* TearJerker: When Gwen is forcefully (but well-intentionally) separated from Rhys and Anwen at Heathrow Airport.
** The look on Jack's face when Esther mentions her guilt over Rex's accident. You can practically ''see'' the faces of [[spoiler: Ianto, Tosh, Owen, Suzie, and Steven]] flash before his eyes.
** In the third episode, when Gwen and Jack are talking over the phone and she addresses the fact that if the Miracle had happened sooner, [[spoiler: Ianto]] would still be alive. Jack's response? To close his eyes and murmur, "I wish he were here now."
** The utter longing in Jack's voice and face when he [[spoiler: sits at Angelo's deathbed and talks about Ianto: "You would've liked him...You would've been jealous."]]
** [[spoiler:Watching Vera get immolated. Yeesh.]]
** [[spoiler:Watching Gwen and her mum saying goodbye to Gwen's father after he is found hiding.]]
** [[spoiler: Esther's death, and Rex being forced to let her die in order to save the world.]]
** [[spoiler: A tearful Rhys comforting Geraint as he wakes up from his coma and finally dies. Sadly, he doesn't die in the company of his wife or daughter.]]
** [[spoiler: While Rhys is sitting with Geraint in his last moments, Andy is doing the same for a teenaged "Jane Doe." A nurse had pointed out that Geraint was one of the lucky ones, as he still had family that cared for him.]]

* {{Padding}}: You can really tell at times that they didn't quite have enough story for ten episodes. In particular, you could lose most of episode 3 with no problems.

* {{Padding}}: You can really tell at times that they didn't quite have enough story for ten episodes. The series was originally conceived as a 5 or 6 episodes long miniseries like ''Children of Earth'', but the American Networks lobbied for 13-episodes so that the series can fill out the entire summer, in the end, ten episodes was settled on as a compromise. In particular, you could lose most of episode 3 with no problems.

* SeasonalRot: Debatable but widely considered this for Torchwood, with dropping ratings and more mixed reviews then "Children of Earth".

* CompleteMonster: Oswald Danes is a convicted [[WouldHurtAChild child rapist and killer]] whose defense in court was "she should have run faster." After surviving his execution due to becoming immortal (along with everyone else on Earth), he starts playing the media for forgiveness and seems well on his way to becoming a DarkMessiah. Throughout the season, it's implied that he does have some guilt over what he did and [[DeathSeeker wants to die]], only to reveal that he believes that he'll be able to torture his previous victim forever in Hell. His last words are to yell out that he's coming for her and that she should start running.

After surviving his execution due to becoming immortal (along with everyone else on Earth), he starts playing the media for forgiveness and seems well on his way to becoming a DarkMessiah. On top of that, throughout the season, it's implied that he does have some guilt over what he did and wants to die -- then the finale shows that these DeathSeeker qualities actually make him ''more'' of a monster, not less. Why? Because he seems to believe that when he dies, he'll be able to torture his previous victim forever in Hell -- in fact, his last words are to yell out that he's coming for her and that she should start running.
