* AudienceColoringAdaptation: Many of the elements associated with The Conversion Bureau and its spin-offs such as the misanthropy and the humans having to have their personalities changed are due to Chatoyance's works rather than the original story, which had some of the former but not as blatantly and only the vaguest hint of the latter... for better or worse.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Specifically, a high level HLF operative named Ralph in The 800 Year Promise. He introduces himself cheerfully, completely outwits the heroes, trumps them in a moral debate, Badass isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and calls Celestia out on her more questionable acts. Is there any wonder so many people wanted him to win?

* RonTheDeathEater: Poor, poor Princess Celestia. Intentionally or not, her AllLovingHero BigGood characterization keeps getting through the mud. Both bad straight and anti- Conversion Bureau stories portray her as a genocidal KnightTemplar AbsoluteXenophobe dictator, and it's very rare that a story actually takes time to establish why she would start making like the Borg, be it brainwashing, getting maddened into misanthropy], or feeling that doing so was a necessary evil.

* RonTheDeathEater: If Celestia being portrayed by popular culture as a dictator was Out-of-Character enough, then you haven't seen The Conversion Bureau series. In just about every TCB or Anti-TCB story, her original character as a BigGood is utterly and completely annihilated removing any semblance she has with the MLP show at all (though not always intentionally). Celestia in this genre tends to be AdolfHitler turned UpToEleven, made into a pony and Jumps off the Slippery Slope, advocating the complete annihilation of mankind because they are inferior and barbaric compared to the Equine Master Race. She has become a NecessaryWeasel crossing as many war crimes and Moral Event Horizons as can be fathomed to drum up the message that Celestia is a monster and that HumansAreSpecial. Some authors HandWave this as Celestia has simply been a very convincing actor when she needs to mislead people. It's rare to find a fic that takes the time to give a good reason for why Celestia would do this if it wasn't the last resort, be it brainwashing or being broken by years of watching human atrocities.

* DeathOfTheAuthor: The author of the original The Conversion Bureau, Blaze, wrote his story as pretty basic wish-fulfillment/theory about why Equestria doesn't have humans, with some accidental HumansAreBastards implications. The genre inspired by the story takes it as a tract about how HumansAreBastards and therefore need to be assimilated by the ponies, Borg style.

* CounterpointComparison: Rampant xenophobia to the point where xenocide is seen as a good thing, and worshipping a GodEmperor (well, Empress) who leads them in their quest to destroy things not of them? Chatoyance's ponies bear more than a passing resemblance to the Imperium of Man (who themselves are an amalgamation of the worst parts of several historical regimes, such as the Crusaders, the Soviets, and the Nazis).

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Portraying Celestia as a sociopathic, xenocidal MadGod and the "hero" of the story tends to sit poorly with fans of the show. And of course, portraying the human xenocide as a good thing, bombarding the reader with anvilicious heavy-handed messages and liberal doses of ThisLoserIsYou tend to repel readers.
