* MemeticLoser: Leaving aside the drama surrounding his initial "replacing" of Richard Rider, Sam Alexander has unforunately garnered this reputation overtime due to his getting overshadowed by his contemporaries; Miles Morales and Kamala Khan. While Marvel initially tried to promote the three characters as a PowerTrio during the ComicBook/AllNewAllDifferentMarvel relaunch, over time it became apparent that both Miles and Kamala were becoming breakout characters into multimedia. Not helping matters that during the same timeframe, Sam's own book got cancelled and his creator Creator/JephLoeb's ousting from the company seemed to coincide with Sam getting used less and less in the cartoons and games. It's now not uncommon to see Sam's detractors to use all of this to further mock him.

** The 1988-2002 theme, composed by Mason Daring and Martin Brody, particularly the end credits version, has a really epic feel to it.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Volume 7 focusing on both Sam and Richard has been well received, and a nice compromise for their respective fanbases (not counting Sam's infamous Hate Dumb that consider themselves die-hard Richard fans, who notoriously never let their hate go and are sometimes pinned, to varying degrees, for Volume 7's premature cancellation). In fact, quite a few people are wondering why Marvel didn't just do this in the first place, aside from potential logistical or story structural reasonsSam's creation and Rich's departure happen far enough away and by different writers that they are unrelated to one another, misblames aside; Jeff Loeb is thought to have said part of Sam's creation and original use is due to not wanting to sully Rich's sacrifice; or perhaps the simple fact that the stories that wanted to be told where those that dealt with Sam and his status as thought-of LastOfHisKind, as a KidHero, and as a LegacyCharacter in general, like with Miles and Kamala, for example, which wouldn't really work with Rich. and Sam needing to beef up his character due to being new at the time.
** The last few issues of Volume 7 attempt to clean up the mess from when Brian Bendis attempted to explain what happened to Richard and Star Lord after the Thanos Imperative. While some are pissed that they referenced that plot at all, many are happy that it managed to clean up a few inconsistencies and outright ignore some of the others.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Though it's still a BrokenBase, Sam's appearance in New Warriors and Gerry Duggan's writings were somewhat an improvement over Jeph Loeb's writings, particularly amongst some of Sam's dissenters, though even the first issues of Sam's comic were often considered an improvement from Sam's pre-CharacterDevelopment Jerkass portrayal in early WesternAnimation/UltimateSpiderMan.
