* MagnumOpus: ''WesternAnimation/TheThiefAndTheCobbler'' was meant to be this for him in the traditional sense (i.e., "the piece you create once you've mastered your craft"). Even in it's incomplete form, most agree that what was accomplished still counts. The animation for ''Film/WhoFramedRogerRabbit'', is usually cited as his best ''completed'' work.

* HypeBacklash: Inevitably. Specifically, a number of industry people feel as though he puts far too much emphasis on the animation looking pretty than telling a story (even fans have admitted that [[JustHereForGodzilla they only watch his stuff for the animation]]) and have even criticized his seemingly harsh work ethics, saying that his passion comes as much from [[SuperOCD a lack of self-confidence]] as it does a genuine love of the art. In his defense, as much as he's been known to push his animators past the point of their credibility and [[PrimaDonnaDirector take a lot of the credit for himself]], he has ''always'' name-dropped his best staff members and repeatedly invited them back to work for him.

* MagnumOpus: ''TheThiefAndTheCobbler'' was meant to be this for him and even though it was never completed, most agree that he came pretty close.
* UncannyValley: He is insistent on shooting all of his animation entirely on ones (i.e., on new drawing every frame) in all of his project. While the results are usually really impressive, they can also be a little nauseating after a while.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Ranges from impossibly fluid hand-drawn character animation in his films to doing every frame as a miniature watercolor or oil pant masterpiece in his commercial work.

* CreatorWorship: Do not, under any circumstances, [[FandomBerserkButton imply to his fans]] that the failure of ''WesternAnimation/TheThiefAndTheCobbler'' was partially the fault of [[ItsAllAboutMe his ego]] or [[SuperOCD insane perfectionism]] and not [[ExecutiveMeddling greedy movie execs]] [[RonTheDeathEater who hate artists]].
* HypeBacklash: While there's no denying the quality of his work, his horrible work ethics have labeled him an insecure [[SuperOCD perfectionist]] with [[PrimaDonnaDirector completely unrealistic expectations]].
* InsufferableGenius

* PrimaDonnaDirector: He has ''never'' kept a project under budget or met a set deadline, not even his commercial work, which typically demands quick turnaround time, all of which owing to his [[ThePerfectionist insane perfectionism]]. In some cases, he was fired from projects by his superiors just so the damn thing could be released!
** He's also gotten plenty of flack for his perceived cocky attitude. While he always gave credit where it was due, he only ever referred to ''TheThiefAndTheCobbler'' as [[ItsAllAboutMe "his masterpiece,"]] failing to realize that it requires far too many people to create an animated feature for all of the credit to go to one person. That'll happen when you're making a decent living as an artist from 16 on.
* ProtectionFromEditors: He's always felt entitled to this, and is almost always wrong.
* SuperOCD: He always insists that everything in his films be absolutely flawless, often to his detriment.
