* AmericansHateTingle: Though arguably not through any fault of its own, the strip was very poorly received when it was printed in the British ''Daily Mirror'' newspaper between 2006 and 2010. It was in the thankless position of having to replace ''ComicStrip/ThePerishers'', which was arguably '''the''' most popular UK comic strip of all time (and had been discontinued due to AuthorExistenceFailure); the mere fact that such a British institution was replaced by a strip which relied heavily on American pop culture references meant ''Pooch Cafe'' was pretty much doomed from the start in the UK.

It was in the thankless position of having to replace ''ComicStrip/ThePerishers'', which was arguably one of, if not '''the''' most popular beloved UK comic strip of all time (and had been discontinued due to AuthorExistenceFailure); the mere fact that such a British institution was replaced by a strip which relied heavily on American pop culture references meant ''Pooch Cafe'' was pretty much doomed from the start in the UK.UK. It didn't help that the ''Daily Mirror'' began printing the strip right from the start, meaning that most ''Perishers'' fans didn't stick around long enough to see it get better.
* GrowingTheBeard: For its first six months or so the strip came across as something of a sub-par ''ComicStrip/{{Garfield}}'' clone that had a habit of rehashing the same jokes with very minor variations for days on end. It started to pick up after that, finding its own brand of humor and giving the characters more distinct personalities.
