* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Admit it, Edie's relationship with the egg man is pretty adorable. [[spoiler: They even get married! Aww...]]

* TearJerker: Yes, of all films! Admittedly, [[spoiler: Divine's reaction to seeing her trailer, her home, burning, was quite the [[MoodWhiplash whiplash]]. She dropped to her knees, crying uncontrollably. Even in a WorldOfHam movie like this, the way she acted was still pretty damn convincing. Worse, after they vowed that the criminals will not make it out alive and leave, the scene ends with the shot of the trailer collapsing, literally burning down to the ground.]]

Renamed one trope.

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: When it was first released, the film's extensive use of [[GrossOutShow grossout humor]] and extreme BlackComedy was absolutely shocking to many people. While it's still more explicit than most examples, the film probably isn't as shocking now since gross-out humor is to be expected with most comedies these days.

* SignatureScene: The final scene, in which Divine eats fresh dog poop, is one of the (in)famous scenes in the history of shock-comedy films.

YMMV example can not be played with.

* ValuesDissonance: ZigZagged. The Marbles are guilty of much evil, but many modern viewers probably aren't bothered that they adopt out babies to lesbian couples. Seeing that the adoptive lesbians parents seem to be the most decent and grounded characters in the film, Waters may have been making a point about how ridiculous it would be to consider them inappropriate parents. Keep in mind, John Waters himself is a proud openly gay man and a good chunk of the crew were Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans people. Despite this, the babies were conceived via abduction and rape, something that is arguably even worse nowadays. Not to mention, the payments from the lesbian couples is used by the Marbles to finance heroin dealers who target inner-city elementary schools.
