* HilariousInHindsight: Early in the novel, Michael can't get Angel to marry him and leave the brothel and can't get her out of his head either: "He worked until past dark every day and then sat before the fire, tormented with thoughts of her. He saw her face in the flames, beckoning to him. To hell itself, no doubt." Disney's ''WesternAnimation/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame'', released a couple of years later than this novel, has Frollo's VillainLoveSong about how he is a [[KnightTemplar virtuous, righteous man]] tormented by his obsession with a woman; he sees her face in the flames and says his burning desire is turning him to sin.

Karma Houdini is not YMMV. Transferring to the character sheet.

Nah—her mother prays the rosary but otherwise doesn't fit that description (and is portrayed sympathetically by the narrative) and her grandmother is sympathetic for Mae's plight. it's only her grandfather who's stern and unforgiving, and that's not indicated as because he's Catholic.

* AcceptableTargets: Blink and you'll miss it, but the prologue portrays Angel's family of origin using standard anti-Catholic tropes: cold, unforgiving, rigid, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking mechanically praying the Rosary.]] This is understandable given the target audience, though.

Not approved by the cleanup thread.

* CompleteMonster: Duke. The man is a pedophile and pimp. He keeps children as his personal sex slaves until they grow too old for him, moving onto the next one, and keeping the now grown girls as prostitutes.
