* WhatCouldHaveBeen: There were plans for an animated series adaptation of the Secret Wars, but it was never made. The best it got was a three-episode story arc in the [=90s=] ''WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries'', but even then it was something very different.

* VillainSue: The Beyonder. Completely unlimited power, to the point of being able to slap ''Galactus'' away like a fly.

** It was implied that the Beyonder had spent at least ''some'' time spying on the normal universe - [[spoiler: since the source of the hole between universes was the accident that created the Molecule Man, 20 years real-time (and at least a few years comic-time) passed between the formation of the hole and when he finally gathered up the heroes]] - and chose the heroes and villains because most of them seemed far more passionate than the average person. The upshot was essentially that they had different TYPES of passions (with the heroes being more selfless), and that by getting them to fight, he could learn just how far people were willing to go to satisfy their desires.
** What, you ''wouldn't'' desire that? I think Beyonder was just an AudienceSurrogate.
*** Yes, pretty much. Basically, at that point, Beyonder gathering up the heroes and villains in the Battleworld wouldn't be much different than a kid playing with action figures.

** Piledriver refers to Volcana as a cow (specifically, he calls her Guernsey) so presumably she was supposed to look fat. A much later She-Hulk series that explored the origins of Rita Skeeter- er, sorry, Mary [=MacPherran=] (aka Titania) also portrayed Volcana as being more obviously overweight before her transformation.

** Actually it was his own subconscious desires (see BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor in the main page).
** Really, the real cause of this was the writer, Jim Shooter, who had been looking for an excuse to break-up Kitty and Colossus for some time. [[note]]Shooter was suitably squicked for the longest time with the depicted, even if as-of-yet chaste, relationship between two characters who were 20 (Colossus) and 14 (Kitty) at the time.[[/note]]

* RecursiveAdaptation: It was a comic based on the toys. Now, there are the toys of the comic of the toys. Not sure if the AnimatedAdaptation of the comic of the toys count, though.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: In a way, ''Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars'' was this for the ''entire storyline'', explaining away things that didn't make sense by putting Deadpool into it. The one-night stand with Magneto and Wasp? That was Deadpool and Wasp. Those shields from the toyline? They were in the main story, Deadpool found one in the X-Men's base and it was instrumental in getting the heroes out of the mountain. The symbiote later going bug-nuts insane? Deadpool got it first and put it back, pointing Spider-Man towards it, though he worried that his insanity might have infected it. Why does no one remember? [[spoiler:The Wasp wished so hard to forget Deadpool, ''everyone did!'']]

* VillainSue: The Beyonder. Completely unlimited power, to the point of being able to slap ''Galactus'' away like a fly, and he basically operates in a way that a Comic Book reader would. Knowing secrets such as: Not believing in Mephisto makes him go away, even though by all logic he couldn't possibly know that. Omnipotence isn't omniscience.
