* MagnificentBastard: Mephiles. He repeatedly screws over the protagonists by manipulating them against each other, knows his limits (as seen when he repeatedly flees from Shadow and Omega), and has backup plans for when his original plan to have Silver kill Sonic fails. All while being an entertaining LargeHam with arguably the only voice actor who seems to be putting effort into his performance.

** In-universe, Silver. After having found out that Iblis can, for whatever reason, [[SealedEvilInACan only be sealed into some sort of royal vessel]] (ie: Elise), he then sees [[spoiler: Elise die.]] He promptly ''lets Sonic go and try to save Elise again on his own'' instead of going with him despite the fact that they both had just failed horribly, and afterwards? He goes back to his destroyed future to defeat Iblis and then [[IdiotBall tries to seal it inside of himself.]] [[PlotHole Whether it's separate timelines or the bad future still existing due to Sonic having failed goes unexplained,]] but all this serves to do is [[spoiler: [[HeroicSacrifice force Blaze to seal Iblis inside of herself]] [[ButNowIMustGo and disappear from the plot,]] even removing her from being playable in [[ThatOneLevel the last story.]]]] [[SarcasmMode Thanks, Silver.]]

** Taking her backstory into account, Princess Elise. The past reveals that the Duke of Soleanna sealed Iblis inside of her when she was just a little girl and told her that she shouldn't cry or else the world will be destroyed. A desperate act (that would be considered [[WhatAnIdiot pure idiocy]] if the stakes had been any less dire, considering that she was only a little girl) but it's never shown how much this act of bottling up her sadness and other emotions affected her, instead focusing on her being a LivingMacGuffin and having an apparent crush on Sonic.
** Mephiles as well. While he stands as probably the only consistently well-acted and well-written character in the whole game (other than perhaps [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap Shadow]], though YMMV on his acting), his motives for his goal leave too much to the imagination aside from an off-hand comment from Shadow, who believes that he craves destruction. Also, FridgeBrilliance suggests that he does have a reason for screwing around with the protagonists [[ComplexityAddiction the way he does]], but again, it's left completely unexplained. He's kept out of being a GenericDoomsdayVillain due to him being an active manipulator, but his unclear reasons just keep him out of being a MagnificentBastard.

** Do the guards just not ''care'' about Elise's well-being? Their KnightsAndKnaves puzzle seems to say so.

** MaddieBlaustein was frequently criticised for her stiff and nasally take on E-123 Omega, which was a far cry from the intimidating deep voice John St Jon gave him.
