* ArtShiftedSequel / ArtEvolution: It seems that there has been some change in the art, mostly in the coloring.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Is Hachiman someone whose Zen-like mentality is something to be inspired by, or is he a petty, narcissistic person who is out of touch with reality?
* BaseBreaker: Hachiman himself tends to have split opinions on how he's supposed to be viewed as a character. At least some fans still see him as being right in what he does. Other fans see someone whose methods are supposed to be heavily criticized and deconstructed(especially in the second season). There's a middle ground who sees him as sympathetic but not necessarily right.
* BrokenBase: Over which subtitle group is superior between Commie and Crunchyroll. While Commie is a speedsub group known for often inserting memes into their subtitles and having questionable translations, a lot of fans feel their subtitles for Season 2 are actually superior to Crunchyroll's, due to CR's translations often being more literal and not as closely following the Light Novels' dialogue. In particular, their translations for the scene between Yukino and Hachiman in Eepisode 7 and the "genuine"/"real thing" speech in Episode 8 have received some flak.
** Yukino's scene in Episode 9 was also seen by some as being relatively underwhelming compared to Yui and Iroha's scenes, despite being arguably the most notable scene in that chapter in the light novel. Other people think it's fine the way it is.
* EarWorm: The first season opening theme, [[https://soundcloud.com/argaplek/nagi-yanagi-yukitoki-oregairu "Yukitoki"]], and the closing theme, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om3yizBGGn0 "Hello Alone"]] have some nice tunes to them.
** The variations of the S1 ending theme, [[https://soundcloud.com/kuristina/02-hello-alone-yui-ballade-nao "Hello Alone -Yui Ballade-"]] and [[https://soundcloud.com/sirreyga/hello-alone-band-arrange "Hello Alone -Band arrange-"]] are excellent as well.
** Season 2 busts out a new round of songs with Nagi Yanagi's new and excellent opening theme [[https://soundcloud.com/cao-quoc/harumodoki-yahari-ore-no-seishun-love-come-wa-machigatteiru-zoku-opening "Harumodoki"]]. In addition to the new opening theme, Creator/SaoriHayami and Creator/NaoTouyama return for the ending song, [[https://soundcloud.com/rahadian-ega-mihawk/ending-oregairu-zoku-s2-yukino-yui-everyday-world "Everyday World"]] and its variations [[https://soundcloud.com/hasegawa-satoshi/everyday-world-hayami-saori-ballade-arrange "Everyday World -Ballade Arrange- Yukino Solo Ver."]] and [[https://soundcloud.com/noko-sage/everyday-world-yui-ballade-arrange "Everyday World -Ballade Arrange- Yui Solo Ver."]].
* EscapistCharacter: Averted for the male protagonist so far in a harem sense. Somewhat unusual given the genre.
** He is still an escapist character in a Zen way: he gives no damn about the world and calmly lives his existence unhindered by and unhindering nobody. And he makes a strong point to others about his way of life.
** Though the escapism in that is still tampered by the realistic bouts of loneliness he faces due to being something of a social pariah by following his own philosophy (he even lampshades it once or twice). Bouts that come along as often as not (though perhaps it's more frequent in the anime).
** Averted with Hayato as well. At first, he seems like the ideal EscapistCharacter. He's popular, the ladies love him, talented in sports and academics, and he's a NiceGuy to top it off. But he's actually a BrokenAce and is more flawed than people think.
* FanPreferredCouple: Most of the artists from {{Pixiv}} are fond of [[LesYay [=Yui/Yukino=]]].
** At [[{{Imageboards}} 4chan]], [[StudentTeacherRomance [=Hachiman/Shizuka=]]] is likely the most popular pairing.
* FanNickname: On [[{{Imageboards}} 4chan]], Hachiman Hikigaya is better known as the 8man, Hikki, Batman, (The) Dark Knight or some combination.
** [[MemeticMutation Which tends to result in Hachiman getting photoshopped to look like Batman in most screen shots he's in.]]
* HoYay: Hachiman and Saika.
** Also Hachiman and Hayato, both in-universe (thanks to [[YaoiFangirl Hina's]] wild imagination) and in real life (apparently, Pixiv artists liked the idea a bit too much).
* JerkassWoobie: Both Hachiman and Yukino. Despite their abrasive personalities and cynical outlook on the world, they're both fundamentally lonely people who had to deal with isolation, rejections and bullying.
* LesYay: Yukino and Yui.
* MemeticMutation: Yandere Yui after the Season 2.
* MisaimedFandom: Some fans see Hachiman as a rightfully cynical AntiHero who is almost always correct in his observations of others. This ignores the fact that he often is called out for his methods and over-generalizations of others.
** Similarly, the audience often takes Hayama's reputation as a nice guy at face value(which Hachiman does at times as well). While he has admirable attributes, it's made clear in the novels that he's flawed(if not as much as Hachiman).
* SleeperHit: Overlooked at first due to mediocre animation and being labelled as harem romance comedy. Highly appraised later by virtue of great characters and thorough exploration of their psychology and motivations.
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Hachiman himself is an antisocial loner barely acknowledged by the rest of his classmates, but is considered one of the best light novel protagonists in recent years.
* {{Woolseyism}}: Title change to "My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU". Short, snarky and precise.

** Though the escapism in that is still tampered by the realistic bouts of loneliness he faces due to being something of a social pariah by following his own philosophy (he even lampshades it once or twice). Bouts that come along as often as not. (Though perhaps it's more frequent in the anime.)
