* Misblamed: Although often referred to as a flop, and even one of the biggest failures in videogame history, in reality only the PC version sold particularly poorly on its initial release. The console versions actually sold pretty well, and even the PC version began selling a lot better (albeit at a significantly discounted price) when it was brought to Steam. Unfortunately though, even the console versions got overshadowed by the likes of VideoGame/Halo 3, which led to impressions that the series was yesterday's news.

* HarsherInHindsight:
** One of the Bonus Pack 2 maps from VideoGame/UnrealTournament2004, [=AS-BP2-Jumpship=], retells a story about a squad of Izanagi soldiers infiltrating Liandri space and hijack a jumpship in order to be able to make space jumps without the need of a gate. Fast forward to this game, and .
** 's first line in the final match. Until the free reboot, the series wouldn't see another installment for a long time.

* CriticalBacklash: Sure, it isn't Unreal Tournament or Unreal Tournament 2004, but Unreal Tournament III has received a lot of unfair [=misblaming=] for what it isn't rather for what it is.

* DidNotDoTheResearch: See the quote in the main page? YMMV if this is just a case of RetCon, or a mistake in Epic's part, but in the narration of the original Tournament game, it was the NEG who established said competitions, NOT Liandri. Although Liandri created the leagues proper, it was the NEG which started everything.

* FunnyMoments:
** The lampshade about Field Lattice Generators having flag forms. Bear in mind that this takes place in Act II's second level, CTF-Reflection:
--> Othello: We have the flag, let's bring it home.
--> Jester: You mean "Field Lattice Generator", right?
--> Reaper: It looks like a flag, waves like a flag - it's a flag.
** In the cutscene between acts II and III, when Reaper's teammates discuss the situation without him nearby:
--> Othello: [to Jester] You need to talk with your brother. He's like some nutcase on a holy war... [looks at Bishop] Uh. No offense.
--> Bishop: Infidel.
** The first mission of Act III takes place in DM-Arsenal. Cue this lampshade:
--> Bishop: Somehow, I question the logic of firing Rocket Launchers in an abandoned munitions plant.
--> Othello: That does sound dangerous.
--> Jester: More dangerous than not shooting back?

* GameplayDerailment: A lot of people complained that the vehicles derailed the fast gameplay of UT3, even when vehicles aren't available in common gametypes. (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag... well, there's just one exception, but still...)
