler: being the vessel of the soul of an ancient alien entity, Rei for Lilith, Kaworu for Adam]], and Creator/HideakiAnno insists that this was just to make them stand out against the other characters.

HairColorDissonance, meant to represent black hair; the odd thing here being that most other Japanese characters in the show have realistic black or brown hair, ignoring Ritsuko, who dyes hers, begging the question as to why hers wasn't just depicted as such, when it's clearly not dyed and unlike Rei's, is never noted as odd in-universe.
