* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The soundtrack is filled with unrestrained 80s-ness, then ends with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDJ3U1DrDLw this]].

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: Given that it set the tone for ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' and ''TrueBlood'', viewers forget how different this was when it first came out.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Tim Capello as the the oily saxophone player on the dock is surprisingly memorable among viewers of the film. [[https://www.facebook.com/greasysaxdude/ He even has a fan page!]]

* MemeticMutation: All the god damn vampires!

to:

** There's also Sam and Michael apparently mesmerized by the oily saxophone player on the docks.

All the god damn vampires!vampires!
** The oily saxophone player, portrayed by Tim Capello, has become part of the basis for general sexy saxophone man jokes.

** A little TruthInTelevision here, as Schumacher is gay, and vampires were (and still are) commonly used to represent the AIDS crisis that was especially prominent among the gay community in the 80's. There's actually a few articles floating around on homoerotic subtext in the movie - you can read one [[{{www.horror-movies.ca/2014/09/new-perspective-lost-boys-homosexual-film/}} here]].

* FunnyBackgroundMoment: Michael randomly lifting weights, the vamps flirting with the girl at the video shop, Marco holding the chopsticks between his teeth as he hands out the Chinese food, and Grandpa making a spooked face at Max when he arrives for dinner.

** There's a lot of {{subtext}} in the movie overall. For example, Michael has to drink David's blood (a ''bodily fluid'') to lose half his humanity, and it can be argued that Star and Laddie create the guise of a nuclear family so Michael is more easily lured in.

** In ''The Thrist'', [[spoiler:DJ X is set-up as the [[BigBad Alpha Vampire]], it's revealed towards the end that it's really Peter Lieber, and most of the film was an EvilPlan so he could turn Edgar into his personal hitman]].
* {{Squick}}: The maggots and worms. Doubly so when WordOfGod instructs budding filmmakers that maggots tend to just lie there. How to get the to wriggle? Squeeze lemon juice on them.

* HoYay: David and Michael. Just...David and Michael. David pretty much seduces him in a strange blood drinking sequence, half hypnotises him with continuous usage of his name, ignores the pretty love interest in favor of Michael, and spends the whole movie trying desperately to get Michael to see things his way. Never mind David's insistence [[spoiler: leads to him dropping his guard, therefore leading to his death... he never makes a move to kill Michael, even when his victim blindly refuses to become a full vampire. David actually looks genuinely hurt by this rejection.]] The amount of eyesex and shimmering sexual tension in this film concerning these two is just amazing. This could translate to FoeYay as well.

* ShockingSwerve: In the original film, [[spoiler:the reveal that David's ''not'' the head vampire; it's really Max, the mild mannered local business owner & current boyfriend to Sam & Michael's mother. However, the groundwork is there, it's just done so subtly that you likely won't notice them on the first viewing.]]
