* AnnoyingVideoGameHelper: The various superweapon buildings your allies can purchase are one of your worst enemies. Every time you conquer an enemy planet, a nuke your allies shot at it 20 minutes ago will ''finally'' arrive.
** What's worse than having a planet you conquered blasted by a superweapon that was late to the party? Having your allies colonize it before you can, even if you did most of the fighting. However, if they just happened to fire a Novalith or Kostura beforehand, it can instantly turn into a CrowningMomentOfFunny.

** "Pilot's Bane", which requires you to destroy 2500 strikecraft in a single game. In an average game, you'd be lucky to destroy a few hundred.

* SpiritualLicensee: This is pretty much the closest thing to a ''LegendOfTheGalacticHeroes'' game as Western gamers are going to get for the foreseeable future.

* {{Unfortunate Implications}}: The Advent's racial telepathic bond called "the Unity" MIGHT be a form of mass brainwashing. But since the lore is a bit fuzzy here this might just be a proto {{hivemind}}.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPvtC8xi-C8 main theme]], which combines elements of each race's theme music. Possibly to symbolise that the three sides are NotSoDifferent. Plenty of other tracks also qualify as CrowningMomentOfAwesome; with the right sound settings, you can easily transition from bliss to a Star Wars like orchestra in a few seconds just by zooming into a battle.
** Check the game files for Upbeat 3.ogg. It's the best of the battle music in the game, and it's quite awesome.
** Pretty much the entire score counts as CrowningMusicOfAwesome, and that's what makes the game so addictive, at least to this troper; the music draws the player in and doesn't let go.

to:

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: Pretty much Paul Schuegraf's entire score counts - and, for some players, can be part what makes the game so addictive; it draws the player in and doesn't let go. Some specific examples:
** From the original - plenty of tracks qualify; with the right sound settings, you can easily transition from bliss to a Star Wars like orchestra in a few seconds just by zooming into a battle.
***
The [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPvtC8xi-C8 main theme]], which combines elements of each race's theme music.main LeitMotif. Possibly to symbolise that the three sides are NotSoDifferent. Plenty
*** Speaking
of other each race's main theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By0alXGznPM The Emerging Empire]] for the TEC, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPcULxdb-zU The Expanding Empire]] for the Advent and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4hzkx5Gjpc The Fallen Empire]] for the Vasari; each one embodies its faction with a sense of majesty and purpose and is often the first track the player hears upon starting a new game.
*** Sinister and alien-sounding, the Vasari
tracks also qualify feature syncopated drums, plucked strings and creepy musical saw effects. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMDn17uwjPU The Arrival]] is a good example, while [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVkFukSw57c Desperate]] showcases both their power and, as CrowningMomentOfAwesome; with the right sound settings, you can easily transition from bliss title suggests, their desperation.
*** The Advent on the other hand have a lot of strings and EtherealChoir, driven along by insistent shakers (or military drums for some tracks). [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxZRfQuk9ZY For Vengeance]] is upbeat and full of purpose, while [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX9SwWrL9i0 A World In Isolation]] is softer and more contemplative.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1oiPa9iUzI New Dawn]], which tends
to a Star Wars like orchestra in a few seconds just by zooming into play when you're viewing your capital planet, or winning a battle.
** Check *** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGF3SKbYH80 Two Fronts]], a story-telling battle track that begins with creepy Vasari strings, progresses to tense action, then soars into EtherealChoir as the game files Advent join the fight.
** From ''Rebellion'' - the latest expansion contained new tracks
for Upbeat 3.ogg. It's each faction, and the best quality of the battle instrumentation has improved noticeably, making an excellent soundtrack even more awesome. Some highlights include:
*** The TEC Loyalists have [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnOU55mw7yA Strength In Separation]], a majestic track with a subtle variation of the original TEC theme.
*** The TEC Rebel track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eova_0urxMM Keep The Lanes Open]] on the other hand is ominous and military, perfectly illustrating the differences between the factions.
*** The Advent Loyalists show how dark and sinister their quest has become with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5gwOxCzyJk Fate of the Apostate]], while [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5vUHvoZa64 In The Name of the Unity]] is stirring and uplifting, especially as it reaches its crescendo.
*** The Advent Rebels'
music in is generally quiet and contemplative, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1FpfXXEkoA Purity of Memory]] being a good example.
*** The Vasari Loyalists are [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=QKp8vwLCKas#t=3 Unstoppable]].
*** The Vasari Rebels rework
the game, trademark Vasari plucked strings into upbeat tracks such as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7-ECb7lJ-g History In The Making]].
*** Some of the non race-specific tracks are also awesome, such as the defiant [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT1IrkslL08 Defend the Colony]],
and it's quite awesome.
the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-C39cQ_q2g Main Theme]] (which once again includes snippets of the trademark instruments and riffs of each race) goes without saying.
* FanNickname: Space Whale / Space Egg: Jarrasul Evacuator.
** Space Tank / Flying Tank: Kodiak Heavy Cruiser.
** Cannon Fodder / RedshirtArmy:
Pretty much all frigates.
** Battle Ball: The name for
the entire score counts tight ship formation most Advent players favor.
** The Brick: Kol Battleship.
** Orkulus Rex: Vasari (Rebel) starbase with phase engines. Currently regarded
as CrowningMusicOfAwesome, and that's what makes the game so addictive, at least to this troper; the music draws the player in and doesn't let go.something of a GameBreaker.

* ScrappyMechanic: The Open Rebellion event for ''Stellar Phenomena.'' If allegiance drops to less than 30% on planets, a sizable fleet of rebels, complete with their own Capital Ships, will attack the planet, destroy everything they can, and automatically destroy the colony. Since planets more than 5 phase lanes away have a maximum of 35% loyalty, and Deliverance Engine signals guarantee at least a 10% drop, playing against an Advent player is an exercise in futility as the colonies are overthrown faster than you can restore them. Not even [=TEC=] Rebels, who are "assaulted" by fleets of non-combative forces, are still prone to this.

** Culture can be
this. You may be doing well militarily only to have your planets slip from your control. Especially bad if you're doing a military research only run for the Achievements or don't have enough slots to spare for Broadcast Centres.

* ExcusePlot: That plot summary on the main page? It...isn't a summary. The game lore is used only to justify each faction's technology/look. The developers promised a full campaign in an expansion pack, but... it sort of [[{{Vaporware}} didn't happen]].
This list shows the last 10 events of 17. Show all.
