* {{Fanon}}: The strategy guide gives Emeralda's the surname "Kasim" after her "father", Kim Kasim. Official materials don't usually follow suit. Fan materials, however, frequently do. Probably because the other official materials [[NoExportForYou aren't available outside of Japan]].

Probably because the other official materials [[NoExportForYou aren't available outside of Japan]]. During the game, Karellen (Krelian in the English localization) appears with blonde-colored hair. In the Nisan flashback scenes, however, he has midnight [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair blue-colored hair]]. The hair color change is never explained in the game or in [[AllThereInTheManual Perfect Works]] leading to a few theories to explain it with the most common one being that his hair changed color presumably as the result of {{Nanomachines}} prolonging his life.

* EarWorm: It's probably a good thing that the Yggdrasil theme is so catchy, because boy are you going to be hearing it a lot over the course of the game.

*** Well, aside from proving that aside from the two people Id killed (Id sees in red, Redrum sees in green), the other friends of Rico were just killed by a monster.

Added DiffLines:

*** Krelian's lab to most people is difficult not because of the length or encounters, but because since it's all very samey-looking hallways, it's extremely easy to be running in circles for over an hour.

** The idea of combining mechs with martial arts came from the fact that Takahashi was a ''really'' big fan of G Gundam.

* FollowTheLeader: It's the story of angst-ridden protagonist sucked into circumstances he barely even understands who hates mechs and fighting, and is prone to going on destructive rampages with his mech. The game also has tons of ContemplateOurNavels and vague foreshadowing, an [[TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness Omniscient Council of Vagueness]] and an [[spoiler:AssimilationPlot]]. [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Does any of this sound familiar?]]
** The two even share some of the same animators (both being animated by Creator/ProductionIG), which is why cutscenes resemble Evangelion's art style. It's also unclear exactly how much got its influence from ''Evangelion'' and how much was coincidental[[note]]Seeing how the game was originally planned to be ''Final Fantasy VII'', and presumably was created before the whole detective in New York thing, placing it in 1994~, which means development started around the same time as ''Evangelion''.[[/note]]
** Some of it may be a coincidence, as Takahashi was apparently interested in HumongousMecha and religion since childhood.

* ExecutiveMeddling: The supposed events behind the scenes of this game are some of the most notorious in videogame history. As the stories go, halfway through the game's development, SquareSoft took a big chunk of the development team out of working the game to work on ''Videogame/FinalFantasyVIII''. This explains the game's extremely linear and narration-heavy second disc. [[WhatCouldHaveBeen Many fans speculate the game would have been even more of an epic classic had the development team not been castrated this way.]]

* CanonSue: Citan. Fortunately, [[TropesAreNotBad this doesn't damage the game much]].

* MarySue: The amount of intricate planning that seems nigh-impossible to fully flesh out, plus the fact that he ''never'' loses and in fact gets exactly what he wants in the end, despite every horrible thing he took part in, and is forgiven by Fei and Elly in the end, Krelian can honestly come off as very much like a [[VillainSue particular type]] of Mary Sue.

* LateCharacterSyndrome: Emeralda. She joins the party ''very'' late, after the penultimate dungeon in the first disc, and can't be used at all in the very lengthy Solaris chapter, which means she can only have a serious presence in the second disc. While she's by no means a bad fighter, is capable of having high statistics after her PlotRelevantAgeUp, and is an even better mage than Elly, the fact that she comes in so late and has really no bearing on the plot means a lot of players never bother using her.
