** When it comes to the romantic relationships especially for the main leads, the series runs a gamut of romances that could be considered unconventional. These include InterspeciesRomance, MayflyDecemberRomance, EternalLove, and ReincarnationRomance. Some of the more unconventional relationships in the series of note involve those wherein one character is [[TheAgeless ageless]] and [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld chronologically very old yet looks practically child-like]], while their love interest is chronologically younger but looks physically older than them. While the tropes involved in these relationships justify them, their bare appearance can be attributed to the age of consent that Japan has.

Added DiffLines:

* ValuesDissonance: As an anime/manga series straight from Japan, a number of things can be attributed to as being products of Japanese cultural norm than anything else.
** Meliodas' perverted behavior towards Elizabeth and her general submissive attitude towards it is often portrayed in a comedic tone. Much of this can be attributed to just being part of the {{Ecchi}} comedy the series showcases.

** Meliodas sexually harassing Elizabeth. Many people outright refuse to watch the series because of this due to him rarely getting reprimanded for it, and when he does, it's a slap on the wrist at best.

** The relationship between Ban and Elaine is easily the most contentious relationship with the fandom short of Elizabeth and Meliodas. Even if Elaine didn't resemble a small child, more detail on that below under {{Squick}}, the bond between the two is from the start of the story known to be powerful and endless, to the extent that Elaine defies King and frees Ban from his FateWorseThanDeath of fossilization. Its detractors point out that this feels forced because the basis of their relationship though, is a bond that grew over only ''seven days'' compared to the ''seven hundred years'' Elaine had been guarding the Fountain of Youth, which started when Ban tried to steal the fountain, was keeping their tree alive, because....well, just because he wanted to live forever, and see if something good would eventually happen to him. Its fans are heated defenders, claiming that sweeping romance is indeed a thing and happens sometime and that Elaine's kindness is an inspiring example of what love ''should'' be founded on. It's got just enough devoted fans to compete with Ban x Jericho, seen below under FanPreferredCouple.

* PlotHole: A couple concerning the Ten Commandments.
** [[spoiler: Zaratras has returned back to life]] and states that the culprit is likely Merascylla's magic. Merascylla is dead by now, and when she was killed, Elaine "re-died" with her, so it makes no sense for [[spoiler: Zaratras]] to be here.
*** In this case, though, as there's been no confirmation as to whether or not [[spoiler: Elaine is dead]], it might be foreshadowing [[spoiler: Merascylla's magic lasting after her death and, as such, Elaine's surviving.]] Alternatively, it could mean that [[spoiler: Merascylla's still alive. Ban only pulled out five hearts after all.]]

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Meliodas. Some people love, but others are often annoyed with his perverted behavior and how he rarely gets [[KarmaHoudini called out for it]]. Some people even refuse to watch the series because of this.

Added DiffLines:

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Meliodas for some readers. Yes, it sucks that [[spoiler: his girlfriend died]]. However, that doesn't justify him sexually harassing a girl he's a few centuries the senior of because she's her reincarnation.

*** While the general thing with Meliodas and Elizabeth has been squick for some in one way or another, it reached new heights in Chapter 183. The chapter shows the exact moment that Zaratras and Baltra meet Meliodas immediately after Danafor was destroyed. [[spoiler: Coming out from the destruction was Meliodas holding baby Elizabeth who at this time has been revealed to be the reincarnation of Liz, Meliodas' former lover. Meliodas lashed out at Zaratras and Baltra, who tried to take her from him and get him medical attention, saying "DON'T YOU DARE LAY YOUR HANDS ON MY WOMAN!!!"]] With or without the prior context of Elizabeth, Meliodas' exact line in this moment referring [[spoiler: baby Elizabeth as his woman]] really came off as highly squicky.

** The rather underwhelming defeat of [[spoiler: Estarossa by Escanor]] in the latest chapters is seeing some split fans. Escanor still has his AwesomeEgo that everyone loves, but after watching [[spoiler: Estarossa easily brutalize Meliodas]], many felt that he went down entirely too easily for someone wit [[spoiler: Escanor's win streak]]. It doesn't help that [[spoiler: Escanor]] doesn't have any of the same level of backstory that the others do.
