A character not being portrayed the way you wanted them to be portrayed is not a waste of a character.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Sticks could have played a big part in this episode if she was [[OnlySaneMan the only person]] to believe Sonic wasn't meant to offend the villagers with his statement, but instead, she's relegated to only having a couple of lines of dialogue and joins Tails, Amy and Knuckles in gasping whenever Sonic made a supposedly offensive statement.

The villagers aren’t really portrayed as being right

* InformedWrongness: Sonic is constantly seen in the wrong for refusing to let a civilian help, calling him a "guy", then bringing him into battle, where said "guy" does nothing but sit and watch (and also gets injured, which is why Sonic didn't want to bring him along in the first place), and calling people "people".

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Sonic's proven to be right when he rants that he gets little to no appreciation for saving the village every week and that everyone gasps at him when he calls a guy "a guy" or people "people", [[IResembleThatRemark prompting his friends to gasp immediately after his sentence.]]

The issue I have with this is that we're seeing the story mostly from Sonic's perspective, so he has the Sympathetic POV right from the start and the audience is supposed to side with him. Furthur evidence by Sonic's outburst when he quits his hero duties. So, the villagers are clearly shown as being the ones in the wrong.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: As tactless as Sonic was in his comment about Mike, he did not deserve to be a pariah among the village. We're expected to side with the villagers because of Sonic's actions, but clearly, no one likes to see their favorite blue hero treated with such contempt. After all the crap he dealt with, Sonic had every right to yell at the villagers, his friends included for not being actual friends, and almost quitting being a hero.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Mike, the titular "guy" in this episode, is constantly made out to be the victim due Sonic calling him "just a guy", being brought to a battle and getting hurt because of it. Keep in mind, Mike wouldn't've gotten hurt he hadn't pestered Sonic to let him help in the battles. Not to mention, Mike is an obnoxious character who shouldn't even be asking Sonic to come and help, or simply watch the battles, so can't sympathize with him, because of how stupid he and the villagers are.
** Speaking of the villagers, the viewers are expected to agree with them and think Sonic is a bad person for off handed comments towards Mike and them. The truth of the matter is, they're a bunch of [[UngratefulBastard ungrateful bastards]], and hypocrites to Sonic, who are quick to tell baseless lies to slander Sonic, and to even blame Sonic for Mike getting hurt when it was clearly their fault to begin with. Even if they did apologize for their behavior, nothing stops them turning on him in the future, will it?

* TheWoobie: Sonic. His rant sums it up very well: he is hardly ever shown any appreciation for saving the village every week, and it seems that the only time that anyone notices what he does is when he does something wrong. Oh, and not to mention how quick the villagers and even his own friends are to turn on him (with absolutely no one coming to his defense)...
