* FanonDiscontinuity: Inverted. The first movie was pretty much not mentioned at all in the second film, which made hardcore fans extremely happy.

** Realistically, this might be the best way to take the film by nonfans, or people older than kid age. It's been pointed out in places, most recently by the Nostalgia Critic, that the film actually has a decent amount of comedic potential, it's just that the actors didn't have the comedic potential to make it all work that well, or maybe got poor direction, despite the fact that James Gunn wrote the film.

* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: For those who hated the first movie for not following the cartoon close enough, this sequel rectifies this.
** Critics didn't seem to think the same, however, as this movie received even worse critical reception than its predecessor.

Matthew Lillard seems to be the only one trying to convince the viewers that he's Shaggy.Shaggy.
** The costume/prop department also did a fantastic job recreating the costumes of the monsters from several incarnations of the show, even if the monsters mainly show up as background elements.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The Cotton Candy Glob scene.

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** The Pterodactyl Ghost got a lot of popularity for being a genuinely cool villain.
** The 10,000 Volt Ghost had less than 60 seconds of screen time, but a lot of viewers found him to be rather impressive.

* HilariousInHindsight:
** The cast for the Scooby Gang would go on to mock their roles in ''WesternAnimation/RobotChicken'' along with Seth Green.

* MemeticBadass: Hilariously, Scooby-Doo turns into one thanks to his bizarre action scene.
* NightmareFuel: [[spoiler: The Tar Monster nearly ''drowning'' the gang in his tar.]]
* OneSceneWonder: The Cotton Candy Glob. He's not a villain from any Scooby-Doo cartoon in the past, but nobody could ignore his single scene.
* SoBadItsGood: While the film isn't exactly Oscar bait, a lot of people enjoyed some of the genuinely good attempts at praising the Scooby-Doo lore and capturing some qualities from the classic cartoon.
* {{Squick}}:
** Scooby-Doo flirting with a human woman while disguised as a normal man.
** Shaggy transforming into a woman.
** [[spoiler: Heather Jasper-Howe's UnsettlingGenderReveal.]]
