* AuthorOnBoard: Marsden becomes a lot more overt in the ''Ellie Chronicles'' in using his characters as mouthpieces for political and philosophical ideas, and there are lots of references to (ie recommendations of) books and poems.
* CanonSue: [[http://www.rsimpson.id.au/books/tomorrow/characters/robyn.html Some sources]] point to the fact that Robin is the most explicitly based on a real person and has a touch of being "too nice", with her flaws being largely [[InformedFlaw informed]] rather than shown.

* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: When Ellie takes in the news that the feral children are going to be evacced...and realises how much she's bonded with them.
-->"How had I become so caught up in the lives of these little tackers? One minute, they'd been a hopeless nuisance, marching off on their own, getting lost, [[spoiler:causing Darina's death]]; the next minute, they had wound fifty metres of baling twine around my heart and pulled it so tight I wasn't sure I could survive the pain of losing them."

* DidNotDoTheResearch: The reason why the United States (and presumably the UK, though they are not mentioned) does not comply with its treaty obligations is because they are weary of another Vietnam. Vietnam turned out the way it did due to an actively hostile neighbour sharing the border with the defending nation and an active guerilla movement. First, Australia is an island, and second, the population are actively hostile to the invaders, not helping them.
** Also it ignores the ANZUS Security Treaty that would have given the US a flat out obligation to jump the invaders.
*** Actually, ANZUS would only put the US under the obligation to ''discuss'' whether or not to jump the invaders.
** Possibly just a HandWave since the whole premise of the story relies on the US/UK ''not'' rolling in as BigDamnHeroes, but in reality it's very unlikely they would just leave Australia to be invaded. Marsden may have (quite reasonably) decided that it's not realistic but not really important to the story why they don't.
* It is interesting to compare and contrast Ellie with other strong YA heroines from series where competent teenage girls are forced to take up arms and the mantle of leadership in order to survive a war situation, such as Katniss in TheHungerGames.
